While driving my 2020 Acura RDX on the highway, the sunroof suddenly shattered without any warning. There was a very loud explosion-like sound that was extremely startling and frightening. No objects appeared to strike the vehicle, and the glass seemed to break on its own while driving at highway speed.

NHTSA #11742878

I went to my car, got in and shut the door. Immediately I heard an explosion behind me. It was my rear lift gate window. The glass burst into thousands of pieces & could have hit someone outside & myself. It was inspected by myself & others. There were no cracks or damage prior. I tried contacting the dealership with no response. No warning lamps.

NHTSA #11739990

Rear windshield (Tailgate Glass) spontaneously shattered while parked without external impact. This left the vehicle exposed to theft and made me feel unsafe. Will this continue to happen? The dealership replaced the glass but now the broken pieces of glass are trapped inside the tailgate providing a rattle when gate lifts /closes.

Rear windshield shattered while car was parked. Entered car, closed door, hit start button - rear windshield spontaneously shattered. Called dealership where RDX was purchased - They recommended contacting Client Services. Filed complaint with Acura Client Relations - received case#. Took vehicle to a local dealership per their instruction - sent report to Acura. It's been 3 days - no resolution - no case manager assigned - no loaner supplied. No prior issues to note with windshield. Did see many issues such as this one online. Getting the run-around from Acura.

NHTSA #11723769

This morning after getting into my vehicle and closing the door my rear windshield shattered. This is a known and common problem certain model year RDXs. We are waiting to hear from my insurance company on whether it’s covered. There were not warnings or issues prior to the shatter.

NHTSA #11718426

Rear glass broken 2 times: 1) 12/23/2022 2) 01/31/2026.

NHTSA #11715723

The rear window has shattered twice (2023, 2026). Both times, the vehicle has been parked in a lot with cameras. After reviewing the cameras no one was near the vehicle. After the first time, I became aware that this was an issue with my model. I contacted the manufacturer and they expressed that my year was not affected by the defect. It just happened again. I contacted the manufacturer again, they expressed, that in order for them to do anything a recall has to be put in place and to report it to you. In addition, I do not put on the rear defrost. I have been driving around with shards of glass in the rear door. Safelite has expressed, due to how the manufacturer built the door, they can not remove all the glass. Also, every time the door is lifted pieces of glass fall out.

NHTSA #11715257

Rear windshield shattered while parked. It was not vandalism.

NHTSA #11711918

My rear windshield shattered completely on its own shortly after I had gotten in the car, I was parked, luckily I had not even started driving yet. This is a major safety component that could have resulted in a dangerous situation if I had been driving the vehicle.

NHTSA #11715828

Got in my car, closed driver side door and my rear window spontaneously shattered.

NHTSA #11711374

Vehicle was parked overnight and woke up and the rear glass shattered. This is highly dangerous. There are tons of glass shards everywhere

NHTSA #11710241

I was driving at 60 MPH on the Highway and the Service AWD light came on. The vehicle immediately lost all power and jerked and came to a sudden stop. And then when i tried to re apply power it was sluggish for about 30 seconds before i was able to get full power. I then pulled over to the side of the road and turned the vehicle on and off the error code disappeared. This happens at random times while driving the car and is extremely dangerous.

NHTSA #11709083

I have a 2020 Acura RDX. In December 2022 I came out to my car and when I opened the door the entire back windshield was shattered like a piece of ice. The glass broke off into little shards all over the back of the car. Also, leaving me to drive my young daughter in the freezing cold. I had it repaired which they were able to fox the glass but not get all the shards out of the car. Yesterday, December 25l4, 2025 I went to my car which had been sitting in the garage for two days and the same thing occurred. There is glass all over my car and my garage. I have a young child and dog who could step on or touch the shards.

NHTSA #11707035

The rear window shattered. It is a safety issue because my window shattered as I was in a public parking lot and I had no idea. Also u had groceries in my trunk and now tiny pieces of glass was near my bags No but bulletin tsb 22-014 identified the issue

NHTSA #11706252

After work, While entering my vehicle and as i close the drivers side door; the rear windshield/window shattered randomly without external force.

NHTSA #11706015

The rear window shattered when the front passenger door was closed. Research confirms this is a known defect and has occurred with numerous other owners, even while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who refused to repair, stating my vehicle wasn't included in TSB 22-014. The vehicle VIN is included in TSB 22-014. The window was repaired out of pocket with another company. There was no warning. This occurred on 12/15/2025.

NHTSA #11705847

Car was in park and running idle and randomly the back windshield completely shattered. The car had been on for a while probably at least 20 minutes so it wasn’t that the window all of a sudden got really warm compared to the outside cold temperature. Had Safelite replaced the window, but there are still a bunch of shards of glass in the tailgate because that would have to be fully replaced in order to remove all those glass shards and there’s no other way to do it. This is apparently a very common issue on the Acura RDX and there is a Facebook group with many people having the same issue with the rear windshield randomly shattering for no reason whatsoever. It seems like Acura dealerships acknowledge this issue, but there has been no recall.

NHTSA #11706374

Rear Hatch Window shattered sitting in driveway. This is a known issue and tons of people have reported it. There is many groups on facebook documenting the issue.

NHTSA #11703461

The rear window shattered when bringing it in from the colder weather to a garage. There was no impact, nor was the rear door used. The car was brough to the garage from being outside at 9 pm on 12/1. When we got in the car on 12/2 at 11:30 am, the rear window was shattered. There is no evidence of forced entry, just shattered glass on the inside. The repair is going to cost $627 The car rental is around $80

NHTSA #11702601

I was just leaving from work to home as soon as I entered in my car, I saw a big hole in my rear windshield( back glass) and it seems like whole glass shattered.

NHTSA #11698410

1/2020 and 11/2025 rear window spontaneous broke / blew up while turning car on.

NHTSA #11697608

I was parked in a parking lot and went to put groceries in the back cargo area. I pushed the button to open my rear hatch, heard a plink sound as it was raising, looked and my entire rear windshield had shattered. This is a known issue - Acura even sent out a notice bulletin but supposedly will only fix it free of charge if the car is still under warranty. I don't believe I should have to pay to fix this = it is a reasonable expectation to believe your windshields won't spontaneously shatter when there is no contact whatsoever.

NHTSA #11688620

My back window blew out, without any cause. It was parked in my driveway on a 60 degree day. There is a known issue with the 2020 Acura RDX. There is even a service bulletin Acura issued to dealerships TSB 22-014. Acura dealership said was not covered under warranty and I would need to pay out of pocket

NHTSA #11686713

When I go to accelerate to pass another vehicle car completely shuts down stops running and all warning lights come on. Car is powerless in middle of making a pass which is very concerning have to coast to side of road putting me a perilous situation hoping I don't get hit head on before I can get off the road. Took car to dealer they said bad turbo so change turbo. Two weeks after repair started to pass another car and it did it again exactly like first time. Car is currently at dealer waiting on diagnosis. I feel like this is big safety issue and I don't feel safe driving car that constantly loses power when passing someone.

NHTSA #11685487

Parked in a restaurant parking lot, & upon leaving got into the car closed the door and the rear window just shattered. Car hadn’t been started yet & no previous damage had happened to the window. If I had been driving the car and the horrible noise it made I probably would’ve panicked and gone off the road.

NHTSA #11681212

When I closed my passenger door my rear windshield shattered

NHTSA #11681466

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a recurring and concerning design issue affecting the Acura RDX — specifically, a defect in the sunroof drainage system. Based on both personal experience and widespread consumer reports, it appears that the drainage channels are prone to clogging, which results in water accumulating and eventually leaking into the vehicle’s cabin and trunk areas. In my case, this defect has led to persistent water intrusion that has damaged the interior and raised serious concerns about mold and mildew development. Stagnant water inside a sealed vehicle can pose significant health and safety risks, especially for families and those who rely on their vehicles for daily transportation. Having the drains professionally cleared at the dealership costs approximately $300 per visit. I have been informed that this service will likely be required on a recurring basis, despite the fact that such maintenance is neither expected nor common for vehicle owners. This is especially troubling considering the cost exceeds routine maintenance like oil changes or tire rotations, and it addresses an issue resulting from design flaws — not misuse or neglect. I have contacted both the dealership and Honda/Acura customer service, only to be informed that there is no permanent solution. For a vehicle marketed as a premium product, this is a disappointing and financially unreasonable resolution. I respectfully urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to investigate this issue as a possible design defect that compromises vehicle safety and structural integrity. Given the volume of similar complaints found in consumer forums and online reviews, it is evident that this is not an isolated incident, but rather a widespread and systemic concern that warrants further scrutiny and potential corrective action. I also have a video of water gushing inside my car which I cannot upload and it’s unacceptable. Respectfully, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On 6/28/2025 My 2020 Acura RDX rear glass shattered!!!! totally shattered!!! for no reason! no chip! no damage! it just shattered!! the WHOLE rear glass was shattered!!!!

NHTSA #11672546

Rear window shattered sitting idle in the driveway. Acura told me replacing would be $1,107.00. To my knowledge they are aware of issue but not taking responsibility.

NHTSA #11655632

This was a spontaneous explosion of the rear lift gate window. The car was not even turned on; I had just gotten into it. There was a sound like a gunshot, followed by glass shattering both into and outside the car. I dropped immediately in the seat, and when I started breathing again, I got out of the car, and saw the window. Thanks to my grandson’s research, I now know this is, and has been, an issue with the Acura RDX. There. was absolutely no warning prior to this occurrence.

NHTSA #11657101

Rear window shattered while sitting parked.

NHTSA #11653258

The rear windshield of my car shattered by itself. The car had pieces of glass everywhere in the back. Acura is aware of an issue with this windshield in models RDX from 2019 to 2023. They sent a Technical Service Report (TSB 22-014) to their dealers asking to replace the windshield on these cases. We took the car to the dealer for inspection, and they took pictures showing that the car did not have any damage that could have created the problem, but they claim that Acura refuses to cover the repair anyways.

NHTSA #11647904

REAR WINDOW SHATTERED

NHTSA #11640133

The back window completely shattered, with shards of glass falling both in and out of the car. It is a known defect. It happened completely out of the blue. I don't understand why this isn't a recall. I also don't understand why I had to pay for a know defect. I'm grateful I was not on the highway when it happened. I was on my street but it was in a downpour.

NHTSA #11649213

Rear Windshield shattered just sitting in driveway. Did some research and found out Acura knows about this through TSB 22-014.

NHTSA #11639228

There is known issue where the rear glass will just randomly shatter. My car was parked and no one was near it. I came out to leave and I noticed the rear glass was shattered. This issue has been reported by thousands of other RDX owners. It’s absolutely insane that this isn’t recalled and covered by Acura. Additionally, it has been over a year and they still have not contacted me about the part to the fuel pump recall. They claim they don’t have the part in. It’s been over a year that I’ve been waiting.

NHTSA #11638668

The rear glass has shattered twice in February. First time January 2022 and second time February 2025. The vehicle has been parked when this incidentoccurred. Both occasions has been un winter conditions temperatures. As one can imagine, a shattered rear window isn’t just a minor inconvenience. The rear windshield is crucial for protecting passengers from outside elements and potential hazards during a drive. The first incident was handled by my auto insurance and a rework by the dealer at my cost The second incident Acura covered 75% of the cost while I was held responsible for the remaining 25% No warning were present prior to incident

NHTSA #11641581

This is the second time my back windshield has spontaneously crumbled! I’ve never had this to happen to any car I’ve ever owned. What is wrong with g with this vehicle. I’ve seen on you tube and til you that I am not the only owner this has happened.

NHTSA #11638476

Back window shattered.. Acura refused to cover the repair

NHTSA #11638435

The rear window has busted out on its own twice with glass everywhere. First time went through insurance second time I went through the dealer ship. I disappointed in Acura telling me there is nothing they can do to prevent this. It’s a defect in the car. It is dangerous and messy at my cost!

NHTSA #11638684

The rear windshield glass shattered without warning, due to a design flaw from the manufacturer.

NHTSA #11634969

Issue associated with existing TSB 22-014. Rear windshield glass spontaneously shattered when opening driver door. No other damaged to the glass prior, the car power was off as car had been sitting during work hours. Car was brought to local dealership and issue discussed with service team. It was escalated to service director, Dave. With the existing manufacturer warranty being expired as the vehicle has surpassed 4 years or 50,000 miles (51,153 miles) and having knowledge of the existing service bulletin he offered to submit a good faith claim without guarantee as no current recall has been established to this VIN. I called Acura Honda corporate to also report a good faith claim and opened a case number which will be dispatched to a case manager for further investigation. Meanwhile, I have no car and no guarantee for replacement or repair. I didn’t feel it was safe to be driving a vehicle with loose shattered glass and open air during winter rainy season having a toddler. I am left without a vehicle and need to consider alternatives due to this hazardous inconvenience.

NHTSA #11635303

Shut driver side door and the rear hatch glass shattered.

NHTSA #11633706

Rear window shattered while parked inside garage for no apparent reason

NHTSA #11632915

Upon opening rear hatch I noticed glass falling into trunk area, when closing hatch the window was shattered with no entry sign of foreign object. No branches, rocks or other foreign objects in parking space or around vehicle. Was parked in private home lot.

NHTSA #11630716

Closed passenger side front door and rear glass shattered. Car was not running.

NHTSA #11629562

Rear window shadowed due the defroster. The defroster is making the rear window break. When using the defroster it is making the rear window break into pieces.

NHTSA #11631787

The rear tailgate glass spontaneously shattered when the vehicle was parked/not operating with nothing hitting the back glass. The only operating change over the past two weeks prior to the shattering was regular morning use of the rear defroster. Rear tailgate was never slammed.

NHTSA #11625809

Rear window shattered with out incident. Car was off and in park. Nothing hit it to cause it to break

NHTSA #11632352

The “heads up display” on the windshield that shows the vehicle speed becomes blurry. This is a safety issue because a person can believe he is going a speed that is incorrect. This is particularly troubling when the vehicle is traveling at a much faster speed than appears on the windshield. In the past there was an incident where my vehicle was traveling 10 mph faster than I thought because of the blurred heads up display image. Acura/Honda is aware this is an issue (service bulletin 20-046) but has not taken action to correct the safety issue.

My car was parked and off at a local park, I loaded my [XXX] son in the backseat of the car and then I got into my car. Before even turning car on I heard a loud pop sound and got out to look around and then realized it was the back windshield shattering. Apparently this is a known issue with Acura where the rear windshield will spontaneously shattered for no reason. Safety wise this is a concern since I have a child in the back seat and glass is shattering into the car as well as outside on pavement . I am the owner of a 2020 Acura RDX. Approximately 64,000 miles. Car was parked in my driveway. My wife heard a loud bang. Back windshield shattered. Pieces of glass inside and outside the vehicle. The window had no prior dents or cracks.

NHTSA #11709752

On January 6, 2026, as I left my house and was driving to work, I heard a loud gunshot/explosion sound. The trunk window had a whole and it started to shatter. The window completely shattered and fell. No evidence of a rock hitting the window was present. The temperature was 45 degrees. The coldness was not an issue, as this car has been in below 0 degree weather. I called Acura dealership. They told me they had never heard of this issue and didn’t offer to inspect the vehicle. I had to find a fix outside of Acura. No warning lights or prior failure issues with windows. The defroster was not on either.

NHTSA #11709164

My rear windshield spontaneously shattered with me sitting in my driver's seat in a parking lot. I just started my car, put on my seat belt when I heard this loud noise and saw the rear windshield shattered. I found no object in my car that could have caused the problem like a rock.

NHTSA #11707130

The whole rear glass unexpectantly shattered. My Car was parked in the driveway and I found it this way later in the day. The whole rear hatchback glass was shattered everywhere. Glass pieces were starting to fall inside. I called the my local Acura dealer Bobby Rahal and they said this was problem with the RDX but Acura was not covering them. He said there is a TSB tech. service bulletin. This is a very dangerous defect that needs to be recalled.

NHTSA #11707816

I was leaving noticed I could not see out of back windshield. Thought it was ice and put on the defroster. Went to scrape ice and noticed the windshield was shattered in pieces. Did not see any object around vehicle that could have hit or fell on it yo cause damage.

NHTSA #11706365

While entering the vehicle in the parking lock, I closed the driver door and the rear view mirror shattered completely on it own.

NHTSA #11706459

Rear windshield shattered while parked. There was no accident/impact. Just spontaneously shattered.

NHTSA #11706270

Drove vehicle to work in the morning and had the front and rear defroster on (they turned on automatically due to exterior temperatures when I used autostart on my AcuraLink app). When I got to work, I parked my vehicle and had no issues at that point. But, in the afternoon when I came out to my car the rear window had spontaneously combusted. There were no obvious signs of damage, nothing on the ground that would have fallen, and nothing around. When I got home I did some searching and found that Acura is aware of this issue and had issued a TSB to fix the windows, but that they are no longer doing so under warranty. The TSB is related to the window defogger, which can apparently malfunction and overheat, causing thermal contraction/expansion to break the glass. I had glass all over the inside of my car. Imagine if I were driving it and it exploded, it could have harmed me or worse - I could have been so surprised/startled that I swerved and wrecked, possibly harming others as well. This is a disaster. There's no recall on this? There's no requirement to continue to fix a well-known problem spanning several years (2019-2023 I believe)? They are just replacing the window and apparently, some of the windows being used still have the defective defogger. I'm lucky to be alive and typing this.

Spontaneous rear tailgate shattered glass while parked. Yes, available for inspection. If I had driven the vehicle off the lot, I could have had flying glass to the vehicle behind me. Yes, the vehicle was immediately taken into the dealership & awaiting repairs. Vehicle has been inspected by Acura dealer. No, there were no signs of the problem prior to failure.

On November 22, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., I visited Chandler Mall and remained there for about an hour and a half. When I returned to my vehicle and began backing out of the parking space, I noticed that my rear window was completely shattered. I immediately put the car back in park and got out to inspect the damage. Pieces of glass along the edges of the window were continuing to fall. There were no signs of vandalism—no rocks, objects, or visible fingerprints. I filed a report to determine whether security cameras may have captured any incident that could have caused the rear windshield to break, but so far no suspects have been identified. I am now waiting for the replacement part and an installation appointment with Safelite. Based on others’ experiences, some people have reported hearing loose glass inside the trunk door after similar issues, which is discouraging. I am hoping to have the rear windshield replaced without further problems or risk of future shattering.

While my wife was driving on the highway going about 50mph, the rear window suddenly shattered without any apparent cause, startling her. Fortunately, she didn't yank on the steering wheel and was able to pull over safely. After conducting some research, I discovered that this is a known issue affecting 2019–2023 Acura RDX models and is currently the subject of a pending class action lawsuit. The window was inspected and will be replaced by our car insurance.

My back window on my 2020 Acura RDX shattered while it was parked at school. When I opened my passenger door to put my backpack in, I heard some cracking. I walked around the front of my car and when I opened my driver's side door, I heard and saw the back window glass falling inside and outside of my car. I viewed the cameras at school and could tell the glass had cracked earlier, but believe the hole in the glass occurred from a combination of the pressure change opening my door and the vibration from shutting the door. One of my fellow teachers who came out while I was looking at the damage searched online and discovered it is a known problem for my year and model car. I called the service department at my local Acura dealership and immediately drove there. The service tech told me that he believed it would be covered since it is a known issue although my car is out of warranty. Acura posted a Service Bulletin (22-014) on October 28, 2022 that includes the VIN of my car in the affected vehicles. The bulletin states that the rear glass can shatter or break with no external impact due to incorrect specification of the rear defroster grid. The service manager called me the next afternoon to tell me he spoke to an Acura rep and they would only cover half. I am responsible for paying almost $400 to repair my back window that Acura knows is a safety issue to break since there has not been an official recall. It is not safe to operate a vehicle with a broken back window, in addition to the issues of weather exposure and not being able to secure the vehicle from others being able to access it. This repair should be covered by Acura since they are clearly aware of this issue and my car was included in the affected vehicles, even though my car is not under warranty anymore. Windows breaking are a safety issue and should be covered by the manufacturer due to their negligence.

Rear window randomly shattered. I was just sitting at a red light and it shattered. Nothing hit it or damaged it. I read online this is a reoccurring problem others have experienced with 2019 models and newer. This needs to be addressed. If I was going down the road this could have caused an accident.

NHTSA #11636603

The rear windshield glass shattered while the car was parked in an open area. There wasn't an impact incident of any type. Acura is aware of the issue on this model of RDX (there's a service bulletin) but is refusing to cover the repair out of warranty. I know hundreds of owners have already filed complaints but wanted to add our incident as well.

The rear windshield completely shattered after getting in the vehicle and shutting the drivers side door. The vehicle was off and not in motion. There were no warnings, or other symptoms or any other indicators that this was a faulty windshield. The weather has been below freezing for the last 4 days. The problem has not been confirmed or reproduced nor inspected as this just happened and was unexpected. Thankfully the vehicle was off, however this could have impacted my safety and those around me if I had been driving.

My windshield completely shattered while parked out of no where. This could’ve been a huge safety hazard if I was driving or had my children in the car. I am very disappointed to see this is very common for other RDX owners when it is such a hazardous situations for many! This needs to be recalled!! I called an Acura dealership immediately and they acknowledged that this is a known issue with Acura RDXs, but since there’s no recall and my warranty ended, they refused to help fix the issue. Went to a local auto shop and they also pointed out this has been a common issue with Acura RDXs. This is extremely dangerous and unsafe for drivers and passengers.

The back window shattered in January of 2024 and again today 12/19/24. Both incidents happened after i started the car in my garage. It was a loud pop and the entire windshield shattered. I wasn't aware that Acura had a technical service bulletin (TSB 22-014). When I called the dealership to explain what happened and that I wasn't aware there was an issue until I saw it the internet and they told me that since the window had already been repaired once and it wasn't the original that they had to have it inspected and I had send pictures before they would tell my if they would pay to replace the part that is causing the issue.

My vehicle was parked overnight and when I went to go to work this morning, I found my rear window glass shattered. There is evidence of vandalism for all my doors were locked, and everything was present inside as well as no form of any external impact before I park inside the garage or nothing falls from the ceiling. It is a common problem known for the third generation Acura RDX, where the rear class window spontaneously shatters. This is definitely a safety hazard for it can happen when driving on the road and diminishing rear window visibility.

NHTSA #11631261

NHTSA #11630253

While driving my car in Albany New York on December 3 roughly about 15 minutes after starting the car and continuing onto a residential road the back window, spontaneously shattered without impact. The rear window defroster had been on at the time and had just cleared the frost before the drive had started. Not only did the window break a portion of the window fell into the trunk of the car and the rest of the window completely shattered into a little pieces that it was not possible to see outside of the back window. The sound of the breaking glass was so loud. It sounded as if snow was falling off the top of the car, but NO snow was present that day. The loud noise along with the lack of visibility caused issues with operating the vehicle and bringing it into a safe parking spot that was off of the road

NHTSA #11629999

The rear window exploded it is said to be a defroster on the rear windshield. And no While I was parked when I watched the glass exploded if I was driving the exploded could have shocked me and glass shatters feel inside the car that could potential cause cuts, Acura and private company’s have acknowledge the problem. Yes when it was replaced, there suggestion was the bring down the windows while warming up the car so that the glass temperature won’t change as fast. No worry just exploded

My rear dashcam shows evidence that the windshield shattered with nobody in or around the car. I spoke with police officers who reviewed security footage in the parking lot; they confirmed that the damage was not an act of vandalism and happened spontaneously. I have read online about numerous complaints of this issue and the current class action lawsuit against Acura/Honda for this problem.

On Saturday, November 8th, 2024, I walked out to my vehicle, rear windshield intact, no damages, start my car, and turned on the rear-defroster. 20 seconds later, I hear cracking, as I am about to pull out, and to my surprise, my entire rear windshield is cracking and making popping noises. I put my car in park, and the entire windshield is crumbling and shattering before my eyes. There was absolutely NO impact whatsoever. I then, contacted the dealer, and dealer asked me to drive to the dealership, which is 10 miles away, while glass is falling into my trunk area, and flying out onto the highway. The dealer put me in a loaner until they heard from the warranty department. My car is 4,000 miles out of warranty, but they were still going to see what they could do. It has been five business days now, as today is November 15th, 2024, and I have still yet to receive an answer. I have not received information if my vehicle has even been inspected by the dealership. There were no warning lights, messages, or any issues with the vehicle. I take care of the vehicle directly through the dealership, where I purchased the vehicle from and should show all of that on the CarFax. I have, however, found several open lawsuits where claimants are filing cases against Acura for a faulty rear windshield. Please advise!!!!

I entered my 2020 Acura RDX after it was parked for several hours while I was at work. The outdoor temperature was around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Upon closing the drivers door I hear a crashing noice and noticed the rear lift gate glass shattered and fell into the rear cargo area. This appears to be a very widespread issue with this make and model and is a serious safety concern that should be recalled.

NHTSA #11618283

Rear window shattered when the front passenger door was closed. The car was sitting in the driveway and there was no external impact. Acura issued TSB 22-014 for a known defect ("incorrect specification for rear defroster grid') but is only replacing windows for cars still under warranty. This is a safety issue and deserves a proper recall.

The rear glass in my 2020 Acura RDX Aspec randomly shattered when I closed my rear driver side door. My car was not running and hadn’t been running for over a hour and there were no signs of impact to the glass. There is a TSB from Honda about this being an issue already. I bought the car used and have owned it for a year. My extended warranty doesn’t cover the rear glass. It was going to cost over $1000 to fix as the dealership would not cover the cost and my car is out of its factory warranty. Didn’t have much choice but to use Safelite. Now there are glass shards stuck in my tailgate and apparently no way to remove them without removing the glass from the tailgate and removing the tailgate from the vehicle. Other complaints show that this can also happen while the car is running and in motion which seems like a major safety concern. With the glass shards stuck in the tailgate my car has been devalued by no fault of own. Honda knows this is an issue but will not issue a recall and it could also be a safety issue.

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting a vehicle safety defect complaint regarding my 2020 Acura RDX. The rear window of my vehicle suddenly shattered without any impact, collision, road debris, or external force. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was stationary. There was no warning or visible damage prior to failure. The glass shattered unexpectedly, creating a dangerous condition and risk of injury. I was required to file an insurance claim and have the rear window replaced. I am concerned this may indicate a defect in the glass, manufacturing process, or vehicle structure. I request that NHTSA review this incident, determine whether similar failures have been reported, and evaluate whether this represents a safety-related defect requiring investigation or recall. I can provide photographs, repair invoices, VIN, mileage, and additional documentation upon request. Sincerely, Joyce Burnett Phone: 757-636-6167 (Mobile) VIN: 5J8TC1H57LL013150

I am submitting this formal complaint to report a recurring safety issue with my vehicle, a 2020 Acura RDX. Specifically, the rear window glass has unexpectedly shattered on two separate occasions without any apparent cause or external interference. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The rear window glass is the component that failed, and it is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The sudden shattering of the rear window glass posed a significant safety risk. Broken glass could have flown into my eyes or injured anyone near the vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, Acura is aware of this issue as it has been reported by other owners of similar models. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The police have inspected the vehicle following the incidents. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. To provide more context: The first incident occurred during cold, snowy weather, which I initially suspected might be a contributing factor. However, the second incident took place during moderate weather conditions, eliminating extreme temperatures as a possible cause. Both times, the vehicle was stationary while I was inside my workplace, and surveillance footage confirmed that no individuals or external factors were near the vehicle. After researching this issue, I found that other Acura RDX owners, particularly models from 2019-2024, have experienced similar occurrences of rear window glass shattering without cause. Despite this, Acura has not issued a recall or provided guidance on resolving the issue. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter

Re: NHTA recall 23V-858 This particular recall has been active since 12-18-2023. I have checked with my local dealership, Scanlon Acura in Ft Myers, FL, to arrange for a repair several times. Each time I have been told that they do not have the part. On Friday, 12-6-2024, a spoke to a service representative at the dealership. He advised me that they did have the part and scheduled an appointment to replace the defective part on Monday, 12-9-2024. When I arrived at the dealership, I was told that they did not have the part. Something is not right here. I suspect that the dealership does not want to replace the part because it is time-consuming, expensive, and represents an action where they do not receive enough compensation. This recall has been active for nearly a year, and NHTSA should intervene to expedite this process in order to prevent possible car crashes and injuries.

My 2020 Acura RDX is currently non-operational due to a failure of the fuel pump, which is the subject of NHTSA Recall 23V-858. The vehicle suffered a complete loss of power and will not start, posing a significant safety risk should this have occurred while in motion. Despite contacting Acura Client Relations over 30 days ago, no remedy has been provided. My Case Manager states they are unable to offer a solution other than waiting for a "Territory Manager" to make contact—an event that has yet to occur. My vehicle has now been completely disabled for over two weeks. Because I reside in the [XXX] , the manufacturer claims they cannot service the vehicle due to a lack of a local franchise dealership. However, as a [XXX] territory, federal safety mandates apply. Acura has refused to authorize a local certified mechanic to perform the repair or ship the necessary parts to rectify this safety defect in a reasonable timeframe. The manufacturer is effectively denying a federally mandated safety remedy based on geographic location, leaving me with a non-operational, hazardous vehicle and no timeline for repair. The contact owns a 2020 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle the vehicle failed to start as intended. The vehicle returned to normal functionality but the failure reoccurred. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); the VIN was included but the remedy was not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Suspension2 quejas

2020 Acura RDX Rear Coil Spring snapped in half on left side. Safety concern drove to nearest independent service center to be accessed within 5 miles of incident. Advised not to drive it. Called Acura Dealership. Advised to replace both Left and Right side and have new alignment. No warning lights or other symptoms, just an extremely loud bang to left side while driving. Estimated out-of-pocket expenses: Rear coil springs (both) 600 parts/labor Alignment required 100 Total 700 unless goodwill applies (Acura quoted and independent matched prices (allowing me not to have it towed 15 miles to dealership) This is a corrosion related rear coil spring failure at 72,000 miles in Ohio. I’m asking Acura to consider goodwill assistance because this appears premature for a critical suspension component.” Please open a good will case with Acura Tech Line/Client Relations based on: Safety-related failure (suspension spring) Salt-belt state (Ohio — well known for corrosion issues) Reasonable mileage (72,000 miles is not excessive for a structural suspension part) Dealer acknowledged the issue (they quoted it and advised not to drive) No abuse or impact damage (no tire damage, single spring corrosion failure)

Lower control arm rubs against subframe. Makes noise as going over bumps. Acura has a service bulletin, 20-025, from June 19, 2020 identifying issue. Issue told to tech in past but was identified. Now identified at 66,881 on car out of warranty but Acura will not cover. Rubbing seems like safety issue over time

Power Train2 quejas

Powertrain failed in 2020 Acura RDX Tech Pkg AWD. Only 2 weeks after the 6 year warranty expired on the vehicle the powertrain failed and set off the check engine light. Dealer service department found an excessive amount of shavings in the plug. The vehicle only had 41,345 miles on it before transmission/powertrain failed and there was only 1 owner for the vehicle. It was purchased brand new from the dealer and vehicle was well-maintained.

Under full throttle acceleration while merging onto highway the car would not deliver power and the check engine started flashing. Pressing the accelerator did not make the car go. I had to pull over and stop the car. I turned it off and turned it back on and was able to drive away. Both times, the weather was very humid and I was merging on a ramp that had an uphill incline. This happened twice within a few days. The first time was on 3-MAY-2025 and the second time was on 5-MAY-2025

Forward Collision Avoidance2 quejas

System warning light stating Electronic Parking Brake Error, that the system would not engage and to contact a dealership.

NHTSA #11719630

The car was just purchased Turning left going about 5 to 10mph in a 25 mph zone it hit the brakes. Then about 100 yrds later at a stop light, the car was turning left with traffic going onto a 45mph road. It slammed on the brakes, saying "brake", on the Display, causing whiplash, and almost a major accident. After calling Acura, they mentioned these driver assistance systems were tied into cruise control. When the car was tested on the highway a couple days before and used cruise control, the collision and another warning system were faulty. It said "sensor is covered or..." I do not remember the 2nd part. They specifically said if these systems are problematic with warning lights, you should not use cruise control. These cars should not be on the road. No shortage of people complaining about this online.

Air Bags2 quejas

Since we bought the vehicle in 2019, the passenger-side seat sensor didn't always go off when occupied. We asked the dealership to check it out in 2020 or 2021, however, due to the problem being inconsistent it couldn't be fixed. The inconsistency of the seat sensor has continued though the years, but lately, it has become more frequent. I am the usual occupant on the passenger side and I weigh 113 lbs. I recently spoke with the dealer service department after I saw the recall; however, the recall does not apply to our VIN.

My wife weighs about 125 pounds. When she sits in the front passenger seat of this car, often (but not always) an indicator will light up on the dashboard, saying "Passenger Air Bag OFF." Even if she shifts around in the seat or bounces up and down, the indicator light will stay on. I have taken the car to my local Acura dealer twice, asking that this problem be diagnosed and fixed. The first time their service technician reported "No issues at this time. Unable to duplicate concern at this time." The second time (today), the technician reported that he had "checked system for codes, no codes in system. Light will go on and off if passenger moves around in seat." I remain quite concerned that this un-repaired problem is a significant safety issue, as the indicator light appears to be saying that the airbag won't deploy in a collision.

Electrical System,Engine1 queja

While in traffic and stopped at a light, the engine stalled and completely shut down all of a sudden. I had to restart the car and was able to drive home. The engine stalled while in traffic with two other passengers in the car and during a time with other vehicles on the road. The car stalled shortly after turning a corner and other cars potentially rear ending my car due to a sudden stalling. I’m on the way to the dealership where I purchased the 2020 Acura RDX AWD brand new for a check up. The vehicle has not yet been checked by anyone but will be later today. When the car stalled, there were no warning lamps or messages. This was the first time happening but the electrical system has turned off unexpectedly before. I’ve brought the car back to the dealership for the electrical system and it was previously repaired. The new problem includes the electrical system outage plus engine stalling during traffic. Very scary and unacceptable for any car.

Electrical System,Unknown Or Other1 queja

One day last December it rained very hard for a couple of days. It about 6:30pm I got in my car to go to an appointment. There was water inside the cab, on the seats, inside of the windshield, in the dashboard and controls... and about 4 inches of water on the floor on both passenger and driver side. When I tried to start the car, all the electrical systems went haywire. Everything was blinking at me in the dashboard many different warnings and hazard lights. I took the car to the dealership for service. I was by service department told that drainage lines on the top where the sun visor is were clogged up and the water had backed up into the vehicle. This was no fault of my own. I have maintained this automobile with Acura only for 6 years, since I purchased it. This is serious, even though it was resolved by clearing the lines but the damage to the electrical system were extensive. Now that the lines are cleared who's to say this will not happen again? Will my car flood again someday? I believe this to be a design flaw and should be corrected by Acura as a possible. I believe it should be a recall, it could affect the safety of the driver and passengers. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Electrical System,Exterior Lighting1 queja

October 30th 6pm, parked car at home and exterior lights (headlights, fog lights, rear lights) would not turn off. Car was not running. Lights finally went off when battery was completely drained. Had to jump battery to get car to dealership on October 31st. There were no previous warning lamps or messages. Dealership did a complete reinspect and were able to reproduce issue. Dealership determined that there was a leak in the sunroof. I then shared that the sunroof had been rattling and popping for a few weeks, but did not mention when dropping off for the lights since I didn't think it was related. I have spoken to Honda who states that this VIN does not have any recalls. There are known issues with the sunroofs for this year and make of car, but no recalls and the extended warranty as well as the 'certified car' warranty does not cover this issue.
