Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

PARKING BRAKE:ELECTRICAL:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE

NHTSA #24V693000

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2024 EV9 vehicles. A software error may cause the remote smart parking assist feature, which allows the operator to remotely move the vehicle, to miscalculate stopping distances.

Reported consequence: A remote smart parking assist feature that miscalculates stopping distances may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will update the integrated electronic brake software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 4, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC324.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2023 Niro EV and 2024 EV9 vehicles. The differential gear bolts in the gear drive unit may not be tightened properly, which can result in a loss of drive power or cause the differential to lock up.

Reported consequence: A loss of drive power or differential lock up can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the gear drive unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 17, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC308.

Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Electrical System35 complaints

BPM warning in the KIA app. Apparently, ICCU and battery failures are t known issues with the KIA EV9s.

NHTSA #11722786

Battery Management System - Critical EV Battery Warning This vehicle has been back to the dealership for repairs multiple times. Including needing to swap battery cells and wires around.

NHTSA #11688930

Received the following warning on 8/16 with 6987 miles on the car: Critical EV Battery Warning Your EV Battery has a critical issue. Contact Roadside Assistance as soon as possible. Car has been in the dealership for a week with "no estimated repair timeline" due to the battery cells failing. Car will not fully charge and is at risk of suddenly losing power and stopping, per the dealer.

NHTSA #11683737

The instrument display panel goes black and you can’t see speedometer or hear turn signals etc.

NHTSA #11677670

The car battery cells are defective and would not charge above 60%. After faulting on electrical vehicle alarm instrument panel sometimes may show false battery state of charge.

NHTSA #11676306

Battery keeps dying despite full charge and multiple jumps. Battery has already been replaced and continues to die even after jumping and leaving on. Car just dies despite it running after a jump.

NHTSA #11662809

1. Repair History and Days Out of Service The vehicle has been at CMA Colonial Kia dealership since [insert drop-off date], totaling 49 days (and counting) out of service as of 05/13/2025. The sole but critical issue is a failed high-voltage battery, which the dealership and Kia confirmed must be fully replaced. This is the first repair attempt, but the car has remained unusable for over a month. 2. Substantial Impairment to Use, Value, and Safety The failure of the high-voltage battery in an electric vehicle renders it completely inoperable, with no capability to drive, charge, or function. This significantly impairs the use, safety, and value of the vehicle: Use: The car cannot be driven at all. Safety: Battery failure in an EV represents a major system defect with fire and high-voltage risks. Value: A brand-new EV with major battery failure has diminished resale value and buyer confidence. 3. Eligibility Under Virginia Lemon Law Under the Virginia Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act (Lemon Law): A vehicle qualifies if it is out of service for 30 or more calendar days for warranty repairs within the first 18 months or 18,000 miles. My EV9 has been out of service for 49+ days, meets mileage and time limits, and involves a major system failure. Therefore, my vehicle qualifies for relief under the statute. 4. Issues for the Arbitrator to Address The vehicle meets Virginia Lemon Law criteria due to prolonged inoperability for a substantial defect. Kia has not provided a comparable loaner or timely resolution. The vehicle poses safety concerns due to failed propulsion battery. 5. Desired Resolution I am requesting a full repurchase (buyback) of the vehicle, including: Full reimbursement of the purchase price (down payment, monthly payments made, taxes, fees). Any towing or rental expenses incurred. Cancellation of the finance agreement if applicable.

NHTSA #11660694

Battery cell in electric vehicle failed after 6 months of ownership.

NHTSA #11648445

The blank screen software recall has not fixed the screen that goes blank. It is still happening. This was after a dealership visit to address the recalls.

NHTSA #11642401

Main gauge cluster display blank. No speed info, charge info, etc. no blindspot warning or turn signal sound or anything

NHTSA #11638603

Battery Management System light came on 1/22 , battery wouldn’t charge past 80% - took into Kia Burlington NJ for service- they diagnosed vehicle and put it on charger and was told issue was resolved. I am noticing that my battery pack is having issues- battery pack is 99kw when it goes down to 10 % in can charge it all the way to 100% but only 50kw is dispensed. Meaning that there is 40kw of battery that is unaccounted for. My max range is extremely limited to 120mi on a full charge. I understand winter can affect range but with the constant charging- i haven’t been able to dispense the full 90ish kw of charge. Concerned about my safety and a potentially defective battery pack.

NHTSA #11645456

I am told my car did have the software update for the instrument display but I still experienced issue where I turn on the car and the display in the middle is completely black except it shows D for the gear I am in. Can’t see the speed can’t see if the blinkers are on!

NHTSA #11635659

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the instrument panel went blank. The vehicle was restarted, and the instrument panel returned to normal functionality. The contact stated while charging the vehicle at the residence, the notification “Connected” was displayed and then the “Disconnected” notification was displayed on the Kia App on the contact’s cellphone. While the contact was driving the vehicle, the same notifications were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the message "There may be problem with the Battery Management System - If the following occurs; Please contact your nearest service center or designated maintenance center". The contact also received notifications through the Kia App for NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V757000 (Electrical System) and 24V962000 (Seats) recalls. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that the vehicle needed to stay overnight to be diagnosed and to perform the recall repairs. The contact then received an email the next day that the dealer failed to diagnose the failure and that the failure would be escalated to a technician provided by the manufacturer. The contact then called the dealer where the information was confirmed. The contact was informed that the vehicle would remain with the dealer for three to four months. The dealer was unable to provide a loaner vehicle due to a shortage of available vehicles. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

NHTSA #11667417

Car would not charge on a fast charger and died on us while on a trip. We got the car towed to a dealership and two days later was told the car was fixed and ready to go. On the way home, we stopped to charge the car and the car still wouldn’t connect to charger. The car would connect to our home charger though. I took to the car to the dealership in our town where they had trouble getting it to connect to their fast charger along with the car not communicating to back of car. The car also completely died even with a full battery and had to get it towed to dealership

NHTSA #11647715

I started my EV9 tonight and the main instrament pannel would not turn on. I was able to drive but could not see my speedometer or any other safty information on the screen. I was not notified about the recall until filing this report.

NHTSA #11626521

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact became aware that the instrument panel was dark. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel had failed, and a system update was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V757000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The approximate failure mileage was 4,612.

NHTSA #11626678

Main head display in front of driver is blank. No live driving information is displayed, speed, state of charge, etc. This has happened 3 separate times at this point. So far, leaving the car turned off and locked for an undetermined amount of time (over 30 minutes?) has resolved the issue as the next time the car is started the display functions as normal.

NHTSA #11622175

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds with the cruise control activated, the instrument panel went blank. The contact stated that when the instrument panel returned to normal operation, the vehicle quickly accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact immediately deactivated the cruise control and the vehicle returned to normal operation. Since the initial instrument panel failure, the failure persisted while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the instrument panel intermittently flashed on and off and occasionally there were several warning lights illuminated after the instrument panel regained normal function. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The contact was also informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V757000 (Electrical System) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 500.

NHTSA #11622255

Half of digital dashboard not working. Unable to see speed of the vehicle.

NHTSA #11621145

Instrument cluster at steering wheel column went black. Cannot see driving speed , odometer, and other necessary safety status prompts. Requires shitting car off and turning back on to restore cluster. But it has failed multiple times since.

NHTSA #11621112

Gauge cluster completely blank after successfully starting the car. Happened twice in two weeks. No speedometer, no battery level, no safety features available, no audible turn signal

NHTSA #11619539

Vehicle powered on, while DRIVING, instrument cluster is blank. Cannot see speedometer- huge safety issue

NHTSA #11619556

On Oct 11th the vehicle failed to fully charge, stopping at 69%. I heard loud and repeated clicking from the undercarriage. On Oct 12th I received an email / system notification “ A suspected condition with your BuddyNine’s Battery Management System has been detected. Charging has been limited. A full system check is recommended. Please schedule an appointment at your Kia dealership as soon as possible.” On Oct 12th I received a critical warning in the Kia app: “ Your EV Battery has a critical issue. Contact Roadside Assistance (844-886-9411) as soon as possible.” I took the car into a Kia dealership on Monday Oct 14th and they have had it for 23 straight days. I have received conflicting information about the underlying cause and have not received an estimate for when it will be repaired.

NHTSA #11623911

Dashboard blinked out. Turned off vehicle and let sit for ten minutes per the Kia forum and restarted. Still no dashboard indication at all. Blinkers do function. Taking to dealer. Vehicle has approximately 1100 miles on it.

NHTSA #11619135

When I started my car to go to an appointment, the instrument dash didn't show any information, i.e., Speed, Charge Remaining, odometer, etc. The car was driveable but I didn't have any indication of my speed.

NHTSA #11618496

My car is 7 months old. Today, while driving, the driver display went blank. I had no speed indicator, no blinkers, I do not know if the brake lights were working, nothing in the driver display dash. I understand that this is an issue with this particular car. This is very dangerous. Nothing I did would make the display come back on. The car is currently at the dealers being worked on so I don't know what the problem is or how it is being resolved. But, based on EV9 forums, this is a known problem. That I of course knew nothing about.

NHTSA #11618537

The dashboard went dark. it’s an LCD panel, which means there was no speedometer, no gauges, no way to tell how much charge is left on my car. The turn signal stopped working too.

NHTSA #11618339

Entire dashboard went blank and was not visible

NHTSA #11628847

Main cluster blank (charge, speedometer, etc). Cannot be resolved unless shut off for 30-60 minutes. This happened previously 1-2 months ago (no report filed).

NHTSA #11617530

Drivers screen goes blank while driving.

NHTSA #11617531

When turning on the car, the instrument cluster screen would remain black, preventing the driver from seeing the speedometer, vehicle state of charge, warning lights, etc and making the vehicle dangerous to drive.

NHTSA #11616811

The two drivers electrical monitors fail. The driver side monitor goes blank and the second monitor gets stuck in backup camera mode. When this happens, the turn signals are not indicated inside the car, so driver is not informed if this is working or not. This has happened twice and car was brought to KIA for inspection each time. From the [XXX] article, it appears that numerous other people are having this problem as well. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11619188

We turned on the car and the section of the display behind the steering wheel was blank. No speed information, no gear choice information, no blinker notification. Attempted to turn everything off, but a full power down did not resolve the issue. Later that day, the display was working again.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) failed to detect or warn of any tire pressure abnormality before or after the blowout. Following the blowout, the vehicle’s diagnostics screen displayed “All Systems OK” while the instrument cluster simultaneously showed a “Low Tire Pressure” warning. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A tire blowout at 65 MPH on a highway created an immediate risk of loss of vehicle control, collision, or rollover. Two minor children were passengers in the vehicle at the time. The simultaneous TPMS failure provided no advance warning, eliminating any opportunity to safely reduce speed or pull over before the blowout occurred. The vehicle had been in my possession for approximately four hours at the time of the incident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? UNKNOWN Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?UNKNOWN Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO

NHTSA #11740769

Description of the Problem: While driving my 2024 Kia EV9, the vehicle suddenly jerked and displayed a “Motor Control System” warning on the dashboard. The Kia Access app showed diagnostic code P0A4100 (MCU_R – Motor Control Unit fault). The issue causes the vehicle to hesitate and feel as if it loses power momentarily while in motion, creating a serious safety risk for me and my children. System/Component: The failure involves the Motor Control Unit (MCU) / electrical drivetrain system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle’s jerking and power fluctuation make it unsafe to drive in traffic, especially with children on board. It gives the sensation of being rear-ended and raises concern of potential stalling or loss of propulsion. Reproduction and Dealer Confirmation: The problem was reported to Sons Kia in McDonough, GA. The dealership initially inspected the vehicle on October 24, 2025, and returned it on [XXX], claiming the issue was addressed. However, the same warning and behavior reappeared less than 24 hours later ([XXX]). Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by the Kia dealership service department. No outside parties (police or insurance) have inspected it yet. Warnings/Symptoms: The first warning appeared on [XXX], with the “Motor Control System” dashboard message and a corresponding alert in the Kia Access app. The issue continues to recur despite service. NHTSA #11695727

Car was new with 1,002 miles on odometer and with me for 3 weeks. The 12 volt battery died and needed to be replaced. This vehicle uses the 12v battery to start the electronics for the car which then enable operation of the car. The failure of this battery left the car without any power and it needed to be towed from my garage to the dealer. This is a common issue with Kia and Hyundai electric vehicles.

Display/instrument cluster not functional when turning the car on after overnight charge to 80%. User profile display functions and car can shift into gear, although no speedometer available.

NHTSA #11620861

Display doesn’t come on when car goes on. Blind spot indicator, turn signal, speed display, nothing works. Car will drive but very unsafe without dash display.

NHTSA #11618835

Dashboard screen is blank. Have tried to turn off and restart the car multiple times. can not see speed or other key information. There really needs to be a recall on this as soon as possible and some sort of a bulletin that the car is undriveable. It's the same issue described here. Car was fine until today. Assuming an over-the-air update must have caused a bug. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11618797

Digital Gauges Keep Failing

NHTSA #11618792

The electric dash that shows speed, battery charge level, drive mode, and other safety features (such as camera side mirrors, whether turn signal is on) has gone blank twice. From research online, this appears to be a known issue that can only be resolved by disconnecting the 12v battery or stopping the car and leaving it lock for an extended period of time. This seems like a major safety issue.

NHTSA #11617968

Twice so far my EV9's main screen and the HUD have gone blank. This leaves me with no way to view my speed, alerts, etc. The only way to fix this, as far as I can tell, is to disconnect the 12V battery for a period of time and then reconnect it. It is extremely dangerous to not know how fast you are driving and to not have any other information, including driver alerts. And the fact that there is no way to reset the system without a great deal of effort (and a 10mm socket wrench) makes this extra hazardous.

NHTSA #11617704

Instrument panel went blank while driving. No digital gages available. No sound or picture when turn signals used. Had no idea how fast I was driving. The issue resolved itself after the vehicle was turned off and sat for a few hours. Have a service appointment for safety recall in addition to this and another concern.

NHTSA #11618943

The control screen with speedometer, all the advanced driving systems has blanked twice. The car still drives fine, but I couldn’t tell how fast I was going or access any of the advanced driving features or warnings using a camera. I wasn’t even sure if my turn signal was going until I got out and checked. All the online forums advise to turn off and lock car for 30 minutes and restart, which has worked, but the first time it happened I was driving downtown and couldn’t tell whether any of my external signals were working. The second time (several weeks later) driving carpool. Get out and wait 30 minutes is not feasible. Because they were spaced rather far apart, I don’t feel like it’s a single software update issue.

NHTSA #11616008

Electrical System,Unknown Or Other7 complaints

All of a sudden the EV battery management system warning light is on and it suggest I do not drive it until fixed. This was after my entire screen went out, where I could not see the speed I was going or use turn signals. Very unsafe

NHTSA #11648576

My car started to not charge for more than 10mn at a time. It also showed an error message about the electrical system. I have dropped off my car at the dealership on march 3rd. No information since

NHTSA #11653675

Our KIA EV9, which HAS HAD the software update installed to address NHTSA Recall Number 24V757 (Kia safety recall SC326) has again had the driver's instrument panel screen come up blank when the car was started. This is identical to behavior we observed multiple times before taking the car to the dealership for the software update. To resolve the issue, the car was turned off and permitted to sit for an hour before we attempted to start it again and the problem was no longer present.

Yesterday I was nearly in an accident any my car’s horn did not work. It still doesn’t work. I called my dealer and they hadn’t heard of the problem in the EV-9 but added to my upcoming recall appointment. Not sure vehicle is safe to drive without a working horn.

NHTSA #11618510

Instrument cluster randomly will be blank. Which prevents the driver from seeing travel speed, battery level, etc.

NHTSA #11616985

Twice in approximately 6 weeks of ownership, when starting the car, the screen that displays the digital instrument panel for the driver has been blank with the exception of a single letter at the bottom of the display that indicates the drive mode of the vehicle (D). While in this state, the vehicle does not have any audio alerts (e.g. turn signal, blind spot warning, etc). Also, due to the screen being blank, the vehicle speed, remaining range of the electrical vehicle, and all other digital gauge data are unable to be seen. The screen portions to the right of the driver instrument panel (radio, android auto, etc.) are displayed when this occurs. If the vehicle is turned off and then allowed to sit for 30-60 minutes, when restarting the vehicle, the condition is cleared.

NHTSA #11619005

Main display does not show speed, blind spot warnings, etc. it’s mostly blank. It shows that my vehicle is in park, reverse, neutral or drive. It’s blank other than that. Unable to monitor speed while driving!

Seats6 complaints

In October 2025, my drivers seat began to move forward and fold on its own. I was sitting in the seat and crushed. I was able to free myself. I might have photos. I did call Kia. For a second time maybe a month ago, I was undoing my son's car seat from the latch and the seat began to fold up and pinned my neck and arm. I thought I was going to die. This was a rear passenger seat.

NHTSA #11740877

When making left turn or going over bumps, driver seat pops and feel shifted.

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver's side seat detached from the frame. Due to the failure, the contact was unable to reach the brake pedal, and almost lost control of the vehicle. In addition, the contact’s mother and minor children were also occupants of the vehicle at the time of the failure. The contact was now concerned about the safety of the vehicle and was afraid to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that all the seats inside the vehicle had detached from the frame due to fractured bolts. The contact was informed that the bolts needed to be torqued. The vehicle was repaired. The failure first occurred immediately after the vehicle was purchased. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 6.

NHTSA #11676249

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the middle-row passenger’s side seat failed to remain secured. The contact stated that due to the failure the middle row passenger seated in the seat was moving forwards and backwards because the seat failed to remain secured. The contact stated that the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,701.

NHTSA #11642002

Started around mid December, the driver's seat makes a clunking sound as you go around especially left-hand corners. AND recently, I can feel the seat shift/move as well.

Visibility/Wiper5 complaints

Windshield wipers stopped working in middle of bad snow storm. I had to pull over, wait for the weather to improve before proceeding. I have a minor child and safety is a concern to me. Thought it was the wiper so I went to AutoZone to replace it and was told the problem is the wiper motor and that I needed to take to the dealership for repair

NHTSA #11716100

Wiper washer system was working properly until the first snowfall today. Despite the very small amount of snow, the wiper washer system for the front windshield will not operate. The rear washer works properly. Washer reservoir is full and the wipers work properly.

NHTSA #11701991

Snow accumulates under wiper blades and then ice sticks to the wipers themselves. Big chunks of ice form on blades so that wipers do not clear snow/water off of windshield. Impossible to see while driving when this occurs in snowy conditions. Defrost setting on HVAC is not enough to melt ice so must be manually removed. No reference in user manual or from KIA on how to manage.

NHTSA #11649635

Show 2 more

When blocked from returning to the fully off/down position, in this case by ice, the windshield wipers stop working. In my other vehicle, even if they don't go all the way down they still operate. We had an ice blockage that completely deactivated the wipers while driving in already hazardous conditions.

NHTSA #11634889

Windshield wipers are not strong enough to deal with even small amounts of snow. The gap between the windshield and the hood is unusually large which allows snow to accumulate and get packed into the gap. The wiper motor stops functioning even with a small amount of snow accumulation in that gap. Even when completely cleared before driving, when snow gets pushed down from the wipers or slides off the roof into those gaps, the wipers stop functioning immediately and view is completely obstructed. Took me 10 minutes with a garden spade and my finger nails to dig out every piece of snow before starting my drive, then had to pull over twice during the drive to do the same thing again. Even when a small chunk of snow slipped down (the size of a hand), the wiper couldn’t push it back up and off. This is extremely dangerous where winter snow is a daily problem.

NHTSA #11624197

Suspension5 complaints

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH, there was an abnormal slapping sound coming from the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle. While observing the tires, the contact became aware that the rear tires were bald, and the steel belts were coming from the inside of the tires. The contact used Fix a Flat inside the tires and was able to drive the vehicle to the residence. The following day, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the dealer that it was a known issue with the original tires on the vehicle. The contact was informed that the failure was caused by the battery, causing the vehicle to be too heavy for the vehicle. The inclination, tilt, or angle of suspension components with the shocks, struts, or control arms, known as the CANT, caused the tires to tilt outward approximately 2 or more inches. The dealer diagnosed that the suspension could have failed. The cant, suspension, and tires were replaced, and the wheels were aligned. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 12,668.

When driving between 20-40 mph and hitting a rough patch of road, pothole, expansion joint, or uneven pavement, the vehicle sometimes heavily sways left to right. It takes one to two seconds to stabilize after the swaying. My wife and I both experience it at different times - we say it "feels like a wheel is falling off" because it's so disorienting and concerning. It often happens unexpectedly with road surface that doesn't actually appear to be all that bad. The rear end feels particularly unstable, like the suspension can't control the vehicle's weight when it's swaying. It's not a small vibration - it's a pronounced side-to-side oscillation. Sometimes I need to make steering corrections just to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. This unpredictable swaying makes us nervous about driving in adverse weather conditions. We can't trust how the vehicle will react when hitting unavoidable bumps and road imperfections. We have noticed it over 50mph at times but it is much more rare at this speed -- though when it happens at this speed it is obviously much more concerning. At higher speeds the swaying does not seem as pronounced / dangerous as at lower speeds, thankfully. After researching online, I discovered many other EV9 owners reporting identical suspension problems. Multiple complaints describe the same lateral swaying, porpoising, and bump-steer behavior that we are experiencing. This appears to be particularly common among GT-Line models. The consistency of these reports suggests this is a systemic defect affecting multiple vehicles, not an isolated incident with our particular vehicle. We have 11k miles on the vehicle now and this has been consistently happening since 200-300 miles brand new. We've mentioned to a dealer but it is very difficult to reproduce as it seems to happen randomly, even over the same stretch of rough road.

The contact owned a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, several warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost automotive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed rear inverter. The contact was informed that the rear inverter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed rear inverter again. The contact was informed that the rear inverter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. In addition, the contact noticed smoke exiting from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The local fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The contact was unofficially informed that the fire seemed to have started from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the replacement of the rear inverted was performed three times prior to the fire. The last replacement of the rear inverter was performed just a few days prior to the fire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. In addition, the contact stated that prior to the vehicle fire, the contact was in negotiations regarding the vehicle's back. The failure mileage was approximately 10,600.

At highway speeds, the SUV experiences significant body sway when hitting a bump, causing it to rock side to side in an unsettling manner. This issue makes the vehicle feel unstable and nervous, requiring the driver to slow down to regain control. The excessive body roll presents a potential safety hazard, as it could lead to a loss of control in certain conditions. Based on my research, this problem appears to affect the GT-Line model more than others. A solution is urgently needed to address this serious handling issue, but so far, Kia Corporation has done nothing to resolve it.

NHTSA #11644936

The Kia EV9 has a defect in its suspension that causes the rear end to "bump-steer" over imperfections in the road, giving the driver a scary sensation of losing control. For example, driving on the highway in a corner, if you hit an expansion joint or pothole, the vehicle will require a quick steering correction while the vehicle's rear-end enters what feels like an oversteer condition. This reduces confidence in the vehicle's ability to hold the road. In poor weather like snow, it's impossible to discern whether the vehicle's rear end is sliding, or if it's the bump-steer condition occurring. My wife refuses to drive the car in inclement weather, despite the vehicle being fitted with snow tires. It is a very scary feeling. Kia has yet to issue a TSB for this on 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles, and it seems that all trim levels are affected after discussing with the community on forums. Even after dialing in the alignment perfectly to manufacturer specifications, the issue does not resolve.

While driving, the vehicle suddenly lost power and could not accelerate normally. The speed dropped and got stuck around 12–25 mph even when pressing the accelerator. This happened multiple times, usually during hot daytime conditions. It created a serious safety risk, and one time another car almost hit me from behind because my vehicle slowed down so suddenly. The dealer has inspected the car several times but said they could not reproduce the problem. Warning messages such as “Power Limited” appeared on the dashboard when the failure occurred. I also recorded multiple videos of the problem when it happened.

NHTSA #11682293

I was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph with approximately 40% charge to the high voltage battery. While moving the car suddenly stopped accelerating and switched to neutral automatically. The instrument panel provided no audible alerts of a problem and in relatively small text stated "check electrical system" The brakes and the rest of the car's electronics worked such as turn signals and warning lights. We were able to coast and pull over to shoulder of highway and stop safely, but losing acceleration in middle of highway suddenly was very scary. Car is currently at dealer awaiting to be diagnosed.

Vehicle Information: 2024 Kia EV9 Light Long Range Mileage: 850 miles Issue Summary: I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2024 Kia EV9 Light Long Range. Within the first three weeks of ownership and with less than 900 miles on the odometer, I experienced multiple instances of the vehicle entering "turtle mode" while driving at high speeds on the freeway. This mode significantly reduced the vehicle’s speed without warning, creating a dangerous situation. Incident Details: While driving at 80–85 MPH on a California freeway with my family, my 2024 Kia EV9 LLR suddenly entered "turtle mode" without warning, drastically reducing speed to 30–40 MPH. I had to quickly activate hazard lights and navigate to the shoulder. At the time, the battery level was around 15%, and I initially thought it was a low battery issue. However, the following day, after fully charging the vehicle, the issue recurred with approximately 82% battery remaining. Over the next few days, this happened a total of four times while driving at freeway speeds. On the fourth occurrence, the vehicle shut down completely after coming to a stop and would not respond to acceleration until multiple restart attempts. Current Status: The vehicle has been towed to the dealership by Kia Roadside Assistance. The service team is currently investigating the issue and has opened a case with Kia corporate, but no diagnosis has been provided at this time. Given the severity of this recurring issue, I have also opened a buyback/refund request with Kia corporate. Safety Concerns: This defect presents a severe safety risk, as the sudden loss of speed while driving at high speeds on a freeway could easily result in a rear-end collision or other accidents. The inability to accelerate or maintain control over the vehicle creates an extremely dangerous situation, especially in high-traffic environments. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue to ensure the safety of other Kia EV9 owners.

Vehicle range went from 320+ miles on a 100% charge to just 100 miles on 100% charge. Looks to be a bad battery cell or battery itself. No warning lights of any kind. Just super degraded range. Vehicle is new and has around 5800 miles. Dealer doesn't have techs to work on batteries, so they are having to play telephone game with Kia tech line in Korea.

NHTSA #11649183

Starting on Feb 22, 2025, we observed that our Kia EV9 had dramatically reduced range. Normally, when charging was complete the dashboard would show well over 250 miles of range, even in cold weather. On Feb 22nd we started to see the range had dropped to around 60 miles, even when the dashboard reported the battery at 100% charge. The actual range seemed to be even worse, dropping dramatically even after a short drive around our town. By all appearances, the high voltage battery seems to be defective and is causing a safety issue because it could result in a sudden loss of power during driving or an unexpected shutdown of the vehicle. This may also be a symptom of an even more serious battery defect that could result in a battery fire. We brought the vehicle to the dealer, and they were able to reproduce the severe drop in range. No components have been replaced yet, we are still waiting to hear which parts will be replaced under warranty service. During this entire time the vehicle has given zero warnings or alerts, including no warning messages nor the check engine light.

When traveling at highway speeds the rear suspension is not capable of handling road imperfections. When a pot hole or other disturbance occurs, the rear end of the vehicle violently porpoises and swing back and forth. This is made even more obvious when taking a long sweeping curves at 55 plus. It causes the entire chassis to become very upset. I have never had a car do this.

1. When I go over bumps, the car behaves as if it's about to lose control. It porpoises and at one point it feels like you're about to lose control of the vehicle. 2. We have taken the vehicle to the dealer 3+ times now for the same issue. They claim that it's a glitch in the suspension but there is no know fix. At 55+MPH the vehicle starts vibrating and is completely different than issue number 1 above. They've tried balancing the tires but it has not been Successful. We're hoping to claim the car and Lemon through WI.

Tires2 complaints

For several weeks the car has felt out of balance and I had it in the shop once to be balanced. The balance felt it lasted a very short time. I took the car in today to be checked out and the passenger rear tire couldn’t hold a balance. Mechanic removed tire and the interior sound deadening foam had detached on greater than 50% of the diameter of the tire. This has been widely commented on as a common failure mode for these Hankook tires on EV9 vehicles. I wanted the remaining tires inspected but as they would hold a balance the dealer had no reason to put in the labor of removing and inspecting the foam. 285/45 R21

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Two components failed simultaneously: (1) the rear passenger side tire experienced a catastrophic blowout while traveling at 65 MPH on the highway, and (2) the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) failed to detect or warn of any tire pressure abnormality before or after the blowout. Following the blowout, the vehicle’s diagnostics screen displayed “All Systems OK” while the instrument cluster simultaneously showed a “Low Tire Pressure” warning — indicating a TPMS malfunction. The original blown tire has been retained and is available for inspection upon request. All four tires have since been replaced. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A tire blowout at 65 MPH on a highway created an immediate risk, I briefly lost control of the vehicle as it became wobbly and unstable to steer, we were at at risk of collision, or rollover. Two minor children were passengers in the vehicle at the time. The simultaneous TPMS failure provided no advance warning, eliminating any opportunity to safely reduce speed or pull over before the blowout occurred. The vehicle had been in my possession for approximately two-three hours at the time of the incident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? UNKNOWN Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? UNKNOWN Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms appeared prior to the tire blowout. The TPMS provided zero advance warning. After the blowout had already occurred and the vehicle was stopped on the roadside, the instrument cluster displayed a “Low Tire Pressure” warning. However, simultaneously, the Vehicle Diagnostics screen displayed “All Systems OK” with a green check-mark.

3 weeks after picking up our Kia EV9, I noticed a thunking sound from the passenger side front tire. When we reached home, we opened the car cover and noticed that the lug nut had come off and was rattling behind the cover. We called the dealership and the asked us to bring the car in. Since we didn't want to drive it, we bought a torque wrench and tightened it ourselves, after getting the information from the dealership on how much to tighten it. We also noticed that all the lug nuts were under torqued and the driver side lug nut was very loose. Seat Belts2 complaints

Two seatbelts failed in the rear of the car. One seatbelt in the third row seat and the middle seatbelt in the 2nd row back seat. This happened in quick succession soon after I purchased the car used from a Kia dealer in Orlando. The seatbelt in the third-row seat seemed to fold up and jam in a way that could not be unjammed. The middle seatbelt in the second row got stuck in its extended position, as if it were fully extended, and will not retract. The dealer is claiming that both failures were due to external issues and they are not covering them under warranty. But both issues seem odd to me -- the middle seat seatbelt is just fully extended and now won't retreat; the third row seatbelt folded up when it retracted but, in my experience, that happens somewhat frequently and usually the seatbelts just unfold and keep working. My concern is that this might be a sign that there is an underlying seatbelt manufacturing issue. The dealer is claiming that both seatbelt pretensioners need to be replaced. I have not repaired the seatbelt issues yet so they can both be examined. I can also sent photos of the seatbelts.

Electrical System,Engine2 complaints

I would also like to highlight the serious safety concern due to cell deviation (imbalance) along with SOC (State of Charge) mismatch as per my car's BMS (Battery management system) which is present in my vehicle and shared with Kia corporate. In an electric vehicle, the high-voltage battery cells, the Battery Management System, and the battery coolant system function as a single integrated safety-critical system. When battery cells are imbalanced and there is a significant mismatch between the state of charge displayed to the driver and the lower usable energy calculated by the Battery Management System, the weakest cell can reach its safe operating limit under normal driving load even though the dashboard indicates sufficient charge. If this condition is combined with a battery coolant system fault, such as low coolant level or air in the cooling circuit, battery temperatures can rise unevenly and further reduce safe operating margins. To protect the battery and prevent thermal or electrical damage, the system must immediately limit propulsion or enter a reduced-power (“turtle”) mode without driver input. Because these protective actions can occur suddenly and without advance warning, they can restrict acceleration or vehicle speed during ordinary driving conditions such as merging or maintaining highway speed, creating an unexpected loss-of-propulsion safety risk rather than a mere inconvenience. This is equivalent to a faulty fuel gauge for a gasoline car but with more immediate and severe consequences Sudden Power Cutoffs: If a single battery cell's voltage drops below a safe threshold, the Battery Management System (BMS) will shut down the entire pack to prevent permanent damage. This can happen even if the dashboard shows 25% or more remaining, potentially leaving you without power while driving. Loss of Vehicle Control: A sudden shutdown can lead to a loss of power steering and braking assistance, which is hazardous in high-speed or heavytraffic situatio

When the vehicle is in adaptive cruise mode and tracking a lane with Lane Keeping Assistance, if the lines on the road widen beyond a certain point (perhaps 3-5ft wider than a normal lane), the vehicle will suddenly stop maintaining the lane with no audio warning or significant visual indicator. As the driver should always be paying attention, it is the lack of an audio warning that is the major concern. On a straight road, the vehicle will slowly begin to drift out of the lane. However, when this happens on a curve, the vehicle will suddenly stop steering around the corner, and throw the vehicle out of the lane in a dangerous way. This happens all the time when the lane widens, which I often experience on newer freeways with wider lanes. If a fix can't be provided for the system shutting down, it at least needs an audio warning indicator so the driver is alerted to what is happening and can safely take control.

I am reporting a critical safety issue with my KIA EV9. The vehicle's information screen, which displays essential driving data such as vehicle speed, cruise control status, advanced driving system indicators, lights, and signals, has malfunctioned. On two separate occasions, the screen went completely black while driving, leaving all critical driving information inaccessible. This malfunction poses a significant risk to my safety and the safety of others, as I was unable to monitor the vehicle’s speed or system status while driving. Availability for Inspection: The malfunctioning component (information screen/system) is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This issue compromised my ability to safely operate the vehicle. Without visibility of the speedometer, driving system indicators, or signal lights, I was unable to monitor crucial driving functions. This increased the risk of speeding unknowingly and reduced my ability to respond to surrounding traffic, creating a dangerous situation on the road. Reproduction of the Problem: The issue has occurred twice. While I have not yet had it reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center, I am aware that other KIA EV9 owners have reported the same issue, indicating it is not an isolated case. Inspection by Others: To date, the vehicle has not been inspected by KIA, law enforcement, insurance representatives, or other authorities regard Please find below links to forums and websites where other KIA EV9 shared about this issue. 1- [XXX] - [XXX] - [XXX] - [XXX] Here is the video of the incident. The screen that shows speed, miles remaining, etc. went black on a long trip. All of the automated cruise control, lane keeping, etc. are also housed in that screen. The blinkers would not work, I had no idea how fast I was going at any time which is unsafe. I could not see how much range is left on the vehicle which I imagine could lead the car just dying while driving or going into the turtle mode with too low of a charge. Also, the adaptive cruise control was not working properly and at one point when a car in front of me moved over out of my lane, the car accelerated hard and brought me up to about what was probably about 90-100mph, not even close to where it was set earlier. 2 hour drive without screen or these safety features and the screen still is not back. I will be taking it into the dealership. This is the second time this screen went out but luckily the first time I was not on a 2 hour work trip/drive and was able to just leave the car in my driveway and use another vehicle.

We were driving in the middle lane, going straight approximately 25 MPH. The car lurched and almost flipped. We were able to pull over, the wheel was no longer spinning with the car and the tie rod snapped at a weld point. We could have been killed had we been going faster. My son was thankfully not in the car. I am desperately trying to get the car inspected but the dealership will not unless we pay. There were no warnings, but a whining sound began yesterday and we were on the way to the dealership this morning. Now there are warnings. There have been so many safety issues with this car. I will be filing 2 other reports for the seats.

[XXX] Message says warning "check ev system". they then sent a letter saying it had to go to the dealer, or the car would need A tow potentially. I can't get an appointment as they are way too busy to do anything other than tell me they will get back to me, repeatedly stating they will do so in one business day. it has been a week. My wife is scared to drive the car. I think it is bogus as no recall has been issued. I have had the car for 19 months with no such warning. Two days after it shows up on the screen in the car i receive the letter. This is fishy. it is either a recall, or it isn't. if it is why is it not in your data base? The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, a burning odor was detected. The contact pressed the recirculate air button, but the burning odor intensified. No warning light was illuminated. The contact noticed flames coming from underneath the front driver's seat. The contact's husband pulled over and parked the vehicle. The contact, her husband, and their child were able to safely exit the vehicle. A vehilcle who had been driving behind stopped to assist, and since it was cold weather conditions, the contact and family waited for the Fire Department inside that owner's vehicle. There was no medical attention was received. When firefighters and police arrived, the fire had been self-extinguished. The contact was unaware of any reports filed by police or the fire department; however, the fire department informed the contact that there was no evidence of the lithium battery catching fire. The origin of the fire was unknown. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, but it had not yet been declared totaled by the insurance company. The contact stated that upon inspection, the wire beneath the front driver's seat had melted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

I recently purchase my 2024 EV9 from Carvana with 9578 miles listed on 12/12/25. Doing my 7 days to purchase this SUV. I had some concerns about the violent wobble when I drove over a bump. With some concerns about this SUV, I google to see if anyone else had this same issue. To my surprise I founded a lot of complaints and ways to resolved the issue. One consumer stated he had his EV9 aligned and reduce some of the wobble but not completely. I drove to Courage KIA in Gastonia NC. When I drove their system performed a per inspection on your vehicle. The alignment was way out of alignment. Had the alignment taken care of however it still a wobble. On 12/24/26 doing the snow and ice storm here in Charlotte, I attempted to make a trip to the store. The roads were wet but no snow or ice was on the roads. However when I hit a bump the rear end violently wobble and the rear end moved to the left and right farther it did before. I thought I was going to spin out of control. Now that I think about the very low mileage on this SUV. This perhaps is why they sold it. ly wobble

Seat Belts,Unknown Or Other1 complaint

A rear seatbelt indicator in the dashboard is broken, and it persistently indicates that (a) a passenger is in a rear seat; and (b) the passenger's seatbelt is fastened. This occurs even if a passenger is not in the seat and the passenger's seatbelt is not fastened. It is unclear whether this is strictly an electronic error in the dashboard, or if the seatbelt itself does not function appropriately. Kia has unsuccessfully tried to fix it twice, and the service department reproduced the problem by simply turning on the vehicle and seeing the persistent light. The local Kia service department says they are not trained to fix many EV problems, so corporate has to be involved, but corporate has not provided material assistance. Corporate has been informed in writing several times of the issue, including that this is a material safety issue, particularly since the vehicle is marketed toward families where a seatbelt indicator may be relied upon by drivers, and it's unclear whether this is strictly an electronics issue or a seatbelt functionality issue. Corporate acknowledged receipt of communications in which they were asked if this has been reported to the NHTSA, and they ignored both requests.

I was driving around 60-65 mph on the highway when suddenly a warning alarm went off and the warning light read “stop vehicle and check brake system”. I took my foot off the accelerator and car continued to maintain speed. The power brakes did not work. I put the car into neutral hoping that would slow it down, but it continued to maintain speed. I went into the right lane and put on my hazards. When I had the opportunity to pull into the breakdown lane, I did so and was able to push the brake pedal manually and get the car to stop, and turn it off. When I turned the car back on again, I got the same warnings and alarms. After 5-10 minutes, when I turned the car on, everything seemed to have cleared. I still had the car towed to KIA to investigate the issue.

What happened? While driving at highway speeds (approximately 60-75 mph), the vehicle exhibits a pronounced up-and-down motion at the rear, commonly referred to as “porpoising.” This motion is especially noticeable when traversing uneven road surfaces or expansion joints. This issue compromises vehicle stability and passenger comfort, posing a potential safety risk during high-speed travel. The problem has been consistently reproducible under similar driving conditions. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent service center for this specific issue. No warning lights or error messages have appeared on the dashboard in relation to this problem. Component suspected: Rear suspension system (exact cause UNKNOWN). Certain ADAS features have disengaged at least six times in the last year. While traveling at greater than 55 mph vehicle disengages cruise control and reports numerous warning indicators on dashboard including ADAS forward features such as collision warning and automatic braking indicators. I also noted lane management/steering also seemed to disengage when this has occurred during highway curve management. It is difficult to evaluate the full range of loss as the dashboard warnings are numerous and change over the next few minutes. It is also unsafe to secure good photographic evidence when traveling alone, though with assistance some imagery was recently captured. The sudden loss of speed and directional control assistance in multi-lane urban traffic was alarming but managed OK by alert driving. The manufacturer's dealer reported they could do nothing after one of the first occurrences. They said there were not 'codes' registered and not reports on file. The loss of systems usually cleared up within a few miles for the first instances. The most recent case persisted for several hours and several vehicle off/restart cycles. During this time the dashboard indicators suggested some failures resolved but some remained. This last case cleared over-night upon morning restart. A failure/warning was noted in the Kia Connect online app while the car still reported a problem. There were no prior indications before the sudden systems failure. All of these cases initially occurred on a section of road within about 1/2 mile of the same place. It involves a significant curve on an urban interstate interchanged. Sometimes the failures occur just before, or during, and at the end of the curve.

The dashboard and control panel of my vehicle have repeatedly blacked out since shortly after purchase. These blackouts cause the entire instrument cluster and control systems, including critical safety features, to become non-functional or obstructed intermittently while driving. This creates a dangerous situation where I lose access to important information such as speed, warning indicators, and climate controls, severely compromising my ability to operate the vehicle safely. The issue has occurred multiple times, including once while driving on a highway, which put me and other drivers at significant risk. The problem has been reported to authorized dealerships, where the vehicle was inspected and software updates were attempted, but the issue persists. Despite multiple repair attempts, the blackouts continue to happen unpredictably. There have been no specific warning lamps or messages prior to the blackouts; the system simply fails without notice. The malfunction affects the vehicle’s safety system by obstructing the driver’s view of critical controls and information, increasing the risk of accidents. Customer service from the dealerships has been unsatisfactory, with long wait times for repairs, lack of loaner vehicles, and repeated failure to resolve the problem. This ongoing safety concern remains unresolved despite numerous visits and repair attempts.

The 12-volt battery for the vehicle was depleted, so the vehicle had to be jump-started to run. I work for a repair facility (it was here for collision repairs, as far as I know unrelated to this issue) and since I was unfamiliar with the vehicle, I inadvertently turned it off before shifting into park. When I took my foot off the brake, the vehicle began to roll forward. I am not sure if the vehicle was in park, neutral, or even reverse (the gear I was in when I turned the vehicle off), but whatever gear it was, the vehicle kept rolling after it was turned off. I tried turning the vehicle back on to shift to park, but was unable to do so due to the depleted 12-volt battery. I tried hitting the park button anyway, and this did nothing. I then tried to engage the electronic parking brake, but this was also inoperative due to the lack of power. With each attempt, I tried briefly taking my foot off the brake, but each time it continued to roll forward. I then called my manager and asked him to jump start the vehicle so I could put it in park and engage the parking brake. No damage was done in this incident, nor was anyone hurt, but this lack of fail-safes to prevent the vehicle from moving after a loss of power is a significant design flaw and safety hazard. If I had not noticed the issue in time and gotten out, the vehicle could have rolled away and caused property damage or bodily injury to me or a bystander. To my knowledge, this is the only such incident with this vehicle, and I do not know whether it is specific to this particular vehicle or replicable in others of the same year make and model. There were no warning lights.

I brought the vehicle in to have recalls addressed on 12/30/24. Starting the next day we noticed the car was weaving without any steering, but thought it might have been icy road conditions and waited to see if it reoccured. The car has since weaved intermittently, but has righted itself after releasing the accelerator. However, on 1/15/25 while traveling about 50mph, the car started weaving on its own and when the accelerator was released the car started to wildly fishtail. Called dealer and they agreed this was a serious issue and agreed to see car the next morning. Service tech said when they drove the car it did the same thing and that the troubleshooting recommended I change the regenerative braking setting to "smooth" and sent me on my way. I did not get even a mile before the car began weaving rapidly again on its own. Went straight back to dealership where manager wanted me to drive the vehicle again with the tech in car which I refused as it is not safe to drive. So he said if I was ok with it tech would take car out again but if it was just acting how regenerative brakes work, there wasn't much else they could do. When manager returned to talk to me, he said he ended up going with the tech and it did replicate the weaving action two times during that drive. The car is steering on its own weaving wildly left and right and imposes a great danger and no longer feels like a safe vehicle to drive.

I am experiencing significant and persistent vibrations at highway speeds (60–75 mph) in my 2024 Kia EV9. Despite multiple dealership visits and repair attempts, the issue remains unresolved. The vibrations cause noticeable discomfort and potential safety risks, especially on long drives. Timeline of Events & Repairs: 1.First Visit to Kia dealer (Dec 24): The dealership performed a tire balance and determined one tire was defective, replacing it. Vibrations persisted. 2.Second Visit (Jan 25) The dealership replaced the remaining 3 tires 3. ThirdVisit (Feb 25): The dealership identified three wheels with lateral runout and replaced them. They also performed road force balancing, reportedly bringing all values below 16. 4.Test Drive (Feb 25): After picking up my vehicle, I drove on the interstate and found the vibrations had worsened, now starting at 60 mph instead of 70 mph. •A third-party wheel shop inspected the wheels and found the fourth wheel (not replaced by Kia) was defective and out of round. 5.Dealership’s Response: Despite these findings, Kia dealer dismissed my concerns and referred me to another dealership for a second opinion. They also stated that third-party evaluations are not accepted, creating an endless loop where I cannot get the issue properly addressed. Safety Concerns: •Vibrations impact vehicle stability and driver comfort, especially on long trips. •Extended driving with excessive vibrations may lead to fatigue, reduced control, and premature mechanical wear. •The fact that multiple components (wheels, tires) have required replacement raises concerns about a potential manufacturing defect affecting Kia EV9 models. Request for Investigation: The dealership has failed to resolve this issue despite multiple repair attempts, and their refusal to acknowledge third-party findings leaves me with no clear resolution path. I request that NHTSA investigate potential defects in the wheels, tires, or drivetrain system of the Kia EV9.

On November 5th, 2024 I exited a store and my vehicle instrument panel was black when I turned my vehicle on. I turned my vehicle off and on several times trying to get the panel to work. I could also not control the headlights or turn signal with the manual controls either. It was still daylight hours and I was 2 miles from home so I decided to try and see if the vehicle could be driven home. I was able to get the vehicle home but could not get the instrument panel to turn on despite many more times of trying by turning the vehicle off and on. The following morning I contacted the Royal Kia dealership and told them of my issue and they informed me this was a known recall issue that had recently been discovered; they had the vehicle towed to them the same day. They have now had my vehicle for 2 weeks and when I called them before filing this complaint they said they had no idea when they would be able to fix the recall. They also told me they required a special tool to fix the recall and they do not have that tool and have no idea when they will be able to get it. I then called another local Kia dealer and they told me they would also not be able to fix my vehicle in a timely manner and it would be 2 months before they would even be able to diagnose my car. My complaint is that the recall letter claims this is just a software update that could be done without visiting a dealership but both dealerships are telling me that it has to be fixed in person by them.

After starting and backing the car out of a parking spot, I noticed the instrument cluster display screen behind the steering wheel was completely blank, except for the letter of the gear I was in (P, R, or D) in the bottom center of the screen. The symbol for the parking brake also appeared in the bottom left of the screen, and the Door Ajar symbol at the top of the screen. The Heads Up display was also not working at all. When the turn signal was used, I could not see the light flash on the screen, and there was no audible noise telling me the turn signal was on. In fact, many audio notifications did not work. I had no ability to see my speed as both the speedometer and Heads Up Display were not working. I also could not see what mode of regenerative braking was being used, or any other vehicle status that normally appears on the status display. This is dangerous situation for multiple reasons: 1) I can not see how fast I was going 2) There were no safety indicators, visual or audio, that the seat belt is not used. 3) I can not tell if my turn signal was on, which could result in an accident when changing lanes if it wasn't working 4) I can not see how much range is left, potentially resulting in a situation where I get stranded. 5) I could not see what mode of regenerative braking I was in. This is important to ensure the car can be stopped in a safe manner, as each mode affects the stopping distance required. The problem can be reproduced. I am unable to get the display cluster screen to reappear. I have turned the car off and on and it still remains blank along with the heads up display. I have also changed settings for the display cluster in the main menu, but it does not work. I have not had an oppty to have this car inspected yet, but it is available upon request.
