Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Power Train25 complaints

CV axles are covered under the Ford Powertrain Warranty. I am experiencing a driveline vibration consistent with axle failure. I would like a warranty diagnosis and documentation explaining why this is not considered a warrantable defect. Dealerships are refusing to evaluate a powertrain warranty issue involving driveline vibration consistent with axle failure. The vehicle exhibits driveline vibration under normal operation. That is not normal function and indicates a defect under warranty terms. Powertrain issues with axles present a safety concern. I see Ford has superseded the original NZ6Z axle part numbers to SZ6Z and now PZ6Z revisions. That indicates a known issue with earlier components. My vehicle is exhibiting the exact failure symptoms—this should be evaluated under powertrain warranty.

NHTSA #11725681

CV axle fails prematurely, causing vehicle shaking under acceleration, and potentially unsettling vehicle stability at speed. First noticed the shaking at 49K miles. I have not had an opportunity to schedule an appointment with the dealer to have it replaced yet. This is a known issue on these vehicles that Ford has not acknowledged, with many drivers reporting they need the CV axles replaced ever 30k miles or so.

NHTSA #11726541

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving 5 MPH and making a right turn, the vehicle lost power, and the transmission slipped into neutral(N). While driving 25 - 30 MPH and approaching a red light, the transmission slipped into neutral. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V330000 (Power Train) and 25V133000 (Power Train). The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was included in the recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

NHTSA #11725852

While driving highway speeds the vehicle suddenly lost power. Had to immediately pull to the shoulder of the highway with heavy traffic that got very close to my rear bumper due to the sudden decrease in speed. There was no advance warning of power loss. Upon stopping on the shoulder the vehicle was put in park and the key turned to the off position. After a short wait the ignition key was turned to the on position and was able to resume trip at highway speeds. Notified Ford close to my location and it was checked for fault codes and road tested with no defect found., Now concerned that the vehicle might fail again day or night leaving us stranded or causing a vehicle accident due to the sudden reduction in speed.

NHTSA #11717948

Both front CV axles on my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid are failing at approximately 60,000 miles. The vehicle experiences violent shaking and vibration during acceleration, most noticeably at speeds above 30 mph and on inclines. The shaking is severe enough to affect steering control and reduce driver confidence, particularly during highway merging and uphill acceleration. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by San Leandro Ford dealership, which identified both front CV axles as defective and in need of replacement. No warning lamps or message appeared prior to or during the issue. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect. Numerous owners of 2022-2023 Ford Mavericks have reported identical premature CV axle failures at mileages ranging from 10,000 to 60,000 miles, as documented in online forums and prior NHTSA complaints. Some owners have had axles replaced multiple times. The defective CV axles pose a safety risk as the severe vibration compromises vehicle control during normal driving conditions.

NHTSA #11732289

I am reporting a premature and dangerous failure of the front CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly on my 2023 Ford Maverick. While driving at 50 mph the vehicle began experiencing violent, uncontrollable shaking and shuddering in the front end, particularly under acceleration. This is an issue which affects all Mavericks for this model year. Ford has recalled/reimbursed replacements for the 2022 model year but not other ones yet. This failure causes significant instability and compromises steering control, creating a high risk of a crash when merging into traffic or maintaining highway speeds. The vibration is severe enough to distract the driver and could lead to a total loss of motive power if the axle snaps or the joint fully separates.

NHTSA #11708934

While driving the vehicle at low speed (roughy 25mph) a loud sqeek was heard. This occured a few more times so I stopped to inspect. I countinued my trip after not finding the source of the noise. When it occured again, I pulled into a parts store and had them run codes. After finding none I purchased a code scanner so that I could monitor while under way. Once on the highway the sound became more frequent, after just a few miles warning lights appeared on my dash and the vehicle had a complete loss of power. I was able to coast to the side of the road. At that time the vehicle did have code P1061. Dealer diagnosted the truck with a failed transmission. I removed the trasmission and disassembled it. The main shaft had been stripped of it's splines on the gear that connects to the engine. I have a video of the gears and shaft here: [XXX] I saved the parts and will be happy to provide them for investigation if needed. NHTSA #11738381

Vehicle started to have a shake under acceleration. Reported it to multiple dealerships and requested them to specifically observe the CV axles. Finally secured an appointment on 11-24-2025 while vehicle was under factory warranty. Tenvoorde Ford informed me (the owner) that the CV axles were “fine” and a non issue. Shake was still present. Kept driving the vehicle and now, five months later with no factory warranty left on the vehicle, shake still present, and received a second opinion today. CV axle needs replacement. ~68,000 miles on the odometer. I exclusively commute on interstate 94 in central Minnesota, hardly drive in cities. There is no justifiable reason when the vehicle was at the dealership that the CV axle went from being just fine to needing replacement. This is a very common concern with these Ford Mavericks and Ford needs to conduct a recall before people get injured on the public roadways.

NHTSA #11731420

When driving at higher speeds (60-70mph) and needing to pass another vehicle the clutch slips which triggers the accelerator to shut down. Leaving you helpless in the passing lane. All you can do is hope there is space to safely pull off the road and shut the engine off. This puts it in limp mode.

NHTSA #11706253

At 20k miles the vehicle starts shaking back and forth and rattling while accelerating and I brought it to the dealership and its being serviced under warranty to get both front CV axels replaced. It was shaking so badly and vibrating the whole vehicle, the dealership told me it was unsafe to drive when they saw how badly the axels failed. There were no warnings or check engine lights. Especially dangerous because it doesn't shake at low speeds only when accelerating and at high speeds.

NHTSA #11695713

The 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid is experiencing a recurring safety failure of the Front CV Axle Shafts. The vehicle exhibits violent, uncontrollable shaking of the front end during acceleration at highway speeds (40–65 MPH). This severe vibration compromises vehicle stability and steering control, creating a significant safety risk during merging or overtaking maneuvers. The vehicle was previously repaired for this exact issue by an authorized Ford dealer on May 30, 2024 (at ~32,000 miles). However, the failure has recurred 18 months and 33,000 miles later. Inspection of the current failed parts reveals that during the 2024 warranty repair, the dealership installed obsolete, superseded part numbers (Series "NZ", specifically NZ67-3B436) instead of the updated, corrected design (Series "SZ") released by Ford to fix this known defect. Because the dealership replaced defective parts with the same defective/superseded design, the safety hazard has returned prematurely. The defect was previously confirmed by a dealer technician. The current failure is confirmed by visual inspection of the part labels showing the obsolete "NZ" code. No warning lights appeared prior to failure; the symptom is immediate mechanical vibration under load.

NHTSA #11702163

Vehicle started shaking during acceleration above 40 mph. Felt like the wheels were going to come off. The issue is that the front axle drive shafts are very corroded and failing.

NHTSA #11691050

CV axles failed at 30,000 miles, repaired under warranty. Replaced axles have failed again at 60,000 miles, no warranty. No hard driving, simply highway miles. This seems to be common in these vehicles and need to be recalled for defective parts. This has caused me poor fuel mileage, damage to new tires, instability while driving, and possible unknown damage to transaxle.

NHTSA #11683637

Both front axles had to be replaced at 62000 miles. Just about of fords power train warranty. Have read multiple issues of these trucks having the same problem.

NHTSA #11676423

PREMATURE CV axle failure due to regenerative braking. This cause violent wobble leading to the death wobble

NHTSA #11696527

The front of the vehicle started shaking with acceleration. This shaking became worse and vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was brought to ford dealership and they will be replacing the front half shafts and brackets.

NHTSA #11667943

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brakes made a loud screeching sound and the vehicle surged forward before coming to a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the passenger’s side axle was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

NHTSA #11666056

I bought a pre-owned "Gold Certified" 2023 Ford Maverick from a Ford dealer. The vehicle had around 32,000 or so miles at purchase. Soon after purchase, discovered that while accelerating from around 50-60 mph, the front end of the vehicle started heavily shaking without warning. The vehicle was taken to the Ford dealer who informed us that both front axles needed to be replaced. They informed us that they have seen this issue with other Ford Mavericks. The repairs were covered under warranty, and nobody was injured. This is an unsettling, since I have seen on this website numerous complaints about this same issue. Yet there has not been a TSB or recall to my knowledge.

NHTSA #11660997

23,450 miles today for an oil change. Both CV are bad. Drivers side is terrible with no parts eta. Passages is leaking grease and about to go as well per the tech. That is not the first I’ve heard of this but at 23,000 miles is insane. This could cause an accident if failing while turning.

NHTSA #11634149

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel started shaking, prompting the contact to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was pulled over, and a squealing, clicking, and grinding sound started coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions and was diagnosed with a CV shaft failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

NHTSA #11733525

The vehicle shakes during acceleration, specifically in the 40mph-65mph range. The shaking is worst around 55-60mph, especially—but not exclusively—when accelerating from a stop. The shaking does not occur at these speeds while coasting; acceleration prompts the issue. This is a known problem among 2022 Maverick owners, according to online forums including Maverick Truck Club, Reddit, and influencers on YouTube. Drivers widely report that the CV Axle is the culprit here, and report that replacing the CV Axle alleviates the shaking.

I am experiencing a serious safety issue with my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid, which involves powertrain malfunction and sudden loss of power while driving. The issue first appeared on [XXX], when I received a Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power warning in the FordPass app and noticed that the vehicle was losing power intermittently. Since then, I have taken my vehicle to the dealership three times for diagnostics and repairs, but the issue persists. Service history and failed repair attempts: [XXX] – I visited Folsom Lake Ford to address this issue, but the dealer claimed the vehicle was “operating normally.” [XXX] – I took my car to Future Ford of Sacramento, requesting diagnostics and repairs for the transmission. The dealership replaced the CV axles but did not acknowledge or resolve the powertrain issue. [XXX] – The same error occurred again, and I returned to Future Ford of Sacramento. The dealer once again failed to find or fix the problem. [XXX] – Hours after picking up the car, the Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power error reappeared in FordPass. Possible Link to Known Ford Maverick Issues: Ford has already issued recalls for similar problems affecting Ford Maverick (2022–2023) and Bronco Sport models related to 12V battery failures that cause power loss. However, my VIN is not included in any official recall, despite showing the same symptoms. This issue is extremely dangerous, as the vehicle unexpectedly loses power while driving, creating a serious risk of an accident, especially on highways. Suspected Fraud by the Dealer: Despite multiple service visits, the dealership has not provided a detailed diagnostic report. I suspect the dealer is simply resetting the error codes instead of fixing the problem. Investigate whether this is a widespread issue among 2023 Ford Maverick models. Determine if Ford should issue a recall for this powertrain problem. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid experienced repeated 12V battery discharge and “Deep Sleep” events associated with Recall 24C01 and SSM 53801. The vehicle repeatedly discharged the 12V battery while parked under normal conditions. In January 2026, after approximately two weeks parked in freezing temperatures, the battery experienced a complete discharge and the vehicle required multiple jump-starts to remain operational. Ford dealer records later confirmed that the corrective action associated with SSM 53801 had not been applied prior to the failure event despite prior complaints and service visits. The repeated discharge events resulted in failure of both: the original factory battery, and a replacement AGM battery installed at owner expense. This condition created repeated stranded events and loss of vehicle reliability. I am submitting this complaint because the issue appears directly related to documented parasitic drain conditions already acknowledged by Ford in Recall 24C01 and SSM 53801, and because the failure condition persisted before corrective action was finally applied.

NHTSA #11737841

"2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid (VIN: [XXX] ). The vehicle has a chronic 12V parasitic drain defect. Authorized dealer Champaign Ford City provided false information, stating software was current when it was not. This led to a 100% discharge in freezing temperatures, requiring multiple jump-starts to reach the dealer. This discharge destroyed a high-quality owner-purchased AGM battery. Despite Safety Recall 25S02 mandating no-cost battery replacements for these vehicles, the dealer charged me for a Ford battery. Safety concern: Vehicle unreliability in sub-zero temperatures and dealer failure to adhere to federal recall reimbursement guidelines." I had a problem once with the interface module, and since it was still under warranty, the Ford dealership in Fairfield, California replaced it and at 3:32 AM today January 3, 2026. The interface module turned off for a couple seconds and then turned back on which was basically the same problem as it was when I complained and had them replace it.

I believe the OEM 12v battery that is used in the Ford Maverick hybrid is underpowered and has issues that seem to plague the vehicle. I’ve owned the truck for almost two years now and started getting “battery saver” alerts when the truck would sit for a few days over the week or during a vacation. But recently I’ve been getting the warning far more frequently and not even siting for more than 24 hours. Last month I had a warning that the power could turn off at any moment and need to pull over immediately. The warning went away after powering the vehicle down and turning back on. Last weekend the car was completely dead after using it all week and only letting it sit Saturday evening to Monday morning. The battery seems to be an issue that plagues the vehicle and I think an investigation needs to be conducted to have this corrected. I even see new 2025 models having similar issues.

Hybrid Ford Maverick electrical system began to go into a save battery mode -no interior lights, only driver side door operated, and other system failures. Dealer replaced battery under warranty and general recall for this issue. A few months later same characteristics started showing up -interior lights not working, only driver's side door operational, etc. This time the warranty had expired and the dealer, along with Ford Motor, told me any repairs would be at my expense, 100%. I feel problem was never resolved, even with replacement battery. Ford and dealer should address this problem. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this battery and electrical issue. After all, there was a full recall for the battery failure. Having no interior lights, unable to enter except driver's side, and other manifestations are inherently unsafe.

NHTSA #11719477

The 12-volt battery loses charge and issues a warning that remote features have been disabled. This issue has been going on since January 2025. To date, I have recharged the battery 15 times, plus taken it to 2-different Ford dealerships for warranty service. Both were unable to resolve the problem. Beginning with the 2025 model year, Ford commenced installing AGM 12-volt batteries which resolved the problem. The vehicle is still under warranty but the dealerships simply recharge the battery and return the vehicle. My vehicle is not part of the Ford recall for this problem. The root cause appears to be poor quality Chinese batteries used in the early model years.

Vehicle information: Ford Maverick 2023 Hybrid, with roughly 37,000 miles, observed failure on [XXX]. The failed component/system is the A/C evaporator condensation drain system. The drain line became clogged, which I believe is a critical defect in either the design, component, or construction of the drainage system. The lack of a fail-safe in this system, instead of draining water outside of the vehicle, the condensation backed up and leaked directly into the vehicle's cabin onto the driver and passenger side footwells. The vehicle is currently at the dealership (Windward Ford), undergoing diagnosis/repair, and available for inspection upon request. The pooling of a large volume of water on both the driver and passenger side floorboards to include the path of where the water originates as it collects at the footwell, creates an unreasonable risk of safety failure due to the proximity of critical electrical systems; fire/short circuit risk, loss of vehicle control due to damage to electronic modules from water intrusion, as well as health hazard with prolonged saturation of pores material resulting to mold and mildew growth. The issue has been reproduced at the dealership (Windward Ford), and confirmed that the issue is an A/C evaporator drain clog, causing the leak, and the carpet and interior padding were saturated, requiring extensive cleaning and replacement. The failed component/system has been inspected by technicians at the dealership. The diagnosis and repair estimates are on file with the dealership. There were no warning lamp indicators or messages, just the damped smell, which was noticed a few weeks prior to the visual indicator of a water puddle in the floorboard. The odor is a direct result of the ongoing, hidden water leak and saturation of the carpet, indicating a slow, chronic problem caused by the defect. The throttle body component of the vehicle failed at approximately 40,000 miles. While this is an engine component that experiences normal wear and tear, throttle body valves fail anywhere between 75,000 and 100,000 miles. I have owned previous vehicles, each crossing the 100,000-mile mark, with no replacement or concern with the throttle body. My concern with this vehicle's throttle body relates to the outdoor weather conditions when the vehicle reported an issue. The outside air temperature was 3 degrees Fahrenheit with moderate winds and a wind chill of approximately -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Researching online, this appears to be a recurrent issue among other owners of this particular vehicle. When started, the vehicle appeared to misfire, potentially entering limp mode. An amber wrench light illuminated, indicating to have the vehicle serviced, and the engine light illuminated, indicating a problem with the emissions system. Additionally, the vehicle pushed a notification to my smartphone that stated the following: "The engine control system has detected the electronic throttle body is not responding as commanded and requires service." The vehicle was turned off and sat for 15 minutes. When the vehicle was restarted, the wrench light turned off, but the engine light remained on, not flashing. The vehicle operated normally, with no misfire. The failure of the throttle body in adversely cold conditions may cause the engine to stall or misfire, decreasing driver control and increasing the potential of a crash. It is of concern that this component seems to have failed early compared to other vehicles currently on the market. I believe the weather to be a contributing factor. The servicing dealership has confirmed that the throttle body must be replaced and has the appropriate part on back order. As this vehicle was not involved in an accident, no police reports or insurance claims have been filed. I plan on reaching out to the manufacturer to address these concerns.

I returned to Freeport Ford on 01/30/25 for the same issue, violent shaking when accelerating worse on an incline..They told me it was tires and that the 2 fronts had to be replaced 4/32 tread at this point they placed the 2 good rear tires on the front which didn't change a thing, I ordered 2 new tires, and on 01/31/25 took to a Chevrolet dealer in Freeport (friend of mine), they diagnosed that i had 2 faulty CV axles, i let Freeport Ford know of this diagnosis. New tires were installed 02/04/25 on the rear, still didn't change a thing, i told them I had checked the Maverick Forums and found out several complaints about faulty CV axles prematurely failing, at this point they stated they have ordered me a new set of axles, and let me drive out of the dealership on those faulty axles..Now playing the waiting game to see if axles come in first or if a catastrophic axles failure occurs first. Total 12v battery drain/failure which is a known problem with the Ford Maverick Hybrid, could not even put hazards on to avoid getting hit on the side of the road. Ford tests battery and says battery is good, but the problem is the Maverick Hybrid is not adequately charging the battery when it is driven.

NHTSA #11662121

Since new in Sept 2023 this vehicle has suffered from consistent charging problems with the 12 volt battery, it sends "deep sleep" warnings to the Ford App and disables certain safety features. Charging the battery only restores functionality temporarily, driving the car ends up depleting the 12 volt battery over time. It affects all Ford Maverick Hybrids including mine.

The wiring harness on this vehicle is made of a soy based material, I had a rodent chew through this coating and my wiring harness, it caused my rear turn signal to go out, I have a 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on the vehicle but Ford does not cover this, you have to pay to have it fixed yourself and they replace it with the same material, I am worried that it will happen again and again I will have to pay to have it fixed, I feel that Ford should be responsible for this and have it fixed. I found out that Ford is not the only manufacturer that uses this product.

Bad CV axles causing vibration while accelerating.

NHTSA #11652687

I recently reported my Ford maverick for the failure of the front right CV joint/axle at 22k miles. Well when I picked it up from Ford. They notified me that the front left is also bad. And I'm at 23k miles. These are clearly an issue that's happening everywhere.

NHTSA #11646623

The cv joint axles are failing. No axles on a new car or truck should EVER fail under 100k miles. Ford maverick axles are failing at under 50k miles. And mine failed at 22k miles. And Ford will only replace 1 at a time. Not only is this a manufacturer defect that can cause accidents or injury but Ford needs to yet again be held accountable. No one pays good money for a factory faulty vehicle.

Power Train,Electrical System3 complaints

12 volt electrical system no power. Dealer changed battery cable wiring harness. Received vehicle back. One week later vehicle exhibited no 12 volt power. Informed that it could be the Thinkware dash cam. Which was purchased from Ford and Ford dealer installed. Now informed that it could be the dash cam itself. The dash cam was installed via the OBD port which is always powered. This will drain the 12 volt battery unless vehicle is driven for extended periods. Ford is aware of the issue but no remedy for over 3 weeks. I have told the Ford dealer to have the dash cam installed so that when the ignition is on the dash cam is also powered on and off when the ignition switch is turned off. Using this method negates the parking mode on the dash cam. Another issue is when the drivers side door is opened the interior lights do not activate. Ford notified. Problem not resolved. Low 12 volt battery issue?

On Tuesday, [XXX], my wife and I were driving her, new to her, 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT, that we purchased from Stuckey Ford in Bellefonte, PA on [XXX]. She was behind the wheel. We were heading west on [XXX] and had just passed into Pennsylvania by crossing the Delaware River. The check engine light and battery lights went on suddenly & we immediately lost power. The power steering was no longer working, but the brakes were. As we were in the passing lane going 65 mph & there was an 18-wheeler in the right lane, we could not cross two lanes to reach the Matamoras exit ramp. She steered into the median between lanes to our left. The Maverick would not start. We were about 6" off the left hand white line of the west bound passing lane. I called 911 who sent a PA State Trooper to park behind us with his flashers on. We were towed off the [XXX] exit ramp to a garage. We tried to start the truck five times, it would not start. The sixth time it did start but when the tow truck operator tried it, the truck only started intermittently. We called the nearest Ford Dealer, Healy in Goshen, NY. We were towed to Healy the same afternoon. They said their diagnostics could find no problems. Their invoice is attached. Since the event on [XXX], the Maverick has not turned on when the key is turned & brake pedal depressed multiple times. When this happens the same two lights (check engine & battery) stay on. Saturday [XXX] I was driving on the [XXX] in SW PA and as I attempted to accelerate there was no power. I looked down at my transmission dial and it was set in neutral. I rolled the dial back to drive and pushed the gas and was able to accelerate. This is the 5th TIME this has happened in this vehicle 3 while driving on the Interstate, 2 while accelerating after a stop. Apparently there is a fix for this, recall 23V330/24S33 . I have been working with a local ford dealer to rectify the situation but it has not been resolved. I guess they updated most of the modules in my truck hoping to unlock a TCM update to preform the correct recall but it didn't work so they can not do the correct update to fix this problem. Visibility/Wiper3 complaints

Recall 24S51 from Ford says that 87,000 Maverick trucks have had the wiper motor fail due to moisture getting into the housing due to a sealant problem with the supplier. The recalled VINs can have a free inspection and replacement. I believe my VIN is also impacted by this problem because 37 months and 31,000 miles into my car, my wipers failed. I was driving in light rain and the wipers would only go up about 6" from their resting position before returning to the resting position, then repeat the same thing. Thankfully the rain wasn't so heavy that I had to stop and could continue driving home (very carefully!). We've had a very dry winter, so I haven't used my wipers in months. The prior week before the failure, we had a big snow/rain storm spanning two days with about 1.5" of moisture coming down. Hence, I think this storm precipitated, literally, my issue. I took my Maverick to the Ford dealership for a hitch recall, asking about this wiper motor recall problem at the same time. I picked up my truck today and after it's been sitting in the sun, my wipers work again. It sure seems that when moisture is getting into the housing, the wipers fail, then the sun dries it out, then the wipers work. Note, my truck is not garaged. I believe my VIN should be part of the 24S51 or 24-594 recall. Since in my almost 60 years of driving, I've never had a failure of a windshield wiper motor in this way, it seems to be a very rare thing to occur. With a recall of this part in other Mavericks similar to mine, I think mine is actually affected as well.

When having the vehicle in reverse, the rear-camera’s image oftentimes freezes for several moments which causes unreal expectations of what is actually in the rear and how close objects actually are. This has caused fear to my wife, and she prefers not to drive the vehicle in part due to this unresolved issue.

NHTSA #11643923

Shortly after startup the infotainment screen on my Maverick froze. After shifting into reverse it was unable to display the reverse camera image. I attempted several shifts between Drive, Park, and Reverse and it remained frozen. I attempted a short key cycle, powering the truck down, including opening the drivers door in an attempt to cycle power to the infotainment and upon restart it remained frozen. After arriving at my destination and leaving the power off for 10-15 minutes it returned to normal behavior on the next key cycle. I have video of the failure occurring, including attempted solutions noted above.

Electrical System,Unknown Or Other3 complaints

While traveling at speed there was a severe malfunction of the vehicle's stereo system. While driving the stereo was initially silent but later began to produce extremely loud noise/static. The volume of the noise was so extreme I had to take my hands off the steering wheel to cover my ears. The stereo did not respond to any power or volume input to stop the sound and I was forced to quickly pull over to the side of the road to turn off and exit the vehicle. The sound only stopped after exiting the vehicle and locking with the key fob. There were no warning signals prior to this failure. I have experienced this problem several times in the past while the vehicle was parked, when first starting the vehicle. This was the first instance of experiencing the problem while driving, within the first 1 minute after starting the vehicle. The stereo was initially on and set to a reasonable volume level, but was malfunctioning and completely silent. After driving for ~45 seconds the stereo began producing this extremely loud noise. I have found several reports of similar stereo issues with the Ford Maverick and also F150 trucks that are equipped with a similar B&O sound system. This malfunction could potentially lead to an extremely dangerous situation, inability to safely operate the vehicle, and loss of situational awareness. I have dash cam footage of the incident, which I can provide upon request.

Where wife refuses to get back in. Also the initial sound wife said she smelt smoke. I faintly smelled a burnt wire smell. The next day while driving the system made more of the static/ electrical noise and didn’t stop until I parked and shut off system for about 10 min. I will be taking truck into dealer ship tomorrow.

On [XXX], I was involved in a backing accident that was significantly caused by the subject of this recall (Manufacturer Recall Number24S59, NHTSA Recall Number24V684). When I put my vehicle in reverse, the rear view camera came on. However, what I didn't realize was that the image displayed on it froze shortly after the camera turned on making it appear that it was clear behind me and safe to back. But another vehicle had pulled off of the street and stopped right behind me immediately after I put it in reverse and was looking at the frozen image that it was clear and safe to back. The car behind me was shorter than my vehicle and had pulled in behind me in the drive-thru line at somewhat of an angle, so only the front of their vehicle was directly behind me and the rest of out of view of my rear view mirror. I was trying to back, because the drive-thru was two lanes and the right lane I was in was backed up due to a delay and an employee was waving me to come to the left lane since it was open and available. Because the other customer had just pulled in behind my vehicle from the street while my rear view camera was displaying a frozen image of when it was clear behind my vehicle, when I backed slowly, my rear bumper cracked the other car's front bumper. Because of Ford's safety issue, I have incurred an expensive liability claim for damages to the other party's vehicle. Eninge started knocking, flashed warnings to pull over immediately. I did and had the vehicle towed to Westway Ford in Irving. Their investigation showed the engine needs a full rebuild and they are claiming it is not covered under warranty. They shared pictures & a written repair estimate. Doing an analysis of the pictures they took and their description of what happened, combined with what I experienced and observed, this appears to be a textbook case of the behavior and outcome of the mechanical failure described in recall 23S27.

Loss of motive control ongoing issue. This is documented problem being investigated by NTHSA, R2Q4014. Functional issue: • Engine flips into Neutral unexpectedly. Vehicle coasts to a stop, where it flips into Park on its own. • Vehicle requires a restart to move gear out of Neutral. After restarting vehicle, vehicle can operate on limited power that maxes out at about 35 mph. Acceleration is dramatically reduced, gradually ramping up as the vehicle continues to drive — the acceleration pedal does not control speed. Coming to a complete stop while driving with the vehicle in this reduced power mode requires another gradual ramp up to speed, making typical street driving difficult because it may take 30-45 seconds for the vehicle to ramp up to adequate speed (ramp from zero to 35mph), frustrating other drivers behind he vehicle who may think the slow speed is intentional. • After the vehicle has sat powered down for a number of minutes, it can be started up again at full power. I have seen this refractory period as low as 15 minutes and as high at 45-ish minutes. This issue has happened to me multiple times, 9 as of last count. Ford has attempted a fix twice now, and the issue persists. I would be happy to discuss full experience and how Ford has responded, or rather not responded, with your investigative team. Thank you for looking into this issue.

While driving on the highway at normal speed in normal conditions, I suddenly lost ABS, traction control, downhill assist, hold assist, AdvanceTrac, Cruise control, and a severe reduction of power. The engine went into limp mode and would not rev past 3k RPM. This made driving on the highway very dangerous as I could not keep up speed and risked getting rear-ended. The wrench icon came on, as well as ABS and traction control. Cruise control would not work. Messages appeared stating "Service engine soon", "Service AdvanceTrac", "Downhill assist issue", "Hold assist issue", and a few more I can't recall. Sometimes they go away on its own and the vehicle works fine, sometimes restarting the vehicle clears the issue. This exact situation has occurred twice in the past 6000 miles driven. Both occurred while driving at highway speeds, once on I85N and once on I75N in GA. Our 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid suddenly and unexpectedly loss power and shutdown. This forced us to make an emergency stop and attempt to pull over in high speed, heavy traffic in both instances. The vehicle eventually restarted and was drivable with a check engine light illuminated. The DTCs were read with an OBDII scanner and were recorded as P0811, P0E71 and P1920. The first time this occur the vehicle was taken back to Ford under warranty and they said they reprogrammed the PCM and another control module and assured us it was repaired. Obviously that is not the case. The vehicle is currently with Ford being diagnosed. Please follow up on this one. We're not the only Maverick Hybrid owners to have this unfortunate and very unsafe experience. This situation of a vehicle suddenly dying in heavy traffic is going to get someone killed. Thanks in advance for your consideration in this matter. We would like a better explanation from Ford besides "We reprogrammed a computer".

I purchased the 2023 ford maverick xlt with about 12,000 miles in may, right from the start I started having problems with the steering freezing up, almost hit a wall exiting the freeway, a few times it happened close to my house, it happens without warning, the warning "steering assist fault service required"comes up on dashboard , I have gone to the dealer a few times, the first time they said they had taken care of it, but I drove the truck after and later the steering froze up again, I took it in again and they said it was the steering column, it had a internal fault, so I left the vehicle there and next day they called me that the vehicle was ready, so I drove it home which is about eight miles from the dealer, no sooner had I was about to turn in the driveway that the steering froze on me, I borrowed my wife's car and went to the dealer told them what happened and the manager said to take it in again so they could check it , but I told the manager that I couldn't because iam afraid to drive the truck for my safety and other innocent people, so my truck sits in my driveway unable to drive it.

While traveling 80 MPH using cruise control, the vehicle speed suddenly reduced and several warning lights illuminated. The three warnings were Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, Service Engine Soon Warning, and Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power. The accelerator pedal did not work but I was able to coast to the nearest exit. I stopped, turned the vehicle off and back on a few times but the warning lights would come back on. When I shifted the transmission into Drive the vehicle would take off on its own. I drove the remaining 30 miles just letting the vehicle accelerate on its own because the pedal did not work. It wouldn't accelerate over 35 MPH. The vehicle would still pull when I applied the brakes. Once home, I turned the vehicle off for an hour. When I turned it on the warning lights no longer illuminated and the vehicle drove normal.

NHTSA #11658823

On 1028/24, driving at approximately 55 mph in the right lane of a local highway, the front collision braking system engaged almost totally stopping my vehicle. There were no vehicles, animals, nor pedestrians in front of my vehicle. I was able to pull to the shoulder. The collection detection icon appeared on the screen, as well as the check engine light, and the wrench. Then a message saying collision warning system unavailable, then service vehicle immediately. The drive gear dial remained in drive (D) position and was flashing. From there, with my warning light activated, I was able to get the vehicle to go up to 25 mph in order to drive to the Ford dealership nearby. I was told by the service department that they operate on appointments only, I would "try to look at it soon." The Ford Pass App states a powertrain malfunction, pre-collision assist not available, and service engine soon warning. Even if the system resets itself when vehicle turned back on, it is totally unsafe to drive in traffic not knowing if these systems will unexpected fail again, causing an accident and injury. I understand that this problem has occurred with other drivers on this model in the recent past.

This vehicle will reduce or cut throttle application/response relative to how many degrees the steering wheel is turning. When trying to pull out in traffic if you have the wheel turned beyond a set angle the throttle doesn't respond as expected and acceleration is greatly reduced. It will also cut the throttle if you pull out and then turn only to fully accelerate as the wheel is straightened out again. Two very dangerous examples I've experienced are 1: pulling onto a "freeway" that has a few side roads with perpendicular access. With the wheel turned the truck is very slow to accelerate when first pulling onto the expressway but suddenly will as the wheel is straightened. 2: When going across 2 lanes of traffic and making a turn to join traffic the truck will accelerate as expected across the first lanes, loose power as you turn, and then accelerate fully again as the wheel is straightened. While an argument could be made to just sit and wait until there is more time to join traffic, there are moments when being able to accelerate hard are necessary. This vehicle will either not accelerate or will reduce acceleration based on angles of steering. I believe this is a dangerous situation that most experienced drivers are not going to be expecting when they have to join fast moving traffic. Following web forums this is an issue other owners have experienced.

During acceleration from 40-60 miles per hour, there was a pronounced vibration/shudder through the front end of the vehicle. After taking it to the dealership, they advised both front axles would need to be replaced. The catastrophic failure of an axle is likely to cause a car crash. The problem has been identified by Ford Motor Company and also confirmed by the Ford Dealership where I got it fixed. Ford Motor Company issued Customer Satisfaction Program 25N09 On September 17, 2025. My vehicle is a 2023 model year, but produced at the same plant and in the same time frame as the the ones mentioned in 25N09. There were no warning lamps or messages about the problem. The only indication was the heavy vibration a few thousand miles prior to getting it looked at.

I had been driving for 2 hours on the interstate when the truck starts losing power and warning lights start flashing. I got the truck to the shoulder before it slammed to a stop. I turned the engine off and waited until all the power turned off before restarting. The truck would only run in limp mode at 35 mph. I drove on the shoulder of the interstate to the next exit. I disconnected the battery and reconnected which allowed me to drive it normally to the dealership. After two days the dealer called to say they didn’t see any codes and there wasn’t anything wrong with it even after I sent pictures of the warning messages. This is the 5th time this has happened under similar circumstances.

I took my vehicle in to have the transmission looked at. The dealership told me that the problem was resolved. While driving down the road the transmission went into park in the middle of a two lane road. When the vehicle came to a complete stop I was stopped in the middle of the lane and the vehicle transmission would not shift out of park. After getting it to another shop where it is currently located I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that this is a problem that they are seeing in several Ford vehicles. I contacted Ford who stated that there are no current recalls for this problem. Obvious safety concerns are not being able to control the vehicle when it shifts to park while driving as well as being stopped in the middle of the roadway where a collision is likely.

On acceleration from a stand still or in motion, the vehicle will start to shake/wobble pretty violently. It will go away when letting go of the gas. Seems to be coming from the front end wheels. Going under the car and checking all connecting points, the CV axle has a lot of play. You can move it around.

I was feeling a shaking throughout while driving. I took it into the dealership to have it looked at as it is a fairly new vehicle with less than 25k miles on it. They informed me that both of the CV Axles had gone out and were replaced. I was so shocked as those are supposed to last a fairly long time on a vehicle. I researched and it appears several Maverick owners have experienced the same thing, with some stating they be gone out twice before 34k miles and some as early as 10k miles. When I asked if it was a good thing I brought it in, the advisor told me absolutely it was as it is a huge safety issue if left unfixed. There were no warning lights for it nor any recall for it. I most certainly believe there needs to be something done about this.

I had the recall work done for the back up camera that freezes while I am reversing. After the recall has been completed, it still freezes/glitches while I'm backing up. Nothing changed after they performed the recall work. I do believe that the technician performed the work he was told to, but it hasn't accomplished anything. The rear view camera still takes a few seconds to engage once I put the car in reverse, and while I am in reverse, actively backing up the car, the camera feed freezes repeatedly on-screen.

Both the Blind Spot and Cross Traffic warning systems work erratically or not at all. Even after software update and reset. Cross traffic will sense a small car then ignore the bus next? Same with Blind Spot very inconsistent or not functional! Dealer is less than helpful. Any trip to the dealer means leaving your vehicle with them all day so they can put off working on it until the last minute.

Started Vehicle, pulled out of a parking spot and I slowly approached an intersection, the engine accelerated at a high rpm/rate without touching the gas pedal, I immediately firmly applied brakes, the card was jerking and shaking hard working against brakes, I immediately turned car off. It could have easily ran into a car or person, being that I was on a city street with pedestrians crossing and car traffic. When I restarted, it did not want to move at all. I then restarted it a second time and it drove normal. No lights or warnings appeared. It was at Ford dealer getting all recalls repaired about 2 weeks ago and were completed to my knowledge. The contact owned a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, another vehicle driving at approximately 20 MPH crashed into the front passenger side. The vehicle came to a stop at a ditch after the crash. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a rotator cuff tear and a pinched nerve. It is unknown if the other three people in the other vehicle sustained any injuries. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 37,000.

While driving down US-69, while attempting to pass a vehicle at about 80 mph, the vehicle shut off and proceeded to stop accelerating, as well as started to slow itself down. The instrument cluster flashed quickly before shutting off, and the radio also shut off. The cabin lights came on, and I had to switch to the right lane to quickly get onto the side of the road where it gradually slowed itself down and threw itself into park. I had taken the key out, and simply turned it back on, and everything seemed to work as normal after the fact. There were no indicators that this would happen, it was sudden and almost caused me to get rear ended by a semi truck.

Started to develop a rumble/stumble upon acceleration. It seems to be getting worse. Finally took it in the dealer. The dealer confirmed that it is the CV axles. They need replacing. Dealer said no parts in stock and not sure when they will arrive. WTH. I asked about driving and they said keep on motoring. What. How can this be good for all the other connected parts! It shutters so bad I am not confident it will not cause me to have an accident. This is a major issue with the drive-line components. Ford needs to issue a recall and redesign this part or I will be replacing these again at my cost. I only have 39k milage

My wife and I were involved in an accident where we were stopped and a vehicle rear-ended us at approximately 45mph, centered on the rear of the truck. My wife was in the passenger seat and I was driving. My seat collapsed backwards completely, and my wife's seat collapsed within about 2 inches of the rear seat. When mine collapsed, the headrest came out most of the way, and I slid backwards, hitting the top, back of my head on the rear seat just below the head rest, breaking the skin and leaving a mark of blood visible in the photos.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated the check warning engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve sensor had failed. The sensor inside the valve failed due to condensation getting into the valve and short-circuiting the sensor. The EGR valve sensor had been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

Suspension,Power Train,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

At approximately 37,000 miles, the CV axles on my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid required replacement due to premature wear. Now, at around 62,200 miles, the vehicle is experiencing excessive vibration and shaking during acceleration, particularly noticeable at moderate to high speeds. This issue appears to be related to the powertrain or suspension system and may indicate a recurring or unresolved problem with the CV axles or associated components. The vibrations are severe enough to affect vehicle control, especially during lane changes or merging onto highways. When accelerating to merge into highway traffic, the vehicle shakes and vibrates so profusely that it feels like the car is going to shake apart. This makes it difficult to accelerate normally and safely, putting both the driver and surrounding vehicles at risk. The shaking could lead to loss of traction or steering instability, increasing the likelihood of an accident. This issue has been widely reported by other Ford Maverick owners and has been a frequently discussed problem in forums and owner communities for over a year. Despite its prevalence, there appears to be no long-term fix other than replacing the CV axle assembly with the same OEM part, which may be the root cause of the problem. That is why I feel it is important to bring this to your attention — it is a known issue with no real correction, and it continues to affect vehicle safety. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to the onset of the problem. The component is available for inspection upon request.

Note: Nobody was hurt, I am pre-emptively reporting this as I see it as a potentially dangerous issue. Transmission can jump/nudge the car a bit, especially in cold starts and if the engine is under load (e.g. AC or Heat). I've seen it online in Reddit reported, but mine seems to be a fairly strong version of it. It occurs pretty much every time the engine is cold. As I learned in a trip, if you don't press the brake hard enough, it can move. We did a road trip. I was stopped at a light (fully stopped). Brakes were pressed hard enough to not move, but not 'to the floor'. The vehicle jumped and moved about a foot into the crosswalk when I was stopped properly before then. Freaked me out. Nobody was in the crosswalk, so thankfully nobody was hurt. But this could be very dangerous behavior in a city where there are a lot a people. A surprising lurch when you think it's stopped isn't safe, and is going to create a liability for me. Me living near a big city, it's a worry. I've already brought it to a dealer about this, they said 'it's normal for mavericks' after investigating it for 25 days. I will re-raise this with them, but am not expecting much. I ran the truck with a diagnostic tool I own, no codes thrown through the bus, no warning lights during the event either. Vehicle was travelling on freeway at freeway speeds suddenly without notable cause the vehicle electrical stopped, giving multiple warning in succession, cutting speed rapidly to 35 mph, with no acceleration pedal response and an automatic speed of 35 on battery power with the ability to break, but with no control of speed and only regulated by break pedal. Pulled vehicle to side of road and put in park, parking break automatically engaged. Vehicle had alarms on all automatic systems being off. Turning vehicle on and off did not effect response. After checking engine visually, was able to turn vehicle on with no alarms or issues. This has happened in both my Mavericks and almost led to a fatal collision in the 2022 Maverick.

Other1 complaint

I have just recently bought a brand new truck, a hybrid model. Not a single mile on it when I purchased it, and I strongly feel that I almost died or caused an accident, completely not my fault but the truck’s fault. This has happened on 3 separate occasions. The first two times, as I was driving up the highway on a mountain road, I lost power, but just kind of chalked it up to maybe the fuel sloshing around, and no other vehicles were around me. The third time, I was returning home from work, on a busy 4-lane highway that goes across the pass and over the mountains, I was in the left lane, a semi truck was to my right, and a semi truck was behind me, we were passing the slower truck that was on the right, and I was traveling at around 55 mph, the truck completely shut off and was flashing red at me to pull to the side of the road. I lost all power, the steering, gas, and everything was not working. I need to mention that I was in front of semi truck, a larger truck that cannot stop on a dime, so he had to swerve to miss me, as I did not have control of the truck. The slower truck went by me and there was a another pickup truck behind him, and there was a little bit of a gap between them, so I jerked the wheel over and drove into the ditch. It was absolutely frightening, and kind of switched something in my head that I was very close to causing a large crash and maybe a death, of myself or someone else. I was in the ditch and the truck would not start back up. Nothing worked. To add to that, I was in a spot of the mountains that I do not get cell phone service. So I popped the hood and just sat there trying to turn the ignition and start the vehicle. 30 minutes passed and I slammed the hood and got back inside the truck and this time the truck turned over, but it said it was running on electric only, and the check engine light was, so I was able to limp home which was about 30 miles away, driving 20-30 mph. It sent the codes to my phone and I contacted the dealer.
