Last year I received a message, letter and perhaps an email related to my jeep and recall for the clutch plate assembly. The recall was performed twice because first was incorrect. Transmission had to be replaced a few weeks later. Since then, I've had numerous visits to dealership, and had several incidents this week traveling across country to clear "Service Transmission messages: on the display, and two incidents where the jeep went into "limp mode" at high speeds. Four more stops have not fixed the problem. Now I am at a place who has found that the transmission was not installed properly, the software wasn't properly flashed and things were left hanging (connectors and cables) without being properly secured. The transmission was replaced under warranty, which has run out, but these messages have been appearing since the original recall. Now, I am going to have to pay a large fee (over 3000 dollars) to get Jeep back. Plus paying 100 to another dealership in Kansas to have them look at the jeep without a remedy. (See:Jeep Recall 19A / NHTSA Campaign 23V116, NHTSA Recall 24V-572, NHTSA Recall 21V-028 / Jeep Recall Y01 ) - my Jeep is listed as "0 recalls" but the dealership has not reported any work on my vehicle to CarFax. The repair shop is working with me to collect evidence (Photos, documentation, and data about the Jeep's issues. ALL of this began immediately after the first recall last year, and these problems have not been remedied, and the Jeep has become dangerous when on the highway. (Limp mode multiple times: 17 Feb2026, 13 May 26, 13 May 26 all at highway speeds). This should have been covered under warranty, and I should not be subjected to "No repair" because a dealership "Doesn't see a problem" - the computer doesn't keep any codes for these incidents, thus they will not dig into the problem, and now warranty has expired so they can charge whatever they wish.

I recently experienced significant transmission issues, specifically hard engage in reverse (cold), and failure to shift higher than 3rd gear. The rear axle is leaking and the front axle is shaking. My jeep has the P0733 code for the D-clutch failure confirmed at a Jeep dealership, along with the steering damper Campaign XF1 and the Dana M220 axle (TSB 03-001-23) and should be included in these TSB’s/CSN’s/Campaigns! It is currently sitting at the Jeep Dealership in Covington, La unable to be driven needing $9790 worth of repairs from all of these and I’ve barely had it a year! I am so disappointed in Jeep
NHTSA #11739847
Engine light came on, vehicle went into limp mode. Transmission would not shift any higher than 3rd gear and kept slipping while on interstate! Was almost hit by several 18 wheelers! Jeep dealership said our vin is not part of the service bulletin but they did get the P0733 code! Make it make sense! I guess we’re supposed to get run over by 18 wheelers before they’ll fix it!

There was a recall for the clutch. I took it to the dealer (Autonation Jeep in Santa Clarita, CA). Ever since then, there is an intermittent, non-reproducible grinding and clicking (sound and feeling through the pedal) in the clutch (like a loose piece/nut is bouncing around and clanking and grinding against the clutch). The clutch pedal is also more spongy, catching only about halfway down, and sometimes feeling like at full depression it is not entirely engaged. I have taken it back to the dealer twice, and both times they will not work on it because they cannot hear or reproduce the feel/sound. The sponginess of the clutch is subjective, they say, and their opinion is that it feels fine.

Gladiator on 3rd transmission and likely to need a 4th now at 26,000 miles. Each one failed the same way. The second gear in the manual transmission starts occasionally popping out of gear while driving and progresses in frequency over time to the point that it is impossible to keep in second gear at all. This may result in unsafe conditions such as loss of control of the vehicle. Each of my first two transmissions which were replaced were inspected by dealership technicians and the problem found to be easily repeatable. On tearing down of the transmission, pieces of internal components such as synchros were found to be disintegrated. I believe the transmissions were inspected by engineers from Jeep or its parent company though no findings were made available to myself. There were no warnings beyond the gradual escalation of the issue itself. The problem started happening at about 8000 to 10,000 miles on each transmission.

Brought vehicle in for new tires. Upon inspection it was found that the rear axle seal was leaking. Contacted Jeep customer service and was told vehicle had no recalls. I state that there was a Customer Service Notification for this issue and was told there was not. Was told vehicle was out of warranty and was at was at my expense. Told the service rep that this issue was brought up when it was in warranty and was told by dealership that it wasn't an issue. Customer rep then told me i needed to get a second opinion at that time and that there was nothing that could be done.

2021 Jeep Gladiator at 43K miles brought in for oil change. Lube tech noticed that the right rear axle seal was leaking fluid with fluid sprayed over the inner wheel and nearby assembly. FSA Customer Satisfaction Notification states to reference CSN 26A and that the recommended remedy is to replace the right rear shaft. If not repaired/replaced, this could lead to damage to the transmission. I contacted my local dealership who informed me that my vehicle had no open recalls, even though Jeep forums state the problem is affecting thousands of Gladiators like mine.

Stellantis announced a recall in Feb/Mar 2023 for manual transmission Jeep gladiators and wranglers. My vehicle is a 2021 gladiator. There was some initial discussion of July 2023 as a solution and recall taking place, then eventually that was pushed back to Sep 2023. Now in Sep 2023 Jeep is saying it may be Jan 2024 for a solution to be announced,. Then they will take time in phases for different model years to get the solution, Hopefully a new and Improved clutch. According to the latest plan, I would not get the recall performed until July 2024. This is ridiculous. Jeep knows they need to replace approx 70,000 clutches to makes this right. I should not have to wait (at this date) for a year and a half and perhaps longer. Can you make Jeep either provide the clutches now, or fully reimburse us for installing aftermarket clutches in our vehicles? We do not want to be driving ticking times bombs for exploding clutches, thanks!

In December contacted my dealer about my vehicle catching fire. Due to a clutch recall that the maker already knew about. I was blown off as if the problem didn't exsist and told the dealer would not honor Jeep warranty so not to bring it there. The next option is an hour away and they were booking 2 months out. Then in March I looked up the recalls and the exact issue with my Jeep was recalled now on my Jeep with no remedy. This recall has been open on these since 2020 with no remedy. Called Jeep and they have no remedy or care in helping me make sure my brand new 2021 Jeep doesn't burn down. Also, the clutch has caused my transmission to now start slipping in 3rd gear. Someone needs to hold Jeep accountable.

This afternoon I was driving on a 35mph 4 lane road when my power steering suddenly went out. Because it was unusually light traffic and there are no turns or curves, I was able to safely maintain my lane until the power steering resumed just as quickly as it went out. Most women struggle with manually steering a normal sized car- a truck this heavy is nearly impossible. Had I been going any faster or if I were on a curve, I would have absolutely wrecked. There were no alarms, no signals no messages, nothing. Because this Judy happened, I have not yet had it looked at my a mechanic.
NHTSA #11716509
While angling into a turn lane, I was forced to go back into lane of traffic first signaling into the turn lane (left) then out (right) turn signal seemed to get stuck on, Steering wheel became locked and would only move a fraction of an inch either left or right. Once I was around the obstruction in the turn lane I angled back into it and was able to come to a stop. Once stopped the turn signal very loudly clicked off and the wheel was once again able to be actually turned. The ESS was disabled the whole time and at no point did the vehicle cease to be on and engine running.

My name is [XXX] , and I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding the loss of my vehicle due to engine fire. The vehicle was a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, VIN [XXX] , with approximately 26,666 miles at the time of loss. I purchased the vehicle on May 13, 2021. The fire occurred on July 10, 2025. I was driving on the freeway, and my vehicle lost power and dashboard warning lights illuminated. When I pulled over, the engine was on fire. The fire department came and doused the flames but my entire engine was destroyed. After the fire, I retained legal counsel and initiated an independent investigation through Fire Cause Analysis in Berkeley, California. Their findings identified the origin of the fire as being linked to the power steering pump electrical connector. I later discovered that NHTSA has an open investigation identified as PE24024 concerning Jeep Gladiator engine fires which notes that the fires reported to NHTSA for this vehicle originated at the power steering pump electrical connector - coinciding with the finding of Fire Cause Analysis. We were heading out on a vacation trip on a cold(20+ degree day). We had just reached a road that we were merging on to and started accelerating to get up to speed. I went to change lanes, doing about 50mph, to pass a slower moving vehicle. I noticed the power steering quit functioning and had to muscle the steering to keep from going off the road. I continued down the road without power steering. When we slowed down to about 30mph to make the next turn, power steering started to function again. No more occurrances for the rest of the trip. I have not had it checked due to there is nothing failing now. I have read many Jeep forum posts of the same happening to other Jeep Gladiator owners with the electronic Power Steering pumps, and being cold days, while accelerating and no power steering, then regaining when slowing to 30mph.

After about 27000 miles, I was driving down I476 at approximately 55-65 mph. It was on a stretch of road with occasional ridges and on hitting one of them, the steering began to vibrate more and more. It eventually resolved itself as I slowed down to around 40 mph. This happened on a number of occasions under much the same conditions and I took the vehicle into Videon, a local Jeep dealer. They immediately replaced the steering damper as they claimed it was worn. I do not have the old damper, it was retained by Videon. I feel that had the road conditions been any less than dry and offering good grip, the vehicle may well have become uncontrollable as the shimmy was very violent. The steering on this vehicle has always been vague but I put that down to the relatively antiquated design of the Jeep and the fact that our other car is a Subaru which is very precise.

This vehicle has a death wobble above 50 mph when hitting a slight bump in the road causing loss of control. It has been repaired multiple times with no resolution. We tried arbitration but because we continued to drive it, they ruled in the manufacture's favor not understanding we had no choice but to continue driving it to take my wife's father to cancer treatments. It now has 56000 miles on it and is dangerous to drive. I did file a complaint here two years ago and wonder why a recall hasn't happened since I am not the only one with this issue. Every Jeep owner I talk to said they had the death wobble but after upgrading the suspension, it went away. A vehicle owner shouldn't have to spend thousands to fix a 50+ thousand dollar vehicle to make it safe to drive.

On [XXX] at approximately [XXX] I was travelling West on [XXX] , between Hamlin and Kimballton, Iowa. I had been driving with my cruise control set at 60MPH, until I caught up to an 18 wheel livestock semi truck. The semi was travelling near 40MPH due to curves in the road in this area. With no traffic coming from the West and an acceptable stretch of passing zone, I decided to pass the semi. As I entered the Eastbound lane to begin my pass, I pressed the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and accelerated past the semi. As I was completing the pass, the road began to curve to the left, which naturally caused the Jeep to re-enter the Westbound lane, which is what was expected and is what I wanted to do, as I was well clear of the semi. What startled me, actually scared me to death, is when I attempted to steer to the left in order to remain centered in the Westbound lane. When I attempted to steer, the steering wheel seemed to be locked in the straight forward position. I grabbed the steering wheel with both hands and it took pretty much all I had to force the steering wheel to turn left at all. I had to have come within inches of dropping off the shoulder on the right (North) side of the road, while still in the left curve. The steering remained very "tight" and very hard to move much outside of the centered position. I continued driving as there was very little traffic. Upon reaching the town of Harlan, IA I had planned to stop and access the situation. However, when the vehicle speed slowed to somewhere around 30MPH, the steering system corrected itself and began to function normally. I continued to my destination in Omaha, NE without further issue. To say that this event scared me is an understatement. It could not have happened at a worse time and I believe I was within inches of exiting the roadway due to the inability to control the vehicle. I am certain that if my wife or kids had been driving, a crash would have INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding a serious safety issue with my 2021 Jeep Gladiator (VIN: [XXX] ). On Sunday, [XXX], while my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway near our home in southeast Boston, she experienced intense and violent shaking that did not subside until she slowed down and pulled over. She was alone at the time, and the event was frightening and could have led to a severe accident. Upon researching the issue, she discovered it is commonly referred to as the "Death Wobble," a phenomenon widely reported online and even acknowledged by Jeep dealers, including Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Columbia. Following the incident, I contacted our local Jeep dealer, Best Jeep in Plymouth, MA, to have the vehicle inspected. Their service team identified the issue and replaced the following parts: •Damper Steering •Bolt Shoulder Square Neck •Nut Hex Flange Lock •Bolt Hex Flange Head •Nut Hex Nut Coned Washer When I inquired with Service Advisor Matthew Preston about warranty coverage, he informed me that the repairs were not covered because the vehicle is outside the warranty period. However, he also mentioned that this problem is common in other Jeeps, further emphasizing its systemic nature. From my research, I learned that Jeep has acknowledged this issue in the past. A proposed settlement in 2022 extended warranty coverage for specific models, including certain Jeep Gladiators, to cover the replacement of front suspension dampers. This settlement highlights the widespread nature of the "Death Wobble" and the manufacturer’s recognition of the problem. Numerous Jeep owners have reported similar issues, and the phenomenon is so concerning that it has been the subject of widespread media. I firmly believe that it should be addressed through a factory recall. A vehicle as recent as our 2021 Jeep Gladiator should not be experiencing such critical safety issues. My 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave began experiencing "Death Wobble" in early December, 2024, at highway speeds after hitting a bump in the road. I purchased this vehicle new from the dealer in 2021. I put new tires on the vehicle at 60,000 miles in September, 2024. The wobble is violent and sustained resonant shaking of the front end that continues until the vehicle speed decreases below 30 MPH. I had the front end inspected and the wheels re-balanced and rotated by Big-O, but the problem persists. Big-O indicated that the bushings, stabilizers, tie-rods, ball joints and bearings appeared tight, but the steering damper may need to be replaced. I've attempted numerous times to schedule investigation and repair with the Stoneridge Dodge Chrysler dealer in Pleasanton, CA, but so far have been unsuccessful. The dealer does not appear to take this issue seriously, and said I may need to leave the vehicle with them for a week or two until they could get around to looking at it. I've started researching this issue and discovered that there are pages of complaints on NHTSA and the blogs are full of horror stories regarding this issue. There was a class-action lawsuit settled by FCA but it appears to apply only to the 2020 Gladiator and 2018-2020 Wranglers. Service Bulletin 02-004-21 has some instruction for re-torquing the lower ball joints and Mopar Case Number [XXX] has instruction for replacement of the Steering Damper 68251580AF and outboard attachment bolt 06513445AA. Hopefully, FCA will step up and correct this issue before someone is seriously injured or killed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At highway speed and encountering a small bump the front-end will jump violently side to side. This can only be stopped by braking to below 50 MPH. Nearly got rear-ended numerous times.
NHTSA #11559911
Uncontrollable wobble in the front end that starts after 50mph. I have seen many other online comments about this, and they are saying Jeep cannot fix it. This is absolute fatality waiting to happen. This needs to be addressed immediately before someone dies, if it hasn't already happened. This issue goes back quite a number of years. There has not been a recall on this and I cannot believe that. I have seen that there has been a class action law suit filed by Jeep owners, and I am astounded that nothing has been done. I am hoping NHTSA can help us before something happens. Thank You.

Multiple attempts to correct “death wobble “. Problem began in March 2023. Available for inspection upon request. Steering issues caused safety concerns for the driver and passengers, as well as other drivers and passengers on the road. Problem confirmed and multiple attempts to repair were made by Jeep dealership. No inspection by anyone besides the dealership service department. No warning lights activated.

In the last two months my truck has developed an issue at high speeds when a bump is gone over that causes the front end to shake violently. The only way to stop the vibration is to slow down which can be hard to do on the highway at 70mph without causing an accident. The problem occurs without notice or warning and the bump does not have to be large. Have taken in to dealer and the front stabilizer bar is loose and allowing play in steering system. Have been told at least 2 months before parts arrive. The shaking has happened twice in just the last week. It appears to be getting worse with each mile driven. I do not feel safe driving this truck but have to keep driving it.

My 2021 Gladiator frequently experiences the Death Wobble at Highway speeds when I hit bumps in the road. We received a postcard in the mail references the problem with 2018 - 2020 Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Gladiators but not 2021 and this same problem is happening. It is very scary when you hit a bump and the steering wheel just starts shaking like crazy or as referenced above a Death Wobble.

While Driving at highway speed on I75. As the vehicle hit a pot hole/ bumpy portion of roadway, the steering was uncontrollable. I checked the internet and it’s referred to as the “Death Wobble”. This has happed twice to me. The dealer changed the steering damper. It’s a serious safety issue. I’m surprised there hasn’t been a recall yet. This needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured or forbid killed.

12-30-2022 When driving truck on interstate going over a bridge the bump caused a death wobble and wouldn't stop until brake pushed. Did this twice in about 2 miles while driving 65 miles an hour. Took it to the shop and was told replacing front end parts after they experienced it also. Shop called said Chrysler said to turn steering wheel to left and right 25 times, then they test drove it again and said it quit. We picked it up and still doing it.

Steering wheel shaking wile driving around 65 MPH, specially on cold weather around 30 to 40 degrees. Death wobble is the term I found been coming on jeep wranglers and gladiators. But not understand how this issue is not a recall from the FCA company. I bring my vehicle one time to the dealership the entire front suspension was replaced and the issue was ok for 11 months, now is happening again.
NHTSA #11502728
October 2022 at 19000 miles the vehicle started getting steering wheel wobble after crossing bridge seams at 70mph. It gradually got worse until we'd almost loose control so in November I contacted the dealer and FCA. They have had it back in the shop, replaced the steering dampener, track bar, and are now waiting on more parts to replace because they are unable to find the root cause of this steering issue. I see a lot of people reporting the same issue and having the same experience. Since the vehicle randomly causes loss of control, I am looking at arbitration to get it replaced via the lemon law. Jeep needs to be forced to recall these vehicles and either fix or remove ALL of them from the road.

I purchased this vehicle on May 25th. On june 4th it was parked out side my front porch and my house along with the jeep burned completely down. the fire was first witnessed on the front porch right where the jeep was parked. I was out of town working and had a friend there dog sitting for me. She and the dogs got out safely althoug she was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was released later that evening. The arson investigation is still on going. as of monday June 8th, Both the arson investigator and home insurnace investigator could not determine the origin of the fire. When the recall went public on june 11th i informed them of the recall and have not gotten much back from either of them. The scene has yet to be re-visted. I drove the truck maybe a total of 150 miles. The steering felt strange at times but i only had the vehicle for 5 days before i left for work. There is no solution from jeep. I would really like for a specialest to inspect the vehicle to determine if it did in fact set my house on fire.

Rear view camera works only when vehicle is cold, usually only in the morning. I cant use this safety feature whenever I drive the car the rest of the day . I have been in situations driving the truck in off road conditions were the camera is a must to see where I am going, and have been in very dangerous situations getting too close to rocks or deep drops due to lack of rear visibility. And mirrors don't help in some of these situations, because the danger has been completely in the center of the rear of the truck, and out of mirror reach.

I took delivery of my 2021 Jeep Gladiator on 10/29/20. I brought the vehicle in on 12/29/22 for service (Webber Family Motor, Detroit Lakes, MN). The driver's door lock switch was inoperable. I could not lock, unlock the vehicle either with the FOB or with the key. This means that I was unable to lock my vehicle from the driver's side when leaving the vehicle AND I was unable to lock the vehicle using the switch on the driver's door panel (from the inside). This is a safety concern for a lone female. Webber Family Motor found Circuit G161 broken in the boot harness. They replaced the wire and retested. The vehicle passed. The charge out of pocket to me was $201.74. On 01/19/24, I again took the vehicle to Webber Family Motor for the same issue. They took the door panel off and found that "someone" had taped the boot harness. This someone was them in 2022. They want to charge $600 for replacement of the boot harness. My safety is at risk because I work nights and am unable to get into my vehicle and lock the door from inside. This issue has happened twice

The center high mounted tail light (CHMTL) has failed. It makes it a little harder to see the vehicle is braking. The fuses are fine. It is a very common failure on Jeep Gladiators. Many times people don't know it has failed. There are no warning lamps or indicators to tell you it has failed.
NHTSA #11717367
The 3rd brake light in the tailgate malfunctioned This is required to pass New York State safety inspection A Jeep dealer replaced the part No warning on the dashboard of this light failing
NHTSA #11718714
The third brake light, located on the tailgate of the 2021 Jeep Gladiator, has ceased to function due to a failure within the printed circuit board (PCB) inside the light housing. This issue has been confirmed by a third-party repair shop, which has noted that the PCB appears to be broken or damaged, rendering the brake light inoperable. Notably, the vehicle's instrument panel does not provide any notification or alert regarding the malfunction of the third brake light, which could lead to a significant safety risk. This failure impacts the vehicle's ability to properly signal braking and deceleration to other motorists, particularly from the rear. Given that the third brake light is a critical component for road safety, this issue poses a significant risk of rear-end collisions, especially under conditions where visibility is compromised. When the third brake light fails to illuminate this reduces the overall visibility of the vehicle’s braking signals, particularly in situations where the tailgate is obscured or when the vehicle is loaded. The lack of a functional third brake light increases the likelihood of a rear-end collision, putting both the driver and other road users at risk. The failure of the third brake light due to a malfunctioning PCB appears to be a common issue among 2021 Jeep Gladiators. The problem has been reported by multiple owners, and the root cause appears to be related to the design or manufacturing of the printed circuit board within the light assembly. The third brake light has been inspected by a third-party repair shop, which confirmed the malfunction of the PCB. However, despite the issue being identified, there has been no alert or warning displayed on the vehicle's instrument panel. There is no indication within the vehicle's diagnostic system that the third brake light is inoperative. Given the potential safety hazards and the recurring nature of this issue I respectfully request that the NHTSA conduct an investigation.

The third brake light on the Gladiator is a known issue. When it goes out, there is no warning on the dash or error code. The entire light has to be replaced (LED) vs just a bulb. This is a hazard as the third brake light can go out and no one will know until the vehicle is in an accident. Wasn't the third brake light mandatory equipment since 1985?

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the contact became aware that the passenger’s side headlamp was not illuminating. After a visual inspection of the headlamp assembly, the contact observed that the wires leading into the headlamp assembly were melted. The contact stated that two weeks later the failure occurred with the driver’s side headlamp. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the headlamp assembly. The contact was informed that the headlamp assemblies need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 42,000.

Vehicle only has 18000 mile, and is garaged. The third brake light has failed. In reviewing this on line, it appears to be a common problem. No reason for just a simple device to fail prematurely due a lack of durability testing that is available. This is a safety issue in a world of bad drivers out there.
NHTSA #11618080
The LED center high-mounted stop lamp, more commonly called the 3rd brake light, failed. A silent code was available to be read by only the dealership service; there were no visible warnings on the vehicle nor any owner online dashboards. In fact, the owner online dashboard had green across the board and clearly stated no issues were detected. The real issue here, and the reason for this submission, is that this LED should not have failed at less than three years and reviewing online many people have been having the same exact issue. Without any visible warnings to the driver, I have no idea how long it has been out. An investigation into a potential recall should be initiated as this is starting to sound like a manufacture defect that is affecting a legally required center high-mounted stop lamp. Minimally, there should be a software update to inform the driver of this error code and not have it be silent such that only a dealership service center is able to read it.

During show fall the snow gathers in the head lamp dishes causing them to fill and block out the light. This causes me to pull over and clear the head lamps so I can see about every mile or two. This is a known problem due to not having heat to melt the snow from the head light. Jeep knows this since there are companies out there selling heated head lamps. I was almost hit last week during the big snow fall we had in Western Washing ton Dec 2022. also in the mountains in CA. Where I lived. in 2021 in Tehachapi CA. This is a major safety hazard for driving and having to pull over to clean headlamps while driving on highways opening up personal safety out of the vehicle in inclement weather. Just purchased this vehicle from Anderson Nissan of Lake Havasu City, AZ with 4759 miles. After leaving the city and driving on [XXX] heading [XXX], I immediately encountered fairly serious speed wobbles at 70 mph after driving over the bridges for drainage under the highway. Immediately slowed to 60 mph to stop wobble. This occurred approximately 8 times on [XXX] after driving over these bridges or irregular pavement. Nearly home, I was involved in an extremely serious speed wobble at 70 - 75 mph in an area of [XXX] in [XXX]. A slight vibration occurred then an extremely violent speed wobble ensued. While driving on a highway around 70 MPH upon traveling on a bumpy portion of roadway or a transition from an overpass back to roadway the steering starts to Shimmy extremely bad. I was almost killed when there was no shoulder available In a construction zone on [XXX] in Florida and I had to stop in the lane of traffic and was almost rear ended by a semi tractor trailer. I’ve made a complaint about this before. The dealer previously changed the steering damper but unfortunately the new damper is not the fix to this safety issue. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Fishbone Offroad bed rack (an aftermarket accessory on my Jeep Gladiator) failed structurally, developing cracks at all four outside corners of the beam with rust at the welds. The rack is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The rack’s failure posed a collapse risk while supporting a 200-lb roof-top tent and a 50–60-lb 270° awning. A collapse during driving or camping could have caused the load to fall, potentially leading to a crash, injury, or damage to the vehicle or others on the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, as the rack was removed from use after the failure was discovered to prevent a collapse. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The manufacturer, Fishbone Offroad, was sent photos of the damage but has not physically inspected the rack. They offered to inspect it if I paid for shipping, which I declined. No police, insurance representatives, or others have inspected it. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps or messages, as this is an aftermarket accessory. The cracks were hidden under the load of the roof-top tent and only became visible after its removal in early 2025. Rust at the welds was the only prior symptom, noticed a few months earlier.

This vehicle is equipped with remote start as a factory option. I was checking things under the hood, with the keyfob in my pocket. The start button must have inadvertently been pressed. To my surprise, while I was poking around under the hood, the engine started. Luckily, I heard the fuel pump and other electronics power up and got clear of everything, but I was quite surprised to have the engine start while the hood was open. I thought there was supposed to be an interlock that would prevent this. I could have been seriously injured if my hands would have been near moving parts and I not noticed an imminent engine start. My Jeep has a manual transmission and Jeep realized there was an issue with the clutch pressure plate back in 2023 where the issue can possibly lead to a fire. Every time we call about getting the issue fixed all we ever get is excuses. I think almost a year is plenty of time to have come up with a fix for the issue. See video of incident here: [XXX] Additional video is here: [XXX] The incidents happened while driving on the interstate at approximately 70mph. When a normal expansion joint or bump was traversed, the steering wheel would suddenly oscillate continuously, with the degree of the oscillation growing more severe over time. The entire body of the vehicle shook violently. The only way to recover from the severe oscillation was to reduce speed substantially - generally to below 40 mph - or to encounter another bump to upset the oscillation. We took the Gladiator to a local Jeep dealership. They stated they replaced the steering damper and that the manufacturer had updated the part number (the failed damper was the old part number). However, we still feel a looseness in the suspension that we did not feel previously with this vehicle. When traversing bumps at speed, sometimes the oscillation can still be felt, but it is not continuous as shown in the videos. We suspect the steering damper may have been damaged to due another loose or failed component that is still in service on the vehicle. The vehicle is stock and has not been modified previously. While driving yesterday vehicle lost power steering and almost cause a crash. Upon talking to multiple shops and online researching we all came to a conclusion it was the can bus board (controller area network) shops stated this is a very know problem with jeeps. I feel as this is a safety factor for this. Now I am at the point in fixing it and trading in the vehicle due to my family and trying to be safe. Codes are saying lost of communication with can bus basically all the computers are not talking to each other.

Approximately two months ago while driving about 65 mph on the interstate the power steering failed, and reverted to manual steering. The vehicle became extremely difficult to turn. I was near an exit, and as I slowed to leave the interstate, at 30-35 mph the steering began to work normally. I did not have the issue investigated. Two days ago while going to work, and descending a mountain which had numerous sharp curves the power steering failed again. I was traveling around 40 mph, and the vehicle was extremely difficult to steer. As I reduced speed to about 25mph the steering resumed normal operation. I was making a 90 degree downhill turn when this event occurred. I almost departed the road on a steep drop off. Had my wife been driving I do not think she would have possessed enough strength to keep from going off the road. I had the vehicle checked, by a mechanic and there were no codes or anomalies detected. I am a certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanic, as well as an Aviation Safety Inspector. This issue with my Jeep is an accident waiting to happen. There are a significant number of complaints for this same issue. NHTSA needs to address this issue.

Bought this vehicle with 27,000 miles on it. While driving on the interstate with heavy traffic. (Doing Highway speeds) All the sudden the power plant shuts down. It happend at 27,500 miles and happened again at 37,000 miles. It has done it to me four times now. Twice with heavy semi trucks bearing down on me and my family. This was a very UNSAFE situation. The Fault on the screen comes up momentarily and states "Capture Throttle Body Fault." and all power is lost to the throttle. SERIOUS SAFTETY ISSUE. as loosing power on the interstate at 75 miles an hour. I believe JEEP the company should fix this issue as I know for a fact I am not the only individual experincing this problem! Please feel free to reach out to me if you need further information. There was not a crash, fire or injury due to the ability to get off the road and into the apron of the interstate. In a higher traffic location this could be catistrophic. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE talk this issue seriously as I am convinced this has caused others to wreak. Thanks and have a great day

Mopar recall Z96 posted October, 13th 2022 for high pressure fuel pump. My local dealership stated parts for replacement of the high pressure fuel pump did not become available until November of 2023. They inspected my vehicle November 21st, 2023 and determined the high pressure fuel pump was to be replaced under mopar recall Z96. Dealership ordered parts at that time. On to March 4th, 2024. I reach out to local dealerships service and parts departments. Not all parts had been received and there was no understanding of when the rest of the necessary parts would arrive. May 7th, 2024. It is now nearly 1 year and 7 months since this recall was released and nearing 6 months since my local dealership stated they ordered parts to replace the fuel pump. My local dealership continues to have no understanding or intention of securing the remaining parts necessary to complete this recall. This amount of time is unreasonable for a part that if it fails will cause loss of engine power and may cause a fatal crash.

I was driving on a highway and the sun visor suddenly fell down but was still suspended by a wire and therefore obstructed my view. Nearly caused an accident. The arm that supports the sun visor seems to have dislodged from its housing. A quick search revealed this is such a common problem, there are many aftermarket parts sold to fix this problem. My vehicle is outside warranty, but several Jeep forum posts indicate this issue was not covered by Jeep’s warranty. The Jeep dealer is charging $382 to fix what should be a recall.

The defroster only blows out of the center of the windshield. So the drivers side and passenger sides of the windshield do not clear up at all. This causes me to not being able to safely see where I am driving when my windshield is foggy or covered with snow and ice. This is not the only Jeep Gladiator or Wrangler JL/JLU that is affected. People are complaining all over forums on the internet and to their local dealerships. This issue needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt or killed because you can’t safely see where you are driving or what’s in front of your vehicle or out the side windows since they don’t clear up either like they are supposed to do. I just bought this vehicle on the 28th of August, it only has 12600 miles on it so it is basically brand new and it should not have this issue at all. The 12th was the first time I’ve had to use my defrost in my vehicle and that’s how I found out it didn’t work properly. Having to take your child to school is not a good time to find out you can’t safely drive because you can’t see without constantly using a towel to clean the windshield off.

I turned on my defroster and a 8 inch long crack happens from the middle bottom of the windshield. This is the second time in a year this has happened. There are numerous examples online of this happening. I live in Florida so it’s not because of the extreme temperature changes. It was only 50 deg F.

The contact owned a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a corner, another vehicle was speeding and crashed into the front driver's side quarter panel. The impact pushed the vehicle forward, causing the front driver's wheel to swipe a telephone pole before landing on a residential lawn. The other vehicle then crashed into a telephone pole. The front driver's side air bag deployed, but there was a hole in the side air bag and the driver's air bag failed to fully deploy. Additionally, a burning odor was detected after the air bags deployed. The police and fire departments arrived on the scene, and a police report was filed. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact had surgery on her left arm from wrist to elbow, which required four titanium plates. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,250.

Death wobble, while traveling down any road that has a bump or is not smooth as glass I get the front end wobble, the only way to stop it is to slow down, have had a couple near miss accidents because of this. This jeep is all original, second time in shop was told all original parts are fine no wear no loose parts. They are putting a steering damper on it. Was told by the dealership where it was purchased “it’s a jeep thing”. Because of the wobble had to replace tires because of uneven wear, had tires rebalanced multiple times trying to fix issue, now another fix to see if it works.

Several times a day when I drive over un-even pavement the front end, wheels, & steering wheel start violently shaking and become uncontrollable to the point other vehicles move out of the way. It will only stop when speed is lowered low 5 mph. This has happened between 25-40 mph. Too afraid to drive at highway speeds. This vehicle is a 2021 with only 12,800 miles on it. Description of the Safety Issue I am submitting this complaint to report a serious seat belt safety incident involving entrapment and inability to self‑release, which required emergency intervention. While parked, my daughter as a passenger in my Jeep Gladiator, became tangled in the seat belt in such a way that she was physically unable to release herself or exit the vehicle. Despite multiple attempts, the seat belt could not be disengaged, and the situation escalated to the point where I had to cut the seat belt to free her. This was not caused by a crash, sudden stop, or misuse. The seat belt’s configuration, retraction behavior, or release mechanism appeared to contribute to the entrapment and prevented normal occupant egress. Why This Is a Safety Concern Seat belts are intended to protect occupants and allow safe release when needed. In this incident, the seat belt instead: -Entrapped a child occupant -Prevented self‑release -Created a situation where cutting the belt was the only way to avoid further harm Had this occurred during an emergency (fire, water submersion, post‑collision scenario), the inability to quickly exit the vehicle could have resulted in serious injury or worse. Outcome of the Incident -No collision occurred. -No vehicle warning lights or alerts were present. -The seat belt was rendered unusable only because it had to be cut as an emergency safety measure. -The incident caused significant distress and created an immediate safety hazard. Request for Review I am requesting that NHTSA: -Review this incident as a potential seat belt design or functional defect -Consider whether similar incidents may be occurring but underreported -Evaluate whether this issue warrants further investigation, service bulletin, or recall activity Seat belts should never place occupants—especially children—into situations where escape is difficult or impossible.

Two of the same faults occurred within the same month of each other. The first: while driving home from work on the highway, while heavily raining, without warning every alarm light possible engaged, windshield wipers went full speed, vehicle would not shift, and my steering locked up (not to be confused with lost power steering). After about a mile I was able to encourage the Jeep off the side of the highway. While waiting for my tow, with the E Brake set and in Park, the Jeep kept trying to crawl forward on its own. I was unable to turn the vehicle off as it would not respond, in addition to an alarm warning saying not to turn off the Jeep. The second occurrence was in the parking garage at work; I pulled through the parking stall, put the Jeep in reverse to back up and the same fault took place. No steering, wipers on full speed, every alarm on the dash was engaged. Thankfully I was not a highway speed. I was able to turn off the Jeep this time after about 5 minutes of attempting to.

I am writing regarding my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave, which recently suffered engine damage due to a faulty head gasket. I understand the vehicle is approximately 5,000 miles over the 60,000-mile warranty; however, I believe this issue should not be my financial responsibility given the circumstances. At around 60,000 miles, I brought my Jeep in for a full service and inspection to ensure it was in top condition. I was informed at that time that everything looked fine and that there were no issues to address. Since then, I’ve continued to maintain the vehicle properly and drive it with care. The sudden head gasket failure, which ultimately led to engine damage, came as a complete surprise. This situation has been extremely difficult — not only because of the unexpected cost, but also because this Jeep was meant to be my long-term vehicle. My family and I have been loyal Mopar customers for years, and I’ve always trusted in the quality and reliability of your vehicles and service network. Given that I sought professional service and maintenance through authorized channels, and that no issues were identified at the time, I kindly request that Mopar consider a goodwill repair or assistance. I don’t believe it’s fair to be held financially responsible for a mechanical failure that likely existed but went undetected during a recent inspection. I’m grateful that nothing happened to me on the road, as I was unaware of the developing problem under the hood. I truly hope Mopar can stand behind its reputation for integrity, safety, and customer care by helping me through this situation. Thank you for your time, understanding, and continued support. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Without any warning and after about 7 minutes of driving, Jeep turned off while driving at about 40 mph. There were no dash lights or warnings and the Jeep has never had an issue or any other symptom previously. Would not start and had to be towed. 8 hours later it was still in a crank no start condition. Both batteries were fully charged so not a battery issue. I'm a long time Jeep owner, VP of the Middle Peninsula Jeep Association LLC and fairly well versed in Jeep mechanics. I only say that to let you know that I have a lot of experience with Jeeps, was able to exclude certain causes and have not encountered thisnwith any of my previous Jeeps. Jeep is in show condition and meticulously cared for. The day after vehicle shut off, all dash lights and windows also stopped working so issue also caused batteries to fully drain. Dealership says it is needs a new PDC. I strongly suspect this is due to manufacturer defect related to PCM and some of manufacturing defects associated with COVID-era manufacturing issues. Uncertain if it could also be related to other open recall. Vehicle has less than 50K on it. It really doesn't feel right that just a large component would go out on such a new Jeep and definitely isn't in accordance with the quality I've come to know and expect when owning other Jeeps. Would appreciate anything you can do to assist. On another note, about half of the Gladiators I see have the 3rd brake light out (mine included). Any idea what the issue could be with that as I also have to get that replaced, too. Many thanks!

As I was driving, I reached out over the dashboard and accidentally lightly bumped the front windshield with my hand. Light enough that my middle knuckle barely tapped the glass, and the windshield spider cracked completely top to bottom, left to right, and every other angle. The force can be compared to wiping or cleaning your dashboard and bumping your finger tips into the glass. The windshield is broken all the way through. Im reporting this because Im fairly certain windshields are supposed to hold up to more than someone's knuckle lightly bumping them. The windshield did not have any damage prior to this moment and had just been to the dealership for standard maintenance confirming no damage to the windshield prior to this event. Visibility became immediately obscured for me as the driver, the windshield flexed and cracked even more as we drove to a safe location clearly indicating it was no longer safe for us to be in the vehicle. No warnings came up. The incident is fresh for us, but many Jeep Gladiator owners experience windshields breaking incredibly easily with extreme breaks for minimal impacts.

Hi - So my 2021 Jeep gladiator has 2 batteries. The battery that controls the auto start-stop system failed (while driving). I was at a light on a busy road and the auto stop/start kicked in at a light but because of the failed second battery with no warning, my Jeep died would not start backup and I was unable to even get it into neutral. The center brake light went out on my Jeep around 30000 miles. I don’t know when it went out, but it’s an obvious safety concern and common problem with Jeep Gladiator’s. My vehicle is outside warranty of warranty, but a search of a Jeep forum reveals the dealers covered some folks under warranty but not others. My dealer wants $330 to fix what is obviously a defective part of a key safety feature (LED lights are typically rated for 50,000 hours or 6 years of constant illumination).

I was driving my 2021 Jeep Gladiator and stopped at a red light at a busy intersection. When the light changed to green, I removed my foot from the brake and attempted to go through the intersection. Instead of moving forward the truck engine turned off and would not restart. As this was a busy intersection this was an extremely dangerous situation for both myself and other motorists. A local police officer assisted me in pushing the truck out of the intersection. The truck then had to be towed to a Jeep dealership. After an initial diagnosis at the dealership the issue was not readily apparent, and the dealership could not get the truck to start. After multiple diagnosis attempts the dealership believes the issue is a faulty Radio Frequency Hub Module, Fuse, Relay, and Auxiliary Battery. The truck is still at the dealership awaiting the parts so it is not clear if this will correct the truck turning itself off. Also, there were no warning signs or indicator lights on when this occurred. One final note, this model truck is known to have an issue with a leaking rear window. My rear window did leak and was replaced under warranty. I have learned that the Radio Frequency Hub Module is located in the rear wall of this truck below the rear window.

Without having the fob work, I am unable to unlock my doors or start the engine. Thankfully, learnng my fobs were not connecting occured while in my garage at my home. However, if this occured while away from home, or at night, I would have been stranded with no access to drive the vehicle. This vehicle has a repeating electronic problem involving the warning lights and function of abs, traction control, four-wheel drive system, forward collision warning, and both adaptive and normal cruise control. When the steering wheel is turned slightly right, like when navigating a highway curve, those warnings illuminate and the vehicle disables cruise control. It also has a lack of power due to what seems to be the traction control system activating. Also, the brake system has a shutter in the pedal and has reduced effectiveness for a few moments until the ABS and traction control systems stop function. I have taken the vehicle into a dealer, Larry H Miller CDJR in West Bountiful, Utah when it started to show this problem as I was leaving Portland. They replaced the front left ABS wheel speed sensor. This did not rectify the problem. I then took it to Gene's Chrysler in Fairbanks, Alaska upon my return home. That shop failed to warranty the repair, and charged additional diagnosis fees on top of correcting the Z96 high pressure fuel pump recall. They advised replacing the clock spring in the steering wheel that provides electrical connection to the buttons and is integrated in all of those safety systems. Prior Jeep models have had a consistent problem with the clock spring failing and a recall was issued due to affecting airbag deployment from the steering wheel. I am concerned that this clock spring related issue may lead to reduced braking effectiveness, loss of power at speed to react to traffic, and failure to deploy the airbag in an accident. The dealerships will not warranty this repair.

The vehicle would not turn over, but the battery came on. The vehicle wouldn’t allow me to turn off the battery and stayed in the position while I waited for the tow truck. By the time the vehicle made it to the dealership they refused to do a diagnostic and attempted to charge me for battery replacement even though it was due to a car malfunction. While the care was glitching the dash displayed messages about the stability control module and transmission were out and malfunctioning. If I were to be driving, the vehicle would have shut down while I was driving.

My 2021 Jeep Gladiator received the 19A Clutch Recall in late June 2024. The recall was issued due to clutch pressure plates disintegrating, blowing a hole in the transmission housing, and causing vehicle fires. Upon return, my vehicle was unable to drive smoothly. After further investigation, I determined that if the clutch and throttle were operated concurrently, the engine would shut off. The engine would shut off anywhere between 1 MPH and highway speed causing issues with operating hydraulically assisted systems (power brakes and power steering). In practice, this led to the engine shutting off between most gear shifts causing a jerky driving condition due to the engine needing to clutch start itself. I did not test how well the steering or brakes worked while the engine was shut off due to safety concerns. While pulling into my driveway, I momentarily lost control of the vehicle when the engine died while traveling at low speed and with the steering wheel turned. I lost power steering and was unable to correct the direction in travel before driving onto my lawn. I returned the vehicle to the dealership and replicated the issue for them. They confirmed the issue was present. The issue was determined to be a faulty ECU flash causing the issue. A revised flash was made available to dealerships 7/12/24 and installed in my vehicle 7/15/24. Component that Failed: Faulty ECU flash Safety: The vehicle's engine would shut off while moving Reproduced by Dealership: Yes Inspected by Manufacturer: No Warning lights or messages: No Additional Info: I have been in contact with other owners with the same issue. This faulty ECU flash seems to only have had this effect on 2021 models. The following is personal input. I hope the irony is not lost on you all that a safety recall fix caused an arguably more pronounced and repeatable safety problem. Additionally, I notified Jeep Cares that this could kill or injure someone and they told me to send Chrysler a letter.

There is an active parts recall for some Gladiators, Recall 26A, for the right rear axle shaft. This part on my vehicle has been failing for over 6 months. The ABS system, Traction Control, and 4WD system have active fault codes, preventing these systems from working as intended. In the last month, this problem has become unsafe due to 3 separate incidents where the traction control has triggered during normal driving conditions, causing the vehicle to become inoperable. In each of these incidents, I was travelling in a straight line, on dry roads, when the traction control system activated, preventing all acceleration to occur. In the first occurrence I was in a tunnel, and unable to pull over as there was no shoulder. This was driving in a straight line, accelerating up to about 15 mph before the traction control kicked in and disabled the drive train. Traffic was able to safely pass me while I coasted through the tunnel with my hazards on. Turning the vehicle off, then back on was the only way to cure this condition. The next 2 times were both at unprotected stop signs, meaning cross traffic did not have a stop sign. When I pulled out into the middle of the road, the traction control activated, causing the vehicle to lose forward momentum and power. One of these incidents, traffic did have to slow and alter course to account for my vehicles failure in the road. During the 6 months of the axle going out, the ABS system triggers at intermittent times during normal driving/braking conditions. I have tried working with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and with Chrysler directly. Both parties deflect responsibility to the other, stating there is no way to help escalate these problems because they are a recall item. I have been directed to wait for parts and to continue driving the vehicle, despite it seeming like a safety risk.

This Jeep has the death wobble. When you’re going 70+ miles an hour and hit a bump. It violently shakes and you have to slow down to 55 quickly for it to stop. This has been an ongoing issue and I have even put a new set of tires on and it’s continued. This is a known issue but there’s not been a recall. I had a previous 2012 Jeep and it did the death wobble on that as well.

Each time I drive my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel over 55-60mph, I experience the 'death wobble' and i have to brake /slow down to under 50mph before it will stop. This is really dangerous on the Atlanta highways where people are driving far in excess of 60mph and tend to tailgate & change lanes quickly. When I first bought the truck, I didn't experience this but in the past year, it has been happening pretty much every time I drive on the highway (which I avoid now). The most recent time was the WORST, which is prompting this complaint.

While driving multiple warnings appears on the dash including bus communication, airbag, transmission communication, and abs. The vehicles engine began to randomly change rpm. The transmission began to shift speratically and was unable to maintain speed. The vehicle would not allow me to turn on hazard lights to warn surrounding motorists. Similar warnings appeared on the dash once before and the vehicle would not start and left me stranded. When taken in for service for the no start issue, the dealer performed no repairs for this issue and stored P codes were cleared prior to the vehicle being returned to me. I am currently awaiting a service appointment for the issue that happened while driving.

On February 25, 2023, while slowing down as I approached an intersection controlled by a red signal light and applied my brakes which was slowing me down. My foot never moved off the brake pedal as I slowed down. Suddenly, the Jeep Gladiator "accelerated/surged" forward and stated gaining speed. Although I was applying constant pressure on the brake pedal, the vehicle never slowed down or stopped because after traveling 200-300 feet and striking two signal light poles and a communications box, the vehicle came to a stop. This was the third incidence of Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA). Tshe vehicle is available for inspection and under the supervision of Safeco Insurance. In this case, injuries were limited to a passenger broken toe and the driver being bruised. Similar accidents involving striking stationary poles resulted in death but we were spared that outcome. The first instance of SUA occurred on a street near my home and while applying constant pressure on the brake pedal, the vehicle finally skidded to a stop after traveling approximately 200 feet. The second instance of SUA occurred while pulling into a parking lot, and again, after applying constant pressure on the brake pedal, the vehicle came to a stop after traveling approximately 300 feet. After the first and second instances, I took the vehicle into the dealership, but they could not find anything wrong. The police report blamed an electrical/mechanical failure. No warning lights or messages were noted.

The wire harness for the doors, which are designed to be removed easily, doesn't function properly causing pins to become bent when being reinsert. This causes several systems to malfunction and alert improperly. The blind Spot assist and cross rear warning is affected. This a common and known problem amongst Jeep owners who removed their doors.
