Hash Shifting and at times kicks into gear hard at a stop light nearly hitting vehicle in front of me

NHTSA #11743330

My transmission has failed at 131,000 miles on my vehicle. It roughly shifts into reverse and harshly shifts while in drive and the vehicle is in motion. My truck shakes while the transmission searches for gears and shifts slowly requiring extra power to move in normal operating conditions.

NHTSA #11724035

10th gear, gear ratio incorrect. CDF drum failure. Rough shifts from 3-4 struggles to shifts into park and reverse.

My 2019 Ford Ranger is equipped with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission that experiences hard/erratic shifting (as if it can't decide what gear it wants to be in), jerking/lunging especially in 1-2 gear when making a brief stop-and-go (stop sign or a crosswalk). The first couple time it happened, it felt like I got rearended or hit a curb.

NHTSA #11736221

The transmission stutters at sustained modest speed (25-45 mph). It was taken to the dealer, who determined it was affected by tsb 25-2134. This is a widely known issue and the dealer refused any servicing without payment. This should have been a recall, since hundreds of known issues in and out of warranty have occurred.

NHTSA #11709896

I’ve been noticing a delay in shit out of 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th gear. Sometimes it slams but most of the time not. Anyways, this morning on my way to work I passed a slow driver on 2 lane road. After I merged back into the lane, I resumed cruise control and basically lost all power to the wheels. The vehicle I passed about slammed into the back of me. I canceled cruise control to give gas and the transmission was fighting me to stay in a gear. It finally caught and I drove it the rest of the way to work with the “normal” 1,3,6,and 9 being weird. My safety and the other vehicles safety was definitely at risk. The was no warning lights that came on. I haven’t had it checked out yet because this is same day

NHTSA #11701697

Transmission shifting issues. Will shift out of gear or delay shifting several seconds and sometimes limited power. The 1080r 10 speed transmission has a know design flaw that was finally fixed in 2023. My 2019 is now having the issue and is $8000 to fix for a bushing that moves out of place

NHTSA #11704620

The transmission failed prematurely (my point-of-view) at around 115,000 miles. A Ford dealer diagnosed and determined the transmission needed replaced. The vehicle was a 2019 Ford Ranger XL with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission would get stuck in 2 gear, sometimes upshifting and sometimes downshifting. Driving highway speeds the speed needle would also drop to zero even though I was moving. They noted that solenoids were bad but replacement was needed. I had the transmission replaced with a new warrantied transmission but it was very expensive at 9,650. It did come with a 2-year warranty. That is half the value of the truck! This is the fourth Ford truck I have owned. I do use it as a truck and haul a few things around as projects dictate but do little towing, drive it reasonably, and do not take it off-roading. I have never had a transmission fail before. The Ford dealer, and three area shops, noted they see "a lot of 10-speeds" come in for transmission rebuild or replacement. As a now review many Ford forums I see many people with issues surrounding the durability of the 10-speed transmission.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. There was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine and the service warning lights then became illuminated. The vehicle was driven to a nearby Ford dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with internal failure of the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar description of the failure; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

NHTSA #11678319

Own a 2019 Ford Ranger, which is experiencing severe transmission issues including harsh and delayed shifting. A diagnostic scan revealed code P07F7-00, which matches Ford's TSB 24-2046 / 25-2024, related to known defects in the 10R80 10-speed transmission. Despite this being a documented issue, authorized Ford dealerships have refused to properly diagnose the TSB entirely and claiming it was no longer valid. This unresolved defect affects the safety and reliability of my vehicle. I am filing a complaint to request that the NHTSA investigate this widespread problem and consider issuing a recall to address the transmission defect affecting many Ford Rangers (and other vehicles with this transmission). Thank you for your attention to this serious safety concern.

NHTSA #11673464

My transmission failed on the highway. I was merging on the highway one day and all of a sudden I felt a sudden reduction in power which was dangerous for the people behind me, and heard an awful grinding/whining noise. I immediately limped it to the dealership and was told several days later the transmission (Ford 10R80) had a catastrophic failure and was lucky to get it to the dealership. This is unacceptable and I know I’m not the only one with issues with these transmissions. The dealership told me it happens all the time. This is a safety issue and unacceptable for the truck that is 5 years old.

NHTSA #11675449

Vehicle lurching and loosing power, almost caused accident. Determined DPFE sensor had water in it, replaced sensor. Problem continued with slipping gears and mis-shift. Transmission fluid was burnt and had metal shavings. Repair was complete transmission replacement. Vehicle has 94000 miles.

NHTSA #11672614

10R80 Transmission delays Shifts and slams into gear when it does shift extremely hard.Has caused my back pain. This is a known defect caused by the CD&F drum bushing. This problem has almost caused me and my family to be killed at an Intersection since the vehicle will not accelerate while waiting for gear selection.

NHTSA #11663707

Transmission feels like it is delayed in engaging gears at various speeds. Stop and go traffic is most noticeable. When it does change gears, it often feels jerky. Lower speeds at most noticeable but over 50mph seems to run fine.

NHTSA #11661531

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the transmission shuddered abnormally. In addition, while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle drove without issues. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the failure was diagnosed as an internal transmission pump failure. The contact was informed that the transmission pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the failure; however, the repair was not covered under the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

NHTSA #11684393

Transmission is pushing forward from 1st to 2nd gear. Pushing so hard that it hard to stop

NHTSA #11656968

Transmission bucks and shutters at low RPM. Dealer did not disclose the transmission issues

NHTSA #11654346

Mileage is at 86980. I have been having issues for a good 10k miles that are slowly getting worse. Transmission is slamming into reverse from park. Shifting is slow from 1st to 2nd gear. Has begun revving engine but not engaging. I have had the transmission fluid changed 3x and flushed and changed the last time. No leakage or overheating. I do not drive her hard, off road or tow. She always gets warmed up before driving. My mechanic believes it is the PCM.

NHTSA #11734116

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the transmission was shifting while shifting rough from first to second gear. The contact stated that over time, the failure progressed and had occurred while shifting into gear. The contact stated that the failure had self-corrected as the engine warmed up. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the transmission was faulty. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 77,000.

NHTSA #11659556

The transmission is shifting hard, delay in shifting, and slipping gears. All of this started when my vehicle reached 50,000 miles. Ford has issued a TSB for the issue, but refuses to cover the cost of repairs. Ford is reporting this issue in all 10R80 transmissions installed in several of their models.

NHTSA #11653613

The 10R80 10 speed transmission in my truck has failed, due to the steel to aluminum drum being different materials it cause pre mature catastrophic failure. the damaged components resulted in needing a full overhaul/rebuild of my transmission at my full expense. my ford dealer stated there is a known tech service bulletin about this exact failure which means ford knows there's a problem but will not fix it. the resulting damage was the sun gear has failed, the drum has failed, and there are chunks missing from gears 5,6 and 7, which also resulted in needing a new valve body, and new torque converter. i opted to take my ranger to a independent shop as i no longer trusted ford to rebuild the transmission correctly and i do also have the failed components. The safety issues were losing all drive train function randomly when in operation, on several occasions this happened on the freeway at freeway speeds, or sitting in stop and go traffic and the the truck would just rev but not go anywhere, both scenarios have happened with my kids in the vehicle putting there lives in danger. Yes the problem has been confirmed by both the ford dealer and the independent transmission shop. yes i brought the parts to the ford dealer to look at, but they do remain in my possession. no, there were lights or indicators that a failure was happening, ive done all the ford recommended maintenance at the time it was due, the hard shift had always been there but i was told that's just how it was on multiple occasions. this is a known issue and i have spoken with several other 2019-2023 ford ranger owners and majority have had the exact same issues occur.

NHTSA #11637681

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked forward while slightly depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. In addition, the transmission was shifting hard while shifting from first through third gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that no fault codes were retrieved. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to a local dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

NHTSA #11640444

The automatic transmission and related transmission control system malfunctioned. The vehicle experienced improper shifting and loss of gears, including a condition in which 4th gear is disabled due to a failsafe logic triggered by the transmission control module. The vehicle and all affected components are currently available for inspection upon request and are at a Ford-authorized dealership. This malfunction posed a safety risk because the vehicle was unable to shift normally or maintain consistent acceleration. The unpredictable shifting and loss of gears could create hazardous situations when merging, accelerating, or driving at highway speeds, potentially endangering the driver and others. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Ford dealership. After inspection and diagnostic testing, the dealership advised that the transmission requires replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by a Ford-authorized dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives (UNKNOWN). Prior to the failure, warning messages and drivability symptoms were present. Specifically, the transmission control module detected an issue when attempting to shift into 4th gear, triggering a failsafe mode that disabled 4th gear for the remainder of the key cycle. These symptoms appeared before the full transmission failure and progressively worsened over time.

NHTSA #11708360

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact turned off the vehicle for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 65,000.

NHTSA #11633452

In my 2019 Ford Ranger, which has 75,570 miles, on [XXX], I was at a stop sign on [XXX] , at [XXX] , near Statesboro, GA, waiting for a break in traffic to safely cross. When a safe break occurred, I proceeded to cross, and at about the halfway point of crossing, the transmission bucked, and the truck began to slow to a halt. As a tractor trailer was bearing down on me broadside, the transmission jumped into gear, and I was able to proceed, and narrowly avoided a broadside collision. Afterward, the warning lamp indicated a powertrain malfunction (wrench) light. I took the truck to my local Autozone, where I used their OBD, and the test result fault was "Power Train System, P07F7-00, Gear 10 Incorrect Ratio". I have an appointment at Metter Ford to repair the issue on January 17th, 2025. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Transmission failer. Lurches at start up even in park refuses to shift gears

NHTSA #11661686

In the past 3 months, my 2019 Ford ranger has had a multitude of issues come up all at once. First, my transmission destroyed a gear and needed to be rebuilt. Next was an engine misfire code that Ford detected, and ended up being spark plugs at 66k miles. The current issue is that my fan clutch failed, causing it to rip off the wiring harness that was nearby that led to the oil pressure sensor. This caused an instant loss in power on the highway and almost caused an accident. This truck has been given servicing on every mileage checkpoint that it was suppose to.

NHTSA #11617427

Transmission jerky. Trying to come up with a solution.

NHTSA #11609849

Transmission has been slipping from gears 3 into 4th & 7th into 8th. Also check engine light turns on & a wrench symbols. Then a notification pops up on my ford app in my iPhone stating powertrain 4 wheel drive problems. My vechile looses all boost from turbo and un bale to get up to any type of speed within the original engine’s capabilities.

NHTSA #11609318

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH, the transmission was slipping. The wrench symbol was displayed on the instrument panel. The check service manual message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

NHTSA #11624773

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle downshifted unexpectedly. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

NHTSA #11605700

Transmission 10R80, 10 speed. Had HARD shifting, 1st to 2nd gear, excessive engine RPM in 1st gear then dropping hard into 2nd causing tire squawk. Hesitation in power after hard shift causing loss of acceleration, dangerous in heavy traffic. No warning lights and no fault codes produced. Warranty time period expired mid June 2024. Mileage at 52236 was under 60000 limit. Ford dealership refused to cover any costs. Complaints filed with Ford Motor Company twice. Corp refused any support or compensation. Vehicle was taken to independent Certified Mechanic who verified the problems. Mechanic followed Ford Technical Bulletins to make repairs. Three separate steps in the repair process produced no favorable results. Transmission had to be removed and rebuilt with Ford factory OEM parts. Several parts replaced were of new design, indicating Ford knows of the problems and is attempting to redesign the transmission, but NOT supporting customers out of warranty. Since this was our only vehicle a rental was needed for two weeks while the repair process was followed per Ford Technical Bulletins. Total cost of repairs $7301.82 for vehicle 2 months out of warranty with less than 53000 miles. Also having problems with the Sync System that the dealership also refused to even test at no charge. Since we did not feel safe with this vehicle, nor did it seem reliable, we traded the truck in for a Nissan. We are seeking reimbursement for all costs of repairs and rental cars. Ford needs to issue a recall and reimburse customers regardless of miles and warranty expirations. I have receipts for all expenditures and all parts removed and replaced on/in the transmission. Documents can be supplied upon request.

i HAVE A 10R80 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH 102,OOO MILES . IT STARTED BUCKING ON ME WHEN CHANGING GEARS AND SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE NO POWER OR SOMETIMES WANTS TO SPEED UP ON ME. KIND OF SCARY WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ON HIGHWY

NHTSA #11603318

The check engine light illuminated after leaving residence and traveling less than 5 miles. Had the vehicle check by a certified ASE mechanic, He stated that my vehicle had a misfire code (PO300), if it was a PO301 OR PO302 or etc, it would indicate a specific coil was misfiring, but the PO300 is a general misfire code. Vehicle is jerking, pulling, bogging down as if doesn't want to go forward or is losing power, mechanic changed the spark pulls the first time thinking it was time due to mileage of the vehicle, and cleared the code. One week later check engine light is back on with the same PO300 code, he says we can try changing the coils next to see if this fixes the problem. I called my local ford dealer, who says the will charge me $167 dollars to diagnose the problem, and tell me whats wrong. After I have already told them what the problem is and what the code is for the problem. Which is the same code i got from my $40 code reader is the same code he got from his $1500 code reader, so what can the tell me for $ 167 that i dont already know and have told them, and from further research on recalls for this vehicle, I have found that they already know this problem exist. Ford should be responsible for repairing this know issue of engine misfires before someone dies from this engine shutting down while driving and causing a fatality on the highway.

NHTSA #11595488

My 2019 Ford Ranger (Lariat) has as what I've discovered is a habitual problem that many other Ford Ranger owners are experiencing. While driving at lower speeds (28-40 mph) the trucks transmission will begin to knock and buck very hard. I've noticed, according to the gear indicator, that it is in either 7th or 8th gear. The problem has gotten consistently worse and I'm in fear of greater damage to the mechanics, or worse, a potential accident if it completely gives out while driving. - The truck has not had any modifications what-so-ever that would have in any way affected the transmission.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop and up to 45 MPH, the vehicle jerked, lunged, and shuddered while the transmission was shifting gear. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission was slipping while in low gear and in higher gears. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The VIN was not available.

The vehicle skips gears when upshifting and does not shift through all the gears when in cruise mode. The truck will buck and bang jolting the passengers and appear to stall out without any warning. This has happened on numerous occasions and has even stalled out in the middle of a very busy intersection almost causing a collision by the truck not having enough power to coast through the intersection. Based on conversations with the dealership, this is not an isolated issue with our vehicle.

NHTSA #11594912

Transmission is in signs of failure. Ford is offering updates to the computer to attempt to remedy the issue. Very similar behavior across all models with this family of 10 speed transmissions. Discouraging for owners just coming out of warranty. TSBs show Ford knows of these issues. No warning lights, violent shifting and worse yet when the vehicle is cold the shift will be missed and make it extremely dangerous when merging into traffic. I feel like I am about to be rear ended every day leaving work. There is no way these transmissions are 'okay' or that this is considered the 'new-norm' that the Ford Dealer is pushing. I have some dash cam footage that I shared with Ford (and on my personal youtube account).

2019 Ranger went into limp mode in traffic at the worst possible time. Error code appeared and referred to transmission fault at roughly 38k. Was taken to ford and I was told PCM just needed updating. By 45k the transmission was right back to shifting rough with sudden shifts jerking the truck. Called Ford to say hey it’s not right still. It’s continuing to downshift from 10th gear at 65mph instantly down to 3rd gear nearly ripping the transmission out. Every Ford dealership within 3.5hrs from me all told me the same thing. “We are told to say it’s normal for the 10r80 to do hard shifts. Ford knows they are a problem but want issue a recall, the only thing you can do it blow up the transmission while your under 60k warranty so they have no choice but to replace it.” Now at 80k I’m screwed and have to spend nearly 8k to fix the transmission ford said was fine.

NHTSA #11564779

My 2019 Ford Ranger for around 9 months occasionally has a significant loss of power and acceleration from 2nd to 3rd gear. It has become dangerous to drive due to the aforementioned. My vehicle has 54019 and is under the factory power train warranty still. The dealership told me that water had entered the EGR and damaged the sensor. They already knew by their diagnostics test it wasn’t a negligence based issue. The dealership told me at least 5 other Ford Rangers have come in with the same problem and Ford will not recall it even tho they know it’s an issue. I called Ford customer satisfaction. They stated although they say powertrain and related parts in their factory warranty and this is affecting the transmission they could not get authorization to fix the known issue. Please investigate this before people get killed.

I had expressed transmission issues with the service center for over a year. Paid for transmission servicing, reprogramming, and kept all maintenance up to date. All regular maintenance has been performed, and the truck has about 80% highway miles, and been cared for and never abused. Now, Ford is telling me, the entire transmission needs to be replaced, at a high cost, and the truck has about 80k miles on it.

NHTSA #11558390

I have had my 2019 Ford Ranger in for service to address issues with the transmission on 3 different occasions starting in Fall of 2023. Each time paying $106 for the deductible on the warranty to service a "Technical Service Bulletin" (TSB). Each time, being told of a different TSB that they would be addressing. Never addressing them all at the same time. In May of 2025, still experiencing the same/similar issues, I brought in in again only to be told that there was a TSB that they did not service, that my warranty had expired. Upon searching the internet, there are many people reporting similar issues with a similar response from Ford. I have spoken to multiple dealerships as well as reached out to Ford car with little to no response.

NHTSA #11703457

Transmission is shifting extremely rough, lunges forward or completely disengaged in lower gears. Initially started to happen with cold starts but now continues to happen regardless of the amount of drive time. Completely unsafe when merging into traffic because transmission will either exhibit low power, shift roughly or completely disengage. Transmission has disengaged 5 times so far during initial acceleration. Issue has been confirmed by my Ford dealer. Vehicle is currently being serviced for complete transmission replacement. Dealer has told me that this a frequent complaint that they are experiencing with Ford car owners with the 10R80 transmission.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while his wife was driving from a complete stop and releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle continued to accelerate unintendedly until the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated the vehicle experienced hard shifts from first gear to third gear. The contact stated that the transmission was slipping while driving in the higher gears. Additionally, the contact stated while attempting to drive from a complete stop on a hill, the vehicle rolled backwards upon depressing the accelerator pedal, nearly causing a crash. The driver turned off and restarted the vehicle, and shifted into drive(D), and the vehicle responded as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission fluid was replaced; however, the failure got progressively worse. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

My Vehicle transmission skips second gear going from gear 1 to gear 3 when accelerating from a stopped position. Issue cause jerking and a clunk when gear catches. When this happens, vehicle will temporarily stall until gear catches putting driver and passengers at risk of collision if turning at intersection, proceeding through 2-way stop intersection, or on hills/ on train tracks. My vehicle has never displayed warning lights on the dash. I had the vehicle inspected at a Ford Dealer. Dealership was able to replicate the issue. Dealership related they flashed the TCM, but it did not resolve the issue and recommended replacement of transmission or rebuild. Vehicle is at 62,000 miles and is barely out of warranty. Researching the issue will lead to the Ford Ranger Forum, where multiple other people are experiencing transmission issues with this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that there was a mixture of fluid and oil inside the rear passenger’s side wheel, and onto the brake calipers and the rear axle. The dealer determined that the passenger's side rear axle seal was leaking. The dealer replaced the passenger's side rear axle seal. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and jolted while the transmission skipped from 1st to 3rd gear. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to respond and made an abnormal sound while accelerating and decelerating, and then jolted when shifting into gear. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring more increasingly. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

[XXX] my transmission, went out on my 2019 Ford Ranger 4 x 4. I was driving on the interstate in Houston, TX during the Friday afternoon rush-hour, when I completely lost power. It was very difficult to get off the interstate due to the traffic. I had experienced some transmission issues in the week before it failed there had been some jerking, hesitation, and the truck would lurch forward when accelerating from a stopped position and while driving there was harsh shifting. I had checked the transmission fluid and it was normal. There were no warning messages prior to it going out. I had the truck towed to a Ford dealership where I was told the transmission was still under warranty. It took the dealership nine weeks to repair the transmission. It is now one year later, and I have just started experiencing the same harsh shifting on the interstate, jerking and hesitation. Since owning the vehicle, I have experienced a range of serious transmission issues. These include harsh or delayed gear shifts, inconsistent downshifts, and transmission slipping. The vehicle also frequently jerks or lurches during gear changes. Of particular concern is the vehicle’s behavior during downshifting. At times, the transmission downshifts abruptly and causes the vehicle to lunge forward unexpectedly. This unpredictable behavior presents a significant safety concern, particularly in traffic situations where smooth and predictable vehicle response is essential. These transmission issues negatively affect the safety, drivability, and reliability of the vehicle and are not consistent with normal operation.

Rear rear leaf spring broken/cracked completely and disconnected from vehicle. The vehicle was unsafe to drive as the axle was not not connected to the vehicle on one side. The defective component was inspected by Firestone Auto and submitted and approved by SilverRock automotive for warranty replacement and is currently at a Ford Dealership completing repairs because Firestone Auto failed to complete the repair properly. There were no warning lamps or messages and it the problem was only noticeable when the vehicle was on a lift or floor jack. The incident is unknown and it the broken part was poor design/materials.

NHTSA #11733822

Vehicle has around 50K miles and driver rear leaf spring corroded and broke, review of right rear leaf spring also showed corrosion and metal thinning. Truck has no off road time nor heavy loads in bed. I had to replce both springs at my cost even though Ford is aware of the 2019-2020 Ranger spring issues and refused to replace the springs. This is a serious safety issue that places the occupants and other drivers at risk. The mechanic said he’s replaced over a dozen broken leaf springs on model years 2019 and 2020. The manufacturer is being intentionally negligent and even the dealer parts counter agreed the springs are faulty, saying they sell quite a few regularly.

On November 7th. 2025, I took my Ranger to my mechanic for it's yearly emissions and inspection, to have the tires rotated and brakes changed. He called me later that day and had sent me pictures of BOTH rear leaf springs broken off from the under carriage. He stated that he could not tell how long they were like this and asked if I had any issues driving. I did not notice any noise or driving issues. He stated that he is shocked that I did not wreak the truck by loosing control because it should have caused my rear to be bouncing all over. He contacted FORD and asked if there was a recall on them and was told "No". He then instructed me to file a complaint with you. He ordered the parts and replaced fixed the issue.

NHTSA #11703308

The front eyes of both leaf springs were broke. Took truck to local shop to repair a tire leak and they called me to ask me how I drove the truck there as they never saw anything like it before. This is a major component that maintains the rear axle geometry and could have been a safety risk and should never be a concern on a 5 year old vehicle with under 100,000 miles. Vehicle has not been inspected by any other parties than the shop and myself. No symptoms were detected.

NHTSA #11699749

Both rear leaf springs broke at the eye on the forward anchor bushing, leaving both leaf springs not anchored at one end. This was undetectable until the truck was lifted for an oil change. It was not detected and released back to me to drive. The rear axle was only anchored at 2 of the 3 anchor points. If one of the other anchor points was compromised the result could have been catastrophic depending on the driving conditions. I drove the vehicle locally until i figured out the clunking noise. Both leaf springs were replaced by a certified repair shop. There have been other reports of the same problem with no re-calls

he 2019 Ford Ranger the VIN [XXX] , the driver’s side AC only blows hot due to the climate control issue addressed in Fords service bulletin SSM 51313. This is a known issue with the early production model of the Ranger, hence the service bulletin SSM 51313. The transmission in my truck has worked excellently with no sign of wear or degredation in performance, that was until the transmission suddenly began hesitating and slamming into gear. This is a common problem with this vehicle and is reported online incredibly frequently, while this may seem like a simple mechanical issue it did cause a completely lost of power when making a left hand turn which nearly caused me to be T-bone'd by oncoming traffic, and the hard shifting makes throttle response incredibly unpredictable. Please help us with this, there are recalls on the transmission in these trucks in multiple other countries with the chance of death as a consequence being openly stated. Me and my loved ones were almost killed because of this transmission which has widespread problems and NEEDS to be recalled before someone does lose their life. Ford has claimed this to be due to the adaptive learning software in the truck, but coincidentally has also redesigned a critical component in the transmission that causes these types issues three times now, but with zero effort to notify the customer of the risk or to openly address the problem.

I started hearing a ticking sound under the dash on the driver's side. Then it would blow hot air on drivers side and cold air on passenger side whether it was on heat or air conditioning. We also smelt plastic once in awhile. I took it in and was told it was it was the actuator. They replaced that and that took care of the noise but not the 2 different air Temps. Took it back and now was told the distribution housing needs to be replaced. I have read on a recall for the HVAC system it could catch on fire so the melting plastic smell concerns me.

Repeated failure of HVAC system, even after repairs, leads to not only a very cold truck in January in Maine, but inability to defrost the windshield and keep it defrosted. Repairs have been made in January 2025, April 2025, and now has to be repaired again in December 2025. My independent service provider who subscribes to OEM Ford subscriptions, was not made aware of an "internal" service memo until now. Neither from the subscription services or from contacts at a Ford dealer where he resourced parts and repair info. SSM 51313 indicates a different repair than was made on the previous two attempts. These repairs require the disassembly and reassembly of the instrument panel and are very expensive - especially when not apprised of correct. Now the SSM indicates a complete housing replacement to correct the defective part. See attached forms.

Apparently the heater box in the 2019 Ranger is prone to warping. This leads to malfunctions in the heat/ac in the cabin. They tell me if I don’t get it replaced I could wind up getting ac instead of heat. This would be a real problem in winter weather, as I may not be able to keep the windshield clear without heat. I saw many complaints about this happening to owners of the 2019 Ford Ranger. The fix is to remove the dashboard to install a new box at a cost of 2200.00, according to the Ford dealership I bought the truck from.

Ford failed to install a upper engine cover on Rangers with the 2.3 Eco Boost engine, this lets water to gather around the spark plugs causing misfires and stalling. There's something wrong with the heater motor or the heater itself. When the heat is on even at the lowest setting the heat is too high. It gets very hot in the vehicle and I have to turn the heat off. The vehicle will fog up when the heater is turned off. There's also a smell like something's burning or overheating and there are clicking noises coming from behind the radio/ heater area. Also If the AC is turned on only the passenger side gets cold, and the driver side blows very hot air. The heat is on even in AC mode, very frustrating.

Owner, who had bought the truck new approx. 3 1/2 years earlier, had driven about three miles on dry, paved, residential, hilly, roads and was returning to where he was staying when he came upon a waiting line of cars. He turned around to go a different way. Coming to a slight curve the power steering (EPAS) went out. Struggling to make the curve, the power assist kicked in and jolted him off the right side of the road. Had the curve been to the left, the truck may have been thrust into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Owner then slowly soldiered on, with the truck making an intermittent noise as if trying to activate the power steering, which it sometimes did, causing the truck to swerve side to side. Owner did not mention any warning sign or alarm or message occurring during this episode. At his destination he called for help and the truck was towed to the dealer. The repair order (RO) indicates diagnostics first being done on 6-8-23, which verified the lack of power steering, and showed DTCs C1B00, U0415, and U3003. My research showed the first pertains to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and the next two having to do with the ABS. The tech notes indicate he did pinpoint test BC1 (NO), BC2 (YES), and BC3 (YES). Next, the tech reported that the steering gear assembly had a malfunction and needed to be replaced. He added that he retrieved RVC code RA5VUMN131GXQ. Not having the steering gear assembly KB3Z3504A in stock, the replacement was not made until July. The RO said nothing about the battery, but it was learned that it had also been replaced under separate RO, which dealer has yet to provide. The dealer service rep said that even after they charged the old battery, it did not have enough power to activate an essential component; probably the new part, but I can't recall for sure. With the new battery, the DTCs, none of which I believe went to the steering gear, disappeared and the power steering apparently works. Truck is still with dealer.

My truck experienced a P0302 misfire on the freeway, which caused it to shake immediately and made it very difficult to drive. I had it towed to the dealership, and they told me there was water in the spark‑plug wells, which was surprising since I live in Las Vegas, NV, where it rarely rains. My spark plugs were rusted as well as the cylinder head. After looking into it online, I discovered that Ford issued TSB‑23‑2011 for the Ford Ranger due to a windshield cowl leak that allows water to drip directly onto the engine. Their proposed fix is to install an engine cover, but that clearly doesn’t solve the issue since my truck already has the engine cover installed. Now I’m stuck paying for repairs caused by a design flaw that Ford never properly addressed.

I took this vehicle in on 5-19-2020 for recall (19543/NSTSA Recall 19V-839). Local dealership removed skid plate, inspection/pass. Over the next 3 yrs. the p/u was taken in because of battery drainage & then battery replacement. May 2024 it was taken in as all the rear lights stopped working (exactly what was stated in the recall letter would happen). Was told at the time that the topper, which a very reputable dealer put on, did the wiring wrong so I was charged over $1300 for repairing the wiring. The topper was put on in 2019, recall was 2020, and nothing was found then. An inspection was done and not replacement of rear lights wiring. I came very close to several rear-end collisions as I hadn't realized no rear lights in May 2024. Now, I'm getting "System Off to save battery. Please turn ignition off or start engine" again on the console. I've contacted Ford at Dearborn and was referred back to local dealership and they have given me the run around. I was in a week and half ago to show them all the paperwork, was told they'd look it over and give me a call. I've heard nothing. I'm upset that the recall work wasn't done in 2020 but had to pay for the same work to be done in 2024. Since the work done in May 2024 really didn't handle the battery being drained, I'd like a new pickup as this one seems to be a lemon, or the dealership isn't doing what they said they did. I have paperwork, but it wouldn't scan onto document.

My seat belt buckle stopped working (part number KB3Z-2161203-AB) and despite the fact that my truck is less than 5 years old and has less than 60K miles on it Ford's service system says this part is not covered under the 5 year 60K mile Safety Restraint System nor the Premium Care extended warranties I have on the truck. Documentation for the warranties suggests it does but the system the Ford service techs use says no. When I've escalated to Customer Care, they claim "there is nothing they can do." Ford Protect (warranty department) says the same thing. A helpful Ford tech on the internet claims he looked into it and says the problem is that the Ford service system has the part misclassified as a "trim" part and not a "safety" part so it only recognizes it as something covered by the 3 year 36K mile bumper to bumper warranty. When I pressed and they sent me to Ford Financial Assistance for a "Goodwill Repair" I was told they would only cover 40%. I have presented pictures to Ford of their own warranty documentation that clearly states the seat belt buckles are covered and they repeatedly have pushed back saying "there is nothing we can do, it's denied." Bringing it to your attention in the hopes you can help me find the right folks at Ford to remedy this issue as anyone who has a Ford with this same base part number (2161203) is going to have this problem. See related steering problem report. After Electronic Power Steering Assist went out on vehicle without warning of any kind to owner, dealer's service department diagnostics as best as I can determine did NOT indicate a problem with the parts that were replaced. The parts replaced were: 1. steering gear/rack and pinion/EPAS (which seems to go by various names), and, when installing this new, expensive, and long-in-coming part didn't get the power steering to work, 2. the battery. The scenario suggests that the root problem was the battery, not the steering gear. A representative of another dealer has advised that the first thing they check in cases involving electronic components is the battery. He also advised that Ford does not have a standard operating procedure or service bulletin that says this is something that is to be done. Can this be? Apparently, at least for this vehicle, there was/is no system to check for adequate battery voltage or to warn that electronic components like the power steering may fail if the battery is not replaced. If my research results are correct, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes the Ford dealer repair tech found went to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and things having to do with the anti-lock brake system. They weren't fixed, but the codes disappeared after the new battery was installed. The diagnostic tools seem to give more misdirection than direction. With so many critical electrical components in today's vehicles, the warning and diagnostic systems seem woefully inadequate. I have read about Fords limiting battery recharging to about 75% and have noted that one of the DTCs involved here, U3003, sets on-demand if the voltage supplies to the ABS module falls below 10 volts. I'm a layman, but these things suggest to me that some of the electronic components require substantial minimum operating voltage which an older battery would not supply, and the recharging cap could exacerbate the problem.

On friday, march 27th, 2026. My 2019 ford ranger began shaking before the engine stalled. Warning lights for an engine check came on and my vehicle would not go above 20 mph after restarting. When pressing on the accelerator the engine would rev but the vehicle would not accelerate. I took the 2019 ford Ranger to a local Ford Dealership service center and they diagnosed the following problems (listed in full below). The cooling fan was at issue and multiple wires connecting my engine to the rest of the vehicle were melted off. The ford dealership said that this issue is extremely rare and they have never seen it before. After receiving this information from the dealership I discovered that the 2019 ford ranger has had several recalls with the areas at issue in my vehicle. The recalls are under number 25V685000 (Engine block heater), and 20V137000 (Fan). Here is the full diagnosis from the ford dealership attached below: VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN FOUND VEHICLE TO HAVE CEL LIGHT ON, AND MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS PERFORMED DIAG AND FOUND SHORT CIRCUIT PRESENT. TRACED SHORT FOUND COOLING FAN CLUTCH FAILED AND HARNESS RUBBING IN CLUCH ASSEMBLY FOR COOLING FAN The fan lowers the temperature of the engine. The cooling fan motor is an electric motor that turns the fan blades. When the vehicle is in traffic or under heavy load, the engine relies on the fan to cool itself. Some vehicles may use multiple electric fans for better control of the cooling system. For the most part, electric cooling fans are controlled by the same computer that controls the engine. However, in some engines, the fans are turned on and off by a temperature-sensitive switch mounted in either the radiator or elsewhere in the cooling system. The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied by a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (CDF clutch drum). Diagnosis & Manufacturer Response: The issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at Big O Tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford Corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA Engineering Analysis (PE 24-001) regarding this exact 10R80 transmission. Safety Risk: This defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.

My 2019 Ford Ranger 4x4 was bought new in April of 2019 and has approxiamatly 73,400 miles. Over time a slight glitch in the transission got to be more frequent. When first starting out within the first mile of operation, the vehicle would hang between gears and act like it ran out of fuel for a few seconds at low speed, as in pulling out from a stop sign or accelerating from a dead stop. My guess is inbetween first and second or second and third gear. It just wouldn'd go. Fortunatley I was not involved in any accidents. I can see where this could easily cause a mjor accident. There are several TSB's for this transmission and I believe Ford and General Motors use this same transmission. I have had my truck at the dealer for almost a month after it got scary to drive it got scary to drive. They are repairing this and contributing to the cost. This is in relation to an existing recall on the 2019 Ford Ranger, NHTSA Recall no. 19V-839 This recall was for improperly connected inline electrical connectors from the Ford factory causing issues with rear brake lamps. I have recently had a fault with the same connector, which Ford technicians discovered was not properly connected. This connector failed due to the loose connection, causing all electrical connections in the rear frame (fuel pump, rear view camera, cross traffic warning, parking sensors) to fail. Upon discovering recall 19V-839, I contacted Ford support. I was informed that my truck was built in the same factory as the recalled vehicles, but was completed three days after the impacted period ( JUN 04, 2018 - AUG 16, 2019). Therefor Ford will not consider my issue part of the recall. Ford has advised me to bring this up to the NHTSA to broaden the scope of the recall. I It seems clear to me that this issue was the same as the recall, and likely the original dates were too narrow. I hope you will investigate this issue.

There is insufficient shielding to prevent water from reaching the top of the engine. This results in water dripping on the coil packs and also entering the spark plug wells, causing loss of spark and reduced engine output. Over time, this issue also leads to rust in the engine head, potentially resulting in engine failure. Additionally, water can reach the EGR DPFE sensor, causing the engine to hesitate and shutter at various speeds. Both of these issues together cause a misfire when applying the accelerator and will cause the vehicle to initially hesitate then surge forward. Even with the engine cover, the venting at the base of the windshield allows water to drip down on the engine head, causing the above issues. Ford does recognize that there is an issue and have written several TSBs on the it.

When turning on to another road and accelerating, engine will suddenly loose all power. releasing accelerator will regain some power until vehicle speed increases. Throttle control is often erratic and transmission shifting is inconsistent resulting in hard clunks during shift. Pulling into traffic with a sudden loss of power leaves me vulnerable to a collision.

2019 Ford Rangers were shipped without an engine cover to protect the engine from water intrusion. This, along with the design of the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield being a 2 piece design with a seam directly over the engine bay, allows water to drain into the engine bay during periods of heavy rain. Water will drain from the windshield into the top of the engine, and begin filling the spark plug wells under the ignition coil boots and into the engine head. This water intrusion can cause engine misfire codes as well as a loss of power while driving, and on multiple instances while merging into traffic, the engine would bog down. It wasn't until the most recent occurrence that a check engine light came on. I immediately pulled into a shop and they found the plug wells were rusted, corroded and full of water from this happening since the day it rolled off the lot in 2019. I have had an independent mechanic assess the damage as well as had the vehicle towed to a local Ford dealer and they found the same condition- with the only solution to replace the engine head as they are unable to remove the plugs due to the damage caused by the water intrusion. An owner should not have to be concerned with parking or driving a vehicle in the rain and whether it will suddenly lose power while driving at highway speeds. This is a safety issue that Ford should be forced to take care of. They are aware of the issue and have been as they have issued multiple service bulletins with a solution for misfires to change plugs and install an engine cover. An engine cover has no bearing on an engine misfire but it shows Ford knows water is getting into engines and causing these problems. Engine/plugs/coils failed, it is available for inspection. Mine and public safety was at risk when driving as it lost power merging into traffic. Problem has been confirmed by dealer and independent mechanic. Last instance (2/9/24) was first time a CEL came on while driving

Known issue with 2019 Ford Rangers where they've issued a safety recall on SOME, but not ALL Rangers in that year. Related to SSM [XXX]: 2019-2020 Ranger - Climate Control Temperature Will Not Adjust With Clicking/Snapping Noise From The Dash - Built On Or Before 30-Jul-2020. Related to recall 19S34. There is an online thread with over 20 pages on [XXX] [XXX] ) where numerous people have reported this issue where one side no longer has A/C. This is dangerous as A/C is required in the winter to help dehumidify the air before it goes across the heater core to defrost the windshield. Ford does not want to issue a recall for all models because it's a labor intensive costly repair to replace the HVAC Distribution Box. The climate control system on my 2019 Ford Ranger has a recurring failure that prevents the vehicle from properly adjusting temperature or directing air through the vents. The failure causes a constant clicking/snapping noise behind the dashboard, and the blend door does not move when the temperature is changed. This malfunction matches Ford’s published SSM 49264, which identifies a known defect in 2019–2020 Rangers built on or before 7/30/2020 and states that the entire HVAC housing assembly must be replaced. This issue creates a safety hazard because the truck cannot reliably defrost the windshield in cold or wet weather. Loss of defrosting capability severely limits visibility and makes safe operation of the vehicle difficult. The issue is reproducible every time the temperature is adjusted. The problem began when the vehicle was still within the original mileage window of the factory warranty, but the dealership did not repair it. Ford has confirmed the malfunction is caused by the blend door system, yet they have refused goodwill coverage for a repair that requires full dash removal and replacement of a known defective part. There were no warning lights, but the clicking noise and loss of temperature control began well before the warranty expired. The vehicle continues to experience the defect, and it poses an ongoing visibility and safety risk. Ford has acknowledged this exact failure mode in writing (SSM 49264), but has not issued a recall or safety campaign.
