While traveling at 55mph yesterday, I experienced a full engine failure which shut the car off fully while traveling on a single lane double yellow road. I was able to coast to a secure location. The car will not start or go into neutral. There were no warning lights that occurred at any time prior to the failure. This all occurred while on vacation 2 hours away. I previously went to the dealership for the recommended "fix" for the recall but that obviously did not solve the problem. This was an extremely unsafe situation for me and my family. I also encountered towing costs and significant loss of time. In addition, the car is at a dealership over 2 hours from my home. Chevrolet should be held accountable well beyond a recall notice which didnt solve the problem.

Engine failure while driving to [XXX] from [XXX] . Mobile mechanic indicated a likely spun bearing. Less than 24,000 miles. Was stranded in [XXX] and delivered vehicle to local Chevrolet dealership same day as incident. It’s been over a month with no repair eta. Incurred significant travel and accommodation costs, with receipts available, due to the disruption. GM had thus far refused to confirm any reimbursement of expenses. NHTSA #11737688

On April 10th, while traveling approximately 7 hours from home on a very busy highway in [XXX] , my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (6.2L engine) suffered a complete and catastrophic engine failure, requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle had to be towed and I was left stranded with no transportation. Prior to this failure, I had brought the vehicle to an authorized GM dealership for a recall inspection specifically related to the 6.2L engine on September 9, 2025 with 36,162 miles. The dealership technician inspected the vehicle and informed me that my engine was not defective and cleared it. Shortly after that inspection, the engine suffered a total failure at 46,6xx miles on the vehicle. I am currently leasing this vehicle at approximately $1,100 per month and have been without the vehicle for an extended period while it sits awaiting repair. GM customer care has been contracted and has indicated they cannot move forward with a buyback claim because the BBB is not taking my case because the vehicle is older then 2 years old which I know is a false legal claim. This is a serious safety concern, a catastrophic engine failure at highway speed poses significant risk to vehicle occupants and others on the road which appears consistent with other reported failures. I am aware that NHTSA has opened Recall Query RQ26001 investigating the adequacy of GM's remedy under recall 25V-274. My experience is consistent with the 36+ complaints that triggered this investigation, engine failure occurring after an authorized dealer performed the recall inspection and cleared the vehicle. I am requesting this complaint be added to the RQ26001 investigation file. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

As I was driving down the tollway in Dallas going 75 miles an hour, my engine completely shut down and went into neutral in rush hour traffic. I had to slowly get over from being in the left lane as my car was slowing and slowing. I was able to get over on the side of the tollway as cars zoomed past me. By the grace of God, I didn't get hit. Once it was towed, the service department confirmed that it is my engine that shut down and the entire engine needs to be replaced. Now the problem is they cannot find an engine or parts to fix it. No warning came on at all before this happened. Very dangerous situation.

NHTSA #11732835

Passed a truck in 2023 Chevy Tahoe on a two lane highway and the Tahoe would not accelerate. It switched into neutral and would not run. This was a major safety issue. There was a semi truck behind me that could have run over me and my family. Luckily there was wide open area next to the road that I coast into. Truck was towed to a dealership out of state while we were on vacation.

NHTSA #11729312

My wife just picked up our 4 year old from daycare. She just merged onto I-81N and the vehicle shut off on her at highway speed during rush hour! A message on the dashboard said "Please restart vehicle". She managed to pull the Tahoe off onto the shoulder, but couldn't get it started. She remained in the vehicle with my daughter and called 911 to request a state police vehicle park behind her so that she wouldn't be hit by any passing traffic. I (her husband) met her on the side of the highway and we tried starting it with a battery booster pack to no avail. We called a tow truck and had the car towed to the dealership that we purchased the vehicle from. They confirmed that the motor was indeed locked up and needs to be replaced. This vehicle already underwent the 6.2L recall test and "PASSED". It was running the 'remedy' 0W-40 oil. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

NHTSA #11729123

We were driving down the highway at around 77 miles per hour. I noticed that the vehicle chimed as though I initially got into it and needed to start the engine. I saw the dashboard asking me to start the engine. I attempted to start it while we were coasting to a stop, but it wouldn't start. I was able to barely get out of the lane of travel and avoid a collision. I tried to turn off the vehicle and turn it back on but it would not start. It would not even turn over. The vehicle eventually cannibalized the battery because it would never shut off.

NHTSA #11729833

1) The engine failed and lost propulsion while driving. It is currently at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle new, so it may be available for inspection upon request. 2) My safety was put at risk because the vehicle lost propulsion while driving. This is a dangerous situation in general. In my case I was able to pull over safely and have it towed to the dealership. 3) The problem is that the engine failed. This can be confirmed by the dealership. 4) This 6.2L engine was part of the N252494001 recall for specifically the issue of engine failure and loss of propulsion, so it had been inspected by the dealership recently. I brought the vehicle into the dealership for this recall several months ago. Per the recall, they told me that the engine would need to be replaced if it didn't pass the inspection. They performed a Pico test, informed me that it passed the test, and changed the oil to 0W-40. It has not been inspected by GM, the police, insurance representatives or others at this time. 5) There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

The vehicle motor goes out with no indication that anything’s going to happen. It does this a different stages of miles. Mine happened when I was passing someone on the high way. It just shut off

NHTSA #11723473

Our vehicle passed their inspection required test for the engine recall and then at an intersection just died with absolutely no warning and wouldn’t even start again. Warning light for low engine oil came on. We were stuck and couldn’t even put the vehicle in neutral to be towed out of the intersection. Had to call a flat bed tow truck to load it and take to dealership where it was confirmed the engine failed!!! Police did show up at the scene to facilitate traffic and the loading of th vehicle

NHTSA #11721855

I purchased a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe on December 17, 2025. On January 17, 2026, with approximately 17,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure while I was driving. The engine seized without warning, causing a complete loss of power and leaving me stranded on the side of the road. At the time of the incident, my newborn child was in the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or indicators before the failure. After the incident, I learned that there was a known recall or service update related to engine oil viscosity for this model year. This information was never disclosed to me at the time of purchase, and no recall documentation or corrective service was provided prior to delivery. I have since been informed that engine replacement will take over 30 days due to parts availability and that no loaner or rental vehicle is available during repairs. Given the catastrophic failure shortly after purchase, the undisclosed recall, extended repair time, and safety implications, I no longer feel the vehicle is safe or reliable.

Engine failure resulting in new engine.

NHTSA #11727647

On December 30, 2025, I was driving the Tahoe at a highway speed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I experienced two engine shut-offs. I was able to get the Tahoe to the Chevrolet dealer in Midwest City, OK. Advisor Tim took care of the vehicle and said that they "couldn't replicate the problem." He did mention he had to add engine oil because it was a quart low. We noted that we are currently conducting an oil consumption test with a Chevrolet dealer in Elk Grove, Illinois. He said we had a strong case for it, but the Tahoe was safe for traveling back home to Illinois. The following days, the Tahoe performed well without any issues. On January 3, 2026, we left Spencer, OK, and headed back home to Illinois. Without any warning, while driving at highway speed, the engine shut off completely and would not restart. The failure occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on a pitch-black expressway about 40 miles from Rolla, Missouri. I was traveling with my wife and two children. We were stranded on the highway shoulder. A state trooper was dispatched for safety. The Tahoe required a tow over an hour later, and we had to take a Lyft to a hotel. Logistics at that time in that location were complicated. Our family was terrified for our safety. Today is Sunday, and the nearest dealer is closed. We will have it dropped off tomorrow, January 5th, and go from there. We do not know how we are going to get back to Illinois. We have work and my son has school. The vehicle is currently disabled and under manufacturer warranty. This was a serious safety incident involving loss of engine power at high speed.

I dont believe the correct fix is changing Oil Viscocity

NHTSA #11697122

The idler pulley was squealing. Dealership I took it to said this was the 3rd one they've had to replace in the last few days.

NHTSA #11696320

I bought this 2023 Chevy Tahoe rst brand new from the dealer and about a few months of owning it I noticed that the truck was needing oil before the next oil change. It’s as if it was consuming itself. This continues for month until last week when the truck died on me. I was able to jump start and everything worked fine for a day. The next day things got worse. I was on the highway and truck started shaking and giving off all kinds of codes. I took it to dealer and they said I needed a new battery but that there was also an engine problem. I bought a new battery and none of the messages on dash resolved like I was told. The truck is u drivable motor is knocking and was even making loud popping sounds. Of course my truck just hit 64,000 miles so gm is saying I’m out of warranty. I should not be having these types of issues on an almost brand new truck that I’ve owned 2 years. Engine light is flashing and dealer said this means major issue.

NHTSA #11696999

on [XXX] we bought our 2023 Tahoe High Country from Jeff Gordon Cheverolet in Wilmington NC. In April 2025 a recall was announced on our car for engine failure. In June of 2025 we received a letter stating that a fix for the recall was to have an inspection done. If passed, then an oil change and new cap would be done. This was completed. on [XXX], I was on the highway accelerating to get up the speed, when I heard a loud pop noise. Then i heard loud knocking coming from my engine, the check engine light came on with the traction light as well. The car then had sluggish acceleration and would not accelerate but would have high than normal RPMS and rev when trying to accelerate. I knew then that I had engine failure. I was able to get the car to a safe place and called the dealership right away. They got it towed to Marine Chevy since it was closer. The next day they did an inspection on the vehicle and said the camshaft and lifters were broken and had to be replaced. I said I would need a new engine replaced due to the damage and recall. I was told it would not be under recall because it was the top and not bottom. They said the GM refused the new engine but would not tell me if it was the General Manager or General Motors that refused. I called and texted multiple times asking for pictures. They refused to send me any until 9/9 after multiple attempts. They only sent me one of the rods and rocker arms showing a rod bent and stated it was the lifters. still no pictures of the camshaft broke or lifters. These problems already have multiple class action lawsuits out for this particular engine failure. I was told the recall would still be on the engine even after the repair, I can still have engine failure. I refuse to pay the money for this car to continue to be in the shop due to a bad engine that was put in these models. I also have a case open with General Motors for replacing the engine as well and they are refusing to help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When i asked Kunez Lake Geneva, Wi. When the engine recall would be taken care of. I was told that GMC has to order the recall first. Then when asking about the process of inspecting. They informed me they would listen to the motor and decide if it was effected or not. I paid $82k for this vehicle. I find that listening to the motor isnt a thorough way of inspection. After they deem the motor ok. There going to put higher viscosity oil & an oil cap. What if something happens in the future. Is my familys life safety not important? Summary General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. Safety Risk If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the engine. Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert.

Sudden engine failure while driving at high speeds - was not aware of any recall.

NHTSA #11676762

My 23 Chevy Tahoe was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure on 04/02/2025, and per recall N252494000 a case for engine replacement. That replacement was completed and the case was closed on 06/02/2025. Since that time the new, replacement engine has been consuming oil at a high rate, is running with intermittent lag and I am waiting for a diagnostics appt with Chevy.

NHTSA #11712438

My vehicle’s engine has been recalled since June. The dealer refused to inspect because there is no remedy to replace the engine. I have complained since I purchased the vehicle of noises that I’ve heard. I am hearing more noises, and I am increasingly getting more scared every day to drive my vehicle. I will not put myself nor my family in harms way I can get into an accident. I am afraid to drive the vehicle. I am not taking any chances of hurting anyone else or my family or potentially have a fatal accident. two months of driving around scared I will not drive my truck anymore. I am beyond upset that there is no remedy for this and that it is not taken seriously. Something needs to be done regarding my situation and all others. The vehicle was sold, most likely knowing that this was a problem. GM needs to make good on this problem before people get killed. I would like them to buy back my vehicle, I am sure I qualify for a full re-purchase. I called GM. They will get back to me in five business days. I cannot emphasize how afraid I am to drive my vehicle and I paid $110,000 for this vehicle.

NHTSA #11677741

I took my car into the Fowler Chevrolet (AKA Century Chevrolet) Dealership in Broomfield, Colorado to get the engine recall addressed for my 2023 Chevy Tahoe-RST. I was told GM doesn't have a solution and has not sent any parts to the dealerships to deal with the recall. This is a significant safety issue/concern since I drive my [XXX] daughter every day in this vehicle. How is an OEM like GM allowed to get away with not having an immediate fix available to such a significant safety issue where an engine just fails and could fail without any warning lights on a highway. Extremely dangerous and nerve racking to drive this vehicle knowing there is this safety recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

2023 Tahoe with 6.2L gas engine at 29k miles suffered a complete engine failure on a major road at 60mph with no prior warning. We were lucky to be able to get it out of the road safely but it stranded my family. It’s currently at GM dealer waiting for an engine replacement.

NHTSA #11655667

We were driving on a busy interstate in Knoxville, TN on a Sunday. We were 2 hours from home and my 2023 Tahoe basically went into limp mode while I was in the fast lane and the check engine light came on. No warning in advance. The speed reduced, which backed traffic up, and put me and my 4 children in danger. We finally got off the interstate and the vehicle had to be towed in to the nearest dealership. I had a friend drive us to enterprise where they put us in a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. On Monday, I received a call from the dealership stating they had good and bad news. The good news was the repair is covered by warranty but the bad news was it will be 2-3 months before they can get the part. The part is on back order and several people are waiting ahead of me. The said part is a valve body for the engine/transmission. The dealership also informed me that warranty will not cover a non-GM vehicle and that they will only pay for a rental up to 44.00/day. It’s not my fault the part is on back order, nor that enterprise gave me a non-GM vehicle. Also, I have a family of 6, which is why I have a Tahoe and I cannot be put in a small sedan. My children play sports, we have upcoming vacation, and quite frankly, I didn't pay 90,000.00 for a vehicle to be placed in a vehicle that I don’t feel is safe for my family. If I had wanted a sedan, I would have bought one. GM should take better care of their customers, especially when something is like this is not the customers fault!!! I have contacted GM and have been told I will be called back by a supervisor each time I talk to someone. This is unacceptable!!

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then determined that the sound was the lifters tapping. The contact was informed that all 16 lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer, who also diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was with the lifters, and informed the previous dealer might not have been repaired the vehicle properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 28,000.

Started having an issue a few weeks ago with the vehicle shutting off while driving for no reason without warning causing a very serious safety concern. This issue seemed to stop until one Saturday when i started the vehicle i noticed a small tick. This ticking sound continued to grow. The vehicle then shut off again with warning while driving. 7 days had gone by since the first episode. When I started the vehicle again there was a very pronounce rapping and it sounded like parts inside the motor were coming apart. When I arrived home i called Onstar. They did a diagnostic twice and said the motor was not showing any codes and running perfect. I had it towed from my house and upon inspection the motor is blown with 10,000 miles

Vehicle also wouldn't shift into neutral requiring it to be dragged onto flatbed. Chevy dealer states new engines are on backorder with no expected repair date.

Engine connecting rods and crankshaft have manufacture defects that could cause engine failure resulting in a crash. Driving in a large city with an infant and toddler makes the possibility of sudden engine failure extremely dangerous. It puts everyone in the vehicle at risk but especially the children at a huge safety risk. Engine makes odd sound but multiple Chevy dealerships say they won't look at it because they don't have an answer from GM.

At approximately 19.000 miles when the car sits for an extended period of time, at the first start up, blue smoke comes from the exhaust tail pipe. Brought it to the dealer and they said that, that was normal. With the issues they are having with the engines, I wanted this to be noted, because blue smoke is indicative of either bad piston rings or bad valve seals. This should not be happening on a vehicle with 19,000 miles and have oil changes at every 3000 miles.

Our engine (v8 6.2 liter) failed with out warning while my wife was driving. She said that while driving all of a sudden the dash started flashing telling her to restart the engine. The car just started shutting down. She had to immediately pull off into the median and barely made it out of the fast lane when the car stopped. She was so close to the fast lane that there wasn’t enough room for a person to stand without being hit. We had our Tahoe towed to the closest dealer thinking maybe it was an alternator. The dealer confirmed it was a failed engine and that our vehicle is the third vehicle on their lot with the same failed engine. All of the failed engine vehicles have right at 40 k miles plus or minus 1k miles. The only problem that we had noticed before the failure, happened that morning when I took the Tahoe to fuel up for my wife prior to her leaving. I noticed the engine cranked slow for a second before it started. I thought maybe the battery is just getting weak and that as she drove it that day, it would charge the battery. The exact failure as I understand it from the technician is “ the 5th cylinder failed in the lower half of the engine.” Apparently this is failing because the bearings weren’t properly seated during manufacturing.

On Sunday January 12, I was driving the vehicle on the highway with my cruise control on. The engine started missing the speed dropped a bit as the cruise control would not hold the speed. A mile or so later the vehicle engine started knocking with a metallic sound. I pulled over at the next exit and stopped at a store to look at the engine. There was nothing loose and a deep metallic knocking coming from the engine block, so I shut off the vehicle and called OnStar. At no time did any warning lights or other indicators come on. The gauges were normal. They/OnStar indicated I should not drive the vehicle, and they will tow to nearest Chevy Dealer for service and give me a $50 credit to take a Lyft to local airport to get a rental car. I was almost 4 hours away from home as I was travelling. After a week of turmoil with the local dealership I was told the vehicle needs a new engine. There is no ETA on the new engine as GM has to build it and has parts shortages. This was 5 weeks ago. I have been driving a rental since and there is still no indicate from the dealership about what happened or why. The vehicle is a 2023 and still under warranty but I am having to pay for the rental and request reimbursement which hasn't happened to date. There is very little information available, and I am in no man's land without a vehicle, so I have an open ended rental situation.

While sitting at an intersection of a busy 4 lane road the engine stoped without warning and could not be restarted. Due to a poor design by GM, the Tahoe has no ability to be put in neutral when the engine isn’t running. We were stuck at a busy intersection an almost hit multiple times, until a tow truck could come since it cannot be put in neutral and pushed. Dealer inspected engine and found it had been burning oil. The car never gave any warning lights that it was low on oil or that there were any engine issues. They did an oil change and gave the car back. The car was running, but within less than 5 miles of driving it it started to shake and make horrible noises. At this point, I was driving on the interstate. I was able to limp the vehicle back to the dealer. It was diagnosed by a dealer with spun engine bearing. I was told they were very close to seizing up and I would’ve been stranded on the interstate with no shoulder. This could’ve caused a major issue as I was on a busy interstate and the vehicle would’ve locked up. There was no shoulder at this point due to construction. Through both of these issues the vehicle never gave any dashboard warning lights. There are two major design flaws. The engine has an issue with its bearings. Also, there needs to be a way to put the vehicle into neutral while the engine is not running. It is not safe to not be able to put these vehicles into neutral.

Vehicle broke down on 12/1/2024. Had it towed to the nearest dealership. Dealership claimed that gasoline was pumped into the tank. We knew that wasn't the case. I called the store we last used for fuel and spoke to the manager. She was able to pull my wife up on surveillance and verified that she pumped diesel fuel from a "diesel fuel only" pump on 11/21/24. We also verified that the fuel in the holding tank at the store was actual diesel fuel. My wife purchased 23.45 gallons of diesel fuel. The tank size on this Tahoe is a 24 gallon tank. We had burned half of this fuel before the vehicle broke down. We also verified that no one else had complained about the fuel from the store. Dealership said it needed a new engine. We had it towed to another dealership for a second opinion, but they couldn't verify what happened because the 1st dealership had cleaned out the fuel system. I called GM but they won't help because they are going off what the 1st dealership claimed. Vehicle is still under power train warranty, but they won't fix it. This vehicle left us stranded on the side of the road. Insurance was called and a representative did go and look at the Tahoe. He called back and said that the issue does not fall within our policy.

Transmission issue. Vehicle has the Duramax Diesel with 10-speed transmission. I am aware of issues with earlier year/s transmissions. I have experienced shuddering, jerking, a SINGLE momentary rear axle lockup. Jerky engagement from drive to reverse and or back. Reduced Acceleration warning on display. Check engine light comes and goes. Waiting for dealer to further inspect, drain fluid, etc. It appears from the VIN check that this vehicle had some metal work/paint prior to delivery to selling dealer, paint does not match. The transmission issue at 15,000 miles is just plain scary and not what one expects. That this vehicle sold as a 2023 has same issues as earlier model years makes me wonder if this is in fact a late 2022 model with the known defective transmission valve body? Any help appreciated.

NHTSA #11672560

My 2023 Tahoe with 76,000 miles went into limp mode and activated an engine light. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and had the code P0747 which is pressure control solenoid A is stuck on. The dealership technician is recommending a valve body replacement to repair this problem. This is a known problem by General Motors and has extended it to the 2022 models only. This is a safety concern that is causing rough irregular shifting, and a engine light to occur.

NHTSA #11662302

I noticed the gears of my Tahoe grinding when I would let off of the gas pedal. Eventually my check engine line came on. I brought it to my Chevy dealership. Upon inspection, I was told that my transmission valve body was bad and that I needed a new one. I was then told that my truck was ok to drive. I drove it for roughly another month until the check engine light came on again, and I heard the same sounds (I was able to catch it on video). This time, my truck would not want to accelerate past about 1.5 RPMs. I brought it back to the Chevy dealership which is where my truck is today. In hindsight, I believe I should not have been allowed to continue to drive my truck with a bad transmission part.

Our 2023 3L diesel Tahoe had 63,000 miles on it and went into limp mode (CEL on) in late April 2025. We took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the valve body as the problem. We continued to drive it (as they mentioned it would be months before a replacement part would be in) while I did some research and discovered the magnitude of the problem. Just google it! Meanwhile, the rear wheels locked up on me after I had picked up our two children from daycare. It felt like we had a log chain hooked to our hitch that snapped us back - really hard! Felt like we had been rear-ended. This could have easily caused us to get in an accident, or worse, but thankfully we were not in heavy traffic. Our dealership was able to provide us a loaner truck. Approx. 50 days later, we were informed that we were approved for a new transmission - which was also on backorder! Almost 80 days later, our new transmission has arrived and been installed. We are very disappointed with how GM has handled the issue. We were lucky our dealer provided a loaner, as many have not. There are after-market providers who clearly state the upgrades they've made to the valves bodies, and while GM says they've upgraded the ones they make now, they won't share any details. I'm aware of this same limp mode/rear wheel lock up happening multiple times (on the same vehicle) to people in very low-mileage vehicles (less than 1000 miles). This isn't a small problem, and GM knows it. We will see how far we get with this "new" transmission, but as you could guess, I don't have high hopes! I just pray that no one gets killed.

vehicle shutters when downshifting/slowing. Most commonly at cruising speeds between 40 and 50 mph, but does occur at lower speeds as well. Vehicle can be felt vibrating/shaking consistently every time it is driven. Was taken into a dealership, was not adequately diagnosed as it was only test driven 1 mile per the paperwork and they could not duplicate the issue and was told they were "in the business of making money to repair vehicles" and this was a warranty repair. Engine stopped while driving 70 mph down the highway and the car shifted into neutral. Had to cost to side of the road. Took car into dealership and even though the car was certified safe drive and the engine had no issues 5 months ago, I was told the engine was now locking up. The engine failed despite using the higher viscosity oil that chevy recommended. These greedy cunts at chevy placed me and my family's lives in danger to save a buck; they knew that the engines would fail and instead of replacing the engines, they put thicker oil in the cars to hopefully get the cars past warranty.

2nd Powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6.2L engine. The first being the Camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 MPH with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no GM rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission valve body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

NHTSA #11653926

Traveling down the highway at 65 MPH the engine/transmission started bucking and you could hear the rear wheel lock up. The vehicle then would not shift and reduced the speed to 55MPH. Check engine light came on. Chevrolet is telling me the valve body needs to be replaced but keep driving it because it is on national backorder. After doing some research GM is hiding the issue and keeps installing faulty valve bodies. The GM fix is that they programmed the transmission to reduce speed when it notices excessive wear. GM is not standing behind the issue as it has been like pulling teeth to get a loaner vehicle.

I was driving my 2023 Tahoe on the interstate, in the far left lane. I had my wife and 2 kids in the car. Suddenly I noticed the air turned off and the dashboard screen went blank. I noticed that the car was now in neutral and the accelerator was not providing any response. I put on my hazards and started to merge across 7 lanes of highway without using brakes because we were going up a hill. We lost momentum in the second to last lane and could not move. The Tahoe then switched to park and the electrical system kept shutting off and rebooting. This also resulted in the hazard lights turning off for brief moments in time, so it was not effectively alerting other travelers of our dysfunction. (This repeated for the next 30 minutes until the battery died.) During that 30 minutes we were stuck in the lane with traffic buzzing around both sides of us honking and people screaming at us. My wife and 2 young children were upset and crying from the commotion. Poluce and emergency response team arrived, flagged traffic and drug the vehicle off the road.car was stuck in Park, with no ability to move to neutral. So tire rubber was smeared across the last 2 lanes and into the right shoulder. Later a tow truck arrived and hauled to dealership. The car had ~11,000 miles and bought the vehicle 2 months ago. This should not happen with new cars.

2023 Tahoe Z71 had recently been put in the shop, and evaluated for engine failure recall. Dealership/GM deemed it failed test for replacement, we were given 0W40 oil and sent back out, this last weekend we had catastrophic engine failure while operating at 50+MPH.

NHTSA #11733261

As the owner of a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, I am currently experiencing persistent issues with the instrument cluster going dark and a severely malfunctioning GM 6.2L L87 engine. In November of the previous year, I encountered a sudden and alarming loss of engine power while traveling on a multilane highway at a speed of 70 mph. I successfully maneuvered the vehicle to a narrow shoulder, where I remained, accompanied by a Highway Patrol officer, for over three hours until a tow truck arrived. The GM certified dealership informed me that the engine was seized. The mechanics were unable to start or manually turn the engine. Upon removal of the engine’s oil pan, they found metal fragments in the oil. After having undergone an engine recall “fix” three months earlier, which included an inspection and oil service change to a more viscous 0W - 40, a new oil filter, and a new filler cap; in November, my engine failed and was replaced with a new 6.2L L87 engine. Initially, I was pleased with the repair, but I have since lost confidence that my car is safe after the new engine began exhibiting symptoms of a pending failure. The Tahoe hesitates on acceleration when merging with highway traffic, the engine dies when decelerating, the check engine light flashes at highway speeds, and the instrument cluster turns off at random. The vehicle that has been outfitted with a brand new engine is currently at the Chevrolet dealership; however, just like in August of 2025 during the Recall inspection, the mechanics there were unable to find any problems with their work or the new engine. They simply erased the stored P0300 engine diagnostics codes and ignored my evidence video, which showed the check engine light blinking at highway speeds. Despite the repair attempts, the issues have not been resolved, and the vehicle continues to pose a safety hazard.

NHTSA #11712732

The engine in my vehicle has experiences major failures in valve flap adjusters, multiple valve failures, valve cover issues, and over consumption of oil by over a quarter in a week and a half of average driving. My safety was put at risk because the engine failure resulted in traction control malfunctions while going 70 mph up hill on a major interstate. This led to extreme shaking which did not stop until slowing down to below 15 mph. Luckily I was a mile from an exit and was able to coast off the road quickly; it was decent enough weather, and I was less than 5 miles from my destination so I could creep between 15-30 mph to not exacerbate traction control alarms. That slow mph did back up traffic behind me. As far as I am aware the problem was likely reproduced by the dealership service tech, which led to their recommendation to replace the whole engine. They do not consider it to be covered by any warranty anymore. The engine may be in their possession still, but I am unsure. There were zero warning lights/prompts from the vehicle that anything was going wrong prior to the shaking and loss of traction control at high speed. The dealer service team suggested that my high miles led to the engine failure. I do highway driving with it and have followed all manufacturer recommendations for oil changes, and even more frequent changes with OEM oil since about 80k miles. I do not think this engine should have failed at this amount of mileage. I made note of oil consumption around 95k miles and measured oil loss regularly. It was a little less than a quart every 2K to 3k miles which manufacturer states is within spec so I would top off oil. A year ago it had a TCM wire replaced after burning in half. 3 weeks ago I also had to replace the entire turbo. The wire rendered my car unable to go in gear. The turbo failure put me into limp mode. I think the turbo failure was a sign of a deeper issue that went undiagnosed.

Following a GM-initiated over-the-air (OTA) software update on May 18, 2026, my vehicle's windshield wipers became permanently inoperable — stuck in the "on" position with no ability to turn them off. This is not a gradual mechanical failure or wear-and-tear issue. The malfunction began immediately and directly as a result of a software update pushed by General Motors. Because the wipers cannot be controlled, I have been forced to remove the wiper fuse to make the vehicle driveable. This means I am currently operating a vehicle without functional windshield wipers — a federally mandated safety system. I want to be clear: this unsafe condition was caused entirely by a GM software update, not by any action or negligence on my part.

NHTSA #11744525

For the third time, my windshield wipers quit working in the middle of a rain/snow storm. Have taken the vehicle into GM service under warranty twice, the first time they updated the software but that repair only lasted a few months. Second time they replaced the windshield sensor, that lasted a few months. Now today, driving home in the snow my wipers quit working altogether. The sprayer worked, the rear wiper on the same handle works, but nothing else I could do gets the wipers to work. This is a big safety concern as it has happened all while driving in I climate weather.

NHTSA #11710992

While driving in a rainstorm on a highway at 70mph, the windshield wipers quit working and would not restart. This has happened on multiple occasions and the dealer could not recreate the issue. Visibility was virtually zero, creating a very unsafe situation. The condition corrected itself after multiple ignition cycles and several minutes being pulled over on the side of the highway.

I purchased a brand-new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. One of the key reasons for choosing this vehicle was its built-in safety and connectivity features, including the OnStar system. I also pay more than $50/month for an OnStar subscription, trusting that the service would provide essential safety functionality. Recently, the OnStar system in my vehicle stopped working. I received no warning, no service bulletin, and no notice from GM or OnStar of thhe failure or that this was a known issue. Upon diagnosis, I was informed that the OnStar module had failed and would need to be replaced—at a cost of $822 out of pocket. OnStar is a core safety feature that GM actively promotes as part of the vehicle’s value and security. For such a critical system to fail in a vehicle that is barely two years old is unacceptable. I believe this constitutes a product defect that GM/OnStar should be held accountable for, especially since multiple consumers are reporting similar issues on public forums. Most of all I had no indication in the vehicle of the failure; there was no check engine or issue light indicating a failure. When I called onstar the only explanation I got was that I should have noticed that the onstar light was out. That’s not sufficient for a safety item you expect to work like the breaks.

As I went to drive away, I stepped on the brake and the car did not immediately stop…the brakes failed and came to a rolling stop. At that moment all types of warning and lights lit up the dashboard. I placed the car in park exactly where it was in the driveway and left it. I also tried to select the Ebrake and it would not engage. I called the dealer first thing the next morning as that had been closed at the time it happened. I was told to bring it in and not to drive it so nobody in my car or else would be at risk. The car was towed at my expense to the dealer. When I got in touch with the dealer that afternoon to get a status. They advised the believe the BCM needed to be updated because it seem to not be communicating properly but wanted to keep it over night to retest it before they sent me home with it. Going to point out several things…thankfully I had not left my house, as I live on a mountain and should that have happened while descending it could have been catastrophic. No warning or anything that the brakes would fail! According to records it shows the did a recall update back in Feb 2025 regarding the BCM- however, how are we sure it truly was fixed or was defective. When I started my car at home, all of the dash warning lights came on, one after another. I put the car in reverse and started backing out of my driveway. I tried to stop but there were NO BRAKES! I slowly pulled back into my driveway and turned the car off. I had to take off work that day because I didn't dare to drive the car. The next day I started the car up and the check engine light was on. Luckily, I had brakes and I could go to work. Now, a day later, my engine light is not on. I made an appointment at the dealership. They can't get me in until mid February so I'm stuck with this problem, not knowing if the brakes are going to fail while driving. Oddly enough, when talking to a co-worker who has a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban, she recently had the same exact problem with her car. She has an appointment scheduled as well. I also read a complaint on this website that had identical problems. This car only has 8500 miles on it. It's still new! Someone is going to be killed or hurt very badly if this ever happens while driving. Please look into this.

I am submitting this complaint to report a potential vehicle safety defect involving the factory-installed running boards on a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The running boards become extremely slippery during light snow or minimal winter precipitation, creating a significant risk of slipping while entering or exiting the vehicle. This occurs during normal use and does not require heavy snow or ice. I have experienced multiple near-falls despite stepping carefully, and the condition is repeatable. Given that the Chevrolet Tahoe is commonly used as a family vehicle and may be accessed by children, elderly individuals, or passengers with limited mobility, I am concerned that the running boards present an unreasonable slip hazard under common winter driving conditions. At this time, no injury has occurred; however, the frequency and severity of the slipping raises concern for potential injury if the issue is not addressed. The running boards are factory-installed and have not been modified. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether the design or materials of the factory running boards meet reasonable safety standards for normal winter conditions. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [XXX] Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Component: Exterior – Running Boards INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While Driving to my appointments via the freeway, all of a sudden the vehicle slowed down, I noticed most of the warning lights were on including the check engine light that was blinking. I Happened to be near a GMC dealership which previously did repair work on my vehicle and left it with their service center for a diagnostic inspection. A week later my service advisor contacted me with their Vehicle condition report that my vehicle had camshaft and internal engine group issues. He quoted repairs but recommended replacing the engine. Repair or engine replacement $21,296.51. Six months before this issue I had the same issue the warning lights and it resorted in replacing the brake control cylinder. Once repaired no issues/messages or symptoms with my vehicle until this current engine problem/replacement.

I purchased a 2023 Chevy Tahoe in Oct 2025. Since then, I have been trying to figure out how to set up the myChevrolet app. The OnStar button doesn’t work so I called OnStar. After multiple calls, they told me that the account is linked to the previous owner and can’t be transferred because of a faulty telematics communications module. The faulty module is also causing the clock to run slow, which indicates battery drain is beginning. The OnStar module failure poses a huge safety and privacy risk. Safety concerns include battery failure that can cause me to be stranded and the fact that the previous owner has the ability to start my vehicle at any time, even while parked in my garage posing a risk to my family’s health/life with trapped carbon monoxide building up. Privacy concerns include the previous owners ability to track my vehicle, lock and unlock doors, access my contacts, call log, location, and more. This is a significant risk. The dealership should not have sold me a vehicle with a defective module without repairing it and now refuse to fix it. This should have been included in GMs factory recall for 2023 Tahoe TCU’s or a new recall should be issued. Consumers should not bear the burden to fix a widely known safety, health, and privacy risk.

My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS has experienced repeated service issues within the first year of ownership. The vehicle has been in the repair shop five separate times and out of service for approximately five months total. Due to extended repair periods, the mileage remains extremely low. A primary concern involved the steering system. The steering wheel was noticeably off-center while driving straight, requiring continuous correction to maintain proper lane position. Steering-related components were inspected and replaced. There were no warning lights present at the time. However, improper steering alignment raised safety concerns regarding vehicle tracking and stability. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired by authorized service providers. I am submitting this complaint to determine whether this reflects a broader safety-related issue with this model year.

I was driving down [XXX] in LaPuente and every light on my dash lit up and I attempted to Exit freeway and my brakes would not work so I waited for car to slow down and luckily I was near by the Puente hills Chevrolet dealer. Also my steering wheel was very lose and it felt that I couldn’t steer well. I pulled into dealership and had to push my brakes all the way to the floor board just for Tahoe to stop. Dealer said that there was various communication codes which they said vehicle would have to stay due to safety issues. While traveling on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost all power. The gas pedal became unresponsive, and the engine ceased functioning entirely—without any prior warning or indicators. I was forced to coast into a nearby parking lot to prevent a potential collision. This incident put both myself and my child at serious risk of injury or worse, had it occurred at a higher speed or in heavier traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. I had no choice but to have it towed to the dealership for evaluation. A week later, the dealership diagnosed the issue as a locked-up engine, confirming that a full engine replacement is necessary. Unfortunately, the replacement engine is currently on backorder, and they are unable to provide an estimated time of arrival. To make matters worse, the dealership has no loaner vehicles available for at least a month. GM only offers a rental reimbursement of $44 per day, which is significantly below the cost of even a basic rental vehicle in our area ($74/day). This leaves me with limited transportation options, even though I am currently making monthly payments of over $1,400 on a vehicle that is completely unusable. Adding to the severity of this situation, the vehicle is also subject to a manufacturer recall, but no remedy or parts are currently available to resolve the issue. As a parent of multiple children, this entire experience has left me shaken. I cannot begin to imagine the consequences had this failure happened at a higher speed or in less forgiving conditions. I am extremely concerned for my family’s safety going forward. GM has stated they will not extend or provide additional warranty coverage until the repair is complete, which leaves me feeling unprotected and anxious about the future reliability of this vehicle. The absence of warning signs and the total loss of power while driving make this a critical safety concern that must be addressed. I urge NHTSA to hold the manufacturer accountable.

First the front collision warning systems kept coming on and off. Then the engine died on the highway and I had to restart. I drove a little further and it died again and would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer and they are telling me the engine has seized and needs to be replaced. I have 40,000 mile and the car is 2 years old. It was very dangerous to have the car die twice while at speed on the highway.

While slowing for a red light my vehicle shut off, completely powered off. I had to press the ignition start button to turn it back on. I pulled to the side of the road, then two messages flashed on the dash screen, Service Transmission and Service Brake Assist. I called and scheduled a vehicle service at a local Chevrolet service center. After the service center evaluated my vehicle (in their possession for 72 hours) they stated there were no diagnostic findings and they could not replicate the issue. A vehicle randomly shutting off with no identifiable or repairable issue is a public safety concern.

The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different Chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.

Onstar Telematics Module failure. Part is on backorder with no ETA. This module failure removes the navigation, Onstar services including safety notifications, clocks can stop working, Android auto/Apple Carplay services are not functional or intermittently working. My vehicle has stalled out at a red light. GM is refusing to cover the replacement saying it is out of the bumper to bumper to warranty but they have so many of these needing replaced they can't say when they will get the parts. Module has been confirmed dead by a mechanic at a private shop and by the dealership. GM states this is under the bumper to bumper to warranty even though it controls parts of the power train and should be covered under powertrain warranty as well.
