The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
I am currently continuing to make monthly payments of $735 on this vehicle while it remains inoperable due to a manufacturer parts backorder. Since 04/01/2026, I have not had use of the vehicle, yet I remain financially responsible for it without a clear timeline for repair completion or alternative support. My vehicle has been inoperable since 04/01/2026 due to failure of a hybrid battery system. The required replacement part is on indefinite backorder with no estimated availability date provided by the manufacturer or dealer. Despite multiple escalation attempts through Ram Customer Care and assigned case management, there is no confirmed timeline for repair completion. The vehicle remains unusable while payments continue. This raises concern regarding manufacturer parts availability for essential hybrid system components and prolonged vehicle downtime without resolution. My 2019 ram 1500 started showing an intermittent warning light on the dash that said check check trailer brake, although I was not towing anything. I continued on my 20 minute commute and parked the vehicle to which point I noticed smoke towards the back of the vehicle. I inspected to see a small fire that apparently had started at the trailer tow module that had shorted and ignited the insulation and surrounding plastics. I was able to extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the truck, mainly the plastic paneling and the wiring and associated components were damaged. I'm reporting this because a vehicle fire is a significant safety concern and I'm probably not the first to have had this happen. I have made no aftermarket adjustments to my towing system and I've only owned the vehicle approximately over a year. The vehicle has about 83,000 miles on it currently.

December 26, 2025, while driving, the vehicle shut down, and it went into park. After researching the cause of the issue, the RF module had water in it. Additional research indicates the third brake light leaks into the cabin causing water to enter the module causing corrosion and a short. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for repair. Dealer indicated the RF module did fail. They also stated it may be caused by a leaking rear window. The service writer stated they would cover the brake light issue but not the rear window if it caused the problem. Water into the cabin by either area is obviously an electrical problem but also a fire hazard. Any water into a wire harness or component has the potential to short and cause a fire. Before the shutdown, the right front and left rear tire pressure sensors were coming on and off at times. The remote start became non-functional at times.

Purchased vehicle used in 2024 and purchased a 3 year extended bumper to bumper warranty. The center screen was restarting every 3 minutes and was draining my battery down to being completely dead when it was not running. On 12/15/2025 I brought the truck to a Ram dealer with the problem and it was diagnosed by the dealer (Sansone Auto Mall) as needing to replace the entire radio/HVAC center stack, and it was the cause of the parasitic drain on the battery. The work was approved by my warranty and the parts were ordered. It has been 11 weeks and the parts have not arrived and Stellantis has been unable to provide a timeframe of when the parts will arrive at the dealer to do the repairs. The truck has no defroster or heat rendering it unsafe to be driven on roads. I have had an open case with Stellantis for several weeks and call them frequently to attempt to locate the parts for my vehicle in which they are unable to provide me a delivery date and a repair timeframe.

The RFH module is defective for the year and has already been replaced by a new model. When the module goes bad it can leave you stranded because it runs the security section of the computer. The computer will not recognize the key fobs, and the car can shut off and not restart leaving you stranded. Mechanic also informed me that it could also cause issues during driving not just when you stopped. The main warning lamp is the check engine light will illuminate and will throw a code for ECU not initializing.
NHTSA #11692480
While driving a 2019 Ram I heard a winding noise then a rattling noise. I went immediately to the mechanic. He said it was my E-torque generator. He said I was lucky to get there because I could have had a complete loss of power or could have damaged other parts of the vehicle. A loss of power could be very dangerous on the highway possibly causing an accident or leaving me on the side of the highway exposing me to traffic driving by at 70mph+. The mechanic cannot get the replacement from RAM. Ram is not making them right now. There are over 5000 on back order. That means there are over 5000 people making payments on a work truck they can't use. Some people have been waiting for nearly a year.

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and turned off the vehicle. While attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to immediately restart, and several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The vehicle then returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact was informed that the failure had been referred to an engineer with the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
NHTSA #11679965
The MGU (motor generator Unit) is failing. Appears to be a known issue with Chrysler. Problem is that this part is not available. Was told that there are over 3,000 backordered parts with no eta. The dealer said that they had several on backorder from May. This is a 2019 product and there is no reason that this part should not be available.
NHTSA #11681039
Water leaked into the cab from faulty rear window frame and damaged a key electical component. This component is clled RF module and controls the Ignition, locks, remote operations from the fobik. Imobilizing the vehicle, recall covers the Backlite rear window leak but not the damage caused, leaving vehicles stranded and imobilized. The repair by dealer is almost $2000.00.
NHTSA #11721702
At about 77k miles, I started hearing a humming noise from the engine when I would accelerate and then decelerate. Upon inspection and confirmation from Ram dealership, the Engine Generator Kit (alternator) appeared to have a bad bearing and needed to be replaced. I initially agreed to the replacement until I was told that the part needed is on backorder and that there were roughly 4k orders placed ahead of mine nationally. This means I have no way of fixing this issue using an original MOPAR part. I was told I can agree to pay for the item to get the order placed and then wait until it comes in with no timeframe given other than it could be weeks or months. I am now having to drive around in a vehicle that could potentially breakdown at any time and thus leaving me with no vehicle. I do not have any warning lights on the dash but it seems like I am driving a ticking timebomb.
NHTSA #11679795
LCD screen in instrument cluster does not power on, stays black, and does not show relevant driving, safety, or error messages.
NHTSA #11682591
Mopar Part # 68623194AB Generator on a national backorder. There is a problem with this part and MOPAR cannot fix the issue - ETA is non existent - Truck has been parked since July 4. Making payments on a truck that is not functioning. The vehicle shut down completely on I-95. Had to have it towed to my home.
NHTSA #11679833
I was at a stop light and I got a warning light and a check engine light that said service shifter. After that, it wouldn’t shift gears and I was stuck in 1st gear. I pulled over and got a service tire pressure light, 4WD temporary unavailable light, service airbag light, ESC light, parking light. I bought a new battery from the Chrysler dealership in February of 2023 that started going bad in May of 2025. It is under warranty until February 2026. On May 28th 2025, I was attending a canine seminar out of town. At the end of the day, I went to start the truck & the battery was dead. I was able to get a jump start & immediately took it to a local retailer to have the starter, alternator & battery checked. The battery had Indications of going bad, the alternator & starter passed the tests. I purchased a mobile jump starter to make sure I wouldn't be left stranded somewhere. When I returned home, I scheduled an appointment at the dealership to have them replace it. The dealership kept it overnight & said their diagnostic machines did not give the code that allowed them to replace the battery under warranty. I was getting ready drive to Indiana from Florida & wanted to make sure it would be safe.I then drove to Texas after that, then back home, about 1200 miles each leg. When I went to leave to Maine a couple weeks later, the truck would not start. I was able to use a jump starter to get it going. When I got to Maine, I scheduled an appointment at the local dealership to have them check it. They ran the same tests & said they could not get the code to replace the battery under warranty. It became increasingly difficult to start the truck & even got to the point where I couldn't use a mobile jump starter to start it. When I returned from Maine, I made an appointment with a reliable mechanic who said the battery was swollen & leaking acid. He said it was ready to explode, potentially catching the engine compartment on fire. At that point I contacted the dealer again, and they said that yes, with acid leaking & the battery swollen, they could replace the battery under warranty. It should never have gotten to the point where the battery had to be leaking acid to get it changed out under warranty, the testing the dealerships do does not properly identify bad batteries. I took my truck into my mechanic for a loud whining noise coming from my engine bay. I was told my alternator is going out. I have a 2019 ram 1500 5.7L v8 with the e-torque system. Part number 68438054AB or 68623194AB. This part you can literally buy from no one. Not a dodge dealership, mopar or any other website. There is about 1 listing I saw for a used one which was $1000 over what a new one would cost. If this part goes out I’m fully unable to use my truck which has 56,000 miles and is my only means of transportation. I have absolutely no chance of buying this part from anyone or anywhere at this current time. I can barely afford to buy the part even if it was available and I surely can’t afford to pay for a rental car or another car in the time it would take for this part to become available (if it does). From reading online and hearing what the Dodge dealership told me there is about 4,000+ people waiting for this same part. I still am paying a loan for this truck and I am at a loss on what to do. Insurance won’t do anything, dealership won’t do anything, and my bank won’t do anything.
NHTSA #11660783
My 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie truck started throwing a check engine light recently while also occasionally being put into "battery saver mode". I went to the dealership to have it checked. The issue is a malfunctioning alternator / generator unit (Mobile Generator Unit) which is a key component of the eTorque system. The dealer said the repair protocol is to replace the MGU. The problem is that there are literally no parts available in the US with no known ETA. The best approximation is 6 months or more. The waitlist is literally more than 3,000 customers. There is clearly a problem with the part and it seems like they aren't currently producing any more which is growing the problem. So, I'm now left with a very bad option - continue driving the truck and risk the MGU failing at any point and causing a serious accident. I have been in a vehicle on the highway when the alternator fails and all electrical systems shut down. It was terrifying for me and my family and we were very fortunate to avoid injury. My other options are to either not drive the truck and wait (not a viable option) or be forced to sell the truck which I would rather not do since it's fully paid off and should go many more miles.

The power steering rack and pinion intermittently loses power especially at low speeds or when the vehicle is powered on. It is available for inspection upon request and has been inspected by a certified ram technician. This same issue is described in campaign number 19V812000 published by the nhtsa among other vehicles of this same make and model. There were no prior warnings or indications of the issue. [XXX] is the first time this issue presented but has become a daily occurrence and is the only mode of transportation for a family of four, consisting of two young children under the age of [XXX] . The concern is the safety of traveling with this issue may cause a crash or leave this family stranded due to the failure of the electrical components not allowing the vehicle to reset. Factory reset and software updates have been attempted, however further investigation has led to the diagnosis of internal components shorting out. The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact had read about steering recalls on the year, make, and model of the vehicle online. The contact stated that while his son was driving 40-50 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, causing the vehicle to drive up a curb and to nearly crash into a bridge post. The power steering warning light was illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was started the following day, and the power steering operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness had rotted and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that further diagnostic testing was needed. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

I was in a residential area and was able to stop as far right on the road as I could. I again turned the truck off and waited about 5 minutes and restarted the truck. The power steering worked for me to get the truck home. I took the truck to a Dodge dealership and was quoted $4100 for parts and labor. Hello my name is [XXX] , current owner of a 2019 Ram 1500 classic vin# [XXX] On 3-20-2026 As I was driving on I-10 with my family on the 3rd lane driving steady on a stop and go traffic. My vehicle lost complete power shutting down giving me little time to pull off to the left media. When I came to a full stop I immediately shift gear to parking and turned ignition key off. I proceeded to restart the engine but wouldn’t start. As I noticed a red bolt like light on the cluster no sound of any engine or click nothing at all . On the 3rd attempt the engine successfully turned on and proceeded to driving. My primary question to my concern is if there’s any possible recalls related to this issue? The truck is out of warranty. I spoke to a Ram service adviser [XXX] at [XXX] and states mopar wont cover into fixing the problem the because it’s an 7 year old vehicle and out of warranty . I would have to pay for the diagnostic of $190 . I after my research on google facts that there’s been recalls on this matter on 2019 rams . I shouldn’t be charged for a diagnosis if this a recall matter. Thank you in advance for correspondent and taking the time to read my concern. Rear power sliding window leak caused by cracked backlite
NHTSA #11723315
Incident Description: I am reporting three recurring safety hazards with my 2019 Ram 1500. 1. Intermittent ABS/ESC Error: The vehicle recently displayed an ABS error message on the dashboard. The error cleared itself after the vehicle was power-cycled (shut off and restarted). This intermittent failure of the Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Stability Control is a severe safety risk, as the system could fail during an emergency braking event. My VIN is currently excluded from Recall 24V-653, despite my vehicle exhibiting the exact symptoms described. 2. Unintended Forward Lunging: Before reaching operating temperature (cold start), the truck abruptly lunges forward while idling or under light braking. This occurs without driver input and has been reported by numerous other Ram owners as a cause for rear-end collisions. 3. "Shift into P than Desire Gear" Error: While coming to a stop, the dashboard displays "Shift into P than Desire Gear," and the transmission slips into Neutral. This causes a sudden loss of motive power in traffic. I am aware of reports where this has caused vehicles to "lock up" or stall at higher speeds. Safety Risk: The combination of an unpredictable transmission (lunging/slipping to neutral) and an intermittent ABS failure makes this vehicle unsafe to operate. The manufacturer's current recall list for the 2019 model year is clearly incomplete, as my vehicle is suffering from these documented defects but remains ineligible for a recall repair.

The issue is the MGU went out on truck. Dealer has no idea when a replacement will be available. Was told over 4100 are backordered. This appears to be an ongoing problem with these trucks for several months now. They blame supply chain issues. I feel it's on the manufacturer to readily have replacement parts. Clearly they didn't do their due diligence on this part. Something should be done to this company for the way they are treating customers. It's my only vehicle to get to and from work. As we were driving and pulling a 32 foot trailer battery died, luckily we were able to stop safety and charge battery and bought a new battery to get us home. Motor Generator Unit failed at 89,000 miles. Three dealerships that I spoke with having waiting lists of customers for this repair. Backlog on part is up to four months. It is evident that this is specifically problematic to the models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 Hemi MDS VVT eTorque Engine. Federal warranty expires at 80,000/ 8 years. Based upon the number of vehicles effected and specific to eTorque engines, seems like a recall (or reimbursement) is warranted in this case.

The dangerous behavior occurs only when the truck is in four-wheel-drive. Two behaviors: One:Low range. Ascending up a steep dirt road without warning truck shifted into neutral and got stuck there. Shifting into reverse drive or park did not take it out of neutral. The steering and brakes worked. The four-wheel-drive, low and four-wheel-drive high indicatorlights were blinking simultaneously. This behavior persisted after turning the truck off and on again. I had to back down a switchback dirt road. Eventually, I thought to disconnect the battery and reconnect it which corrected the behavior and put the truck back to normal. I no longer use this truck in four-wheel-drive low. I am having the truck looked at by a second dealer service department to try to diagnose this problem. 2: the second abnormal, behavior occurs in four-wheel-drive low, first gear heading downhill using the engine compression for braking. The truck will without warning shift into 2 Wheel Dr. high range, and the four-wheel-drive, low and four-wheel-drive high indicator lights blink simultaneously. This behavior is corrected by turning the engine off and then on again.

The vehicle will require that you shift it into park when slowing causing you to have to stop the vehicle place it in park then back into gear. This has happened regularly since about 20,000 miles on the vehicle, most often occurs in warmer weather months and it randomly occurs but at least weekly. electric controller is failing causing the power system to fail
NHTSA #11651441
The power train component, specifically the etorque alternator (MGU) has failed and verified by CDJR dealership service department. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The MGU component affects the emissions control of the vehicle and is a generator for a battery cell located in the rear of the cab. The MGU failure could cause damage to the hybrid battery system, electrical failure, and reduction of emissions control. The issue has been replicated by numerous dealerships that I have contacted as the replacement part is on a national back order (dealer representative stated over 5,000). This seems like a substantial problem known by the manufacturer and yet there isn’t a repair/replacement option for numerous consumers. There were no warning lamps alerted during the failure. The failure consists of a “whining” noise located in the engine compartment at the alternator/MGU and significant reduced fuel economy.

Airbag switch in seat was partially faulty, depending on drivers weight. Dealership pulled code and replaced the new battery with a new battery, then did the steering wheel clockspring, but the final outcome was the weight of the driver and the seat switch for the airbag. The truck is currently in the shop waiting for the seat airbag switch. I believe this to be a safety recall. The eTorq generator stopped working and the engine shutdown on the highway. I had to get a tow to the shop as the vehicle is not usable and the engine will not start. Furthermore, this part is unavailable with no-ETA as it is on nationwide backorder. I have been waiting for over a month I was told over 13000 of these are on backorder for customers around the country. I have also read many posts of others waiting months for the part. There is obviously a systemic problem with the part and an issue with replacements. It does appear the original part was superseded by a different version. Please help!

Multiple times when placing the vehicle in reverse, review view camera screen shows distorted view or 'camera system not available' and blue screen. Have taken to dealer regarding issue multiple times, issue unresolved by component replacement in kind. Have researched online, found this is a common problem with Ram DS vehicles. I Have only had this truck for 2 months. I was driving and making a turn and the electrical power steering stopped working and the steering wheel locked. I almost crashed and drove into a ditch with my whole family in the truck. Including a [XXX]. I had to slam on the breaks and barely able to keep the truck from crashing. Dashboard said " Power Steering unavailable Service Required". I turned off the truck and restarted it to see if it would fix the issue. It did not. I drove the rest of the way home going slow with the hazard lights on. Steering wheel needed to be muscled for it to make the smallest turn. I had to drive over curbs because it would have been impossible to make some of the turns needed to get home. I called Ram and reposted the incident. They did not care because my vin is not listed for the recall and that the recall is "VIN specific". I do not understand this. VIN specific means each truck would be custom made and all different. Why is my family's life being risked and not being taken seriously. Once home, I have not been back in the truck. I turned it on the next day and the alert is gone and the wheel moves again. A family of 5 is now at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The dealership told me they have multiple people waiting for the same part and that the MGU is faulty and fails on these trucks. My wife was taking my kids to school and they were stranded on the side of the road because my truck give a battery low warning and then died. SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD: CASCADING ELECTRICAL FIRE RISK. My 2019 Ram 1500 suffered a catastrophic electrical failure while driving. The alternator's voltage regulator melted, overcharging the system and causing the battery to boil and vent toxic sulfuric acid fumes into the cabin, creating an immediate respiratory and fire hazard. This is the direct result of Manufacturer Defect XL1/XG1 (Rear Window Leak). I have physical dealer records proving Westgate Ram held this vehicle for 19 days in Aug 2022 to fix Water Leak Code 09H2OLEAK. They returned the vehicle claiming it was fixed, but I have geolocated photos showing the window leaking heavily just 17 days later. Because the leak was never resolved, water continuously entered the rear cabin, corroding the RF Hub and creating a parasitic drag that destroyed the electrical grid. CRITICAL NEGLIGENCE: On June 1, 2026, Stellantis Corporate (Case XXX) acknowledged the severity of the fire risk by immediately inquiring if Emergency Services had been contacted, yet subsequently refused to offer a safety tow. When I attempted to escalate, their agents [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] ) refused to provide IDs. Furthermore, my phone number is now being rejected by their system; calls to their support line immediately fail or disconnect, leaving a fire-risk vehicle stranded at my residence with no recourse. My 2019 Ram 1500 has had a failed ABS control module for several months, which disables critical safety features including ABS, traction control, and cruise control. While entering the interstate on an on-ramp during light rain and under normal driving conditions, the loss of traction control contributed to a sudden loss of stability, causing the rear of the truck to break loose and the vehicle to spin. No other vehicles were involved, but the situation created a serious safety hazard and could have resulted in a crash. The vehicle continues to operate without these safety systems, significantly impairing safe handling and braking. I have been informed that the required replacement module is on extended backorder with no estimated availability, leaving the vehicle in an unsafe condition for an extended period of time.

Initially while taking a corner at low speed the truck made a clunk and grinding noise which resolved and then while going about 50 mph the grinding noise recurred which prompted stopping the vehicle on the side of the road and when almost to a stop, the wheels locked up causing a slight skid; the vehicle was in 4-wheel auto at the time and with change between 4wd and 2wd serveral times the front tires unlocked and i was able to drive it again. About 4 days later, while driving 70 mph, the vehicle started to make a grinding noise on the interstate, and I started to slow down, but unfortunately, I was on the left side of the highway on a narrow shoulder, and upon getting to a lower speed while in 2WD, my front axle locked up. I placed the vehicle in park, but due to safety concerns, I put the truck back in drive and tried to switch from 2WD to 4WD to unlock the axle, but unfortunately, the truck would not change gears. I then had to quickly get the vehicle to the other side during a time with fewer vehicles, while the left front tire was locked, and I had to drag it across the highway to ensure my safety. The left front tire remained locked, and after multiple attempts, the brake partially unlocked but continued to make a grinding and clunking noise. After some diagnostics, we determined the left front wheel hub was the issue, overheating and locking up. I reached out to mechanics for quotes on repair of said part, and upon reaching out to the dealer that I have used in the past for recalls and oil changes, I was informed there was a recall on said part/software that I was not aware of; the service rep used the last 8 of my VIN to look up my vehicle for the quote and provided the details about the recall. I use the RAM Guardian App which provides updates about recalls and upon checking it does not show a recall nor does it show a recall when i search my VIN and License Plate on the website. This seems to be a common issue based on customer reviews.

On March, while I was leaving to take my children to school, I discovered a loud, heavy metallic knocking sound coming from the engine of my 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. As I depressed the gas pedal, the knocking frequency increased immediately with the engine RPMs. Prior to this total failure, I had noticed the truck feeling hesitant and "stuttering" when I was trying to accelerate from red lights in the days leading up to the incident. Because I was concerned the engine would stall or fail completely while my children were in the vehicle, I immediately stopped driving it. A subsequent inspection at Don White’s CDJR confirmed DTC P051B-00 (Crankcase Pressure Sensor Performance). This fault is a recognized indicator of excessive crankcase pressure, which NHTSA has identified as a precursor to sudden engine stalling and fire risks in 3.0L EcoDiesel engines (Ref: Recall 19V-757).

First off the service shifter keeps coming on and off every time I take it to the dealership it’s off so they can’t read the code. Then the parking sensors keep coming on saying unavailable. Today when the service shifter came on, it went right back off and then when I went to turn onto the highway it felt like the truck stalled for a second then it started driving normal again and down the road. The service shifter light came back on, then went off. All recalls have been fixed on this vehicle and when I took it in and was charged $300 for a diagnostic, they couldn’t figure out what was wrong because the light wasn’t on anymore.

Manufacturing defect in the rear window frame (Backlite) causing severe water intrusion. Water is pooling directly onto the RF Hub (Radio Frequency Hub) electrical module and wiring harness. This creates a high risk of unintended vehicle shutdown while driving or a total electrical short-circuit/fire. SEE FULL COMPLAINT NOTES IN ATTACHED PDF; SUMMARY HERE (you do not provide sufficient space to provide all info you request) I own a 2019 Ram 1500 4WD Limited (not eTorque). On multiple occasions, the vehicle has unexpectedly shifted out of Drive into Neutral while driving. When this occurs, a warning chime dings and a message on display directs me to “Shift to Park”. The vehicle immediately loses forward power (because it has shifted itself to Neutral), until I come to a complete stop, shift to Park, and then shift back to Drive to move forward. Usually the engine stays on, but on at least one occasion the engine turned off and I had to restart. This has happened at least five times total, including three times within the past month. The events have occurred while decelerating to a stop, braking but not stopping, and accelerating from a slow down. Each time, I experienced a sudden and unexpected loss of propulsion, requiring me to stop the vehicle in traffic, shift fully into Park, and then reselect Drive before the vehicle would move again. These incidents have occurred in active traffic situations and have placed me and others at risk of a collision due to the sudden loss of power (SEE DETAILS IN PDF). I previously brought the vehicle to a dealer for this issue after it had just occurred (~1 year ago, before the recent increase in frequency); however, the dealer stated that the vehicle did not throw a code, or no code was stored. They could not replicate the problem and no repair was made. There are at least 55 NHTSA complaints filed that appear the same as my issue; none appear to have been resolved by dealers or RAM. This appears to be a systemic safety defect involving the powertrain and electronic shifting system. The unexpected loss of propulsion in traffic presents a serious risk of injury or death. I am submitting this complaint due to the ongoing and unresolved safety concern. I am scared to drive my family in my vehicle until it is known to be fixed.

On August 20, 2025, my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie was taken to the dealership for diagnosis after showing the warning “Electronic Stability Control system needs service,” along with a flashing check engine light. The dealer pulled diagnostic codes and documented U0403-00 (“Invalid Data Received from Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module A”) as well as other communication errors. This is the same defect covered under Stellantis’ recall for ABS module failures that disable stability control in 2019 Ram trucks. However, my VIN is not included in the recall. A few years ago, the truck experienced the same warning, but the problem cleared on its own. Now it has returned and is documented with codes in the dealer system. The dealership acknowledged other recalls were already completed on my VIN, but refuses to perform this safety recall since my VIN is not listed. ABS and ESC failures are not the result of consumer behavior. This is a faulty system created at the time of vehicle manufacturing. There has been no accident or outside damage, and nothing the owner could have done to avoid this issue. The defect lies with the vehicle’s design and creates a serious safety risk for the driver and others on the road. I believe my VIN was excluded from the recall in error and request that NHTSA investigate and expand the coverage.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The issue involved the truck’s parking and collision avoidance systems, which suddenly shut off. A warning message appeared on the dashboard stating "Service Shifter." This issue may be related to the electronic shifter module or associated control systems. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -The sudden deactivation of both the parking and collision systems while the vehicle was in motion created a serious safety hazard. Without collision avoidance functionality and the ability to securely park the vehicle, there was increased risk of unintentional vehicle movement or inability to avoid obstacles, which could have led to a crash or injury. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes, the truck was taken to an authorized dealer for assessment, and the issue was confirmed. Diagnostic tests found trouble codes starting with "U", which typically indicate a communication or control module fault within the vehicle’s network. The codes provided from the dealer are U0159, U0140, U0100, U0137, U0102, U10121, and U0101. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -The issue has been inspected and documented by the dealership. There is no indication that police or insurance representatives have inspected it at this time, but the incident and diagnostics are recorded in the dealer’s service records. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -Yes, a warning message "Service Shifter" appeared on the dashboard. This message coincided with the shutdown of the parking and collision systems. These symptoms appeared suddenly and without prior warning during regular vehicle operation.

While driving the freeway at 70 mph, the truck flashed a message to service shifter. Windshield wipers starting going on their own, all messages popped up on dashboard, and the vehicle started gradually slowing down posing a safety issue. Speedometer was going from 0-50 mph back and forth and steering wheel was hard to maneuver. I was able to get off the freeway and into the frontage safely. However, turning the vehicle was a hassle and even more so when I tried to drive in to a parking lot to get to a safer area since the truck wouldn’t respond to the gas pedal nor would the steering wheel cooperate. If I wanted to turn it left it jerked on its own to the right. Vehicle shut off on its own and wouldn’t power back on after that. I am filing a formal complaint regarding a critical safety defect in my 2019 Ram eTorque, which posed a severe risk to my pregnant wife while she was driving. The vehicle’s battery unexpectedly failed, resulting in a complete loss of power steering and all safety functions, creating a hazardous situation in the middle of the roadway that could have led to a serious accident. This defect is not isolated. My truck has been at the repair shop for over two months, as the necessary replacement part is on backorder due to over 3,000 reported vehicles affected by the same issue. The widespread nature of this defect and the unavailability of parts amplify the risk of injury or fatality to drivers and passengers. I urge the Safety Advisory Board to investigate this defect urgently, focusing on the significant safety implications and the high number of affected vehicles. Immediate action is needed to prevent potential harm.

While taking a right turn into a busy intersection, vehicle lost all power and dash lights lit up indicating to put the vehicle in park. I put the vehicle in park and attempted to restart it. The vehicle starter cranked but did not start. I was able to roll the truck back by using the manual transmission release to get out of traffic. I disconnected the battery and waited approximately 5 minutes, reconnected battery, vehicle would start momentarily then stall. Had vehicle towed to dealership where they were able to start it and found no issue.

Had my truck in for service and they found a cracked right front CV axle and carrier joint. I was told that this is a safety issue and could lead to uncontrolled steering, but then was told by two different dealers that the part is on national backorder with no time frame for availability. I was also told that this is a common issue and other RAM1500 models have had warranty repair or recalls, but none seems to be available for mine.

While driving I noticed a message that said “service electrical brake system. I took it to my local Ram dealer. They hooked up a tablet that said there was something wrong with the ABS module and it needs to be replaced. The tech then told me that there are no ABS modules available anywhere in the country, they are on back order. So here is where the complaint begins. If there are none available, that would suggest to me that an awful lot of these ABS modules have gone bad and had to be replaced I then called Ram customer service and they requested I get an order number and part number from my local Ram dealer. I did so and they had another customer service person call and when I spoke to her she said the ABS modules are unavailable because they are currently under review by their engineers. Which tells me that there is something wrong with the ABS modules. There isn’t much more of a safety hazard then not having brakes. I don’t see why a recall has not been initiated by Ram or Chrysler for these ABS modules. I am asking you to start an investigation into this problem.
