Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

NHTSA #22V746000

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe, Sonata, Veloster N, 2022 Santa Cruz, Elantra N, and Kona N vehicles. The vehicle's "fail-safe" limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, when prompted by a transmission oil pump malfunction, which can result in a complete loss of drive power.

Reported consequence: Loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission, as necessary. Dealers will also update the transmission control unit software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 10, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 236.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

NHTSA #25V796000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Sonata vehicles. A damaged check valve can allow air to enter the fuel tank, causing it to expand and contact hot exhaust components, melting the tank.

Reported consequence: A melted fuel tank can leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the check valve. The fuel tank assembly will be inspected for damage and replaced if necessary. Additionally, dealers will inspect and update the engine control unit software. All repairs will be performed as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 286. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 19, 2025.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

NHTSA #21V524000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe and Sonata vehicles equipped with 2.5L turbocharged engines. Fuel may leak at the pipe connection between the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel rail.

Reported consequence: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the fuel pipe as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 3, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 207.

NHTSA #11740717

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that while attempting to use the key fob to unlock the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact manually unlocked the vehicle with the key, and the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two occasions, and the vehicle was jump-started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,808. The VIN was not available.

NHTSA #11689902

Vehicle will not start. This is the fourth incident where vehicle will not start. It has had the software update, battery and voltage regulator replaced in the summer of 2025. In Aug of 2025, vehicle will not start with jump or use of 12v battery in vehicle.

Initially vehicle battery is drained after three days of sitting in driveway and not being used. Vehicle has been taken in to dealership in July 2025 and found the 12v integrated battery was faulty and was replaced after being on backorder for three weeks. After battery was replaced the vehicle battery is drained after five days of sitting in driveway and not being used. No lights are left on, no aftermarket accessories are plugged in or attached to the electrical system. This has been an ongoing issue and the dealership I initially worked with has now had my car 3 different times and over four weeks and have stopped returning my phone calls. I have just sent my car do a different dealership and have been told it may take up to 2 months to diagnose the issue. I cannot open the door or start the car without using the emergency key, when I gain access to the car the 12v battery reset button rarely works to power the vehicle again. This is something that the dealerships are aware of, but have no idea what the actual problem is. Please for the love of God help.

NHTSA #11695328

Purchased vehicle on March 5, 2025 from a dealer. At the time it had approximately 20,000 miles. Within days of purchase, the car would not start even after pushing the battery reset button. Eventually, it would restart, but the time it took was considerable. Took the car to the Hyundai dealer near me and discovered that it had been with them for two months prior to purchase for the same problem. They have replaced the 12 V battery and possibly the hybrid battery, but now after owning it for about six weeks, it is giving me a message that there is a problem with the hybrid system and I should stop driving immediately. It is now back at the dealer. They can’t seem to duplicate the problem and I don’t feel safe driving the car because I don’t know if and when I’m going to get to my destination.

NHTSA #11655114

I brought my car in for electronic update recall. No issues before service. After service, dealer tells me that my car in inoperable and the 12v Aux battery needs to be replaced. The battery was swollen. There were no indication before bringing the car in for recall that there was a battery issue. Possible fire hazard.

NHTSA #11614053

Went to lower the AC fan speed earlier then went to turn it back on and the whole blower stopped working.

NHTSA #11632797

When I have my car parked without starting for 3 or more days, I get a alert that my 12vdc battery is low. When I get back to my car, I have to use the physical key to unlock and push the 12 dcv button to jump start the system. The cover over the door latch has to be taking off with the key to access it and is very hard to remove. This is a safety issue, especially for someone who may have a disability. It tool me 15 minutes to remove the cover because I had to pry it off with breaking it. I got to the point of just pulling it off before I leave home and putting the cover in glovebox because I park at the airport for work trips. These has happened 3 times. If these is the case, hyundai needs to make the Manuel key access accessible.

NHTSA #11591850

The car has completely lost power. Can not enter. Have to use the mechanical/physical key on the fob. Its been happeneing 7-8 times in the last year. It has a battery reset button we reset it from the dash which has a dedicated button just for this?

NHTSA #11620710

The car will not lock, the signal lights do not function, I cannot open gas door, cannot unlock trunk. I took the care to the service center and they just told me it was the junction box. I saw there was a major recall to this same car for this same problem with 2016. If this is a manufacture issue I think it should be covered by warranty but they are refusing to fix without me filing an insurance claim. My car has been inoperable since June. The hazard lights are on and I cannot operate the vehicle safely without repair of the junction box per service center at Hyundai of Greenville Sc

NHTSA #11534010

I bought my 2022 Hybrid Sonata in the summer of 2022. I drove it down to the beach (8 hour drive) about a week after purchasing the vehicle so at that time there were less than 100 miles on the car. We didn't use the vehicle for the week we were at the beach and when we tried to unlock the car to load our bags, the key would not unlock the car and we couldn't get in. We had to manually unlock the doors and call roadside assistance because the Battery reset button would not jumpstart the car. I was assured that there was no issue with the car by my local Hyundai dealership and that this was "normal." I have had the car die on me countless times while it sits idle in my driveway if I don't start it at least every other day. On August 8th 2024, my car was dead and I was able to jump it with the Battery Reset button. The next day, it was dead again. Upon jumping it for the second time in 24 hours, the check engine light came on. I took the car to the dealership to run diagnostics and the hybrid battery has failed their tests. Now I am waiting on my car with a loaner vehicle that I cannot drive out of state. I was told by customer service that they have had this problem with several other customers and some had to wait TWO YEARS for their battery to arrive and car repaired.

NHTSA #11617889

Trying to return home(alabama) from Louisiana, I tried using my key fob to get in my car, key fob was not working so I replaced the battery, still not working. Finally was able to get in my car by using the key, only to open the door and had NO POWER to my car, no dash or interior lights. Had to car road side service, they jumped the car off long enough to get the car in neutral to get it on the tow truck and towed to the dealership. Now stuck out of state until the dealership can "get time" to look at my car. This is a brand new car and really didn't expect this but again no matter if it is just a battery issue or something else, Hyundai's car has let me down and left me stranded. This is a huge problem especially when I need to get back home to family and my job so I can pay for this car.

Fuel/Propulsion System12 complaints

I brought this car 2022 Hyundai Sonata with 41k miles on it and only had it for 6 months. It has cut off 3x so far after putting gas in the tank. Always the same thing, oh nothing is wrong. Obviously there is and I see there is a recall on this car however my VIN isn’t coming up as a recall. This has to be fixed.

NHTSA #11735239

My 2022 Sonata has had to have its fuel injectors replaced two times in the 3 years I've had it. On 12/18/2025 My car started to become very slow and could not reach over 20mph, and started to smell like gasoline and shake slightly. I had to get it towed to the hyundai dealership and there they told me that the fuel injectors need replacing. I had the same exact problem with this car before where I had to get the car towed to hyundai and then they had to replace the fuel injector.

NHTSA #11706285

My 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited had a recall issued on the vehicle. I took my vehicle to a dealership and the recall issue was taken care for my fuel tank. Months after this issue was supposedly resolved, my fuel tank exploded and the car has been totaled.

NHTSA #11711052

I was driving the car home from Massachusetts when, after 6 hours of driving, the car started to shake and would not accelerate. It was also emitting a burning smell. I exited the highway and called for a tow truck. I was told by the Hyundai dealership that, at 4,100 miles, a fuel injector and high pressure rail had failed.

NHTSA #11697227

In November of 2024, I had a Check Engine Light for a Cylinder 2 misfire and a fuel to air mixture ratio. Had it towed to a Hyundai Dealership. Got a call the next day saying it was fixed. Picked the car up and 50 miles later it popped back up. Had it towed back again. They said my fuel injector was cracked. They had to order the fuel injector directly from Korea. Took 5 days to get the part and it installed. Fast forward to September 2025, Cylinder 2 misfire showed up again(same cylinder the fuel injector was replaced) and now the car shakes violently when accelerating and stalled at a stop light. Massive safety concern due to risk of an accident. Car to be towed to another dealership for the same issue less than a year apart.

NHTSA #11684409

Fuel injector failed. The vehicle stall and accelerate poorly due to misfires. It is leaching gasoline into the oil which can result in total engine failure. Dealership verified the injector was bad. There was a warning light at one time after refueling, presumed it was my fuel cap, tightened it, and the light went away.

NHTSA #11685272

The fuel tank expanded/swelled up causing frame damage to the vehicle.

NHTSA #11679597

First owner, sporadic acceleration problems reported from approx 6k miles. Documented with dealership.. “couldn’t reproduce” issue every time I brought it in after an occurrence. Dangerous when entering highway, as I never knew when it would fail/stall. Eventually broke down on busy interstate highway, replaced 1 fuel injector, and guilt tripped me into “needing” to have fuel injector cleaning because the others might fail as well. 27k miles was the first breakdown. 38k was the second breakdown and almost caused a serious accident when I was unable to accelerate. Replacing all 4 fuel injectors but not covering the oil change due to their faulty fuel injectors.

NHTSA #11666438

Fuel Lines and Connections / Fuel Tank Band / Fuel Tank Vapor Vent System Hoses [XXX]: My check engine light illuminated. I immediately returned to Hyundai Riverdale. They advised me it could be the fuel tank and stated they needed to keep the car for 5-7 business days. May 1, 2025: I dropped off my car for inspection, having made arrangements for a personal rental car. May 7, 2025: I received a text message (no phone call) indicating the inspection was complete and was presented with a $3500 bill to replace the entire fuel tank. May 9 or 12, 2025: Marilyn from Hyundai Riverdale called me regarding my vehicle. She explicitly suggested I "contact your insurance company, advise them you hit something on the road, pay the deductible, and they will pay for the repairs." She then stated, "I know you hit something after April 9th because your fuel tank is now damaged." I denied hitting anything. During this call, she mentioned a "RECALL" related to fuel tanks on all Hyundai Sonatas, which I was never previously made aware of. I questioned why I was being charged if there was a recall for the exact issue I was experiencing. She claimed my car was previously checked and the fuel tank was fine, therefore the cost fell to me. May 14, 2025: Merilyn called to inquire if my insurance would cover the repairs. I informed her I was picking up my vehicle as another Hyundai dealership in Newnan was willing to perform the recall repairs for free. Upon arrival at Riverdale, I faced resistance but demanded my car be released. I was then charged a $200 inspection fee, which I refused to pay. Marilyn then provided my keys and, upon learning I planned to drive to Newnan, stated, "I wouldn't feel right letting you drive this car off the lot and something happening to you. Your vehicle at any moment can blow up due to the fuel tank. It's very dangerous to drive and suggest you get a tow truck." April 11-May 1st I drove that vehicle w/no idea it had the potential to blow up. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Car is a Sonata Hybrid Limited equipped with a solar roof which charges the hybrid battery. Vehicle began to cut off battery power while parked, requiring the use of a factory equipped 12V override switch in March 2025 after approximately 3.5 years of ownership. This occurred multiple times, often when the car was parked in the sun but independent of how long it had been driven prior or how long it had sat without being started. Evaluated by two Hyundai dealers; second dealer found a fault in the "solar DCDC converter" as well as the hybrid battery bulging. Battery module replaced. Unclear if this resolves the issue or it will recur again. Am speaking to Hyundai regarding battery warranty extension as vehicle had 88000 miles on it at the time of the issue starting. Online fora (e.g., Reddit, Facebook) note other customers who have had similar problems with similar fixes. - [XXX] - [XXX] - [XXX] - one individual in this thread had complete power loss while driving down the highway This issue potentially risks stranding customers, and if the hybrid battery continues to bulge increases the risk of fire which could lead to property damage, personal injury, or death. NHTSA #11671018

****Answers to questions above**** The dealership determined the fuel injector of cylinder 2 to be malfunctioning and replaced it. My safety was put at risk because my car lost all drive power and I could not get out of other people's way.(I was only going 40 but imagine if it happened at 80 mph on an interstate) The dealership reproduced the issue and fixed it. The dealership also stated that several models of Hyundai using the same fuel injectors had come in with the same failures.(10+ cars) Not all on the same cyclinder either. My vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership at this time. There were no warnings leading up to the failure. ****Full Story**** I was driving at about 40 mph through town and experienced total loss of drive power. The vehicle had electric, but little to no response from the gas pedal. I manged to limp the vehicle about 200 yards to a stop light. The rpms dropped to under 300 and the engine began to idle very rough. I shut the car off while at the red light to save it from any potential internal damage. When the light turned green, I almost could not get the car to start and stay running. There was a very strong gas smell at this point, which I had assumed was coming from the engine. I had to put the gas pedal to the floor to keep it running and ride the brakes through the intersection to not hit the vehicle in front of me. After getting through the intersection, I limped it into the parking lot on the other side. This is when I noticed the check engine light had come on. There was no leaking fluids under the hood or the car. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership.

Power Train10 complaints

My 2022 Hyundai sonata hybrid started blowing white smoke from the exhaust. Took it to the dealership and was advised the valve that controls antifreeze failed and leaking antifreeze in exhaust. This caused the engine to overheat and would cause the engine to blow up. My car has 83,000 and was told the manufacturer warranty only covered to 80,000 and extended warranty would not cover the part. Was told it would cost 2659 to fix. This is part of the hybrid power train and should be covered under the 100,000 Hyundai warranty. I have seen the same issue with other sonata hybrids on the internet that is doing the same as mine. Hyundai needs to recall for this since it is a needed component for the engine.

NHTSA #11709404

Car leaked oil multiple times. First time they said it was a faulty drain plug then after a few months it kept leaking. Took it back to the dealership and they said the gasket around the oil pan was faulty causing the leak and needed replaced.

The vehicle is still under warranty but it has 25k miles and having transmission problems. Shifting from first to second gear I feel hard shifting , also when you prepare to stop it’s hard downshift again, downshift is more hard than up shifting.

NHTSA #11566587

There was a transmission recall that was addressed back in early 2023 by the dealership that presented as a 1st gear stutter within a month of purchasing the car back in May 2022. At the time I was told if the reprogramming didn't work, the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was driven very little but I was told it would need a couple of weeks of regular driving to ensure the fix took. If it didn't I was advised to bring the car in immediately. The car stayed in the garage and didn't get driven until July when it was taken on a 100+mile trip when I realized that the first gear was starting to jerk upon shifting. I finally called Hyundai about possibly trading it in and eventually on Aug 21, 2023 called the service dept to give them a heads up I'm going to bring it in. However was told I would have to now rebook the appointment and got one for Dec 22, 2023. I mentioned that this was under the recall issue but was informed that they would have to do diagnosis to confirm that. In the meantime they didn't offer any other recourse or priority to have this addressed. I can't afford to pay for another vehicle out of pocket in the meantime. Also, now it's showing that recall issue as repaired even though that may have not happened as of now. I'm concerned that something bad might happen in the meantime and I don't seem to have any other options.

NHTSA #11539763

In September 2022 I was driving the car and suddenly kept changing from sports to normal without by itself and then it slows down till engine went off, second incident happened the same exact thing in 17 June 2023, it came out that this issue from Manufacture and I don’t trust this model anymore it became life threatening

NHTSA #11527730

When driving on a highway and wanting to pass a car in front of me at around 70 mph, I depress the accelerate pedal, and the car suddenly lost the power and decrease the speed. I quickly floored the pedal, but nothing happened, nor did the tachometer revs up. Have to pull over on the shoulder and shift from Drive to Park, and from Park to Drive again, the problem solved. There were no warning light or error messages showed during the whole process. Almost got rear ended by the car behind me.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V746000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

NHTSA #11498094

Car sometimes does not accelerate appropriately. Car needs to be shut off and restarted when this happens. Dealerships around me say they don’t see anything wrong with the car. It happens randomly and shouldn’t happen with a brand new car. I feel unsafe when it doesn’t accelerate correctly.

I was driving my yesterday morning like normal, about 15mph getting off of a freeway offramp, when all of the sudden I heard a strange brief noise come from the inside of the car. I couldn't figure it out so I drove home. Went inside for about 20 minutes, went back outside to leave again and I noticed my panoramic sunroof had shattered/exploded from the inside outward. I had it towed to my local dealer in hopes warranty would cove, but I was told it wouldn't. I have to use aftermarket glass with my insurance company to replace it due to Geico not covering OEM glass.

NHTSA #11662701

My vehicle is in the shop now and will be due to 12volt battery charging system failure. I have taken the vehicle to the shop 4 times now because vehicle will not start unless you hit the reset 12volt button. The dealership told me that they were surprised that I was able to start the vehicle. I was told that it is the NHTSA Campaign # 24V868000. This vehicle is not included in this campaign number but it should be. Hyundai needs to include this make and model to the recall so other drivers don't have the same issue and so that they don't find themselves stranded.

I suffered a flat tire and called my husband to change my tire. The jack that was included with the vehicle fell over in the middle of the tire change nearly pinning my husband's hands between the wheel well and the spare tire. The road was level. The jack was simply too small to hold the vehicle up. My car suffered approximately $3000 in damages. I tried to deal with the dealership and Hyundai Consumer Affairs to no avail. These jacks are dangerous and at least the base should be wider to prevent it from tipping.

I leased my brand new Sonata at the end of August in 2022. in November 2022 I was driving on the highway and my vehicle started to decelerate. I stepped on the gas pedal and it just went slow and slower. I was able to make it home but after shutting the car off it would not start again. I had it towed to my dealer and they fixed something with fuel injection. in February 2023 the same thing happened with only 4500 miles on the car except this time my car decelerated so badly I pulled to the side of the road and it immediately died. I had the car towed again and they fixed it again. The car was good for a while but on [XXX] of 2024 the deceleration issue happened again. it did not stall out on me and I was lucky enough to be able to get the car to my dealer to have them do a diagnostic check. They did not find anything. This is baffling to me. I guess I need to break down again for, something to be fixed with this car. my complaint is that while driving my car and if I break down it is unsafe for me and other cars on the road if my vehicle just dies. I do have a job and also like to travel out of town sometimes. I do not feel safe with this car. It broke down twice in the first year so it did not qualify for the lemon law in my state of Pennsylvania. Please provide some information on what I need to do to keep myself and other drivers safe. Car has been running great. We ave had the car almost 3 months. My wife drove the car to church. On the way home the car engine started acting up. She pulled over and called me. I went to where she was about 1 mile from home . My son and I got the car started it would not hardly run we got it home. It was running roughly and smelled like gas making white smoke. A rollback truck picked it up the next day. Took it to the closest dealer in cape Girardeau mo. It has been in the shop3 weeks found out today it will be over another week before Hyundai gets in touch with the dealer about the problem. (Injectors)

Driving on the highway ih35N at 75 mph, my car's engine randomly started violently jerking and then shut off and wouldn't start back up. Had it towed to Hyundai (2022 Hyundai Sonata ~33k miles) took a few days but they repaired it under warranty saying it was bad fuel injectors and they replaced all 4. My car just dying on the highway could of caused a bad accident at that speed. Moving to present day (June 28th, 2025) car is at 56,400 miles and its starting to jerk at low speeds and is getting terrible gas mileage again. I'm taking it back in as I am still under warranty but everything points to fuel injectors again. Only warning lights I get was when the car died on the highway. Just a check engine light.

Vehicle Speed Control4 complaints

In February 2024, on a day with snow on the ground no less, my husband was driving over the Verrazano Bridge from Brooklyn, NY to Staten Island, NY, when the car suddenly started shaking and the speed dropped from 50 to 20 in about 10-30seconds. The car started smoking and filling up with fuel fumes. Cars were beeping at him, almost crashing into the back of the car. He was able to make it to safety and had the car towed to the nearest Hyundai Dealership/service. The issue was an injector. On Saturday, [XXX], I got into the car with my two children (age [XXX] and [XXX] old). The car started shaking, all of the check engine lights flew on, the car quickly filled up with fumes, the exhaust was smoking, and the RPM Dial was dancing. I have never been so terrified. The car was towed and again the issue was diagnosed as an injector. Not the same one, a different one. I have been told by my local Hyundai that this is an ongoing issue and that Hyundai only changes 1 at a time, knowing that the others may be faulty. This is unacceptable. These cars need to be recalled immediately. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was pulling into a parking space at my church, same place I routinely parked. I was moving forward slowly with foot on brake alternating lifting foot to move forward until I was all the way in. As I lifted my foot from the brake, the car suddenly accelerated forward, going over the cement parking block, on to the grass and sidewalk before it stopped. Two metal handrails along the steps into the larger parking lot. Fortunately, no one was hit or injured, including myself. The result was major damage of the left side. Aside from the exterior, the car worked as it always has. I reported the collision to my insurance company, State Farm, and they directed me to a Hyundai repair shop. I know the fault was not mine for 3 reasons: 1) Once I turn into a spot to park, I always move slow, using the method mentioned above. I never use the gas pedal once I'm facing straight in the parking space; 2) My word would, of course, not be enough to relieve me of the responsibility for what happened. However, if I had stepped on the gas, though I know I didn't, the car would not be able to go from just stopping its forward move to the sudden and very fast acceleration that normally would require several seconds to reach that speed; and, 3) This was the 2nd time sudden acceleration happened, the 1st time was in June 2024 during a 3-point turn on a residential street. I completed the turn, ready to go forward, when the car suddenly and rapidly accelerated, jumping a curb and hitting a fire hydrant. My left front grill sustained damage, but since the car worked well, I did not report this to State Farm, waiting until I was willing to pay the deductible. This 2nd episode had me researching the Internet to see if there were others who experienced sudden accelerating with resulting fatalities. I believe my car has a defect and gives no warning when it will occur. My driving record is excellent. I don't speed and I drive defensively. My 2 brothers and 2 male in-laws said I'm a good driver

On multiple occasions, the car has intermittent acceleration issues and hesitates when the automatic transmission is shifting to the next gear. Without warning, the car completely turned off - engine failed - while driving and in the middle of making a turn, and luckily oncoming traffic stopped in time before we were in an accident. The local dealer has been unable to replicate the problem; however, there is an open recall on the same make and model but my VIN is not currently included in this recall. This is not a coincidence and this vehicle is not safe to drive. I also already contacted Hyundai directly but the case manager has yet to resolve the issue, just says the VIN is not part of the recall.

I purchased the car new and three times since then, the latest last week, the automatic brakes kicked in briefly for no apparent reason. I feel that if a vehicle would have been directly behind me this could very well have caused an accident. Each time it happened it was during daylight and fair weather although I can't remember if the sun was shinning. After the second time it happened I reported it to the dealer and they said they had no recalls on it and no explanation but if it happened again I should record all circumstances to investigate the cause. A couple years went by and it didn't happen again until last week. Now the warranty has expired on my car. No one has inspected my car; It has driven fine except for when the automatic braking problem occurs. There were no warning or indicator lights that I noticed at the time.

My windshield cracked with no discernable impact or reason. The windshields for the vehicle are too thin for use on a highway and crack too easily. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk, as well as affecting safety mechanisms related to or mounted to the windshield. Our 2022 Hyundai Sonata experienced multiple issues related to recalls affecting the vehicle’s reliability and operation. Due to these ongoing problems, the vehicle was taken to a dealership and has remained out of service and in dealership possession for approximately 90 days. The issues were confirmed by the dealership, and Hyundai Motor America was involved in the case. As a result, Hyundai approved a full buyback of the vehicle, indicating the problems could not be resolved in a reasonable timeframe. Despite this, the vehicle remains out of service and unusable. Hyundai has failed to complete the buyback process and has not provided a resolution within a reasonable time. There have been repeated delays and missed timelines. The extended period without a functioning vehicle creates reliability concerns and potential safety risks, as the vehicle could not be safely depended on for regular use prior to being removed from service. The vehicle is currently still in dealership possession and unavailable for use.

My car has been experiencing air defects when it would randomly stop working. Last month my car air stopped working after I picked my pet up from the groomers and all together on the service road my car shut down. After being towed to Hyundai dealership I was being demanded that I ride on E and that it could’ve been my fuel injector. After realizing it was not that they claimed it was a failed fuel pump. After paying and recording my car back not even 8 hours later my car would not turn over again with no air causing me to get towed a second time. The dealership couldn’t diagnose what’s wrong with my car so they tried to throw false accusations as to my old gas can that stays in my truck that the smell of gas is the reason why they can’t properly diagnose my car. After getting my car back and driving it home, after turning it off and back in case duplicated the same problems with me. Wouldn’t turn over or produce air. Dealership refuse to comment on the paperwork if the problems they ran into but rather called me. After keeping my car a week to drive it the problem didn’t duplicate. I’ve had my car for about 3 weeks now and the air still give me problems and don’t want to come on every now And then

I know the service people will be keeping the car for week to resolve this since the whole dashboard will be removed. I was told a representative from hyundi will be contacting me on the 5th wich I doubt will happen because when I had a problem in April 2023 I was told the same thing I had the phone nearby all day and no one ever called and I am assuming the same will happen on the 5th. The vehicle’s fuel tank system failed catastrophically. The vehicle is currently grounded and has been inspected at the Hyundai dealership service center where it was towed. My safety and the safety of everyone on the road was put at extreme risk due to a severe fire and explosion hazard. Additionally, the defect caused the vehicle to suddenly lose power, sputter, and threaten to stall out while driving on a major interstate, creating an immediate risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. When attempting to add fuel, the pressurized tank forcefully spit gasoline back out of the filler neck, creating an active chemical and fire hazard at a public gas station. I was able to drive it home and called via Hyundai Roadside Assistance to have it towed to an authorized Hyundai dealership service department. On June 15th, 2026, the dealership service technicians officially confirmed the failure, stating that the fuel tank had expanded, the back floor base of the car was melting, and the vehicle was on the verge of exploding.

I am experiencing an electrical malfunction with the driver-side door controls and side mirrors on my 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited. The buttons on the driver’s door panel intermittently stop responding, and the lights on the panel flicker. At the same time, the side mirrors move up and down randomly, without any input from me. This issue occurs while the vehicle is both stationary and in motion. This malfunction affects the visibility and safe operation of the vehicle, as it can disrupt mirror adjustments while driving. I am concerned that this could be a potential safety hazard, especially at night or in high-traffic situations. I have researched online and found that other Hyundai owners have reported similar electrical issues with door controls and mirrors in recent models. I would like the NHTSA to investigate whether this is a widespread issue and determine if Hyundai needs to issue a recall or a technical service bulletin (TSB) to address this safety concern.

Since a few weeks after buying the car new, the battery dies and self resets every few weeks on average. For the last could months, car now has 26-27K miles and is 21-23 months old, it had mostly stopped resetting. It now is dead when I go out to it, even after only a couple hours of it being parked at night or during the day. I have to manually access the car and use the battery reset button. They observe no error codes. I have read other people have the failure while driving and fear and electrical issue could be a fire hazard. At the very least, it is a personal safety issue in making me take time to access my car, which could increase my risk of being attacked while trying to get into my car safely. As I was driving my dashboard lit up with warning lights and audible alarms indicating that I should inspect my regen brake. Safety features such as lane departure, lane assist, blind spot indicator stopped functioning and my speedometer did not work. I stopped the car and looked behind the front wheels and nothing looked “unusual”. I restarted the car and all of the alarms went off again, leaving me without a speedometer or the safety features mentioned above. I scheduled an appointment with my dealership explaining what had happened. They did a diagnostic test and determined that it was a faulty E Brake Module that needed to be replaced but is on back order with no parts available in the US to order. Furthermore they do not know when a replacement is available. They reset the sensors so that my safety features were restored. This is the second time within a 14 months of purchasing the brand new vehicle that electrical systems have needed to be replaced. The first time was a faulty wiring harness located in the trunk area that the dealership had said “must have been damaged during installation at the factory”. Again-when I driving at highway speeds suddenly the alarms and warning lights were triggered-leaving me without the same safety features, speedometer and power steering/brakes. The dealership was able to replace the wiring harness and the problem seemed to be resolved until this latest incident.

Shifter system malfunction service immediately was displayed on my dash 10+ times which caused me to not be able to shift my car out of drive or whatever gear I was in when this occurred. I was at an intersection and when I was coming to a stop the car displayed this error code and wouldn’t allow me to go until I turned the car off and on twice till it was able to reset back to park then allowing me to start and shift to drive to actually go. This jeopardizes my safety and the safety of others considering my car could give out or not change gears at any given point. This is extremely concerning. The problem has not been reproduced by the dealership but has been in 2 times for this issue within a month. I took pictures and showed it to the dealership and they said Hyundai won’t cover it. Power Train,Vehicle Speed Control1 complaint

When driving down a hill, I downshifted to slow my descent and to not have to use the brakes as much. I downshifted once or twice making sure the engine didn't go far above 3000 RPM. The gear indicator showed 2nd gear but I knew that wasn't accurate because the car had yet to change gear and the RPM was too low for 2nd gear, I was still in 3rd or 4th gear. About a second or two goes by until the car slams into gear incredibly hard, physically jolting me and the car. The engine revved up loudly to about 4-5K RPM. Had a car been closer behind me, they could have run into me. There were absolutely no warning lights or indicators before or after the incident. The transmission had been shifting noticeably more rough for a few weeks after and perhaps a bit before the incident. The transmission always felt rough up until 4th gear when travelling at slow speeds. but this was something else. It hasn't happened again to the same degree but there have been automatic shifts on its own that are uncomfortable feeling. I have not had the car inspected yet because it is difficult to find a dealership appointment that isn't 2+ months in the future. I had scheduled a full thorough inspection with all of my complaints but had to cancel to due personal reasons.

Suspension,Wheels1 complaint

The rear sets (left rear, and right rear) of wheel bearing and hub assemble for a new SONATA is really a terrible-quality parts. It deformed at a few thousand miles since delivery as a new car (i.e. I found it at 2400 miles, so it starts to deform and going bad earlier than 2400miles). As results, the two rear wheel and tires cannot go straightforward, rear wheels and tires are yawing during normal driving. And I am feeling jumping, shaking due to imbalance nature of wheel bearing, hub assembly and wheel tires. It is really dangerous, as wheel and tire could be falling off on highway. I don't know what kind of materials are being used for a new hyundai sonata. Please

Electrical System,Engine1 complaint

Our 2022 Hyundai Sonata completely shuts down while driving. We purchased the vehicle in May 2022 and since then it has died over 10 times and has almost caused multiple accidents. We have 3 video footage that we have shown Hyundai corporate and the dealership service technicians. They drive the vehicle a few miles and give it back unable to duplicate it. Hyundai refuses to buyback the vehicle due to safety concerns. We do not know what more we can do and have been working on this since August. We no longer drive this vehicle as it is too dangerous and will eventually cause an accident.

Back Over Prevention,Forward Collision Avoidance1 complaint

When backing up the vehicle we break when no objects are present. When stopped at a light, the vehicle will detect that cars are too close or will sense objects are around when nothing is around. The collision warning will sound at random times.

Other1 complaint

I’m reaching out to report the troubles and functioning of my Hyundai Sonata 2022. I am the first owner and received the car January 7, 2022. The car started with a loud nose under the hood . That happened maybe four times. Then the car began to switch gears on its on. I would park the car and press P for park but the car would go to N instead . That happened about 20-30 times . Now the car is randomly switching gears while at stop lights. While at a pause the car automatically shuts off which is normal. Recently the car would be at a light and switch gears . I was at a light when the car shut down and went to D, N , and stayed in R. I had to cut my car off just for it to go to P and then D , all while the light was red. If I didn’t, I would have backed into the person behind me . The self driving is not accurate at all and the car does tries to play blue tooth and apple play at the same time . I’m reaching out because I’ve been to the dealership multiple time to have it checked out and they found nothing wrong. I will be making another appointment for this Friday, May 6, 2022. I need to know what is going to be done and how should I go about this if it is said that nothing is wrong once again .
