Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

NHTSA #19V802000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020 Palisade vehicles. The mounting bolts used to secure the side curtain air bags may damage the side curtain air bags during deployment.

Reported consequence: Damaged side curtain air bags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover on the mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began December 20, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 186.

TRAILER HITCHES

NHTSA #22V633000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling 2020-2022 Palisade vehicles potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a Hyundai dealership. Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.

Reported consequence: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will install a new fuse and wire extension kit, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 18, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 235.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR

NHTSA #22V627000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Palisade vehicles. The windshield wiper motor may become inoperative, causing the wipers to fail.

Reported consequence: Windshield wiper failure can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver-side windshield wiper arm, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 13, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 233.

SEAT BELTS: REAR/OTHER:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY

NHTSA #25V607000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats may fail to latch.

Reported consequence: Seat belt buckles that fail to latch may not properly restrain occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Passengers are advised to insert the belt firmly into the buckle with a quick and direct motion, pulling on the belt to confirm the seat belt is fully secured, until the recall remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning October 23, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated June 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 283. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 13, 2025.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN

NHTSA #26V034000

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The side curtain air bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

Reported consequence: Improper side curtain air bag deployment increases the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: The remedy is currently under development. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 292. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 24, 2026.

Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Engine31 complaints

The engine burns oil excessively and the oil light does NOT come on when the oil is low. Our car is right at 90k miles, it began to shudder and malfunction out of the blue while we were driving on the highway. There was absolutely no indication the oil was low. Now the car will not turn on at all. We were in between oil changes. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the engine blew with no warning. The vehicle has been serviced repeatedly by Hyundai for this issue, and they are trying to tell us that it is normal for oil to completely burn out in between oil changes.

NHTSA #11740050

Driving down road in early afternoon at about 35 mph. Car began to run rough (jutter) then almost immediately stalled. The car’s engine icon appeared on the screen along with verbiage indicating service engine soon. After about 3-5 minutes, I started the car and drove it directly into a parking lot approximately 100 feet from where the car stalled. I had the car towed to a repair shop in town. The following day the service adviser called after doing diagnostics and indicated the car had no oil (It was approximately 3,400 miles since my last oil change). The technician explained there were some minute cracks in the oil filter cap but nothing that would warrant such a large loss of oil. An oil change was done, the oil filter cap was replaced with an aftermarket cap, and the car was returned to me. I have contacted the service department of the Hyundai Dealership where the car was purchased and am awaiting a call back.

Component: Engine / Engine and Engine Cooling Description: My 2020 Hyundai Palisade (approximately 155,856 miles) experienced a serious and dangerous engine-related failure that resulted in a vehicle fire. For approximately 8 months prior to the incident, the vehicle was consuming oil at an abnormal rate with no visible external leaks. This condition persisted without clear cause. While my [XXX] daughter was driving, the vehicle suddenly developed a new oil leak, and the engine failed without warning, leaving my daughter stranded on the roadway. Immediately following the failure, the engine compartment caught fire. There were no prior indications of an active oil leak before this sudden failure. The progression from oil consumption to catastrophic failure and fire presents a serious safety concern. This incident created a dangerous situation with risk of injury or worse, and it appears to be more than normal wear and tear. I am reporting this as a potential safety defect involving engine failure and fire risk. Mileage at time of incident: approximately 155,000 miles No prior accident or external cause contributed to the fire. Component: Engine My 2020 Hyundai Palisade (approximately 155,856 miles) experienced a serious and dangerous engine-related failure that resulted in a vehicle fire. My 16 year old daughter was driving alone at the time of the catastrophic failure and fire. For approximately six months prior to the incident, the vehicle was consuming oil at an abnormal rate with no visible external leaks. This condition persisted without clear cause. While driving, the vehicle suddenly developed a new oil leak, and the engine failed without warning, leaving me stranded on the roadway. Immediately following the failure, the engine compartment caught fire. There were no prior indications of an active oil leak before this sudden failure. Last year while traveling on vacation, my family was on the interstate crusing at approximately 70 MPH when the Hyundai Palisade suddenly started shaking and slowing down. It was shaking so bad, I ended up having to turn on my flashers because the vehicle would not accelerate up hill while pressing on the gas pedal. Thankfully, I was able to exit the highway and located a Hyundai dealership about 15 miles away in Jasper, AL. The dealership service department was very nice and indicated my engine oil was low. I could not figure out why this happened because we have always changed the oil at recommended intervals but once the dealership changed the oil, the check engine light turned off and we were able to proceed on our trip. Last night, we were traveling from [XXX] international airport back to [XXX] and the same pattern started all over again. After conducting some internet research based on the 2020 Palisade SEL, it appears this is a common issue for vehicles just under 100k miles. The reason I am reporting this is because Hyundai Corporate should do the right thing in this situation, by offering to replace the engine since I am within the 100k mile powertrain warranty period. I plan to take the vehicle to my local dealership today becuase there are two outstanding recalls, one of which is considered more serious due to a seatbelt latch. We waited over a month to schedule this service and the local dealership cancelled our appointment and didnt even offer to contact us to tell us this. The seatbelt issue is still not resolved and now we need Hyundai to perform oil consumption testing because the vehicle should not be burning this amount of oil while driving at speeds over 55MPH or over. NHTSA #11724700

It is burning much more oil per 1000 miles than the Hyundai website says is normal. It has kept burning oil at a very high and abnormal rate. To the point of having to carry oil while driving. Nothing happened to make this start, it just began!

NHTSA #11736804

The engine burns 1 quart per 1000 miles of driving

NHTSA #11722650

Vehicle is consuming or burning oil at a high rate. While dealer has done an oil consumption test and claimed it was "within tolerance," I have on multiple occasions had the car start to shudder at 2,000 miles since last oil change only to find the oil wasn't even on the stick anymore. The symptoms go away when adding oil, on some occasions more than 4 quarts of oil need to be added to get the oil to "full" on the dip stick. Multiple independent service centers have noted how dirty the oil is and how little is drained on oil change. No warning lights have come on at any time, even when car is making grinding noises and shuddering with no oil. This causes a safety issue as drivers reasonably expect to go at least 3,000 miles between oil changes and the engine could seize in traffic. Owners are being tacitly asked to add oil regularly to keep the engine functioning properly.

NHTSA #11721701

I am reporting a safety concern involving repeated engine stalling while driving my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle has stalled a total of seven times during normal operation. Most of the incidents occurred while slowing down or stopped at intersections and traffic lights. In these situations, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. I was forced to immediately shift the vehicle into park and restart the engine to continue driving. The check engine light did illuminate in connection with this issue. These incidents create a serious safety hazard, as sudden engine shutdown in active traffic increases the risk of rear-end collision. The loss of engine power occurs unexpectedly and without sufficient warning. The vehicle has been inspected, and I was informed that the issue may involve internal engine malfunction requiring major repairs. Because this vehicle has experienced multiple unexpected stalls in traffic, I am submitting this complaint due to the significant safety risk posed by sudden engine failure during operation.

NHTSA #11720456

Dear NHTSA, I'm reporting a serious safety issue with my 2020 Hyundai Palisade (3.8L V6) involving excessive oil consumption without low-oil warning lights. Timeline: Oil changed: August 13, 2025 → Engine stalling/rough idle → Checked Oct 27, 2025: completely out of oil Oil changed again: October 27, 2025 → Same symptoms recur → January 16, 2026: completely out of oil again Usage: ~300 miles/week (1,200 miles/4 months) using full synthetic 5W-30—far below Hyundai's 7,500-10,000 mile interval. Safety Risk: No low oil warning despite total depletion x2, risking catastrophic engine failure while driving. Known Lambda II V6 issue per TSB 20-01-0001. Request: Investigation into oil consumption recall and sensor failure.

NHTSA #11711422

On roadtrip with family to daughter’s soccer tournament. Car started to shift funny then engine light turned on along with warning display saying something was wrong with the engine. We were only hour into driving so drove hour back home to dealership/service for Hyundai. They looked over the car and reported that we did the right thing by bringing it back and not continuing our roadtrip with it. The thermostat wasn’t working which would cause issues to engine with overheating and putting my family at risk with driving it on road trip with engine overheating.

NHTSA #11693036

Engine stall from excessive oil consumption. Oil and engine light not turning on prior to stall.

NHTSA #11692752

Vehicle started rattling at 96k miles with no check engine light. Performed diagnostics and found that the vehicle had zero oil inside. Determined that there was no sign of an oil leak and that the engine had internally consumed all of the oil. The rattling still exists and when reported to Hyundai, they sent me away and said to come back after 1k miles to see if it’s consumed 1.1 quarts and only then they will clean the engine and see if that helps and if after another 1,000 miles I still am consuming oil, they will replace the engine. They are refusing to provide a loaner vehicle throughout this process as well.

NHTSA #11691710

Twice the engine oil consumption was bone dry. No warning lights or oil leaks on the driveway were seen. The engine without oil was subject to destruction . We replaced the oil twice - with documentation . Oil changes were made within 6 months since we purchased the car ( documentation was given ). It is known that specific models were affected by a bad engine that was installed ! Hyundai has offered nothing but aggravation even though it is known that there is a problem with specific engines that were put into the 2020 Hyundai palisade .

NHTSA #11701225

2020 Hyundai Palisade, VIN: [XXX] . Excessive engine oil consumption beginning at ~95,418 miles. Oil drops to critical levels between oil changes, causing engine hesitation, rough running, and Check Engine Light activation — CEL clears only after oil is manually added, confirming oil starvation as the cause. SAFETY RISKS: Engine seizure or stall at highway speed; engine fire from oil burning on hot components; sudden loss of vehicle control; CEL only illuminates after oil is already critical, leaving no safe warning window. DEALER: Vehicle brought to dealership in [XXX] on 8/25/25 (95,451 mi) and Barnes Crossing Hyundai, [XXX] on 4/22/26 (99,969 mi). RO# XXX/1. HMA Case# XXX. Both dealers confirmed abnormal oil consumption. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE: Hyundai Motor America denied all repair or engine replacement solely because the title was transferred from a family member. Hyundai's own XXX (Dec. 2023) acknowledges systemic oil consumption across all Hyundai gasoline engines and mandates a repair protocol including engine replacement. A title transfer does not cause a mechanical defect and Hyundai failed to apply its own TSB procedures before denial. REQUESTED ACTION: Investigate HMA's pattern of denying TXXX remedies after title transfers; compel engine repair/replacement at no cost; evaluate safety recall eligibility. engine is consuming alot of oil i have to put a quart every week and it has a smell of burning near the engine and white smoke at the back tail pipe.

NHTSA #11718428

This vehicle has excessive oil consumption, and the low oil light does not light up to tell you that you are low on oil. I only noticed that I was low on oil because the engine starts knocking and started to stall. I had the oil changed according to all service intervals and at one point the dealership told me my car had no oil left in it. I just had it changed, drove about 2k miles and already had to put more oil in because it didn't even show any oil on the dip stick. This is a safety hazard as well as an environmental problem with these vehicles burning this much oil. This started happening around 80-90k miles on the engine.

NHTSA #11678392

Engine started burning oil at 65000 miles. It has now run almost completely out of oil twice at about 4200 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low.

Here’s a more professional, structured version of your complaint while still clearly conveying the seriousness of the situation: ⸻ I am writing to formally express my concern regarding a 2020 Hyundai Palisade that I purchased from a dealership less than one year ago, along with an extended warranty. Since the time of purchase, the vehicle has experienced ongoing and significant oil consumption issues. In fact, it has spent a substantial amount of time in the repair shop—arguably more time than it has been in my possession. Despite these repeated service visits, the problem has not been resolved. The vehicle is currently consuming more than 1.5 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles, which is well beyond what would be considered normal. I have completed an official oil consumption test to document this issue. Notably, these problems began prior to even the first oil change after purchase, indicating that the condition likely existed at the time of sale. Despite the documented issue, both Hyundai Motor Company and the extended warranty provider have denied coverage for repairs. As a result, I am left with a vehicle that has a serious mechanical defect and a high risk of engine failure. I invested approximately 29,000 in this vehicle, and I am now facing the prospect of catastrophic engine damage due to a known issue that has been widely reported with similar vehicles. This situation is extremely concerning and has left me feeling misled and unfairly treated. I am seeking a fair resolution to this matter, including appropriate repair, replacement, or compensation, given the circumstances and the documentation supporting this claim.

NHTSA #11729642

SUV is consuming oil prior to 5000 miles. I went to the dealer in June after noticing my SUV shuttering and almost shutting off while accelerating and it was noted that all of my oil was gone. I was instructed to get an oil change. I came back a month and a half later and all of my oil was gone again and it had been less than 5000 miles since the last oil change. I was instructed to get another oil change and come back in 1000 miles. It has been 3 weeks and I came back 1000 miles later with most of the oil gone. Diagnostic showed internal damage and the valve seal is leaking internally. There were no warning lights. I am waiting for further inspection by the dealer.

NHTSA #11683799

Hello, I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade that was bought last year in 2024. It’s had no issues with the engine up until approximately the last 2 weeks with oil consumption and noises from the engine rattling. I contacted the dealership to get it checked out and on the way there it caught fire. The engine died and almost all of the oil leaked out. The engine block now has a hole in it, so it is unable to be driven. My husband was driving and had just had surgery. Thankfully I was driving in a separate vehicle with my kids in case something like this happened. It has been sitting at the dealership since the 28th of May. The dealership inspected it and said there is no known cause at this time. The dealership also said they unfortunately can’t do anything. I called my insurance and they said the only thing they can cover is the damages caused by the fire. The estimate amount to fix it is 13K. But I believe the engine malfunctioned and was already having problems without my knowledge of it. There were no warning lights or alerts stating there were any problems with the vehicle. I also do know there is a class action lawsuit happening because of the 2020 Hyundai Palisades.

NHTSA #11665566

Experienced complete engine failure. Car was at a Certified Hyundai dealership 2 weeks prior for new plugs and new coil pack. Multiple point inspection with no noted issues. Driving on a 3 hour trip when suddenly the engine started knocking without an engine light or oil light coming on. Pulled over and no oil on the dip stick. The same dealership did an oil change at 86,000 miles now the car has 92,000. No oil change suggested at last visit. Sounds very similar to other recall descriptions. Please review

NHTSA #11659631

This report describes a catastrophic engine failure, framing the event in the context of the widespread Hyundai GDI engine oil consumption issue and its impact on oil-dependent systems like the CVVT/OCV. Description of Incident @ 148,000 miles my vehicle oil was changed. On May 15, 2025, @ 151,000 miles my 2020 Hyundai Palisade was serviced at Patterson Hyundai Tyler (3120 S SW Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701) for the replacement of the oil intake valve (OCV/CVVT solenoid). With reports of oil consumption. This type of service is often necessitated by sludge or contamination from excessive oil consumption clogging the valve screens and restricting oil flow to the VVT system. Shortly after this service, on 05/22/25, the engine experienced a catastrophic failure. There was an immediate and loud metallic grinding noise (consistent with severe internal bearing/connecting rod damage), followed by complete loss of engine power and instantaneous stalling. The failure is assessed to be a result of the underlying GDI defect related to excessive oil consumption, which can lead to internal engine starvation. This starvation may have been triggered or exacerbated by a failure within the oil circulation path (potentially involving the recently serviced OCV or adjacent components). The vehicle is part of the population of Hyundai GDI engines known for issues where low oil levels—due to consumption—or contamination lead to bearing and connecting rod failure. The vehicle has all maintence records and can provide them. The vehicle is currently located at Greenville Hyundai at 5395 I-30 Frontage Rd, Greenville, TX 75402 and is available for inspection upon request. Service Manager is Isaac.

Follow-Up Complaint – Engine Failure on 2020 Hyundai Palisade (VIN: [XXX] ) I am following up on a previous complaint regarding a complete engine failure in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased the vehicle from CarMax in 2023 and was never made aware of any known engine issues. I also signed the required Lemon Law disclosure form at purchase, which did not indicate any concerns with the engine. My vehicle experienced a sudden and total engine failure, despite being properly maintained. This failure mirrors the symptoms of engine problems that have led to multiple Hyundai recalls in other models with similar engine configurations. Although my VIN is not included in the current recall list, my engine failure is consistent with those affected, indicating a broader issue that Hyundai has not fully addressed. The engine failed prematurely and unexpectedly, which is both a serious safety hazard and a financial burden. I am now stuck with an inoperable vehicle and costly repair needs due to a failure that appears to stem from a manufacturer defect. This situation reflects a pattern of engine-related issues across Hyundai vehicles. I urge NHTSA to investigate whether the 2020 Palisade should be included in Hyundai’s ongoing or expanded recalls. Hyundai must be held accountable for engine defects—regardless of whether a VIN is currently listed. I am requesting that this matter be escalated and reconsidered. Sincerely, [XXX] VIN: [XXX] Purchased: 2023 from CarMax Mileage at failure: [Insert Approx. NHTSA #11682068

Engine is burning/consuming EXCESSIVE oil before required oil change. The oil levels are low enough that the vehicle will shutter or stall when coming to a stop. There are NO INDICATOR lights to advise of low oil, or NO oil!! This is a known issue with 2020 Hyundai Palisades.

NHTSA #11708482

Car consumes oil, no oil light comes on, no oil on the driveway.

NHTSA #11669401

I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade, which has experienced a sudden and complete engine failure. This issue poses serious safety concerns and appears consistent with widespread reports of engine-related defects in Hyundai vehicles. I purchased this vehicle in 2023 from CarMax as a used vehicle, and at the time of purchase, I signed all necessary documents, including the federally required Lemon Law Disclosure form. This document is intended to protect consumers and ensure transparency about any known issues or potential defects associated with the vehicle. At no time was I informed that my vehicle may be subject to engine-related concerns that could result in total engine failure. Recently, my Hyundai Palisade’s engine failed, requiring a full replacement. I have discovered that Hyundai has issued multiple recalls in recent years related to defective engines in various models due to manufacturing flaws that can lead to knocking, stalling, or engine seizure—all of which create serious safety hazards. Although my vehicle is not currently listed under a recall, it is highly suspicious that I am facing the exact same problem affecting thousands of other Hyundai owners. This situation is unacceptable and undermines consumer trust. I urge the NHTSA to investigate whether the 2020 Hyundai Palisade should be included in existing or new recall campaigns related to engine defects. No consumer should bear the burden of an expensive engine replacement when manufacturer defects are clearly a pattern within the brand. Please advise me of any steps I can take to formally escalate this matter and ensure Hyundai is held accountable for this serious failure.

NHTSA #11657543

2020 Hyundai Palisade with Lambda II 3.8L GDI V6 (G6DJ) engine experienced complete engine failure due to oil starvation from excessive oil consumption through piston ring bypass. No oil warning light illuminated prior to failure. Engine consumed oil silently between service intervals until catastrophic failure. Vehicle became undriveable. HMA issued TSB 21-EM-003H addressing oil consumption in other Hyundai engine variants but explicitly excluded the Lambda II V6 (G6DJ) from the bulletin's scope despite the same piston ring bypass defect being present. HMA subsequently issued Campaign 9C9 referencing Palisade oil consumption but with no defined remedy and inadequate owner notification. Vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned Hyundai. At time of CPO sale, HMA had documented knowledge of the Lambda II oil consumption defect. HMA denied warranty coverage for engine replacement, estimated at $12,000. HMA's own TSB establishes 1 quart per 1,000 miles as the threshold for defective consumption. Independent engineering analysis confirms the Lambda II G6DJ piston ring geometry produces oil bypass consistent with that defect threshold. Engine is available for inspection upon request. Defect was confirmed by HMA-authorized dealership oil consumption test. No warning lamps appeared prior to failure. This defect is believed to affect a large number of Lambda II-equipped vehicles sold in the [XXX]. Prior federal class action litigation (XXX v. Hyundai Motor America, C.D. Cal.) documented HMA's corporate knowledge of the Lambda II oil consumption defect prior to the date of this vehicle's CPO sale. NHTSA #11744101

My car has been diagnosed, by a dealership, with excessive oil consumption due to a faulty piston ring which caused there to be no compression in cylinder 1. Initially my car had smoke coming from the tailpipe, then it started to shake while idling and the check engine light came on (delearship cleared it), then it overheated on me while going down the road with no warning whatsoever. Each time there was no oil on the lipstick. This is dangerous for people to not have any warning as to when the car is going to overheat until its already overheating. It could potentially set on fire while going down the highway with my [XXX] and [XXX] old. As soon as I put oil in it, it runs totally fine. I have voice recordings to confirm the diagnosis. I have a 2020 palisade limited with the self leveling shocks. I have about 78,000 miles on the car. I am on my second set of replacement of the rear shocks. Well, guess what? I’m starting to hear that clunking noise again. I love my palisade but quickly becoming tired of this issue. I relaced the shocks last summer (Aug 2025). So, just less than one year after the replacement the noise is back and the smoothness of driving is gone. Every hole feels extremely rough.

NHTSA #11742108

I purchased a new 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL. When I only had 47,683 miles I had my rear shocks replaced for the third time. Poor handling, and noise when the shocks fail. The shocks needing replaced was confirmed by the dealer service department. No warning lamps or messages were displayed.

NHTSA #11712271

I purchased this vehicle with 18,000 miles on the odometer. I am not a reckless driver, and primarily commute to and from work on paved roads. At 29366 miles, I had to have one of the rear shock absorbers replaced after it started making a strange noise. Again at 49596 miles, both rear shock absorbers had to be replaced. I recently took this car back to the shop with 86000 miles on the odometer and once again the shocks are having to be replaced. This is a known defect with Hyundai's self leveling rear shocks. The first two incidents were covered under warranty, but Hyundai is refusing the replace them this time because it is no longer under the manufacturer warranty.

The rear shocks wear out extremely quickly and require replacement every 10-20K miles. They make an awful clicking noise on acceleration, deceleration, and turning. The dealer has seen it, diagnosed the problem, and refused to cover even under their extended warranty that I purchased.

NHTSA #11691856

Rear driver side shock is bad loud bumping noise while driving makes car very unsettling feels unsafe

NHTSA #11693415

Rear shocks leaking and fail inspection. This was confirmed by both the dealer and independent service center. There were no warnings. This is the second time the same shocks have needed to be replaced. The first time they lasted 3 years, the second time two years. This is an endemic problem with these shocks affecting both the original and OEM replacement parts.

NHTSA #11682924

Suspension failure - shock absorbers Sever bouncing caused - unsafe for rear passengers Replaced absorbers - problem reoccurred within 5k miles Dealership inspection - part failure again no warnings, sudden popping sound with increased bouncing. This makes the car unsuitable to drive safely.

The rear struts are failed within a very short amount of mileage driven. Warrantied twice, but fail again after 20-30k miles. Safety concerned because boucy ride can result in lost of control when hitting bump in the corner. No warning lamps or messages appeared. However, clunking noise from the back.

Car has 45,000 miles and the rear shocks are blown and making a rattling popping noise.

Rear suspension making popping sound at low speed. Rear shocks have also seemed not performing properly over potholes at one time causing an error code for the AWD system. Had local dealer make repairs for TSB for this know issue of shock mounting insulators. Vehicle noise was fixed and ride seemed to be improved for about one day then it started making same popping sound again at slow speeds. Assuming rough ride will return shortly.

NHTSA #11680264

Vehicle is experiencing a breakdown in chassis with the failure of at least one rear selfleveling shock absorber on the right rear suspension of the vehicle and possibly the same condition exists on the left rear suspension. Concern exists for the shock absorber mount to completely become detached from the frame assembly resulting in loss of stability and vehicle control. Hyundai dearlership has been contacted for assistance in remedy of the situation but they have failer to respond to request for replacement/repair of the failed shock absorber mount which has been been noted in a Hyundai Service bulletin.

Have a 2020 palisade unlimited with self leveling shocks, started hearing clunking, knocking noise in rear. Have 74k miles currently but started hearing knocking sound at about 55k miles. Replaced shock mounts on both sides which didn’t fix the problem.

TSB # MC-10207814-0001 I Have already had this repaired once, in 2023 and the other in 2024. My vehicle is now out of warranty, and Hyundai won't do anything for this fix. Looking online, there are plenty other complaints regarding the rattling noise experienced with this issue. I believe this should become a recall, and all vehicles on the road should be able to get this replaced in or out of warranty.

NHTSA #11676645

The rear shocks have gone bad 2 times already, and now are bad a third time at 28,000 miles. The shocks begin to clunk and the rear end vibrates over bumps.

The rear shock absorbers and mounts fail. This is the second occurrence of this failure. The first occurrence was covered under warranty at 36,530 miles on [XXX]. The current failure was documented on [XXX] with 64,249 miles. This problem is a recognized issue and has been documented on numerous postings on [XXX] . OEM shocks are clunky and noisy. Exhibit a rattling sound at lower speeds namely at rear right. Noise is progressive and noticeable at higher speeds as time goes on.

NHTSA #11659519

The shocks have been worn out, clunking and not damping bumps. It causes excessive bounce making the vehicle hard to control on the road. It has been verified by a shop and no warning signs on dash.

NHTSA #11670234

Rear suspension has failed. Back of car bounces on slightest of rough roads. Ride is very rough for passengers in back two rows. Driver and front passenger also experience bumpy ride that was not there before. When researching, this seems to be a common issue for Palisades with self leveling rear suspension. Car does not seem safe from bouncing due to rear suspension failure.

NHTSA #11640538

When driving vehicle there is a loud thumping sound coming from the back end of car and when driving through unstable terrain you could actually hear it more.

NHTSA #11730653

The ride is extremely bumpy, especially for children in the back seats. Hyundai has replaced the shocks/struts twice with less than 20,000 miles on the car. They are apparently using the same part which is why they keep wearing out badly.

NHTSA #11636685

My rear shocks and or insulator were replaced under a TSB 22-SS-001H at 50000 miles. At 79000 they are needing replaced again. I am told the TSB no longer applies since it is out of warranty. I see others having the same issue. Can Hyundai be held accountable for obviously replacing a defective part with another one?

I have taken my car to Jerry V’s Honolulu, and Tony’s Hyundai here on Oahu, neither dealership has been able to remedy this issue with my seatbelts. The recall has been out for a while and they cannot seam to get a part in stock. My seatbelts are not always locking, and this is an extreme safety issue. If I got i a wreck and it didn’t lock on the slip, I could fly out of the vehicle, or my child could. I am an active duty military member as well. I spend so much on this car a month and getting this fixed should be easily remedied.

NHTSA #11741083

I feel that this is a huge safety issue as I have 3 grandchildren that I watch everyday and have to have 2 of them in the 3rd row and 1 in the middle section, I love this vehicle but know I am afraid to drive it when I have them. This should be fixed immediately. Every day that there is not a fix is a day that I am putting my grand children's life in danger

Have attempted recall repairs 2 times. Was told I needed to reschedule since parts not available. I brought my vehicle in for repair 3/30/2026 @ 8:20. After noticing my car in back parking lot that did not move from at least 8:50am to 10:10am, I asked service representative what was happening. I was told I need to bring back at a later date when seatbelt parts are in. This process would take 4 hours. I made them aware that my front passenger seatbelt comes undone often.

On December, 2025 I received notification from Hyundai de Puerto Rico (Sojitz de Puerto Rico Corporation) informing about the Hyundai Recall Number 283 (NHTSA Recall Number 25V-607) regarding the seat belt buckle assemblies problem (See attached notification document). On January 27, 2026 I took my Hyundai Palisade 2020 to the programed appointment at Hyundai de Cupey, Ave. Ponce de León, #1385, San Juan, PR 00926 for the inspection and replacements of my seat belts buckle assemblies. For my surprise, the service advisor Ms. Adleni Vazquez informed me that there was no such recall and that they were proceeding with an extended warranty on the vehicle seat belt assembly system. She also told me that they would only act during that warranty extension period if I could prove a malfunction of the seat belt buckle assemblies. I showed the safety recall notification letter and the action required to the service advisor, but still they denied the inspection of seat belt buckle assemblies. The advisor showed me the Hyundai de Puerto Rico instruction regarding the matter which is only to provide an extended warranty. (See attached document). My vehicle was just serviced for an ECU upgrade of the emission system which I was told was the only recall pending (See attached Service job document). Do I or my passengers need to be involved in an accident and suffer injuries or even death because my vehicle was one with the faulty buckle assemblies before I can make a claim and be provided with the needed service and remedy? I think this “extended warranty” argument used in Puerto Rico for recall 283 is a dangerous excuse for not providing the service required. Please, investigate this important safety issue and Hyundai de Puerto Rico’s noncompliance. Once again, this is a serious issue that requires a prompt remedy. Due to is physical nature, it cannot be remedied merely with an “extended warranty”. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Received attached letter, extending warranty for twisted seatbelts. When I contacted the dealer, they said they had to be a case where my seatbelt came unbuckled for them to replace the seatbelts in my second row of my Hyundai palisade. Here is my concern. there have been numerous complaints about seatbelts coming unbuckled while people were driving. I place my most precious cargo. My two great granddaughters in that second row buckled in with the seatbelts, anticipating that I have done everything possible to safeguard them. now Hyundai is telling me that unless something tragic happens they are not replacing them although they do point out that they are twisted due to excessive space in the D ring. If this is the case, why are they not replacing them now? Are they waiting for something tragic to happen.?? I want my second row seat belt to be replaced so I know my great granddaughters are safe when I place them in my vehicle. This is ridiculous that they issue the warning but no recall. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? "The tempered glass panel of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was in motion. The glass exploded outward with a loud report similar to a gunshot. Yes, the vehicle and the remaining glass fragments are available for inspection upon request 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The sudden, explosive noise caused an immediate distraction and startle response while traveling at highway speeds (approx. 70 mph), creating a high risk of a collision. Furthermore, glass shards fell into the cabin onto the driver and passengers, posing a risk of lacerations and eye injuries. Shards also blew out onto the interstate, creating a road hazard for following vehicles. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. The vehicle is currently being scheduled for inspection 4. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? "No warning lamps or messages appeared. There were no prior symptoms of glass stress, such as cracking or creaking. The failure was instantaneous and spontaneous with no prior indication of a defect."

The air compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade with 55,321 miles has completely malfunctioned. The issue was diagnosed by Five Star Hyundai Dealership in Macon, Georgia on 9/26/25 and is currently available for inspection. The repair will cost $1,781. A failed A/C compressor in a 5-year-old vehicle could put my safety or others’ safety at risk due to reduced visibility from poor defrosting, driver impairment from extreme heat, and secondary damage affecting critical systems like steering or electrical power. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to air compressor failure. However, Hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) for certain 2020–2022 Palisade vehicles regarding the AC compressor. Bulletin 24-HA-003H: This TSB addresses reduced AC performance due to an "out of specification" AC compressor pulley and hub assembly. The sunroof wind deflector broke when I simply opened the sunroof, and the sunroof is now stuck in the open position. I wish TSB 23-BD-003H-1 would've included my VIN so I could've addressed this issue prior to it breaking. Now I am faced with a $3400 repair bill from Hyundai. Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a safety concern regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Recently, when I attempted to operate the sunroof, it only opened partially and made a crackling sound. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that some of the internal plastic components were breaking apart, and now the sunroof does not close properly. After researching this issue online, I discovered that numerous other owners are experiencing the exact same problem. For reference, here are a couple of user-reported discussions highlighting similar experiences: [XXX] [XXX] Additionally, I came across a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to this very issue, which can be found here: [XXX] However, when I checked my vehicle’s VIN, it did not appear to be included in the list of affected models, despite my vehicle exhibiting the same symptoms described in the bulletin. This leads me to believe that the scope of affected VINs may not have been fully identified. Given the number of similar complaints shared by other Hyundai Palisade owners, it appears this may be a more widespread issue than initially recognized. I respectfully request that NHTSA consider investigating this matter further, as it may help protect and support additional Hyundai customers who are dealing with this problem and have not yet been offered a resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Power Train,Engine7 complaints

Premature engine fail. Excessive oil consumption due to piston ring failure. Maintenance has been done on car on regular basis. No check engine light. Carson was services at dealership 4 months ago.

NHTSA #11739180

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade has an excessive and dangerous oil consumption defect. The vehicle consumes approximately 3/4 of a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. At a standard 8,000-mile oil change interval, the engine loses more oil than it holds between services. At approximately 185,000 miles, my vehicle stalled on the interstate with my family inside the vehicle. Upon inspection, the engine was critically low on oil. I added 5 quarts of oil to restore proper level. Critically, at NO point prior to the stall did the low oil pressure warning light illuminate. The vehicle's oil warning system completely failed to alert me that the engine was dangerously low on oil. This is a dual failure: the engine is consuming oil at an excessive and unsafe rate, and the warning system designed to protect the driver failed to activate when the engine was in a critical state. I have reported this issue to my dealership and filed a formal complaint with Hyundai Motor America. Neither has resulted in a meaningful resolution. Hyundai's internal "acceptable" oil consumption threshold of 1 quart per 1,000 miles is significantly outside mainstream industry standards set by other major manufacturers and appears designed to deny warranty claims rather than protect consumers. This defect poses a direct and serious safety risk. A vehicle stalling on the interstate due to oil starvation, with no warning to the driver, is a life-threatening failure. I am requesting that NHTSA open a formal investigation into the 2020 Hyundai Palisade for excessive oil consumption and oil pressure warning system failure.

Safety Complaint Summary: I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL AWD, ~96,000 miles). This vehicle has suffered three major powertrain failures under 100,000 miles: - Full engine replacement (due to excessive oil consumption, unresolved for months) - AWD system repairs - Now requires a full transmission replacement When my engine began burning oil, Hyundai’s service department charged me ~$500 and sent me back on the road without disclosing that this was a known issue. I continued running out of oil multiple times until an independent mechanic diagnosed the defect. My family was unknowingly placed at risk while Hyundai delayed resolution for 8 months. Diminished Value: The repeated nature of these failures not only raises safety concerns but has also destroyed the market value of the vehicle. Even after a transmission replacement, the Palisade remains a car that no buyer would trust — which underscores the seriousness of these systemic safety risks. Relief Requested: I ask NHTSA to review whether this defect pattern represents a broader safety issue and whether Hyundai should have disclosed the known oil consumption defect earlier and should investigate why a vehicle is suffering three powertrain issues and if this is a wider problem with the car type/year. A notice to consumers should be issued so we are not driving around in an unsafe car.

NHTSA #11684924

In short, the transmission has been replaced, the fuel injectors and other components. After that gets fixed they are saying we need a whole new engine and hyundai with only a pay a portion of it. We did the oil consumption test and it failed. The car was down for almost two months and they want us to pay 6k as our part. This is absolutely ridiculous and this seems to have been a known issue.

NHTSA #11665590

Burns oil and I have to change it every 3K-5K miles. I add oil throughout to keep it topped off, but by around 5K miles it’s nearly black. It would be completely dry by 10K miles. Yesterday I noticed an oil drip from what I assume is a faulty gasket, which is new.

NHTSA #11715714

Over the past 5 years, this vehicle has experienced three major powertrain failures: two complete transmission failures and, most recently, a catastrophic engine failure. The most recent issue involved the engine burning excessive oil without warning. While my wife was driving downhill, the vehicle shut off completely, causing a total loss of power steering and braking. She was barely able to get it safely to the side of the road. It was a serious safety risk, especially with children in the vehicle. Each failure has occurred well before it should in terms of mileage, and despite repairs, the issues continue. After this third failure, Hyundai offered to cover only 50% of the repair costs—which seems to acknowledge some degree of corporate responsibility—but we declined, as this is a relatively new vehicle and the problem is clearly systemic. We paid the second total transmission replacement completely out of pocket. A quick Google search and outreach to social media revealed that hundreds of Hyundai owners (across multiple models from this era) are experiencing very similar engine issues, many with official recalls for consumption, but there being no official recall or widespread support for Palisade owners. Personal stories suggest a clear pattern. The original dealership that sold the vehicle listed it as Certified Pre-Owned, but has since changed ownership and retains no records, which has made verifying the warranty status impossible. Hyundai corporate and customer service have been extremely difficult to work with—there are multiple active case numbers, no internal communication, and the local dealership doesn’t coordinate with national reps. This vehicle has spent over 100 days in service across these failures. I’ve tried every route available—dealership, corporate support, and online forums. The community is unsafe, and without broader action, other families could be at risk.

My vehicle is subject to open safety recalls involving seatbelt and third-row airbag systems. The seatbelt defect has resulted in seatbelts becoming unlatched while my children were restrained in the vehicle. The third-row airbag recall affects occupant protection in a collision. Hyundai has been unable to repair the vehicle and has informed me they are still searching for parts. My case was opened on April 7, 2026, and no repair date or loaner vehicle has been provided. I transport minor children, including children with special needs, in the second and third rows of this vehicle. I believe the vehicle presents an unreasonable safety risk due to the inability to complete recall repairs within a reasonable timeframe. I opened a case with Hyundai 4/7/26 and have included all emails between us where they tell me there are no parts available and have said they will not assist me with safe transportation for my children. This recall is almost a year old at this point.

Vehicle Information: 2020 Hyundai Palisades VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 74,212 Hyundai is mishandling Recall 292 (NHTSA 26V034000), which involves a failure to comply with FMVSS 226 and creates an occupant ejection risk. The affected seating position in my vehicle is used by my [XXX] child and is unsafe until a remedy exists. Hyundai has no remedy available and has refused to provide any written safety guidance or interim transportation. Beginning 5/29/26, I requested that Hyundai open a new case specifically for Recall 292. Hyundai has refused to open a case despite multiple written requests. Instead, they repeatedly redirected me to phone numbers and generic inboxes, avoiding written communication. They have not answered whether the vehicle is safe to operate, whether the affected seat can be used, or whether they will provide a loaner or rental while no remedy exists. Hyundai also claimed to have sent a Zelle reimbursement on 5/28/26 but refused to provide a timestamp needed for bank verification. When asked again in writing, Hyundai ignored the question and repeated the same deflection responses. Across multiple emails (5/29, 6/1, 6/1), Hyundai ignored every recall‑related question, refused to provide written guidance, refused to open a case, and refused to address the child‑safety implications. This appears to be a pattern of procedural and substantive non‑compliance with recall communication requirements. I previously had to involve the Maryland Attorney General regarding Hyundai’s handling of another safety‑related issue on this vehicle, indicating a broader pattern of evasive behavior. Since about 90,000 miles I have noticed a shudder from my transmission. It has progressed and having transmission issues. I have had regular maintenance done on my car and have even replaced the transmission fluid twice and the shudder is continuing to happen. I have looked at forums and all the things and seems to be a common theme amongst their transmission style.

I own a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle began jerking while driving, particularly during acceleration and shifting, prior to reaching 100,000 miles. Over time the issue worsened, and the vehicle started failing to accelerate properly when pressing the gas pedal. There have been significant hesitations before the vehicle would move forward. This creates a serious safety concern, especially when merging into traffic or turning at intersections. The condition appears to be related to the transmission. The symptoms began while the vehicle was still under the powertrain warranty period. I am concerned this may represent a broader transmission defect affecting other vehicles of the same model.

We have a a reoccurring issue of a gear selector malfunction warning popping up on the dash. When this happens it is at random and causes the vehicle to forcibly put the car in park. The heavy concern is that it happens when the car is in motion. Forst few times it happened when backing out of a parking spot. Most recently it happened while driving out of our neighborhood. My concern is that this could potentially happen during a time in which speeds are higher and cause a wreck. We have taken the vehicle to Hyundai dealership locally and the code for the issue will not show so they send us home because they are not able to pinpoint the exact problem. We have continued use of the vehicle because when this does happen we have been able to cycle the car off and on and it goes back to normal and all warnings are cleared..... this cannot be normal a nd I just don't wish to find out what happens when it does this at a higher rate of speed.

Vehicle Information: Year: 2020 Make: Hyundai Model: Palisade Component(s): Air Conditioning System / A/C Compressor Problem Description: The air conditioning compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade has failed and does not function properly. The A/C system does not blow cold air, making the vehicle extremely uncomfortable and unsafe in hot weather conditions, especially with small children riding in the vehicle. Hyundai has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) regarding a known defect with the A/C compressor in this model. Despite this, the dealership and manufacturer have refused to cover the repair or replacement under warranty or goodwill, even though this is clearly a widespread and acknowledged defect. I was quoted nearly $5,000 for the repair, which I cannot afford. Safety Concern: While the issue may appear to be only comfort-related, lack of functioning A/C creates real safety risks: Heat-related health concerns in hot climates, particularly for small children and elderly passengers. Reduced visibility if the defroster system does not work properly (since the A/C system is needed to remove moisture and fog from windows). Timeline of Events: Vehicle purchased: Purchased December 2023 First noticed issue: [XXX] Brought vehicle to dealership: [XXX] Dealer confirmed issue with A/C compressor but refused repair, citing that only certain VINs or conditions are covered, even though a TSB exists. Request: I am filing this complaint because Hyundai is aware of this widespread A/C compressor defect (per their TSB) but is not providing proper warranty coverage or resolution. This places an unfair financial burden on consumers and presents a potential safety hazard, especially for families with small children who cannot safely ride in extreme heat without a functioning A/C system. The instrument cluster seems to fail more so in the hotter weather. The speedometer, RPMs and gas gauge just stop working altogether. This seems extremely similar to the issues of other Hyundai vehicles that were recalled. The blind spot monitoring turns on and off as it pleases and there is a message that comes up sometimes that say it has been turned off due to electrical failure. The HDMI port in the counsel does not work but half the time so using android auto fails constantly. The radio signal is very poor in the car, resulting in static and high pitched noises on the stations and cannot use regular stations. There also is a huge oil consumption and oil burn smell and leak. This also seems very common for other Hyundai vehicles that have been recalled. Having to put 4-5 quarts in per month and only drive it maybe 1,500 miles in that time frame. There is a pause bumpiness when having to accelerate sometimes as well, followed by failure of oxygen sensor smells and baffles within the muffler seem to often have weird sounds. Have had the vehicle for 1 year and it was bought as a Hyundai certified pre-owned vehicle. It only has about 85K miles on it.

Description of Incident: The engine in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited failed and ultimately seized despite having been regularly maintained and receiving an oil change less than 3,000 miles prior to the failure. The component that failed was the engine, and according to the dealership, it is seized and no longer operable. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failure posed a significant safety risk. The engine began shaking while the vehicle was in motion, creating a sudden loss of power and drivability. I pulled over immediately and discovered that the engine oil dipstick was dry. I added oil right away, but the engine shut down shortly after. The abrupt loss of engine function while driving could have led to a serious accident had I been in traffic or at highway speed. Reproduction / Confirmation: Yes, the issue was confirmed by Hyundai at Courtesy, a certified Hyundai dealership. They diagnosed the engine as seized and also confirmed that oil was present at the time of inspection, ruling out owner neglect. Inspections Conducted: The vehicle and failed component (engine) have been inspected by the dealership, who submitted a case to Hyundai. However, the case was denied for goodwill coverage despite the circumstances. The manufacturer has been notified but has not physically inspected the engine themselves beyond the dealership’s report. Warning Lamps or Symptoms: No Check Engine Light, oil pressure warning, or any dashboard message illuminated prior to or during the failure. The only symptom was engine shaking, which began just before the engine shut down. The oil loss occurred silently and without warning, making the issue especially dangerous and difficult to detect in time.

Power Train,Electrical System,Engine2 complaints

I recently purchased this vehicle, and shortly after, it began having serious powertrain issues. When I accelerate, the vehicle intermittently loses power and starts shaking violently. It feels like the engine or transmission is slipping or failing. The RPMs surge and drop rapidly, and the vehicle hesitates, jerks, and sometimes briefly slows down before suddenly accelerating again. This creates an unsafe and unpredictable driving condition, especially when merging or driving in traffic. I’m concerned about a loss of propulsion while the vehicle is in motion. My mechanic indicated the issue may involve the torque converter clutch not engaging properly (possible “stuck off” or circuit performance issue), which would explain the shuddering and inconsistent power transfer. Despite how severe this is, there are no warning lights or check engine light, and no diagnostic codes, which raises concern that the failure is not being detected by the vehicle’s onboard systems. I am also experiencing low and fluctuating engine oil levels even after topping it off and a recent oil change, which may indicate an additional engine-related defect. The vehicle has a clean title and no accident history. - Failed system: Powertrain (engine/transmission), suspected torque converter clutch malfunction. Vehicle is available for inspection. - Safety risk: Intermittent loss of power, hesitation, and surging creates a high risk of collision, especially in traffic or at highway speeds. - Confirmation: My independent mechanic has identified as likely a torque converter related issue. - Inspection status: Not yet inspected by manufacturer or insurance. - Warnings/symptoms: No warning lights or codes. Symptoms began shortly after I purchased and have worsened over time.

Check engine light came on and stayed on. When using heat for car it was not heating up well or to temp. Got in to be serviced 12/16/25-12/18/25. Replaced a plastic part in engine and said engine was not heating up like it should. Cost $814. Reset check engine light. On 1/2/26 reversed car out of driveway into street and car came to abrupt stop and would not shift into any other gears. Another vehicle was coming up the street and almost collided with us and I could not get my vehicle to move which was blocking the road. Warning message said “Shifter System Malfunction: Service Immediately.” Pushed power button to turn off vehicle. Turned back on and able to get into drive to park back in driveway. Definitely having electrical issues and multiple problems with car since October 2025 when weather became colder for winter.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the front camera was reportedly installed incorrectly, causing the automatic emergency braking system to engage unexpectedly, almost causing several crashes. Additionally, the windshield wiper motor became inoperable, and there was a fluid leak coming from the wiper system that migrated into the transmission, causing a mechanical failure with the gearbox. The rear seat belts also failed to buckle securely and were frequently unlatched while children were inside the vehicle. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 26V034000 (Air Bags), 25V607000 (Seat Belts), and 22V627000 (Visibility); however, the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V627000 (Visibility). While traveling to Abilene Tx to see my doctor my check engine light came on. I pulled into the Hyundai dealership and ask the service advisor to plug into my vehicle and let me know what was going on. After he talked to his service manager he advised me that they "where to busy" and the earliest they could get me in would be the next Monday. This was Wednesday. My home is 100 miles from Abilene. I asked if he thought it would be alright and he said sure. I barely made it back to Big Spring before it started clinking and cluttering. It sound horrible. My son said it sounded like it through a rod. He checked the oil and said that I had low oil however my low oil light did not come on. I notified the dealership and was advised that I had to have it towed back to the shop in Abilene which I did. After a week passed I was in Abilene and stopped to check on my vehicle. Needless to say my repairs are in excess of 20K. New engine etc. and rear suspension is out also. After researching I have found I'm not the only owner with these problems. There are numerous complaints about these problems with the Palisade. This is a danger to all who own this vehicle. Fires, accidents and no telling what can affect us. All these vehicles need to be recalled because of the engine that was placed in these vehicles. The engine is eating oil fast. My oil changes were on time. Hyundai and the dealership are unwilling to offer any help in repairing my vehicle. The parts on the suspension are sub standard. I can't believe they are called the #1 SUV in America! Buyers need to be aware of the substandard parts and engine. They also need to be aware the Hyundai doesn't stand behind their product or the dealership either for that matter. I shutter to think of who I could've been on the side of the road with a blown on fire engine. I'm thankful I made it home before the vehicle cratered.

On [XXX], while driving on the freeway, my 2020 Hyundai Palisade suddenly malfunctioned and went up in flames without warning. My young son was in the vehicle with me. Within moments, smoke and fire spread rapidly, forcing us to stop in traffic and escape before the fire fully engulfed the car. The entire vehicle became a total loss. This was a terrifying, life-threatening situation. My safety and my son’s safety were at extreme risk. If my other family members had been in the car, the outcome could have been catastrophic. The emotional trauma from this event is significant and continues to affect us. The incident was reported to the San Antonio Fire Department, who responded to the scene and documented the fire. Their reports confirm the vehicle fire: Incident Report #[XXX] and SAFD Case #[XXX]. After researching, I discovered that similar fires have been reported in Hyundai vehicles, raising concerns that this is part of a wider safety defect. Families should not have to fear their vehicle spontaneously igniting on the road. At the time of the fire, there were no warning lamps, error messages, or symptoms that suggested the vehicle was unsafe. The failure happened suddenly and without warning. The vehicle has not been inspected by Hyundai at this time, but it is available for inspection upon request. I am urging a full investigation into Hyundai’s design and safety practices, as this fire placed lives in immediate danger. This was not just a mechanical failure—it was a potentially fatal event that could have resulted in severe injury or loss of life.

I was recently involved in an accident with my 2020 Palisade that I believe may have been caused by a brake failure. I was simply moving the vehicle from one part of a driveway to another when, as I drove over a drainage ditch, the brakes did not respond and the car suddenly accelerated into a tree. I sustained facial injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The vehicle is currently at Canby Motors in Bel Air and is available for inspection. The vehicle has only been inspected by Canby Motors to my knowledge at this time. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

August 2025: While driving down the road and approaching a light, I slowed down to turn and make a left. As I braked, all lights on the instrument panel lit up and the car completely turned off. After several attempts to start the car again, the car started. After taking it to a shop, it was determined that the car had consumed all oil, despite being within the recommended milage range for oil change. I filed a complaint with Hyundai, who emailed me to talk to my local dealership. I responded and have yet to receive a response to my communication, as of February 20, 2026. Hyundai dealership has told me that I need to fail three oil consumption tests (I have), complete a combustion cleaning (it has recently been completed), and fail one more consumption test before they can submit to corporate for a new engine. In the meantime, I have experienced my car shaking, the smell of burning oil, my car "jolting" forward while driving at sustained speeds, and a tailpipe that is completely black with 67,800 miles currently on the car.

On July fourth, while driving, the vehicle began to shake and make a rattling noise, shifted into park, and the dashboard lights lit up. While attempting to reach the safe side of the road while driving downhill on a busy road, the car lost power. I was able to pull over, restart the car, and reach a safe destination. I took the vehicle to the mechanic, who initially said I needed new tires, so all four tires were replaced. Three days later, the incident with the car shifting and losing power occurred again. The second time, I took it to the Hyundai dealership, which determined that only an oil change was needed, although I had completed regular maintenance on the vehicle. In November, the vehicle began shaking again and lost power while in motion. Again, the vehicle was taken to the Hyundai dealership, which stated that there were possible issues with the oil consumption.

The speedometer occasionally would not work. Typically all other dash features would and I could get speed through digital reading. Today, none of the dash reading work. My speedometer has the dial at 155. The digital reads 0, gas shows E, miles to empty remained at 260 for the over 10 mile drive, ramps as well as coolant didn’t register and were at 0 and C. This is a hazard as it is a safety requirement to follow the speed limit when driving. This placed myself and others in danger. You are welcome to inspect this. "The front view camera (FR_CMR) failed due to an internal control chip defect. The component is available for inspection — it is currently at the dealership. Multiple ADAS safety systems were simultaneously disabled, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and High Beam Assist. This puts both the driver and other road users at risk by removing all active collision prevention and lane keeping systems while driving at highway speeds with no backup warning. The problem has been confirmed by the Hyundai dealership via GDS diagnostic scan showing two DTCs: C160649 (ECU Software Error – Front View Camera) and C180581 (LKAS CAN Signal Error). The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer. Dealer repair order quotes 1,511.87 for camera replacement and calibration. Warning lights for Forward Collision, Driver Attention Warning, and High Beam Assist appeared on the instrument cluster and have remained on continuously. Systems have been disabled since the warning lights first appeared. This is a known internal control chip defect documented in Kia TSB ELE231 (Rev 2, August 2021), covering the identical camera assembly shared across the Hyundai/Kia platform. The same DTCs and same fix — front camera replacement, variant coding, and calibration — are confirmed repaired on other 2020 Palisade Limited vehicles under warranty. Engine started burning oil at around 70,000 miles. It now runs almost completely out of oil at around 5,000 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low. At around 74,000 miles?, Hyundai did a combustion cleaning. I've had two oil changes and it was back to vibrating, knocking, shifting hard, etc, right before a 3rd one at 5,300 miles since the last one and it stalled. We want a buy back as we think this is a lemon car. 3 transmissions and a new engine under 85000 miles is not good and definitely grounds for investigation. I was driving through town at a low rate of speed (20-30 mph) with 2-3 car lengths between me and the next vehicle. I continued through light to next light. This distance was on an upward incline. After traveling approximately 500 ft, I noticed the traffic slowing in front of me and took my foot off the accelerator to start to slow down. This is when the car suddenly accelerated (instead of slowing down as would be expected when traveling up an incline), picking up speed quickly. The car's response happened so quickly that I was unable to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I hit the car in front of me that was slowing down at the light which then subsequently hit several other vehicles that were in front of it that were also slowing/stopped for the light. The front airbag deployed as a result of the collision, knocking my glasses off. The vehicle was still continuing in forward motion after the collision….Traffic Crash Report states, “... [witness] went up to Unit 1 [Palisade], and the tires were still spinning…” As I was in shock after the collision, a bystander came up to the vehicle to turn it off and this is when the wheels/forward motion was completely stopped. This Palisade is equipped with Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) system. There was no warning given nor did the vehicle attempt to slow down during the event so I believe that this system failed to operate which contributed to the collision. I also believe that there was a failure with the engine/electrical system, ETC, and/or transmission that caused the system to suddenly accelerate while traveling uphill AFTER I removed my foot from the gas pedal. The vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. They did say that they were sending an engineer to review the Event Data Recorder. I have not seen any results from that nor do I have the vehicle in my possession as it was totaled.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the remedies were not available and then diagnosed an oil consumption failure. The dealer completed an oil consumption and cleaning and advised them to drive 1,000 miles to receive assistance for the engine, as it was at risk of seizing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the failure was not covered by recall or warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

Service Brakes1 complaint

When driving our brakes are spongy, downhill braking control gets disabled and tells us to control our speed even when going speed limit and below. Increased braking distance is needed, brakes are to the floor. When taken in for this concern we were met with, no issues noted on inspection. The brakes are getting worse and we feel as though this is a hazard for driving.

AC FAILIRE IM SUMMER, just outside warranty but tsb issued. Holler Hyundai Service wants to charge me $350 diagnostic fee to take a look and diagnose. Steering1 complaint

The steering on the vehicle will stop responding when turning at low speeds. The vehicle will feel like it hits the “bump stop” and then will come back to center. You can then turn past that point. This has almost cause accidents because you cannot effectively steer to avoid obstacles and cannot maneuver effectively at low speeds. It occurred randomly. Was troubleshot at dealership without resolution because they could not replicate the issue. There are no hazard lights indicating an error.

1. Left-Side Captain Chair: Upon braking or movement slightly --the seat will come unsecured and jolt forward - causing whomever passenger who sits in it to move forward. 2. Should not fail after 4 years. 3. Engine Burning Oil: July 2024 refilled oil change - December 2024 - Four (4 ) quarts of oil lost - vehicle is burning oil at unreasonable rates

Seat Belts,Fuel/Propulsion System1 complaint

Seat belts does not retract and when pulled it remains in that position. Even when I feed the belt back into its place its very loose and unsafe.[driver seatbelt], fuel injectors are causing the car not to accelerate and safety concerns while on freeway with children the car began to shutter/wanting to.shut off. I used both break and gas at the same time to keep the car running. I was told by Hyundai that the powertrain warranty purchases does not cover that part.

Air Bags,Engine1 complaint

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade affected by the recall involving the third-row seat airbag not deploying properly and the risk of occupant ejection during a rollover accident. I purchased this vehicle in December 2024 and have experienced a pattern of ongoing mechanical failures, repeated dealership visits, lack of manufacturer support, diminished use of my vehicle, and financial hardship throughout ownership. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have completed more than 20 oil consumption tests requiring repeated 1,000-mile dealership visits. The issues became so severe that both the engine and transmission ultimately had to be replaced. The unresolved recall has now created an additional major safety concern for my family. Hyundai indicated a remedy was expected by the end of March, but as of now there is still no repair available. This has significantly limited the safe use of my vehicle because the third-row seating cannot safely be used for passengers due to the risk associated with the defective airbag system. This delay is causing financial hardship as well. I intended to use this vehicle through Turo for supplemental income but cannot do so because of the active safety recall. I also have upcoming family travel requiring use of the third row and may now be forced to rent another SUV at my own expense. I currently owe approximately $30,000 on this vehicle and am facing substantial negative equity due to the vehicle’s extensive repair history and unresolved recall status. I am concerned about both passenger safety and Hyundai’s prolonged delay in providing a remedy for a serious safety issue. I am requesting that this complaint be documented as part of the ongoing investigation and oversight regarding Hyundai’s handling of this recall and the delay in providing repairs to consumers.

Air Bags,Structure,Engine1 complaint

The vehicle, a 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL, was located in a closed garage, unoccupied. Within 10 minutes of parking the car in the garage, it caught on fire, possibly originating on the front, driver's side. Due to this incident occurring inside a garage, there was damage to our home and a high risk of safety (including loss of life) to the home and its occupants. At this time, we are waiting for the insurance company to investigate the origin of the fire as there were no warning lights or any indication of risk. This fire happened very suddenly and unexpectedly and it is our sincere hope that a thorough investigation will prevent this from happening to other families.
