Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

TRAILER HITCHES

NHTSA #22V633000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling 2020-2022 Palisade vehicles potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a Hyundai dealership. Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.

Reported consequence: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will install a new fuse and wire extension kit, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 18, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 235.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN

NHTSA #26V034000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The side curtain air bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

Reported consequence: Improper side curtain air bag deployment increases the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install a protective film over the rear window and remove padding, as necessary free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated June 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 292. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 24, 2026.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

NHTSA #23V180000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles. The windshield wiper motor may operate intermittently or fail to operate due to snow or ice buildup on the windshield, causing the wipers to fail.

Reported consequence: Windshield wiper failure can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver-side windshield wiper arm, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 15, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 243. This recall is an expansion of recall number 22V-627.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

NHTSA #22V353000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022 Palisade vehicles. The instrument cluster assembly may have been manufactured with excessive adhesive, which can disable the instrument cluster display screen.

Reported consequence: A disabled display screen will not show critical information, such as the meters, gauges, and warning lights, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the instrument cluster assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 230.

SEAT BELTS: REAR/OTHER:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY

NHTSA #25V607000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats may fail to latch.

Reported consequence: Seat belt buckles that fail to latch may not properly restrain occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Passengers are advised to insert the belt firmly into the buckle with a quick and direct motion, pulling on the belt to confirm the seat belt is fully secured, until the recall remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning October 23, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated June 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 283. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 13, 2025.

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Drive Seat Seatbelt unbuckles when driving. This has happened in the past lets say like every few months. In the month of April it happened twice in 1 week and the following week 5/2/26 1 time. This is a huge safety risk. Last time our vehicle went in for an oil change- dealership said there is no fix for this at this time. I filed a complaint with Hyundai XXX 5/3/26 after happened the day before. Because this vehicle’s restraint system may be unsafe to operate, I am requesting that Hyundai provide a loaner or alternate transportation until the defect is properly diagnosed and repaired. If Hyundai is unable to promptly and permanently correct this safety defect, I expect Hyundai to discuss further remedies, including vehicle replacement, repurchase, reimbursement of expenses, or other appropriate compensation. We have not received a call when it stated within one business day. I sent another email requesting assistance without resolution. The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

I am writing to follow up on an ongoing issue with the seat belts in my Hyundai Palisade. I have previously reached out through multiple channels and have been in contact with a representative who has made efforts to assist, which I sincerely appreciate. However, the issue remains unresolved, and I am growing increasingly concerned. This vehicle is our primary family car. My wife relies on it daily to transport our children and my mother-in-law, and the current seat belt issue raises serious safety concerns for all of us. At this point, I do not feel confident that the vehicle provides the level of safety my family depends on. I have inquired about possible solutions, including a potential buyback program or the opportunity to transition into a newer Palisade that does not present these issues. My goal is simply to ensure that my family can travel safely and with peace of mind. I respectfully ask for your assistance in escalating this matter or exploring any available options that would lead to a timely and satisfactory resolution. Your support in addressing this safety concern would mean a great deal to my family and me. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response

I own a Hyundai vehicle with an active safety recall related to seatbelt buckle failure. The driver seatbelt buckle does not latch at all. The seatbelt tongue inserts but does not lock, making the seat unusable and unsafe to be driven. This issue matches the recall description for defective seatbelt buckle assemblies that may prevent proper latching. I have contacted multiple Hyundai dealerships and Hyundai corporate. I was informed that the recall remedy is not currently available due to lack of parts and will likely not be available for another 16 weeks. This recall has been open since approximately September 2025, and as of now (March 2026), no repair has been provided. Hyundai has not provided a loaner vehicle or guaranteed transportation solution despite the safety-critical nature of this issue. I was advised to contact dealerships individually to search for parts or loaners, which is not a viable solution. I am concerned about the extended delay in providing a remedy for a critical safety component and the lack of a consistent interim solution for affected owners.

NHTSA #11727677

I've been trying for 6 months to get my recalled seatbelts replaced as I complained about issues with the latching mechanism for years before the recall. The dealership does not have parts to repair the seatbelts and will not provide a reasonable time frame or loaner vehicle in the meantime. Please help. I am concerned for my kids' safety as they're coming unbuckled spontaneously as we drive down the road and both rear seats are recalled so there is no safe place for them to ride.

NHTSA #11726666

5-6 weeks ago my seatbelt began unbuckling itself up to six times in a 25 minute commute. I called Crain Hyundai of Bentonville to schedule the repair as this is a recall issue. I was told since I was experiencing issues I’d be bumped up the list and they were anticipating parts the following week. I called back 2 weeks later after not hearing from them and spoke to a different person who confirmed I was on a list and they just don’t have the parts. I then called the Hyundai customer service line 2 weeks ago and started a case to escalate the issue since the problem is a life safety issue and persistent. I was told by my case manager that after speaking with Crain Hyundai, I am not on a list and they will be escalating the matter. Crain Hyundai claims to have never heard of me, even though they confirmed my phone number back to me after the first call, and confirmed again after the second call. After requesting escalation through Hyundai to a supervisor because the case manager “could not disclose the internal issue” in which I am not on a list. I called Crain myself and the female advisor said there is no list, never was, and they apparently don’t plan to create one either. I asked about trading it in and she said it’s fine, they just can’t resell them and that they have a stock pile of Palisades for this reason. I asked how I can be sure they aren’t hoarding the seatbelts as they come in for their own stock pile to be able to resell them and she just claimed I’d need an appointment to get a seatbelt. I asked about making an appt and she said I could but they won’t call if the part is not in. She claims she has not seen seatbelts come in for months, even though this recall has been around for a long time and I’ve had one belt replaced in 2023 already. Hyundai is not taking this life safety recall seriously at all and I’m concerned there is an opportunity to use up all the new seatbelts on their stockpile rather than current drivers who need them.

NHTSA #11731114

When the recall for the seatbelts was first released I went to the dealership and was told my car was not affected which was incorrect. More recently they admitted it was included but it would be at least one year before I would see the repair completed. Now there’s another recall but Hyundai has no remedy!

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed or while the vehicle was parked, the front driver's and the rear passengers' seat belts unexpectedly unlatched. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts); however, parts were not yet available. The vehicle was taken to a dealer by the contact's spouse, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact later called the dealer and was advised that the parts were not available and that the parts were on a nationwide backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

We have tried to get our local dealership to replace the seatbelt in reference to Hyundai major safety recall 283. They have not provided a remedy to my families daily driver. We scheduled an appointment to make the repairs on 12/18. My wife took the vehicle there just for them to tell us they did not have the parts to make repairs. She was told this on the phone as well when she called on 1/7, 1/15, and 1/19. We also contacted Hyundai directly and was told our case would be expedited. Our concern has not been important to every entity that we have contacted due to it not being there families at risk. Other families have been able to get rental vehicles provided by the dealership but my family has not been that fortunate. Thanks in advance and any help is appreciated.

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

NHTSA #11737525

I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my vehicle’s front passenger seat belt, which unexpectedly came unlatched. Although Hyundai replaced that one seatbelt, I remain very concerned that other seatbelts in the vehicle could have the same defect. I was informed that the warranty has been extended in case this issue happens again, allowing for additional replacements. However, this approach does not fully address the risk. If a seatbelt were to unlatch during an accident, it could lead to severe injury or death. This is a major safety hazard affecting all seatbelts in the vehicle.

NHTSA #11683834

The seat belt buckle in the third row was crushed by the folding of the third row. I had to replace the buckle to use it.

NHTSA #11681972

My middle row seat belts randomly become disengaged. Even after ensuring they are pushed in all the way. This has happened multiple times and is concerning as I drive my kids around a lot. It has had 10+ times but I took it to the dealer and they said at the time they couldn't replicate it so nothing could be done but it keeps happening! Randomly and without warning.

NHTSA #11666483

My wife drives the vehicle regularly and mentioned that the seatbelt unlatched multiple times without force to the buckle or latching mechanism. The seatbelt problem was occuring before her vehicle accident and continues to happen afterwards. The seatbelt came completely undone while driving at highway speeds and seperately during stop and go traffic. You may inspect it as needed as long as the inspection does not impeed usage for traveling to work Monday - Friday 8-5 please. The vehicle is used as a primary means of transportation. The driver's safety is continously put at risk due to seatbelt failure and may cause bodily injury, serious bodily injury, or death if not corrected. The vehicle was dropped off at Hyundai Northwest in San Antonio for a seperate issue and the seatbelt failure was mentioned and I was told there is no active recall for it to be fixed. They did not investigate further. The vehicle has been to classic collision repair on Fredericksburg Rd in San Antonio for a rear end collision (not at fault). No warning lamps or messages noted.

NHTSA #11669502

I am the second owner of this vehicle and have only been driving it for two weeks. The second row driver’s side seatbelt has disengaged on multiple occasions (at least 5) while the car is in motion. The passenger seatbelt has disengaged twice and the driver’s seatbelt has disengaged once. Obviously this is a serious issue that could result in major injuries if an accident ever occurred. I will be taking the vehicle in for service as soon as possible.

NHTSA #11657389

2nd row, right seat belt will sometimes not latch properly, or will come unlatched by itself while in operation.

NHTSA #11657684

Passenger rear seat (middle row) belt comes unlatched on its own while the vehicle is being operated. The latch is currently securing a [XXX] boy (approx. [XXX]) for most of the time the seat belt is latched. The seat belt in most cases remains latched however it is slowly becoming more progressive. The left rear passenger seat (middle row) is currently latched securing a car seat with no issues present and no issues present at third row seat belts. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11653590

Sometimes seatbelts come unbuckled in the front and back seats. Currently front passenger seat will not buckle has happened several times. Seems to not always latch all the way. Have had a seatbelt, unbuckled while driving a few different times. Huge safety issue.

NHTSA #11654121

2nd row captain seats come unbuckled on there own after correctly buckling/ latching them. Has done it multiple times while driving down the road on my adult children and my younger children

NHTSA #11654002

Driver's seatbelt is unlatching while driving spontaneously. It is also having issues latching and staying latched. The dealership was not any assistance, as they said it was likely maybe dirt in the seatbelt (there isn't any debris). This is a huge safety concern, as we have a young child and are now concerned about the rest of the seatbelts doing the same thing.

NHTSA #11647917

Multiple times after the kids buckle in, their seatbelts will become unlatched while driving down the road. This occurs in the middle row and happens with everyone from the [XXX] to the [XXX] . In some instances it has happened when an adult is sitting in the second row as well. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11667205

The front passenger seatbelt suddenly popped open while making a turn. The same thing previously happened with the drivers seatbelt but figured I must have not fully buckled it; when it happened to my husband weeks later in a different seat, I researched it and see it is a known issue.

NHTSA #11641832

The rear passenger captain seatbelt does not latch properly. My daughter who is [XXX] struggled one day to get the seat belt to latch. Upon inspection nothing appeared to be stuck in the latch. The seatbelt would enter into the lower lock fine, but not engage. After several attempts the seatbelt would eventually latch. However when driving if under pressure, the seatbelt has come unlatched with no action to the release button. I had a similar issue with the rear seatbelt in the third row that just wouldn't latch no matter what and the dealership replaced no issues. I took my car to Vision Hyundai in Canandaigua this morning and was informed that they couldn't replicate the issue so the latch was in fact not broke. The gentleman was putting his whole weight into it when latching it, but did share if he slowly tried to latch it didn't catch, but that wasn't a safety concern. After reviewing multiple hyundai forums, I see I am not alone and this appears to be a wider issue. 37 others have filed a formal complaint regarding this issue and I tried to tell the guy, I don't want to be driving and get into an accident and then the seatbelt decides to "fail". It should be taken at the customers request and the seatbelt should be replaced even if there is no formal safety recall. NHTSA #11639848

Passenger and Driver seatbelts unlatch on their own

NHTSA #11639801

I have experienced a couple times where the driver's seatbelt has become unbuckled. We have owned the Palisade since May of 2022. We have had now issues with the seat belts until this past two weeks. I buckled the front seat belt like normal. It unclicked. I forced the seat belt to click harder and it did stay secure, but a couple miles down the road the seat belt unclicked. Possible faulty seat belt. As mentioned, this has not been an issue until now.

NHTSA #11640319

Rear passenger seatbelt has unlatched unexpectedly several times

NHTSA #11638483

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the driver's side and passenger’s side front seat belts unlatched unintendedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

NHTSA #11644167

Drivers seatbelt randomly comes unclicked when driving. This also happens even after making sure the seatbelt is secure. Also have issues with passengers side second row with seatbelt not clicking into place after several attempts.

NHTSA #11655903

The seat belt in the rear right passenger seat became disengaged on 1/13/25 while driving. The alert indicating the belt had become unbuckled did alarm. This has happened repeatedly, including recently on 1/10/25 when the front passenger seat belt became disengaged while driving. This has occurred when both children and adults are occupying the seats.

NHTSA #11635759

The passenger side 2nd row seatbelt will randomly become unlatched while driving the vehicle. This happens despite checking to be sure it has clicked/locked into place at the start of the drive, and has happened repeatedly at random times. This began happening in January 2025 and has occured about 6 times since. I just scheduled a Hyundai service repair for 02/28/25.

NHTSA #11644255

This has now happened 2 times now (once in the fall of 2024 and the other time was 2 or 3 weeks ago) to the driver side seatbelt. Before driving, I buckled and clicked my seat belt and while I was driving, the seat belt unclicked and unlocked on it's own. The first time this happened, I thought maybe I didn't secure it all the way, but when it happened a second time, I knew for sure I had fully buckled my seat belt and it unlocked on it's own. This is a huge safety concern. If I got into an accident and my seat belt became unlocked, I could be killed. And I am concerned about the other seat belts as well. I have 2 small children who are always in the car with either my husband or myself (or both of us). I am concerned that their seat belts could have the same issue. No warning lights went on and I have not had the seat belt inspected yet. I researched online and saw no recalls, so I wanted to make sure this was reported in case others are having the same issue. It's very concerning. If my vehicle is needed for inspection, I am happy to do so as long as I have another car to drive in the mean time. This is our only vehicle.

NHTSA #11636251

2nd row seat belts unlatching on their own. More prevalent in cold temperatures.

NHTSA #11639432

Driver, and second row seatbelt unlatch on there own while driving numerous times Unsure of third row as this row is not regularly used. Passenger seatbelt belt was recently replaced under warranty.

NHTSA #11638377

Seat belts will randomly unlatch. Mostly happens in the second row but does occasionally happen in the driver and passenger seat. My kids are normally in the second row and are aware of the issue. We always remind them to check the seat belts by pulling to make sure it is latched. The seat belts have unlatched even after the kids have pulled and verified they are latched which is pretty scary. We will be just driving down the road when the seat belts unlatch. Luckily we have not been in an accident in this vehicle. Afraid the seat belts would not help.

NHTSA #11630495

I have had two seat belts in this vehicle stop latching and come unlatched while the car was in motion. The first one was the middle row passenger side and the most recent one was the driver seat. This is extremely unsafe and I am very nervous for all of the other seat belts in this car. Both times I have been told his isn't a know issue and that they would be replaced by warranty. I am now finding out from searching online that this is being investigated.

NHTSA #11629301

For the last two months nearly every time the front passenger seat seat belt unbuckles when it is used.

NHTSA #11635485

Update to previously filed complaint number: 11608439. Safety issue has been resolved. Initial complaint was due to defective seatbelt receiver buckle. Van Hyundai Carrollton dealership and Hyundai customer service refused to repair the issue under existing warranty, both claiming the issue was not a warrantied item. Months after safety issue was first reported, the vehicle was taken to another dealership, Huffines Hyundai Plano, where the faulty seatbelt buckle was diagnosed and quickly replaced free of charge.

NHTSA #11633458

Several times while traveling, passengers have reported their seat belts unexpectedly and randomly releasing. In addition, the rear drivers side seat belt frequently does not latch. I have two videos showing the issue: [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11619344

Second row seatbelts will randomly unbuckle while driving. Despite making sure they are securely fastened.

NHTSA #11613091

Front passenger side seatbelt buckle is not latching correctly when seatbelt tongue is inserted into buckle. Buckle will only latch when the buckle release button is depressed while inserting the seatbelt tongue. Defect may result in injury or death during car during an accident or sudden stop if passenger is unable to properly latch seatbelt due to defect or buckle fails. Dealership has refused to correct defect without first collecting diagnostic fee. Manufacturer has refused to cover costs to diagnose and repair part. Previous seatbelt buckle recalls for this manufacturer do not cover this make, model, or specific part.

NHTSA #11608439

Second row passenger seatbelt randomly unbuckles when driving. This has happed 6 times in 30 days with two different people seated in that seat.

NHTSA #11584219

The seat belts come unbuckled while driving. They can be difficult to buckle. Kids and adults have a hard time buckling and then when we are driving they will unbuckle on their own.

The sunroof exploded while driving down the road. No other vehicles were within 100m of us. It sounded like a shotgun going off. Immediately pulled over to assess the damage and found almost no glass inside the car. The glass that was surrounding the break was protruding upward as if it had been building pressure from the inside of the car. Vehicle is available for inspection. I was swerving all over the road ducking my head thinking I had been shot at (combat vet). Im guessing the glass that wasn't found inside the car hit the road behind us but no other vehicles were around us at the time. If someone would have been behind us, they would have gotten peppered with broken glass. Dealer has not been notified yet but have seen many reports of the same thing happening to other people online. No one else has inspected the damage at this time. No warnings or messages were given prior to but im sure thats impossible. Temperature today has been between 30 and 40 degrees F. No major or rapid changes within the last few days.

We brought our vehicle to Anaheim Hyundai for a recall-related service update. Before releasing the vehicle back to us, dealership staff advised that we “may experience some issues” after the update and stated that this was considered “normal.” Later that same evening, the vehicle began stalling while driving. The stalling occurred 7–8 times in different driving situations, including while turning through a busy intersection with oncoming traffic. Each incident created a serious safety hazard, especially because all three of our young children were in the vehicle at the time. During each stall event, the vehicle would suddenly shake, the dashboard warning lights would illuminate, the engine would shut off, and we were forced to restart the vehicle in traffic. In addition, the RPM gauge now constantly fluctuates and shakes while driving. We immediately returned the car to the dealership. Initially, we were told there were no diagnostic error codes. Shortly afterward, the dealership informed us there was a code related to the instrument cluster. They worked with Hyundai technical support to replace and recalibrate the instrument cluster. During this process, the dealership also claimed that our battery was contributing to the stalling issue. At that point, we learned that the dealership technician had jump-started the vehicle while performing the recall update during our original visit. Based on the dealership’s recommendation, we replaced the battery. However, the stalling issue continued even after the battery replacement. We returned the vehicle a second time for the same unresolved stalling problem. During that visit, the dealership stated the issue was caused by the gas we were using, specifically Costco fuel. We were informed that multiple diagnostic codes had appeared, yet the vehicle was returned to us without the issue being resolved. Prior to the recall service, we never had any stalling or drivability issues with the vehicle.

Recall notice was received reporting 3rd row seating unsafe for occupants. There is no remedy at this time and I have 4 children under the age of 8, two of which ride in the 3rd row. Dealership has been reluctant to help with this matter and Hyundai corporate has delayed communication.

NHTSA #11727252

While driving to work this morning, 12/31/25, at approximately 0730 my front sunroof exploded. There was no collision, no debris, nothing hit the glass. This put me and my child at risk due to exploding glass. I have attempted to contact dealer to inquire but am waiting on a returned phone call. I have filed a claim with my insurance as well. There was no warning that this was going to occur.

NHTSA #11708032

The sun roof in our 2022 Hyundai Palisade exploded on Friday 28th November whilst we were driving down the highway on I25 to [XXX] . All of my family were in the car and the sunroof exploded outwards for no reason. There were no windows or doors open at that time to create pressure and no rock or item hit the sunroof. As you can see from the photos, there is very little glass inside the car and the majority of it exploded up and out from the car and the shape of the glass pointing upwards, indicates the explosion was from the inside of the car, to the outside. Despite the upheaval in the car , we were able to navigate the car safely off the highway. We were in contact with Hyundai corporate (Case number XXX) and they have denied to accept responsibility for this design issue. We have seen numerous incidences of this online for exploding sunroofs on Hyundai Palisades. Our local Hyundai dealership inspected the sunroof and took record of the broken sunroof but they have denied to accept responsibility. We have filed a claim through Safeco insurance (Claim #XXX) and got the sunroof replaced through insurance. I have sent a case to Safeco for Subrogation for them to reclaim costs for Hyundai. We feel this is a significant design issue and will potentially cause other accidents in the future. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On April 19, 2024, while driving my 2022 Hyundai Palisade around 10:00 am (82 degrees outside) at a speed of 70 mph with no traffic ahead or behind me, my sunroof exploded. A very loud noise that startled my wife and me while driving. With no traffic on the road i was able to safely pull over and inspect the sunroof/damage. It left a semi round hole of shattered missing glass approximately twelve (12) inches in diameter. I then drove immediately to the nearest Hyundai dealer (Hyundai North - Covington LA). There service tech inspected it and said this issue has been happening often, but it is not covered under warranty, therefore, I would need to file an insurance claim to fix it.

Engine15 complaints

My 2022 Hyundai Palisade recently blew the engine due to very little oil (6 quarts). My wife stated that she was driving when it started to act weird. Very shortly after that she heard the vehicle making a loud knocking / banging sound. She stopped the vehicle and turned it off in the nearest parking lot. We had the vehicle towed to our certified mechanic to have it looked at. 6 quarts of oil was put into the engine before it was full. Both him and my wife stated the vehicle never showed a check engine light, low oil light or oil pressure problems. He stated the vehicle had no leaks. He advised us that Hyundai/Kia was having problems burning oil. This is a high risk and safety concerns since there was no warning, happened suddenly and could cause problems for people to find a safe place to pull off the roadway and interstate. So many things can happen if someone didn't hear the noise or have lights indicating a problem, therefor if this happened on the interstate people could struggle getting to the shoulder when engine locks up. Also, a piston or connecting rod can be ejected from an engine risking the safety of pedestrians on foot or driving down the road.

- Engine leaking oil / burning oil - vehicle stuttered while turning left - can lead to sudden breakdown or stalling - dealer performed warranty repair of oil pan and oil filter housing in February. 2 months later, no oil on dipstick. Dealer reports this is a common issue. - manufacturer states one quart of oil lost every 1000 miles is acceptable. Car holds 6 quarts of oil. Dealership oil change is once every 6000 miles. Engine will be out of oil before next oil change is due - car is at dealer with no loaner available. Hyundai corporate contacted and they say this is very common and oil consumption test is next step. In the meantime, no car for us. - Vehicle still has 28000 miles under warranty. A simple internet search will show this is an extremely common issue with no fix. - Life of engine, value of car, peace of mind, safety of occupants are all a concern

At about 60,200 miles, my check engine light went off and I took it to the dealer. They told me all my fuel injectors were failing and I had to replace those to include the spark plugs. The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked for nine hours unattended in the middle of the night; it caught fire. No warning lights were illuminated before the fire. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer two weeks prior for a recall repair and oil change. While her husband was extinguishing the fire, he sustained burns to his arms and face, but medical attention was not provided. Additionally, part of the home was burned. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. There was no police report filed, no air bag deployment, or crash. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility by the insurance company. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

The engine is burning oil at a rate that is unreasonable. When the oil level is low, there is no oil light indicator to show that the car is low on oil. My safety is being put at risk because the engine could seize up at any moment and may have slow or no acceleration. I caught the low oil problem just in time because i have a child who was aware of what the issue was with the car. I have had normal oil changes. This is a known issue in Hyundai's and these vehicles need to be repaired/replaced. The care will be inspected by a Hyundai dealership.

After my 2022 Palisade Calligraphy with 95K miles stalled several times in intersections and ran rough, dealership said I was 4 quarts of oil low. Dealership recommended an oil consumption test and vehicle burns 1 quart every 568 miles. Hyundai denied my claim under their 100K power train warranty since I was 2nd owner, and they did not make a good will offer. After researching, it appears oil consumption is a common problem with Hyundai vehicles, specifically the Palisade. Aftermarket warranty I purchased denied my claim since it didn't cover oil consumption. Submitting this incident so others are aware of oil consumption issues with Hyundai vehicles as vehicle is unsafe when it stalls.

The oil filter housing is plastic and breaks easily. Most places I tried to get an oil change refuse to work on this car because they don’t want to be liable for any damage to the engine do to a cracked oil filter housing. This is a know issue and the manufacturer has not issued a recall or offered a fix. This forces owners to bring there vehicles to a Hyundai dealership and pay a premium for an oil change.

The vehicle exhibits two distinct and dangerous behaviors: 1. Engine stalling upon deceleration: When slowing to a stop, the engine stalls abruptly before the vehicle comes to a complete stop, causing a sudden, unexpected deceleration that throws occupants forward with significant force. 2. Unintended surge upon brake release: When releasing the brake pedal from a complete stop, the vehicle surges forward unexpectedly and with excessive force, causing occupants to be jolted harshly without warning. Both incidents occur without any prior indication to the driver, leaving no opportunity to prevent the danger to occupants or others nearby. SAFETY RISK: Passengers were subjected to sudden, unexpected forward jolting without warning, posing a risk of injury. The vehicle's behavior also creates a hazard for other drivers and pedestrians in the vicinity. DEALER / SERVICE CENTER: The problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or service center. INSPECTION BY MANUFACTURER, POLICE, OR INSURANCE: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. WARNING LAMPS OR PRIOR SYMPTOMS: No warning lamps, dashboard messages, or prior symptoms appeared before or during these incidents. The failures occur without any advance notice to the driver, leaving no opportunity to take corrective action.

The dealership is stating we have bad gas as the gravity of the gas was .74. And that we had bad fuel injectors. Mind you the dealership before this one advised us we had spark plug issues. So we called corporate and explained the situation and they advised we were covered under warranty. Now we tell them to go ahead and get rid of the bad gas and with the understanding we are covered under warranty for the fuel injectors. We advise the dealership we spoke to corporate and they advised the fuel injectors are covered under warranty. The weekend goes by we check on the car Monday and the dearlship advises we are not covered. So we call corporate back who is now advising it's up to the dealerships to honor the warranty and it looks like we are not covered. While driving the car on highway the oil plug fell and eventually seized the engine. There has been multiple complaints for the same for other Hyundai vehicles as well. The car is in dealership right now with engine failure. While driving the car on I-81, suddenly smoke started coming out of hood. Stopped to check and then while starting the car again, saw oil check and engine check light come on after. The dealership mentioned oil plug fell off and oil spilled all over engine. The last service was over 7 months ago and was due for service soon. Couldn’t be negligence but a problem with Hyundai.

Rear suspension has continued to have issues. First noticed after about 20,000 miles. A clunk and gurgling sound in rear. Took to local dealership and they didn’t do anything about it. Took again at 35,000 miles and was ignored again. 42,000 the dealership finally listened and replaced rear shock insulation, problem persisted but was a little more muted. 48,860 miles took it to another dealership and they replaced both rear shocks reporting them both as leaky rear shocks. The shocks on my 2022 Hyundai Palisade are defective. I had both shocks and the absorbers replaced the first time at 44,349 miles on 5/31/25. I had the driver side rear shock and absorber replaced again at 46,567 miles on 7/24/25. I am having the same driver side rear shock replaced again at 48,484 miles on 10/3/25. Defective shocks are a safety hazard by increasing stopping distance and reducing traction in inclement weather conditions. They also cause uneven wear on my tires, which reduces traction, too. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This is a well known problem that Hyundai has failed to correct. I had the driver-side wiper replaced in November 2023 due to a recall and have had an issue 3x since then. Twice, snow had accumulated under the wiper arm while driving and caused the wiper motor to stop. That is the exact reason for the recall but it continues to happen regardless. Then the other night while driving 70 on a freeway in heavy rain with wipers on full speed, the driver wiper started hitting the left edge of the windshield a few swipes, slowed down for a few swipes, then stopped completely in the lower position. Had to get off at the next exit as all attempts wouldn't get them working again. Two days later I was able to get into the dealership for a quick "tightening of the bolt" to get the wipers functioning again. The dealership said they knew exactly what the problem was due to so many people having this issue with needing the bolt tightened because it must have worked its way loose. The motor must be too weak and the replacement wiper arm has not remedied the occurrence, leading to some very hazardous situations.

Seats5 complaints

The 3rd row power seats do not always recognize something or someone sitting there and will continue to fold down. After seeing the reports of a little girl passing away we wanted to test our 3rd row power seats. We placed a car seat in the 3rd row and it did recognize that and stopped folding. Next, I sat in the seat and my husband pushed the fold button and it kept trying to fold down on me until I pushed back with a good amount of force, a child would not be able to prevent the chair from stopping. Last, we placed a large stuffed animal and buckled it in and hit the power button and it completely folded down on top of it. I have reached out to my local dealership 4/16 and had a service advisor confirm my car to be impacted by this problem. They did offer a loaner car until there was a remedy in place. This issue does not currently show up on a list of recalls however which is very concerning.

The third-row power seat fails to detect obstructions and continues closing under resistance, even when encountering large objects such as a fully loaded backpack. The seat does not stop or reverse, indicating a failure of the obstruction detection / anti-pinch safety feature. This creates a crushing hazard to passengers, including children. A fatal incident involving a similar seat malfunction in the same make and model has been reported. The problem persists whenever the seat is operated, and the malfunction has been documented on video. Although the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealership, Hyundai Consumer Affairs has been provided with video evidence. They have suggested further inspection, but no engineering-level evaluation of this safety issue has been completed. The seat continues to close under resistance and does not stop or reverse. The failure of the seat’s obstruction detection system creates a significant crushing hazard. Although no injury has occurred in my vehicle, the reported fatal incident involving the same defect shows the potential for serious injury or death. Video evidence demonstrating the seat malfunction is available. All correspondence with Hyundai Consumer Affairs documenting attempts to resolve this issue can be provided upon request.

I’m Filing a complaint regarding Recall 26V034 (Hyundai Recall 292). The manufacturer and dealership are failing to provide the alternative transportation/rental reimbursement guaranteed in the 'Remedy Not Available' dealer notification filed with the NHTSA. My vehicle is currently grounded at the dealership due to safety concerns regarding the Ejection Mitigation Recall, for which no remedy is yet available. Hyundai's own policy (dated Jan 23, 2026) states that dealers will offer rentals to interested customers until a remedy is available. I grounded my palisade because I felt it was unsafe to put my 3 young children in, got a rental with out own money, and am now being denied rental reimbursement. Timeline Summary – 2022 Hyundai Palisade Safety Defects I first reported seatbelt buckles coming unlatched during normal use in early 2025. The issue was documented by the dealership on March 28th, 2025. A recall was later issued confirming a defect in the seatbelt buckle assemblies that may prevent proper latching and increase the risk of injury in a crash. From late 2025 through April 2026, I was repeatedly informed by Hyundai and dealership representatives that parts were unavailable, on backorder, and that no repair timeline existed, despite being told parts had been ordered as early as November/December. On April 2, 2026, I was again told there were no parts available and no estimated timeline for repair. After submitting a formal lemon law demand on March 29, 2026 and escalating the matter, Hyundai confirmed in writing that parts were limited and no defined repair timeline existed. Only after over a year of delay was I later informed that a part may be available. Additionally, there is another active safety recall affecting the vehicle for which no repair is currently available. This vehicle has had unresolved safety defects for over a year, involving critical systems, without a reasonable repair timeframe.

The system that has the issue is the emergency braking system. The brakes of the car have engaged automatically at highway speeds more than 5 times. This has put the safety of the individuals in my car at risk as well as the cars around me because the cars behind me then got way to close because of my vehicle breaking. It is also very jarring for the driver and could make the driver make the driver swerve thinking there is someone getting too close. The emergency braking lights flash on the dash when this happens. The vehicle has multiple unresolved safety recalls involving the seatbelt system and the airbag system (ejection mitigation/side curtain airbags). These are critical occupant protection systems that are designed to protect passengers during a crash. There is a risk that seatbelts may not properly restrain occupants and that airbags may not deploy or function correctly. I regularly transport 3–4 children in this vehicle and do not feel it is safe to operate under these conditions. These issues have been confirmed by the manufacturer through official safety recalls. The dealership has acknowledged the recalls; however, at least one recall (airbag/ejection mitigation) currently has no available remedy or timeline for repair. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership, which confirmed the recalls. I have also been in communication with Hyundai Motor America regarding these issues. The seatbelt buckle does not consistently latch properly. When attempting to fasten the seatbelt, it repeatedly clicks without securing, and at times it does not lock at all, creating a risk that the occupant may not be properly restrained. I contacted both the dealership and Hyundai Motor America to request a safe alternative while waiting for repairs. The dealership offered a loaner vehicle that does not accommodate my family size. Hyundai has not approved rental reimbursement or provided a suitable alternative vehicle. As a result, I do not currently have access to a safe and practical transportation solution while these safety recalls remain unresolved.

Power Train,Engine3 complaints

While driving, the vehicle intermittently loses engine power without warning. The loss of power occurs at normal driving speeds and during acceleration, creating an unsafe condition in traffic. When the issue occurs, the vehicle hesitates and fails to respond to throttle input, making it unsafe to merge or maintain speed. The condition occurs intermittently and does not consistently trigger warning lights or diagnostic trouble codes. Despite the absence of warning lights or stored codes, the loss of power is clearly felt while driving and presents a serious safety concern. The issue has occurred multiple times and has not been permanently resolved despite prior service visits. The intermittent nature of the failure and lack of codes makes diagnosis difficult, but the problem continues to recur and affects the safe operation of the vehicle. This loss of power creates a risk of stalling or sudden deceleration while driving, increasing the likelihood of a collision, especially in traffic or at intersections. The issue appears related to the engine timing or powertrain system.

This same incident has happened twice, June of 2025 and more recently March of 2026. My vehicle will essentially have no oil left causing my car to shake while breaking and eventually the car stalls out. The first time this occurred, my vehicle stalled out in the highway and again at a 4 way stop sign. I took it to the Hyundai dealership where an oil change, oil plug and oil filter was replaced. In December of 2025, I noticed oil leaking from my vehicle, where the oil house filter was deemed the issue and was replaced. March of 2026, my car started to shake and eventually stall out again and this prompted me to check my oil levels where there was little to no oil. An oil consumption test was performed and it was noted my car is consuming 0.5 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles. Per Hyundai, this does not meet the oil consumption warranty (1 quart per 1,000 miles) and there is nothing to do for this issue at this time. My concerns are that this issue arises prior to my next recommended oil change. Also, there are no warning signs that prompt me that my oil is actually low; no dashboard warnings or notifications. I really only know this problem is occurring when my vehicle physically shows signs while I am driving. I am frustrated with this as I have to refill oil in between oil changes but also pay for the oil changes. Also, it worries me for the safety of my family while we are driving this vehicle.

In November 2024, I experienced issues indicative of a coolant leak, including engine overheating warnings and noticeable coolant odors. Upon investigation, I discovered that Hyundai had issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #23-EM-003H on August 3, 2023, acknowledging that certain 2020–2022 Palisade models may exhibit a slight coolant leak at the radiator. Despite this acknowledgment, Hyundai has not initiated a recall, leaving many consumers, including myself, vulnerable to potential engine damage and safety risks. Furthermore, numerous complaints have been filed by other 2022 Palisade owners reporting similar issues: •One owner reported an engine overheat warning while parked, followed by a strong coolant smell and visible coolant leakage. The dealership diagnosed a cracked radiator. •Another owner experienced coolant odor inside the vehicle and was informed by the dealer of tiny pinholes in the radiator, necessitating a replacement that was delayed due to high demand. These incidents highlight a pattern of radiator failures that pose a risk of engine overheating and potential safety hazards. The lack of a formal recall or widespread notification to owners exacerbates the issue, as many may be unaware of the potential danger. Given the severity and frequency of these problems, I urge the NHTSA to: 1.Initiate a formal investigation into the radiator and coolant system defects in 2020–2022 Hyundai Palisade models. 2.Assess whether Hyundai’s current measures are sufficient to address the safety risks associated with these defects. 3.Consider mandating a recall to ensure affected vehicles are promptly and effectively repaired. I appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to vehicle safety.

Random clicking noise coming from the doors and a relay clicking noise coming from under the glove box followed by a Child Safety Lock Failure error message on the instrument cluster. This results in the doors being able to be opened while the vehicle is in drive

NHTSA #11612039

During normal course of driving, child safety lock begins clicking. At random times for a varied amount of time between 5 seconds to 20 seconds. I can turn off the clicking by turning off the child safety lock. If I turn back on the child safety lock, the clicking may or may not resume. This is being documented on some online forums with others experiencing the same. Our safety has yet to be tested with this issue as my son is harnessed in and is only [XXX] old, but we are about to move into a booster seat. I am concerned he may be grown enough to have better access to the door and its settings with us moving him into his next seat size. The dealer has confirmed the problem and changed the "child lock switch" but the issue returned within a week. Just before turning in the car to the dealership for fixing this (later to be found unsuccessful), the child safety lock failed to a level where it triggered a dashboard warning about it. Since the "switch" has been replaced I have not seen a warning notification on the dashboard. This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years now. purchased a vehicle that has experienced ongoing mechanical and safety-related defects, including excessive oil consumption, seat belt malfunctions, and unresolved injector recall issues. Despite multiple repair attempts by the dealership, the problems continue to persist and have not been permanently corrected. These defects substantially affect the vehicle’s safety, reliability, value, and everyday use. The dealership and manufacturer represented the vehicle as reliable and safe; however, the repeated failures and unresolved recalls suggest otherwise. I believe it is misleading to continue selling or servicing vehicles with known defects that cannot be properly repaired. I have also learned that certain model years are no longer sold due to widespread malfunctioning issues that are costly for consumers to repair, yet I was not informed of these concerns at the time of purchase. I have made several attempts to resolve this matter by bringing the vehicle to the dealership for repairs, reporting the recurring issues, and complying with recommended service appointments. Despite these efforts, the defects remain unresolved, causing financial hardship, inconvenience, and concerns for my safety.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated with no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to lightly engage the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly, causing the contact to collide with another vehicle. The two vehicle in front where crashd into and had cosmetic damage. No injuries were sustained, and no medical attention was required. The air bags did not deploy during the incident. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 30,200.

NHTSA #11724161

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue involving my Hyundai Palisade related to brake failure. While driving my Hyundai Palisade, I experienced a situation where pressing the brake pedal resulted in little to no braking response. The vehicle did not slow or stop as expected, creating an extremely dangerous situation and a significant risk of collision. This occurred without warning, and the brake pedal did not provide normal resistance or stopping power. This issue appears to be intermittent, which makes it difficult to predict or reproduce, but it has occurred more than once. Based on my experience and reports from other Hyundai Palisade owners, this may be related to a malfunction of the braking or ABS system. The lack of reliable braking response presents a serious safety hazard to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I am concerned that this issue could result in a crash, injury, or worse if not addressed promptly. I am requesting that this complaint be formally recorded and that the brake system on Hyundai Palisade vehicles be thoroughly investigated. If applicable, I also request information regarding any known technical service bulletins, software updates, or recalls related to this issue. Power Train,Electrical System,Engine2 complaints

While driving at normal speed, my 2022 Hyundai Palisade suddenly lost power without warning. Multiple warning icons appeared on the dashboard at the same time. The vehicle immediately slowed down and became unsafe to operate. After pulling over, the vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. This created a dangerous situation on the roadway. I am reporting this because I wonder if other owners may have experienced similar sudden power-loss events with this model year. It was fortunate that I was on a secondary road and not on the highway when this happened because it could have resulted in fatalities.

NHTSA #11722619

My 2022 Hyundai Palisade has repeatedly shut off while coming to a stop. The vehicle stalls unexpectedly, dashboard lights illuminate as if the vehicle is being restarted, and the gear sometimes shifts into neutral. I have to manually restart the car to resume driving. This issue has occurred multiple times under normal driving conditions—both when the Idle Stop & Go (ISG) system is enabled and disabled. The frequency of these stalls has increased, and they present a dangerous situation, especially at intersections or during heavy traffic. After researching online, I found that numerous 2020–2022 Palisade owners have reported the same symptoms. Many of them were told by their dealers that an ECU and/or TCU software update was needed. This suggests a broader systemic issue with the vehicle’s powertrain management system, which should warrant further investigation. As of now, no recall has been issued, but this is a recurring issue that poses a risk to driver and passenger safety. Hyundai has not officially acknowledged a recall or permanent fix, but affected vehicles are being patched with software updates at the dealer level.

Vechicle pulls to the right. This issue was noticed after the right side passenger tire was worn on the outside which normally indicates an alignment issue. Owner replaced all four tires and has a fron end alignment done at the same time. This issue continues and the Hyundai dealer is stating that there is not fix for this issue. Information available online indicates that there is a possible issue where the Steering Torque needs to be set to zero. This is a safety concern as the vechicle will go off the road.

I was driving along the feeder road entering the on-ramp of the highway, going about 45 mph, when I heard a loud explosion coming from inside my vehicle. I was obviously startled and my first thought was maybe my kids left a soda bottle in the car and the pressure caused the bottle to explode. It was then I noticed broken glass all over the interior of my vehicle, as well as on my person. It was a clear, sunny day, about 75 degrees, so no extreme weather. There were no vehicles ahead of me, behind me or on either side of me. When I got to a stopping point, I searched my vehicle thoroughly thinking something must have come through the glass and shattered it. But I found nothing in my vehicle that would have come from outside and caused this to happen. While taking photos of everything, I noticed the glass that was left appeared to be bowed upwards instead of inward. It was then I realized whatever happened did not come from outside of my vehicle. I started looking things up online and realized the "exploding sunroof" was actually a very common issue happening to many other people's vehicles. Why a recall on this serious safety issue has not been issued is baffling. I could have been in an accident due to the startling nature of the incident, I could have been cut with shards of glass. Thank God my children were not in the car with me at the time as most of the glass went to the back seats where they would have been sitting. Prior to this happening there were no issues with my sunroof and no obvious warning signs of its impending explosion. I truly hope a recall is issued soon before someone is seriously injured, or worse.

Air Bags,Seats,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

I am writing to report a compliance issue regarding Hyundai Recall 292 (NHTSA 26V-034). My vehicle has been grounded due to the safety risks outlined in this recall (specifically the failure of side curtain airbags to meet ejection mitigation standards for third-row occupants). Despite the vehicle being rendered unusable for safe transport, Hyundai is refusing to provide or reimburse a rental vehicle. This is a direct contradiction to the Reimbursement Plan submitted by Hyundai to the NHTSA on March 2, 2026, which states that the manufacturer will provide owners of affected vehicles reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to obtain a remedy for the recall condition. Since a final remedy is currently "Not Available," the only interim "remedy" to ensure occupant safety is to provide a rental vehicle. By grounding the vehicle but refusing to cover alternate transportation, Hyundai is effectively forcing owners to continue driving an unsafe vehicle or incur significant financial hardship, which undermines the entire purpose of the safety recall. I request that the NHTSA investigate Hyundai’s refusal to honor its reimbursement commitments for grounded vehicles under Recall 292 and ensure that all affected owners are provided with safe, manufacturer-covered transportation until a permanent fix is installed.

Air Bags,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

I am reporting a deliberate misrepresentation of vehicle status regarding Recall 292. On April 9, 2026, I brought my vehicle to Bud Clary Auburn Hyundai, for recall services, a safety concern with the 3rd row seat. I was told recall 292 had no remedy. I did not feel comfortable putting my kids back there knowing the airbags are recalled. It was officially grounded due to the side curtain airbag safety defect. The dealership has generated a Repair Order (RO) that falsely claims I departed in the vehicle on that same day. This is a material misrepresentation of fact. The vehicle was not released to me; it remained grounded and in the dealership's physical possession because it was deemed unsafe to drive. Evidence of Falsification: The dealership's claim that I left in the vehicle is physically impossible and contradicts their own actions. I have a written email from the Service Manager acknowledging that a dealership employee personally drove me home on April 9th because the vehicle was grounded. Motivation and Impact: This falsification appears to be a bad-faith attempt to manipulate the "days out of service" count required for eligibility under the Washington State Lemon Law. By documenting a departure that never occurred, the dealer is attempting to "stop the clock" on a safety-related grounding. Reporting inaccurate possession data on a vehicle under a federal safety recall compromises the integrity of the NHTSA’s recall tracking system.

Seat Belts,Seats,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

Within months of purchase, I reported to James Wood Hyundai in Decatur that my children were repeatedly becoming unbuckled in the rear bucket seats. I was told the seatbelts were fine yet I continued raising this concern at multiple service visits because the issue persisted. This was an ongoing safety problem not an isolated complaint. Years later, Hyundai issued a recall for this exact defect. I promptly contacted the nearest dealership to schedule repairs and explained that this concern has been documented since shortly after purchase. I was informed repairs would be delayed several weeks because Enterprise fleet vehicles were being prioritized and was told I am the “only person” experiencing this issue a statement that conflicts with a formal safety recall. Enterprise cannot legally rent vehicles with open safety recalls due to safety concerns, yet I am expected to transport my children in a vehicle with known defective rear seatbelts. Now there is another recall regarding passenger safety in the third row with no remedy so my children have no safe seat to use in my car. When I asked who’s responsible if my kids are injured in the second or third row of my car they will not respond.

Service Brakes,Engine,Fuel/Propulsion System1 complaint

Hyundai's recent emissions software update (9C9) has disabled engine braking, creating a risk of brake fade on grades. The vehicle is no longer able to hold speed while descending grades, regardless of downshifting, forcing the brakes to be implemented to avoid excessive speed. This was never an issue prior to the software update and happened immediately after the software was installed. Instead of holding the vehicle with the engine (foot off the gas, and downshifting) the engine will continue to increase speed up to the point of approaching maximum RPMs. Further evidence of this behavior is that trying to use the engine braking no longer shows maximum MPG on the dash, indicating the software update is still feeding fuel to the engine with the foot off the gas.

The first incident, my SUV failed to start, per Roadside Assistance, I replaced the battery. No diagnostic testing done. On 12/26/25 my SUV STOPPED COLD while driving. Red battery light and other warning indicators on dashboard lit up. Radio went dead; loss of steering assist; loss of vehicle power; dashboard went black and SUV SHUT DOWN. It would not start again. Towed to Hyundai for diagnostic test. I leave my home at 4:30 a.m. every morning driving 30 miles on the beltway to work. Imagine the danger, Stopping Cold on the beltway, in the dark alone with no power for emergency lights to warn approaching traffic of the danger. I travel with my family in my SUV on the beltway daily. I no longer trust this vehicle, and I’ve requested to be reimbursed; my vehicle is my livelihood and it’s my life and the lives of my family each day that I get into this SUV. SUV is paid off. Rockville Hyundai’s finding was a faulty alternator and battery. The original battery was in the SUV with the first incident, still I’m terrified to drive this SUV. I researched possible causes for my SUV performing in this manner and my research yielded, and I quote: “Electronic troubles with the 2022 Palisade Calligraphy often involve dashboard warning lights, driver-assist malfunctions, instrument cluster failures, and even engine shutdowns, frequently linked to issues like a faulty alternator, low battery voltage, or problems with the instrument cluster itself (Recalls), with some owners reporting dangerous situations like loss of steering assist or vehicle power loss on the highway.” On 1/6/26 on the beltway, the battery light and other warning indicators lit up; radio went dead, all warning indicators on the dashboard lit up; experienced loss of steering assist; and the dashboard went black instantly. I reached home, and parked; lights on the dashboard came back on, and I turned the engine off. On 1/7/26 I drove to Hyundai for another diagnostic test. 1/21/26 SUV still in service.

I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding multiple ongoing and serious issues with my 2022 Hyundai Palisade. These issues not only diminish the performance and reliability of the vehicle but also raise significant safety and quality concerns. Below are the problems I have encountered: 1.Thermostat and Coolant System Defects: Like many other owners of the 2022 Hyundai Palisade, I have experienced problems with the thermostat and coolant system. My vehicle has exhibited signs of overheating, posing risks to the engine’s longevity and safety. 2.Radiator Leak: I have identified a radiator leak, which is troubling for a relatively new vehicle. This suggests a defect in the materials or assembly, as this should not be occurring under normal operating conditions. 3.Oil Pan and Filter Housing Issues: •The oil pan has developed a crack, which is highly unusual, especially since Hyundai has performed all of my vehicle’s oil changes. This raises concerns about part quality and service handling. •Additionally, I have noticed oil leaking from the oil filter housing. This leak not only raises concerns about engine performance but also indicates a potential flaw in the design or installation of the oil filter system. 4.Faulty Sensors: My vehicle’s sensors frequently activate without any nearby objects or obstacles. These false alerts are a serious distraction while driving and undermine the effectiveness of the car’s safety features. 5.Key Fob Malfunctions: While driving, I have repeatedly encountered the “key not in vehicle” warning, despite the key being present inside the car. This issue is not only an inconvenience but also a potential safety risk if it disrupts the vehicle’s operations unexpectedly. The combination of these defects is unacceptable for a vehicle of this age and reputation. These problems suggest significant flaws in manufacturing, design, or maintenance practices that Hyundai should address immediately.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and jerked significantly. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, a message advising of an unknown error was displayed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light started flashing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, and the dealer performed approximately four oil consumption tests and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the engine; however, the engine failures persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure was related to the cold weather. The dealer replaced the spark plugs; however, the jerking failure increased while driving, and the vehicle felt as if the vehicle was going to stall. Additionally, the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption. The contact stated the message "Engine Overheating" was displayed while driving. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road for an hour, and coolant was added to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was driven to the dealer at slow speeds on the expressway, but the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be serviced, and the contact was advised that the vehicle could be driven to the residence because coolant was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was driven and parked at the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was awaiting a call back. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The forward safety breaking in this model is going to kill someone, hopefully not me as I am careful to manually disable it every time I start the car. Otherwise it applies the breaks at dangerous moments. Most often it happens when trees overhang the road, sometimes it is overhead road signs. I am not always sure what the cause is but having my breaks applied hard in the middle of merging multi lane highways is most definitively dangerous. I understand that on the 2023 model this can be permanently disabled so I suspect Hyundai is well aware of the problem. This problem has occurred to me at least a dozen times, and as I said I try to be very careful to disable it everyone I start the car.

I was driving down a road with 50mph speed limit when a few of my dash lights began to come on and then go off. Then about 2minutes later, all the dash lights came on, my display screen went black, my power steering wheel froze up. I safely pulled over to a parking lot. Turned the car off. And it wouldn't start back up. I took it to the Jim Click Hyundai in Tucson to get it diagnosed. The alternator was diagnosed as faulty, therefore killing my battery. This is an extremely unsafe circumstance for my 2 year old car to be going through. I cannot believe that this happend. I had to pay for a new battery at the dealership. Now not even 2 months later... my car wouldn't start. I waited 10minutes, it turned on, but it looked like it did a factory reset. I will be contacting the dealership...again.
