Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

NHTSA #23V393000

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Land Rover Discovery vehicles. The UniLatch Keyless Vehicle (KV) entry function may fail to properly latch the rear passenger doors, which can result in the doors opening while driving. In addition, the instrument cluster open-door warning light may fail to alert the driver of this condition.

Reported consequence: Rear passenger doors that open while driving can increase the risk of a crash. An instrument cluster warning light that fails to alert the driver about unsecured doors can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will disable the UniLatch Keyless Vehicle (KV) entry function, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2023. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N798.

ENGINE

NHTSA #19V040000

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2019 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Discovery vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with V6 or V8 engines whose crankshaft pulley retaining bolt may fracture possibly resulting in engine failure.

Reported consequence: Engine failure can increase the risk of crash.

Remedy: Land Rover has notified owners, and dealers will replace the crankshaft pulley center retaining bolt, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2019. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N276.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE

NHTSA #21V117000

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery, and Range Rover Velar vehicles. The Auto High Beam (AHB) system does not indicate through the instrument cluster when the high beams are illuminated automatically. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Reported consequence: The driver may be unaware that the high beams are illuminated, reducing visibility for oncoming traffic, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. The recall began April 7, 2021. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N556.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY

NHTSA #20V694000

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Discovery vehicles. A loose contact between the battery ground stud and the chassis may result in various electrical faults, possibly causing a loss of electrical power or the vehicle to shut down while driving.

Reported consequence: If the vehicle shuts down or loses exterior lighting while driving there could be an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ground stud, free of charge. The recall began December 17, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000. Land Rover's number for this recall is N400.

Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Electrical System7 complaints

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The gearbox failure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle decelerated, and the steering wheel seized. The contact stated there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V694000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,489.

NHTSA #11733960

The car would not respond, yet the battery was charged. Our local auto shop identified the issue as an electrical malfunction in which the entire driver's side was affected, meaning the lights nor car would turn on or activate in any way.

NHTSA #11733653

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing electrical failures. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to start or unlock, requiring the owner to manually unlock the vehicle with the key. Tand and exterior lights independently flashed while the vehicle was parked in the middle of the night. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the AC condenser was leaking on the tow hitch cable, shorting out the electrical system. The dealer performed an unknown repair; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

The car will go dead. Had battery replaced at dealer on 5-28-22. 2 days later the car was dead and will not start. After messing with the negative cable where it’s connected to the chassis was able to start the car. After the car was running for about a minute the negative cable was very hot to the touch. This has been an ongoing problem with this car. After see other recalls for this battery cable issue am afraid the car could die while driving it. Our VIN is not associated with any recall. We feel the car is unsafe to drive and can also leave was stranded.

NHTSA #11466722

Engine is shaking and no power at all

NHTSA #11739915

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and an odd noise was heard. Although the vehicle was able to restart, it knocked and shook very hard, rendering it no longer drivable. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V040000 (ENGINE) however, the VIN was not included in the recall repair. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000.

NHTSA #11740149

On May 18, 2024 at approximately 4pm, my husband turned on my 2019 Land Rover Discovery from a cold start after sitting parked for about 20 minutes. We heard a slight rattle upon start-up, so he turned the car ignition off. He restarted the car after about a minute and we did not hear the rattle. We began driving the car and after about 2-3 miles, the car started shuddering and began slowing down but did not completely stall. My husband turned off the car again and we waited for a couple of minutes and he restarted the car. It drove fine for about a mile and began shuddering/hesitating again as we were driving. Then the car made a loud warning sound, a warning light flickered on the dash and the engine completely turned off as we were driving. We were in the middle of traffic and had we been on the freeway, there would have been catastrophic consequences as the engine completely stopped. We thankfully were able to coast to a side-street on our immediate right and stopped. The engine would not turn over and my husband was unable to restart the car. I immediately made an appointment with my local Land Rover dealership for 3 days later (next available) and had the truck towed there. After inspection, they told me they believed the main bearing in the engine failed due to an oil pump failure and that the engine would need to be replaced. My truck is 5 years old and has less than 100,000 miles (only about 80K). No previous warning lights! A car this expensive and with so few miles with regular maintenance service being performed by either Land Rover or AAA, shouldn’t need a new engine. This is after I’d had the camshaft adjuster/timing chain replaced in this truck by the same dealership only 3 months prior! After speaking to the service person, he informed me that 2 other Land Rovers were sitting in the dealership waiting for the SAME engine and waiting for 4-5 months to be delivered from the manufacturer with NO ETA! Known, dangerous problem! Please help resolve!

This vehicle is mostly garaged when not on the road and has approximately 33,800 miles on it. On 12/19/2025 I parked the car in a lot while I went to an appointment in Allendale, NJ. It rained fairly heavily. About an hour later I returned to my vehicle and found water dripping down the inside of the left side of the front windshield and mirror over and onto the steering wheel and housing, and onto the dashboard. I immediately wiped the water up and drove to my Land Rover dealer in Paramus, NJ where the car had been purchased new in 2019. An appointment was made for 2 weeks later. I was told there were other incidents of windshield leaks in the model (and possibly other LR Products) and they said they couldn't do temporary fixes and either windshield had to be replaced or possible fix w/o replacement. I recently found on line various incidents reported of windshield leaks some of which damaged electrical connections that caused driving and safety hazards. Also found Lemon Law case advertisement (2024?) about this type of damage. Significantly, found online 3/23/2020 LR “Service Action N221 Windshield Water” re 2018 Discovery & 2015-2018 Evoque, See attached. My local auto body shop put on temporary tape to mitigate leak until fixed. Have been driving for many years & owned numerous cars over that time. I never saw or heard of such a leak. For this to happen out of the blue in my view in a well maintained car that looks brand new is a manufacturing defect that the manufacturer should be responsible for beyond any warranty without the need for litigation, as well as a safety and driving hazard that should not occur.

NHTSA #11707362

Vehicle was taken to dealership for turning off while driving. While at the dealership the truck developed a windshield leak. Land rover discovery has a known issue with the windshield leaking. Windshield was replaced in 2021; I was not the owner at that time. In December 2025 the dealer discovered the leak and did not repair it knowing that these vehicles are known for water leaking and causing electrical damage.

NHTSA #11741414

Electrical System,Air Bags,Visibility/Wiper2 complaints

This is a report of a Failed Remedy for Safety Recall N321 (Recall #19V293). Records confirm that this vehicle had the recall repair performed on 12/09/2020. That repair has now failed. A certified technician at the dealership has confirmed via video that the windshield bond has detached, leading to significant water intrusion. This flooding has ruined safety-related electronic modules (cameras/audio) and caused significant mold growth in the interior, which is a biohazard health hazard. The manufacturer is admitting the failure but is refusing to provide a 100% covered remedy for this failed safety recall, offering only a 40% 'goodwill' contribution. The vehicle is currently dismantled and unsafe to drive. A failed windshield bond compromises the structural integrity of the vehicle in a rollover and prevents the proper deployment of the passenger airbag. Furthermore, the active electrical failures in the safety-related camera systems and the respiratory risk from mold growth make the vehicle unsafe for occupancy Technician Diagnosis Summary Technician Name: Skyler (Jaguar/Land Rover Certified) Date of Diagnosis: March 23, 2026.Dealership: Land Rover Parsippany, NJ Key Findings from Skyler's Video: Direct Admission of Failure: "So what we have going on is the windshield is leaking. The windshield is leaking so we’re going to have to get the windshield resealed for you." Extent of Water Damage: "Inspect the carpets and they are very wet all the way around on the vehicle... the vehicle does have like a mildewy smell." Safety/Electrical Failure: "Initially when I pulled the vehicle in, the surround sound cameras were not working... it's possible that one of the modules had water in I opened a case with Land Rover Corporate (Case #[XXX]), which they have since closed after refusing to provide a 100% covered remedy for this safety failure. They offered only a partial 40% 'goodwill' contribution and refused further assistance despite the confirmed safety hazard. NHTSA #11733761

The windshield seal failed at the top of the windshield, allowing significant water intrusion into the vehicle cabin. The windshield had previously been replaced under a manufacturer recall/service action, but that repair failed. Water intrusion caused failure of the Occupant Restraint Control Module (RCM), impairing airbag system functionality. Water also damaged the audio amplifier and other electronic components. Interior flooring and insulation are saturated and require removal and remediation. The defect was confirmed by an authorized Land Rover dealer, who identified the source of the leak as a defective windshield seal. Warning messages related to vehicle systems appeared after the water intrusion was discovered. The vehicle is no longer safe to operate due to compromised safety systems. This is the second Land Rover Discovery I have owned that has experienced catastrophic windshield sealing failure resulting in extensive water damage. The manufacturer declined responsibility and advised filing an insurance claim.

NHTSA #11706250

Vehicle Speed Control,Unknown Or Other2 complaints

The Land Rover Discovery was in "reverse". Not aware that the vehicle was in reverse, the car door was opened and the driver started to step out of the car. At a high rate of speed (approximately 5-7 MPH), the vehicle automatically accelerated in reverse, the open car door hit the garage track and ripped the driver side door off. the vehicle continued in reverse and slammed into an neighbor's structure. With the car door opened, like many other cars, the car should not have moved. with the driver not sitting in the seat, the car should not have moved. the high rate of acceleration was an additional issue, whether that waas software related or not is unknown. The driver side door was hanging by the electronics and the vehicle is still being accessed but the "A" frame is suspected to be bent.

Allegedly reported: 1 injury (as reported to NHTSA). NHTSA #11694266

The vehicle was left in Reverse. the driver started to exit the car, the vehicle went in reverse, ripped off teh car door on the garage siding, bent teh "A" frame and continue in reverse slamming into a neighbors structure

Allegedly reported: 1 injury (as reported to NHTSA). NHTSA #11695203

Latches/Locks/Linkages2 complaints

The hood will not open due to a faulty cable. Land Rover issued a TSB - LTB01208NAS4 for years 2017-2018. I have a 2019 with the same issue. Dealer refused to perform the TSB, despite me having the same issue. Uploading the TSB from prior NHTSA complaints. Please help.

NHTSA #11670481

The door latch on the rear right of the car failed while driving, Door wouldn't close, My 8 year old son sits on that side for school runs. This was replaced under the recall but it failed again. Also I've had 2 window regulators go in this vehicle apparently it's a common problem window would not go up or down.

Electrical System,Latches/Locks/Linkages2 complaints

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear passenger’s side door opened unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact she had to pay for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V393000 (Electrical System, Lock/Latches/ Linkages) for which the VIN was included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

NHTSA #11536987

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Door Ajar" message was displayed. The contact stated that her daughter was seated in the rear seat when the rear driver's side door inadvertently opened while driving. The contact was able to close the rear driver's side door; however, the failure recurred, and the rear driver's side door failed to latch. The contact's husband secured the rear driver's door with a ratchet strap to prevent the door from opening. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear driver's side door latch was internally faulty, and the rear driver's side door latch was replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V393000 (Electrical System, Latches, Locks, and Linkages); however, the contact had not received the recall notification. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

NHTSA #11535670

Power Train,Electrical System,Engine1 complaint

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that when attempting to back out of a parking space, the shifter was moved to reverse; however, the shifter failed to release from reverse. The vehicle was shut off, then restarted to reset the transmission, and at which time the shifter was able to be moved. The next day, while driving at highway speeds of approximately 55 MPH, entering on an on-ramp, the vehicle began to lose power and suddenly decelerate, then the vehicle shifted to neutral. The contact coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced and there were failures with the gearbox and other computer systems. The vehicle was repaired. The next morning, the shifter failure and start failure occurred again. The next day, the instrument panel began to illuminate the messages, "Proceed With Caution" and "Gearbox Fault Detected." The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) would black out, restart, and black out again. The failure would occur while idle, at which time they would have to place the vehicle in park, shut off, then restart it. The vehicle returned to their home and parked. The contact completed some research and found their experienced failure related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V248000 (Electrical System); however, their VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the issue. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

Electrical System,Wheels,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

Windshield replaced three times faulty seal, tires defected fell apart within two years less than 10,000 miles on vehicle

NHTSA #11554152

Steering1 complaint

Suddenly, one morning on my way to work the steering became extremely heavy and the handling became very dull. The steering wheel still turned the wheels, but it required a vast amount of effort where the previous day the steering wheel could have been turned with one finger. There were no noises coming from the steering column, or warning lights associated with the defect. No smells associated with friction from parts rubbing together, either. Totally silent. I consulted the manual and no mention was made re: what was happening. It had advised to call an authorized dealer to have it inspected. A trip to the dealership confirmed that the steering gear assembly (a $5,000 part) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership did not make mention of this issue being common, or even having happened recently with a similar model/year. There is almost no power assistance coming through the steering, and I am worried about what could happen as a result. Perhaps the steering itself will become impossible? The dealer was uncertain as to whether it posed a greater issue or was just "an annoyance".

NHTSA #11471022

Visibility/Wiper1 complaint

The vehicle leaks water from the top, middle and top right (passenger) of the windshield. Whenever it's raining water drips down the inside of the windshield and falls on the dash. in the mornings, after heavy rains, water can be found on the drivers and passengers seat, as well as in the cupholders this waterfalls all over the central electronic system and navigation, and seems only a matter of time before these systems will fail as well. When reporting it to the dealer, the dealer mentioned that this has been a common problem for this generation discovery, however, are not willing to replace the windshield under warranty.

NHTSA #11572528

Structure1 complaint

On two separate occasions, the rear door latch failed on this vehicle, resulting in the door opening unexpectedly while in motion. First incident, Left Rear Door, occurred Sept 17, 2020. The second incident, Right Rear door, happened May 15, 2021. Had anyone been sitting in the rear seats at that time, they would have been at risk of falling out of the vehicle. Both incidents were confirmed and repaired by the dealer. (see attached invoices) In both cases, the door stayed closed just enough such that the open door warning on the dash did not illuminate.

ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING MY LAND ROVER DISCOVERY I NOTICED THERE WAS A LAG TIME WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN MAKING A TURN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY UPDATING THE SYSTEM. THEY UPDATED IT BUT IT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE LAG ISSUE SO I COMPLAINED AGAIN AND THEY SAID IT'S THE NATURE OF THE CAR. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO SAY IT'S AN ISSUE WITH CAR. I ALSO HAVE HAD OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE NAVIGATION SCREEN GOING BLANK WHILE DRIVING OR NOT COMING ON AT ALL AND ALSO MY REMOTE KEY FOBS DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. EVEN WITH THE REMOTES IN MY HAND NEAR THE CONSOLE THE CAR WILL SAY THEY ARE NOT DETECTED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE FINE. TODAY, I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM LAND ROVER STATING THERE ARE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH CAR WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD CUT OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND MAY LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THEY ARE BOOKED OUT FOR 3 WEEKS SO I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE CAR. I THINK IT'S VERY IRRESPONSIBLE OF LAND ROVER TO PUT OWNERS IN A POSITION TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR. THESE CARS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD.

THERE'S A WATER-PROOFING DEFECT WITH THE DISCOVERY LAND ROVER (AT LEAST 2017-2019). I PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED NEW A 2017 DISCOVERY NEW, AND WATER ENTERED FROM THE ROOF AND WINDSHIELD AND THE DEALER REPLACED IT WITH A 2019. SAME ISSUE IS OCCURRING - WITH RAIN WATER ENTERING FROM WINDSHIELD AND ROOF AND FLOODING INTERIOR OF CAR. APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING THAT CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES AS WATER IS LITERALLY DRIPPING ON THE DRIVER AND FRONT INTERIOR WHILE I DRIVE THE CAR.

BOUGHT CAR LAST MAY, 2019, AND WITHIN FOUR MONTHS WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. WATER GOT INSIDE MY VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WITH WATER EVERYWHERE INSIDE, INCLUDING THE DASHBOARD, SCREEN AND MAIN CONSOLE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS FROM THE WINDOW RECALLS, BUT MINE NEVER WAS RECALLED. THEY SAID THE SEALS WHERE FAULTY. FAULTY ENGINE O2 SENSOR (THREE FAULTY CODES) RIGHT WHEN I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM MY WINDSHIELD REPAIR. TURNED AROUND AND DROPPED CAR BACK OFF. CAMERA SYSTEM FAULT MESSAGE WAS ON THE SCREEN. THEY CLAIM NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS WAS AFTER WATER GOT INTO MY CAR. BASICALLY, I'M JUST WAITING FOR THE NEXT THING TO HAPPEN WITH MY CAR WITH SO MUCH WATER GETTING INSIDE THE CABIN AND MAIN CONSOLE AREA. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT AS EVERYTHING IS WORKING NOW. VEHICLE WAS SITTING OUTSIDE WHEN WATER GOT INSIDE. WHEN OTHER ITEMS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING. THESE HAPPENED ON JUNE OF 2019, SEPTEMBER OF 2019 AND NOVEMBER 0F 2019.

Vehicle Speed Control1 complaint

THIS VEHICLE HAS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION WHEN ACCELERATING AWAY FROM AN INTERSECTION, WHETHER STOPPED OR AT A LOW SPEED, THERE IS A SERIOUS LAG BEFORE ACCELERATION KICKS IN AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. IT'S LIKE THE VEHICLE IS WAITING (WAY) TOO LONG TO DOWNSHIFT AND PULL AWAY, AND WANTS INSTEAD TO SLOOOOOOOWLY BUILD SPEED WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE AT INTERSECTIONS. THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE IS TO FLOOR IT, RESULTING IN UNSAFE AND JERKY ACCELERATION.
