We are leasing a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV. We like the car, however there is a safety issue that has continually occurring. There is a very strong reflection on the windshield from the materials that make up the dashboard. It can occur in bright sun but also on bright cloudy days. I want to be clear, I am not being blinded by the sun in my eyes but rather the dash reflecting onto the Windshield and obscuring my vision. I’ve had two close calls because of this. I mentioned it to the Chevy service lady when I had an appointment and she said her boyfriend had exactly the same problem with his Equinox EV. He had to put a carpet piece on the dash to stop the obscuring reflection.
NHTSA #11718324
The 2 problems that I am reporting are visibility issues. There are situations when it is very difficult to see out of this car. When bright sunshine comes through the windshield it reflects off of the dashboard making it almost impossible to see out. Pedestrians are very difficult to see and it's very dangerous to continue driving. The second problem is that the driver and passenger side windows are deeply tinted. I thought that this is illegal. At night the windows are so dark that you cannot see autos or pedestrians in intersections. I find that I have to roll down the windows so that I can safely see before proceeding through the intersection. I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the winter or a driving rainstorm. I have found that wearing polarized sunglasses helps with the windshield problem but only replacing the side windows will the tinted window problem be fixed.

The dash allows for significant amount of glare that reflects in bright sunlight and impare visibility through the windshield.

We love the car and would buy it again - BUT - it has one significant problem which is in-fact a safety problem. Anytime the sun is shining on the dashboard there is a major reflection on the windshield. See the attached photo which was made as we were pulling into the garage. It was 12:41 PM EDT on July 17th, about a half hour before solar noon. The car is pointed at approximately 85 degrees (almost due east) and the sun is about 90 degrees to our right. This is a extreme case of the reflection because the garage is darker than ambient. It is almost impossible to view where we are going. But the excessive reflection is always there when the sun is shining on the dash. It is my opinion that the car need some sort of anti reflective surface. While driving my 2024 Chevy Equinox EV, intense glare reflects off the dashboard and windshield under certain lighting conditions, especially in sunlight. This glare creates severe visibility issues, at times completely blinding the driver and making it unsafe to operate the vehicle. The issue poses a significant safety risk not only to me but to other drivers and pedestrians. The problem is consistent and reproducible, but no warning messages or indicators are shown. I have not yet had it formally inspected by the manufacturer or dealer, but the issue appears to be a design flaw affecting visibility. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Equinox 2 EV 2024 Dashboard has a pattern that reflects in the sun onto the front window making it extremely difficult to see out the window. Happens all the time.
NHTSA #11660250
Due to the design of the dash there is a horrible glare on the windshield and it makes it very difficult to see out of the front windshield. This needs to be addressed immediately as it very distracting and can lead to an accident due to lack of visibility on sunny days.
NHTSA #11659004
There is a horrible glare on the windshield during sunny conditions that reflects the slatted dash lines onto the windshield. It is incredibly hard to see during certain times of the day.
NHTSA #11654301
Sunlight hits the dashboard and reflects a glare onto the windshield that partially blocks view of the road. The dashboard reflection is enough that it can be difficult to see traffic, people cross the road, etc.
NHTSA #11654768
It is difficult to see out of the windshield when the sun in shining. The material the dash is made of makes an awful reflection on the windshield.
NHTSA #11652518
When driving in a direction that is nearly aligned with the sun, the reflection off the dashboard presents a hologram-like image onto the windshield which obstructs the drivers view. It looks like it’s caused by the textured pattern of the dashboard. My wife typically drives the car, and we’re just coming out of overcast days so this is the first time I’ve really noticed how bad it is.

Glare on the windshield from the dash is a major problem in this vehicle. Upon searching for remedies, I've found dozens upon dozens (probably well over 100) of unique posts, videos and comments all regarding this issue. I just purchased this vehicle two days ago and I turned south on to a busy street earlier today and I could barely see and had to immediately pull off to a side street and find a way to cover the dash (I used my hoodie) to get home. This is dangerous. A guy even makes a mat for this problem: [XXX] But in my opinion, GM needs to fix this in a recall. A child could run out in one of these major blind spots and I'd never see them until it's too late. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When sun hits dashboard causing a glare from material of dashboard to make visibility an issue.
NHTSA #11636524
My Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS has glare on the front windshield due to design grille on the area below front windshield. So there is extreme glare depending on the direction of sunlight hitting that area. So I strongly feel this is a security issue for all drivers on the road and GM should alleviate this with a solution. Please advise.
NHTSA #11636329
Highly reflective interior glass makes using the side mirrors impossible in common sunny conditions. Unable to see cars and blind spot monitoring light. Incident occurred where I merged into car after straining to use mirror to ensure area was clear. Also, reflection from interior in certina condition make forward visibility dangerous.
NHTSA #11636101
Glare from the sun on the dash causes blindness and unable to safely see out of the windshield. It's a safety hazard to operate and unsafe for anyone else on he road when the sun hits it. Test drove and bought the car on a cloudy day and the first time the sun hit my dash I nearly rear ended the car in front of me. Emergency braking system activated to avoid a collision due to me not being able to see the brake lights in front of me even though I was wearing sunglasses
NHTSA #11653527
There is a terrible reflection from the dashboard onto the windshield that under certain conditions, ie: bright sunlight, it really interferes with visibility, making driving rather dangerous. I've read of many complaints about this same problem.
NHTSA #11634234
The angle and possibly the material of the windshield catches a glare/reflection of the dash that heavily affects visibility for the driver. When there is a bright light shining on the dash it is almost impossible to see past the glare. This can be a real hazard as this obstructs the drivers view of the road.
NHTSA #11633004
There is excessive reflection from the dashboard onto the windshield in bright and sunny conditions, making it extremely unsafe and nearly impossible to see. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW! SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET INJURED OR KILLED IF NOT ADDRESSED!
NHTSA #11630020
When it is sunny, there is so much glare from the dashboard on the windshield that it's dangerous to drive and is not safe at all. The reflection blinds out the driver and there is no visibility
NHTSA #11625993
There is a severe glare on the windshield caused by the dashboard. It make it very hard to see. I happens even at night but is most pronounced when the sun is at a lower angle.
NHTSA #11624447
Dashboard glare issue, love the car but this is bad.
NHTSA #11621892
There’s a glare of dashboard on the windshield and it makes difficult to drive in sun. The glare is so bad that obsructs the visibility of the oncoming vehicles
NHTSA #11622094
Dashboard glare on sunny days makes it difficult to see a head of you.
NHTSA #11621732
The windshield heavily reflects the dashboard in most lighting conditions, making it difficult to see out of the windshield. Polarized sunglasses can help reduce the effect of this issue, but there are many times of day when lighting conditions make it difficult to see while wearing sunglasses, but still cause the strong glare from the windshield. This issue is a common complaint of Equinox EV owners on social media.
NHTSA #11621482
Dashboard glare when sunny. Makes it extremely difficult to look at what is in front of the vehicle. Wearing sunglasses helps but it is still a major safety concern that sunglasses are required every time I drive to just be able to look out the front windshield! Over time there will be many accidents due to the glare reducing visibility.
NHTSA #11621484
There is a glare on the windshield from the dash. When it’s daylight, it’s difficult to see the road because the glare from the dash is so bad.
NHTSA #11621491
The dashboard glare is extremely dangerous. I can’t see people walking when I’m driving because the glare is so intense because of the dashboard.
NHTSA #11621492
Windshield glares so much that it obstruct view ahead sometimes.
NHTSA #11621667
The glare is horrible during the daytime. The glare makes it so it can be difficult to see clearly.
NHTSA #11621473
UNKNOWN The dashboard creates a glare on the windshield during sunny days that is almost impossible to see through.
NHTSA #11621589
Front Dashboard is made out of very glossy plastic and it causes very severe glare at almost any hour of the day or even at nights whenever passing by a street lights. Amount of glare is so severe that driving at sunrise or sunset is almost impossible without a polarizing glass. Visibility is severely affected due to the material choice.
NHTSA #11621592
Intense glare of the dashboard onto the windshield while driving. I don't know if it's due to the type of plastic the dashboard is made out of, or the grade of glass the windshield is, or both, but the glare the dashboard puts on the windshield is SEVERE and happens at ALL times of day, regardless of the car's orientation towards the sun. The glare gets even worse as dust accumulates on the windshield and dashboard. There was a pedestrian in front of me at 9AM and I barely saw them. If you search google for chevy forms and reddit forms, many others are reporting this issue. To put it into perspective, when I drive my dad's BMW, the heads up display for the speedometer is less intense than the dashboard glare in my car, and the dashboard glare in my Equinox EV takes up the ENTIRE windshield. I know it doesn't seem like much, but years and years of this everyday multiplied by thousands of drivers is bound to cause terrible traffic accidents. Thanks for taking the time to read my complaint. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA #11621459
There is excessive reflection on the windshield, especially at mid morning and mid afternoon times on sunny day. This reflection is enough that visibility is limited. I have experienced instances where vehicles pulling onto the roadway were hidden from my view by this reflection.
NHTSA #11621564
I nearly drove through a red light because the glare from the dashboard was so bad. Dash has multiple vent lines in it and is in a very shiny black. Driving in sunlight knocks out nearly 50% of the visibility in the windshield. If I do not wear polarized sunglasses, it is very difficult to see. I have not had the problem confirmed. No one has inspected it. It is a design flaw that needs to be addressed because visibility is very badly impaired.
NHTSA #11621655
The persistent glare on the windshield is a hazard, particularly during the sunniest part of the day. Despite this, Chevrolet has not recommended or provided a solution.
NHTSA #11620059
Sunlight reflection off the dashboard is mirrored on the windshield, badly obscuring visibility.
NHTSA #11621549
The dashboard reflects onto the windshield especially when it is sunny and makes it difficult to see through the windshield. The "texture" of the dashboard reflects sunlight into the windshield. We placed a black, non-reflective, cloth on the dashboard to alleviate this situation but this is not a permanent fix.
NHTSA #11622180
excessive dashboard glare restricted clear vision of road and associated pedestrians and other vehicles.
NHTSA #11707351
When driving in the midday sun, the reflection on the dashboard is so bad that I can hardly see out of the windscreen. Happens frequently when driving in direct sun.

I have had an ongoing concern with my new 2024 Equinox EV RS and wanted to share a potential safety issue. While driving during the daytime, I noticed significant glare reflecting off the front louvered component of the dashboard onto the windshield. This glare severely affected my visibility, especially when driving towards the sun, creating a distraction and making it difficult to see pedestrians, road signs, and other vehicles. This problem has occurred on almost a daily basis if it is sunny. I came very close to hitting a pedestrian walking along the roadside due to the impaired visibility. I explored the Chevy Equinox EV forum and discovered other drivers have complained of a similar problem. I contacted my dealership and showed my salesman the issue and he acknowledged the glare and spoke with the service manager (Patriot Chevrolet in Limerick, PA). The service manager did not leave his office to personally look at the glare. The dealership offered no solutions but told me to call the Chevrolet Customer Service number (800-222-1020). I had an extended conversation with the rep but no meaningful solutions were offered. I have owned many cars in my life but I have never experienced such severe glare and obstructed visibility. I am concerned that someone will be injured or killed.
NHTSA #11618740
Design flaw/safety issue? The dash trim gets reflected onto the windshield and severely impairs visibility.
NHTSA #11617989
The way the dash is made, anytime there is bright sunlight the reflection on the windshield makes it very difficult to see. This makes it very difficult to drive safely and see what is ahead of you, especially when switching between bright sunlight and a shaded area.
NHTSA #11617699
Dashboard design creating significant glare on the windshield. Visibility is impaired.
NHTSA #11618107
There is an extreme glare in the windshield coming from the dashboard in normal daylight conditions. While a minor glare or in occasion is common, this glare is constant, excessive and reduces road visibility inhibiting operators field of vision. This will cause operating errors and accidents and should be addressed.
NHTSA #11616078
This vehicle has a dashboard. The dashboard is made out of material that is subjected to extremely bad solar glare there are times that when driving you can’t even see out of the front window without wearing polarized sunglasses and even then you still can’t see. I’ve never had a car do this. It is so bad that when rounding corners, you may not be able to see a pedestrian or bicycle on the side of the road because you cannot see through the glare.
NHTSA #11621466
The ridged black dashboard design made of shiny black plastic causes extremely distracting glare on the windshield.
NHTSA #11615633
There is a severe glare that reflects off of the dash board component. It reduces visibility greatly, and sometimes makes it hard to drive. Other individuals with this car (on forums such as Reddit) have the same issue with this glare.
NHTSA #11622376
Pattern on top of dash makes it very difficult to drive in certain sunlight conditions. All trims of vehicle affected. Vast number of user complaints on Reddit. Incredibly distracting. Concerning. Needs immediate fix. Is a major oversight. See photo attached

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV. Beginning approximately two infotainment software updates ago, the vehicle's Bluetooth system repeatedly drops the connection to my paired iPhone, and the contact-sync feature stopped functioning entirely. The problem did not exist when the vehicle was new and started only after a vehicle software update, indicating a software-introduced defect rather than a phone fault. I have reset the infotainment system and performed a full delete-and-re-pair on both the phone and the vehicle; the dropouts and contact-sync failure persist. Because the system no longer reliably supports hands-free calling, I am unable to consistently place or receive calls without handling the phone directly while driving, which I consider a driver-distraction safety concern. No warning was issued and I am not aware of a recall or software fix addressing this.
NHTSA #11745063
Can hardly see out windshield on sunny days.
NHTSA #11720853
The component that malfunctioned is the recall for the pedestrian safety audible sound. It available for inspection upon request. The safety of others was put at risk because the sound does not turn off at the required 18.6 mph and instead turns off at 24 mph, that may exceed community exposure requirements. The problem been confirmed by General Motors. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The problem first appeared after the required recall was fixed.

We just bought the car and are realizing that by removing CarPlay from the EV versions (the ICE versions have it in the same hardware) hands free texting is very problematic. Group texts com through as individual texts, voice texting back to groups doesn’t work. This is a safety issue since it will cause people to go back to looking at their phone and the lack of CarPlay is simply a money grab that comes at the expense of safety.

The instrument cluster screen displayed a message that said "service vehicle display" then went completely black. Without this screen, I have no idea how fast I'm going, the charge of the car, if there is some kind of hazard around the car. I brought the vehicle in for service on 7/2/25, where I was told the car attempted to update but failed, so they pushed through the update and it should be fine now. I then took it home, charged the car, and let it sit. As soon as I turned it on again, the "service vehicle display" message reappeared. Then as I was driving, the instrument cluster screen went out, followed by the infotainment screen. The instrument panel screen then got vertical rainbow lines across it and didn't return. I brought the vehicle back in on 7/17/25. They took the whole dashboard apart, determined that it was a loose cable, plugged it back in, and told me it should be fine now. I took the car home, charged it, and let it sit. The next time I drove it, the "service vehicle display" message returned, then the instrument panel went out. I brought it back in on 8/6/25. The car stayed there until 8/22/25, when they told me that they replaced some of the cables and it should be fine now. I am not comfortable driving this car with my 4 month old if I can't see how fast I'm going, how much charge is on the car, or worrying that the infotainment screen, and therefore the back-up camera, are going to suddenly go out.

When using the turn sign to turn right, it will overcompensate and after completing the turn, turn the left turn signal on. The vehicle is available for inspection. The dealership, on second trip for the issue, was able to duplicate the issue. They did change the turn signal stalk. It is still doing this same thing, however less. I have mentioned it the dealership that it is still occurring and they have opened a case with GM they state. It put the safety of me and others at risk because people behind me believe I am turning left all of a sudden, and I am not turning left. There were no warning messages that had or have appeared. I first reported this to the dealership in August of 2024. This has happened more than the date I put down below. It has happened 6 times since the repair was done approximately 2 months ago.
NHTSA #11646617
The turn signal stalk is not correctly calibrated. When you push up it will properly hold to activate the right turn signal. However, after completing the right turn and it auto releases, many times it will release so hard that it will activate the left turn signal. This leads to a confusion for other drivers as to where you intend to go and could pose a safety risk.
NHTSA #11629179
During certain sunlight conditions, forward visibility is impaired because of extreme front windshield glare from the black dashboard.
NHTSA #11622131
Front windshield has a terrible glare from the inside causing sight for driving obstructed. It has been hard to see driving when sun is on hitting down on it. I believe that this is a big major safety issue for many Equinox EV drivers. This needs to be recalled and a new windshield manufactured that doesn’t give off a glare.
NHTSA #11622189
Intermittently, when you start the car, the computer or infotainment system does not work properly. For example starting the car today, the backup camera worked normally until my phone connected. When my phone connected the grid showing me what direction I was going based off of the way the wheel was turned disappeared. No matter what I did I could not get the grid back. This is one of many examples. When this is occurring all functions are extremely slow. For example I got into the car this afternoon and didn't want to hear the radio so I hit mute, the button did nothing. Then I turn the volume down, again it did not go down. Then I hit the phone call button on the steering wheel and again nothing. This seems to consistently happen when you first start the car while on Android phone connects to Android Auto. After a few moments while I'm driving, I am startled because suddenly the volume mutes and then unmutes and then goes down and then goes back up... Basically everything I pressed several moments ago suddenly happens like it's been sitting in a queue indefinitely. When the car is like this, if somebody calls me on the phone the Bluetooth is very garbled or if I use the navigation that's in Android Auto, again everything's very garbled and time delayed. The problem seems to resolve itself sometime around 5 to 10 minutes after I start driving so it only happens when you first start the car and it does not happen every time. The fact that this affects just about every system and the time delay causes things to happen when you're trying to focus on driving makes this a very unsafe situation. I called two local dealers who basically said that they'd be happy to check it out but if there's nothing wrong that general motors will cover, then I have to pay for their time to even look at it. Since it doesn't happen every time, I'm not willing to do that but this is a serious safety concern. I search for similar problems on Google and there are many reported.
NHTSA #11618997
Defective turn signal stalk -- often after I engage the right turn signal and complete a right turn, the left turn signal will flash for approximately three blinks, falsely alerting others in my vicinity that I'm preparing for a left turn or lane change. Additionally, it is often difficult to engage the right turn signal, as the stalk won't stay engaged, making it difficult for me to signal a right turn or lane change.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced phantom braking and abruptly stopped on three occasions. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving approximately 60-70 MPH on the highway, while driving and approaching a stoplight approximately 300 ft. away. The failure also occurred while driving from a complete stop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and attempted to diagnose the vehicle through the OnStar App, but no diagnostic trouble codes were found. The manufacturer contacted the dealer to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 9,500.

The AEB feature is very sensitive and has often activated when there was no good reason. For instance, it has activated a few times while moving slowly in heavy traffic. Additionally, the feature frequently activates when reversing out of a parking spot or garage, especially when the weather is rainy. In one instance during light rain, the car slammed to a halt more than five times while trying to back out of a parking spot, and there were no obstacles anywhere near the vehicle. I believe that this feature has nearly caused several accidents and has made me feel less safe while operating the vehicle. A software solution has been implemented for the 2026 model year, but not for the older models.

My cars automatic braking system stops when there is no present need. It brakes with extreme force. It has happened multiple times to both myself and my husband while driving. The car stops and instantly I think I must have hit something that stopped the car. There isn't anything closer than 10 - 20 or feet away. this happens at a slow speed and is very startling. We took in in to the dealer yesterday and they told us they couldn't replicate it. It happened to my husband this morning again. I looked online to see if there are any complaints to which I saw that there have been numerous complaints. Some stating that this phantom braking has happened on the highways at speeds of 65-70 mph. The thought of that is so frightening. An accident with injuries or deaths could occur. Please look into this. Thank you

While driving my 2024 Chevy Equinox EV in stop-and-go traffic, I experienced a sudden and violent application of the emergency braking system without warning or apparent cause. I was accelerating from a complete stop to approximately 5 MPH. The vehicle ahead of me was maintaining a distance of roughly 6 to 9 feet. Unlike previous instances where the vehicle has falsely detected an object and triggered a red warning light (without engaging the brakes), this time there was no alert or warning. The system immediately and forcefully applied the brakes, locking them completely. This abrupt action caused a near-whiplash effect and nearly resulted in a rear-end collision. I believe this may be a malfunction or overly sensitive calibration of the automatic emergency braking system. The lack of any visual or audible warning prior to brake engagement is especially concerning. I am reporting this incident to raise awareness of a potential safety issue that could endanger drivers and passengers. Additional Notes: • Road conditions were normal. • No obstacles or vehicles were detected in the immediate path. • The incident occurred during daylight hours in clear weather.
NHTSA #11693563
Vehicle engages the forward collision control system without an obstacle, locking the brakes and causing abrupt stops. This usually happens in heavy slow moving traffic conditions with sharp and short accelerations (merging and lane changing).

The video processing unit in my vehicle stopped working. I lost all cameras all safety equipment in my vehicle. All radar stopped working. I took my car to the Chevy dealership after three days. They advised multiple vehicles have this problem and they were ordering the part. They told me it was OK to drive my car. on my way home from the dealership I was involved in a head-on collision. My car is being repaired, but the body shop stays. This is still not working and they do not feel safe for me to drive it to the dealership

Since my vehicle has a software update, my vehicle has had multiple instances of the AEB engaging in instances where it previously wouldn't have. The worst case was when I was in a parking lot turning into a space and the AEB went off when there was no reason for it to. This has also gone off while driving when slowing down at a light when they're was another vehicle in front but I was slowing down as normal.

I bought a new Chevy Equinox EV on 12/13/24. The day I bought the car, I found that while driving home on interstates and other roads listed by GM as mapped for Supercruise, the system will work for a few minutes, then cut out. There is no warning in advance of this shutdown. When all this happens the car immediately brakes in the middle of traffic and loses steering control, red lights go off, and the driver must quickly assume control to prevent a crash. After it happens, the car pops up a message that the ACC is also unavailable. Then another message that Forward Collision Detection is also unavailable, at which point the whole Supercruise system shuts down until the car is turned off and restarted, and then the whole cycle is repeated. This even happened once in the middle of an automated lane change. It's extremely dangerous. I brought in to the dealer service the following Monday, 12/16/24. The dealer service dept. confirmed the problem and contacted GM, which responded that they were aware of the problem and had engineers working on it. They would not provide any timeline for when a fix would be available, but looking online, this problem has continued for many months with no solution. It apparently does not affect all cars, but there are plenty of reports online of cars that it does affect.

I manage a fleet of 12 of these vehicles for a Veterans Affairs hospital. I have had numerous complaints from the drivers about how distracting and invasive these systems are for the drivers. The red dash lights are blinding, the audible alert scares someone who is not used to these things and are very distracting in a tense moment when you need to be reacting, you cannot because you are too distracted by these systems. I myself am a disabled veteran with PTSD, and this system sends triggers my PTDS to where I cannot operate the vehicle. Please design something less invasive for anyone with anxiety/ptsd/depression/epilepsy/light sensitivity. For someone with any of these conditions these vehicles are completely inoperable as soon as the red light glares back off the windshield.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with no other vehicles or objects around, the forward warning collision system was activated. As a result, the automatic emergency braking system applied the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Less than 2 years old and under 50k miles. Car began to sputter and then shut off - no warnings received until the car shut off. Once able to turn back on (approx. 10 minutes) car went into limp mode. Was able to drive to a dealership where they received codes for fuel tank with no visible issues through a thorough service at the dealership. Dealership reprogrammed the car and indicated codes could replicate and require a new fuel pump.

I was on a road trip and halfway through my check engine light came on and notified me that engine power was reduced while on a 70mph highway. My car the slowed itself down to not exceed 45 then 25mph. I was in a remote area and very far away from a Chevy dealership. I was forced to drive for a long distance to make it to a Chevy dealership that was willing to work with me. Come to find out my fuel pump failed and the car is only 2 years old with only 58,000 miles. This same issue happened a few months ago and I was told by my dealership that it was just update codes required by Chevy that did not update correctly. I’ve had several other issues like this and have been told it’s because the new cars are “basically giant computers”. This car also got a new battery after one year because they stated a faulty or crappy manufacturer battery they put it went bad. My local dealership then tried to charge me for it until I reminded them of my warranty. I take my car for regular oil changes under the 6,000 miles to keep my Warranty Forever. I was terrified driving on highway roads when my car wouldn’t exceed the required speed limit causing other motorists to navigate around me all because I needed to make it to a Chevy dealership willing to work with me.

While the vehicle was in park and still running it started sputtering and idling erratically and the engine shut off. While trying to restart, the car was having a hard time starting, eventually starting with the same problem. While driving, the car was sputtering, had reduced engine power, and felt like it was going to shut down. The check engine light was on the entire duration of the incident. This has been a recurring intermittent problem that first occurred approximately three months ago. Car has been to the dealer before but the problem didn’t occur and they were unable to diagnose the issue. When taking the car to the dealership on 09 March, the dealer confirmed the problem and said it was a faulty fuel pump that will cost over $800 to repair. After a brief internet search, I found safety bulletin NS2450160 that includes 2023-2024 Chevy Equinox vehicles for this exact problem but it doesn’t include my VIN.

My 2024 Chevy Equinox went into limp mode on 2-15-26 and gave me engine codes P228C and P0089. I encountered limp mode once before this date but no check engine light went on. It lost acceleration while driving. I took it to Henna Chevrolet in Austin, TX and they told me that I am outside of the warranty window even though the vehicle has less than 60K miles. They told me that it would have been under the basic 36,000 mile warranty.

September 2025, January 2026 and March 2026 on the freeway heading into the caldecut tunnel and the car jerked check engine light came on and the engine went into reduced engine power. All three times the car had to be towed into the dealership, all three times the fuel pump has been replaced. This is a 2024 Equinox. Anyone living in the bay area knows what the traffic is like, my son could have been killed any of these times due to faulty parts being replaced into a new vehicle. Contacted GM and they refuse to buy it back. I see there is a class action suit for faulty fuel pumps but they seem to keep replacing the same faulty parts.

Started into traffic and vehicle quickly slowed way down and then started to move again. At next light power lost again. Do not remember if warning light came on but it was not there prior to the incident. Towed to dealer. Fuel pump replaced. One month later accelerating to exit in heavy traffic it lost power. Engine light came on saying something to the effect engine power lost. It Started back up quickly and I got safely where I was going. It was running ok so I finished another 400 miles of trip. Dealer service tech on phone said probably stabilizer did what it’s suppose to do and probably avoided something serious. Not too much driving since then but I can tell I don’t have the pick up I should have when accelerating. Afraid each time I give pressure to the pedal that it might stall again as it doesn’t pick up speed as I’ve been used to. Taking to dealer for 30,000 mile service and to check this out. Was told if no dash light warning they could check it out but probably will check out fine.

Vehicle suddenly brakes aggressively for no reason ! Blue sky no weather events no obstructions ! It also happens I reverse!!! At 60 mph I 4 lanes it’s not fun!!!!!!
NHTSA #11730827
We have occasional issues with the car coming to a very abrupt stop for no apparent reason. Typically this will happen when going through an intersection or pulling into our garage. Auto braking has been disabled in the system settings for quite some time, and in fact, each time we get in the car we see a warning that forward anti-collision braking is off. This has happened twice withing the past 4 days and we have concerns that if it continues to be a more frequent issue it will cause an accident. I recently spoke with another GM owner who told me they are experiencing the same issue so I thought I should log a complaint to hopefully help instigate a recall/fix.

The Equinox EV has rear Automatic Emergency Braking. On multiple occasions while backing up the vehicle's AEB has activated by slamming on the parking brake. A check of the rear camera and sensor system shows the vehicle detected nothing. A visual check also shows nothing behind the vehicle that's outside the sensor system's field of view. When this happens it feels like you just backed into a wall - hard. Latest incident was this morning while backing into a spot in a parking garage.

Driving at abut 10 mph, my brakes did not respond to pedal pressure... I had to stomp very hard on the brake pedal to have any slow down effect.... various warning messages flashed across the dashboard (see attached files)... After stopping, I turned off the car and turned it back on, the problem continued to exist..... then, after about 1 hour, I tried again and all systems were working fine. I took the car to Chevrolet Service, and apparently there were no OBDII codes stored in the vehicle.

here is the email I sent to GM. My name is [XXX] and I am having a issue with my 2024 Chevy Equinox VIN: [XXX] . There have been about 5 times that the brakes fail. Pushing the brake does nothing car just keeps rolling. Once I can get the car to stop and shut it down and restart the brakes once again work. It was in for service for a few days but there where no error codes and they could not replicate the problem. They did do a update on the car. While my car was in the shop I had the same problem with a Malibu rental. Called the dealership and talked to service and told them of the problem seems to be me somehow. Was asked if I use both feet to gas/brake the car as I was told there is a problem with that. No I don't do that but it seems I can catch both peddles with one foot and this is when the problem occurs. I have to make sure how I brake. Have found out today when it happened once again that if I put the car in neutral and press the gas the brakes start to work but not until then. There also was another issue today as when I did get the car to stop and put it in park I could not put the car back in gear until I shut the car off and restarted. Can someone let me know on how to proceed other then cautiously. I would take the car back in but they can fix a problem they don't see. Any insight would be appreciated. Question 1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer 1) The brakes and yes the automobile is available for inspection. Question 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer 2) My wife and I deliver meals on wheels in the Georgia Appalachian mountains every day. There are hundreds of curves on our route. When we (we have BOTH experience this effect when driving) gently press the brakes most of the time the car responds by slowing down gently. But there is AT LEAST a dozen or more times a day when, while pressing down on the brakes in EXACTLY the same way the car will slow down 5-10 mph in SECOND OR TWO. This jerks us forward and multiple times our head slam back into the headrest. When a vehicle is behind us they have to slam on their brakes also. Someday We will be rear ended because of these brakes. It is a completely random occurrence - we never kno when a gentle push on the brakes is going to cause this dangerous show down. Question 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer 3) We complained to Valley River Chevrolet in Murphy NC. The service guy told me that they examined the brakes and they looked OK. He said that these are new electric brakes Chevy is using and that happens with them. Question 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer 4) It has been inspected only by the Chevrolet dealership. Question 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer 5) They first appeared when we bought the vehicle, My wife thought that I was pressing down too hard on the brakes to make it happen and I told her I pressed the brakes the same way each time. Then she drove it for a number of weeks and found the brakes did exactly the same thing to her. There was no message.

I was in a parking lot and parking at an EV charger. As I attempted the brake, the vehicle did not respond, so I tried to pump the brake and still no response. It eventually made contact with the barrier in front of the charger. It caused some damage to the front end and several lights are lit up on the dash that aren't normally lit. This took place over the course of maybe 2-3 seconds, so minimal time to react to the brakes failing. The vehicle went over 3k miles earlier that day and leased back in Sept 24, so still fairly new. Have tried calling two Chevrolet service departments and there have been either scheduling issues or they say they do not have an EV tech. Contacted Chevrolet about where to take it to be checked out and they are supposed to get back to me.

Component Malfunction and Availability for Inspection: The vehicle’s infotainment system is critically malfunctioning and poses a serious safety threat. The issue has persisted despite four service attempts, and GM refuses to repair it. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This malfunction creates an extremely hazardous driving condition. While traveling at highway speeds in unfamiliar, high-traffic areas, the system has suddenly frozen, pixelated, emitted loud static from the speakers, and disabled all controls. In one incident during Chicago rush hour (65 mph zone), I lost navigation, audio controls, and screen functionality simultaneously. The sudden, jarring noise and visual failure distracted me and left me unaware of my location. With no safe exits, I had to dangerously operate my phone while steering through speeding traffic just to regain directions—putting my life and others at risk. This wasn’t a choice, it was a desperate action forced by a system failure. This situation was terrifying, disorienting, and could have easily resulted in a crash. Reproduction/Confirmation of the Problem: The issue has not been successfully reproduced by the dealer, despite recurring complaints and multiple service visits. It occurs regardless of whether a device is connected via Bluetooth or USB, and with different users' phones. Inspection by Others: The manufacturer has failed to correct the issue after repeated attempts. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance representatives. Warning Signs and Timeline: No warning lamps or messages appear before the failure. It strikes without notice. The system shows severe symptoms: frozen screen, distorted sound, mismatched song info, unresponsive buttons, and audio continuing after the car is shut off. Restarting the vehicle does not fix it. The randomness and severity of these failures make the vehicle unsafe to operate, especially in high-speed or unfamiliar driving conditions.

The contact's wife owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that a strong, burnt rubber odor could be smelled while taking out the trash in the middle of the night. Soon after, the contact stated that the front passenger side window shattered as flames began to emit from the vehicle. The contact immediately rushed to move his other vehicle away from the burning vehicle while on the phone with the authorities. There were no occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the failure. The authorities arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed; however, the contact never received a copy of the report. Police were also present at the scene of the fire but were not certain if a report was filed. Per the fire investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by the driver-side seat warmer. No physical injuries were reported; however, both the contact and his wife suffered severe emotional distress. No property damage was reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where it remained in their possession. The vehicle had yet to be labeled as destroyed by the contact's insurance company. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 16,989.

The dashboard on the Equinox EV has a dangerous glare that can impact driving safety for several hours at a time. The glare can be so bad that you can’t see out the windshield without some sort of visual assistance like polarized sunglasses.
NHTSA #11621477
On multiple occasions, the glare back coming from the dashboard is so intense I often lose visibility of the road on sunny days or when passing under lamp posts at night. I have almost gotten into multiple accidents due to not seeing pedestrians and light colored/silver vehicles turning in front of me. I took the car to the dealership so they could try to fix it, but they said it’s up to GM to do anything. I have felt so unsafe driving this vehicle, and this problem is very known in the community, and needs to be fixed asap. I live in a residential area so I often drive slow, but that doesn’t prevent the glare from happening so there aren’t any safety things on my end I could do to make it better and safer to drive.

On May 9, 2026, while pulling into a parking garage parking space at low speed (below 5 MPH), the brake pedal was pressed but failed to engage or slow the vehicle. The pedal was pressed completely to the floor with no resistance, and the vehicle continued moving forward until it struck a wall, causing damage to the vehicle. Earlier the same day, the brakes produced an abnormal hissing sound while pulling out of a parking space. No other symptoms or abnormalities were present prior to failure. The vehicle may also have recently received a software update, although it is unknown whether that is related to the incident. The failure appears to involve the brake system and the driver safety assistance systems equipped on the vehicle like forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, and Dynamic Brake Support systems. The exact failed component is currently unknown and remains under inspection by a Chevrolet dealership. No warning lights, messages, or audible alerts appeared before, during, or after the incident. The automatic braking/collision avoidance system also did not activate. Because the vehicle had no braking capability at the time of the incident, the occupants and nearby pedestrians were placed at risk of serious injury. On May 10, 2026, the vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealership for inspection. The dealership has been unable to reproduce the issue, and no mechanical defects or diagnostic trouble codes related to the incident were identified. On May 13, 2026, the issue was escalated to the GM Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for further review, and the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting a response to the TAC case. The dealership acknowledges similar brake-loss concerns referenced in GM service bulletins involving the 2025 Chevy Equinox and other models, including bulletin N24471431, although they stated the bulletin does not apply to this specific VIN.

As I was parked with the car running, my 2024 Equinox suddenly shut down and the check engine light came on. I tried to start it, but it didn’t. Someone tried to jump the battery, thinking it was that, but it wasn’t. I had it towed to the dealership and after 2 days they said the Fuel Pump Power Control Module needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, GM did not have the part, but the dealership found one in another state and we had to wait several days for it to be mailed to them. After a week, once the part was replaced, they tried to start the car and realized that the original issue fried the battery, so they had to replace that as well. I was told that they had seen several customers with the same issue and wouldn’t be surprised if GM eventually issues a recall. They also said they couldn’t be sure the replacement part wouldn’t have the same issue. I did some research and found that GM has had this issue with 2019 - 2024 vehicles. Some customers reported that they were driving and almost got hit by other vehicles when theirs shut down. My car only had 18000 miles when this occurred. I no longer feel safe driving my car.

The vehicle first experienced a serious malfunction on October 12, 2025, while driving on an expressway at 65 mph, and the same issue recurred on March 8, 2026, while driving on a 6-lane, busy highway at 45 mph. The condition involves the vehicle unexpectedly shutting down, rendering the acceleration pedal useless and causing the car to glide to a complete stop in traffic, creating a significant safety concern and rendering the vehicle unreliable for normal use. The vehicle has been at the Chevrolet dealership since March 8 2026 with them unable to replicate the issue. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. I called OnStar both times it happened immediately after the incident, with neither time resulting in any negative results on the report.

Vehicle was able to fast charge even though the vehicle was coding for high voltage battery issue. Was informed via Chevy EV that it could be a "glitch" and to continue to drive it, charge it, and see if it would just go away. I did not feel comfortable driving around with a high voltage battery warning and took it to the dealership. Dealership tried to make me drive off lot with it saying it might just be a "glitch" and to call them back if it did not go away. I refused got mgmt involved and was provided a loaner so they could look at my vehicle. - Dealership called me and notified me ,1/6/2025 11:32 AM, that the error was in the thermal management system for the battery. The heat pump that is used to provide thermal mgmt to the battery to ensure safe operating temps had failed. - Safety was put in risk because I park in my driveway which sides up against my house as well as my neighbors house. There is where my charger is also installed. Safety for myself and others was also put at risk. Highway driving increases heat of the battery pack I was told to continue using this vehicle (drive highway daily) which endangers myself in the vehicle and other people around if it caught on fire. - Vehicle was inspected on 1/6 and found to have faulty Thermal system after being told to keep driving on 1/3. - Warning lamp no actual restrictions or information as to what was wrong. GM wanted me to keep driving it.

My 2024 Equinox was returned to the dealership on approximately October 1, 2025, due to a check engine light related to the torque converter. I required a rental vehicle during this time. I picked up my vehicle on October 10, 2025, and all repairs were covered under my extended warranty. I was informed that my rental reimbursement would be issued once I submitted the required paperwork. My safety and the safety of my grandchildren were put at risk loss of power and control-stalling, in ability to accelerate in traffic, gear slippage and over heating Given the known history of torque converter issues in the Equinox—dating back as early as 2005—it is disheartening that GM continues to sell vehicles at premium prices while failing to properly support the customers who purchase them.

The biggest issue is last year while driving on 74 in busy traffic, the car automatically went into a "low power" mode and limited the power without warning. So now in traffic driving 55 mph, the car drastically slowed to about 35 without warning. It would not go faster no matter what I did. Then the check engine light came on afterwards. Thankfully I made it home safely after turning on my hazards and swerving through heavy traffic. I took it to the dealership and they didn't find any issues... of course. It did it again I took it back. They didn't find anything and then it stopped. Now fast forward today... my daughter drove to the store and the car cut off in the middle of the street. The way she explained it to me it was similar to what happened before. Except it cut all the way off this time. Same error on dash something like, "switched to low power." So I'm panicking. My husband and I go down and I try to start, it wouldn't start a few times. But eventually it did then cut off. Then it cut on when I kept slightly on the gas like I know to do with an older car. So... long story long... I got us home but with limited power and hazard lights. I'm glad we made it home safely and my daughter was shook up but she's safe. I'm terrified to let anyone else in the car let alone drive it. It could've been deadly.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a serious and recurring safety issue with my 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, and to request immediate investigation and resolution. The vehicle has, on multiple occasions, unexpectedly gone into “reduced power” mode (also referred to as “limp mode”), drastically limiting acceleration while driving at full speed in traffic. This most recently occurred while my teenage daughter was behind the wheel, causing the car to completely shut off in the middle of the street. The first time this happened, I was traveling at approximately 55 mph on Highway 74 when the vehicle suddenly decelerated to about 35 mph without warning, despite my attempts to accelerate. The check engine light appeared only after the power loss. We narrowly avoided a serious crash. We had to engage hazard lights, swerve through traffic, and coast the vehicle home. The dealership was unable to replicate the issue during follow-up visits, and the issue stopped temporarily—but has now returned. This is more than an inconvenience; it is a critical safety risk to myself, my family, and others on the road. Details: Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Issue: Sudden power loss while driving; engine enters limp mode without warning Occurrences: Multiple (including full vehicle shutdown) over the course of ownership Dealership Response: "No issues found" – despite multiple visits Diagnostic Error: Dashboard reads “Engine Power is Reduced” Concern: Loss of power at high speed, dangerous stalling in traffic

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The forward collision warning and rear collision warning systems malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to brake unexpectedly when there was no obstacle or threat. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle braked suddenly and forcefully without cause. This created a risk of being rear-ended in traffic, nearly caused an accident, and also risked injury to my dog who was inside the vehicle during one of the incidents. The sudden braking while backing out of my garage also poses a safety hazard. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has occurred multiple times but has not yet been formally reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle or component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the braking events. The problem occurred suddenly without any prior indication.

Good day, We purchased our 2024 Chevy Equinox EV a month and a half ago. The issue we are having is very concerning. The vehicle will suddenly come to a complete stop at unexpected times. At first, it happened 3 times while we were backing up. There was no object in the road, no warning beeps, no shaking of the seat. It simply stopped very suddenly and would not back up anymore. I had to put in in park and then again in reverse to have it move again. It’s one thing doing this while slowly backing. Last night it did it again as we were pulling into a parking spot, while in Drive. It stopped so suddenly that we both had sore necks. We are terrified that it will stop itself again while we are at a higher rate of speed or around other vehicles. It is available for inspect at any time. The dealer is entering a ticket with GM tomorrow, October 23rd. It has not been reproduced yet by the dealer. Please advise. Thank you. The bottom of driver seat leans to the left and moves when stopping or accelerating, moving forward or backwards, and does not stay stabilized like it should. This issue is not an electrical or power issue but seems to be a broken support bolt that attaches to track for seat.

The engine failed while driving on the highway on two separate occasions due a fuel pump issue. The first time it happened, it was just reduced power (could only drive maybe 40 miles an hour). I brought it to the dealership and they said that General Motors told them it needs a software update which they completed. However the second time it happened (4 months later) it was full engine shutdown in the left lane on a 65mph highway with my family (including my toddler) in the car. The first time it happened we were able to make it home by driving with the hazard lights on very slowly. But the second time we were doing the 65 mph speed limit in the left lane on a 3 lane highway. To avoid causing a pile up of cars or a deadly accident, we had to use the momentum of the speed we were going to try to safely drift across three lanes of congested traffic just to make it safely to the shoulder. We were then stuck on the side of the highway in the sun on an 80 degree day with a car with no power. I had to remove my two year old from the car so he didn't get heat exhaustion and stand on the side of the highway holding him in the little bit of shade we could find. The car then had to be towed back to my dealership over an hour away because it would not even turn on. The dealership was not able to replicate the issue the first time it happened, but did the software update that the manufacturer recommended. To my knowledge its only been inspected by the dealership. The only warning signs/messages/lights were the ones happening as the engine was failing/shutting down. There was no advanced warning. This care is less than two years old and its a leased vehicle from the dealership down repairs, I work from home there are less than 20k miles on i, this is not neglect on my part or over usage in anyway of the vehicle.

Vehicle Safety Complaint – 2024 Chevrolet Equinox I am reporting a safety defect involving unintended vehicle movement and improper shutdown behavior. While operating my 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, I was able to shut the vehicle off even though it was not in Park. After shutdown, the vehicle rolled forward on its own and struck a tree. At the time of the incident, the radio remained on despite the vehicle being turned off, indicating the vehicle may not have fully entered ignition-off state. This incident suggests a potential malfunction involving one or more of the following systems: gear position detection system transmission park engagement mechanism electronic shift control module ignition state logic or body control module The vehicle should not allow shutdown unless it is in Park, or it should provide clear warnings and prevent unintended movement. This behavior presents a serious safety risk of rollaway incidents. I am requesting a full diagnostic inspection and documentation of all stored fault codes, including history codes, prior to any resets. Please also check for software updates, technical service bulletins, or known defects related to shift position recognition or ignition state control. This issue resulted in unintended movement and property damage and poses a significant safety hazard.

I slowly put my foot on the brake and suddenly heard a noise under the vehicle. It sounded like loud grinding. As pulled forward I looked in the rear view mirror and didn't see anything in the road that may have fallen out from under my vehicle. When I pushed on the gas I was suddenly accelerating forward very quickly without my control. This was maybe one or two seconds after I heard the noise. I hit the brakes and nothing happened. My only choice was to hit the back end of the other vehicle as there were pedestrians on either side. The vehicle was continuing to accelerate even after I tried to put it in park. I was worried if the car in front of me moved, that I would keep going. I even pressed the emergency brake button twice and nothing worked. Nothing was working at all. I called the police. They told me to try turning off the car. I pressed the button to turn the car off, but it took several pushes to work. I could hear that the rpms lowered extremely slowly. Once the police came they didn't see anything in the road at all. Vehicle was moved to a body shop and when they turned on the car it immediately started revving really loudly again.

I was driving South on interstate 55 near Arnold Missouri in adaptive cruise control mode at approximately 65 mph when the car braked suddenly and came to a complete stop on the interstate. Car would not go forward after stopping. Turned the car off and restarted and the car now would drive normally. Have not used ACC since and car has behaved normally. Took the car to dealership in Farmington, MO and they reported no error codes and no recalls. I had driven over 13,000 miles in the car without any incidents previously.
NHTSA #11706698
At 5 am in the morning the car suddenly failed and indicated it was an engine or transmission failure in the middle of a four lane major intersection in a downtown area. It was dangerous due to the darkness, and poor visibility. I had to abandon the vehicle as it was dangerous to stay with it while waiting for police. I could have been injured (as could others) due to its sudden failure in the intersection of a busy roadway. Chevrolet dealership states it is the fuel pump driver module. The car is currently at the dealership for repair. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure until the car suddenly lost power. Once it lost power the engine light lit up and shortly after I had exited the vehicle, I began receiving messages from "On Star" telling me that there were engine or transmission problems. Meanwhile I stood in the pouring rain in an unsafe neighborhood, leaning out into traffic to try and stop cars from running head on into my car for over 30 minutes waiting for police.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passive keyless entry/anti-lockout system on my 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV failed. The vehicle locked all doors with the key fob still inside the cabin. The doors appeared unlocked (handles popped out) but would not open from the outside. The key fob and vehicle are available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This malfunction created a severe child safety hazard. If my daughter had been inside during warm weather, she could have been trapped in a rapidly heating vehicle with no way to escape. This posed a life-threatening risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. The problem occurred once unexpectedly, but I intend to raise it with my Chevrolet dealer for confirmation. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. The incident was resolved without emergency services, but I am reporting it immediately to GM and NHTSA for investigation. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps, chimes, or alerts. The vehicle gave no indication that the fob was inside or that the system had locked incorrectly.

Having issues with the windshield wipers clearing rain when driving and multiple camera malfunctions that I have an appointment to have both checked on 12/2. Wiper stops more than 4 inches from the edge of the window which I could probably just deal with, but when driving it pulls water anywhere from 3-8 inches further across the windshield making it very hard to see when it rains harder or you drive faster. I have owned more than 15 vehicles and never experienced anything making it difficult to see during inclement weather. The other issue is the cameras when backing up or going forward will malfunction for a day or two, then be good for a few weeks and malfunctions again sporadically. Have video of windshield wipers clearing rain issues, but it won’t let me submit, so if you want I can email. Pictures don’t show issue as well.

After Super Cruise disengages and applies the transition brake, the brake pressure sometimes doesn’t release. The vehicle remains partially or fully braked and won’t roll freely for up to 30 minutes while on a freeway or highway. We are able to move the car to the side of road when this happens but slowly. In one case we attempted to exit the freeway and the breaks got so hot they locked up in the middle of an intersection and the police department had to direct traffic around us. When this happens the warning lights are “rear cross traffic unavailable “ and “forward collision unavailable”. Dealers have inspected and opened up tac cases with manufacturer but they claim to not know issue.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the A/C failed to work as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test was performed. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the frame on the front passenger’s side near the radiator had been put together with Bondo and was not welded. The contact was informed bottom part of the radiator had fractured and was not intact, and the A/C lines were damaged, and the front bumper was damaged. The mechanic refused to repair the vehicle due to the liability and informed the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle back to the private dealer where the vehicle was purchased, and the dealer agreed to repair the vehicle; however, the vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased a Carfax Report indicated that the vehicle had been in an accident prior to the purchase. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,100.

On [XXX], about 400 miles into our trip heading South on [XXX], the Engine Reduced Power Warning came on. We were in the fast lane traveling at 70 MPH,the car immediately slowed to about 30 mph. There was no prior warning or check engine light. Vehicles behind us had to swerved and change lanes to avoid hitting us. The computer went into limp mode, when pressing the accelerator there was no power, we somehow made it to the right shoulder without getting hit and limped along to a safe spot and called a tow truck. Car was towed to an independent repair shop recommended by AAA, they ran the codes and came up with a code for High pressure Fuel pump. This vehicle is a 2024 Chevy Equinox with 15,018 miles on it, we bought brand new in April 2024 with 5 miles, always maintained at the dealer.Because we were 400 miles from home and the closest dealer in Bakersfield said they could not work on it for 3 or 4 days, we had to have the independent shop replace the fuel pump. We had to rent a car to continue our trip and picked up the car 2 days later. Replacing the fuel pump fixed the problem but the check engine light came back on about 30 miles later. The mechanic ran the codes and said it needed the computer re-flashed but it would be safe to drive home. After we got home we took it to the dealer, they re-flashed the computer and check engine light went off. After about 30 miles later the check engine light came back on, took it back to the dealer and this time the codes showed a bad catalyst converter, dealer replaced under warranty, only 15728 miles on vehicle at this point. So far 200 miles and light is still off.I I filed a complaint with General Motors customer service to let them know of this problem. I also requested to get reimbursement for the rental car and fuel pump. They refused to reimburse us because we didn't have a dealer do it, regardless of the situation. The public needs to know of this dangerous situation with the model. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Report of Dangerous Rental Vehicle and Serious Safety Incident – Rental Agreement #289216922 I am submitting this report to formally document a serious safety issue involving a rental vehicle I received from Avis in May 2024. Several safety components malfunctioned and put the safety of my and my passenger in a life threatening situation. At the time of pickup, the vehicle had a visible dent near the front right tire, which was acknowledged by the rental agent and dismissed as cosmetic. I also noted a faulty rear hatch, which opened unpredictably and struck occupants in the head on multiple occasions as it behaved erratically. Over the course of the rental, the vehicle displayed additional signs of mechanical failure — including instability at highway speeds, loud squealing, and parts of the bumper physically falling off during the trip. On May 30th, while driving at highway speed, the vehicle suffered a sudden tire blowout. Critically, the onboard system misidentified the location of the blown tire, indicating the front right tire had failed when it was actually the rear right. This misinformation delayed proper response and nearly resulted in a rollover. We were stranded on the roadside for over an hour, narrowly avoiding several collisions. A critical system failure. A responding tow truck driver observed signs that the vehicle may have previously been involved in a collision — which aligns with the visible damage present when the vehicle was picked up. Avis has, despite multiple attempts, refused to confirm whether the vehicle was removed from service after the incident or whether any safety inspection was conducted -- we remain severely concerned for the safety of anyone else using this vehicle. This vehicle should not have been rented in its condition. The failure of safety systems, mechanical instability, prior collision damage, and the loss of exterior components created a serious and unacceptable risk to the driver, passenger, and others on the road.

The vehicle seemingly at random, will engage automatic emergency braking. These events are hard braking events, locking up wheels and engaging ABS for brief moments at 75mph. There is no sensitivity adjustment, forcing the safety features off to ensure I am not rear ended. In my first month of ownership, we have experienced: 1) backing out of my garage in good weather and into my driveway (flat surface, no hills) causing whiplash. 2) inside turning lane of a 2-lane left turns, presumably detecting the outside lane vehicle, stopping in the middle of an intersection instantly. Assumed going 18-20mph. Almost caused accidents behind me. 3)On interstate, going 75 mph in good weather, passing a vehicle estimated to be going 65mph, caused the braking system to engage hard and the tires to squeal from locking up. Vehicle nearly lost control. Software is up to date, last update was mid March 2025

While driving on the highway at approximately 60MPH, both display screens went completely blank. The A/C stopped working and radio speakers also stopped working. After about 30 seconds, the system had reset and came back on as if it was the start up sequence. I could not tell if it affected steering/braking since I was on a relatively straight road and light traffic but it was highly disconcerting that all speed/vehicle information went blank. If this had happened in denser traffic and the steering/brakes also affected, this could have caused a crash. As it was, I did not have any correlation to the current speed of the vehicle except for the previous reading. The onstar system shows no malfunctions, and there have not been any additional issues or warnings from the car before or since. The vehicle has not been looked at by manufacturer/dealership or any other entity.
NHTSA #11636969
The turn signal stalk, when self-canceling from a right turn, will drop too hard, and will turn on the left turn signal after the turn, causing confusion to not only the vehicle operator, but other drivers on the road. This has happened on multiple occasions.

I was driving at a speed of 15/20mph on the snowy road with the AWD activated, suddenly the car lost control and started going from one side to the other, crashing several times against the sidewalk, covered in ice. The fear that caused me was horrible, to take it back was very difficult, the car had no control even at 10 mph. The application diagnostic indicated Antilock Braking System and StabiliTrak Stability Control System. I do not feel safe in this 2024 Equinox RS

This was new vehicle in the dealer parking lot with 215 miles on it. I took it for a test drive with the sales person in the city next to me on the passenger seat.I was on the interstate with adaptive cruise control on. When the electric breaks failed and all kinds of information popped up on the screen. The display screen toggled between, "Brake System Failure - 62 MPH Top Speed" and "Service ESC". Fortunately, interstate was not too crowded. I could sense that it took a great deal of effort effort to slow down the vehicle. So luckily there was an exit coming soon. So exited the interstate and found a shopping center parking lot. Was able to slow slowly pull into the parking lot And pull into a spot with great difficulty. Turn the car off and turn the car back on and the arrow is disappeared, and the car began to function normally.

Between XXX, a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox RS experienced repeated sudden loss of engine power, throttle control, and steering control at highway speeds. Fuel management system, turbocharger, and catalytic converter failed repeatedly. GM-authorized dealer confirmed defects on multiple warranty repair orders. Breakdown 1: Nov 2024, interstate, rain, nighttime. Vehicle lost power and steering surrounded by semi-trucks on three sides with a ditch on the right. Towed to GM dealer. Breakdown 2: Dec 2024, [XXX], 2 miles from home. Same failure. Semi on driver side, vehicles fast approaching from rear, ditch on right. Crawled under 35 mph for 5 miles to next exit. GM OnStar app confirmed Engine/Transmission and Emissions System warnings. Independent scan confirmed P0299, P0171, P00C6. Check Engine FAIL, Emission Ready NO. Breakdown 3: XXX, [XXX] , 1 AM, winter storm. Same failure. Driver stranded. Sustained burns from superheated hood mechanism and fall injuries on wet pavement. Dealer confirmed turbocharger damage, blocked catalytic converter, and fuel rail pressure failures across multiple visits. On fourth repair attempt, dealer technician documented a component from a prior repair had fallen out and was not caught, directly causing the next breakdown. GM Technical Assistance Center was engaged. Same fault codes recurred across all four repair attempts. MyChevrolet app diagnostics, independent AutoZone scans, and dealer warranty repair orders confirm the recurring defect pattern. Vehicle was repossessed by lender in June 2025 following loan delinquency caused directly by extended repair periods and income loss from recurring defects. Vehicle no longer in owner's possession. I had previously activated ACC to use on the highway with the speed set at 65mph. After getting off and driving into a parking lot I accidentally bumped the resume toggle on the steering wheel and the car started to accelerate requiring me to intervene. Luckily there were no vehicles or pedestrians in front of me at the time so I was able to regain control. The owners manual has this information. "To begin using ACC again, press +RES up briefly. If the vehicle is moving more than 5 km/h (3 mph), it returns to the previous set speed." 3 mph activation speed seems problematic for low speed situations described above.

There is a terrible glare on the window from the dashboard that makes it harder to see the road. The automatic lane change for SuperCruise is overly sensitive and has made me miss exits before by changing lanes unnecessarily. When in single pedal driving mode it will brake unnecessarily while in cruise control

After engaging the right turn signal and turning the wheel in that direction, then turning it back to the center for some reason makes the left turn signal click on for three clicks. The frontal collision warning system is way too sensitive when creeping up to stopped traffic it will beep when there is no risk of collision. And finally the blindspot detection sometimes warns the driver even when there's traffic coming from the opposite direction on the road when there's no risk of collision.
