I tried to start car and it started but would not go into drive. A message saying "12v battery voltage low. Stop safely." Was on the screen. I turned the car off and back on and was able to drive home. Once home I tried to charge the car but it would not charge. However I left it plugged in and came back several hours later and the car had charged some. I started the car and the messages did not appear. The next day i went to drive the car and the car was totally dead. The auto key would not unlock the car. Thank goodness , I was not driving when the battery died. I took it to the dealer. This is the 2nd 12v battery I have had to replace in 4 years. The first replacement was covered under warranty. I asked them to try to identify the root cause of the 12v batteries dying so quickly and they claim it is only the 12v battery. I feel unsafe driving the car now knowing it could happen at any moment again, maybe while driving. I think the problem is related to the ICCU as my symptoms are very similar to other people with ICCU issues.

Upon starting the car, it made an audible "pop", and the dash indicated to check the 12V power supply and "low available power" with a turtle indicator, and an "EV!" warning lamp. The car struggled to accelerate out of the parking lot, and within a minute, the dash displayed a "power failure" message, and the car lost all ability to accelerate while on the road, forcing an emergency pull-over. The 12V system completely failed while waiting for a tow truck, complicating the already poorly-documented and complicated process of disengaging the vehicle's automatic parking break for loading onto the flatbed trailer. The dealership performed diagnostics and confirmed an ICCU failure. After waiting for parts and technician availability, the ICCU was replaced with part number 36400-1XAA0-AQQH "ICCU Assy" and returned to me 32 days later.

Car gave a "electrical error" message and would no longer charge at any charger. It slowly lost power and eventually stopped driving fully on the highway. The dealer says the ICCU is responsible. I inquired if this recall was not fixed already, they said it was but can still happen and the ICCU is not resolved truly, the software is just a temporary fix according to them. My ioniq 5 EV experienced an integrated charge control unit (ICCU) failure. A couple days prior to complete failure, we were unable to charge the vehicle using either level 1 or level 2 chargers. Our local Hyundai service center advised us that it was likely an ICCU failure and was unsafe to drive, due to the possibility of sudden loss of drivetrain power. The vehicle was towed to our local service center (CardinaleWay Hyundai El Monte in El Monte, California) and the ICCU completely failed after arriving at the service center. The vehicle is still at the service center and we have been advised that there is a nationwide shortage on replacement parts, with backorders of weeks to months.

For the past few days, our 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (approx. 83,000 miles) has been unable to charge using AC charging (Level 1 or Level 2). The failure is repeatable and consistent across multiple chargers: two separate home Level 2 chargers, the Hyundai-provided Level 1 charger, and a neighbor’s Level 2 charger. In each case, charging either fails to start or stops shortly after initiating. DC fast charging continues to work normally. Component/system suspected: The problem appears related to the vehicle’s onboard AC charging system (possible ICCU, onboard charger/OBC, charge port/inlet, or related high-voltage charging components). The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: This creates a safety concern because we cannot reliably charge the vehicle at home or at most public charging locations (which are predominantly Level 2 AC). This increases the risk of unexpectedly running out of charge and becoming stranded in unsafe locations, especially where DC fast chargers are not available. Reproduction/confirmation: The issue has been reproduced on multiple independent AC chargers, making it unlikely to be caused by a single EVSE/charger. A dealer appointment is scheduled for diagnosis and confirmation. Warning lamps/messages: When attempting AC charging, the vehicle reports a charging failure/unsuccessful charging condition (exact message UNKNOWN). No prior warning lamps were noticed before the issue began (UNKNOWN). This issue appears to be widespread based on numerous similar owner reports of AC charging failure on Ioniq 5 vehicles while DC fast charging still works, suggesting a potential systemic defect in the onboard charging/ICCU-related hardware.

My car is one of many Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles that has experienced an ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure. This results in a car that is not drivable, and generally needs to be pulled over within a few miles, as it no longer can be driven above about 35 mph. It also will no longer charge on AC charging (level 1/2), since the ICCU is needing to convert AC -> DC to charge the main battery. I first noticed something was wrong when the car only charged to 90% even though I set it to 100%, since I wanted it ready for the storm. I drove normally after that. When I tried to charge again, the breaker tripped. L1 charging also tripped the breaker. V2L didn’t work either. The weird part: the orange light was still on, and it was still charging the 12V battery multiple times. I have a battery monitor and everything looked normal. I was also able to drive the car to the dealer with no issues at all. No warning lights or errors on the dashboard. Dealer diagnosed it as an ICCU failure. Part is on backorder with no ETA

The ICCU failed to charge the car via level 1 (120VAC or 240VAC), but does charge using public DC chargers. Fortunately the issue occurred at home so no traffic issue occurred, in this case. The level 1 charger indicated a fault and would not charge the car. I drove the vehicle without any issues to a public charger and established that the DC charging is working. Hyundai repair center diagnosed the problem and confirmed that a repair is needed. I am currently awaiting a repair. The fault was diagnosed on January 22, 2026 and as of June 01, 2026 no repair has been done.

I have had multiple issues believed to be related to the ICCU. The first issue was that my 12V battery deteriorated and died prematurely. I had to purchase a jump start charger and ultimately replace the OEM 12V battery in 2024 (within the first 2 years of owning my new vehicle) because it was failing to reliably start and I was at risk of being stranded every time I parked and turned off my vehicle. The 2nd issue occurred in Dec 2025 - the vehicle stopped charging with L1/L2 chargers. The dealer did not have availability to diagnose for 3+ weeks (until Jan'26), during which my only option was to use L3 Fast DC chargers (severely limiting my options for when/where I charge and costing a premium price). Once the dealer inspected my vehicle, they confirmed it was the ICCU and informed me there is a nationwide shortage and that it would be 6-8 weeks before a replacement was available. I'm currently at week 4 (mid-Feb) with no ETA currently available, so I'm forced to drive a replacement vehicle (and make alternative arrangements for personal travel that would violate replacement vehicle terms & conditions).

In summer 2025, the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failed and was replaced under a Hyundai recall at no cost. On December 4, 2025, warning lights reappeared. College Park Hyundai diagnosed a faulty battery related to the prior ICCU failure. I paid out of pocket for a 12-volt battery replacement and additional maintenance, as the dealership claimed the battery was not covered. A “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning appeared immediately after I picked up the vehicle that same day. On December 5, 2025, I returned the vehicle to College Park Hyundai with 20,415 miles. They diagnosed a failed main EV drivetrain battery requiring warranty replacement. As of April 5, 2026, my vehicle has been at the dealership for 122 consecutive days with no repair completed, no replacement battery received, and no estimated completion date. Despite repeated follow-ups, I have received no meaningful updates on repair status or battery availability. I have been without my vehicle for four months with no resolution in sight. This extended delay represents a significant safety concern and an unacceptable failure of Hyundai’s warranty obligations.

Both times were shortly after driving the car, so the 12V battery should have been fully charged. I believe multiple recall campaigns have been made related to this issue, but my car still appears to exhibit the symptoms after receiving the updates. * I believe the ICCU software is faulty and is not correctly charging the 12V battery. * This fault makes the car likely to strand my family unexpectedly (a safety issue), as it affects even the newly replaced 12V battery. * I have not taken this vehicle back to the dealership since the ICCU was replaced, since the 12V battery has only drained twice since then, I feel like it is unlikely they will be able to reproduce the issue. * No warning lamps or fault codes stored in the ECU.

The ICCU system on this vehicle and related vehicles in the Hyundai/Kia line up seem to have a significant design flaw. I have no confidence a new ICCU part will 'fix' the issue. This will just push the issue out again until the new 12v battery dies and we do it all over again.

I know Hyundai says this only affects 1% of vehicles, but the 2 people we also know with the same car have had the same failure, so this seems impossible so I wanted to report it. - The ICCU broke and fuse blew while charging. It blew while charging at 24 amps and actually blew the adjacent breaker as well in our panel. - The ICCU and main fuse were confirmed to be blown by the dealer in October. - There were no symptoms or warning lights most of the time; it just blew our panel breaker and would no longer AC charge. While trying to charge it, it did briefly show an electrical vehicle system error code, but when we turned it off and back on it went away. - My understanding is that with a blown fuse and ICCU it does not charge the 12v battery, so while we could drive the car and not even realize there was a problem, the battery could die while driving and create a very unsafe situation.

Car started issuing a burning smell, emitting a noxious burning smell through the air vents making it impossible to drive with the windows closed. The HVAC system had to be shut off. The Ioniq 5 and all E-GMP Hyundai vehicles have known issues with the charging port and ICCU (integrated charging control unit). This vehicle has had all previous recalls related to charging and the ICCU addressed, but it has still resulted in failure of the vehicle charging port. Dealership stated charging port needed to be replaced, but stated it would not be covered under warranty with now explanation provided despite the fact that this is still covered under several recalls.

My 2022 Ioniq 5 had an ICCU failure in March 2025. It has been with the dealership for 10 days. It does not charge on 220 v AC L2 charger. It does charge on public DC fast chargers but at approximately 120 KWH not 350 KWH. There are no error codes on the dash, however the ChargePoint charger trips with a GFCI fault. GFCI fault in a high voltage system could pose a serious safety issue. ChargePoint (the L2 charger manufacturer) support checked, and said they see a GFCI fault when my car is plugged in. To make sure it is not a charger error, I had another car, a Kia EV6 plugged in to the same ChargePoint charger, and it charged normally.

Whatever the current fix is for the ICCU is clearly incomplete, at the Seattle Hyundai dealership there are 6 cars all waiting 6+ weeks on replacement parts for this issue. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V868000 (Electrical System) and 24V204000 (Electrical System). The contact stated that approximately three weeks later while the vehicle was parked, the message 12-Volt battery low was displayed on the instrument panel. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled three weeks in advance. After driving the vehicle to the residence and the vehicle was parked, the vehicle failed to start. The battery was recharged for 15 minutes, and the vehicle was able to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 4,000.

According to you records my car is not under a recall but the part failed. Glad I wasn't on the road. So my car has sat at the dealership since February 24th. Hyundai doesn't seem concerned about getting the parts to the dealership. This is why they can't give me an ETA: "Please note that part orders can take several days or even weeks to arrive depending on the availability and supply chain logistics, as outlined in Hyundai's policies." So they are still turning out Ioniqs but can't be bothered to make sure cars with an ICCU failure are safe and can drive. I can't sell my car and I am stuck. I also believe the 1% you say are effected by this problem is much higher.

My 2022 Ioniq 5 had an ICCU failure on February 2025. On February 12, 2025 I was not able to charge the car. I took it to the dealer twice for an ICCU software update. The first software update was on October 15, 2024. The second software update was January 16 2025. The third time was on February 13, 2025 for an ICCU failure. The car is at the dealership and waiting for the part so it can be replaced. If you need to do an inspection the car is at the dealership. There was no warning, it just will not take a charge. I have been waiting for a little over a month for the part to arrive at the dealership for replacement. I've call the dealership multiple times inquiring about the new replacement. They have no idea when this part will become available. I'm frustrated because no one knows anything so my car sits on their lot waiting for a part that I feel they should have in stock. Hyundai has known about the ICCU failures since 2022. Why Hyundai dealerships do not have ICCU's readily available? Knowing very well about these recalls and failures.

Less than 48 hours after getting the latest Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) recall performed (Hyundai Recall Number 272, NHTSA Recall Number 24V-868), the ICCU on my car failed. This resulted in the 12V battery no longer being charged by the EV's main battery, and the car entering "Limp-Home Mode", limiting the car's speed to 20mph. Error messages include "Check electric vehicle system" and "Stop vehicle and check power supply". These messages appeared when the ICCU failed, not before. ICCU failures are well known with this car, hence the recall. However, there is anecdotal evidence in the Ioniq 5 Facebook forums that indicate that the ICCU failure rate INCREASES on cars that have had the recall performed. Hyundai and the NHTSA need to examine the failure data to see if there is a cause-and-effect relationship between recall repair and increased failure rate, or if the failures observed by the community are just coincidental.

2022 Ioniq 5 SE. ICCU failed April 2026 with around 29325 miles. Original owner. Purchased June 2022. I had the original Recall 272 software update performed back in February 2025, but the hardware still failed a year later. **Timeline of Failure:** 1. **Phase 1 (The Trigger):** Level 2 charging stopped unexpectedly before reaching the limit. It tripped my house breaker and unfortunately killed my Level 2 EVSE (Grizzl-E) with a stuck relay. Didn't think too much of it because I had to be somewhere. Car started up normally and I was able to drive throughout the day with no problems. 2. **Phase 2 (The Warning):** The next day, I attempted Level 1 charging. It immediately tripped the breaker. I tried another outlet on a different breaker; the breaker didn't trip, but the car failed to initiate a charge after three attempts. 3. **Phase 3 (Dashboard Error):** After third failed attempt with the L1, I took a peek inside and saw the dashboard had a yellow triangle. With the charger still plugged in, I sat in the driver's seat and turned the car on. The **"Check EV System"** error appeared. I turned off the car and went inside to call the dealer. I called the dealer and they said I can have it towed there. They also scheduled an appointment for the next morning. I went back to car to attempt to position the car to make it easier for the tow truck, but the check ev error was not there when I turned on the car. The ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit) failed. The car was in a Hyundai dealer repair shop on November 18, 2025, for an unrelated regular maintenance procedure when (i) the technician noticed a logged ICCU error code generated sometime prior to the shop visit and (ii) after the technician cleared that prior error a second new ICCU error code was generated. The shop replaced the defective ICCU. This car had been serviced on prior occasions to install updated ICCU software, most recently as part of NHTSA's recall 24V868000 of November 18, 2024 (also known as Hyundai Safety Recall 272), intended to eliminate such ICCU failures. Installation of that software as the remedy for recall 24V868000 clearly did not prevent the very ICCU failure it was intended to guard against. Please note also that it is common knowledge (as disseminated on various Ioniq 5 forums and Reddit groups) that large numbers of later Ioniq 5 vehicles with newer VINs not included in recall 24V868000, i.e., from model year 2025 onward, have also suffered from these failures despite being initially placed into service with the updated ICCU software, as well as many other pre-2025 remedied vehicles. The Hyundai ICCU software currently in operation on both remedied cars from recall 24V868000 as well as newer cars not subject to that recall is clearly entirely ineffective as a solution to this very serious safety issue. I strongly urge NHTSA to (i) declare the existing ICCU software to be an ineffective remedy for recall 24V868000, (ii) include all Hyundai Ioniq 5 cars for all model years, whether running current ICCU software or not, to be part of the group of unremedied and unsafe vehicles, and (iii) extend recall 24V868000 until such time as Hyundai can actually demonstrate that an effective remedy exists and is being made available to all Ioniq 5 vehicles.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) in my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq has not been diagnosed or repaired despite being at the dealership for 3 months for a safety recall. The ICCU controls the vehicle’s electrical and charging systems, and a malfunction could prevent the vehicle from charging or operating properly, creating a risk of loss of propulsion while driving. Two different Hyundai dealers have had the vehicle since July 11, 2025, but no diagnosis or repair has been completed. I have escalated the issue to Hyundai Corporate, but there has been no resolution or communication of a timeline. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No warning lamps or messages were reported prior to the dealer receiving the vehicle, as the car was delivered specifically for the recall repair. Due to this unresolved recall, I have been without my vehicle for 3 months, which has caused significant hardship and forced me to rent a vehicle temporarily. I was given a loaner vehicle eventually but this vehicle is not comparable to my ioniq5. Both dealer's gave excuses for the lack of diagnosing and repairs, ranging from "technician is on jurty duty" or "the climate is too hot outside to look at it."

While driving, a warning message displayed on the dashboard stating that there was a fault in the electrical system and that I should pull over and stop the car. As I tried to find a safe place to pull over the car lost power and I pulled onto the shoulder. The shoulder was only as wide as the car. I was stopped on the side of a two lane road with a 55 mph speed limit. In order to exit the car I had to step into the travel lane. The electrical fault resulted in no power available to the warning flasher lights or headlights. This occurred at night with no street lighting to show oncoming drivers that there was a stopped vehicle immediately next to the traffic lane. This put me and other drivers at risk. The vehicle was towed to a dealer capable of working on this type of failure. The dealer determined that the failed component is known as the ICCU. This is a critical part and had been known to fail in this model. My vehicle had already received every software update in an attempt by the manufacturer to avoid the ICCU failure. The dealer replaced the failed ICCU with a new working ICCU. It is my understanding that the replacement ICCU is identical to the failed ICCU and a risk remains that the new one could fail as well with a loss of power while driving at speed.

I had the most recent recall (code 702 I believe) done on January 13th. I believe the recall was an NHTSA required recall and after the software update that was part of the recall my car will no longer charge. It has been with the dealer since January 15th with no resolution in sight. The software update was I believe the 4th such update intended to prevent a part called an ICCU from failing. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) has intermittent failures. During the last failure, my wife was on a busy freeway (Interstate 5 near Hwy 120 northbound) in heavy but fast moving traffic. She was driving in the #2 lane (of 4 lanes) when she experienced sudden loss of propulsion. The vehicle slowed to 5 MPH in traffic that was moving 70 to 80 MPH. She had to traverse through the #3 and #4 lanes to the narrow emergency shoulder. Cars were honking and flipping her off. In the emergency lane, the vehicle completely died after 30 to 60 seconds. She was at risk of being rear ended during the dangerous 5 MPH lane changes and in the time parked in the emergency lane. She could not start the car for 15 minutes, after which the system came back to life. She was then able to start it and continue home. The first time the ICCU failed was in a parking lot. This is a known defect with Hyundai which they have attempted to rectify with Recall Campaign 272. However, they refuse to replace the ICCU. After the first event, they replaced the battery after 22 months/32429 miles. Now they want to replace the battery again after another 20 months/34k miles. What they don't get, is that the batteries have not prematurely failed. Instead the ICCU has intermittently and temporarily drawn the batteries down causing the vehicle to lose propulsion and die. They refuse to replace the ICCU because an error code they were looking for was not in the memory. They have performed three software updates on three separate dealer visits, but the issue has not been resolved. During the last visit they kept my vehicle for six weeks while I appealed through Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the Service manager appealed through his Dealer rep. But the factory engineers held firm and would not approve the ICCU warranty replacement, and instead wanted me to pay for 12V battery replacement. We don't know if there were any warning lights since my wife was busy navigating the danger.

Despite being up-to-date on recalls for this vehicle intended to address failures with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU), I still experienced an ICCU failure. I was driving along a surface road at approximately 40 mph for about 9 minutes when I heard a pop that sounded like cargo shifting in the rear cargo area. The vehicle then flashed a "Check EV System" warning but otherwise continued to operate normally. About 2 minutes later, there was a warning to stop vehicle and check power supply. After I pulled into a parking lot, I restarted the vehicle, but the errors persisted. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed as an ICCU failure. The vehicle was last charged ~15 hours before the failure on a level 2 charger at a peak rate of 6 kw. The vehicle was driven for about an hour after charging, sat overnight, before being driven when the failure occurred. The vehicle is primarily charged using level 1 and 2 charging, typically not exceeding 6.3 kw. Only a handful of times has level 2 charging rates exceeded 6.3 kw. The vehicle previously had the ICCU fail and replaced in 2023. The car is still at the dealership with no repair timeline.

My 2022 Ioniq5 left me stranded late at night in a freezing rainstorm in March of 2024 when I was 75 miles from home at it failed to charge both D/C fast charging and A/C level 2 charging, despite my trying several different chargers. The car gave me the dreaded "Check E/V System" warning when it failed to charge. It turned out to be the notorious ICCU but also the AC inverter, which had to be replaced. It took 12 days. The dealership's initial diagnosis was something draining the 12-volt battery, so I asked if they also replaced that. They said no because it had tested fine, but 9 days after I picked up the car, it did not start because it turned out the 12-volt battery was dead, and my dealership spent 2 days getting Hyundai to approve replacement of the 12-vold under warranty. Last month, 17 January 2026, my Ioniq5 again left me stranded. This time 120 miles from home in a snowstorm. It D/C charged for 10 minutes before the charging stopped and it gave me the dreaded “Check E/V System” warning. I tried two nearby Tesla Superchargers with my Hyundai issued adapter, and they both failed. I had just enough charge to make it to a dealership 110 miles from my home, where the vehicle stayed for nearly a month while they diagnosed and repaired it by replacing the AC inverter (note that had been replaced the last time) and also the AC compressor. The ICCU failures are well-known and well-documented, but the AC inverters that failed on me twice do not seem to be as common and should probably be investigated. In both cases I was stranded on Saturdays when no dealership service departments were open until the following Monday, so I had to pay for a motel overnight, which Hyundai refused to reimburse because I was not at least 150 miles from home.

ICCU and High Voltage Fuse blew suddenly and without warning on a 50 mph poorly lit road before sunrise. Vehicle immediately entered limp mode in traffic. Car could not make it safely back home before losing all power in the middle of the road (no warning was given that limp mode was about to fail it just stopped with all screens still on).The dead 12v battery (which the ICCU failed to recharge) made the car completely immobile once it turned off even for towing purposes. All previous recalls for this problem were completed but were only software updates to "potential lower chances of occurrence". Issue is a very known Hardware issue and is very well documented online and local dealers are extremely familiar with it, but Hyundais solution is only to check if the part has already failed and a software update that does not fully prevent the failure in the future. On [XXX] I was preparing to leave for work in the morning. I unplugged my Ioniq 5 from the home charger, entered the car, and started the vehicle. Immediately, the panel warning system stated “Check Electrical System.” Because I am familiar with the warnings that have been displayed related to ICCU failure, I called the dealership to schedule a service appointment (set for February 18, the following Tuesday). I drove the car to work for a meeting, then restarted the vehicle following the meeting and the same message appeared on the screen. I then drove the vehicle directly to Werner Hyundai Service Department in Tallahassee, Florida and left it for diagnostics. On February 14, 2025, my service advisor called to advise that the ICCU and the VCMS had failed and required replacement. I was then advised that I would be placed on a waiting list for an ICCU part that was expected to be released nationwide on March 1, 2025. As of today’s date, March 8th, I have not been made aware of an ICCU part availability (apparently the VCMS has arrived at the dealership and is being held pending the receipt of an ICCU) nor an anticipated repair of my vehicle, it remains at the dealership service department pending parts availability. My husband unplugged our home charger that uses a 220 volt plug and noted that the plug showed melting damage and that the plug and wall had black marks that suggest that the car caused a malfunction that resulted in a spark in our garage. Due to the location of the outlet, the spark did not cause a fire. Since that date, every time our HVAC system comes on at home, our lights flash, this did not happen prior to [XXX]. We are contacting an electrician to inspect the outlet and any affect the surge had on our home electrical panel. On January 31, 2025, my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 experienced a failure with its ICCU resulting in the vehicle to lose all power and become unable to be turned on exposing myself and others to conditions where the vehicle could become a serious safety hazard due to its complete lack of power. This occurred despite the application of the NHTSA Hyundai Recall 272 only two weeks prior to this incident which was supposed to prevent this serious safety defect from occurring. The vehicle's 12 V battery was subsequently replaced allowing the vehicle to display a "Check electric vehicle system" warning. The dealership has since confirmed this as the ICCU defect. No warnings or other messages preceded this incident.

Dashboard error message told driver there was an electrical issue and advised us to pull over. Car had to be towed. Currently at the dealer awaiting a replacement. Dealership said it could take "weeks or months" to get a replacement part. Sudden loss of propulsion is a safety risk to other drivers. We were on the highway and could not get to speed. ICCU malfunctions appear to be very common with Hyundai EVs. Hyundai appears to be aware that this is a problem but doesn't seem very interested in solving it.

The ICCU failed while 300 miles from home. I was unable to charge the car with level 2 charging to get home. Luckily level 3 charging still worked. The ICCU breaking can also disrupt propulsion, so I'm lucky it didn't break to that degree while driving. The dealership ultimately replaced my ICCU. There were no warning signs. In fact, the car didn't even throw a code or error. It simply wouldn't charge.

Battery conditioning (heating) is required for fast charging at cold temperatures. The current method of enabling this function takes many steps including going into the EV setting to enable this option (since it automatically turns off when changing some settings in the Hyundai Bluelink App), then opening the navigation screen, looking at a map and scrolling though a long list of charging sites, picking the desired charger then starting the navigation and route to that site. This has to be to done while in route to a specific charger, normally this would be on the freeway 20-40 minutes before arrival at a fast charging station. It is a distraction while driving and is an issue with all Ioniq 5's sold from 2022-2024. Hyundai fixed this problem for the 2025 model year but have not do so on the previous cars at this time. Hyundai needs to add this 1 touch preconditioning option for safety and driver ease of use. I feel it should required on all EVs that offer battery conditioning. I have told them about this several times and not gotten a response and according to posts in various online communities many other have also reported this issue to Hyundai but they have taken no action.

The 2022 ioniq 5 was bought used with 43k MI and within 2k miles of driving in 50-85F climate and 7kwh l2 charging I witnessed the orange check EV light flash while I was driving on the highway. I exited and powrr cycled the car and the EV light remained. The next morning the orange check EV light was gone. I went to the dealership for a diagnostic and they said they could not replicate the error code or had found any history of the error code coming up without proving to me or showing me any substantial evidence that they tested for anything at the Escondido Hyundai dealership in California. I escalated the issue with Hyundai corporate and was assigned a case manager that ultimately gave me the same answer that they could not replicate any codes and that I should take the car back and drive normally. After extensive research I found that the orange check ev light is a more dangerous sign than the red check ev light because it indicates that the ICCU unit is about to fail. Research shows that due to thermal stress the ICCU will inevitably fail after the orange check AV light comes on. Further research shows that Hyundai had officially stated a 1% failure rate for the ICCU unit in all of their EVs built on the e-gmp cars to date but some projections are at 10% failure rate or higher and that Hyundai Kia is downplaying the issue similarly to how they tried to do the same with the Theta 2 GDI engines that they had been sued and were responsible to pay over $300 or so million dollars as well as $24 million to a employee whistleblower a few years ago. I highly suggest that the nhtsa or other organizations that have the power to force Hyundai Kia to do the right thing so that no further lives are at risk from these ICCU units that have flawed designs that have not been fixed,only remedied via software update or replaced with refurbished units at the most with inevitable failure as thermal stress is experienced.

I then received an error on the dash "Stop Vehicle and check power supply". I them drove 4 more miles to work with the hazards on. This is an EV vehicle. This is a recurrent problem with the Ioniq 5 and is all over the internet. For me this is the 2nd electrical failure. The first time the accessory batter failed and the ICCU controller failed and had to be replaced. Now its at the shop for the 2nd time for the same failure. Not sure if its the ICCU again or not. In and of itself not a problem to send it off to fix, The major issue is how it fails. There is no warning, If you are on the highway going 70 mph it goes flat... no propulsion. This gives you no or little power to get to a secure spot. It then is only capable of about 20 mph. This is dangerous as hell. The first time it died completely and wouldn't move. For myself, i was lucky i was on a local road. I was driving. For my wife, who drives this car it would be harrowing. This is a recurring problem with this vehicle. A solution has not been found other than to swap parts. Hyundai need to be put on notice for a permanent fix.

I am filing this complaint regarding Hyundai Motor America's failure to complete a vehicle repair in a timely manner on my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (VIN: [XXX] ), which has been at Hyundai of Leander, an authorized Hyundai service center in Leander, Texas, since September 2025 — more than six months — awaiting a replacement high-voltage battery. (Case No. XXX) I purchased this vehicle in September 2025 from Apple Sport Imports in [XXX] . The vehicle was sent immediately to Hyundai of Leander for an open repair and I never took full delivery. I was informed the replacement battery was initially allocated to a different dealership and a new order could not be placed until approximately January 2026. As of March 2026, Hyundai's own case manager confirmed in writing on March 30, 2026 only that they are working to determine the battery's arrival date with no confirmed completion date provided. Since November 2025, I have made 5 monthly payments of $513.92 totaling $2,569.60 on a vehicle I have never driven, with a sixth payment of $513.92 due in April 2026. I am also flagging a potential records discrepancy for NHTSA's awareness. When I checked my VIN on Hyundai's recall lookup website, Recall 272 — covering an ICCU software update, fuse replacement, and ICCU replacement on 2022-2024 MY IONIQ 5 vehicles — is listed as a Closed Campaign with a completion date of October 24, 2025. My vehicle was physically at Hyundai of Leander awaiting parts on that date and remains there today. I do not know whether this recall is related to the current open repair, but I am flagging the potential discrepancy for investigation. When I raised this with Hyundai of Leander's service department, I received no clear explanation. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai Motor America's recall fulfillment practices and the accuracy of their recall completion records for this vehicle. Component that failed: High-voltage main battery pack assembly and associated electrical architecture. The vehicle and the component are currently located at my home and are available for inspection upon request. Description of Incident & Safety Risk: While attempting to drive the car and when connected to the vehicle to a standard charging infrastructure, a catastrophic internal failure occurred within the high-voltage system (Diagnostic Trouble Code P1AA600). Upon attempting to plug the vehicle in, active electrical arcing and physical sparks emanated from the high-voltage architecture. This structural manufacturing component defect presents an immediate, severe, and active fire and safety hazard to the occupants, the vehicle, and any surrounding property. The vehicle is currently completely un-driveable and unsafe to connect to any power grid. Dealer Confirmation & Inspection: The vehicle was driven to a certified manufacturer dealership service center. A certified dealership technician formally inspected the vehicle, reproduced the fault, and explicitly documented the active electrical arcing and sparking coming from the high-voltage pack in the official service records. The vehicle history was also escalated to the manufacturer's executive consumer affairs team, who acknowledged the intake statement but refused to authorize a remedy or repair. Warning Symptoms: There were no long-term warning lamps or prior symptoms leading up to the structural breakdown. The high-voltage system failure occurred suddenly and catastrophically, immediately triggering a critical malfunction indicator on the dashboard cluster at the time of the failure.

I have had all recall updates on the car including a recent one on 10/13/2025. Turned on the heater on the first cold night in Dallas this fall and got the engine warning light. Checked the ODB and code was P1A90(96). I was able to drive it to the dealer with a 40 mph max speed. The funny thing is my ICCU has already been replaced under warranty once like 16 months ago, so it seems the replacement parts aren't much better than the original. Dealer confirmed it is an ICCU failure and I'm now waiting on the part. Hyundai has NOT fixed this ICCU problem even when they replace with a new ICCU. Someone needs to hold them accountable for finding a real fix.

While the vehicle was parked in a garage and charging overnight, I briefly went to the vehicle to retrieve an item from the back seat. I was barefoot at the time. I opened the driver‑side rear door and reached inside with my right hand while my left hand was near the upper door area where the door seal is located. When my left hand grazed the door frame, it felt unusually sharp. When I touched the area again to determine what was sharp, I received a significant electric shock. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the incident. The presence of electrical current on an exterior door surface poses a safety risk during normal vehicle use.

ICCU failed second time wednesday february 18, 2026. First ICCU failed November 2024 and replaced under warranty. The car went in turtle mode.....20 mph or less. Limped along safely on side of roadway and used sideroads. The dealer says the ICCU and fuse need to be replaced. The dealer wants me to pay for this part, third time is a charm? I don't think I could ever trust this part again. They want to give me the exact same part they gave me when the ICCU failed b4. There were 2 messages: stop vehicle and check power supply ......check electric vehicle system. They were timely and made this failure a bit safer. The dealer inspected the vehicle but not the manufacturer or anyone else. The car is at Balise Hyundai Fairfield CT I BELIEVE 10% OF THESE ICCUs ARE DEFECTIVE.

The ICCU has failed. This component was replaced approximately one year ago as part of a recall, but it has failed again. Since my original submission, my vehicle has been at authorized Hyundai dealerships since July 2025 and remained undiagnosed and unrepaired for over three months. During this time, I received inconsistent and misleading information from both Hyundai corporate and the dealerships regarding the status of the recall repair, as documented via emails, texts, and recorded calls. On 10/31/2025, the dealership informed me that the issue may involve a floor harness/wiring problem and it is out of warranty; however, this appears related to the ICCU safety recall, and Hyundai has not provided a firm timeline for repair. Hyundai’s delay has caused significant inconvenience, as I have been without my vehicle while continuing to make car payments and insurance payments, and arranging temporary transportation. Additionally, Hyundai and the dealerships provided multiple assurances that the vehicle was being diagnosed and repaired, which were later contradicted, reflecting misleading and deceptive practices. I request that NHTSA consider this update as part of my ongoing complaint and investigate Hyundai’s failure to provide timely and adequate recall service, as well as the misinformation surrounding this safety recall.

While charging at a level 2 charger (6 kW) the car stop charging at 61% for no apparent reason. I was unable to restart charging. On November 29 2025 my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 49000 miles was warming up in the driveway. I heard a pop sound from the back seat like a soda can being opened (or a fuse blowing). Immediately afterwards warning lights appeared on the dash saying "Check Electrical System." The vehicle lost power to accelerate and could not be driven effectively. After a few moments, another error saying "Power is Limited" appeared. This could have happened on the roadway which would have been hazardous to myself and other drivers. The car is scheduled to be diagnosed next week by Simmons Rockwell Hyundai in Elmira, NY. These symptoms are similar to the hundreds of other reports of ICCU failures in this car and similar models. On Sept 10, 2025 the car was previously issued software updates to the ICCU software , which were required under NHTSA Recall Number 24V868000. If this problem is proven to be an ICCU failure, the experience with this car is an example of the 2025 software update failing to prevent the ICCU Failure. I request swift action from the NHTSA to compel Hyundai to implement a permanent fix for my vehicle and all other afflicted models in order to make Americas roadways safe again. Until then, everyone should be extra careful when driving behind a Hyundai Ioniq, 5 because it is at risk of dying and coming to a complete stop at any moment. Hyundai is a large corporation and has the resources and technology to fix this, but they have not done so, despite there being more than 300 complaints to the NHTSA about these cars at the time of this writing.

I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and to request a thorough investigation and guidance on next steps. On Jan. 3, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on a snowy day, we parked our car in the driveway of a weekend rental home near Lake Tahoe, CA. The driveway had a slight slope toward the house, and we backed the car down the driveway with the rear of the car facing the house. My husband turned off the car, then all five occupants exited the vehicle, closed the doors, and began unloading items from the trunk. The car began rolling backwards toward us and the house. It only stopped after pinning my husband into a snowbank created by a snowplow. The other three adults and our [XXX] niece narrowly avoided being struck. While pinned behind the vehicle, my husband had to dig out some snow to reach into his pants pocket and retrieve the key fob. I then moved the car forward a few feet to free him. Although he was pinned in the snow, my husband was (thankfully) not seriously injured. After freeing my husband, I put the car in Park and turned it off. In this model, the parking brake engages automatically; there is no separate parking brake button or lever. A few minutes later, without anyone in or near the vehicle, the car again rolled backwards down the driveway into the same snowbank. Tracks in the snow clearly indicate that the wheels rotated and the car rolled; it was not sliding on ice with the brakes applied. In other words, the parking brake and/or Park mechanism failed to hold the vehicle in place in sub freezing, snowy conditions. The temperature at this location and time was in the mid 20s °F. After returning home from our trip, we took the car to our Hyundai service center, which has performed all maintenance since we purchased it in 2022. When coming to a stop on a slight incline, the vehicle will come to a full and complete stop and occasionally begin to roll backwards after half a 2nd without changing brake pedal position. If the brake pedal is not push further down, the vehicle will continue to roll backwards. I have tested this on multiple IONIQ 5 models with the same result (2022 and 2023). This could cause a collision if there is another car behind the problem vehicle. No warning lamps. Both vehicles have done this since new. Nothing is wrong with either of the vehicles according to multiple dealers.

After a loud bang (fuse blown) the car was unable to move just before I was about to turn into an intersection. The ICCU failed for the second time, all warranty repair completed prior to the incident, first failure occurred in 2024. Both failures occurred close to a when the lead acid battery failed and needed replacement. When the car was stopped and started again, I was able to drive the car slowly to the dealership located less then 1/4 mile away. The car behaved as if there was no power steering but the car still jerked the wheel around to try to put me back into the driving lane presumably because I was driving in the emergency lane. Failed component was ICCU Module 36400-1XAA0. Vehicle was unsafe because I was unable to move while about to turn into an intersection. After stopping and starting the car, the was drive-able bit mildly erratic when attempting to move the car to a safe location (out of the left turning lane). Problem was identified, confirmed, and repaired by dealer under warranty for second time. Component and vehicle inspected by dealer. Failed part sent back to manufacturer. This incident occurred without any prior warning or indication by the vehicle. There were no active recalls on the vehicle at the time of the incident.

1) This is the second occurrence of this issue within the past 12 months. While driving, my EV displayed various blinking lights and a “Check EV Connection” message, followed by a “12v Battery Critical” warning. The entire system began shutting down in the middle of the road. I managed to pull over before the car completely shut off. 2) This malfunction posed a significant safety risk to me and others. The rapid deceleration and uncertainty of an imminent shutdown almost caused an accident, either from other vehicles crashing into me or from my inability to stop in time, potentially hitting another car. I have faced this life-threatening situation twice within a year due to the same issue. 3) The problem was confirmed by my dealership less than a year ago, and my car is currently being towed back to the dealership for re-inspection of the same issue. 4) The vehicle and its components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other parties for the current situation. However, the manufacturer issued a recall for this problem last year AFTER my initial report, incident, and repair. They claimed to have fixed the faulty issue or replaced the necessary parts, when my vehicle was repaired less than 12 months ago. Despite this, I am experiencing the same critical problem again. 5) During the incident, my entire panel started blinking with a “Check EV Connection” message, followed by a red warning sign indicating a 12v Battery Critical Failure warning. The system then went black, and the panel continued to blink white and black consistently while parked. The car cannot be started or moved.

Factory installed Michelin Primacy AS tires with acoustic foam lining. All 4 tires had acoustic foam coming loose and wadding up inside the tire, resulting in extreme vibrations (similar to a severely unbalanced tire) approaching and at highway speeds making vehicle difficult to control. Initially had the tires re-balanced in an attempt to fix before the problem was fully understood, but that solution did not last. Ultimately had the tires dismounted and foam pulled out, then rebalanced.

The Ioniq 5 has a known issue with a part called the ICCU. When the part fails, which it seems to inevitably do despite multiple recall repair visits and software upgrades, the car ceases to be driveable. In advance of this moment when your multi ton vehicle turns into a brick you get a short warning saying pull over, but that is not always possible. The car starts loudly beeping and reduces its max speed to 12 mph, which is not great on the freeway. The ICCU is a huge safety problem, a known issue that Hyundai is well aware of, and the part needs to be redesigned and the NTSB needs to force Hyundai to extend greater warranty protections for this event. This just happened to me, the dealership says they have 8 other ioniq 5's in with the same issue and I am number 9 on an ioniq 5 iccu loaner car waiting list while the part is back ordered for at least one month. My car stopped at a stop light and fully blocked an intersection when it bricked as I came off the freeway, was super scary to sort out in the middle of the road and I was very happy that my twin toddlers were not in the back seat, i was not so happy I had to pay to have the vehicle towed and arrange a comedicly complicated way to pickup my kids due to this known issue parts failure.

The ICCU component failed. I lost propulsion while driving and almost got rear ended. The dealership service department confirmed the ICCU issue. The dealership service department has inspected the vehicle. I had a dead 12v a month prior that I had asked the service department to look at and test the ICCU. They did not test the ICCU. The car warned me 30 seconds maybe less before i lost propulsion.

Shift gear was not engaging then i noticed the knob was slightly sticking out so I pushed it back in. The car changed gear then but it happened again a couple days later but this time the knob fell off while i was trying to push it back in. Brought to the dealers for inspection in September within a week after the problem started. Followed up twice now with no update as to when it will be fixed, I was told they will need to order part and that the entire shift gear will need to be replaced. They didn’t seem to be concerned about the safety of driving the vehicle around meantime. My husband used my car for a long trip while i was out of the country and he said the shift gear fell again. If it gets loose the gear does not engage.

I was driving along and got a warning to pull over due to low power. This is the third time this has occurred and is a well--documented failure point for this vehicle. I go in for "repair", things are checked and sometimes software is updated and then within months the problem returns. Very unsafe being stranded on a high speed, two land rural road at night. A severe vibration started suddenly in the steering wheel and persisted between ~55 and 65mph. The first occurrence almost caused a crash on the highway and significant driver input force was needed to control the car. The dealer found that quieting foam glued inside the tire had come loose and caused an unbalance. They started they had seen this several times now on these cars.

Interior driver's side door handle broke off. The driver cannot open the door without lowering the window (electrically operated) and reaching outside to pull the exterior door handle. The car must remain of to do this (if off, the window cannot be lowered). I deem this to be extremely dangerous in the event of an accident when the car cannot be started; the driver is stuck in the car.

Over the two years I have owned this vehicle I have had to replace the windshield three times. I am on my fourth windshield and have three chips/crack already. I have never experience crack/chips like this or at this frequency. I am at a point where I am concerned the getting my windshield replace will cause my insurance to increase because the frequency and expense. Because of have a heads up display the windshield cost up to $1,500 to replace and calibrate. I drive my vehicle on paved roads and the highway only. There are many reports online for similar issues.

Hyundai Ioniq EV's have a continuing issue with a component called that "ICCU". The ICCU and high voltage fuse failed even after two recalls meant to monitor that problem and update the software. Luckily, mine failed in my driveway at home which did not put me in immediate risk. However, many people have this part fail while driving on roads and highways with zero warning. There have been two ICCU-related recalls that my car has had. When I started my vehicle I heard a "pop" and then the dashboard said "Check vehicle electrical system" and then shows the "limp mode" icon allowing to drive the vehicle at a slow speed to safety.

While driving on the highway in foggy conditions, the smart cruise control system and forward safety system suddenly shut off while I was going 70 miles an hour. This almost resulted in a car rear ending me due to the sudden deceleration. I am filing this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle experienced a sudden failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which caused the car to completely shut down and lose power while in motion. My family member, who was driving at the time, stated that the car lost power and shut off without warning on the road, creating an extremely dangerous situation. Thankfully, they were able to pull over without incident, but this type of malfunction could easily result in a collision, injury, or worse. I later discovered that this issue is part of a widespread ICCU failure affecting Hyundai Ioniq 5 and other Hyundai/Kia EVs. My vehicle has been at the dealership for over a month, and Hyundai has informed me that the part required to repair the vehicle is backordered for 2–3 months, leaving me without my primary mode of transportation. This issue is not only a reliability concern but a serious safety hazard that warrants immediate investigation and intervention. A vehicle that completely loses power while driving is unacceptable, especially for a relatively new vehicle under warranty. I urge the NHTSA to investigate the ICCU failures in Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and determine whether a broader mandatory recall is needed due to the loss of motive power and serious safety risk. Many owners are affected, and delays in repair parts are putting consumers in unsafe situations.

On the morning of February 3rd, 2025, while driving, I heard a pop. A few seconds later, as I approached an intersection, a yellow warning appeared that instructed me to "Check the Electric Vehicle System". It minimized to a small caution light. I attempted to continue driving, pulling through the intersection; however, the vehicle had an abrupt loss of power; I was unable to proceed over 20-25 mph. In total no more than 2-3 mins passed from hearing the pop to loss of power. I pulled into a neighborhood, stopped the car, and consulted the owner's manual for direction on the warning light. While parked, and an estimated 8-10 minutes after hearing the first pop, I received a second warning, this time in red. It said "Turn power off immediately. Check power supply." I turned car off/contacted roadside, as advised in my manual, for a tow. After review at the dealership, I was originally told I needed a new 12V that it had died while I was driving. I authorized the replacement, though I also indicated to the service department that if that CAN happen, it really does not make sense AND there should be a different warning indicator for a failed 12v that could be replaced roadside versus instructing for a tow.However, after replacing my 12v the service advisor indicated that the car pulled codes and that the ICCU and its fuse seemed to have failed, which likely caused the damage to the 12v battery. After a few days of testing, my car was cleared for replacement of the failed ICCU by Hyundai's techline on February 10th. The dealer then provided a vehicle for my use while I await repairs. I was told a part could arrive the 18th or the 25th and the repair could take 3-4 days once the parts are received. It is still in shop with no updates. On 2/13/25 I filed a complaint to Hyundai; I have not received a response to date. All recalls for these issues had been performed on my vehicle in November 2024; we can no longer, in good conscience, use this vehicle. It is unsafe.

The contact stated that while exiting the vehicle, the vehicle started to roll backward. The contact was able to jump back into the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was still in park(P); however, when the brake pedal was released, the vehicle started rolling away again. The contact had not engaged the parking brake. The contact stated that the vehicle was turned off and restarted and was able to shift into park(P) and the vehicle remained stationary. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V324000 (Parking Brake); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
