Had my car parked in my house garage. Drove out of garage to go to work. While waiting on garage to close, heard an explosion and realized my back windshield shattered. When I got out to inspect and take pictures, it shattered even more. Took to dealership. Waiting to hear back from Honda corporate. Tired of issues with this car.

Drove to work on Friday morning 12/12/25. Parked my car in my work parking lot. At 5pm when I returned to my car, when I entered my car and closed the door, I heard a shattering noise, I looked around and in my rearview mirror I saw a hole right through the middle of my rear window. I exited my car and when I closed the door, the rest of the window finished shattering and fell in. I found out there was a soft recall regarding the rear window and the adhesive used. I went to the Yonkers service center on 50 Yonkers Ave here in Westchester County on Saturday 12/13/25,spoke with a rep who was very courteous, explained the recall I found on-line regarding rear window recall and set up an appointment for that Monday 12/15/25. Dropped off car to service center, received a call the next day from the rep saying they cannot do anything about it because the Technician found nothing wrong. I explained it was a manufacturers defect and it should be covered. Then called the dealer and I explained the situation, called me back and gave me the same explanation. I then reached out to the corporate offices and they said I would have to pay out of pocket. I find this very unacceptable.

The rear window glass suddenly broke with a huge sound. The glass brokes to pieces completely. No warning light was activated. It happened 10 minutes ago. I haven't reported to my insurance or dealer. I used defrost function. Before this accident happened, I smelled a burning flavor a little. Also, the range dropped almost 10 miles over a 2 mile distance. I am not sure if those phenomena relate or not.

The back rearview windshield shattered. I got into my parked car in the morning, turned it on and heard a pop sound. I looked back and saw a hole in the windshield, the glass fell inside the truck in pieces. I looked around to see if something dropped to crack it, but there was nothing. The pieces of the windshield kept falling in the trunk and the hole got bigger as time went on.

The rear windshield exploded while driving. I briefly turned on our defrosters and then the air before that. It is available for inspection upon request. Our safety was put at risk as the glass exploded into the car. The problem is one of the first things that pops up if you search honda hrv windshield explode. My vehicle was last inspected on June 14,2025. There were no warning signs.

I was driving my [XXX] son to daycare and my back window of the hatch shattered. I was completely shocked and had no idea what happened, so I googled to see if there have been issues with my specific car and found the following: "The rear windows of some 2023 Honda HR-Vs are shattering due to a manufacturing defect with the rear defroster. Honda is replacing the windows through a voluntary product update campaign, but has not issued a safety recall. Honda says the problem is due to a manufacturing defect that allows the sealer used to secure the rear glass on some HR-Vs to come in contact with the defroster’s heating elements. Over time, this weakens the glass as the defroster creates a “hot spot.” But the automaker advises owners to continue using the rear defroster as needed." This is a major issue to mine and my sons risk. My son was in his car seat facing the window as it shattered. There was glass everywhere. I called Honda at Honda Costa Mesa in Costa Mesa, CA and they said that my VIN does not have that recall and that I could come in "to receive a quote for the repair" and that it typically takes 2-3 weeks for the window to come in and they will not provide a rental car. They were extremely unhappy and not sympathetic to the situation. I called my insurance (Geico) and filed a claim for Safelite to make the repair. While driving on the highway, the rear windshield shattered with no warning. There was no lights, no sound, no crack, nothing that would indicate a problem. The car has been in use for 2 years with no problems. Once the car had been turned on, the rear defroster was turned on for about 3 minutes. Once the window was clear, it was turned off and about 10 minutes later, it shattered. No injuries but it was startling and could have caused additional accidents on the road, especially a highway that has such high traffic as this one. For once, it's a good thing that traffic was going so slow at 7am so there was more control to stop any potential collisions. It has been taken to the dealership for an inspection and to replace the window. They said that it has happened to several people, they have seen it at least 10 times in our area. I've always looked out for my car and take it to the dealership for oil changes or any recalls in a timely manner and never heard of this beforehand. Thankfully, no one else was in the car with me. But this should be more well known if it's such a common problem.

I was driving on the highway and heard a thump at the back of my car. My rear window had spiderwebbed, with no warning and nothing hitting it. I had turned on my rear defrost shortly before that. By the time I got where I was headed, almost my entire price of glass had fallen into ky car, in tiny pieces.

I bought a 2023 Honda HR-V on Monday, 9/2/2024. and then on Wednesday, 9/4/2024, while driving to work my read windshield shatters out of nowhere. The glass remained in tact while I continued to drive and then completely shatter when I opened my car door. It sounded like an explosion and it startled me. I called the dealer that sold me the car and he proceeded to tell me that this is a known issue specific to 2023 model of HR-V and manufacture error caused when the defroster it causes the glass to shatter. He added the issue can be fixed by simply replacing the window. I did not know this was an issue and it was not disclosed during the car purchase. I am so disappointed in Honda and even more disappointed to learn there is not an active recall to address this issue. Now there is glass all over my trunk space and I having to figure out how to get this fixed with the dealer.

My car is less than 1 year old and the back windshield shattered out of nowhere one day while parked. Honda refuses to reimburse us since we already had it replaced by an outside company.

I was driving in light rain and had used the rear defroster. As I neared my home I heard a very loud noise that was very startling. Fortunately i was slowing down to make the turn into my cul-de-sac. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw that my rear windshield had shattered. As soon as I closed my car door all of the shattered glass fell into the rear cargo area.

While driving my vehicle going 55mph with the rear defrost on due to rainstorm, I noticed a strange smell like burning plastic but no warning lights were on. A few seconds later there was a very loud sound and I thought something large had smashed through the rear windshield so I ducked. It was terrifying and I almost drove off the road; luckily it didn't cause an accident but it could have. I pulled over and saw that the rear windshield had shattered; it was held mostly in place by the tempered glass but pieces had come off all around the edges and gone inside the vehicle and onto the road. I drove it home fearful of shards of glass falling behind me and endangering other drivers. The next morning I called my dealership who claimed they didn't know of this issue; when I told them my research found that it's been reported by many 2023 Honda HRV owners and that there's a problem with the rear defrost causing this, they were not helpful. I had the windshield replaced by Safelite the next day but am worried about my safety when I need to use the rear defrost again as this issue could happen again if not fixed.

My rear windshield randomly shattered while it was parked in the sun in San Diego. It happened on a military base and nothing was stolen so I’m sure it wasn’t crime related.

My Honda HRV 2023 rear window shattered itself without impact while driving on the highway I-94 on Saturday 6/9/2024 evening with heavy rain. Defroster was used and kids are in the rear seat. The spontaneous shattering was so loud that caused a sudden panic but very luckily with my long years of driving experience, I was able to maintain the control of the vehicle. Kids are shocked and were afraid until we got home. Called the dealership and the service department has no knowledge about the rear window defect cases. Waiting for the manager to call back.
NHTSA #11593359
My rear window randomly shattered. Car is on in park, pulled over in a parking lot as it was flooding outside. The rain stopped and then boom, the window shattered completely. Nothing hit the car or the window, nothing fell on the car, and the car wasn’t moving when this happened. I’ve seen other reports of this happening and I’m pretty concerned to drive the car around.
NHTSA #11592266
My back glass shattered while driving to work. Nothing struck it, it just exploded and was in a million pieces held together by the tint on the back window or so it seemed. I did call the state highway patrol but they said since it wasn’t an accident they couldn’t do a report. I thought at first it was a gun shot it was so loud when it popped. Called insurance, they referred to Safelite for repair. Upon googling it I saw it was an ongoing issue and thought I should file a report.

While driving my 2023 HRV I had the defroster on as it was raining and hard to see. I had turned it off when pulling up to my house and my back window immediately shattered causing a big boom which I thought was something falling over. Once in the park, I noticed the window falling through into my trunk.

Upon opening the driver's side door and getting into the vehicle I heard glass tinkling and turned around to see where it was coming from. I noticed that the rear hatch glass was shattered. Looking closer it appeared that the glass broke in multiple places as there were two large holes and then it also shattered around the edges of the glass. I called my local Honda dealer as well as Honda Customer Service but they told me there hasn't been a recall for the rear glass and that the vehicle would have to be inspected for it to be covered under the warranty. I ended up just getting it fixed with a local auto glass shop since I needed to be able to drive it ASAP. There were no cracks or chips in the glass beforehand and I had not heard rattling or cracking while driving it the last time. We also couldn't find any rocks or anything in or around the car and there were no signs that it could have been a break in. The car alarm never went off and I never heard or saw anybody on the property. I've heard about a rear defroster issue that causes hot spots and the glass to weaken over time. I'm assuming that since I park in direct sunlight and the weather has been hotter lately the change in temperature throughout the day and the direct sunlight finally caused it to shatter. Thankfully nobody was in the car when the glass shattered and I wasn't driving at the time. Cleaning up the broken shards of glass was not fun, as glass had fallen into the grass around my car and tiny slivers were still in the interior of the vehicle that the shop vacuum couldn't pick up.

I pulled my car into my driveway on April 22, 2024 and got out of the car to assist my husband with his walker. We heard a big BANG at the back of the car. When we walked behind the car we found that the rear window had completely shattered. It had been raining and we had the reat window defogger running in the car. If this had happened while the car was moving it could have caused an accident with all of the glass falling out onto the road and endangering the cars behind me. I have called Safelite to come to my house to replace the glass as I don't feel safe driving the car like this.

While driving, with my rear defrost on, my rear window shattered. It was loud, and very scary. I’m glad my kids weren’t in the backseat. Brought it straight to my local Honda dealership where my vehicle was purchased and was surprised to hear they knew of the issue but no recall had been issued.

Turned on car to warm up and set my windshields to defrost. 15 minutes later when after waiting for car to warm up I turn off the defrosters because I smell something warm/hot. 5 minutes later my rear windshield pops and shatters. All while parked, checked for any sort of debris and none to be found.

My rear window exploded while parked on the garage. I had the rear defroster on for only a few minutes. There was a loud bang that startled me and left me in shock unknowing what it could be. There was absolutely no warning of any kind. I took my vehicle into my local dealer where I bought the car. Still awaiting an answer. I saw online this has happened to many people with this same year and make.
NHTSA #11577463
The rear window shattered on March 8, 2024. The defroster had been used briefly to clear fog. It was parked and when I returned to the car later, the window was shattered. There was a hole in part of it where it had broken with glass on the inside and some shards on the outside on the ground. It was is also broken around the edges where it would be sealed to the rest of the car. I had to drive home in the rain for approximately 40 minutes with glass continuing to break with any minimal and normal bumps from driving on the road. Had anything happened, like a wreck, while we were driving, this defect likely would have affected our safety in addition to simply having glass falling at random. Because we initially thought the car might have been broken into, the police were called and did inspect it. Nothing was stolen and the hole was not big enough for anyone to get into the vehicle. I found this has been a known issue with the HR-V after having it checked on. When I called the dealership this morning (3/9/2024) they stated they didn’t know anything about this issue and did not have any information on it. They gave me Honda’s customer service number, which I called, but since it’s Saturday, no one was there to answer. There was no warning or any symptoms prior to this happening. It’s like it spontaneously shattered.

On 5/232026 .. there was a severe thunderstorm . No hail . No signs of cracked window prior or as I approached my Honda 2023 HRV . I got in car and noticed windshield were foggy so I turned on both defroster. 10 mins later I heard a loud “boom “ in the back of my car.. I was starteled and immediately turned around and noticed the rear windshield was shattered and had a circular shaped broken glass hole. I never rolled anything on the street and no none was in sight .. I approached my home and parked the car and immediately checked the back to see if a rock or some sort was in the trunk however there was no evidence of that . Researching I notice many others have experienced this random spontaneous shatttering related to manufacturing error of window/defroster glue on defroster coiling . This was a huge danger for anyone in the back including myself the driver .. I’m very upset that Honda has not set a full recall on this other customers . I could have or another person sustained a serious injury. Now I’m waiting to get this repair which is a huge inconvience because all weekend it has stormed and having a garbage bag as a cover is so embarrassing ., I’m very displeased with Honda right now .

I had just arrived home from a short 2 mile drive and was sitting in my car for a few minutes with the vehicle running when the rear glass suddenly shattered. Confused and startled, I got out of the car to inspect what happened and noticed the the entire glass was shattered and left and right edges broken more than the rest. While taking photos, the middle of the glass caved in. This is a known issue, and the manufacturer issued a recall regarding this. The rear windshield was replaced last December by the dealer.

At around 7am Sunday morning, I turned on the ignition and clicked on the defogger because there was condensation on the front and back windshields. I drove away, traveling through quiet residential neighborhoods. Not many people were around. About five minutes later, I heard a crashing sound. I looked up and saw the rear window had shattered. I drove to where I was going--it was a minute away. I got out the car. The entire window was in tiny pieces, with shards of glass falling off.

I turned on my rear defrost and headed to work. About 15 minutes into my drive, my rear windshield exploded. I thought someone shot it out or threw a rock at it. It scared me a lot causing me to startle while driving. At a stop light I looked a the rear windshield and asked the person behind me if anything hit my car. She didn't see anything hit my car. What I saw was a baseball size hole. As I drove, more of the glass fell out with only a small amount left around the edges by the time I got to work.

We bought this 2023 HRV sport on [XXX] 2024, from the dealer St Louis Honda -Dave Mungenast. It has just under 6,000 miles on it. On Monday [XXX] I was driving on a road, non highway. Driving about 20-25 mph and the rear hatch window shattered. We were not rear ended and nothing was thrown at us. We had a baby sitting rear facing in the back seat. That window could have shattered and blown all over the baby and other passenger in the rear seat causing serious injury. I drove the car to the dealer since we had the car less than 48 hours. We were given a loaner car. On Tuesday, [XXX] I received a call from Matt at the shop dealership. We were told that the back window was on back order and they did not know when they would get one. I’m very concerned that this could’ve caused serious injury to the baby that was in the backseat. And in researching this window I’m finding out that this is a common problem with the HRV. When will this problem go on recall? I bought a Honda because of the safety and reliability that comes with it. Less than 48 hours of having this new car, the back window shattered. The rear window shattered while I was in the doctors office. The Honda dealership here replaced the window from a local glass installer because the Honda window is on backorder. They will replace the glass when they receive the Honda window. The rear window defroster has a defect that causes the window to shatter. I'm just glad I wasn't driving when it happened or I could have wrecked. I haven't been charged anything for the window. There wasn't any indication that there was a problem.

On [XXX] at about [XXX] , I was sitting in the driver seat of my 2023 HR-V and the rear windshield exploded and shattered. I was stunned due to the loud noise, much like a gun being fired near my ears and head. After turning head to look to see what caused this event, I did not see any other persons or vehicles near my vehicle. I contacted Honda for road side assistance since the car had less than 36,000 miles. The car has about 33-34000 miles. Honda arranged for vehicle to be towed to Baierl Honda in Wexford PA. I was forced to rent a car to return home, since I was about 70 miles from home. On Monday, [XXX], John from Honda service called me to say Honda has no availability for a loaner vehicle and he needed a few days to look into damage to rear windshield. My auto insurance rep state that I could file a claim to self pay for windshield replacement and to cover auto rental for 10 days. Insurance rep spoke with John of Honda service to determine no of days to cover rental. Auto insurance rep stated GEICO will not pay for Baierl Honda to repair rear windshield and will only pay Safelite glass repair. John stated he needed a few days to investigate damage to vehicle. It is [XXX], and I don’t know if Honda will repair rear windshield. This is a known safety issue with Honda and Acura, windshields and auto glass explodes and shatters. Rear windshield shattered due to windshield defroster and have not received a recall notice. Safety of driver and other can be at risk, as once shattered, cannot drive at normal speed affecting others nearby and, depending on wind speed, glass continuously falls off and can even fly forward to passengers until it's been replaced. Honda is aware of this issue, but has yet to issue a recall. The vehicle has not been addressed by anyone other than Auto Glass Now, who installed new rear windshield. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptom of the issue prior to the shatter. No police report was submitted, as no vehicles or objects were obstructed at the time the event occurred. I was simply able to pull over.

The rear windshield spontaneously shattered. It was in the late evening and I had put on the rear defogger. It made a loud sound. My infant daughter and toddler son were in the backseat when it happened. I contacted American Honda (Corporate) and reported it as I read online that hundreds of HR-Vs are having this issue due to the rear defogger. The Honda dealer inspected it and they ordered the part and will be replacing it. We had to pay for a rental car in the meantime, which I didn't feel I should have to pay for since it's a car defect. But corporate said it should be covered under my warranty (I lease the car). There were no warning messages or anything to know this was going to happen. This sounds like the beginning of a recall that needs to be put on HR-Vs immediately.

I was driving home march 15th at 8:23 pm and turned off the rear defroster and then the back glass exploded, sounded like a m80 going off in the car, took car to my honda dealer and was told no glass is covered by the warranty, the service manager inspected the glass on monday and called me and said that honda will do a one time goodwill claim, they ordered the glass, the next day they called me again and told me the back glass is back ordered till May but they could have an after market glass install the next day, so i had them install the aftermarket glass, i mean who can wait 6 weeks for a glass, I need the car. Im not happy that they put a none original glass in a new car

I went out to my parked 2023 Honda HRV Sport and saw a hole in the rear hatch glass. It completely shattered when I touched the corner. My local Honda dealer said they've never heard of this issue and never received any service bulletins about this issue which I found online and read to them. Honda customer service said there is an open recall and to take it to the dealer and it should be covered under the warranty.

[XXX] about [XXX] Mountain time, my wife was driving the vehicle back to Pueblo, Colorado from Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was a freezing drizzle and to help deal with visibility she turned on the defroster for the rear hatch window. About 15 minutes afterwards she heard a massive "boom" and looking in the rear view mirror it looked like that rear hatch window was completely cracked across the whole window. Although the situation was frightening, she was able to get home. Looking online it was clear that this situation has already been experienced by a large number of people. We reported the problem to Honda who opened a case, and directed us to a local dealer. The local dealer was rude, said that some object must have impacted the glass. We are trying to take the vehicle to a different dealer tomorrow. When I looked at the glass, there was a large section missing in the center, and there were numerous "shards" broken off along the perimeter of the glass that were independent of the large hole in the middle. The car was parked in the garage and the back windshield exploded for no reason. The garage is insulated and was around 60 degrees. No impact had occurred and no prior damage. The car is only a year old. There are other reports of similar incidents with the back window. No warning just exploded out of no where. I am having to replace it out of pocket.

rear window windshield or glass (at the trunk or above the license plate) of my 2023 Honda HRV EX-L shattered and exploded while parked. There was no impact or an object hitting it. It just exploded. I strongly believe it’s a manufacturing defect which needs a recall or warranty coverage.

Sticky steering wheel movement on high speeds and slight turns on road. When the steering wheel is resting in center. And time comes to turn it slightly. The steering wheel feels very resistive. Once overcome the resistance, the steering wheel is soft to turn again. This made my car go out of lane once and once corrected made it over correct. Dangerous situation.

There are issues with the steering. While driving on highways the steering becomes a little sticky and jerks the vehicle. This also happens on city streets just not as bad.

So my 2023 Honda HR-V is experiencing jerky steering. Today, it jerked so hard as I was turning a curve & it almost ran me into a concrete wall.
NHTSA #11591843
I purchased the Honda HRV Sport in February 2023. Have accumulated only 4,000 miles since mostly on city streets. whenever I drive my HRV over 5 miles at 45 or 35 miles per hour, the steering wheel intermittently wants to turn right or left and requires more force to counteract than the lane keeping assist. I thought it was the lane keep assist function that was malfunctioning without giving a warning and turned it of. That did not fix the problem. It continues to occur intermittently. The dealer was not able to duplicate.
NHTSA #11589586
The steering rack and pinion need to be replaced. It was inspected by a Honda dealership that confirmed this system failed and it is deemed unsafe to drive. The dealership is holding the car and said it cannot be released back to me without signing a release that the car is unsafe to drive. There were no warning lights. The steering wheel progressively began to stick more when I drove, especially at high speeds on the highway. I had to manually turn the wheel back and struggled to hold it in place when driving straight. This started around early- mid May. Car was brought to the dealer on 6/15 and has been held there since then.
NHTSA #11596304
The steering wheel keeps clicking, feels stiff, and hard to move while driving. I felt unsafe driving my vehicle so I took it to the dealership and they said my steering gear box was the problem. The dealership said there weren't any recalls for the steering gear box and that there was 6 other 2023 honda hrv with the same problem. They said they could order a part for $3000 but because the part is on back order they don't know when my car will be fixed. No warning lights came on.
NHTSA #11583609
steering is very sticky electric steering box problem
NHTSA #11579822
While driving on the highway, the steering becomes sticky (even with the lane assist off). The steering does not turn back and forth smoothly. It will get stuck in a position, and then release. This has made it nearly impossible to maintain a straight drive path without constantly readjusting the steering wheel. The car shows no maintenance or warning indicators. I feel this is a risk for me and my passengers as well as other drivers. Additionally, this is not a random occurrence; it happens every time I drive the vehicle.

While leaving the driveway for work, without any warning the rear windshield shattered. Extremely loud almost like a gunshot. I was driving approximately 10 miles an hour. Upon research by my husband it appears there are several complaints of this happening to this make and model.
NHTSA #11590292
My rear windshield suddenly shattered while the car was idling. I this happened because I was using the defrost system, as from my understanding several 2023 HRVs have had their rear windshields shatter from using the defrost system. The windshield "popped" and left a sizeable hole in the corner. As I drove home, the shattered glass fell into my trunk and possibly left pieces of glass on the road. I was worried that my passengers in the rear seats would have glass showered on them. The windshield is available for inspection upon request. I have not yet been able to take it anywhere to be inspected. There were no warnings before the windshield shattered.
NHTSA #11589490
Woke up in the morning and discovered that my rear windshield had randomly shattered at some point during the night while it was parked. At first thought it was vandalism, but there was no specific point of impact anywhere on my windshield and it was not indented at all. If I was driving my vehicle when this occurred, it absolutely could've resulted in sudden shock and caused an accident. There was nothing wrong with my windshield in the days leading up to this.

While parked about to drive out to work @ about 18:30, I turned on my car and my rear windshield spontaneously shattered. My wiper is still intact, but my entire windshield has spider web-like cracking all over, leaving a hole on my left side, slightly big. Please see photos attached. (My recalled seatbelts were already serviced by AutoNation Valencia.) I found an online article from last month where this is a random, on-going issue with Honda 2023 HR-V models: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving, I heard a loud pop, and the rear windshield shattered completely. I had the rear defroster on. There was no sign of an object that hit the windshield, it just blew out unexpectedly. I took photos and called the insurance company, but nobody else has inspected the windshield except for me. This posed a safety risk, as I was startled and could not see out the back window. I was not able to pull over due to the lack of a safe area to pull over. There were no warnings of this event, this was the first and only incident. I did some research on this issue, and it appears that I am not the only one who has had the rear windshield shatter in my 2023 Honda HRV, due to a manufacturing defect in the seal around the rear defroster system.

Valve cover started leaking after 3rd oil change in dealership. Took it in and they retorqued to factory spec, applied silicone and cleaned it under the included drivetrain warranty. They did not replace my valve cover like I thought they would. This should not be happening on a year old vehicle with about 15900 miles.

Dear Sir/Madam While driving on [XXX] the message came on the screen 12 volt battery charging system problem. Do not drive. Time 10.54AM. The noise would start in the engine compartment while accelerating, then a smell entered the cabin of the car. I pulled over one mile after at a nearby service area and when I opened up the hood i have discovered a loose belt and a loose pulley. I towed the car to the [XXX] Honda in Reading, MA. The service didn't do much to investigate the issue and instigated that because I did not do an oil change at Honda Dealer they cannot cover the malfunction by warranty until Honda Corp approves it. I did my own investigation and found a broken off bolt laying in the bottom of the engine cover. I showed the discovery to them and then they voided a 240$ diagnostics charge. Then the real mechanic showed up by accident, saw the bolt and said that it did not surprise him at all. I think that the bolt pulleys bolts were overtightened and over the time they snap loose. Big issue is present for a new model 2023 Honda HR-V and later editions possibly. Thank You [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

We have since become aware that Honda is aware of the exploding rear window phenomenon caused by the heating coil concentration in one area, creating a hot spot and weakening the glass. My 2023 Honda HR-V is now at the dealership where we purchased it for repair and was told today that Honda will cover the cost. However, the rear window for our vehicle is on back order (I wonder why). There was no warning just a loud instantaneous explosion and glass flying.

After several failed attempts, the contact attempted to jumpstart the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the contact was later informed that rodents had chewed on the wiring harnesses due to the wiring harnesses being made with soy-based, eco-friendly materials. Me and my grandkids had a scary experience sitting in my 2023 Honda HRV in parking lot with the vehicle off. The back window exploded around the perimeter. The window started making a crackling sound then completely shattered. I have owned the vehicle for just about a year. I took the car to the dealership in regards to this issue and spoke with a manager who approved repairing the window and having an electrical inspection. He advised the window would be ordered and to check back in a few days for repair and inspection. When I reached back out to the dealership I was advised by a tech that the rear glass had NOT been ordered. The rear glass has now been ordered, however, now I'm being told that the glass is on backorder with 149 orders before me. When I asked tech how long it would take to get repaired he didn't have an answer and told me to check every week. In the mean time I asked if the inspection can be done; I'm still pending getting an appointment for the electrical inspection.

The Back window blew up and dispersed glass at least 5 ft into my driveway while I was standing behind it. It was very scary and frightening. Fortunately, I did not get hit with any debris. The windows continued to make a crackling sound for several minutes. I had just got a safety recall a few days before and was planning on taking it in but the notification should have been much sooner and marked urgent, for example: Do not drive your car, it may blow up. When I researched, I can see that the issue was known as early as Jan 2024 and I was just notified in September 2024. Also, Honda is not offering loners for the fix even though we have to wait for the window to come in and have no transportation. They should be very accommodating considering the situation - people could really get hurt.

After a 20 minute drive back to house, a smell of something burning became present inside the car. Rolled windows down to let smoke filled cabin escape. Upon arrival inside the garage and after parking car. As I was exiting car, the rear window exploded with my daughter a few feet from back of car. It was loud and recorded on video. Back of window was hot to touch. Honda dealer was quick to blame an impact from a foreign object, along with outside smell of fire entering the cabin while driving to explain away the damages. Also, the window being hot was blamed on a hot sun. Reached out to Honda, and I put in complaint. 3 days later, Honda dealer has been approved to fix problem. No warning lights. Just a strong smell of an electrical short that needs to be found. Glass was everywhere.

I purchased a brand new 2023 Honda HR-V. Recently, the passenger-side LED headlight assembly suddenly stopped working, and I had to pay $1,500 out of pocket to replace it at a Honda dealer. Shockingly, just one month later, the driver-side LED headlight also completely failed. Having both major LED headlights fail within a single month on a vehicle less than 3 years old indicates a severe factory defect, likely caused by a faulty Body Control Module (BCM) or a voltage spike in the electrical system. This poses a critical safety hazard for nighttime driving. Honda refused to cover it under warranty due to high mileage, but this is clearly not normal wear and tear.
NHTSA #11743468
The headlights seem to high for the vehicle, blinding other drivers, after some research they can be lower, but the dealer does not seem to see that problem

The steering wheel will automatically jerk to the left and right while driving, particularly in cold weather. I had at first thought this was the lane assist, however I turned it off and the it was still happening. While driving on the highway it’s as if the steering wheel is making small motions left and right on its own as I am trying to keep a straight path on the road. It has not put me at any direct safety risks but it is definitely a nuisance and makes the driving experience very annoying. I have not yet taken it to a dealership to be duplicated or inspected, however I have read that there have been multiple reports made to NHTSA about this same issue. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this issue.
NHTSA #11571498
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that all the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle stalled upon starting. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the fuse was replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While depressing the start button, the look in the rear mirror was displayed. The vehicle failed to start. The brake pedal was kicking back. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
NHTSA #11736027
While driving, the vehicle experienced a serious steering malfunction. The right front wheel does not respond properly to steering input, while the left wheel responds normally, resulting in uneven steering and loss of directional control. The issue occurred without warning and created an immediate safety risk, especially during turns and lane changes. The vehicle became difficult to control and unsafe to operate. The problem has occurred more than once and is not consistent with normal wear and tear for a vehicle of this age and mileage. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and recommended replacement of the complete steering rack, including inner tie rods, boots, and clamps. The dealership also recommended replacement of the right drive axle due to a damaged outer joint. No warning lights or dashboard messages appeared prior to the failure. The vehicle required inspection and repair due to the safety risk.

I am writing to report a serious tire failure incident involving a Hankook tire that came with my brand-new 2023 Honda HR-V. While driving recently — with approximately 16,500 miles on the vehicle — the rear tire suddenly blew out without any prior warning. Fortunately, I was able to maintain control and safely stop the vehicle without harm to myself or others. There were no signs or alerts from the vehicle’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) before or during the blowout. Strangely, the TPMS warning light only came on after I replaced the damaged tire with the spare, which raises concerns about the effectiveness or response delay of the TPMS. I would like to highlight: Tire size : 215/60R17 •The tire had no visible damage or issues before the blowout, and I follow routine servicing through my dealership. •As a result of the incident, the rear wheel drum has a very minor bend. •Unfortunately, the damaged tire is no longer in my possession ( I have changed it), but I do have clear photographs taken immediately after the incident, which I can share upon request. •The issue has not yet been evaluated by a dealer or third party, but I am open to doing so if needed. This unexpected failure poses a significant safety concern, and I believe it deserves further investigation to ensure no broader defect or issue exists.

In the morning of December 31, 2024, I got into my 2023 Honda HRV and as I turned on the ignition, I was shocked by the shattering sound of glass at the rear of the vehicle. To my horror, it was the rear windshield that had shattered to smithereens. I was terribly upset by this incident and while thinking of my next action, I learned through Google that it was due to a manufacturing defect with the 2023 Honda HRV model. Yet, I had not been notified by the Honda of any recall in regard to this defect. I took the car to the nearest Honda dealership where they plastered the rear of my car with a thin plastic and promised to call me as soon as they got the necessary parts. The incident could have caused serious physical and emotional injuries if I had passengers in the rear seats of the car. Even, all alone, I was emotionally traumatized by the incident.

It has been 6 times that we have needed to jump start the car. The time that i start it before it actually needs a jump you notice the screen and ac take a minute or two to turn on after you have already turned on the car. Today it started fine and the second time it needed a jump start. I contacted AAA the first time it happened, they checked the battery at the dealer and everything looked great on the dealers end. They mentioned to record any mishaps. My friend who has a 2023 Honda H-RV Sport has reported that she is experiencing similar problems where her car also needs a jump start. I now carry a portable jumper by how often this issue has been occurring.

The car feels like the lane assist is on when its not. When you try to steer it jerks instead of smoothly turning especially on the highway when steering to the left. I feel it’s getting worse.
