Had my car in at a Volkswagen dealership for its routine maintenance they called me back, letting me know that I had the head gasket leak and that coolant was leaking.

NHTSA #11741341

Head gasket failure is a known issue for this model. Some owners report failure at 12k miles in for quite some time. I am now faced with this known issue VW has had time to remedy. If it is a known failure why not take care of it especially if it spans across 3 models 2022 - 2024. I should not have to absorb this type of repair 4 years 57k miles in on my vehicle. Of course, everything pops up right as warranties expire. I was refused even dealer “good faith” for being 7,000 miles over the threshold VW powertrain warranty of 4 years 50k miles. Now to find $4638.83 for parts plus whatever labor will be.

NHTSA #11740807

Only 41,000 miles and head gasket is leaking

The EVAP line has a fault, stuck open, affects nothing whatsoever. But has every single light on the dash on. It tells me the brakes don't work, the air bags don't work, the cruise doesn't work. Everything. The confusing thing is some things actually work and some don't. The brakes work, the cruise doesn't. The auto detection doesn't work. What's worse, you can't replace that part. No one sells it. This is absolutely horrendous and very dangerous.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, the low coolant warning light illuminated. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred approximately ten times. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: (15-23-01) Head Gasket Leakage; however, the VIN was not included in the bulletin. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,500.

NHTSA #11730469

My head gasket is leaking and I saw that VW had other complaints about the engine code DNKA for year 2022 and after July 2023 the company had made a decision to redesign the head gasket and coatings. I don’t understand how this isn’t a recall just yet especially knowing that Taos 2022, has many problems than an average car. The dealership says I’m responsible for paying it but yet I have proof that the design of the gasket of my vehicle was a manufactured defect. Please please do something about this or help us that have purchased. I’ve invested 20k into this car and for me taking it in 3,4 times a year isn’t realistic and reliable.

NHTSA #11697374

When taking the vehicle in for service at Safford Brown Volkswagen to replace a faulty EVAP module, we were notified that the cylinder head gasket was leaking and would need to be replaced. This leaking coolant and crack in the head gasket can lead to early engine failure. This seems to be a consistent issue due to a faulty part specific to this vehicle year and make. Volkswagen has released a TSB on the issue but is not offering any recalls or free service to fix the faulty part they produced. The TSB was released on 17th of August 2023.

NHTSA #11668151

Went into Volkswagen dealership as my low coolant light came on. I called early June, they couldn't get me in until June 17th, when I was then told my warranty was barely a week expired. My head gasket needs replaced and Volkswagen is refusing to cover this, knowing full well this has been an issue on thousands of these vehicles.

NHTSA #11671560

Light came on for leak detection pump failure upon starting car. Drove to dealer directly immediately upon looking up indicator light. Felt as if care was misfiring Deal found fuel pump in need of recall repair. Dealer also found coolant leak and recommended engine teardown. Diagnostic found block deck warp over permissible range 0.05m. Requiring full engine replacement. No previous indication of issue, leaking, or over heating. No cause of warp known or can be given. 60K miles on car.

NHTSA #11669062

Car was purchased in August 2021. In August 2022 it was taken in for service at Onion Creek VW in Austin for multiple occurrences of alerts for low coolant level. The dealership topped off the coolant reservoir and said there are no visible leaks and refused to further diagnose. Then in June 2025 with 22,000+ miles the same occurred again. Took it to Vanguard VW in Austin and they diagnosed a bad head gasket.

NHTSA #11668670

The engine head gasket failed and started leaking coolant has been a common issue after only a few thousand miles. My dealer has three VW Taos’s in for head gasket repairs today alone.

NHTSA #11661061

My EPC warning light has come on for the second time in last year. I reported this to VW less than year ago and car just stalled out in middle of very busy intersection so going back to VW again tomorrow

NHTSA #11660260

A vehicle randomly shuts off when stopped in a red light and you have to start it back

NHTSA #11658979

Multiple times while driving the check engine light has come on, followed by some shaking then the car shuts off. Taking it into the dealership for service is of no help as they claim the car is fine, but this keeps happening. Very dangerous and if you read online and complaints on this board this is not an isolated event.

NHTSA #11654983

Purchased 2022 VW Taos SEL new from dealer. Vehicle began using coolent triggering the coolent warning light. Engine light activated and dealer states coolent is leaking from the rear of the head gasket and is affecting the air flow system. Safety risk of engine over heating causing damage or failure. Research shows this is a common problem and a faulty head gasket was used in production. Vehicle is no longer in warranty and no recalls have been issued.

NHTSA #11643182

I own a 2022 VW Taos SE (Purchased New), it has been using up coolant, roughly every 2 months I needed to fill it. Took it to the dealership and they said there is a small leak in the head gasket, which they advised is common for the Taos and advised that VW is aware of this issue. However, when I contacted VW, they are unware of the issue with the Taos. I have a scheduled date to replace the head gaskets, however with VW unaware of the issue my worry is that it will happen again when my car is out of warranty. My safety worry is that my head gaskets will go, ruining my engine, breaking down on the highway with my infant on board. The smoke that would appear from a blown head gasket would impair other drivers visibility possibly causing an accident. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?- Coolant Leaking, Small Leak in Head Gasket. Yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?- My safety worry is that my head gaskets will go, ruining my engine, breaking down on the highway with my infant on board. The smoke that would appear from a blown head gasket would impair other drivers visibility possibly causing an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes the VW dealership. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?- VW dealership Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?- Low coolant level light.

NHTSA #11636470

Head gasket leak. Went from zero issues with coolant whatsoever to the car smelling like it was burning after being turned on and being deemed unsafe to drive requiring a tow to the dealership for repair. Once there, head gasket replacement deemed necessary. Seems to have been a very an abrupt change. Luckily in this instance the car was parked and did not actually catch fire but I am concerned for my safety if this would have happened while the vehicle was in motion.

I purchased a 2022 Volkswagen Taos from TOM‘s VW, Union, New Jersey on Sep 23, 2023. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had approximately 19000 miles. Unfortunately, I experienced the engine light illuminating after starting the car at the end of October 2024. I brought this issue to Tom's VW's attention in Nov, 2024 - 1) I made an appointment with Tom's VW, and the first time I went to the dealership was on Nov 2, 2024. Since then, we have come to Tom's VW dealership to fix the same issue at least 6 times, the latest one was on May 15, 2025. 2) The car has been kept in the dealership's shop since it was drop off at the dealership on May 15, 2025. It's still kept in the dealership's shop now. 3) Several times we were told the problem was resolved and we could pick up the car, but the problem would usually reappear the next day. We immediately called Tom's VW to inform them and ask if it was safe to drive the car before it was delivered to Tom's VW again, since the problem involved the engine. However, we were told there was no safety issue. This concerns the engine, and the problem remains unresolved after a year, with no explanation for the cause of the engine light illuminating. We've been repeatedly told there's no safety issue and we can continue driving. Given this situation, I strongly suspect a serious engine-related quality problem with the car, and that the dealer's advice—that we can continue driving—poses a safety hazard.

NHTSA #11707893

We received a warning light stating to check coolant system. The dealership stated it was a leak at the head gasket. Our mechanic told us to not drive the car due to the risk of this condition.

NHTSA #11627703

Always running low on coolant Must have head gasket issues, dealer been saying no issues but been having to top off coolant

NHTSA #11612952

I purchase a 2022 VW Taos in February of 2022. Right after I purchase I got a coolant warning light. Took it to dealer and they added coolant. This stated happening a couple of time with the same fix by dealer. In March of 2023 they tested the cooling system and found nothing wrong and said the reason the car was loosing coolant was because the cap was not installed correctly and the coolant evaporated. The car still continues to loose coolant. Took the car back a few more times again the same fix, add coolant. Last week the check engine light came on and took the car to dealer. Now they tell me the car needs a new head cover gasket and since I have 58,000 miles it is no longer under warranty. I have taken the car to the dealership numerous times for the coolant being low and nothing was ever done to fix it. Now I am stuck paying $5200 for repairs that should have been done when the car was under warranty but an incompetent dealership never figured out what was wrong with it.

NHTSA #11604031

This complaint is related to a coolant leak. The issue started around the 13,000 mile mark when warning lamps came on at the instrument cluster. The warning was for low coolant. The vehicle was brought into the dealership and they replaced the cap to the reservoir and could not find additional issues. Off and on the coolant warning was triggered and was advised by the dealer to top off the coolant as this is just something that happens with these models due to the air pressure. At 56,000 miles, the coolant ran low again and under a pressure test, it was noticed that it was a leak at the cylinder head and the engine would need to be fixed upwards of 4,000 dollars. This is an issue not only financially but for the safety of those within the vehicle. This is due to the vehicles capability of overheating and no longer working as such low miles, causing those owning and driving it to be left stranded on the roadways.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, his daughter attempted to start the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

Failing head gasket that needs to be replaced. Appears to be a common issue. Parts are backordered so have been waiting on the repair for over a month now. Issue identified in the shop on 1/25/24, but was leaking coolant before that.

NHTSA #11574287

Service Brakes23 quejas

Since we bought the vehicle new in 2022, it has had an ongoing brake noise at low speeds. It sounds like a screeching or grinding, and I only hear it when I press the brake pedal. It is most noticeable right after startup when driving slowly. The main issue I am reporting is uneven rear brake pad wear, which may indicate the rear brake system is not applying evenly or not functioning correctly. The component involved is the rear brake system (rear brake pads and related parts). The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. A Volkswagen dealership confirmed an uneven wear condition. On 12/31/2025, the dealership performed an inspection and recorded that the left rear brake pad measured 3 mm while the right rear measured 8 mm. They recommended replacing the rear brake pads but did not diagnose or repair the cause of why one rear side is wearing much faster than the other. In prior visits, the dealership stated the noise was related to the type/quality of brake pads used. When I contacted the dealership again about the ongoing noise and the uneven wear, they stated they did not have a solution to correct the underlying problem and referred me to Volkswagen Customer Care, indicating they cannot get the brakes functioning beyond replacing pads. Volkswagen Customer Care then advised me I would need to work through the dealership. I believe this creates a safety risk because uneven rear brake wear may mean the brakes are not working the same on both sides, which could affect stopping distance or braking stability, and could lead to brake problems if one side wears out much sooner than the other. There have been no warning lights or messages. The symptoms began soon after purchase in 2022 and have continued over time.

NHTSA #11711515

My car is only 14,200 miles and the rear brakes are gone, I need to find help because is a safety concern and VW doesn’t want it to replace because the extended warranty is already expired, but nobody, either the VW or the dealership where I bought my car informed me regarding this issue and the extended warranty. The issue is not only for me there are a lot of customers having the same issue and VW and the dealership want me to pay for their original cheap brakes, the dealer wants to sell me new brakes for $400.00. Customer Service did not want to help. This morning I almost crash when I tried to stop at the light.

NHTSA #11700155

I took the vehicle in for its 80,000 service, which included a multiple point inspection on Oct. 24th, 2025. The dealer that serviced my vehicle for that specific service was the north park volkswagen in San Antonio. On October 30, 2025 at approximately 2:15 PM, I was driving down the highway when I felt something in the brakes crack. I had to use my whole body weight and a lot of force to stop the vehicle, which could have ended in a fatal accident. I took the vehicle to the nearest Firestone with the parking brake close to my hand, where a certified technician inspected it and found that a brake line had been improperly reattached using glue and duct tape, posing a major safety hazard. There was visible glue residue and tape wrapped around the brake line. Because Firestone could not obtain the necessary part and did not feel confident repairing a European vehicle, I then took my car to Ancira Volkswagen in San Antonio. Their technicians confirmed that the brake line repair using glue and tape would not have lasted long had it been at the 70,000 service over 6 months go further proving that this unsafe and makeshift repair was done recently. When I reported this issue to North Park Volkswagen, the service manager, Albert Zapata, was rude, dismissive, and denied all responsibility, implying that I could have caused the damage myself. This situation reflects negligence and a failure to perform a proper inspection or maintain safety standards. The workmanship and lack of accountability from North Park Volkswagen directly put my life at risk.

My 2022 Volkswagen Taos is less than 4 years old, has 23,500 miles and I have had to replace the rear brake pads twice. After 14 months in service, the rear brake pads were prematurely worn and replaced under warranty extension at 8,900 miles. This is a known issue--see this bulletin from VW: [XXX] . But the root cause issue has not been solved. At 23,500 miles, the rear brake pads were at 2mm and I had to replace them again, only two years later. So every one (1) to two (2) years, the rear brake pads on a VW Taos have to be replaced. Make it make sense. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11691208

Rear brake pads and rotors failed prematurely at 17,000 miles and again at 34,981 miles. Both times the brakes wore down to metal-on-metal with no dashboard warning light. The front brakes remain nearly new, suggesting an issue with brake balance or failure of the front braking system. First repair was performed under warranty, but second failure occurred outside VW's 24k rear brake warranty limit. Check engine light also returned within 24 hours of software update. This poses a major safety risk due to sudden brake failure and lack of warning.

NHTSA #11668295

I own a 2022 Volkswagen Taos with about 45,000 miles. I have had to replace the rear brake pads and rotors THREE TIMES already within this mileage, which is extremely unusual. During the third replacement, a local independent shop discovered that the rear brake caliper was leaking brake fluid, so the caliper also had to be replaced along with the pads and rotors once again. The service shop disposed of the old parts but I have service records. A leaking rear brake caliper can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of brake failure, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. This issue was confirmed by the independent shop during the third replacement. The first two replacements were done at an authorized dealer, but the caliper defect was not detected then. There were no warning lights or messages. The only sign was the unusually frequent need to replace the rear brakes three times in a short period, which may have been caused by an early defect in the caliper. I strongly request that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall is needed due to the repeated rear brake failure in this vehicle.

NHTSA #11668536

Purchased the vehicle on 8/1/2022. Brought the Taos in for routine oil change and at that point the rear brakes were noted to be under 4mm. At that point, there were 7,223 miles on the vehicle. Volkswagen was aware of the problem already and had issued a recall regarding the rear brakes, so it was covered under the recall. I thought the problem was resolved. On 6/4/2025, my car had to be brought in for a separate check engine light issue. At that time, the rear brakes were noted to be at 1mm. The vehicle had 23,061 miles on it, but I was past the two years for the recall, so I had to pay out of pocket for new rear brakes & rotors. Had my car’s check engine light not gone on, I would not have known my brakes were almost gone. Again.

NHTSA #11672000

Excessive break pad wear. Vehicle is 3 years old with only 18847 miles. Rear break pads have now been replaced twice (@11000 and @18847 miles). VW did have an extended warranty but that did not apply owing to the low mileage and lack of need to visit dealership for repair. Excessive break wear is a quality and safety concern. Problems with Taos break wear according to dealer is a known issue. They also stated that VW just released (May 2025) new brake pads to finally correct the issue. VW should recall the defective Taos 2022 brake pads.

NHTSA #11664386

I have just replaced the rear brakes on my 60k mile Taos for the second time. I am far from the only person I have seen multiple online reports of brakes being worn down by the 20k mile mark. Not only is this issue unsafe, it is expensive for the car owner. VW extended the warranty to 24k miles. But only on the first set of brakes

NHTSA #11655053

This is my second report as I have 2 VW Taos 2022 model vehicles. This vehicle also needed rear brake pads replaced after only 11233 miles. This is a low mileage vehicle and was outside of the extended warranty VW had offered and hence did not cover the repair. These faulty brake pads also damaged the rotors and they needed replacement too. This is a safety and a quality issue. VW needs to recall these faulty brake pads and cover previous repair costs. I did call VW customer care on 6/2/2025, they documented my concern but said they would not cover any repair costs beyond their original extended warranty but did document my situation with early brake pad wear on 2 VW Taos 2022 model vehicles.

NHTSA #11664471

Rear brake pads worn out at 30,000 miles. Never had a car ever need rear brake pads replaced before even after 150,000 miles. I understand some owners have had the rear brakes pad on this vehicle totally worn out at 10,000 miles. VW extended the warranty from 12k to 24k miles, so they must be aware they have an issue of premature wear. 24k miles falls between the regularly scheduled service intervals so when I took my vehicle for regularly scheduled service at 30,000 miles I was told they were worn out and now have a large expense. Pretty convenient for VW it seems. A lot of folks who do not take their car back to a dealership for oil changes every 10,000 miles are easily going to have rear brake failure as most places that change oil don't look at the brakes at all, and who anticipate rear brake wearing out in the first place.

NHTSA #11623013

Good afternoon, I own a 2022 VW Taos since April of 2022, I took my car for service to the dealership for 10k and 20k. When my vehicle had approximately 14,000 miles I do not know if the technicians actually checked my rear breaks. One more thing I got a letter from VW company saying that the VW Taos had issues with premature worn out rear brakes, the warranty was extended for a period of time of 2 years or 24,000 miles. Recently close to 2 weeks ago my Taos started making really bad noises coming from my rear breaks, made and appointment for today 10:00 am 8/6/2024 at Emich VW in Denver Co. When 30k service was performed and rear breaks were checked the VW gave me the surprise that I needed new rear breaks replacement of pads and rotors, I informed them about the service bulletin of the issues with the rear breaks but they stated that because the deadline was on April/2024 it was not covered under warranty. This is very frustrating because VW should extend the warranty on something that they know is defective from the factory and they already knew the issues that they had with the rear breaks, now dealership gave a quote of over 900 dlls to get it fix, my safety was at risk including my family's because VW knew about this but they gave a deadline of 2 years knowing that the breaks will fail around 24,000 miles or after the 2 years, something is wrong with the break system and I know because I used to be a mechanic. It has been just over 4 months since the deadline on April and I would like to make VW responsible for this issues and fix my car for free under warranty.

NHTSA #11606889

First, I purchased my 2022 VW Taos (VIN [XXX] ) brand new from Rudolph VW in El Paso, Texas on [XXX]. For the most part, the vehicle has maintained its integrity until it was brought to my attention that the rear brakes needed replacement at 7, 230 miles. The brake replacement occurred April of 2023 and replaced by a warranty extension that was offered by VW and at no cost to me. As you can see, not too many miles are on the vehicle from date of purchase to the time the brakes were replaced in April of 2023. Based on my conversation with the dealership, VW is very aware of this problem based on the mere fact that the quality of the brake pad is not up to par. On June of 2024, I took my car in for a wheel alignment and was told once again the rear brakes were in need of replacement at a cost to me of $600. I was really confused and concerned how this can be since I don’t have a lot of miles on the vehicle YoY. After discussing this issue with the Certified VW Mechanic at the dealership, other Taos owners have experienced the same problem with the rear brake's wearing out too soon! I also got a second opinion from a reputable mechanic in my area, and was told the rear brakes shouldn’t be wearing out that quickly. While there, after additional inspection of the rear brakes, the mechanic made me aware the left rear caliper is damaged and requires replacement. At this point, I am seeking help to begin an investigation which I hope will create a recall. I thank you for your attention to this matter. If you require documentation, please let me know. I took our 2022 VW Taos in for 15,000 mile service. The service advisor said the rear brakes were at 3mm and need to be replaced along with rotors. The brakes shouldn't be this low for the mileage on the car. Apparently, there was a time frame to repair the brakes in 2022 when we made the purchase and VW didn't inform us of the brake issue at the time. VW service says it'll cost over $900 to replace pads and rotors.

I built this car brand new at the end of 2021, received in February 2022. At 20,000 miles, my car was already noted to have rear brakes that were substandard and significantly more worn than is normal for wear and tear on a brand new vehicle. At this time, I was not informed of the problem, and it was led to continue until I went in for standard 30k maintenance. When I went in for the 30k maintenance, i was told my rear brakes would already need to be replaced. There is no brand new car that should need brakes replaced at 30k. Volkswagen has extended their warranty on the brakes to 24k, but since my car was out of that mileage range, it is not covered by the warranty. The brake warranty should be extended to 40k miles - as even with hard use, you still shouldn't need your brakes replaced until at least 50k.

NHTSA #11563003

Rear brakes had premature brake pad wear and needed to be replaced at 11k miles and 14 months of vehicle ownership (Dec 2023) - warranty extension was granted due to low miles and length of owners. Once again rear brakes have premature pad wear and need to be replaced at 19k miles and 2 years of ownership. This has cost has been denied by both the dealership and VW. Premature rear brake pad wear (replacing pads every 7-9k miles) is a defect, not an anomoly.

There is a serious acceleration problem. When trying to enter into traffic either turning left or right or going straight from stopped position, there is serious lag/hesitation to the vehicle accelerating. After pressing the throttle for a couple of seconds with very little movement, it will then jerk and squeal the tires. There have been many times when we have come close to being hit by this problem while pulling into traffic. I have had this vehicle back to the dealer twice. The first time they said there was no issue. The second time, I talked to the service manager (a personal friend) and he admitted there was an issue with acceleration. However, Volkswagen had no solution. No one else has looked at this vehicle. No warning lamps or lights. I have another appointment with my dealer for the latest recall and will address this with them again. Please, please, please discuss this with Volkswagen and get them to fix this issue. Other than the lag/hesitation in acceleration, I very much like this vehicle.

Vehicle: 2022 Volkswagen Taos Mileage at Incident: 61,170 On April 21, 2026, while driving shortly after leaving my home, the EPC (Electronic Power Control) warning light suddenly illuminated and the engine warning light began flashing rapidly. The vehicle immediately began jerking, hesitating, and losing power. It started slowing down unexpectedly while in motion. This created a serious safety hazard. I was forced to reduce speed and maneuver to the side of the road to avoid being rear-ended. The sudden loss of power in traffic placed me and other drivers at risk of a collision. After turning the vehicle off and restarting it, both warning lights disappeared. Notably, on April 3, 2026 (60,428 miles), I had an oil change performed. On April 6, the engine light came on and remained illuminated until April 18, then turned off without repair. Three days later, the EPC failure occurred. The dealership was unable to reproduce the issue but charged $190 for diagnostics and stated the problem was a cracked N80 valve line (small leak), quoting approximately $700 for repair. I am aware of reports involving similar issues affecting thousands of vehicles of this model year. Sudden loss of engine power while driving is a clear safety concern, especially when warning lights appear and disappear intermittently. The vehicle remains available for inspection.

I am reporting a safety-related failure involving a 2022 Volkswagen Taos (AWD) with approximately 48,000 miles. While operating the vehicle under normal driving conditions, the vehicle entered “transmission emergency mode” without warning. At that point, the vehicle experienced a significant loss of functionality, downshifting to D1 and including the complete loss of reverse gear. This created a hazardous situation, as I was unable to maneuver the vehicle safely on the highway and in confined or urban environments. The issue was intermittent at first but became persistent, resulting in the vehicle being effectively unsafe to operate. The inability to engage reverse presents a clear safety risk, particularly in situations requiring immediate maneuverability (e.g., parking, avoiding obstacles, or exiting traffic situations). The vehicle was taken to an authorized Volkswagen dealership, where it was diagnosed with an internal transmission failure. The diagnostic fault code provided was P176F00 (K2 clutch out of tolerance due to internal wear). The dealer indicated that the appropriate repair is a full transmission replacement, with an estimated cost of approximately $8,400. Despite the relatively low mileage and the severity of the failure, Volkswagen has declined to provide assistance, citing that the vehicle is just outside of the warranty period. The vehicle has been out of service now for 10 days with no resolution provided. This failure appears to be premature for a major drivetrain component and raises concerns about potential defects affecting the safety and reliability of this vehicle model. The sudden loss of reverse and entry into emergency mode without warning creates a potentially dangerous condition for drivers and others on the road. I am submitting this complaint to document the issue and to request investigation into whether this represents a broader safety-related defect in the vehicle.

NHTSA #11731009

I purchased the vehicle brand new (VW Taos 2022) and have maintained it properly. At approximately 60,000 miles—just outside the warranty period—the vehicle developed a serious transmission issue. While driving, I received a warning stating “Transmission in emergency mode” followed by a check engine light. The vehicle then entered limp mode, limiting shifting to manual gears (M2–M4) and eventually becoming stuck in M2. An authorized Volkswagen dealership diagnosed the issue as a mechatronic failure and quoted approximately $2,000 for repair. I contacted Volkswagen Customer Care to request goodwill assistance, as this represents a premature failure of a major drivetrain component. Given the relatively low mileage, the known issues associated with early model-year Taos vehicles, and the safety implications of the vehicle entering limp mode during operation, I believe this repair should not fall entirely on the consumer.

2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5T (DNKA engine, <60,000 miles, <5 years old) developed internal coolant leak from cylinder head gasket. On 11/03/2025 Smith Volkswagen, Wilmington, DE (RO 692953/1) performed coolant system pressure test and confirmed leak coming from cylinder head gasket area at rear of engine below turbo (exactly as shown in Figures 1 & 2 of VW TSB 15-23-01). Dealer noted possible related engine damage that may require complete engine replacement in addition to head gasket. Vehicle available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: loss of coolant can cause sudden engine overheating, power loss, or seizure while driving, creating risk of crash, stranding, or fire. Symptoms began November 2025 with “Check Coolant” warning; reservoir was below MIN. Added coolant once; warning has not returned, but pressure test proved ongoing internal leak. No visible external drips. This exact failure is a known manufacturing defect per Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletin 15-23-01 (Transaction 2071245/1, issued 08/17/2023), which states: “Original engine production head gasket design can lead to coolant leaks” and was redesigned as of engine DNKA 234 458 (July 27, 2023). Despite VW’s own bulletin documenting the defective gasket in all 2022–2023 Taos/Jetta 1.5T engines built before the fix, VW classifies the TSB as “information only” with no warranty coverage. VW Goodwill offered only 50% assistance on the $4,927 head gasket replacement and nothing toward a potential full engine replacement, leaving owner responsible for thousands of dollars in repairs on a documented factory defect in a low-mileage, young vehicle.

NHTSA #11703443

This vehicle has ongoing drivability issues that have not been resolved despite multiple repair attempts involving engine-related components and repairs. The issue began in November 2024 while the vehicle was under warranty with coolant and engine warnings. At that time, I reported coolant loss, warning messages, hesitation during acceleration, and abnormal vehicle vibration. I was initially told no issue existed. Shortly after warranty expiration, the vehicle required a major head gasket repair in 2025 after continuing to exhibit the same coolant-related issues. In 2026, the vehicle required an additional engine-related repair involving a camshaft seal in the same area of the engine that had previously been dismantled and rebuilt. Despite these repairs, the same drivability symptoms remain. The vehicle intermittently hesitates during acceleration, particularly from a stop or during merging conditions, where engine RPM increases significantly before the vehicle responds. The vehicle also exhibits significant steering wheel and seat vibration at highway speeds and during extended driving. These conditions create a potential safety concern because the vehicle does not consistently respond as expected during acceleration and becomes unstable and uncomfortable to operate at highway speeds. The hesitation creates concern when entering traffic, crossing intersections, or attempting to accelerate in situations requiring predictable vehicle response. The issue has been repeatedly presented to the dealership and repair attempts have been performed, including major engine work, but the condition remains unresolved. The repairs were treated as separate isolated issues rather than a continuation of the original condition first reported under warranty. The vehicle has been out of service for approximately 43 days across these repairs. No loaner vehicle was provided during those periods. The vehicle remains in its current condition with unresolved issues.

I recently started experiencing a delay in acceleration after my car has stopped at a light or stop sign. The car doesn’t immediately accelerate when the gas pedal is used but then it catches and takes off lunging forward very quickly. The has caused many close calls especially with left hand turns. I have almost been hit multiple times due to the car not going and oncoming traffic continuing. I have also almost rear ended other drivers due to the surge of acceleration when the car finally takes off. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and brought this to their attention. They told me it was a known issue, particularly with the Volkswagen Taos. They said they had several vehicles come in for inspection citing the same problem. So I assumed they would have a solution since it is a known issue, but I was told there was nothing they could do to fix it. They told me this was why my check engine light was on when I brought my vehicle in, they tested for errors, found none, turned the light off, and sent me on my way with my vehicle still experiencing this “turbo lag”. I goggled the issue and there is a lot of information online and reports of the same experience but no solutions. Does someone need to die before car manufacturers are held accountable to fixing this? It is documented with the dealership that I had concerns about this and I will be taking legal action should an accident occur because of this issue because this isn’t right. They literally told me, “I would hate to charge you money for us to do work on your car knowing we cannot fix it.” And of course the issue didn’t show up until my car hit a certain number of miles. I bought the car brand new in 2021 and have maintained the required servicing.

From the start, car regularly needed coolant topped off. Dealer said there was no issue. At 68,000 miles other mechanic noticed a major oil leak. Took it to dealer and needed cylinder head gasket replaced. Apparently there are many many people with a similar issue. I however did not discover it until I was out of warranty. They should not be getting away with this. This is a near $4,000 repair I have to come with out of pocket (plus interest) which is due to manufacturing defect and not simple wear and tear.

Electrical System,Engine,Fuel/Propulsion System4 quejas

The systems failing are electrical, engine, and fuel/propulsion systems. VW TAOS 2022 purchased Sept. 2023. Two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, I'm driving down the street and the vehicle began to lose power and start slowing down. It eventually cut off. About a week later, I experienced the same issue. I called the dealer and they had me to bring my car in. I was told that they couldn't find the problem, but that the car was misfiring. They "repaired" and returned it to me. As I drove on local streets and the interstate, I have problems with acceleration. The car does not pick up speed like it should and lags behind and then suddenly jerks forward (even after battery rest times during a stop). It rides a bit rough. Occasionally, my dashboard blacks out while I'm driving. My auto-start doesn't always work, even after the fob batteries have been changed. My gas seems to disappear and I find myself gassing up more often than I should be. I would contact the dealership, they'd coordinate service around my scheduled service dates and claim that they could never find or duplicate the problems that I'm having. The problems continue. My engine light came on while I was driving and stayed on. I was told to bring in my car. The dealership kept it from July-Sept 2025, replacing parts and then returned it to me. Two days later the engine light came back on and I had to return to the dealer again for service. After leaving a parking lot (Jun 2026), two blocks down the street the TAOS began to lose power, the engine light is flashing and the EPC code (engine control malfunction) light lit up. I called VW and they dispatched a tow. My TAOS was towed to Checkered Flag VW. My safety (and others) is at risk because the power loss just happens without warning. If a driver is not paying attention, they could run into the back of me or hit me on the side during a lane change due to the slow movement.

NHTSA #11743911

Stepping in the gas, the car takes about 4-5 seconds before it speeds up after each stop. When pulling out of a drive, the car sputtered and the check engine light was flashing and the Start/stop error came on. The delayed driving happens every time I drive the car. Only have about 44k miles on it. I have had multiple people almost rear end me. I have had the car for about 3 weeks now.

Fuel System: The car hesitates when you push the gas, and then will suddenly go with a jolt. That is unsafe as you are turning on to road and when you push the gas-you do not move for a few seconds which could cause an accident. There are no warning lights regarding this, however, lots of the same exact complaints for this model on the internet. Engine: The coolant goes low, and the dealership says it needs a new head gasket replaced, however, was told to continue to drive the car until the part comes in which is on back order for months. Electrical: Lights come on telling me that my tire is low, when tire is not low. My oil light came on saying to reduce the oil level. Dealership just turned the light off and called it good. I worry that something is wrong, but the car does not give accurate safe information. The carplay system has to be restarted all the time due to connecting issues, and map not working. Additionally, the car had to have rear breaks replaced at only 27,000k miles.

Took my 2022 VW Taos in for its 20,000 mile service. Upon picking up the vehicle I was told everything looks great and I'm going to want to watch my rear brakes, the pads are worn 50%. I inquired as to wear on the front, near new at 11. I had also asked if they could check on the sluggish or jack rabbit take offs. They said that had been corrected thru a computer update at a previous visit. I said it was minimally improved? and had hoped VW had figured out the cause. I dwellled on the rear brake issue overnight, discussed the situation with my BIL, and called my service advisor in the am to say we believe the sluggish/rapid acceleration isn't brake related, but rather the brakes aren't completely releasing during stop to acceleration. He said he suspected that also and discussed it with his service manager who agreed. He said they submitted an inquiry and are asking VW to look in to this and as my rearbrakes are out if warranty by my "in service date", to see if VW will waive the pad replacement for low odometer. I've complained about and filed a NTHSA report for the acceleration problem a couple years ago. Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine? -Fuel Injection? -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have caused an accident or even caused irreplaceable engine damage. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center because it is random and once you shut the car off and the auto start/stop, it resolves the issue for a short time. I have called the dealer and I have called VW company to report the issue, but they both just refer me back to the other. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. No symptoms or warning lamps. The check engine light only comes on after the car stutters and struggles to accelerate for a few seconds, then it will flash on and off depending of if I am pressing the gas pedal.

I shut the engine off and turned it on was fine. VW HQ said no new car. They will keep trying to fix it. Dealer won’t change it. Dealer wants me to bring it in again….They will try something else. I explained to dealer and VWHQ this is very dangerous. Previous incident 11/2023, previous incident shortly after leasing the car. Each time told it was fixed and not.

I am reporting a repeated safety-related defect involving exhaust intrusion into the cabin of my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle experienced loss of power, coolant loss, and engine warning indicators, and was serviced twice by Volkswagen Southtowne in Sandy, Utah. First Incident – Vehicle Returned as “Safe to Drive” During the first repair visit, the dealer diagnosed issues involving the manifold/exhaust area, head gasket, coolant system, and catalytic converter. After keeping the vehicle for an extended period, the dealership informed me the vehicle was “safe to drive,” although the repair was not fully completed. I relied on this representation. After the vehicle was returned to me, I began experiencing significant physical symptoms only while driving the vehicle, including nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. These symptoms occurred repeatedly during operation and would subside after leaving the vehicle. At the time, I did not understand that these symptoms were caused by exhaust entering the cabin. Second Incident – Defect Confirmed and Additional Repairs Performed Weeks later, the symptoms persisted and I returned the vehicle to the same dealership. At this second visit, the dealer reported coolant leakage and additional gasket failures. They removed the cylinder head, replaced gaskets, and performed additional exhaust-related repairs. I was provided a loaner vehicle during this extended repair. After this second repair, the symptoms while driving stopped. Safety Concern Based on the timing of symptoms, the repair records, and the resolution following the second repair, I believe that exhaust gases were entering the cabin of the vehicle during normal operation for an extended period. This created a significant safety hazard. I was repeatedly assured the vehicle was “safe to drive” when it was not. I unknowingly operated the vehicle while being exposed to exhaust fumes for several months. The condition caused physical illness, impaired my ability.

This statement is to formally document my ongoing and serious concerns regarding my 2022 Volkswagen Taos, which has been in and out of the Pasadena Volkswagen, California, service department for the past three weeks due to a persistent fuel smell and related fuel system issues. Despite the recent maintenance and attempted repairs, the vehicle continues to exhibit these dangerous problems. Most alarmingly, during a recent incident, the vehicle almost completely shut off while I was driving on the freeway. This is a critical safety hazard, and the safety of my family is paramount. I cannot accept driving a vehicle that poses such a risk of breakdown in traffic. Adding to my unease with the fuel issues is the fact that this specific vehicle has also previously required repair for seized rear brake calipers. Given the numerous reported complaints about the 2022 VW Taos model and the repeated, severe issues my own vehicle has experienced—from brake failure to dangerous fuel system problems—I am profoundly concerned about its reliability and long-term safety. The continuing issues make it difficult, if not impossible, to drive this vehicle without significant anxiety. I request an urgent and definitive resolution to these safety-critical fuel problems.

In April 2024, the VW Taos leaked coolant due to a faulty gasket. Upon being fixed, an EPC light came on and leaked oil. This caused us to have it towed to the dealership for repairs to the oil cap lining. After the car was returned, the light was cleared and no longer leaked oil. In May 2024, the EPC light reappeared and cause a significant reduction when accelerating at 50 mph. When the light came on the vehicle had errors stating that the max rpms are exceeded and the car reduced power. We took the car to VW State College who was unable to find an issue with the car and cleared the light. We were able to drive the vehicle at slow speeds back to Moon Township for diagnostic and testing. The vehicle has remained with VW since late may and as of 6/11/2024, Volkswagen is unable to determine the cause of the EPC light. The second time the EPC light came on, the car stalled out at an intersection causing significant injury risk to the occupants. VW Moon Township has performed the investigations and VW State College was unable to diagnose the EPC light cause. The EPC light did not appear prior to the initial coolant leak.

Yes, the components may be available for inspection upon request through the dealership. - The second head gasket failure resulted in coolant loss, which can lead to engine overheating and potential failure while driving. The underbody panel detached while I was on the freeway, posing a serious safety hazard to me and other drivers. The brake system issues, including vibration and scraping noises, raise concern about brake reliability and stopping ability. - Yes, all issues were confirmed and addressed by authorized Volkswagen dealerships: DeMontrond Volkswagen (Conroe, TX) and Momentum Volkswagen (Houston, TX). - The vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times by Volkswagen-certified service technicians. No inspections by police or insurance have taken place. - No warning lamps appeared before the head gasket failures. I am filing a safety complaint regarding a 2022 vehicle with approximately 47,000 miles that experienced a sudden and dangerous mechanical failure while in operation. While driving at approximately 37 mph, a dashboard warning message appeared indicating that the vehicle required attention but could continue to be driven for a short period. Shortly after the warning, the vehicle suddenly lost the ability to maintain proper gear engagement. At one point, no gear was engaged at all, creating a hazardous driving situation. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. After restarting it, I was able to regain limited operation; however, the vehicle would not shift beyond second gear, significantly limiting its drivability and creating an unsafe condition in traffic. This vehicle has been consistently maintained at an authorized dealership according to all recommended service intervals, with no missed or delayed maintenance. The dealership later informed me that the failure was related to the mechatronic system and SOS system. I was also told that the repair would not be covered under warranty. This incident raises serious safety concerns due to the sudden loss of power and gear function while the vehicle was in motion. I am requesting that this issue be reviewed for potential defects that could affect vehicle safety and reliability. I am submitting this complaint so that the issue can be investigated and to help prevent similar incidents from affecting other drivers.

Component or system that failed or malfunctioned Rear brake rotors and rear brake pads. Both rear rotors have been diagnosed as requiring replacement along with rear brake pads. The front rotors and pads are reported to be in normal condition. The vehicle and all replaced components are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk Degraded rear braking performance increases stopping distance and could lead to brake vibration, uneven braking, or reduced control during emergency braking, posing a potential safety risk to the driver and others. Confirmation or reproduction of the problem The issue has been confirmed by a dealership service department, which recommended replacement of the rear rotors and rear brake pads. The vehicle has approximately 16,000 miles and is just over 4 years old. During the service visit, dealership staff stated that this type of rear brake wear occurs frequently with these vehicles. The dealership also indicated that Volkswagen previously replaced rear rotors and pads under warranty for similar issues at approximately 24,000 miles or 2 years, but that this coverage is no longer available. Because this vehicle was driven significantly less than average, it did not reach those mileage thresholds within that earlier timeframe. Inspections performed The vehicle has been inspected by a dealership service center. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. Additional details / driving conditions The vehicle has been driven very infrequently, with low-mileage trips on flat roads in Charleston, South Carolina. There has been no aggressive driving, towing, mountainous driving, or heavy stop-and-go use. The front brakes remain in normal condition. Given the low mileage, light usage, and prior warranty replacements for similar conditions, rear rotor and pad replacement at this mileage appears premature and abnormal.

The vehicle has had repeated issues related to the fuel system, including strong fuel odor inside the cabin, a gurgling sound coming from the fuel tank area, and recurring check engine lights shortly after a previous recall repair was completed. The most recent diagnostic from the dealer indicated a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor (G400), but I was initially told the vehicle needed a fuel pressure release valve. There has been inconsistency in the diagnostics and explanations provided to me. The fuel smell in the cabin and apparent pressure issues in the tank created a safety concern for me and my passengers, especially while driving with windows closed or using cabin heat. I am concerned about a potential fuel leak or improper tank venting. The problem has occurred multiple times, including at least five check engine lights after the recall repair. The dealer has inspected the vehicle several times, but the issue has not been fully resolved, and additional related parts (such as the tank shutoff valve) were recommended for replacement. Warning lights included repeated check engine indicators, and the fuel odor occurred each time the issue recurred. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

while driving a 2022 VW Taos started experiencing a strong wobble in the front driver side tire. It started on a 2.5 hour drive back from dropping my son off at college. While accelerating from 0-40 MPH the wobble would be very strong. After reaching 45 MPH it leveled off. It would wobble more turning or moving to the left than the right side. It was frightening to drive my hour long commute and worry if my tire was going to fall of or, worse yet, would I crash. I could not get in to the VW dealership for a few days prior to this starting. I did not have any lights or warning signs prior to this. When I first spoke about the problem to a few places they were suggested the lug nuts were loose, or perhaps a tire bearing went bad. I took it to my VW dealer and they said the issue was the steering rack and I was originally quoted $7,500 to fix it. Steve at my dealership was great and moved mountains to get the price lowered and my car repaired. However I find it hard to believe that 4 year old car with 80,000 miles on it should have this kind of major repair. I had to rent a car for a few days and then VW was able to provide me with loaner. I have had issues with my 2022 VW since I purchased it during Covid and just wonder if that is that is part of the issue. Cheaper parts being used - perhaps not tested or as reliable. I just wanted to report this and see if any other 2022 VW TAOS's were experiencing the same issue and if a TSB should be issued or a recall. I had one thing fixed in the past and then a recall was issued but I was denied reimbursement since I did not use VW parts to fix the problem. I am trying to avoid that from happening again. I have owned VW's for over 20 years and I appreciate their dependability, gas mileage and longevity as I drive a lot. thank you.

The vehicle has ongoing acceleration delay and jerking under normal driving, along with repeated premature rear brake wear and a major coolant leak that required head gasket replacement. The most recent incident occurred on August 8, 2025, immediately after picking up the vehicle from a service visit for the acceleration concern. Two separate throttle delays with a sudden jerk forward occurred at approximately 5:47 PM and 5:50 PM in moderate city traffic at 79°F. These incidents put my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk, as delayed acceleration can prevent safe merging, crossing, or passing. Within the first 25,000 miles of ownership, the vehicle has also required one rear brake replacement and a second replacement was recommended due to premature wear, which could reduce braking performance and stopping distance. Additionally, a coolant leak ultimately required head gasket replacement. Suspension components, including a knuckle, have also been replaced under warranty. The acceleration problem has been reported to authorized Volkswagen dealers, but was documented as “could not reproduce” despite occurring minutes after pickup. Coolant leak and brake issues have been confirmed and repaired or recommended for repair by dealers. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the acceleration incidents.

The vehicle has intermittent hesitation/delayed acceleration from a stop and during low-speed stop-and-go driving. At times, engine RPM increases before the vehicle responds or accelerates normally. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, turning, merging, or accelerating from a stopped position because the vehicle does not always respond predictably to throttle input. The concern was reported to a Volkswagen dealer in writing during a prior repair process and was later formally documented on a repair order as hesitation on acceleration. The vehicle has prior Volkswagen repair history involving a coolant warning/low coolant concern, head gasket repair, and later camshaft seal/belt cover repair. After the most recent repair, the delayed acceleration/hesitation concern remained unresolved. The vehicle is currently under review with Volkswagen Customer Care, but the safety-related drivability concern has not yet been fully resolved. Supporting documents include the 2025 written report of jerking from a stop, the 2026 repair order documenting hesitation on acceleration, and post-repair emails showing the issue remained unresolved. After I notified the dealer in writing that the hesitation/delayed acceleration concern remained after the most recent repair, I did not receive a documented response or resolution, and the concern remains unresolved with Volkswagen Customer Care.

I reported this to the dealer but they said it's out of warrenty. Other owners with this vehicle reported the same flaking from the same area on online forums and on the news. I would like the manufacturer to fix this before rusting happens on the body of the car and more serious issues occur. It is my understanding there have been reports of issues with the rear brakes on the 2022 Volkswagen Taos. Some owners have complained about excessive brake noise, premature wear, and in some cases, problems with the electronic parking brake. These issues have led to concerns about the reliability and safety of the braking system in the Taos. It’s also my understanding Volkswagen has acknowledged some of these problems and has issued technical service bulletins (TSBs) to address complaints. I am experiencing rear brake issues on my 2022 Taos' rear brakes as stated above. I have not been issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) nor has Volkswagon Corporate USA issued any recalls. My car has 18,000 miles and is scheduled to go in for service this Wednesday. When I called my dealership’s service department, the service manager stated he was aware of premature rear brake wear on the 2022 Taos. I find it hard to believe Volkswagon Corporate doesn’t know about this problem however the service manager does. An internet inquiry will prove TSB’s have been issued. One source is ChatGBT among other sources. I fully expect this to be covered under warranty and if it not, I would like to know how I can contact someone directly at the NHTSA if possible.

Stayed lit for one minute and then they all went away. This is now happening every day for the past three days. Today the steering light turn on as well and had difficulty with steering the wheel for about 30 seconds. These incidents occurred after turning the car on after it had been parked for 5 hours. Then while driving at 30-40 mph.

This vehicle was purchased new 1/2022 and it has had several issues that occurred: - 2/23 driving down the highway trying to accelerate onto the highway I pressed the gas pedal and it wouldn’t accelerate for about 3-4 seconds then the check engine light came on as well as the car losing power - while driving the car the forward collision indicator has activated without at car being around and stops suddenly - if you put the car in reverse sometime the car will not go into drive so your basically waiting for the car to respond - I barely drive my car it has 19k miles I do not feel safe even driving this vehicle at this point. - when you take it to the dealership they say if it can’t be reproduced they can’t fix the issues no matter if I call and state there is a problem. I’ve been a VW owner since 2005 and this vehicle has given me more problems then any VW I’ve ever owned

Vehicle has been having accelerator issues. Car has not been registering acceleration. This has happened on 6 separate occasions. The first occurrence happened when I was at an intersection and I took my foot off the brake and put my foot on the gas pedal. No acceleration besides the torque received when not applying gas (1-3mph). This lasted for about 7-10 seconds and then I jolted forward due to gas pedal being pressed down and car registering the gas. The other occurrences have happened when I start my car in the morning. I will start my car and apply gas. The car does not register the gas, it moves slowly from the torque converter. This lasts about 7-8 seconds of this slow moving. My foot is applied to the gas pedal, but car doesn't register it. After about 8 seconds, my car will register my foot being on the gas pedal. It goes from about 1 mph to 12-17 mph in 2 seconds. When it does, the gas pedal is not pressed 1/2 day down, 3/4 way down or all the way down to the floor. The gas pedal is pressed very gently. I learned from the first time in the intersection, not to press the gas pedal down all the way due to the aggressive acceleration of the car at an unknown time. The date of the intersection occurrence I did not record due to me thinking it was a one off situation. After the second time I started documenting each time this happened. Temperatures have varied from when this happens, it does not happen when it is a certain temperature out. I have driven my car consistently and does not happen when leaving my car sit for long periods of time. I have had regular maintenance on my car. Date of events this has happened 01/08 01/16 01/17 01/29 01/31 This is very concerning to me as I am afraid my car will hit an object or a human without my control. This car was bought new from the dealership and is less than 3 years old. I have reported this problem to the local dealership and have an appt in February.

I purchased my vehicle new on 12/31/21. The vehicle currently has 19,200 miles. The coolant light went on so I took it to the VW dealership as it was due for an oil change and tire rotation soon. The dealer indicated that the head gasket is leaking internally. The parts are on back order and there is no eta. From what I have researched regarding other 2022 VW Taos owners experiences with head gasket issues, it could be 30-90 days before I get my vehicle back (which the dealership has indicated is true). There appears to be a host of other issues that people are having with their 2022 VW Taos including rear brakes wearing way too fast and other engine issues. I have no concerns with how the dealership is managing this issue, however, based on my research, I am surprised a recall has not yet been issued. I am concerned about the lifetime health of my vehicle and the issues I may to deal with after the warranty ends, if the engine is already requiring major repairs after only 2 years and less than 20,000 miles.

Rear Brake and Rotors- At about 14,500 miles the vehicle started making this screeching noise. Rear brake pads and rotors wearing out prematurely. There is no indication through the health reports sent by VW or Carfax (VW affiliated) that is nothing wrong (all healthy). I took to dealership. The customer service rep at Rudolph VW in El Paso, TX told me that "the front brakes were great and the rear brakes were at about 6/10 and to come back in a few months before the 20,000 miles warranty ran out. That VW was aware about the supplier but could not do anything at this point". This is a safety issue and its a Warranty covered issue as is under 20,000 miles. I never had a vehicle with this issue. I fear for my life. I am at about 16,500. I don't know I f am going to make it to 20,000. Another issue I have with this vehicle is that the engine light came on as I was driving. I called it in and they simply said oh yes that's usual. This is a new vehicle! I am about to take it in this week.

On two occasions our Taos, when put in drive rolled backwards on a slight grade when the brake was released. The dealership says they cannot replicate the problem and suggests waiting 1.5 to 3 seconds after shifting to drive before releasing the brake. I don't think this is standard procedure, at least in any car I've ever driven and I've never heard of such a procedure in any car. In addition, the airbag light on the dash is currently on. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a damaged wire under the passenger seat. I inspected the wire and found a light gauge wire extending from the floorboard to the bottom of the passender seat, which is damaged, for reasons unknown, however is glaringly unprotected and vulnerable.
