Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TAILGATE:LATCH

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. Reported consequence: An unlatched tailgate may open and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Service Brakes1 complaint

After the latest update from the Dealer, the integrated trailer brake module no longer shows an output of how much power it's applying to the trailer brake system. It just stays blank. I can tell that the brakes actually are being applied, however not having indication of them being applied and how much pressure is applied is concerning.

NHTSA #11741595

Power Train,Electrical System,Fuel/Propulsion System1 complaint

I was driving and noticed a very strong smell of an electrical fire. The truck popped up a High Voltage Battery warning and several warning lights came on. We stopped, restarted the truck and the lights came on again, the smell returned as soon as we started driving. We drove the truck to Cable Dahmer GMC in Kansas City, MO. Service advisor Kracinda asked us to exit the vehicle as quickly as possible as it needed to be moved away from the building ASAP. It was parked several blocks from the building in a col de sac away from all vehicles. The electrical fire smell was very strong. The manufacturer is now saying that a software update is all that is required.

NHTSA #11737138

Latches/Locks/Linkages1 complaint

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra EV. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the front trunk had erroneously opened. During the failure the vehicle would not shift out of the park position and the warning message indicating that the door was unsecured had displayed. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions and the battery was disconnected to reset the system and correct the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 15,000.

NHTSA #11745082

Structure1 complaint

While on freeway going 75 mph, GMC installed soft tonneau cover came loose from forward anchor points and starting flapping loudly in wind and without quickly stopping would have flown off truck and hit surrounding vehicles.

NHTSA #11658330

Visibility/Wiper1 complaint

The truck bed cover is not secure, it fits in via a channel with no straps or other protections and so when driving on the highway, it flies off from the connection to the cab and you can’t see behind you. It then smacks into the car until you can pull over. There is no protection against this.
