I am filing a complaint regarding NHTSA Recall 24V-700 (R24B2) for my 2019 Nissan LEAF S Plus, VIN: [XXX], Nissan Case No. XXX. I complied fully with Nissan's recall instructions, avoiding Level 3 fast charging for my entire ownership. On or about April 23, I filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs (Case #XXX) regarding the impact of the charging restriction on my vehicle's usability and requested a buyback. Nissan denied my claim approximately two months ago. I then surrendered my vehicle for the recall repair. The dealer returned it, stating the recall was remedied. Over the following three days, I drove only short local trips with minimal driving — no fast charging. The vehicle lurched violently on a public road, entered turtle mode, and displayed multiple dashboard warning lights. I drove it slowly to the dealership. My dealer confirmed full battery replacement is required and submitted a Goodwill Warranty claim on my behalf — acknowledging this failure was not due to owner misuse. Nissan North America (Case No. XXX) has since informed me in writing that battery replacement cannot be provided and is now offering repurchase. The battery failure occurred directly after Nissan's purported recall repair with minimal driving. Nissan claimed the defect was fixed — it was not. I am concerned the KBB value Nissan intends to use may be artificially suppressed by five open safety recalls, including 24V-700, and the vehicle's current non-operational status — caused entirely by Nissan's defective repair. I request NHTSA scrutinize Nissan's repurchase valuation methodology for affected owners. I request NHTSA investigate Nissan's failure to remedy this recall. My preferred remedy remains battery replacement. I should not bear the financial consequences of a repair Nissan certified as complete. There is a recall on the level 3 charger that has been outstanding for more than 2 years and they still do not have a remedy. We have to rent a car if we need to drive more than 200 miles.
NHTSA #11739684
Nissan issued a recall notice well over a year ago about batteries catching fire when using the DC fast charging port. They still have not offered a fix. I can't travel long distances with the car since slower level 2 charging is impractical (8 hrs to full recharge). If I sell the vehicle with this limitation, I will have do to so at a substantial loss, so I cannot replace the car. I want a fix, compensation. or a buy-back. I called the local dealership today and they can't even offer a timeline for a fix.

More than a year later, and Nissan still has no remedy available for recall 24V-700, posing a fire risk to consumers. In what universe would a software remedy take a major auto manufacturer more than a year to develop? NHTSA has the ability to regulate and safeguard the public. Instead they have become known as a toothless, ineffective exemplar of government brokenness. Why?

I have been waiting an entire year for Nissan to resolve the battery issue. I have purchased another house 240 miles away and I need to charge my leaf at least once to move it to my new home. If I fast charge the car it may catch fire and if it does this without the recall being resolved my insurance won't pay for the loss since Nissan has warned the car can not be fast charged. Waiting an entire year is not reasonable. Please force Nissan to resolve the recall by either a software update or battery replacement.

I recently purchased a 2019 Nissan Leaf that is currently affected by NHTSA Recall Number 24V-700. This recall was initially issued on September 19, 2024, "instructing customers not to use Level 3 quick charging until the remedy is completed". The initial expectation of a corrective remedy was November 2024, which was later changed "Due to an unexpected delay in the final remedy software development" to Spring 2025. Today is September 22, 2025, over a full year from the date that the recall was initiated, and well beyond "Spring 2025", with no remedy available and I'm unable to safely use Level 3 quick charging. I believe this falls into the category of failing or unable "to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner" and Nissan needs to be held accountable for this safety issue that is preventing me from fully utilizing my vehicle as expected.

State of charge wildly fluctuates at charge less than about 60%, making the car unusable except for very short trips between charges. Lack of fast charging (active recall) means that car cannot be used for its intended purpose

My 2019 Nissan Leaf SV is under recall R24B2 for battery overheating risk during DC fast charging. Nissan has instructed owners not to use Level 3 fast charging until a remedy is available, but no fix has been provided for almost one year with continued delay in repair promise dates. Yesterday, I was unable to use a fast charger as needed, which forced me to wait several hours at a slower Level 2 charging station. This delay made it impossible to drive my Leaf for a planned Labor Day weekend trip to Amelia Island. Instead, we had to use my daughter’s car, since the Leaf could not meet our travel needs without fast charging. This ongoing situation shows significant loss of use and hardship. Fast charging is an essential function of an electric vehicle, and without it the car cannot perform as originally marketed. The prolonged lack of remedy (nearly a year since the recall was issued) is unacceptable and has left my vehicle restricted and unreliable. I request NHTSA take action to ensure Nissan provides a timely remedy or interim solution for affected Leaf owners. Attached is letter also sent to Nissan.

The open recall 24V-700 still has no remedy from the manufacturer; they keep pushing it back. It's been over 9 months since it was originally issued, and longer since they told me to stop using level 3 charging. A lack of level 3 charging means I cannot feasibly use this vehicle for longer trips. You state "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-888-275-9171 or file an online complaint with NHTSA." I don't consider Nissan's behavior to be "timely" in this matter.

Nissan has stated since September 2024, that they’re working on a repair for my 2019 Nissan Leaf. The issue is that using a fast charge system could cause the battery to catch fire. Nissan states to not use these types of chargers. I just received my third or fourth recall notice from them stating that they are working on it and they keep pushing the date back. Estimated date now is third quarter of 2025. This issue severely limits how I can use my vehicle, which is used primarily to commute to work. My commute is 70 miles and I cannot make it back and forth on a full charge so I frequently need to fast charge the vehicle.

Reporting that, in September 2024, Nissan publicly suggested March 2025 would be the estimated timeline for recall service resolution. Now in May 2025, I'm still unable to use the Level 3 charging due to recall 24V-700. Until September 2024, we could safely use this feature for longer term trips, and we are still waiting for Nissan to resolve this recall so we can resume trips.

The other week, because I drove out of town and I had to fast charge, I received an error message from the Level 3 charger and could not charge my Nissan Leaf. Please contact Nissan to urge them to quickly find a remedy to this issue. So far, I cannot travel beyond my city with my car because I can't fast charge to return home. Received a notification from Nissan Corporation that my 2019 Leaf is the subject of a safety recall concerning risk of lithium ion battery fire during Level 3 charging. The notice explains that the vehicle's lithium-ion battery may experience "excessive lithium deposits within certain battery cells which could increase electrical resistance and result in a fluctuation in the state of the charge." The notice explicitly cites that the battery may contain excessive lithium deposits but the potential remedy (it has not been issued yet) relates only to a softwear update to prevent rapid heating of the battery. However, there is no remedy planned or addressed to the problem of "excessive lithium deposits" which increase electrical resistance and the impact of that damage to the battery life, performance, deterioration or efficiency. The NHTSA report actually cites specific batteries installed in the Leaf model years implicated in the resulting safety recall. It is essential that NHTSA evaluate the impact of these batteries, the effect of excessive lithium deposits on the car's general safety and performance and the necessity of requiring full replacement of batteries damaged by this defect. The issue of damaged batteries is inextricably related to the safety recall and fire risk. As the problem of damaged batteries is confirmed by Nissan Corporation's Recall Notice and cited in the Defect Information Report filed by Nissan with NHTSA (which reference the specific battery components involved), these defective batteries should be subject to replacement.

Recall R24B2 / NHTSA 24V-700 affects my 2019 Nissan LEAF. I received the initial notice in Oct 2024, warning me not to use DC fast charging due to fire risk. It’s now June 2025, and Nissan has failed to provide the promised software remedy. My vehicle remains partially unusable, and no timeline has been provided. I request NHTSA investigate this delay and compel Nissan to offer timely repair or replacement.

I am filing a formal complaint regarding Recall R24B2 (NHTSA 24V-700000) affecting my 2019 Nissan LEAF. Nissan instructed owners not to use Level 3/DC fast charging due to risk of battery overheating and fire. This removes a major advertised feature and substantially reduces the usability and value of the vehicle. Despite the recall being announced in 2024, no timely remedy has been provided. I have experienced the following impacts: Loss of fast charging capability Reduced travel usability Additional charging inconvenience and expenses Diminished vehicle value Ongoing concern regarding battery safety I request one or more of the following: Immediate permanent repair Battery replacement Buyback/repurchase assistance Compensation for loss of vehicle functionality

There has been a safety recall #24V-700 for my 2019 Nissan Leaf with regards to quick-charge ports due to potential fire risk with Level 3 charging. I have been waiting almost a year for this to be resolved. I want to sell my car. I am sure the fact there is a recall will prevent me from either selling it or getting a decent amount for it. I have spoken to a dealership and was told they are still waiting on the repair.

The following Nissan recall: NHTSA ID: 24V-700 NISSAN ID: R24B2 The issue was recognized in October of 2024, and owners of affected vehicles were advised not to use level 3 chargers, otherwise the battery cells could experience excessive lithium deposits, creating a risk of explosion. A fix was promised by November 2024, and then rescheduled to be done by spring of 2025 (Nissan's website still says March 2025 as date for remedy). Most recently, Nissan sent out a communication that the fix would be done by the "third quarter" of 2025. This is not only a safety hazard, as if someone forgets the recall, or is unaware of it, there is significant risk. On a practical level, I cannot undertake road trips with my vehicle, as the length of time it would take to recharge on level 2 simply is not logistically feasible. Even for daily commuting, I've had to spend considerable time the past year finding level 2 chargers and waiting for my vehicle to slowly charge. The length of time this has taken is excessive and Nissan should be either buying back all affected vehicles or else offering owners like myself significant settlement checks for the inconvenience.

Nissan issued a recall on my 2019 Nissan Leaf for unsafe level 3 charging. I understood the answer to be a software update. It has been almost two years and no solution. I can't drive from Colorado Springs to Denver and back without having to charge. I need to be able to do this and I even had to buy a cheap ICE to get back and forth. I need this car to do what I need or I need Nissan to replace the battery or buy my car back so I can drive it as I need.

I received a recall notice from Nissan on 9/19/24. It stated: "Until your vehicle is remedied, do NOT use the level 3 quick charge port (CHAdeMO). ....... If quick charging continues, a battery fire may occur, increasing the risk of injury." I was told by your office that Nissan "expects" to have a remedy by this summer. That's nearly a year of very limited use of my Nissan Leaf, never mind the significant reduction in its resale value. It is a very very poor standard of responsibility by Nissan.

Manufacturer announced a recall regarding L3 charging more than 18 months ago. The announcement included a warning that, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should L3 charging be attempted. The announcement included assurances that the fix would be announced by March 2025. In the interim period, two follow-ups have been announced, both coming well after the previous deadline. At this point. I have been unable to use my car in a normal manner, causing us to purchase an additional vehicle to cover the loss of use due to the defect. The manufacturer has offered no fix, no concrete timeline, and no compensation for the loss of use of the vehicle.
NHTSA #11740583
I have been waiting 2.5 years for this recall to be addressed, which far exceeds any standard of a "timeline manner."
NHTSA #11735310
When operating the vehicle above the minimum temperature recommended by the manufacturer, the battery state of charge has dropped multiple tens of percentage points in moments while driving on the highway while driving the speed limit. The starting point for the state of charge in this situation was roughly 64% when beginning the trip. This has occurred at roughly 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The vehicle gives a warning that the driver should pull over immediately, which is very dangerous when driving on an interstate highway in traffic. The state of charge dropped into the teens in moments. This cold weather issue was not disclosed when purchasing the vehicle. The minimum operating temperature for the vehicle is -1 to -13 degrees F depending on the operating conditions (charging, driving, etc.). This should not occur at 10 degrees F. A software fix to the battery to slow the state of charge will not remedy the issue with a faulty battery in this case. Why is this accepted when the Chevrolet Bolt vehicles were required to swap their batteries to remedy the issue? I have not had time to bring this into the dealer due to my schedule availability. I will try to reproduce this upcoming winter. Others online have reported this same problem though.
NHTSA #11732334
Nissan originally notified LEAF owners of a battery cell safety issue more than a year ago. The original solution was promised around March 2025 (six months ago now). This recall has been outstanding for more than a year and limits the long-range driving capabilities of the affected cars. My primary complaint is that Nissan has not addressed this issue in a timely manner and the online information shows outdated status (i.e. "NISSAN IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING A REMEDY PLAN THAT IS EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE by March 2025.). Clearly they are well past this anticipated solution time frame. It makes me wonder if they are doing ANYTHING.
NHTSA #11692090
Inability to use an advertised feature. They advertised 50Kwh CHAdeMO charging to me when I bought the car and now, they're asking me to not use it, I wouldn't accept this with anything else. Smaller dealers won't buy a car under active recall because many times they cannot sell a car under an active recall, which means I'm forced to go to a larger (probably Nissan) dealer only? Additionally, if I were to try to sell as a private party I wouldn't feel right selling a car under active recall and/or not disclosing there's an active recall which may affect my ability to sell or get the best price for it, especially when the recall is as serious as a FIRE RISK when using an advertised and integral feature. I am unable to recharge at home because I do not have an outlet that meets the l2 requirements. Additionally, I live in an apartment so I am unable to charge. This has caused me a mass inconvenience when trying to go to family events and other events that require long distance driving because the L2charger isn't sufficient enough for me to make to it on time to these events

For details please see: Manufacturer Recall Number R24B2 NHTSA Recall Number 24V-700 This battery issue has been known by the company but not yet addressed, despite them saying there would be a solution by March 2025. Quick charging remains not recommended which is a significant issue when using the vehicle on longer drives or for when more battery-intensive alternate routes are necessary. The ability to quick-charge a battery electric vehicle without worry of overheating or fire is a very low baseline for standard usage, and the company should fix the issue or offer replacement batteries as soon as possible.
NHTSA #11675231
This is in regards to recall number 24V-700. This recall was issued in September 2024 with a resolution set for November, then December 2024, then March 2025, and finally Spring 2025. We are now in the Summer of 2025 with no resolution yet. This recall limits the usefulness of my vehicle, and perceived value if sold due to not being able to fast charge.
NHTSA #11669105
I am unable to use the DC fast charge option as the recall specifically says I am not able to use it until a remedy is available. It has been more than 6 months, I am unable to use my vehicle as designed, and the range is unreasonably limited.
NHTSA #11662359
The vehicle has developed fluctuating range estimates when going up steep grades on the highway. I was traveling at about 72 mph on a 5% grade with a 50% battery charge and a 60-mile range estimate. The range instantly started to drop from 50% to 40%, then 20%, then 10%. The car then entered what is called “turtle mode,” which limits the top speed to 20 mph. I managed to get the car off the highway onto an off-ramp, and then the battery percentage returned to 50% and turtle mode was deactivated. I was told that the battery pack has a weak cell, and under heavy load, the car’s software detects the lowest voltage in the battery pack, triggering the turtle mode. This is a dangerous situation, as the car loses acceleration and can suddenly drop from 70 mph to 30 mph, putting the driver at risk of being rear-ended or causing an accident. I have recorded this event on camera for reference. I am aware that Nissan has an open recall for fire hazards related to Level 3 charging, but these vehicles are also plagued by faulty high-voltage battery packs.

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2023 A 2019 NISSAN LEAF FROM HGREG NISSAN I RECIEVED NOTIFICATION OF SOME RECALLS ONE WAS FIXED THE OTHER 2 WILL BE FIXED SOON. THE LATEST ONE IS THE BATTERY THAT IS DRAINING VERY FAST, AND IT IS NOW A RECALL WITH NO SOLUTION, UNABLE TO USE A FAST CHARGER AS THE CAR MAY CATCH ON FIRE, I SPEND AN AVERAGE OF 7 HOURS CHARGING THE CAR IN A REGULAR CHARGER WEEKLY. I FEEL THAT I AM PAYING FOR A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THE SOLUTION KEEPS ON GETTING DELAYED. I AM CONSIDERING HIRING AN ATTORNEY TO TRY TO FIND A SUITABLE SOLUTION FOR THIS SITUATION THAT IT IS AFFECTING MY DAILY LIVING AS THE MILES I AM GETTING ON A FULL CHARGE IS ABOUT 130 MILES AND THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH CHARGERS AROUND GIVING ME TREMENDOUS ANXIETY AND STRESS. I DO NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO EVEN TRADE IN THIS CAR AS I AM VERY UPSIDE DOWN OR EVEN SELL IT AS I AM GETTING A 3RD OF WHAT I OWE SINCE NO ONE WANTS TO BUY THIS CAR NOW.
NHTSA #11628875
Because of the unresolved battery problem for which a fix was promised by March 2025 the range of my vehicle is limited to the round trip distance from my house. At Highway speeds that means only 60 miles one way. If I am forced to charge at the available Highway rest stop charger I risk a fire, but I may have to do so. This is unacceptable.
NHTSA #11668643
Nissan has instructed us not to use fast charging. However, I do not have a home charger and do not have access to any other charging option besides fast charging. This leaves me in a very difficult position. I am extremely concerned about my family’s safety and my own. I am constantly worried that the vehicle could catch fire at any time while we are inside. This situation has caused significant stress and anxiety, as I no longer feel confident that the car is safe to drive. Given these concerns, I am requesting a buyback so that I can purchase a vehicle that I feel is safe and reliable. I do not want to continue putting my family at risk or live with the constant fear that something could happen while we are on the road.
NHTSA #11719254
Vehicle is subject to Recall R24B2 / NHTSA 24V-700 (battery fire risk during Level 3 DC fast-charging). Nissan issued a "do not use" directive for the CHAdeMO fast-charge port in October 2024 with a projected remedy date of November 2024. As of March 2026 — over 16 months later — no remedy has been provided. The affected component is the high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The battery is available for inspection. The defect has been confirmed by Nissan North America via recall notice and by an authorized Nissan dealer (February 2026), who confirmed no remedy is available. No warning lamps or symptoms were observed; the risk is established by Nissan's own recall documentation.Safety risk: Nissan's own recall states that continued Level 3 fast-charging may cause rapid battery heating and fire. The "do not use" directive effectively removes a core advertised feature of the vehicle with no timeline for restoration.I have contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs twice regarding this recall (February 2025 and November 2025) and received no remedy or timeline. Nissan has repeatedly postponed its repair schedule. A second related recall (NHTSA 25V655, October 2025) was subsequently issued covering additional model years, further confirming the defect remains unresolved industry-wide.I am formally demanding a vehicle buyback under NY Lemon Law (GBL § 198-a) and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act due to Nissan's failure to remedy this defect within a reasonable time.

All notices state that Nissan is working open a software fix for this problem, but state that the problem is the result of excessive lithium deposits within certain battery cells, hence level three charging my cause a battery fire. This has a significant impact on my use of this vehicle. There is currently no remedy, although they do apologize for the inconvenience. I request that NHTSA pressure Nissan to provide a battery replacement. This seems to me to also be a warranty issue. If the battery is still under warranty, shouldn't it be repaired of replaced?

This car has turned off on me randomly 3 times. I have taken it twice now to the dealership and each time they have found “nothing wrong with the car”. All of the recalls and maintenance on the car have continuously been done. The most recent recall was already done on it 2 days ago. The information on here that it hasn’t been done is false. The first time the car turned off was at a red light while my foot was fully on the brake so I was fully stopped. There were absolutely no warning signs and I immediately turned the car back on with no issues at all and drove normally after that (other than the fact I was scared to death about what just happened). The second 2 times have been when the car is on park. It is extremely random and my family and I fear for our life and safety. I ignored it after the first time that we took it in and they said nothing was wrong after running a diagnostic, but it has happened 2 times after that. I took it back in 2 days ago and they still found nothing wrong after doing the diagnostic. I am in “contact” with a regional affairs specialist but if you don’t answer them the first time there’s no way to get back in contact with them because they DO NOT answer your call at all. I called the general line and they said to wait until the 17th, which is almost in a WEEK. I know in my heart that I’m not lying and there’s something severely wrong with this car. I don’t even want to sell it because I don’t want to put other people’s safety at risk and feel responsible for that. I need an engineer an actual specialist someone who can help.

The recall was issued in 2024...there is still no remedy for it. I cannot use the vehicle to drive long distance and am very upset that Nissan continues to ignore consumers and not own up to the problem with the battery and fast charging.

While I have had no issues so far, the recall has been in place since September 2024, and Nissan has not provided a fix. This is far too long.

I am writing to make a formal complaint on how long this recall is taking for my vehicle. It’s been almost a year and no updates. I tried to get an appraisal for my vehicle but was turned away because the dealerships are unable to purchase my vehicle until the recall is resolved. I think its dangerous and very careless to know about this fire hazard while using the ChaDeMao fast charger but assume people will not need to use it over the course of the year. I have used the fast charger against the recall issue only in emergency situations, with caution, however, I don’t want to feel afraid to use it. Plus I am noticing a lot of fast chargers are taking this type of plug out of many chargers in my area. Is there an update with what Nissan will do for this recall? Will they switch over to the new standard fast charger adapter? I hope to find some answers when submitting this complaint.

Nissan has told it's customers to not fast charge the vehicle due to the risk of a battery fire, which is a big issue if you are trying to drive a longer distance. No ability to safely fast charge this vehicle makes it worthless unless you use it locally only. Nissan has promised a remedy for this situation, first deadline was March 2025, but they have consistently delayed this action. Something needs to be done in order to rectify this issue. I do not feel safe fast charging this vehicle, and it's pretty worthless to me as a primary vehicle.

I purchased a 2019 Nissan LEAF in January 2024 and registered it with the DMV. Nissan never notified me of Recall R24B2, despite federal requirements that current registered owners be contacted. Because I was not notified, I used Level 3 quick charging more than 50 times before learning of the recall. The recall states that using fast charging can pose a fire hazard and risk of injury or death. Nissan’s failure to notify me placed me, my children, my passengers, and vehicles parked near me at charging stations in danger. Nissan has admitted that they never notified me, and I have written confirmation from them and from NHTSA that manufacturers are required to notify all registered owners. Nissan has still not provided a concrete remedy or addressed compensation for the danger and hardship caused. This is not just a defect — it is negligence and a serious consumer safety failure. I request that NHTSA investigate Nissan’s failure to notify owners and require Nissan to provide both a timely remedy and financial compensation.

I was driving on the highway and sped up slightly to get into the passing lane. Suddenly, the dashboard changed to “Service EV system no power” and the car completely dropped out of acceleration, de-accelerated and lost power. With no warning. With the momentum I already had, I was able to get to the shoulder, but if anyone had been behind me, I would have been hit.

This vehicle has recall with fast charging component. When we purchased this pre-owned car, the remedy date for this recall was given as November 2024. Hence we purchased this vehicle even though there was a recall. Now the remedy date on the website shows as March 2025. Because of which we are not able to use this vehicle to go office where we could have charged the vehicle using fast-EV charger in office parking. It is inconvenient for us.

Received a recall notice for my 2019 Nissan Leaf that there was an issue with the battery, they promised a remedy by November 2024. They then pushed the remedy 6 months and we are past the pushed time. The recall states that there is a chance of fire if using the high speed charger. Makes the car unusable for long distance travel because I have small child and will not risk her safety to charge the car on a trip.
NHTSA #11661902
I am filing this complaint regarding the ongoing safety risk and lack of remedy for NHTSA Recall 24V-700, which affects my 2019 Nissan Leaf. This recall was officially initiated in September/October 2024 due to a risk of high-voltage battery fires during Level 3 (DC Fast) charging caused by lithium deposits in the battery cells. It has been approximately 16 months since Nissan issued the interim notification advising owners to stop using Level 3 quick charging. To date, no functional remedy has been provided. This delay has resulted in: 1. Unaddressed Fire Risk: The vehicle contains a known defect that can lead to a thermal incident. While Nissan’s interim "solution" is to avoid fast charging, the underlying hardware defect remains in the vehicle. 2. Loss of Essential Functionality: I am unable to use the advertised DC fast-charging capability of my vehicle. This severely limits the vehicle's utility for trips beyond its immediate range and forces me to rely exclusively on slower Level 1 or Level 2 charging, which is not always feasible. 3. Unreasonable Delay: Under 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301, manufacturers are required to remedy safety defects within a reasonable time. A delay of over a year for a software-based fix (which Nissan has stated is the intended remedy) is unreasonable and leaves the consumer with a diminished and potentially hazardous product. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate the cause of this extensive delay and compel Nissan to either provide an immediate repair, offer a vehicle buyback, or replace the defective battery modules, as the proposed software "patch" appears insufficient to address the physical cell degradation.

I own a 2019 Nissan Leaf that is subject to safety recall # RS4B2. Outrageously, while this safety recall was issued almost a year ago, Nissan has to date still not offered an actual remedy. Instead, for the last year, Nissan's "remedy" has been to simply instruct Leaf owners to indefinitely refrain from DC fast-charging our vehicles. This instruction is not only logistically absurd - akin to telling the owners of gas vehicles that they can't visit gas stations for an entire year - but also financially damaging: it has rendered our vehicles totally unusable for many driving applications for almost a year. As such, Nissan's instruction to its customers to indefinitely refrain from using their vehicles the way they were marketed and sold is not merely an inconvenience but rises to the level of consumer fraud. I have asked Nissan to provide just one of the following, all of which they have refused: 1. a loaner Nissan Leaf capable of safely DC fast charging 2. an offer to repurchase my Nissan Leaf 3. a statement in writing from Nissan USA that while waiting for Nissan's still non-existent remedy to its safety recall, I may continue to DC fast-charge my Nissan Leaf without voiding the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. I would be willing to accept any one of these three solutions at Nissan USA's choosing. What I am not willing to accept is being told that, until Nissan gets around to releasing a remedy to a safety recall that it issued almost a year ago, I may not use the car that I purchased according to its specifications. What can NHTSA do to force Nissan to resolve this issue?

Nissan has had an open recall for over a year and sent me multiple recall letters for NHTSA Recall Number: 24V-700. This recall has had no remedy to date. It was opened in 2024. I have to commute to work daily and am not able to fast charge my 2019 Nissan leaf anymore. This renders the car useless for my daily driving. I am only able to slow charge and not able to use the car for its intended purpose and original purpose. Please help as the resale of this vehicle has dropped from this recall. I am stuck with a car I cannot use for which it was advertised for. I'm looking into doing a buyback but wanted to start here for help.
NHTSA #11699746
For my Nissan Leaf 2019, I used DC fast charger to charge up while returning home from another town, with battery below 8%. It charged and got home and plugged in my Level2 charger overnight. In morning it displayed a “Service EV System” error and became undriveable. It would not go into Drive or Reverse. It will go into Neutral or Parking only. When I got it towed to Dealership, they cleared the code and gave back the car as drivable. But when I plugged in Level2 charger overnight, next morning same issue occured. Now Dealership did full diagnostics and tells me the car needs PDM (Power Distribution Module) replaced. Nissan previously issued Service Campaign P9351 for this exact issue, but my VIN is not included. I believe my vehicle has the same defective PDM and poses a safety risk due to sudden loss of drive power. Nissan has declined coverage. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether the recall should be expanded to include additional affected vehicles. Also there is open Recall R24B2 regarding Lithium Battery getting too hot durinig Fast DC charging for which they don't have the Remedy yet. I recall that only 3-4 weeks before above incident, I had my previous Fast DC charging session, after which I got a message on dashboard saying something like "Battery is very hot". I waited for 10 minutes before driving. Each time I would drive from standstill position, it will accelerate very slowly, but eventually drive OK after speeding up. I came home and let it cool overnight, and did not notice same symptom again until above PDM related issue happened after next Fast DC charging session.

2019 Nissan Leaf Battery Recall: 1 year out from recall announcement, still no repair is available, and it is unsafe to use fast charging for risk of fire. Nissan advertised repairs for recall coming in late 2024, then March 2025. It is now July 2025, and still no repair, and Nissan Corporate will not provide a financial remedy. Have spoken with Consumer Affairs, and they claim no obligation. Unable to use the car to travel longer distances (>45min away from home) because fast charging is unsafe. Consumer Affairs gave me run around. Called back 24 hours after initially promised, at 4 minutes before end of work day on a Friday. Once I finally spoke with the Consumer Affairs rep the next Tuesday, they claimed no obligation under my state's laws to remedy the issue. They refused to email the denial letter that contained this response to the issue and stated that I would have to wait for a physical copy to be sent in the mail 4-8 weeks later. I have gone to 2 Nissan dealerships in the last 2 weeks to attempt to get this recall repaired, and they all report the same issue. It is not possible to repair the battery because Nissan has not provided a solution. 1 year later, this "solution" is still in development. I do not have more time to wait. Moreover, I should be covered by the battery warranty up to 100k miles (I have 51k miles on car) and it does not expire until March 2027.

While driving, the car will fluctuate its battery percentage, similar to the report in NHTSA Recall 24V-700. While driving down the highway with 67%, it suddenly swung down to 10% displaying a "Battery charge is low Charge now" warning on the dash. My concern is that if I'd have had less charge after the swing in battery percentage, the car could have turned on it's "turtle mode" at highway speed on open freeway. My local dealer has confirmed that this is a similar concern to the one outlined in Nissan's recall r24b2 (NHTSA 24V-700), and should be resolved with that fix. I feel that this warrants updating the recall to include fluctuations occurring at speed as well. There are no warnings during the percentage swings while driving, only when it swung below the normal threshold for the "Battery charge is low. Charge now." warning did anything come up.

Per NHTSA ID Number: 24V700000: Summary Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2020 LEAF vehicles equipped with a Level 3 quick charging port. The lithium-ion battery may overheat during Level 3 charging. Remedy Owners are advised not to use Level 3 quick charging until the remedy is completed. Dealers will update the battery software, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed October 10, 2024. A second notice will be sent once the remedy becomes available, anticipated in Quarter 3 of 2025. This is a phased recall. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R24B2. It has been a year with no fix and no remedy in sight, and it is now Quarter 4 of 2025. Level 3 quick charging allows for longer roadtrips and the use of the car has been limited to only local driving since the recall was issued.

I was driving on city streets at 25 mph or less, using the Nissan Leaf e-pedal system (which automatically slows the car to a stop when you let off the accellerator), when an alert flashed up on my dashboard, saying something like: “e-pedal system disconnected, use brake pedal to stop”. There was also a check engine light and an ABS warning indicator on. When I pushed down on the brake pedal I felt no resistance and no braking action. When I put the brake pedal to the floor, there was a vibration and a little bit of braking, but somewhat ineffective. I drove slow speed to a safe place to stop, and turned the car off. After calling for a tow, I turned the car back on and the brake system functioned normally. I had the car towed to a Nissan Dealership service department. The dealership read code C118A-97 stored as a “past code”. They erased the codes and performed DTC confirmation procedure and code did not return. Dealership service department road tested vehicle and no signs of malfunction. They inspected brake fluid level, level was normal but was dirty. I authorized service department flush and replace the brake fluid, which they did. They again road tested the vehicle, and I picked up the vehicle later.

I am writing to report a serious safety issue with my Nissan Leaf that needs immediate attention. On two separate occasions, the brakes have failed completely without any warning while driving. A warning light appeared, stating "T/M System Malfunction Warning - See Dealer," but by that time, the brakes had already stopped working. The only way to stop the vehicle was by using the emergency brake, which is extremely dangerous and could easily lead to a fatal accident. The first incident occurred when I was able to quickly pull into a Walmart parking lot, luckily avoiding other vehicles. The second time, the car crashed into the side of my garage and hit a tree stump in my driveway, causing damage to the rear of the car and breaking the side mirror. I was fortunate enough to engage the emergency brake before the car entered the road, but it was a terrifying experience that could have ended much worse. Fortunately, did not happen while my teenage children and their friends were driving the car. After researching this issue, I was shocked to discover that many other Nissan Leaf owners have experienced similar brake failures dating back to 2012. This is not an isolated incident, and I am deeply concerned that it continues to happen without resolution. When I brought my car to the dealership, they informed me that the issue is related to the Intelligent Brake Unit Controller, and the repairs would cost $5,000. However, my vehicle is only five years old with 62,000 miles, and I believe this defect should be addressed by Nissan, not at the owner's expense. I urge you to take immediate action to investigate this dangerous defect. There is no warning before the brakes fail, and this puts drivers and others on the road at extreme risk. Does it really take a fatal accident for Nissan to address this issue? This problem has been ongoing for years, and it’s unacceptable that it has not been resolved. I hope that you will take this matter seriously and provide a solution befo

There was no incident...but I am reporting the fact that Nissan has not provided a remedy and the recall has been in place over a year. I and other owners of affected Nissan Leafs are not able to use the car to its full capacity. I strongly recommend NHTSA encourage/force Nissan to deliver a remedy and, indeed, compensation for the fact that these cars could not be use for long-distance driving for over a year (and counting).

Nissan Leaf experienced large state of charge fluctuations while driving. State of charge was jumping up and down rapidly. Vehicle was taken in to Alpine Nissan in Federal Height, Colorado. Car was diagnosed with a cell imbalance across multiple cells which coincides with recall number R24B2 (NTHSA - 24V-700). I have been trying for weeks to get Nissan Consumer Affairs to give me a solution for the car as its undrivable due to the safety defect. At this point I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone in the last week. The car has a serious loss of power risk and is a fire hazard. The defect is well documented in the recall. The raw battery data and invoice for battery replacement is attached. Case number with Nissan is #[XXX]. I cannot get a written statement from the manufacturer or the dealer that the car is safe to drive in its current state. My 2019 Nissan Leaf has been under recall since September 2024 (Recall #24V700000) due to being a fire hazard when using Level 3 chargers, also known as fast charging. I understand that issues can take time and specialized parts to resolve a recall. However, it is now 10 months later and Nissan still has no remedy to offer for this issue, leaving me unable to safely utilize this key feature. As a result of this delay, I have not been able to drive my vehicle on longer trips and instead make alternate arrangements like renting a vehicle at my own expense. This is also limiting my ability to sell or trade in the vehicle, which ultimately has diminished its value. While I have not suffered direct physical harm from Nissan's delay in resolving this recall, it has negatively impacted the quality and long-term value of the product.

My 2019 Nissan Leaf (VIN: [XXX] ) has a known charging-related defect. The vehicle became undrivable on [XXX], due to its inability to charge. It had previously exhibited the same issue on [XXX]. The dealership (Grand Strand Nissan) has had the vehicle for over a week and has not been able to fix it. They are working with Nissan engineers but no repair or resolution has been found. The issue appears related to a known recall (R24B2), for which no fix is currently available. April 20, 2026 NHTSA Safety Complaint I am reporting an unresolved safety issue involving my 2019 Nissan LEAF subject to NHTSA Recall 24V-700. This recall identifies a battery defect that presents a fire risk and requires avoidance of Level 3 (CHAdeMO) charging. There is currently no remedy available and no repair timeline. This restriction significantly limits the usability of the vehicle, which I rely on for daily transportation and work. The vehicle is also subject to a separate HVAC/defrost-related safety issue that may impact visibility and safe operation, also without an available fix. I made multiple documented attempts to resolve this directly with Nissan Consumer Affairs, including a formal escalation sent via certified mail. Nissan has failed to respond. Additionally, prior written correspondence from Nissan referenced an incorrect vehicle model (“Rogue”) despite having my correct VIN on file, raising serious concerns regarding the accuracy of the review conducted on my case. I am continuing to incur financial hardship for a vehicle I cannot safely or practically use. NHTSA records confirm this recall remains incomplete with no available remedy, and that continued use of Level 3 charging presents a risk of battery fire. I am requesting investigation into the lack of remedy and manufacturer response

Nissan has reported than some cars could abruptly catch fire while DC fast charging due to excessive lithium deposits within the battery cells. In certain circumstances, those excess deposits could create additional electrical resistance while fast charging, overheating the battery pack and causing a fire. The NHTSA's reference number is 24V-700. This problem was first discovered in 2024 and officially reported in September 2024. This is nearly a year and a half ago and limits the usefulness of the vehicle to local driving only. It is ridiculous that a remedy still hasn't been implemented.

While traveling at normal highway speeds (55 MPH), the vehicle's battery capacity rapidly dropped from 80-90% down to 10% in less than 30 seconds, resulting in activation of the vehicle's "turtle mode" and power throttling, which made it impossible to maintain posted highway speed of 55 MPH. A warning appeared on the dashboard, which stated, "Warning Power Reduced". The vehicle traveled at approximately 40 MPH creating a serious hazard to others on the roadway who were traveling at the posted speed limit of 55 MPH. Upon pulling over to the side of the freeway, the battery charge rebounded back up to 75%, but maintained power throttle, making it unsafe to reenter the roadway, as the vehicle was incapable of accelerating to the posted speed limit of 55 MPH. It was extremely slow to accelerate at all, making it from 0 - 40 in about a minute, which again, was extremely hazardous to others on the roadway. Nissan has since acknowledged that this was due to a factory defect, and covered under their factory warranty. I have attached photos of the warning message displayed, and have videos of the rapid battery loss, but those files are too large to attach.

RE: Manufacturer Recall Number R24B2 - No Remedy available for more than a year! I am the original owner of my 2019 Nissan Leaf SL in California but have been unable to use my car for traveling due to the fast charge port recall. I have performed all the services and the recalls at the local Nissan dealer but there is still no remedy for the fast charge issue. As per the purchase agreement with Nissan, I should be able to use fast chargers without limitation but the lack of ability to use the fast charge port has severely hampered my ability to use the vehicle to travel even within my state. Nissan has promised a fix for more than a year but has failed to deliver.

I took my car in for a few recalls and was informed that the Manufacturer Recall Number R24B2/NHTSA Recall Number 24V-700 fix was not available. The recall has been in effect for 1 year now and there is still no remedy. This is affecting the ability to use the car to its fullest due to the safety risk associated with Level 3 quick charging. If I was to quick charge the car it could result in damage to the battery and even fire. I cannot sell the car either due to the recall. Please have Nissan make this right. They need to fix the issue or initiate a buyback.

2019 Nissan Leaf, purchased in USA, 3 years ago. Moved to Canada and imported vehicle through proper methods. When entered into Canada and waiting for safety inspection paperwork, learned that there was an open recall. The open recall is for battery Level3 charging issues. Can catch fire. In order to get safety inspection paperwork, this recall needs to be resolved. Constantly communicating with Nissan US and Nissan Canada, dealership and corporate for a fix and release and it has been scheduled and postponed for the past 2 years. There is no fix or resolution in sight. I cannot legally inspect, register, insure and drive my vehicle during this time. Ive waited 3-4 months now and because I imported from the states, Im one of the few Leaf vehicles that cannot drive my car while recall fix is pending. And its been pending for 2 years now. I simply need my vehicle resolved so I drive my car. No complaint to the dealership, or Nissan corporate has yielded any results.

I've had four incidents of the automatic braking system engaging and braking when there was no object in front of the car that should have required it to stop. While driving during rainy conditions on January 19, the windshield wipers stopped working, resulting in obstructed view through front windshield while driving in the rain. Following, they worked intermittently for a week and then stopped working altogether. The exact failure has not been identified but is either a damage rod or non-functional motor; likely the motor as there is no noise coming from motor when the wipers are turned on. No warnings. R24B2 Battery recall has been going on for a full year now with remedies being moved every time the date has been reached. Recall campaign R24B2 was issued 9/20/24 and there is still no remedy. It has prevented me from using my vehicle as intended because I am unable to go anywhere with a longer distance since I can't use level 3 charging. This issue has not been fixed in a timely manner and I contacted the dealership in 2025 - they DID NOT RESPOND. This is unacceptable. I believe I am entitled to a repurchase since I am unable to fully utilize this car safely. Also, another problem was just discovered regarding the heating system not functioning properly on extremely cold days. I live in MN and this has been a serious problem this winter. I hope Nissan is investigated.
