Completed the oil change requirement in the recall for the 6.2L but engine blew while driving on I-10 while doing 75mph. 50k miles. Completely left stranded on major highway with family in car and vehicle flying by. GM needs to be held accountable. Their fix is not a fix.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine became inoperable, causing the battery to discharge. The contact further stated that no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a seized engine; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.

I am filing this complaint regarding my GMC Yukon Denali, currently at Greg Lair GMC in Canyon, Texas, for GM Safety Recall N252494000, NHTSA Campaign Number 25V274, L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. My vehicle has been at the dealership for over two weeks for this recall, which in my case requires a complete engine replacement. I have been advised the repair may take another 4 to 5 weeks. During this time, neither General Motors nor Greg Lair GMC has provided a comparable loaner vehicle or adequate transportation. This is not routine maintenance, elective service, or damage caused by me. My vehicle is unavailable because of a GM safety recall involving potential engine damage, engine failure, and loss of propulsion. The burden of this manufacturer issue should not be placed on the customer. I was told GM only can reimburse $44 per day for a rental. That amount does not reasonably cover a comparable vehicle to a Yukon Denali and may not even cover a basic rental in the current market. A compact sedan or small vehicle is not an acceptable substitute for a full size SUV. I pay for and rely on a Yukon Denali because my family needs the seating capacity, space, size, safety, and functionality of a full size vehicle. My family has more people than seats available in many compact vehicles. Being forced into a smaller vehicle is not only inconvenient, it creates a safety and functionality concern. If this recall is widespread and repair times are expected to take several weeks, General Motors should have ensured that dealerships had access to comparable loaner vehicles or adequate rental authorization. I should not have to compromise my family’s safety, transportation needs, work obligations, or daily responsibilities because of a manufacturer safety recall and complete engine replacement. I am requesting that this complaint be documented and reviewed. General Motors and Greg Lair GMC should provide a comparable full size SUV loaner, arrange and pay for a full size SUV

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70-72 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power, and the engine seized. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 45,504.

On April 7, 2026, I was driving my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, accelerating to pass a car so I could get off on my exit. Without warning, the dashboard displayed "Engine shut off, press start button" and the engine lost power. I coasted off the interstate to the shoulder safely. I was alone in the vehicle. I thought it was a battery issue and had a coworker attempt a jump. The vehicle would not restart. I called Moses GMC of Huntington, WV, and they dispatched a tow through GMC Roadside Assistance. I waited approximately 2 hours on the shoulder for the tow. After the tow, Pete, the Moses GMC service manager, called and said nothing was wrong with the vehicle, that it only needed an oil change. He said it started right up and he drove it into the bay. Moses performed the oil change. When the technician test drove it afterward, the engine fully shut down on the hill leaving the dealership property. My husband Zach happened to drive past and saw the Yukon stopped with hazard lights on at the top of the exit. Pete called that evening and said, "I think there actually is something wrong with it." On April 10, 2026, Pete confirmed the failure is the GM 6.2L V8 L87 engine defect covered under NHTSA Recall 25V-274 (connecting rod/crankshaft manufacturing defect). Full engine replacement required, estimated 6-7 weeks. This vehicle was previously inspected by Moses GMC under Recall 25V-274 in August 2025 and cleared at that time, approximately 8 months before the April 7 shutdown. Vehicle had ~38,000 miles, garage kept, full maintenance records, no prior engine issues or warning signs. No crash, no injury, no other vehicles involved in any of the three failure events.

NHTSA #11733280

My engine has metal flake in it and once which is a sign of engine failure. I reported it to GM they said it was a normal amount and to keep an eye on it the next day toil change. They issued a recall on the 6.2L motors and they have not on the 5.3L motors and this one is doing the same thing. I want to get ahead of the ball before my engine give out on the highway but GM is treating it like it’s not a big deal.

NHTSA #11729547

Months ago I took my car to the dealer for the engine failure recall and they said there were no issues and changed the oil to a higher viscosity oil. Today I was driving and my engine failed while turning onto a busy road and took multiple tries to get started. It finally started and the engine light was flashing. The dealer told me th flashing engine light was bad and to not drive at all. I pulled over and had it towed to the dealer. The engine light stopped flashing. The dealer said they pulled a code on the computer and would look at it. They had my car for a full day so far and have said they can't find an issue. I do not feel safe having my family in this car when the engine can fail and they say nothing is wrong. I am lucky that I wasn't hit at the location it failed at.

Loss of propulsion due to engine failure after recall repair completed.

NHTSA #11732401

Was driving approximately 70 miles per hour on the highway. While driving the vehicle just stopped in the middle of the highway after going 70 miles per hour. Was unable to put car in park. Car just shut off. Four police cars had to surround car due to being stuck in the middle of the highway with my small child in the car. Took an hour to get a tow truck. Being told our engine is now completely shot.

NHTSA #11726597

While my husband was driving me and our 2 kids getting off of the highway, we experienced catastrophic engine failure. The engine just shut off with NO warning. It went in to Neutral and then park and shut off and would not turn back on. We were stranded on the side of the road in the dark while it was raining. We waited on an active roadway for 1 hour for a tow to come. It was towed to the dealership. The dealership reported that the engine is blown and that they ordered a replacement. I have a case open with GM who has confirmed the engine replacement is under warranty but what is to say this won’t happen again with the new engine ? The vehicle is not safe.

NHTSA #11734687

On September 4, 2025, I brought my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali in for the product safety recall regarding the engine. My engine passed the recall inspection and I was given an oil change with high grade synthetic oil. This past Saturday, March 7, 2026 as I was driving in Tampa Florida with my [XXX] son, my Yukon experienced catastrophic engine failure and I lost all propulsion control. The car went into neutral and I pulled along the side of the road safely to avoid an accident. As I put my car into park, the engine shut off completely and would not turn on again. There was no clicking sound and no attempting to turn over. I contacted roadside assistance and they sent a towing company to bring my Yukon to Century Buick GMC in Tampa Florida. The symptoms of what happened are similar to those of the recall. The dealership is replacing the engine however this is a critical safety issue as my son and I could have been severely hurt and or killed. Please investigate. Recall Notice for Engine - Recall Service done 12/7/2025 - completed Full Engine Failure 12/22/2025 after recall service completed - Engine Replaced and returned to us on 1/15/2026 2/20/2026 - Service Engine Light with same warning code now on Yukon with new Engine - appears as if new engine has failed

NHTSA #11719366

The engine failed and had to be replaced with less than 70,000 miles on it. There has already been a recall associated with these vehicles where a part is either replaced or special oil has to be used. It does not seem that the fix prevents the engine from failing.

NHTSA #11720131

My 2023 Yukon Denali is part of the L87 engine loss of propulsion recall. On August 28, 2025 my Yukon was inspected by Sterling McCall Buick GMC (where I purchased it) and it was deemed to have passed inspection. They changed the oil and installed a new oil fill cap and filter. On February 13, 2026 I took my Yukon to my mechanic for an oil change. Upon initiation, he advised me that he found the oil stick to be dry, no oil on the stick. There was no leak.

NHTSA #11718012

While driving down the road, my 2023 Yukon 6.2L engine shut down, shifted to neutral, and a message on the screen said “press start again” leaving my family in a powerless vehicle in the middle of the road in moving traffic. There were no warning signs nor is my vehicle included in a current recall. The vehicle will be taken to the dealership tomorrow morning.

NHTSA #11716367

Post initial remedy, which included oil sand cap replacement to 0-40, as directed by the manufacturer's recall documents, and passing the PicoScope test on August 26, 2025, the vehicle lost propulsion while traveling 58 mph, in the center lane of a busy, notoriously dangerous Saeford-Oyster Bay highway. At the time, the vehicle was occupied by a 2-week-old infant, the child's mother, and a dog. Prior to the failure, there were no indications of a pending or present issue. The vehicle's engine shut off, it shifted into neutral, and upon stopping, it shifted into a parked position, where it remains to date. Subsequent to pulling the vehicle onto the shoulder, the engine failed to restart. Approximately 6 hours later, the vehicle was towed to a GMC dealer, which subsequently confirmed that the engine is seized. The dealer submitted a report to GM to remedy the condition, pursuant to the manufacturer's recall instructions, but the manufacturer is yet to approve the remedy.

NHTSA #11717529

We received a notification that our 2023 GMG Yukon Denali Ultimate engine needed to be tested as a part of a recall. We took the vehicle to our local GMC dealership. The engine was tested and determined to "pass". The "pass", we were told, meant that we did not need a new engine, just thicker oil, and that the engine was safe. Mind you, our car was a custom order, took 8 months to receive, and is not even 3 years old. The vehicle is my everyday driver. I have two kids and live in a large city with a lot of traffic. A few months after it was determined to "pass", I was driving with my kids and dog in the car. The abruptly stopped, putting itself in neutral. Luckily, I had just turned off of a major interstate and onto a side road. The car would not start or move out of neutral leaving me and my kids in the middle of the road. It now needs a new engine. Prior to this issue, the battery died a few weeks after we took delivery of the vehicle. SAFETY!!!! If this happened just a few minutes prior, I would have been on a major interstate in one of the nation's worst traffic cities. My car would have abruptly shut down absolutely risking other cars hitting my car. All of this could have been avoided if GMC recalled AND REPLACED all impacted engines. The GMC service tech admitted that they (GMC) knew it was a "band-aid" that wouldn't work. GMC is putting lives at risk. In addition, we now have a vehicle we paid more than $150k for that is virtually worthless.

NHTSA #11712387

Vehicle had already "passed" the GM testing and received 0W-40 synthetic engine oil. Engine failure. Vehicle is currently at the dealership. This event put my family at risk of serious injury and possible death as the vehicle suddenly stopped working while drive on a bust street. Engine failure has been confirmed by the dealership, who have recommended installation of a new engine. There were no warning lamps on the dash at the time of the event. However, there was a loud noise immediately followed by lose of engine power.

NHTSA #11712393

Engine had a burning smell and cranking sound. It lost propulsion, no indicator lights were illuminated and the car shutdown while driving. This is a recall item. It passed the recall inspection. I also had it inspected prior to leaving for my trip 2000 miles from home. Im currently stranded and awaiting my options. This is very unsafe, the engine failed while I had no service within 50 miles. Freezing temperatures at sunset. Im being told that my towing and rental car may not be covered. GM told the dealership to do the oil repair first. They covered up the failure. I also had an issue with electrical items after the purchase and that issue is why my alert lights never came on even when the vehicle was Inoperable.

NHTSA #11711742

Car driving down highway at ~70 MPH with wife and our three young kids. Engine spontaneously shut off while driving. Electronic and other systems continued to function (power steering, brakes, lights, screens etc). Dangerous situation but was able to stop car in shoulder. Tried turning car on and off but car would not restart. Police were notified but did not come. Tow truck came and tuck car to a GMC dealer (GMC Danvers). Next day when techs arrived at dealer, they were able to start and drive car without issue. There were no present or stored fault codes other than a warning pertaining to the battery. Battery has been replaced and GMC is stating car is now safe to drive. Because issue could not be replicated by dealer and car did not store any fault codes despite the engine shut off, we question whether the issue has been correctly identified and repaired. We noted to GMC that the issue experienced was the same issue associated with the recent recall (for which the car was previously serviced). At this time we do not believe the work GMC performed under recall properly addressed the known engine shut off issue. We requested GMC and dealer perform another picoscope test to conform no issues with crank shaft. GMC refused to perform the service, despite us offering to pay for the test out of pocket. GMC is not offering any additional solutions to identify the cause of the engine shut off issue.

Engine siezed total engine failure at 31095 miles

NHTSA #11711420

Took my Yukon in for L87 engine recall. Advisor informed me my engine failed. No symptoms, sounds or messages appeared.’

NHTSA #11707693

My vehicle was apart of the GM L87 recall. I took it to the dealership and it passed the recall and received the remedy which was an oil change. Now about 3 months later, I was driving in the highway at approximately 70 mph when the vehicle lost power and shifted to neutral. I had to attempt to veer off the highway with no acceleration. Upon getting it to the side of the highway, it wouldn’t do anything at all and had to be towed. The dealership has deemed it needs a new engine due to the failure the L87s are facing. We had no warning at all prior to the engine failure, and assumed that after passing a recall it had some degree of safety.

NHTSA #11707538

Vehicle was brought in for Campaign #25V274000 (6.2liter engine failure) and passed the manufacturer's testing. The oil was changed to a heavier weight with a new filter installed. Appx 770 miles later, the engine suffered a total failure. The engine was replaced under manufacturers warranty.

NHTSA #11712214

I brought my 2023 Yukon in for the 6.2 GM inspection, and was told my engine was good, and the engine oil was changed. Approximately 3 weeks later the engine in the Yukon failed (seized) while I was towing my boat at 55mph, nearly causing an accident. I was able to pull the vehicle and boat to the side of the highway in a precarious location, which put me, my family and property in danger. There were no warning signs or messages on the dash, and no engine sounds. I believe GM's recall inspection and "preventative" oil change did nothing, and gave me a false sense that the truck was safe to tow with. I want to make sure the NHTSA is aware that the engine failed even after being screened with the recall. THIS FALSE REASURRANCE THAT THE TRUCK IS SAFE IS PUTTING THE PUBLIC AT RISK

NHTSA #11704091

I was driving down 85 South bound at mile marker 16 the engine started messing up causing me and my family to be pushed over to the median. Once I was able to fight it over to the median it started smoking and i was afraid it was going to catch fire, so me and my family had to get out on the side of the interstate until help showed up and said it was safe to get back into the car. I had to use OnStar to get a tow truck, after the tow truck got there and i made it to the closest dealership to find out that the so called recall that the GM dealership fixed did not help the fact that the engine was messed up. So i tried to get a loaner or rental car for my family of 6 and they rented me a small SUV that I can not get all my kids into, I was told they did not have anything that bigger so now I am having to make multiple trips getting my kids to school. Plus they are saying it is going to be months before I can get my car back because the engine is on back order.

NHTSA #11698529

The vehicle engine experienced a failure on the highway at very high speeds with no warnings leading up to this occurrence, same as many of the experiences of the customers with the 6.2L engines, which have been recalled for these defects. This GMC Yukon has the 5.3L engine, however, has the same defects as the 6.2L engine, excessive oil consumption and eventually engine failure. I am without a vehicle, with an extremely high car loan, and have to replace an engine in a two year old $75,000 vehicle. This should be covered by GM as it was a known issue and continues to be sold to unknowing customers. Furthermore, I am paying even more money to put another engine in this vehicle with the potential of having the same issues as the problem has not been corrected. This is deceptive and theft by GM in my opinion, and not safe to have engines failing in the highway with no warnings at all.

NHTSA #11698845

At right under 40,000 miles the engine blew. The GM dealership that repaired my car would never tell me exactly what happened, and they were very sketchy about the whole experience, but it required a complete engine replacement from GMC when the engine quit working.

NHTSA #11714902

In April 2022, I purchased a brand-new 2022 Yukon Denali from Roberts-Robinson Chevrolet GMC in Excelsior Springs, MO. Shortly thereafter, the first engine failure occurred in October 2022. The vehicle was towed to GMC AutoNation in Golden, CO, where it remained until repairs were completed in January 2023. Soon after the vehicle was returned, the second engine failure occurred in February 2023. The vehicle was again towed to GMC AutoNation, and repairs were not completed until April 2023. At that time, given the repeated failures, I worked with GMC and Roberts-Robinson Chevrolet GMC to replace the vehicle entirely. I took delivery of a new 2023 GMC Yukon Denali as a resolution. On October 8, 2025, the engine on the 2023 Yukon Denali also failed, marking the third major engine failure I have experienced across these vehicles. The vehicle was towed again to GMC AutoNation in Golden, CO, where it remained for two months. I picked up the "repaired" vehicle on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. This pattern of failures has caused significant disruption and distress. I have spent countless hours coordinating tows, securing rental vehicles, and seeking reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses. More importantly, these repeated engine failures, all of which occurred while I was driving 65 MPH on I-70 through the Colorado mountains, have created extremely dangerous situations for me and my loved ones. Navigating heavy traffic during sudden engine failure and waiting on the roadside for assistance has been frightening and unacceptable for a vehicle of this caliber. Overall, this experience has been incredibly stressful and disappointing.

NHTSA #11705913

Recall issued in April states that the Engine could experience a catastrophic failure and needs to be inspected for possible replacement. At this time (8-30-25) they are not allowing the dealers to perform these inspections. Why can't they at least perform the inspection to see if in fact the Engine will not need to be replaced? They are being irresponsible with their approach to this issue.

NHTSA #11683857

After stopping at a stop sign, I accelerated for a few seconds, but then it shifted to Neutral and the screen said "Press Start Again". I pressed Start, accelerated for a few seconds, and again it shifted to Neutral and the screen said "Press Start Again." I repeated this process a few times and luckily made it to the end of our driveway. I could no longer move the car nor could I shift gears. When trying to shift gears, the screen said "Conditions Not Correct for Shift." I requested Roadside Assistance. There is no way to get this car into neutral so he had to manually pull it onto the tow truck bed. The nearest dealership diagnosed it as engine failure and replaced the engine. There were no warning signs prior to this incident.

NHTSA #11684451

There's a recall on my SUV ... recall ID 25V274. The dealer told me that there is no part available currently so they refuse to inspect my SUV. I believe if the inspection revealed that there is no defect relating to the recall, the dealer is required to use higher viscosity oil. I've asked them to perform this inspection while they wait for the parts, but they refuse to do so. As summer vacation is here, what if the defect in fact does exist in my SUV that will cause a dead engine while driving on the highway, and we get hit by a semitruck killing me and my family. That would be too late isn't it!? How long must I wait for the parts and continue to put my me and my family's safety at risk?

I am filing a complaint regarding my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate, equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine, which is currently under NHTSA Recall 24V-266 for a potential engine failure due to defective bottom-end components. I received the official recall notice indicating that the issue poses a serious safety risk, including possible loss of propulsion and engine failure without warning. However, despite this being a mandatory safety recall, I’ve been informed by my dealership that no remedy is currently available, and I have been provided no timeline for repair or inspection. This effectively renders my $115,000 vehicle unsafe for normal use, yet I am left with no clear recourse, no loaner vehicle, and no repair timeline. I am now forced to restrict my driving to short errands only to reduce risk—completely unacceptable for a vehicle of this cost, class, and usage expectation. I am requesting that NHTSA formally investigate the timeliness and adequacy of GM's response to this recall and consider enforcing provisions of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act that require manufacturers to remedy defects within a reasonable timeframe. Thousands of affected owners are currently left without a fix for a potentially dangerous engine flaw. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] April 17th, 2025 Spearfish Cadillac Attn: [Service Manager or General Manager] North Main Spearfish, SD 57783 Subject: Engine Failure and Safety Concerns – 2023 GMC Denali Ultimate (6.2L V8) Before ordering my 2023 GMC Denali Ultimate (MSRP $96,000), I raised concerns about online reports of engine problems with the 6.2L V8. I was assured by your staff that there were no known issues with this engine and that I had nothing to worry about. However, within the first year of ownership, I began reading verified reports about widespread engine failures involving this same 6.2L engine across various GM models. I contacted your dealership again and was told that my vehicle’s VIN did not indicate any problem or need for replacement. Since that time, I have experienced two severe engine failures, both at highway speeds of approximately 80 mph. Each failure caused my vehicle to abruptly shut down and lurch into a different lane of traffic—creating traumatic and extremely dangerous situations for both myself and surrounding drivers. In addition, I encountered another instance in which the engine would not start. A stranger helped me jump-start the vehicle on two separate occasions. Believing the issue could be battery-related, I replaced the battery (which was less than three years old), only to suspect later that the engine may have partially locked up. I am formally requesting the following: A written response confirming whether a replacement engine has been or will be installed in my vehicle, and if so, whether it is a new build, remanufactured, or an identical L87 engine model. Confirmation of whether any updated parts or engineering revisions were made to resolve known lifter or bearing issues. The evening of Tuesday [XXX] driving from College Station, TX to Pasadena TX my GMC 2023 GMC Yukon starting making a clicking noise but no warning lights. For about an hour the noise persisted louder and softer and the check engine light would flash 3 times then stop, for a while then flash again. I did notice that when applying gas I didn't get the normal increase in acceleration but I couldn't tell if it was a power issue or a transmission issue. I was traveling about 60mph on a freeway thankfully in the right lane the vehicle suddenly shut off with no warning. I had no power, brakes did work and I could steer and I was able to make it to the area between the main lanes of the freeway and the lane of an onramp. Once stopped I attempted to restart the vehicle and nothing happened. We were stuck. Onstar was contacted and a tow to a dealership was arranged. A sheriff deputy stationed his vehicle behind us to provide protection until the tow truck arrived. The vehicle is now at a GCM dealer and I have been told the engine has locked up and needs a complete replacement. I have no other information in those regards. There is a long back order for new engines and the estimate is at 4 weeks. I did see the check engine light flash 3 times and then go off for a while then start again, but we were no where close to home and it was somewhat late at night. I also had coworkers in the vehicle taking them back to our office. At this point this is as much as I know but thankfully i was already in the right lane or this might have been a much more difficult situation. I was driving approximately 45 MPH and my 2023 Yukon STOPPED completely and it would not move at all, it stopped just into where the intersection starts. After 2 hours it was towed to the GMC dealership. I am now told that it needs a new engine at just 15,000 miles. Apparently this is a “thing” I had no warning whatsoever. The dealership has it now and it is waiting on a new engine. Extremes scary and now they said they will put a new one in and it “shouldn’t happen again”. Ridiculous Engines are on back order for at least 60 days because of this problem I’m told.

Driving 75 mph on [XXX]. No power under gas pedal. Transmission shifted on its own to neutral and there were no lights warning on the dash. Yes my safety and that of 3 children ([XXX, XXX, and [XXX] ) as well as my mother [XXX] ) and my wife [XXX] ) were all put at risk. I had no way to accelerate or warning from the vehicle that the engine had failed. It just so happened my wife noticed it was in neutral and luckily I had room to get from the left lane to the shoulder where the speed limit is 75 mph. Dash information center said "Press start to restart vehicle". I pulled off safely to the shoulder with 7 passengers (including myself). Tried to restart the car but it was no working. The vehicle wouldn't shut off the electrical accessories either and kept repeating the same warning. The vehicle was inspected at the dealer after it was towed. There were no warning lights or signs of any issues prior to this incident. Had the vehicle for less than 2 years and under 19k miles. GM towed the vehicle to the dealership who held it for the weekend and then Monday afternoon told me the engine was blown. I was not offered a comparable vehicle under their warranty to replace it and was told I need to wait an unknown amount of time to get the vehicle back on the road as all engines are on back order. Engine shut off twice driving down the highway at 70 mph. Electronics completely shut down then started back up, engine shifted to neutral and wouldn't let me shift out of it. Pulled over to shoulder and restarted engine. Took to Ewing GMC and no issue was found, vehicle was returned. A week later, exact same thing, but this time engine would not restart. Had to be towed to dealership. Engine is blown and have been waiting on a replacement for 3 weeks currently. This is an extremely dangerous issue, people will die from this if it is not corrected. Even once I get the vehicle back, I'm concerned about my family's safety while driving it.

I was sitting at a stop light and my vehicle completely failed without any warning. Was not able to start, etc. it was completely dead. There was no notice of issues or problems; no messages, no lights, etc. The vehicle had to be towed to a dealer and has been sitting for over 5 weeks waiting for a new motor. I was told that there is no timeline for when a new motor will be available and that it could be months! I travel with my vehicle for work so it is really needed!

We were driving our 2023 GMC Yukon AT4 from Phoenix, Arizona to Flagstaff, Arizona, which is about 2.5 hours north. A few hours into our drive, about 40 miles away from Flagstaff, as we were driving ~75mph on the [XXX] highway (in the middle of nowhere), all of the sudden our GMC just stopped working - it started slowing down on its own, put itself into Neutral, and nothing was working. We were able to pull over to the side of the road where we used OnStar to reach GMC Service, who called us a tow truck. As we were on with OnStar we tried restarting the vehicle and nothing was responsive. For hours our family, two adults and one child, were stuck on the side of the [XXX] highway with semi-trucks flying by us waiting for the tow truck. We were then told the two truck could only fit two persons, so I had to order my own Uber to pickup myself and my son in the middle of nowhere, leaving my husband to wait alone, dangerously, for the tow truck. Important to note a major winter storm was coming in this afternoon, so with no power it was also freezing cold in the broken down vehicle. The GMC was towed to the Chevy dealer/service center in Flagstaff, who was able to have a mechanic look at the vehicle that day. After a few hours they contacted us and let us know the entire engine blew and would need to be replaced. They let us know this is a "known issue" with certain Chevy/GMC/Cadillac SUV's that have the 6.2 engine. We purchased this vehicle brand new in late 2023 - at the time of this "catastrophic engine failure" issue, it had only ~12,000 miles on it. We were forced to leave our GMC in Flagstaff for repair, and told it would likely be 4 weeks or more to get the new engine. We were also left without a 4x4 vehicle for the entirety of our "vacation" in a major winter storm. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. I was traveling on the highway when my 2023 Yukon Denali engine shut off and switched to the neutral gear with any warnings. The dashboard display read "press start again" as I coasted to the shoulder of the highway. I was able to put the vehicle in "park" and re-start the engine after a couple of tries. I got a couple miles down the road, got off on an exit ramp then it shut off again and I again coasted to the shoulder of the highway. Again the display read "press start again", but this time the vehicle would NOT restart at all. I had full electrical power in the vehicle during both engine failures. I had the vehicle towed to my local GMC dealership. The dealership told me that I needed a new engine after assessing the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact became aware that the vehicle had entered LIMP Mode. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

This vehicle had a complete engine failure. We lost power and could not start it. We were stranded on a busy highway. This all happened going 65 mph. The dealer told us that we would need a complete engine replacement. We had about 16,500 miles on it. I personally know two other people that this has happened too.

We own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2L engine. On [XXX], I was driving to work and merging into traffic on [XXX] just south of Nashville. When getting up to speed, the engine shut off and the truck started to decelerate. Only warning light was notification to "Hit Start Button" - which off course I was feverously doing as I was in rush-hour traffic. Luckily, I was able to move across two lanes and came to a stop on the freeway shoulder. Called OnStar services where they sent a tow truck, but the driver didn't know how to tow the truck since he was unable to shift into 'neutral' as the electronic system didn't allow that without the motor on. A second tow truck was sent by my local dealer and then they had to 'drag' the Yukon onto the tow truck bed so they could haul it. After the dealer reviewed the issue, determined we needed an entire motor as the engine oil had metal shavings in it and had frozen the motor. We are one of seven vehicles at our dealership waiting on a new 6.2L motor. GM has provided a large SUV rental during the time we have been waiting. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while her husband was driving at 75 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated without depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the transmission started to downshift, and the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact's husband merged to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. While the vehicle was off, the message to press enter to start the vehicle was displayed; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer and diagnosed with total engine failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ON 2/21/25. MY 2023 YUKON (WITH GM ENGINE L87 IN IT) WARNING LIGHT CAME ON CALLING THAT THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, PRESS START. PULLED OVER TO BREAK DOWN LANE, RESTARTED AND WENT ON OUR WAY. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY TYPE OF ISSUE AND STATED TO BRING BY IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. 8 DAYS LATER THE 2023 YUKON WITH GM ENGINE L87 SIEZED ON 3/1/25 WITH ~23,000 ON IT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. VECHIE WAS TOWED TO GMC DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SUV WAS PURCHASED AND HAS BEEN SITTING EVER SINCE WHILE WE WAIT FOR A NEW ENGINE COME IN. On Friday 2/21/25, while driving on the Interstate at Highway speeds, the dashboard said to idle the engine. The engine then stalled and thankfully I had enough speed and there was a shoulder available to pull off on. The dashboard then gave many messages including voltage, overheating, high oil temperature, idle engine, etc... I was unable to restart the vehicle on the side of the interstate. I was towed to the dealer who advised the engine would have to be replaced. This vehicle has a 6.2L gas engine with 39,223 (approx) miles.

Traveling at 65 MPH on highway when electronic dash went completely blank, audio on car stopped as did the engine! Steering of vehicle remained in tact so I was fortunate to be able to "coast" to the side of the highway. GMC Dealer has confirmed a total engine failure and stated they will need to replace the entire engine. There were no prior warnings, symptoms or problems with my vehicle prior to this incident.

NHTSA #11643491

I was driving home from work at around 60 mph. Very sunddly their was a rattling metal sounds and then vehicle struggled to maintain speed. Before pulling off the highway at the next exit. On the exit ramp the engine turned off and would not turn back on. The vehicle was also stuck in neutral and not able to shift out of neutral for towing. There was no worning lamps or messages even after the noise and reduced power. Vehicle was towed to local dealership on Tuesday evening, as this was not scheduled it took them to diagnosis the issue as engine failure and recommending to replace the engine. The vehicle is a 6.2L GMC Yukon Denali with 23k miles. All service has been done at the dealer with no outstanding work prior to the engine failure. Where it gets more disappointing is the lack of information for time to fix. The replacement engine was ordered by the dealer on February 14th. As of February 28th they did not have any information....So i called GMC on that 1800 number listed on GM Document DCS6866 referencing customer satisfaction program N232413430. The first agent disconnected without filing a case. The second agent had to restart the process and was told that there was nothing they would do for 14 days after the case was opened before it would be elevated. When talking to the agent they denied any information related to the GM Customer Satisfaction Program or any knowledge of what seems to be a wide spread defect on 6.2L engines. The service and support for a $90k vehicle from, in fairness they have provided access to rental vehicle from a local auto shop. The vehicle is far smaller and different from our vehicle we purchased. The vehicle is still sitting at the dealership service center and is not functional until the engine is repalced.

While driving my 2023 Yukon Denali on [XXX] towards [XXX] , the check engine light came on and my truck stopped hard as if I jammed the brea but my foot was still on the gas and the RPM’s was moving. I was lucky that I was in the far right lane and there was no car behind me at the time or I would have caused an accident. I after 30 minutes waiting on the side of the road, I started up my 2023 Denali after letting it sit and put it in drive and drove 30 mph because I did not want to take the chance of my suv stopping abruptly again. I contacted a GMC Dealership and explained the situation and I told I am on my own and I would have to pay up to $10,000 for a engine and it would be no guarantee of being reimbursed by GM should I need a engine. i was with my entire family 3 hours from home on a ski trip loaded with gear and the motor decided to go. i had to pull into an abandoned lot, leave my family in a car with no heat, walk 6 miles up a mountain to get another vehicle and pick up the family. Then i had to call a local tow company to drive out pick up the vehicle and myself and drive 3 hours home drop the vehicle at the dealer and then myself at home. The vehicle was not even pulled in for 2 weeks to be looked at (no other vehicle was available) and then they told us the motor was shot - lifters cam and other things and that the head gasket was on back order indefinitly. This happened the beginning of February its now March 6, the vehicle is in pieces at the dealer with no time frame of when we can get it back. Meanwhile its costing me 1670$/ mo plus insurance. For a 100k$ vehicle to go with 30k miles is wildly unacceptable. I have had no luck getting a return call from a representative with GM which is why i am filing this complaint now.

Our Yukon Denali at around 34k miles lost power while in motion, it automatically put it in neutral and said try to restart. Rolled to a stop in a turn lane and when we tried to start ignition…nothing happened. On star was called and ran diagnostic, showing no issue. Towed vehicle to dealership and the engine seized up. 4 piston rods had broke and the engine needed to be rebuilt.

While we were driving at a high speed all control of the vehicle shut down. There was absolutely no warning that this was going to happen to that anything in the vehicle was breaking down. We were able to get to the side of the road and the vehicle locked into N. From that point on the car did not work. After being looked at my GMC, they decided that it needs a new engine. It only has under 15K miles. We were told that some somehow pieces of metal were in the engine. Engines are currently on a national backorder and we have been without our vehicle for over 4 weeks. They have no expected date that this will be fixed.

On Jan. 19, 2025, while driving home, I started hearing a loud knocking noise from my engine. Lucky I was still on residential streets so I was able to safely pull over to a parking lot. I was planning to drive the 40 miles home on the freeway when my wife said it might not be safe. That was when I decided to drive to my sister's house. Only when I pulled into the drive way the check engine light finally came on. The next day, I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and they diagnosed that I needed a new engine. They did not go into specifics as to why I will need a whole new engine but they did tell me that this was common and that they had other vehicles waiting for an engine also. My vehicle has been sitting there since.

My vehicle was being driven by my Nanny and had my children in the car, the engine started making a strange noise so she was required to pull over on a busy highway bridge in Tulsa, OK. There was no warning of any issues with the vehicle before this incident. It then would not start and had to be towed to a GMC Dealership in Broken Arrow, OK. They informed me the entire engine is locked up and has to be rebuilt.

January 16, 2025: Driving down the interstate near Atlanta Ga going 75 MPH, our 2023 Yukon Denali with 28,585 miles on it, abruptly started gearing down. The vehicle would not accelerate, it was coming to a stop on its on. Traffic was very heavy and it was a very scary situation. After managing to get the vehicle barely off the interstate it totally lost power and would not start. The vehicle was towed to the local GMC Dealership and within 30 minutes they told us the engine had locked up. We had to get a rental car to continue our trip and haven’t had much luck, so far, getting reimbursed. As of today February 6th, GMC cannot give us an estimated repair date as our engine is on back order!

NHTSA #11641032

The engine turned off while driving TWICE with NO WARNING. The first time the engine turned off without warning doing around 60MPH but was able to be restarted and ran normally for about a week or so. The second and final time that the engine turned off without warning was about a week after the first incident. The engine would not restart, in fact, it would not even crank. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was determined to be a crankshaft bearing failure causing a bottom end engine failure. Metal shavings were found in the oil pan. Vehicle is only 14 months old and has 22,754 miles. All service was done by dealer at manufacturers suggested intervals.

Research shows this is a common problem and a safety issue and can leave driver stranded or worse. Had vehicle "serviced" at selling dealer, but they did not touch the transmission. Said they drove it around the block and it was fine. Image attached. I was then told that parts are not available and GM will not authorize swapping out the valve body. My name is [XXX] , and I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious safety defect in my 2023 GMC Yukon with a 3.0 Duramax diesel engine. The issue involves the transmission valve body, which has caused rear wheel lockup at highway speeds. I experienced this issue at 34,000 miles on my vehicle, and it has been in the shop for over 5 weeks with no estimated time on parts availability. Despite opening a case with GM support, as detailed in the attached email transcript, I have not received a resolution. GM has refused to replace the complete transmission on the vehicle and only offered to replace the valve body. This is unacceptable as the defective valve body has already caused damage to the transmission. I also opened a BBB Auto Line case, which was closed immediately after I denied the offer from the GM support representative. This raises concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as the BBB Auto Line seemed aware of my interactions with GM support. I am seeking a complete transmission replacement with a valve body upgrade kit from NextGen transmission, which I believe would resolve the issue. However, GM has not accepted this offer. I request that the NHTSA investigate this matter promptly to ensure the safety of my vehicle and others that may be affected by this defect. If this issue is not resolved, I will have no choice but to pursue legal action. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. On April 30, 2025, my 2023 GMC Yukon with 68,000 miles on it (8,000 miles outside of the warranty and that I had purchased on 4/27/2024) randomly downshifted as I was turning into a parking lot and gave me a computer notification stating "Service transmission now, unable to shift soon." I immediately put my car in park and called OnStar for her to read me the computer code. She said it came up with two codes so we brought it to Wyatt Johnson GMC in Clarksville Tennessee. They plugged in their computer reader and that's when the service provider informed me that my car was un-drivable because it was unsafe. We left it there for them to do a diagnostic test on it to see exactly what is wrong with it. A few days later they contacted us and informed us that it was a malfunction in the transmission valve body. The dealership informed us that it would cost $2754.25 to fix but the issue is the part is on back order and they don't know when it will be available. We have been in contact with the dealership and with General Motors customer service almost weekly trying to find out, when the part will be available and where I am on "the list" and no one has an answer. With the personal research that I have done, I have seen that people have been waiting for over a year. I also know that there are current class-action lawsuits for GM's Yukons for years a little older than mine and currently multiple complaints for the newer Yukons for the same transmission valve body issues. The dealership does not give out loaners anymore after Covid. I have asked, general motors. Customer service has informed me that it's up to the dealership if they will give me one General Motors said they would look into a possible reimbursement program if I have to purchase a rental, but they will only cover a car that cost $44 a day and that is not including taxes and extra fees, but I can't afford to rent anything and I'm missing work.

I am filing this formal complaint to report a series of catastrophic, life-threatening mechanical failures involving my 2023 GMC Yukon. This vehicle has become a weapon on the road, exhibiting erratic behaviors that nearly resulted in a multi-vehicle fatality on a high-speed highway.1. High-Speed Power Loss (Highway Failure while my wife was traveling at 60 MPH in heavy highway traffic, the vehicle’s transmission spontaneously and without warning disengaged and shifted into Neutral. This caused an immediate and total loss of motive power. In a split second, my wife was left piloting a 6,000-pound unpowered projectile in the middle of high-speed traffic. By the grace of God alone, she managed to navigate to the shoulder without being rear-ended. This is a clear "Sudden Loss of Motive Power" defect that poses an immediate threat to life. 2. Unintended Directional Movement (Reverse Shift) Following a total engine replacement—a repair that took over 45 days—the vehicle has now developed a new, terrifying defect. While stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle spontaneously engaged in Reverse. This unintended movement occurred without driver input, creating a high risk of pedestrian strikes and intersection collisions. 3. Systematic Failure and Dealer Evasion The vehicle previously exhibited "ghost shifts" into Park and Neutral at low speeds. Despite my repeated warnings to the General Motors service department, I was dismissed until the engine ultimately failed. Furthermore, the dealership has been inconsistent and evasive regarding the serial numbers of the replacement components, leading me to believe that unsafe or defective parts are being recycled into these vehicles. General Motors is aware of these powertrain defects, yet they continue to allow these "death traps" to remain on the road. My family will not be the "crash test dummies" for GM’s manufacturing negligence

The 6.2L motor in my GMC Yukon failed due to the camshaft and stalled me in an intersection on a highway. Had to shut the lanes down to get towed. Lost all power and couldn’t do anything but sit in the road. Just did a PICO test and it “passed” but failed 3k miles after the recall was done.

NHTSA #11726210

I just survived a terrifying incident that proves the current GM 6.2L (L87) engine "recall fix" is a dangerous myth. Living with the "Ticking Time Bomb" I bought my 2023 GMC Yukon AT4 brand new, but for the last two years, I haven't truly "owned" it—it has owned me. Every long-distance trip with my family was filled with anxiety. I constantly worried that I’d be the next one stranded on the side of the road while my neighbors' and friends' 6.2L engines were seizing all around me. I traveled with fear that I’d be coming home in a rental car. The False Security of the Recall When the recall finally arrived, I thought the nightmare was over. On Sept 15, 2025, my dealer in Newburgh, NY, inspected the truck at 48,000 miles. They told me my engine "passed," switched the oil to 0W-40, and issued me a 150,000-mile extended warranty. I realized then what I know for sure now: 0W-40 oil is a band-aid, not a cure. GM used thicker oil to "cushion" a physical manufacturing defect in the crankshaft and bearings just to avoid the multi-billion dollar cost of engine replacements. They traded my family’s safety for their bottom line. The Catastrophic Failure Last Friday, March 13, 2026, the "fix" failed. I was traveling 70 mph uphill on I-84 with my **newborn baby** and two other kids in the back. Without warning, the engine seized solid. I lost all propulsion in heavy traffic and had to fight to get my children to the shoulder. We sat in the freezing cold for over an hour while traffic flew by us. An extended warranty is worthless when your engine dies in a high-speed traffic lane with an infant in the car.

The vehicle drove fine had no warning/ check engine lights. My girlfriend came up to a busy intersection and when she proceeded to cross the intersection the vehicles motor locked up stopping the vehicle in the middle of the intersection with traffic coming from both north and south direction. We had poor visibility due to blowing snow so she had to bail from the vehicle and stand on the side of the road so she would not be harmed if the vehicle was t boned. Vehicle stopped so hard and fast it threw her into the steering wheel. Was unable to get the vehicle restarted and could not get it to shift into neutral so vehicle blocked 1 lane of traffic completely and half of another lane until tow truck arrived to remove from road.

Vehicle was brought to dealership Fountain Buick GMC 8701 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32809 (866) 465-4364 for recall on engine. Dealership told our company that they were unable to repair or diagnose the recall this month June 2025. Vehicle has had an intermittent check engine light from time to time. I was instructed that it was safe to still drive the vehicle.

While driving on the mass pike with my fiancé and 4 kids our motor suddenly died. We were using cruise control going 75mph and the vehicle shifted into neutral itself and the car died. I managed to make it to a break down lane and we had to sit there for 2.5 hours before a tow showed up to help. The dealership said the motor seized and we were under the 60K for warranty and it was covered. They got us a rental the next day and then on the 3rd day they called and said it was lack of oil changes that caused it and they asked if i had records of service history. We bought the vehicle used and only had the vehicle long enough to perform 1 oil change. We did our oil change on time and I'm trying to locate service records from the dealership we bought it from. However there were no signs of dark and contaminated oil when i did the oil change at my shop and also no sounds or warnings coming from the vehicle prior to the motor seizing up. I think they are trying to get out of paying for the motor when its clearly a known problem with these 6.2l engines.

On March 28, my 2023 Yukon Denali stalled on a 4 lane road forcing me to make an emergency stop on the side of the road in a right hand turn lane. The vehicle required towing to a local GMC dealership. They could not restart the vehicle and upon evaluation found metal shavings in the oil. They have recommended an engine replacement. There was no warning, it just stalled and would not restart. My Yukon remains at the dealership and we are still waiting for an engine.

I am writing to formally express my concern and frustration regarding the prolonged delay in implementing a remedy for General Motors Safety Recall N252494000, which affects vehicles equipped with the L87 6.2-liter VB engine. This recall, issued in April 2025, was prompted by serious safety concerns involving sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion-conditions that significantly increase the risk of a crash. Despite the recall being acknowledged and a Special Coverage Bulletin (N252494003) issued in May 2025, there has been no clear timeline or actionable fix provided to affected vehicle owners like myself. The root causes, as identified by GM, include rod-bearing damage due to sediment and out-of-spec crankshaft dimensions-both stemming from supplier manufacturing defects. Given the severity of the issue and the number of vehicles involved (nearly 600,000), the lack of timely resolution is unacceptable. I urge the NHTSA to take further action to ensure that GM expedites the development and deployment of a permanent fix. Vehicle owners deserve transparency, accountability, and above all, safety.

My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of OnStar and telematics functionality during or immediately following a routing/software update. I had taken my vehicle in for my engine recall and noted another software update was required and specifically was told by multiple service members over the phone that the onstar services/telematics module was impacted and this update should resolve it. After some initial research it appears this is related to N212331730, which impacts OnStar and telematics services. I brought the vehicle to an authorized GMC dealer for the recall. After inspection, the dealer informed me that the telematics control module has failed and must be replaced. This failure resulted in the loss of all OnStar safety-related services, including emergency response and vehicle communication features. The failure appears directly related to the recall condition or software update process, yet I am being told the module replacement is not covered. This creates a safety concern because emergency communication systems required for crash response and roadside assistance are nonfunctional. I am concerned that the recall remedy may be causing or accelerating telematics module failures and that affected vehicles may be left without critical safety systems unless owners pay out of pocket.

we brought my 2023 gmc yukon into Parks GMC in greenville sc on july 26, 2025 for the engine recall that we received a letter from. We left it as we were going on vacation for the week and picked it up the following saturday august 2nd. the next week my engine light started lighting up and my husband contacted the dealership and we were asked to bring it back in. We did and were told that we now had a bad Telematics Communication Interface Control Module that was causing my engine light to come on and that we were going to have to pay $600.00 out of our pocket to have this repaired. After researching we found that this is a VERY common and widespread problem with a lot of owners right after they bring their vehicles in to be serviced. We declined the repair, one because they did not have the part in stock as that apparently is also a big problem of not being able to get the part in stock and two because we feel like we should not have to pay to have this part replaced as it appears to be a widespread issue that is happening. The dealership also charged me $182 for diagnostic charges that I once again feel like we should not have had ton pay. Vehicle had previously undergone the GM 6.2L engine recall inspection on October 17, 2025, and was determined to have passed. On June 13, 2026, at approximately 80,390 miles, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion while being driven with five children in the vehicle. The vehicle became inoperable and required towing. Dealer subsequently diagnosed engine failure and has ordered a replacement engine. This failure happened with out warning.

NHTSA #11744974

My 2023 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2L V8 suffered a sudden loss of propulsion while traveling at approximately 70–75 mph on the highway with my wife and young daughter in the vehicle. The engine RPM dropped immediately to zero and the vehicle displayed a message instructing me to press start. I do not recall any meaningful prior warning lamps or symptoms before the failure. I did not hear a loud bang or other dramatic engine noise; the vehicle simply lost power and would not continue driving under engine power. I had to coast across lanes/shoulder to a stop, which created a serious safety risk to my family and other drivers because the vehicle lost propulsion at freeway speed without warning. After stopping, the vehicle would not restart. Pressing the start button produced only a click from under the hood and the engine would not crank. The vehicle was towed to a GMC dealership in Victorville, California. The dealer has since confirmed that the engine requires full replacement. The failure has therefore been confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer and the vehicle should be available for inspection through that dealership/manufacturer if requested. This is especially concerning because this vehicle was already part of the known GM 6.2L recall population and had supposedly passed the recall inspection/remedy before I purchased it. Despite that, the engine still failed catastrophically only about 1,355 miles into my ownership. Purchase mileage was approximately 26,343 and failure occurred at approximately 27,698 miles. Based on what the dealer told me, the failed component/system is the engine assembly.

My engine failed while I was driving & I had no warning. It was very scary & dangerous. Luckily I was in an area where I could get off the road quickly. It started skipping then lost power. I basically coasted off the road & had to call for help. It was making a bad knocking noise. This happened 2 weeks ago on April 16. It has been sitting at Glynn Smith.GMC dealership since. I was told by the service manager that the engine failed & I will need a new engine. the engines are on back order now. I fear they will replace it with the same problem. I see the recall this week but will changing the oil viscosity really fix it?? Doubtful. Someone is going to get killed or hurt from this problem. I do not want the same issue to happen with a new engine.

I was traveling with my family on the Ohio Turnpike. We were traveling west in our 2023 GMC Yukon Denali when we lost all propulsion and the engine seized. There was no warning lights or other symptoms prior to this incident on May 3, 2026. In fact, I had the vehicle in for the prescribed recall to test the engine for the known defect earlier in 2026. The vehicle passed that test and was given the upgraded oil change to presumably prevent the engine failure in the future. It did not work. Our safety and others on the turnpike were at risk while we were traveling at highway rates of speed with sudden loss of all propulsion. The vehicle was towed that evening to local GM dealer - Yark Chevy in [XXX] . Upon inspection on May 5, 2026, the dealership informed me the engine had seized and would be replaced by GM. They were unable to provide a timeline for this repair. I have the tow expense of $260.70 and now the uncertainty of when I might have a vehicle back. On 3/3/2026 during the night-time hours, I was traveling on the freeway in my 2023 GMC Yukon at over 65 MPH when I received a notice from the instrument cluster stating that the battery was low and oil pressure was low. Before I could pull over to a safe location, the Yukon turned off while in motion. My wife and two children were in the vehicle. The Yukon stalled in the number one lane of the off-ramp. I had to remove my children and wife from the vehicle while in the roadway on busy throughfares and in darkness. I attempted to jumpstart the Yukon, but efforts were unsuccessful. The Yukon was towed to the dealership where I purchased it purchased from. The Yukon was returned to my custody on 3/10/2026 stating it was an issue with the battery. While driving the Yukon home it began to bog down and stalled out in-front of my residence as it was being driven by my wife. After arriving home (night-time), I went to check the Yukon, and it started with no issues. I drove the Yukon to see if the errors would occur again. While driving the Yukon on the freeway, the Yukon RMPs indicated close to redline and I received a notification from the instrument cluster stating to turn the vehicle off (traveling at about 70-75 MPH). Once again, I was unable to pull off to a safe location before the Yukon turned off on its own while still in motion; I attempted to jumpstart the Yukon but attempts were unsuccessful. The Yukon was towed again to dealership. On 3/11/2026 I was advised that the engine had seized and on 3/13/2026 I was advised by GMC the engine needed to be replaced (this was covered under powertrain warranty). I was driving on the highway going about 50 mph and the engine just stopped. It was very dangerous, and I couldn't get to a completely safe spot. I was stuck for 45 minutes there until police could get to my Yukon and help provide safety. I had 2 other passengers in the car. All of us were put at great risk and the surrounding traffic was also at risk. The Triple A towing took over an hour to get the vehicle on a flatbed because they couldn't get the Yukon in Neutral. There were absolutely no warning lights or any weird noises, the car shifted out of drive and would not go back into any gear. I am waiting for the dealership to decide what to do. My main reason for writing this complaint is this is a BIG HAZARD, not only for people who drive/ride in these vehicles but for every vehicle on the roads around them. When they stop with no warning, accidents and I'm sure some with fatalities will happen. This is a critical situation, and these vehicles should all be off the road. My Yukon was in my dealership service for an oil change about 1 week prior to this incident and I had a long conversation about the recall. They said my Yukon looked great and nothing was needed unless I had any problems. Since there have been so many others with the failed engine, ALL vehicles with this recall should be off the road to prevent totally innocent people from being in these dangerous situations. This is preventable if these cars are forbidden on the roads!!! GM must take responsibility before lives are lost due to this negligent reaction of issuing a recall but saying it is safe to keep driving unless there is a problem. If the first sign of a problem is failure with resulting catastrophic outcomes, then just issuing a recall is not enough. This must be addressed, PLEASE. This was a terrifying experience for me and my riders. I have no idea if the police filed the report but they spent alot of time trying to keep everything safe due to this issue.

I own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2L V8 engine. A safety recall was recently issued for this vehicle due to a potential engine defect that could result in sudden and severe failure. However, GM has not provided a remedy, and dealerships are unable to offer any repair or trade-in options while the recall remains open and unresolved. I live in a rural area with limited cell service and long distances between towns. This makes the potential for sudden engine failure even more dangerous. Out of serious concern for my family’s safety, I no longer feel comfortable allowing my wife or our [XXX] child to ride in or use the vehicle. The risk of being stranded—or worse, getting into an accident due to engine failure—is too great given our location and the nature of this defect. I attempted to trade in the vehicle at a GMC dealership to get into a safer and unaffected vehicle, but the dealer refused to accept it because of the recall. This leaves me stuck with a vehicle that has a known safety issue and no solution in sight, limiting both my transportation options and peace of mind. There were no warning lights or prior symptoms before the recall. The issue was disclosed by the manufacturer. A dealer has confirmed the recall is active, but no fix exists. This situation is unacceptable and has real-world safety and financial consequences for families like mine. I urge the NHTSA to hold GM accountable and ensure a remedy is made available immediately to protect consumers who are left in limbo by this unresolved and serious safety defect. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealership confirmed that a previous event was caused by a failed OTA software update. The vehicle has since malfunctioned again while driving and has been taken back to the dealership for further inspection. The dealership has acknowledged module instability and opened a TAK case with the manufacturer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected by GMC1 dealership. A case has been opened with GM Customer Care. No police or insurance reports. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? 9 days prior to the first major malfunction, the check engine light illuminate. On April 1, the check engine light re-appeared and the vehicle attempted to reboot again while driving.

My 2023 Yukon AT4 was taken to certified GMC dealer in November 2025 for the engine recall. The dealership gave my vehicle a clean bill of health at that time and the recall repair was cleared. On Friday, 2/13/26, myself and 5 other family members were en route to my godfather's veteran funeral service in Newtown, PA. We were going 75mph in the middle lane of the PA Turnpike when the motor seized up and vehicle lost all steering control and power. Since it was the side of the turnpike, we were limited in resources and stranded, missing the funeral service due to the length of time it took to get the vehicle loaded on a tow truck. Since the vehicle was unable to release the parking brake, the tow driver(s) were struggling to tow it. My husband, ended up having to go under the vehicle (on the side of the turnpike) to disengage the parking brake to help the tow drivers. This could have been a catastrophic situation. My vehicle was taken to a different GMC dealer than the original one that did the recall check. There are no rental vehicles available, so I am too out of a vehicle necessary for my work and family, with no time frame on the repair of my engine that only has 31,000 miles on it.

While driving approximately 63 mph on a busy roadway, my 2023 GMC Yukon experienced a sudden failure of the brake system, including loss of normal braking capability along with failures of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and ABS systems. The vehicle displayed warning messages stating “Brake System Failure” and “Service ESC” and entered a reduced-speed mode. Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms indicating a problem. During the failure, the brakes became largely unresponsive, placing me, my two minor children who were passengers in the vehicle, and surrounding motorists at serious risk of a high-speed collision. After extended deceleration, a minimal amount of braking power partially returned, allowing the vehicle to eventually come to a stop. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer, manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives, and the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a service center. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request and has not been repaired. This incident occurred without prior warning and involved a sudden and dangerous loss of braking capability at highway speed.

We are located in Henderson, NV and we were driving on the freeway in a construction zone with no emergency lanes when the vehicle lost all power to the engine going the speed limit. The engine had seized up which is a known problem with the 6.2L GMC motors. We have done all the recalls recommended by the manufacturer. The engine seizing, locking up , put our family in danger . We were luckily enough to be close to an offramp where people in other vehicles barley let us over so we can pull off the road or we would of been stuck in the middle of the highway with cars flying by us with little kids in the car. This is unacceptable and as much as this happening and GMC not fixing the issues, people are going to get hurt or killed. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN! . ThIS is a known issue with these motors and problems and GMC is putting bandaids on the situations when lives are in danger. Our truck is a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali with only 53k miles on it

While driving in approximately 10°F weather after the vehicle had been parked outside overnight during snowfall in Chicago, the vehicle displayed a warning that said “Do Not Drive — Maximum Speed 43 MPH.” At the same time, the brake pedal became extremely hard and the vehicle had significantly reduced braking ability, requiring much longer stopping distance. This occurred without any brake warning lights beforehand. After the vehicle warmed up and was restarted, the message eventually cleared but then there was a new transmission warning and the check engine light went on. After driving for a long commute, eventually all warnings disappeared. I personally know another 2023 Yukon owner who experienced the exact same message and braking loss under similarly cold conditions, which suggests this may be a broader safety issue affecting this model year. Because this involved a sudden safety-system activation combined with temporary brake loss, there was a real risk of being unable to stop the vehicle safely or avoid a collision. My vehicle is within the year range of GM’s brake-system software recall N242447990 (eBCM brake fluid loss detection issue), and it is unclear whether my case is related, but the symptoms point to a potential systemic braking or electronic brake control problem in the 2023 Yukon. This issue warrants investigation due to the combination of: • Hard brake pedal • Reduced braking performance • Speed-limiting safety warning • No prior diagnostic warning • Occurrence in very cold temperatures A sudden loss of braking ability is a serious safety defect.

Vehicle lost steering and brakes suddenly. Many errors on screen such as: Brake System Failure, ABS Failure, ESC Failure, Traction Control Failure, Maximum Vehicle Speed 43mph. Was able to slowly get home with no power assisted brakes. Did not drive it any more until it was taken to dealer 2 days later and the dealer could not replicate the errors. Dealer was able to see stored error codes; however, they could not verify any errors in any of the modules or computer. Dealer wants us to take it back and wife is scared to drive it due to no fixes or repairs. Loss of brakes and steering is NOT a situation to ask an owner to 'bring back when it happens again"

I bought my 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate on or around August 9 2023, and I bought it brand new. On May 28 2024, around 30k miles, I was on the highway and could no longer accelerate. I luckily got myself into the breakdown lane before my car shut down & lost power, ended up being towed to the closest dealership. After 18 days at the dealership, I finally had my car back with a "new engine". Fast forward to November 25, 2025, I was on the highway again, my dash lit up telling me to "press start". As i figured that was not a good idea while driving in the fast lane on the highway, I did not. in a panic I got myself over to the breakdown lane where my car turned off. This time (November 2025), I still had power, but no car turnover. After 6 days of my car sitting at the dealership, they finally had the time to look at the issue. The Dealership did the recall and got the car started, but the car still had a funny sound that the mechanics didn’t like , so they were waiting to hear back from higher up people as to what to do. Today I got the call that they will be replacing the engine for a second time and I will not have my car back until the first week of January. There were zero warning lamps, Zero Symptoms, nothing. I am Lucky that the Highway wasn’t too busy in that moment, because there were many 18 wheelers on the road that day, and one almost swerved into my car missing it by about two feet while my dead car sat in the breakdown lane. Yes I called the state police, Yes one trooper kindly pulled behind me to ask if I was safe and had a tow on the way. But that truck that nearly plowed into my dead car could have prevented me from picking my [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] daughters up from school, forever . To say that I am disgusted with GM, is an understatement. They’re risking lives. I should not fear for my life, my kids lives in a new, "safe" vehicle. No pun intended, but this is highway robbery. Purchased 2023 GMC Yukon on August 21, 2025 and after starting the vehicle on October 2, 2025 the whole instrument panel cluster malfunctioned, failed to turn on, currently does not work and is available for inspection upon request. The instrument panel cluster is all black, it shows glitching flashing white lines on the right side of it therefore being unable to read the speedometer, fuel gauges, tire pressure, oil life, engine temperature, etc.. Prior to the instrument panel cluster malfunction, there were no warning indicators. Being unable to view the instrument cluster, makes the vehicle hazardous & risky to utilize for me and my family. This vehicle has not been confirmed or inspected at this time.

After GMC completed 4 recalls recently, my drivers side seat lumbar support started automatically inflating to the highest setting, as well as the shoulder support. I could not deflate the shoulder support at all, but could deflate the lumbar support, but had to do it every single time I got in the vehicle. After they did additional recalls about 30 days later, the issue got worse and often times I'm unable to deflate the lumbar support at all, making driving extremely uncomfortable and what I would deem slightly unsafe given how inflated the seat is. The fact that the 2nd set of recalls made this situation worse makes me suspect it's related to module updates as opposed to my particular seat. Now I am on the hook for a $1200 fix. 2 different GMC locations did the recalls.....I do not blame either of them, I believe this is a defect GMC should look into asap given they have had similar seat issues in the past.

1. First incident While driving, the brakes failed and the entire infotainment/tablet system locked up. This presented a severe safety risk to my family and others on the road. The vehicle had to be towed to DEALER where I was told that “no problems were found.” I documented the incident with photos and videos showing the warning messages and system status. 2. Second incident Approximately one week ago, after shutting off the vehicle, a “steering wheel lock” warning appeared and the truck became completely disabled. Even with jumper cables, it would not start. The vehicle had to be flatbed towed to DEALER. I again documented the incident with photos and videos showing the warnings.

I am experiencing ongoing issues with the infotainment system in my vehicle, which has remained unresolved despite multiple service visits. The system frequently blacks out, reboots while driving, and fails to function entirely at times, for days at a time. This is more than an inconvenience — it presents several serious safety concerns, including: •Loss of the rearview camera and parking assist features, making reversing hazardous. •Inability to access hands-free calling and navigation, increasing the risk of driver distraction and noncompliance with hands-free driving laws. •Disruption of access to climate controls and safety alerts that are routed through the infotainment system. •Frequent system crashes while driving, which divert my attention from the road. These issues compromise both the safety and usability of the vehicle, and I am requesting immediate action to resolve the problem under warranty.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated and failed to exceed 10 MPH. The message "Reduced Acceleration" was displayed. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown transmission part needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer for 11 months. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Nuna is not responding to customers questions or concerns adequately. They continue to just send you to their recall page. Complaints are as follows: - They also aren't honoring their warranty and replacing or repairing carseats still under warranty. - This recall is also causing damage to other components of the carseat (such as the strap - fraying, other use issues) that Nuna is not addressing. - It took Nuna over 4 months to send out the repair kit. After I contacted them, not vice versa. - The recall replacement seat cushions are extremely difficult to get on the seats, not color matched (the main reason this matters is because customers paid higher prices for various colors and they aren't being made whole financially). This is clearly not a universal fit for all year models. Even adult men are struggling to get these cushions on the chair by pulling them incredibly hard to fit. -Their carseats associated with the recall are failing at random, not in predictable replicable ways. I've had several instances where a child was strapped in and tightened only to find the straps completely loosened as the destination. The variables of child weight in the seat and movement are not being factored into the safety tests associated with this recall. You are testing an empty seat completely cinched down - not realistic to everyday conditions when in use. -Once you repair the carseat it's difficult to get everything lined up perfect to know the button is functioning exactly as designed. I now pull aggressively on the seat straps multiple times every time before I take off to make sure all is well. That doesn't feel like a safety win. -Customers are left with fixing the issue themselves (lots of time spent!). Nuna takes no accountability. Nuna's responses have been horrible. Customer service gets an F. As a repeat customer I am extremely disappointed. I have explored all avenues with Nuna and as a result am filing a NHTSA complaint.

While driving the 370 miles from Fairbanks to Anchorage with our family and dogs, our vehicle shut down completely with no warning. The drive is through a very remote section of Alaska. While passing a slower vehicle, our Yukon completely shut down, to include the all controls including the dash and lights. We were unable to complete the pass, leaving us in direct line with on coming traffic with no ability to speed up to get around the other vehicle. The other vehicle, not knowing we had lost all power, continued driving the same speed and eventually we were able to get back into the proper lane and coast to a stop on the side of the 2 lane highway. The vehicle would not start and with the temperatures outside at 12 degrees it got chilly fast. Luckily we travel with all of our winter gear. Had this incident happened on one of the many steep descents or curves with snow and ice, the outcome could have been disastrous. My wife has decided that if the vehicle does get fixed, she does not feel safe driving home in it. Reading online forums show that this is a very common occurrence and individuals are looking into a class action lawsuit against GM due to the safety issues associated with this. An individual passing by had a code reader and tried to reset the ECM but could not. I will include the report.
