The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
A message came on the screen saying “engine maintenance required” and it’s not going away. Upon doing a google search, there is a common failure in the cooling system for these cars reported by a lot of owners.

Engine coolant bypass valve
NHTSA #11707273
I have experienced a message saying 'Engine Maintenance Required' and after experiencing the same instances as many people have online, it seems the engine coolant bypass valve is faulty and needs to be replaced. No code can be read using a code reader either.

Coolant Bypass Valve
NHTSA #11673798
On June 19, 2025, I was driving and out of nowhere, there was a warning notification that said "A warning light was turned on. Would you like to call an operator?" On the digital cluster, there was a message that said "Engine Maintenance Required - Visit Your Dealer. Mileage noted down was 79,632. I asked around for some insight and people are telling me it's the water/coolant bypass valve that's leaking and the Op code is 24TE04R1. Will this be a covered service?
NHTSA #11668609
The engine maintenance required message appeared on the dash. I was travel from work to home (about 40 miles). I pulled over immediately at a store, left my car and walked over a mile to the mechanic shop down the road (in 95° weather with a knee that has been through 3 surgeries in less than 5 years). The gentleman took me back to my car. Followed me as i took my car back to the repair shop since it was close and did not have any lights on the dash and I was not overheating. He plugged a reader in it and the error was a coolant bypass valve issue (i can't remember the exact verbage). I purchased a replacement valve 6-17-25, along with toyota coolant. I am having to wait and save up the money to have the valve replaced at the shop got the message code from. I can not afford the dealerships cost to replace the valve. The valve and coolant was expensive in itself. I have read many forums and blogs. Toyota knew there was an issue and I am requesting my reimbursement for the cost of replacing a part you knew was faulty.

Flow Shut-off Valve Coolant Leak
NHTSA #11665916
I have an error that appeared displaying “Engine Maintenance Required” after some investigation snd research, I have noticed that this is a common issue associated with the OEM Engine Coolant Bypass Valve. This occurred as I was driving home from work when I was driving down the freeway, I did not run into any obstacles or have an accident, it appeared out of thin air.
NHTSA #11662682
unknown. i know that my car was doing fine and then randomly the coolant was low and my car was overheating on my way to work. i have yet to get it fixed, as i dont know how much it could cost me. but i read that 2020-2021 toyota makes were having issues with their coolant.
NHTSA #11661991
Car is currently at 56k miles and the "Engine maintenance required" popped up on my dashboard I'm pretty sure this is the engine coolant bypass valve which I read is a constant problem for new toyotas like mine
NHTSA #11656924
I received a "voluntary Customer Support Program" letter from Toyota saying that a small engine coolant leak can occur that "can allow coolant to drip on other parts of the vehicle. This can cause 'Engine Maintenance Required' to be displayed or cause the A/C not to function normally." Then it concludes that repair with a new "flow shut-off valve" will fix the problem, "under the terms of this Customer Support Program." I thought this was a recall and took my car in only to find that they wanted nearly $700 for the repair, because I did not have an extended warranty. When asked whether this could cause a safety problem if unfixed the reply from the Service Advisor was yes -- the coolant leak could potentially cause the engine to seize up on the highway. I was shocked that a defective part in the car I purchased new for $20,000 plus would not be replaced free of charge. I have put less than 16,000 miles on the car and now I find the resale value is essentially zero. And I now may be driving a potentially risky vehicle that could crash or leave me stranded somewhere. I feel there should be a repair at no charge.

I own a 2020 Toyota Corolla, and without any prior warning, the “Engine Maintenance Required” message appeared on my dashboard at approximately 79,575 miles. There were no unusual symptoms—no overheating, strange noises, or performance issues—before the light turned on. I had my vehicle inspected by Golling Toyota of Warren, where they diagnosed the issue as a faulty Engine Coolant Bypass Valve. I was informed that the valve needed to be replaced and flushed. The total cost of the repair was $932.21, which I had to pay out of pocket. Because the message specifically said “Engine Maintenance Required,” I was concerned that it could be a serious engine issue. Out of caution, I avoided driving the vehicle until it was inspected, as I didn’t know whether it could result in engine damage, performance failure, or a sudden breakdown while on the road. The fear of an unknown engine-related malfunction created a genuine safety concern for me and others —especially since the warning came without any prior symptoms. I later learned that the problem was tied to the Engine Coolant Bypass Valve, which is known to fail prematurely in Toyota vehicles. This failure can affect engine performance and temperature regulation, increasing the risk of engine damage or failure while driving. There is already a class-action lawsuit concerning this issue, yet Toyota has not issued a recall. Owners like myself are being left to pay out of pocket for a known defect that poses real safety risks. I’m submitting this complaint in hopes that Toyota will be held accountable and that the NHTSA will take appropriate action to protect consumers from this recurring and potentially dangerous defect.
NHTSA #11652732
“Engine maintenance required” alert received, related to a faulty coolant bypass valve which will need replacement. Vehicle is currently at 51,049 miles. Alert message can’t be dismissed from the dashboard. It obstructs a significant portion of the speedometer.

Engine Maintenance Required displays see dealer displays in Panel. I have taken to my local shop Engine coolant bypass valve replaced. Still having same issue.
NHTSA #11646807
Valve matic is messed up. According to my research this is a known issue with 2020 Toyota corollas.
NHTSA #11640312
Vehicle maintenance light won’t turn off, stays off if car started with AC off but comes on and stays on while AC is running. Coolant overflow valve malfunction
NHTSA #11638624
There was a maintenance required notice on my dashboard and I searched up that it was my coolant bypass valve having an issue. Apparently it’s a defective part in Toyota Corolla and rav4 models from 2019-2023 I believe. The notice would come on and off each time I would start the vehicle. The dealership has confirmed this issue is common and after having it inspected and diagnosed, it was indeed the coolant bypass valve. My safety and the safety of others were fine, my engine would’ve been the unfortunate casualty if I did not take care of this.

Vehicle was brought to Toyota because of "Engine Maintenance Required" message. We initially thought it was "Maintenance Required" so husband said we may need to change the oil, but it was only a few thousand miles since last oil change. I tried to remove the message but the Toyota Manual did not have any instructions on the "Engine Maintenance Required" message removal. When he left Toyota after changing oil, same message was on dashboard. Husband went back to Toyota and asked them to remove the "Engine Maintenance Required" and was told that there is a coolant bypass valve that must be changed in order for the message to go away. The cost should be around $1,000 and then proceeded to tell him he needed to buy new tires as well. All would total about $2,800. Vehicle has 58K miles and we are afraid to drive the vehicle now until we know what is actually wrong with it. It's suspicious to read all the complaints describing the same situation we have with Toyota. By the way, after we were told about the needed repair, I started getting emails from Toyota about purchasing a Toyota warranty, advertisements in the mail from car warranty companies and phone calls from Toyota salespeople to come and buy/lease a new Corolla and I would get a "great deal"! Is this some scam to generate business? Are Toyota owners being subjected to a "bait and switch" scam? I would like an investigation initiated by your agency. My vehicle is available upon request and our safety is at risk because we truly don't know what is wrong with it and afraid to drive it any longer. If your agency wants to read complaints from other owners, I direct you to read the complaints on [XXX] or Google "Toyota Engine Maintenance Repair" message. It's very much an eye-opener about fraud being perpetrated by Toyota. I can provide any documentation needed when I am personally contacted and requested to furnish them. My 2020 toyota corolla's warning light which stated "engine maintenance required visit your dealer" came on. When I called the dealership they stated I would need to come in and hook it up to diagnose the problem which would cose me $185 + taxes and fees. Then once diagnosed they would be able to fix the problem. I checked with O'Reilly's autopart store and Autozone which both of their scanners found nothing wrong. So I informed Toyota and they stated they I need to bring it to them because their scanner/tool is the one which will tell us what the problem is specific to my car. But they stated they think it could be a hose related to my coolant system to prevent my car from overheating. They stated to watch the temperature gauge while driving as it may overheat and become dangerous to drive. If this happens or I see any smoke pull over and get out if the car. However they haven't seen anyone have to do this so they think I should be fine but I should fix this problem soon. I asked if that is the problem would it fall under my mechanical breakdown insurance coverage and the dealership stated that if that's the problem yes but if I go through the insurance it will take a really long time to fix because they'd have to file a claim and get paid before doing any repairs. Then they said I'd have to pay the copay and any difference. I was confused as my insurance states I only have to pay my copay. However, I had someone else with a scanner/tool hook theirs up and to see if we could check the actual problem and it did say the error code P268115 engine bypass coolant valve. So, this was the issue. I viewed online that there is a class action lawsuit going on right now for this same problem with 2019-2023 Toyota Rav 4 and Corolla's. Toyota failed to disclose this information to it's consumers and it is not being covered under the power train warranty either. This safety issue with cars overheating is dangerous and costly.

Getting engine maintenance required, coolant valve failed for no reason.
NHTSA #11617577
I was driving in traffic when a warning light comes on it says "engine maintenance required visit your dealer". I have looked everywhere in the manual on this message and unable to find anything no other lights are on or anything to determine the issue. Took it to get checked at autozone no codes came up all is clear. I've read online this is a known issue to replace the coolant bypass valve. Unfortunately I take my vehicle to toyota for all oil changes etc and this was not mentioned.

Engine coolant Bypass Valve issue
NHTSA #11609057
Faulty coolant bypass valve needing repair. Manufacturer has open class action lawsuit. My car is also impacted.
NHTSA #11608710
coolant bypass valve is defective and failed prematurely. coolant bypass valve cracks and leaks coolant. Once coolant beings leaking, it comes into contact with the electrical connector located near the valve. The coolant corrodes and damages the connector, which eventually causes connector to malfunction. This causes the coolant bypass valve to be stuck in the “open” or “closed” position (i.e. it no longer responds to the needs of the engine), restricting coolant flow and allowing the engine to overheat. I had to repair the vehicle at Harvey's Autotech 521 West Sixth Street Corona, CA 92882 (951) 737-9878 at the cost of $643.91and loss of a work day.

2020 TOYOTA COOLANT BYPASS VALVE. $800 estimate to repair
NHTSA #11604593
The coolant bypass valve on my 2020 Corolla SE has started to go bad. The repairs are over $700. Apparently, this is a well known and documented issue with not just the Corolla but also the RAV-4 models. No recalls have been issues despite this being a known problem.
NHTSA #11604417
An engine maintenance required warning displayed on the car dashboard. Crown Toyota Ontario performed diagnostic inspection and detected that code P268115 - engine coolant bypass valve was defective. Based on research the P268115 - engine coolant bypass valve is a common failure to Toyota Corolla, RAV 4 and Camry by car owners for models manufactured in 2019 - 2023. Toyota Ontario advised that the defect is not covered by warranty. My corolla is a 2020 model with 77,379 mileage on it.

I had called Toyota colonial dealership in Milford CT. After briefly speaking with the service representative, he advised that it’s most likely the engine coolant bypass valve. He said that it is common with my car models. I did some extra research and found out that many others were having the same issue from only having the car for a few years.

"Engine Maintenance Required See Dealer" Message on Dash Display Engine Coolant Bypass Valve I see this incident repeated for the recent Corolla SE and RAV 4 multiple times with no recall/resolution other than Toyota customers should be prepared to spend close to $750 to fix and replace this part that only takes about 20 minutes to be replaced. This is not new to Toyota. This a rip off. A lot money was paid for the car. Went to dealer less than a year ago and purchased a 2020 SE with a $23,323 price tag. Including dealer fees, finance charges and extended warranties the total price comes to $39,000+. I feel cheated as a customer. A practically new car comes with a defective part and it is not covered by warranty?? Come on. I've trusted and recommended Toyota for years. Do you no longer stand by your company name? Need a better resolution. Please.
NHTSA #11596307
Coolant Bypass Valve seems to have an issue at 60k miles which seems to happen to many people at mileage even lower than mine sometimes! My dad had this issue on his 2021 Corolla at 50k miles.

The engine coolant bypass valve has been confirmed faulty at 47,000 due to failure to actuate. Known issues of engine coolant leaking failure have been reported.
NHTSA #11595831
"Engine Maintenance Required" sign came on, I took it to the dealership and was told it was the coolant bypass valve and it would be $800. Upon doing some research is see that this is a very common issue for 2020 Toyota Corollas. My car is still under 60,0000 so I'm surprised I need work this experience done already
NHTSA #11592976
engine maintenance required notification popping up. told i needed to replace engine coolant bypass valve. safety is at risk because the notification blocks my speedometer . dealer has confirmed that the engine bypass valve needs to be replaced and this happens with all toyotas around 40k miles. has been inspected by dealership. notification popped up on my car about two weeks ago.

Coolant bypass valve malfunction, leaking coolant, engine maintenance required sign pops up on dash around 60k miles
NHTSA #11603302
I keep getting a warning sign on my dashboard stating that "Engine maintenance required. Call your dealership". After scanning for codes, I get the code P2681, or that the Engine coolant bypass valve is faulty. After looking online it appears that this is a common issue with this car model. There is a class action lawsuit for this right now since the part is known to be faulty and can crack and leak engine coolant. Toyota has refused to issue a recall for this and will charge you to replace this faulty hardware. I also am not able to clear the message while driving and it will constantly pop back up distracting me while driving and making me unable to see any important warning on my dashboard. This is endangering my ability to safely drive my vehicle.
NHTSA #11634457
The coolant bypass valve was constructed of poor quality plastic, and has cracked at a mere 50,000 miles. It's Leaking coolant into the sensor. Along with potentially causing major damage to the engine.
NHTSA #11589793
There is a problem with the bypass control heater valve of my car Corolla Toyota 2020 It says i have to replace it but it's still running good. I research what this part is about and it says that this is a malfunction in all the Toyota Corollas and RAV4 2019-2021. The message "engine maintenance required" doesn't go away and it doesn't let me see the mile percentage when driving. This problem has been confirmed by a mechanic who installed the tablet and run a test to see what's wrong with it. The car has not been checked by insurance because of this manufacturer malfunction. This all started happening 6 months ago and haven't found a way to replace it and dealership charges over 800 dollars for a mistake Toyota made on all Corollas line. Please help me find a solution. Thank you!
NHTSA #11625521
"Engine Maintenance Required - Visit Your Dealer" message popped up on my car's (Toyota Corolla 2020) dashboard all of a sudden and I didn't have any issues with engine before. I brought up my card to Toyota Service Center in Sunnyvale, CA and they told me that my car's coolant bypass valve has to be replaced and re-check if it's needed which is an uncertain thing and advised me not driving the car as it may damage the cooling system components or even the engine itself. All of these will cost me 911.58$ which is too much but it's not all yet. I was researching this issue on the Internet and figured out that many people who has the Corolla 2020 and 2021 had the exact same issue. I don't think it's a coincidence. People also complaining about the same issue for Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Camry. I don't want to pay so much money which is almost 1k. I never had any accidents and or crashes. Engine maintance required/coolant bypass valve issue
NHTSA #11591416
The Coolant Bypass Valve on my Toyota Corolla 2020 is faulty. An "Engine Maintance Required" code appeared a couple months ago, when the vehicle was still under 60K miles. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. A faulty coolant bypass valve can cause the engine to overheat or leak coolant, leading to potential breakdowns or accidents. It may also trigger warning lights and reduce cabin heating, creating further safety risks. Not confirmed by dealership/indepenent service center. Only confirmed by personal inspection. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by manufactuer/police/insurance representatives. "Engine Maintance Required" message appeared on digitial display of vehicle. Message does not appear when the vehcile is turned on while A/C system is left OFF, but upon turning on the A/C, the maintaince required message appears, indiciating a faulty bypass valve.

The Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Short in the vehicle has malfunctioned. This appears to be widespread issue not only in the Corolla, but in the Camry and RAV4, and appears to affect model years 2019-2024. This issue caused coolant leakage, has the potential to cause issues with the engine, and affects the A/C/Heating systems as well. There were no warning signs prior to the failure, and the car had just passed a multi point inspection 4 days prior to the failure. The problem has been reproduced by my local Toyota dealership.
NHTSA #11587551
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the check engine warning light was illuminated and flashing. The contact stated that the vehicle was not accelerating above 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a rocker arm actuator system performance failure and several other unknown failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact discovered the Technical Service Bulletin: 0098-19; however, it was not verified if the vehicle was included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

On the morning of January 7, 2026, while I was on my way to work, I experienced a dangerous incident involving my vehicle. As I arrived at the first stop on the street, I suddenly heard a loud explosion. Immediately afterward, pieces of glass began falling onto my windshield. I pulled over and exited the vehicle to assess the situation. Upon inspection, I discovered that the sunroof of my car had completely shattered. Glass was scattered across the roof, windshield, and interior of the vehicle. Prior to the explosion, there were no visible signs of damage to the sunroof. The incident occurred without warning and posed a serious safety risk. I am submitting this complaint to formally document what happened and to request that the matter be investigated and addressed appropriately.

Engine Coolant Bypass Valve
NHTSA #11660308
Coolant bypass valve. Code is P2681, part will fail and vehicle will consistently display a Engine Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer on the MID. Dealerships will try and charge 500+ to repair it when the part is under 100+. Problem started to appear since end of March. It's May 15th as of this report. Upon using an OBD tool this is the following message: "STATUS CONFIRMED / PENDING - ENGINE COOLANT BYPASS VALUVE 'A' CONTROL CIRCUIT/OPEN : CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY OR OPEN". Part has NOT been inspected by Toyota, nearby service centers are scumbags and will charge a fortunate to fix it.

Coolant bypass valve needs to be replaced
NHTSA #11643216
Engine maintenance required notification came on. Car is only 3 years old. Dealership stated that the coolant bypass valve needs to be replaced and it could potentially cause a fire. Service professional at the dealership stated that this is a common issue and most of the time Toyota warranty doesn’t want to repair it, also said that it should be recalled. I have also seen hundreds of people complain about this on Rav4 forums.
NHTSA #11626281
I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla. "Engine Maintenance Required; Visit Your Dealer" came on the display after I brought my car to the dealership. I returned to the dealership and was told it was $250 to diagnose the problem. I waited a month later and brought my car back for an 80,000 inspection at the Longo Toyota in Prosper Texas. They diagnosed the problem this time and said they would have to replace the Coolant Bypass Valve and Hose for ~$800 plus labor costs. The risk of not repairing these parts is possible engine failure or fire. I've seen many other discussion forums where people are experiencing the same problem with Rav4, Corolla, and Camry models 2020-2023. These parts are not covered under warranty and would have to pay out of pocket for the repairs. Toyota should issue a recall since many people are reporting these same issues, creating out-of-pocket costs for the repairs for >$800.

The coolant valve in the engine began malfunctioning and leaking next the the battery. I took it to the dealership and they said that this was a common maintenance issue, but it is do to the part being faulty overall. This is a widespread issue with this make and model of the vehicle and the part has not been recalled. Leakage could possibly cause the engine to overheat and the result could be catastrophic.

My son and daughter in law moved from California to Georgia due to military duties in Hinesville Georgia. They drove their 2020 Toyota Corolla from California to Georgia. They paid the fee to obtain their 2024 registration sticker but got denied by the DMV in California due to a recall on this vehicle. My son took the vehicle to Chatham Parkway Toyota in Savannah Georgia to fix the recall. He received documentation that the recall has been fixed. My daughter in law took this documentation to the DMV and they said it was not sufficient, we needed to provide the original pink copy of the recall. Chatman Parkway Toyota never gave my son the original copy. Where can we obtain this so we can receive our registration sticker? Can you please help us out and contact Chatham Parkway Toyota to see if they even fixed the recall problem or not and why they did not give my son an original copy of the fixed recall situation. "On 04/09/26, I took my vehicle for regular maintenance and an oil change; no potential issues were reported. I operated the vehicle in good faith, trusting its safety. However, on Sunday, 05/03/2026, while driving at highway speeds, the clutch pedal failed and [stuck to the floor / slipped severely]. This caused an immediate loss of power to the wheels in high-speed traffic, creating a life-threatening situation and a high risk of a rear-end collision. No warning lights appeared prior to this failure."
NHTSA #11737720
The clutch slave cylinder failed at 48,000 miles. On the freeway, I had difficulty shifting into gear and I had cars passing me at high speeds, putting my life and others' lives at risk. This part defect is due to the plastic clutch slave cylinder failing. This common issue is well-documented by numerous other owners, with the part failing before the routine clutch maintenance cycle. My car was inspected by an independent mechanic, who said the lack of clutch pressure is due to the clutch slave cylinder failing. The worst part is that there were no warning lamps or messages before this happened. Toyota is claiming there is no recalls for this part, whic his astounding because the clutch is essential for the 6speed transmission.
NHTSA #11719864
Clutch Slave Cylinder at 51,000 miles failed causing vehicle clutch to not return and loss of fluid. Brake fluid and clutch fluid are used in the same reservoir and could cause issues causing vehicle to not be able to stop. Vehicle has been inspected by shop and has been replicated. The part exploded and leaks fluid inside of transmission housing. This also causes the clutch to fail as-well. Vehicle has always been serviced and maintained and this is a common issue with all vehicles that have 6 speed manual transmission with varying mileage. It is not a matter of if, it’s when and due to this being something that happens with generally no warning signs can be dangerous. There needs to be an updated part that can handle the design Toyota chose for this transmission.
NHTSA #11704423
FAULTY HYDRAULICS IN THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. FAULTY SLAVE CYLINDER LEAKING FLUID AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING VEHICLE TO BECOME "STUCK" IN GEAR WHILE DRIVING OR UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WHILE PARKED. NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE WITH THESE MODELS.
NHTSA #11701983
At 97,000 miles, the slave cylinder in my vehicle blew. My clutch pedal had stuck to the floor, and my brakes became harder and harder to press down because the clutch takes from the brake fluid reservoir. Brake fluid began to leak from the transmission, and it had to be towed in. If I hadn't come to a stop, I could have gotten in a horrible accident.

The "Engine Maintenance Required" message on a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE keep coming on after I have reset numerous time. The "Engine Maintenance Required" message on a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE typically indicates a problem with the coolant bypass valve, not the regular maintenance schedule. Approximately one month ago the clutch pedal on my manual 2020 Corolla went all the way to the floor and stuck in place. Had it towed to my mechanics shop and it took them nearly 2 weeks just to get a slave cylinder to replace the defective part with. Fast-forward a week later and exactly the same thing happened. I am experiencing a recurring issue with the Data Communication Module (DCM) in my 2020 Toyota Corolla. This component was previously subject to a recall, which I addressed at a dealership. However, the problem persists, and many other Toyota owners, including those with RAV4 models, are reporting similar issues. Discussions on forums such as Toyota Nation and Toyota Owners Club highlight these ongoing concerns. My vehicle is out of warranty, and replacing the DCM is estimated to cost over $800. I have confirmed that the issue lies with the DCM system, as removing the corresponding fuse eliminates the error message on the multimedia system. However, this circuit also powers the right speaker and microphone, making it impractical to simply disconnect the module. The local dealership has quoted $205 for diagnostics, despite my prior identification of the problem. Revisiting the original dealership where the recall work was performed is not feasible, as it is located across the country. Toyota has not offered a remedy, leaving me without an affordable or practical solution to address what appears to be a manufacturer fault. I am seeking assistance and accountability for this persistent and widespread issue. The vehicle flashes ‘connected device is not compatible’ with the ‘SOS button flashing continuously red then green.’ This message causes the microphone to remove 1 to 3 seconds of sound every 5 to 15 seconds making a clicking noise when speaking on vehicles Bluetooth. This is typically corrected by a DCM reset and firmware update. Not only is this incredibly inconvenient during normal conversation but having to repeat random portions of the conversation is irritating at best. Recently I had to make a 911 call and had to repeat myself several times to request emergency services. This glitch caused the emergency 30 second call to be extended roughly 1 1/2 to 3 minutes delaying response time. If the clicking occurs while the other person is speaking this is not noticeable. This is an identified issue only covered under basic warranty with specific TSB correction. This defect causes portions of vehicle occupants conversation to be removed and replaced with a clicking noise.

Vehicle would not start. After the vehicle's battery was jumped, the vehicle would start, but upon moving the vehicle, the dashboard message read, "Engine Stopped - Steering Power Low." There are numerous entries in online forums of others looking for solution for the same issue. Sometimes others have said that this occurred while in stop-and-go traffic on the highway or idling at a red light. Clearly, if a vehicle becomes disabled on a roadway with no prior warning of a failing battery, that is a safety issue. There was no warning of a failing battery. Battery was replaced, which was a surprise for a 2020 vehicle. However, this issue has occurred in newer vehicles as well if you review the comments in the online forums. Failed battery was tested and measured 67CCA/295CCA @11.44V. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Windshield Wiper Intermittent setting stopped working, and wipers no long return to their home position. This appears to be a common issue with Toyota. When driving in the rain, the wipers will freeze in the up setting, which is very dangerous for it to occur during heavy rain on the highway causing visibility issues. I took vehicle to Toyota dealership for diagnostic testing. Conclusion: coolant bypass valve faulty causing leaks (this can cause overheating, stalling, increased emissions, and total engine failure and also allows coolant to leak into and damage surrounding engine components, including a vehicle's electrical system, the complaint relays). I am having a problem with my 2020 Toyota Corolla's brakes. I live in [XXX] . In the winter when the car is cold the brakes work normally. When the car has been driven for a while, the car has warmed up, and the brake fluid has thinned, the brakes behave abnormally. When I stop at a red light, after 20 to 40 seconds, the brake pedal slowly drops towards the floor. My understanding is that this could indicate a problem with the master brake cylinder. My fear is that there could be a sudden failure of the cylinder causing an accident. I brought the car to Rudy Luther Toyota in Golden Valley. When I brought the car in, it was warm and the brakes were malfunctioning. People had to get out of their vehicles and help me push it out of the roadway. After 10 minutes the vehicle started and drove normally without any issues. The battery and alternator tested good. when I use blinker windshield wipers turn on and sometimes when I call or somebody calls my cell phone I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. does not happen all the time, but I was concerned since there was a recall on certain toyota corolla that says a short circuit may develop in the OCS sensor, preventing front passenger air bag from deploying and my son who is a mechanic said both of these could be a problem with the wiring in the column and I thought it may be connected to the same recall as the air bags? the wipers coming on is happening more often these days and that is why I mentioned it to my son who is a mechanic. he will not touch it since it is still under my extended protection but he is concerned about it getting worse since the blinker is attached to the column. as far as using not being heard by callers or when I call I am concerned if I need to call in an emergency the ones I call cannot hear me. as far as when this started I do not remember but I know it's been at least 6 months if not longer, it just seems to be doing it more often lately

Fuel pump system failure causing vehicle warning lights to come on and not turn off, affecting vehicle performance for going up hill as well as vehicle completely shutting off in middle of road . Major safety hazard
NHTSA #11668991
The automatic emergency breaking and forward collision warning failed to alert and turn on and I wrecked into an object. My life was put at risk and I wrecked my car. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the independent service center. The vehicle is currently being inspected by insurance estimator. There was no other alerts or messages to alert prior to collision.
Allegedly reported: 2 injuries (as reported to NHTSA). NHTSA #11661160
after shortly pumping gas, I received a alert on my car that I needed to check my fuel cap, after checking fuel cap I proceeded to drive on the highway during this time a multitude of sensors started to go off on my car, and it started to drive weird there were light such as my interlock, being deactivated, parking, brake, deactivated, malfunction of VSC, collision deactivated. Then suddenly while driving at an accelerated speed, and trying to slow down, my engine turned itself off, and I was not able to re-crank my car. There is an active recall with Toyota for the fuel pump, which I was told by Toyota was the issue, but due to my VIN not being associated they would not repair as a recall

Beginning on April 18, 2025, my 2020 Toyota Corolla LE began experiencing repeated failures involving multiple safety systems while driving. Without warning, several lights illuminate at the same time, including: Brake System Malfunction, Pre-Collision System, Parking Brake System, Vehicle Stability Control, Check Engine, and Secondary Collision Brake System. These warnings appear suddenly during normal driving, then sometimes disappear, then return again unpredictably. These failures disable several integrated safety systems and create a serious safety risk due to changes in braking performance, loss of stability control, and disabled collision-avoidance functions. Diagnostic scans from both the dealership and an independent mechanic repeatedly show: P1578 — Brake System Malfunction P265B — Rocker Arm Actuator Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1) Both codes reappear even after being cleared. The vehicle was with Loving Toyota Lufkin, TX multiple times over seven months. They received over $7,100 in insurance payments for repairs, $463 towing cost (due to the negligence of Loving Toyota) and almost $1,500 in rental cars (Paid by State Farm) but were unable to diagnose or fix the underlying failure. Loving Toyota also provided a courtesy rental for 7+ weeks while they did no repairs to the car. The safety warnings continue to occur. Toyota Corporate is now involved but the vehicle remains unsafe to drive. The same code P265B is present that was present back in April 2025. This car is not safe! The problem has been reproduced by me, the dealership, and an independent shop. The vehicle is available for inspection. All scans, photos, videos, and documentation are available upon request. Date first occurred: April 18, 2025 Issue continues intermittently to present day

Front is very low. Right side is tilted without anyone inside. Very unusual tire wear on inside edges of both front tires. Immediately after starting the engine the front ricked side took side and made loud noises.

My car is at around 42,000 miles and has had an engine maintenance light on. I take it in and it’s a defective coolant bypass valve issue. The dealership tried to charge me 800 dollars to replace it. It’s an apparent fault on their part since it has been an apparent problem with other toyota corollas with a lawsuit already filed.

All FOUR Goodyear Exhilarate tires cracked and separated from the sidewall on the interior side of the tire. i have one of the four tired saved and available for inspection. With the tire separating at the bead and sidewall on the interior side completely away from the butyl liner inside of the tire, it was a mere miracle that the car actually made it to the repair shop without blowing out, causing an accident which could have been a fatality or at least a very bad accident. The tires were taken to a Goodyear service center and after talking with corporate said it was nothing they could do and sent me on my way. By chance the car was going on a trip and wanted to get the tires rotated and the oil changed beforehand , had he not chosen to do such the outcome could've been terrible. There wasn't any warning of tire failure or loss of air due to the separation. Again, it was only by chance that this was caught and ALL FOUR tires replaced . The tire dealer stated that he hasn't ever seen ALL FOUR completely separate at the exact same location all the way around the tire. It is without a doubt a manufacturing error , old /burnt rubber used in the tire making process.

At 55K miles for my 2020 Toyota Corolla, the Engine Maintenance Required notification popped up on my screen and is not removable. Upon further verification numerous 2020-2021 corollas have been having this issue at similar amounts of mileage. It is a faulty Engine Coolant Bypass Valve that needs to be replaced. If I were to take it in to a dealership, they would charge $500+ just as they have for many others when it should really be a recall. As of now I have not taken it to be inspected due to fear of steep labor costs. My safety is at risk because if this does not get replaced my engine will overheat causing total failure of the car, and as a 2020 model with such low mileage, this is ridiculous.

At 4 years and 1/2 old car 2020 Corolla XSE an Engine Maintenance Required SEE DEALER light turned on. Did diagnostic with OBD 2 scanner at two locations auto body shop and Uto zone. Nothing appears. It is in fact a NEEDED future recall since thousands if not more people have encountered the same. It is a Coolant By Pass Valve. Cost is only $99.53 + tax at dealer. Problem is that should be under warranty or extended warranty or recall. Dealer likes to charge $800 (180-200 for diagnostic, $110 part, $400 labor. Part only takes 30 minutes to install. I should be able to buy at dealer for $110 and have them install for free or pay 30 minutes of work time = $85. 1 hour is about $175. So instead of trying to be billed $800 I should only be billed for $85 labor (30 minutes) + $110 part = Brand total of $105 USD. My daughter [XXX] and I, [XXX] (dad) bought the car at Longo Toyota El Monte, CA 91731. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
