Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022-2024 IONIQ 5, 2023-2025 IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 "Electrified," and Genesis G80 "Electrified" vehicles. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power.

Remedio: Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 272 (Hyundai) and 025G (Genesis). This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 24V-204. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-204 will need to have the new remedy completed.

Continued to drive the few miles to our home. Once home checked service battery with battery monitor. Showed 12.1V and did not show battery being charged with vehicle ON (Ready) or OFF. Had vehicle towed to Hyundai service facility where the ICCU failure was confirmed.

The vehicle is a Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle. There have been known issues with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) failing suddenly rendering the car inoperative; I just took it to the dealer and they confirmed a fault with the ICCU. I am up to date with multiple prior ICCU recalls and updates. Leading up to this, a few months ago my 12V battery died unexpectedly at ~22000 miles and I had it replaced. The ICCU charges the 12v battery so I wondered if there was an ICCU issue but the car otherwise was operating fine. Overnight while charging with a level 1 charger at home recently, the car stopped charging overnight unexpectedly. A couple days later I plugged in to charge at home again and got a message "charging unsuccessful", and on the dash I received a message that said "check electrical vehicle system" which went away when I unplugged the car. I tried a different level 1 charger from my wife's car and received the same "charging unsuccessful" message. Interestingly that charger no longer seems to work on her car, so it's possible that my car damaged the charging unit. I then went to try a level 2 charger maintained by the city of Seattle which was operative and had power when I plugged in. On plugging in, I received the same "charging unsuccessful" message and then the light on the level 2 charger went off and the level 2 charing unit lost power. Again, it appears that the fault on my car may have damaged an external charging unit. Thankfully I was still able to drive the car to the dealer where the ICCU failure was confirmed and am in the process of replacing it (they don't have the parts in house and told me the current wait is less than a week though previously had been sometimes months). A service rep told me many customers had the failure happen suddenly with a loud "pop" while the car was in motion causing them to limp to the side of the road or leaving them stranded.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 displayed a "Check Vehicle Electrical System" warning on the dashboard. The Integrated Charging Control Unit(ICCU) failed, and it rendered the car inoperable. I could not drive it and was left stranded, waiting for a tow truck in below-freezing temperatures as the car completely died. Hyundai has previously recalled the vehicle for this, and my car had been serviced in the recall campaign, so the issue is clear: the recall did not fix this issue. The car has been sitting at the service center for two weeks, waiting in the repair queue behind other Ioniq 5 cars with the same ICCU failure.

I started the car and put down all 4 windows simultaneously. I heard a pop and a dash warning "Check electrical system". I knew this is symptomatic of an ICCU failure and the car will not be driveable for very far. This happened despite having recall work performed for this specific issue in September. That recall work was just a software update, but it is a hardware problem. Hyundai needs to fix the hardware problem. If this had happened when I was at a remote trailhead without cell service I likely would have been stranded. Fortunately I was able to drive 1-2 miles home and get the car towed. I was without a car for 4 days until Hyundai could get me a loaner vehicle. Unknown how long repair will take. Unknown what reliability will be after repair, if they just replace the ICCU with another that has the same potential fault.

It has now been over 10 days, and I have not received any updates regarding the repair timeline, or next steps. This situation is extremely frustrating, as I depend on this vehicle daily. I would greatly appreciate immediate communication regarding the status of my vehicle, including: •Expected repair timeline •What is Hyundai doing to alleviate this massive problem with ICCU? I was driving home from lunch with my wife. A "Check electrical system" alert came up, followed shortly by an urgent beeping with a "Stop vehicle and check power supply." We were able to pull into a parking lot. We called our insurance company for a tow, which showed up two hours later. They took it to the nearest Hyundai dealership. It took three days to diagnose the issue as an ICCU failure, which appears all too common with Ioniq 5s. There's a national backlog on the replacement part, so my car will likely be in the shop for a month to six weeks. A six-week old AGM battery also died. Hyundai wants me to pay to replace it.

In October, 2025, the car gave the warning notice on the screen 'check electrical system' (or to that effect... i was at home, and put the car in drive, to get to a Doctors appointment. I drove about a mile and another notice came on to the screen to stop the car immediately. I did, and called Bluelink to have it towed (missed my Dr's appointment). The Capital Hydaid dealer in Greensboro, NC, took a day to get back to me, telling me that 'we only have one mechanic that works on the EV and he has 2 cars in front of yours and could not give me a ETA when they might know what was wrong. 5 days later they said it looks like it was something to do with the electrical and they doing diagnostics...a few days I went to dealer (to get some things out of the car) and they told me they were waiting on results. 3 days later I had to get something from the car which was in the same parking place - when I went to them saying it hasn't been moved, they said they were still waiting on Hyundai to proceed. It took almost 10 days and I had to rent a car until they were able to give me a loaner (ending paying for part of the rental because I wasn't told how much my daily rate would be reimbursed. Forward to [XXX]. Same issue, the car on both instances went into safe mode and limped to a safe destination. Fortunately the ICCU went fully bad at home so safety was not a concern as it could have been. Also I have reported that the lack of a preconditioning button on the touchscreen creates distracted driving. One time I had to wade through navigation menus to disable since I would not make it to a charging station in time (the distance for charge was over 100 miles off). Another time it had to be tricked into turning on because it did not recognize any of the chargers on the NJ Turnpike.

This vehicle underwent an ICCU failure. I heard a pop from the back seat and my vehicle went into a "turtle mode" and had an electrical system warning. Resulted in a tow back from the grand canyon all the way to Phoenix, AZ. This left my girlfriend and I stranded, and caused unnecessary anxiety and discomfort. If this occurred on a highway, the result could have been dangerous. Hyundai has said that only 1-2% of Ioniq vehicles experience an ICCU failure. But from all the evidence and first hand accounts I have heard online this is grossly under reported. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for this failure.

On the morning of January 23, 2026, the ICCU Assembly and fuse failed when driving on a freeway in moderately heavy traffic. I was driving about 55 mph when I heard a pop from somewhere behind me. A warning message came on the display to check the electrical system along with a battery symbol. The car lost power. Losing power like that on a freeway was not at all safe. It could only go about 25 miles per hour. I had to drive on the shoulder of the freeway with my hazard lights flashing until I reached an exit ramp to get off the freeway. I parked on a side street in a residential area where I felt safe, turned off the car, and waited. I turned it back on. The message was still there so I called for a tow. The 12-volt battery was completely dead by the time it got to the dealers and had to be jumped to be able to park it. The original ICCU had already been replaced in November of 2024, so this was a failure of a replaced part. The car was at the dealer for 19 days before it was repaired due to the wait for the parts to be shipped. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The ICCU and fuse failed but I don't have the part since it was replaced by the dealer. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Losing power on a freeway when cars are traveling at high speed is not at all safe. I could have been rear-ended. Luckily I was able to get to the freeway shoulder without incident and travel on the shoulder to get to a safe place. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. They diagnosed it and replaced the failed part. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Unknown. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. The warning message popped up at the same time as the loss of power.

The service center tells me there are 20 Ioniq5s ahead of me still waiting on ICCU replacement parts. NHTSA and other articles have estimated 2-10% with ICCU failures but the problem appears to be much higher than this! I am very disappointed and hope NHTSA.gov will help us to push Hyundai to find a root cause instead of sweeping it under the table claiming less than "1%" are affected.

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shut down unexpectedly, leaving the contact stranded for several hours. A RED warning light was illuminated, indicating an electrical failure, followed by the battery warning light being illuminated, leading to the loss of power. Then a "12V battery voltage low" message along with the "turtle mode" icon which limits the car to under 20 mph. I pulled over to a side street as I did not want the car to die on a main road and impede traffic or get hit. I called roadside assistance and the car was towed to the dealership.(1/16/2026). On Tuesday (1/19/2026) I was informed that the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) had failed. The dealership ordered the part(s) to be replaced and stated 5-7 days turnaround. Called dealership every 10 days or so, but was told there was no ETA for the parts delivery. On Thursday 3/6/2026 (48 days) received a text that the car was ready to be picked up. The ICCU and associated fuse was replaced.

I purchased the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited edition car on 12/20/2025. On 01/03/2026, a warning light came on and said I needed to check my electrical system. I drove 3 miles home and made an appointment with the Hyundai dealership on 01/05/26. On the morning of 01/05/26, as I was attempting to drive the car to the dealership, a turtle symbol appeared on the dashboard and said power limited. Three blocks later, the warning sign popped up that said pull over immediately. I pulled over as far as I could but the car completely died right in front a no parking sign. I had to wait for three hours in the freezing cold to get the car towed to the dealer. After two days, the dealer confirmed that the ICCU unit had failed and it would be replaced under warranty. One month later, I still do not have my car back, as the part is on backorder. Luckily, we had not taken this car to the mountains 1 week prior, or we would have been stranded in the freezing cold with minimal cell phone reception.

On 1/3/2026 I attempted to charge my car using my at-home level 2 charger. When charging initiated, the breaker tripped. I reset the breaker and tried again, but the same issue repeated. I attempted to charge my car by plugging directly into a GFCI outlet using the level 1 charger that came with the car, but this tripped the GFCI breaker. I had enough battery to drive to the dealer, and Hyundai diagnosed the issue as an ICCU failure. In my particular case, I wasn't put in danger, since the failure did not occur while driving. But this model and other models based on this platform have experienced a pattern of failures with this component. In some cases, the ICCU fails while driving in such a way that the car goes into a limp mode before becoming inoperable. I'm grateful this did not happen to me. I felt it was important to report this issue if only as a record of one more ICCU failure associated with this model.

Our 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 had the ICCU software update recall and subsequent complete failure of the ICCU, which was repaired. Yesterday the car again warned us of the 12v system failure and rendered it not only undrivable and unstartable, but also unlockable in the public parking area where it still sits awaiting a tow to the dealer tomorrow (they are closed on New Years Day. This is the second time the ICCU has failed, rendering the car totally inoperable and in this case stranding my wife in freezing cold.

On the drive home the car dinged at me and put up the "Power Limited" message with the turtle icon. This limited me to 15mph maximum, so I ended up driving home in the shoulder as the roads are 50mph roads and would have created a major incident if I tried to stay in the lane. I was within a mile of my house so I limped home and pulling into the driveway the car switched to "Check Electrical Systems" and "12V battery voltage low. Stop Safely" as I pulled into the garage. This was at 8pm so I was not able to do anything else. I was able to have Hyundai Roadside Assistance tow the car, which did turn on next day in the morning to pull out of the garage and turn around. The car sat at the dealership for a week until they were able to look at it an confirm that the ICCU was broken. This happened right before New Years so I get taking a week to look at it. Right now they mentioned the part is on backorder and there is no schedule for repairs. This is a major issue for this line of cars and needs to be resolved. The car is not safe to drive long distance as this is the second time this has happened. For a 2023 model year it is almost a yearly occurrence now. My warranty will run out by mileage in ~44k miles and at that point this defect will be my responsibility.

The message "Check Electrical System" was displayed. The hazard light was activated but quickly became inoperable. The contact called AAA towing, where a power booster was attached to the vehicle, and the vehicle was restarted. The contact was able to drive back to the residence. The AAA driver indicated that he had towed eight other similar vehicles to the same local dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

My vehicle has experienced three separate failures of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and two separate 12-volt battery failures. All manufacturer recalls related to the ICCU have been completed. Each of these five events required towing and resulted in either an inability to start the vehicle, or a sudden loss of power while driving, including limp mode. During multiple events, the vehicle displayed a warning message stating “Stop vehicle and check power supply” accompanied by a red battery icon. The sudden loss of power created a serious safety risk to me and to others on the road, particularly when the vehicle lost propulsion unexpectedly. In each case, the vehicle became unsafe or impossible to operate. For every incident, the problem was diagnosed by authorized Hyundai dealer, and I was informed that the issue had been repaired. Despite these repairs and recall actions, the same failures continued to occur. These repeated ICCU and 12-volt battery failures demonstrate an ongoing electrical system defect that has not been permanently corrected and presents a continuing risk of sudden power loss.

A water bottle spilled from back seat during sudden deceleration due to traffic. Thd bottle hit the back of the drivers seat and some of the contents spilled, I felt moisture from under seat on my ankles. Shortly after the car systems started reporting they were not working. By the time I returned home not even the turn signals worked and I could log turn off the EV. Car towed to desler who determined there are critical electrical connectors under the seat that showed signs of a short and corrosion. This is not covered by manufactures warranty and thd dealer presented me with an estimate over 11,000 to replace the drivers seat and floor wiring harnesses. I also filed a chain under my comprehensive insurance which was denied as the insurance company believes the corrosion was ongoing vs an all of the sudden issue. I believe the Ioniq has design flaws as critical connections should be better protected. Kids in thd back seat and front seats can frequently spill things and this fat seems way to fragile with this type of design. This problem occurred October 9th and the car is still with the dealer I need help please.

I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety defect in my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 that occurred on 5/14/2025. The vehicle experienced a complete failure of the 12-volt auxiliary battery while parked in my driveway. As a result, the vehicle became fully unresponsive (“bricked”), and I was unable to open the passenger side front door, either of the rear passenger doors, or the back lift door. Only the front driver door could be opened manually and it had been unlocked at the time of the battery failure. I suspect that if I had locked the door prior to the battery failure I would have been locked in the car and I would have had to call for emergency help. This failure posed a significant safety risk, as passengers or I could have been trapped in the vehicle if this had occurred while on the road, in an emergency, or in a remote location. Larger or mobility-impaired passengers would likely be unable to exit safely through the narrow front passenger side if I had been able to open it. Even if I had broken the windows, it is unlikely that larger people could have escaped. There are no mechanical release mechanisms for the doors, and no clear emergency override was functional during this failure. This issue is further exacerbated by the fact that: •The Ioniq 5 relies entirely on the 12V system for door actuation and vehicle wake-up, even when the high-voltage battery is full. •There is no redundancy or mechanical failsafe for opening all doors in a total electrical failure. I have since lift wheel towed the vehicle to the Hyundai of Escondido where the 12V battery was diagnosed as faulty and replaced. The service representative acknowledged other similar occurrences and acknowledged there has been no permanent resolution or acknowledgment of the inherent design risk in such scenarios. This is not an isolated case — numerous owners have reported similar issues across online EV forums and to NHTSA. The lack of emergency door egress is a unexcusable defect.

The ICCU in my car has failed twice, within an 8 month period. (this submission is to report the 2nd occurrence) At each occurrence, after starting the vehicle, a loud pop was heard. The pop sound is known to be the fuse in-line with the ICCU. After driving the car a short distance, the dashboard displayed warning messages to "Check Electric Vehicle System" and to pull the car to a safe area. Fortunately, I was not moving fast and I was able to get the car safely parked within a few minutes.

I am reporting a safety concern with my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 related to Hyundai placing remote safety features behind a paid subscription. Hyundai has locked two functions that affect safety: (1) the ability to remotely check the vehicle’s battery state of charge, and (2) the ability to remotely unlock the doors from a phone. These functions previously existed under BlueLink but were removed unless the owner pays for the new Connected Services package. 1. Remote battery status Without paying the subscription, I cannot check the vehicle’s battery level while it is charging. If I need to leave the charging area or am charging from home and not directly watching the dashboard, there is no way to verify whether charging completed or stalled. Charging interruptions are common with EVs. This could leave me stranded unexpectedly in unsafe conditions, at night, or in severe weather. This is a safety issue, not a convenience issue. 2. Remote unlock Hyundai also removed the ability to unlock the car from my phone unless I pay for the subscription. This creates a safety hazard if a child accidentally locks themselves in the car with the key fob inside. Without remote unlock, the parent may have to break a window or wait for emergency responders, which creates risk of heat or cold exposure to a child. This problem is reproducible every time I attempt to use the app without a paid subscription. Hyundai has been contacted and has not offered a safety solution except paying the subscription fee. I am asking NHTSA to review whether locking basic safety functions behind a paywall creates a safety defect that could put vehicle occupants at risk.

Car indicated 12v battery was critically low and that I should stop safely. I was just starting it in a parking lot. This is a classic ICCU failure and the car is up to date on all recall updates. The car requires manual key unlocking for outside access at this point, and the rear hatch is only unlockable using the manual release mechanism which is recessed into the rear hatch and needs the key. The back two doors cannot be opened at all, from either direction and the handles don't work when the electrical system has failed and the child lock was engaged accidentally when it happened. This legitimately terrifies me for anyone traveling with back seat passengers who need quick exit. There isn't one.

False charge readings mean the vehicle cannot be trusted to complete any trip safely. I have been left stranded multiple times on the turnpike of 80mph speed limit due to sudden total system failure. Hyundai has not resolved the root cause. They continue replacing batteries with the same defective system. This vehicle is fundamentally unsafe and unreliable. I should not be required to drive a vehicle with a battery system documented to fail catastrophically and repeatedly. On 11/7/25 , we were driving my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 to a friend's home in rural [XXX] , a trip of approximately 160 miles. At around 5:00 PM, we stopped about halfway to our destination to charge the battery. The car would not charge above 47%. While we continued to attempt to charge the battery, the console displayed a Check Electrical System Warning message, and we received the DTC P1AA700 via BlueLink. We were concerned about our safety on the drive up to the mountains. We were afraid the car would stop running on the highway and cause an accident. We were also concerned the car would die in a remote area and we would be stranded. However, the dealership was closed for the weekend. We drove carefully to our friend's home. I contacted Stevens Creek Hyundai on 11/10/25 and arranged to bring the car in on 11/11/25. It had 13,652 miles on it at that time. Eventually, the dealer confirmed the DTC P1AA700 and said they would need to order a new EGMP battery. The car was in the shop for 128 days, waiting for Hyundai to "build a battery" in [XXX] . Eventually, Stevens Creek Hyundai replaced the EV battery and I picked up the car. After jump starting the car, everything works as normal. I am able to turn off and turn on again as expected. 12v battery was tested and seems to be fine. I was on a trip about 1 hour from my home in an area of Massachusetts that developed an electrical blackout. I almost ran out of power on a dark road with no streetlights. I was lucky to find a level 3 charger just on the outside of the blackout area when my car had less than 5% power. I brought the car to the Hyundai service center 2 weeks ago. I called daily for updates and was told they were "diagnosing" the problem. I called again, yesterday and was told it needed an ICCU. On 12/13 while driving back home at a red light at night, we heard a loud pop at the driver's rear side and suddenly the dash displayed a warning stating "Check electric vehicle system". The car then would not drive past 25 mph and kept flashing the warning. We got it home safe, and planned on dropping it off at the dealership the next day after jumping it. The next day however, after multiple attempts to jump the car's battery, it would not start enough to move it. I bought this ioniq 5 pre-owned at 10,000 miles on 6/21/25. Clean carfax and no active recalls. One mile off the lot the system I received the message "12V battery voltage low. Stop safely." The car completely turned off. Could not put it in neutral. I was stranded on the road and it could have caused an accident. I got it towed near an auto shop and bought a new battery, thinking it was just a dead 12V battery. The car turned on and seemed to resolved the issue, but after 20 minutes of driving, it completely turned off again on the road. Very dangerous. ICCU Failure — Severe Safety Risk and Repeated Incident The ICCU in my Hyundai has failed twice. Both times, the car suddenly and completely lost power while I was driving — no warning lights, no gradual slowdown, just total loss of control. The car lost its ability to accelerate during rush hour on a very busy interstate while I was in the far left lane. It started by jerking really hard off and on, like a very hard brake for a second, and then normal for a few seconds, and then hard braking again. I could accelerate after the "braking". There were no warnings or errors. This continued for about a minute while I was trying to decide if it was triggered by accelerating or braking, and I couldn't figure it out. At that point, I couldn't accelerate and received a number of lights and a message to check the EV system or the electrical system. I don't remember because at that point I was trying to immediately figure out how to pull over and not get hit. Luckily, it was slow enough and traffic had just thinned out enough, having passed a popular exit, so that I could coast to the shoulder across all of the traffic. I noticed at this point that the car was in neutral. I couldn't shift into drive, however. I tried to see if turning it off and back on might help. It did at that point. There were no error messages, and I could shift into drive and drive normally after turning it off and back on. Again, I wasn't concerned with documenting an error message that I assumed would be stored. The car is available for inspection. The safety of myself and my kids and other drivers around me was at risk as we could not accelerate and I was in the far left lane to the right of an express lane and left of a lot of traffic to have to cross to get out of traffic. No, the problem has not been reproduced, and it was taken in the next morning to the dealer who found nothing wrong and no stored error codes. No lamps or messages appeared before the loss of acceleration and promptly disappeared after restarting the car. Nothing was stored for the dealer to retrieve, either. The dealer ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong.

No light including emergencies lights worked. This happened to me in my driveway. But it happens to other owners driving down the freeway and they suddently have to pull over. Hyundai advised me to have the car towed to the dealership service center where they diagnosed an ICCU failure. This has been happening to to 2-5% of Kia and Hyundai electric cars. I was told the ICCU was on extreme backorder. I waited ~6 weeks for my car to be repaired. Note that there were two recalls for the ICCU unit previously and I performed those recalls promptly. There were no other warnings at all before the Check Electrical Systems error and sudden loss of power.

While driving home on March 4 2026, the dashboard displayed the warning "Check vehicle electrical system," and then a "pull over safely" warning. I had to leave the vehicle in a parking lot and walk home. It was towed to a dealer on March 5, 2026 to diagnose and repair the problem. The car has just under 17000 miles on it. I was told the dealer was swamped with Ioniqs with this problem and had no ETA for parts. Fortunately they will be able to repair our car next week. Hyundai claims the replacement part has been redesigned to address the problem. Interestingly, I'm reading that Hyundai has issued a recall for some vehicles of this make and model year for this very serious issue; mind bogglingly we received no such notice.

We had the Internal Charge Control Unit replaced due to a warranty recall a couple years ago and it failed again on Dec. 23, 2025. The car has been at the dealer ever since, waiting for a replacement ICCU. The car refuses to charge and the dealer has diagnosed the issue as a faulty ICCU. Due to a heavy brake application a water bottle in the back seat spilled and the water traveled under the drivers seat. This resulted in multiple car systems going offline, vehicle reporting LKAS error and inability to turn the car off. This essentially bricked the vehicle. Repair in order to correct the shorts and corrosion from the water both the drivers seat and main floor wiring harnesses require replacement cost estimate approximately $12,000. These key electrical connections under drivers seat are not adequately protected from simple water damage. This in my opinion makes the vehicle unfit for use as a family EV SUV as a simple water bottle still should not be able to brick a car. I consider this a design defect and the manufacturer is not covering this under warranty.

Several times now the "Check Driver Assistance System" and "Check Lane Assist System" have come on and stayed on. I brought the car dealership, and they fixed it--but only temporarily--the problem recurs within a few days of the fix. All of the sensor cameras are clean. I have read that a weak 12-volt battery can cause this problem, but the car has only 28k miles on it, so the battery should not be weak yet. I will bring the car back to the dealer (again) and have them check the 12-volt battery strength. But I am at the point where the "check system" messages are on more than they are working correctly.

OnXXX, as we approached what I call the 6 o’clock position of a round-about in [XXX], we had braked almost to a full stop (0-5 mph) to wait on the car ahead of us to enter the round-about when we felt increasing movement. Despite braking, to wait on that car, our car with increasing speed started shoving that car into the circle. Fortunately, he was able to drive away from us, but that car had been damaged on the back and right side. With that obstacle out of the way, our car rapidly and exponentially increased speed - all while we were fully braking. Two witnesses said they saw our brake lights as we sped along. We hit the curb as we approached the 12 o’clock exit, and that turned us so that we crossed both lanes of the road and headed towards the far sidewalk and storefronts. When we hit that curb it pushed us diagonally to face the street again. Hard to estimate but we must have been doing 50 mph when we hit a very large brick planter and we finally were wedged to a stop when we slammed in between two vehicles parked parallel to the sidewalk. The motor ran for a few seconds after we stopped, and finally quit on its own. We KNOW the brake was applied the whole time; there were no visual or audible alarms from the car as we entered “UNINTENDED ACCELERATION”. Despite the incredibly strong impact (our car has been deemed totaled) the front air bags did not deploy. Only the driver’s side curtain deployed. The bumper of the parked transport van on our front left was damaged, and the small SUV on our front right was deemed totaled. No people were in those two parked cars; the first car was hit at the initial slower speed so those people were not injured. By some grace, no pedestrians were in our path or they would surely have been killed. The driver of our car (my husband) was miraculously not injured, but CT scans and x-rays showed I had several contusions and a fractured tibia that will require surgery due to brake, propulsion, no air bags. On April 4, 2026, the vehicle was towed via Hyundai roadside assistance to Winner Hyundai in Dover, Delaware, where Tracy is my current point of contact. This situation left my family of four, along with our belongings and pet, stranded without transportation. Despite significant effort, we were unable to secure a rental vehicle in the Dewey Beach area, even after contacting multiple rental agencies and the dealership directly. This was later resolved, and I am currently in a rental through Enterprise; however, the stress and uncertainty of potentially being stranded was significant and unacceptable. While at the dealership, my wife witnessed the tow operator unloading the vehicle without proper equipment to safely lower it. As a result, the vehicle’s hitch made forceful contact with the pavement and became lodged. Multiple dealership employees observed the incident. After considerable effort to free the vehicle, it was released abruptly and rolled into another vehicle on the lot, causing additional damage. An argument then occurred between the dealership owner and the tow operator, which my wife was forced to witness. My son and I were in the car at the time of the [XXX] incident and were very fortunate that we did not hurt anyone or ourselves when the brakes didn’t work. As of today, the Hyundai dealer (Roseville, CA) says they are repairing a brake component that was defective but they missed this on the 2/28/26 inspection. I am reporting a safety-related defect involving unintended vehicle movement on my Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Model Year 2023, SEL AWD). Observed behavior: With the vehicle in Drive and the Auto Hold function active (indicated by the white “AUTO HOLD” indicator in the instrument cluster), I brought the vehicle to a complete stop by pressing the brake pedal. Auto Hold engaged (text now green), the vehicle remained stationary, and I removed my foot from the brake. After approximately three minutes of remaining stopped, a driver-assistance system error message appeared on the instrument cluster. At that point, Auto Hold disengaged (the “AUTO HOLD” indicator disappeared), and the vehicle began to creep forward on its own. I did not command acceleration, did not press the accelerator pedal, and did not intentionally release the brake. The movement was unexpected and created a safety risk. The first occurrence happened in a school drop-off line with the vehicle stopped near other vehicles and pedestrians. I have since reproduced the behavior and captured it on video. Related observations: Similar driver-assistance system errors have occurred while the vehicle was in Park and in Drive, with or without Auto Hold active. In those cases, the vehicle did not move because it was either mechanically locked or I had my foot on the brake. In all cases, Auto Hold deactivated. Safety concern: This behavior raises concerns about the reliability of Auto Hold and its interaction with braking and driver-assistance systems, particularly after the vehicle has been stationary for an extended period. Unintended forward movement presents a significant safety hazard. I am reporting this issue for investigation of potential defects in software, sensors, or control logic. While stopped at a stop light, "check electrical system" warning flashed on instrument panel without any prior warning or malfunction. I was only able to move the car about 50 feet before all power and controls failed. I was in a middle lane and was barely able to move the car out of traffic. Tow truck driver with a large jump start battery pack was able to give it enough power for me to crawl it onto their flatbed, my small lithium jumpstart pack was only enough to get the rest of its doors unlocked. Battery temperature was about 30 degrees F, state of charge 75 percent, had been driving from home less than 10 minutes, car had been sitting outside for a few days. Problem diagnosed as ICCU failure by dealer service department, now waiting on replacement part to complete repair.

My 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 suffered a sudden Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure that put me in grave danger. As I left my workplace in the evening, I heard a “pop” sound and got the dashboard warning, “Check Electrical Vehicle System.” It was unclear what the warning meant. I had 65% charge left at that point. As I began driving, the gas pedal “stuck,” not allowing me to accelerate past 25 mph, and it felt like the car was dragging. I did not know what was happening. The “Check Electrical Vehicle System” warning returned but gave no indication of whether it was safe to drive or what to check in the electrical system. Driving very slowly, I made it out of the military base (my workplace), parked outside of a closed establishment, and called my husband. He told me to drive further up the road to a well-lit shopping area. I exited the parking lot and entered the intersection of a four-lane highway – and suddenly, when I was in the center about to turn in the direction of traffic, the car stopped and would not respond to the gas pedal. I could not accelerate and was stuck in the middle of the highway. After several frantic pushes on the gas pedal, I was able to coast downward to the shoulder and exit the vehicle. My husband and I had brought the car to the dealer in February 2025 for the December 20, 2024 ICCU recall (NHTSA Recall 24V-868, Hyundai Recall 272). The dealer merely inspected the car and updated its ICCU software. Per Hyundai guidance, it did not replace the ICCU itself. It is taking no apparent steps to do so for 2023 Ioniq 5 owners, leaving us in danger. The seriousness of this problem is compounded by the lack of adequate warning when it occurs out of the blue. The generic “Check Electrical Vehicle System” indicator on the dashboard did not indicate what precisely in the electrical system to check, how serious the issue was, or how much of the 12-volt battery power was left. Hyundai must rectify this issue before others are hurt.

I was traveling 70mph on Interstate 70 when I heard a loud “pop” sound and the car immediately slowed down to 20mph in heavy traffic. The care then would not go over 20mph.The car was charged at home the night prior. On the dash was the “stop vehicle and check power supply” warning. This is the very common ICCU issues known to plague the Hyundai EV fleet. This is very dangerous when your are in heavy interstate traffic going at a high rate of speed.

I suddenly received errors that my sensors weren’t working, and I can no longer use my cruise control. The car has less than 60,000 miles so it still has the full bumper to bumper warranty. I have never had a collision. So I took it in to the dealer and they said the camera was mis-aligned and is not covered under warranty. It should be covered as I’ve never had a collision. Based on my online research, many people with Hyundai Ioniq 5s have experienced this same issue at no fault of their own, so it is a systemic problem. NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Vehicle Information: Year: 2023 Make: Hyundai Model: Ioniq 5 VIN: [XXX] Mileage: Over 137,000 miles 15 States Driven: AZ, TX, GA, CA, MI (with damage here primarily) Complaint: My 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has experienced persistent and severe safety failures since delivery in January 2023, including: Complete power and control loss at highway speeds Repeated BMS/12V failures (even at 30% state of charge) Nonworking rear brake lights at night for over one year False-alarming and nonfunctional parking sensors Interior wear faster than normal; more These failures have created life-threatening hazards for me and my children, who regularly ride in the vehicle. The vehicle is under an active federal safety recall, which under 49 U.S.C. § 30118–30120 requires dealers and manufacturers to repair recalled vehicles promptly, without regard to profitability or cost. Despite repeated written requests, Pedder Hyundai (Poway, CA) refused to perform recall repairs, obstructed resolution, blocked corporate contact, and threatened to tow the vehicle illegally at my expense within 48 hours, demonstrating reckless disregard for consumer safety and federal law. A police report documenting criminal endangerment, conversion, and aggravated consumer endangerment is pending, and the lender of the vehicle has been notified of breach of contract. These issues appear systemic, affecting multiple vehicles of this model, and have resulted in: Frequent, unexpected towing with surprise expenses and downtime Significant risk of injury or death due to power/control loss Repeated failures despite warranty and recall obligations I request NHTSA investigate immediately, ensure recall repairs are completed promptly, and take any action necessary to protect public safety. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 ICCU failed with DTC P1A9096 which renders the vehicle in limp mode once the 12V battery drains. This is a major issue which keeps happening even after severals recalls with software updates related to this problem. When this incident happened i had gotten all the recalls and software updates available for the entire care and still it failed prematurely at 35K miles.

Vehicle stopped responding to all inputs while cruising on the highway. Vehicle was charged and running fine up until that point, for about 40 minutes of continuous driving. Accelerator pedal, regen paddle shifters, cruise control buttons all would not work and display was unresponsive. Vehicle slowly lost speed as if it was shifted into neutral, forcing us to pull over to the side of the road. Turning vehicle off, waiting for a minute, and turning it back on restored functions. Vehicle malfunction occurred right after a busy intersection on LA highways and we were able to make it to the shoulder, but if it had happened just 1-2 minutes earlier, we would have been in a lot of traffic merging in and out of lanes at significant speeds. There were no warning lights, messages, or auditory alerts during the occurrence. Vehicle simply lost all power. When I took it into the dealer for inspection the next day, the service staff were unable to find any issues or errors during diagnostics. Battery health was in the green and vehicle checked out fine and was released to me after a thorough inspection.
