Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022-2024 IONIQ 5, 2023-2024 IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 "Electrified," and Genesis G80 "Electrified" vehicles. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-Volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power.

Reported consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: This recall is replaced by NHTSA recall number 24V-868. Vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedy completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 22, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 257/021G.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power.

Reported consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 20, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or Genesis customer service at 1-844-340-9741. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 272 (Hyundai) and 025G (Genesis). This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 24V-204. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-204 will need to have the new remedy completed.

I am writing regarding a very serious and frightening safety incident involving my 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5. While driving through a busy intersection in California, the vehicle displayed the warning message: “Stop vehicle and check power supply.” Within approximately one minute of that warning appearing, the vehicle completely lost power and became inoperable in the middle of the intersection. The shutdown occurred without warning and created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle’s hazard lights would not function because the car appeared to be entirely without power. Traffic continued moving around me while I was stranded in the intersection, and I genuinely feared that another vehicle could collide with me. I ultimately called 911 because the situation was unsafe and I could not move the vehicle. Police responded and directed traffic until the vehicle could be towed. Hyundai dealership had the vehicle for 22 days and diagnosed it as a faulty ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) which they replaced for no charge. This incident has caused me to lose confidence in the safety and reliability of this vehicle. A complete loss of propulsion in active traffic — especially accompanied by failure of the hazard system — is an unacceptable safety risk. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. Hyundai of America would not let me cancel the lease early due to safety concerns.

I was driving and the vehicle was operating as expected in normal conditions when I heard a loud pop sound, followed by an alert on my car infotainment to pull over and inspect the 12v battery. "12 volt battery low. Stop safely" I turned the car around to drive back home. The car wouldn't go any faster than 40mph. Once parking the car back home, the car would not turn on anymore. This is congruent with what I've been reading online about other Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivers experiencing when the ICCU in the car fails, requiring Hyundai to fix it.

The failure rendered the vehicle inoperable without warning, requiring it to be towed to a dealership. The vehicle lost functionality unexpectedly, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation if it had occurred at highway speeds, in traffic, or in an unsafe location. A sudden loss of power or inability to restart the vehicle presents a clear hazard to both the driver and others on the road. Prior to the failure, there were no clear warnings indicating an imminent critical issue. A 12V battery issue was suspected at the time of failure, and roadside assistance replaced the battery, but this did not resolve the problem. The root cause was later identified as an ICCU failure. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized Hyundai dealership (AutoNation Hyundai, North Richland Hills, TX) on April 10, 2026. I was driving in a parking lot and heard a “pop” sound like a balloon breaking. The Ionic 5 lurched and stopped. A red circle appeared on the dash and said “check electrical system.” I slowly maneuvered the car into a parking spot because there was very little power and turned off the car. I called the Hyundai dealer and they told me to have the car towed to the dealer in Palm Springs, CA. When the tow truck unloaded the Ionic 5 at the dealer, I attempted to move the car into a parking spot so it was out of the traffic lane. I started the car again it again lurched and a yellow circle came up with a turtle icon. Then another red circle appeared “check 12V battery”. The car would not move after that. I went into the Hyundai service department and talked to the service representative. He said he would take the vehicle in for service and I signed the paperwork.

ICCU and its fuse blew randomly while reversing out of a parking spot. The ICCU charges the 12V battery on board, and when the 12V dies the whole car dies, resulting in the car shutting down suddenly. It's a known issue with this model car. The service center confirmed the ICCU blew when they ran diagnostics.

This is a common failure mode and there needs to be a fix and safety recall for this.

My vehicle is 1 year old and has 7800 miles on it. I was driving on Friday evening (it was dark) and the vehicle acceleration was greatly reduced. I was about to get onto the highway but the warning light came on that said to have the electrical system checked. I pulled over and got a power limited warning and the vehicle would not drive after that and had to be towed. My toddler was in the car and if this had happened while we were on the highway in the dark I would have had trouble getting off the highway safely. The dealership inspected the car and said the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) had failed. They stated that there were 16 other cars were on the lot that had to be towed in with the same problem and that the part has been backordered since the beginning of January. I feel Hyundai is underreporting this issue and a recall investigation should be opened. There was no warning of this issue, I had been charging the vehicle and using it normally.

Our 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 suddenly lost propulsion after briefly showing a warning that the 12V battery was malfunctioning. Fortunately, this happened close to our home on a road with little traffic. We could make it home at very slow speed (15mph) and the car completely shut off on our driveway and became unresponsive. The vehicle was towed to our Hyundai dealer by Hyundai roadside assistance service. The mechanic at the Hyundai dealer (Sport Durst Hyundai, Durham, NC) informed us that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) had failed and did not charge the 12V battery. After researching I learned there had been a recall on the ICCU for model years 2021-24. However, when entering our car's VIN into the Hyundai recall site, and also in the NHTSA recall site, we found that our car was not included in the recall. Still, the ICCU failed. If we had driven on a freeway the sudden loss of propulsion could have caused a catastrophic collision. I also read that even after ICCU replacement due to recall, some replaced ICCUs failed again. I am very concerned about the safety of the car, even after repair. The mechanic advised us that it may take more than a week for the ICCU to arrive for replacement.

I had the vehicle towed to the dealership, who confirmed it was a broken ICCU, and stated that this had been happening a lot to the Ioniq5s. The replacement part was on backorder. It ended up taking nearly 60 days for the replacement to arrive and to be installed.

ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure. The car had been working perfectly up until the failure and had about 70% charge on the main battery. As I started driving, I received a warning to check the electrical system but not really providing instructions on what to check. Car was not able to exceed 25 mph, then 15 mph and subsequently was completely dead after parking without ability to even lock doors. Car was towed to a Hyundai dealer, who confirmed that the problem was due to the ICCU unit breaking, which I am now waiting to have replaced since the part is on backorder. Due to ICCU failure, the power was coming from the 12V battery, which quickly drained. ICCU software patch had been applied previously under a recall, but the ICCU still failed. It does not seem that Hyundai has fixed the problem, and there are many other reports of this happening to other Hyundai/Kia owners with EVs using the E-GMP platform similar to the Ioniq 5. Even after getting ICCU replaced, some owners have reported the ICCU failing again. Please require Hyundai/Kia to fix this problem permanently as the situation could have been very unsafe for me had this happened on the freeway or some place I could not pull over.

On 1/8/26, while driving in morning rush hour traffic on a busy expressway, a loud bang was heard under the car and the car suddenly lost power/propulsion. A warning light for low power displayed on the dash at the same time. Fortunately, I was able to drift to the right shoulder as much of the traffic was exiting the expressway just behind me. Otherwise, this could have caused a collision. Since the car lost all power, I wasn’t even able to engage the hazards while awaiting assistance. Car was towed to dealer who confirmed an ICCU failure, which appears to be a well known issue with this vehicle. The fact that there was NO warning and the car’s sudden loss of power on a busy highway, AND I was never contacted by the dealer/manufacturer about any recall for this problem has me very concerned. I also understand this could happen again despite the repair (which took 4 weeks due to part on back order).

My car (a 2024 Ioniq, which I bought new exactly a year ago, and which has less than 12,000 miles on it) lost power on a busy road. I ended up having to get it towed to the dealership as it was not drivable. It’s currently at the dealership with a blown ICCU, which I’m told needs to be replaced. Apparently this part is on back order due to high demand & I do not have access to my vehicle for at least 2 weeks. Upon doing research, it seems that this is an extremely common problem for the Hyundai Ioniq. NHTSA has the ICCU failure rate as 1% but per my dealership, in their experience, it is 6-7%, which is appallingly high. I am very surprised and disappointed to see that there has been no recall ordered for this part.

The integrated central control unit failed on my Hyundai Ioniq 5. A warning flashed on my dashboard stating that the car needed to be turned off immediately because of a power issue. I was in traffic on a very busy road and was trying to navigate to a safe place when my car stopped and turned off. After several attempts, I was able to start it enough to get off the street and to a safe place. I was fortunate that I was stopped in traffic or someone may have hit me. The tow truck driver said that he is towing at least one or two 2024 or 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles every day for this issue. The Hyundai service center said the ICCU failed and do not have an estimated date for replacing it because of the number of ICCU units that are failing is so high and they are backordered. I do not feel that this car is safe to drive. These cars should be recalled. If I had been driving on a freeway, I could have been hit and killed because I would not have had time to find a safe place to stop.

I was driving the car on the morning of January 1, 2026 and on its own with no warning it slowed down to 22 miles per hour on a street with 40 miles per hour. Cars angrily began speeding around me, and I could not make the car speed up beyond 22 miles per hour. I was able to make it home, and the car then went completely dead. I had it towed thereafter to the Hyundai dealer and they eventually told me the ICCU was broken and would need a new one (but they cannot say when even after weeks). I now see that many others have had this same problem for some time. I was not warned that this could happen (and would not have leased the car had I been told). It is dangerous to have the car throttle down especially to not be warned ahead, and I am glad I was not on a freeway and made it safely home. The dealer said this is happening to others, and that there are no replacement ICCUs in the United States. From the internet (I cannot verify) others said they waited months and got the same part which has failed for many, sometimes again after replacement. I only know what happened to my car and consider this dangerous.

Then, towards the end of the bridge, the car immediately slowed down suddenly and I could feel the regenerative breaking. I had to time or opportunity to get over. By the grace of God, traffic started to slow as we got near the end of the bridge and the car was able to go roughly 20 MPH on the side roads with my foot all the way down on the accelerator pedal. Towed the car in and got a diagnosis of a failed ICCU module. The part is on order and I have no idea when it might actually come in and get installed. Hyundai is aware of problems with the ICCU and 12 v charging system and has issued several software recalls; this ICCU problem is all over the Hyundai Ioniq 5 forums and is a widespread issue with the Ioniq 5. I’m lucky this failure occurred at my home versus when I was driving or many miles away or at night cuz I would have been stranded.

This is an EV . We use the regenerative braking to slow down. This car has both a front and rear dash cam. The car is about two and a half years old and has about 20,800 miles. We were approaching a red traffic light with several vehicles stopped in front of us. My partner was driving and had slowed to 8 mph, with her foot off the accelerator, advancing slowly towards the car in front of us when the vehicle experienced unanticipated, rapid acceleration. With quick reflexes, she was able brake hard and avoided a collision. Ten minutes later she was parking at our house, going 4 mph and it did it again, coming within four feet of the building. Neither time was she touching the accelerator, but the car accelerated like the accelerator was pressed to the floor. This is very dangerous.

Routine Friday morning and just finished charging my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 at Walmart. As I started my vehicle to finish my commute to work, the dreaded "Check electric vehicle system" warning light came on along with a red battery icon. Drive vehicle to -thankfully- nearby dealership before another failure. Abandon vehicle & wait for pickup by spouse, drive last hour in a snowstorm. Very lucky I wasn't stranded on the highway, hit and killed in a snowstorm. Very lucky I wasn't hit and killed in the road where it died. Very lucky I called for help early, wasn't stranded more than 20 minutes in dangerous-cold, didn't wreck in snowstorm getting home. Very lucky the malfunctioning systems did not steer/force me into another vehicle or pedestrian, causing injury or death. This was an incredibly dangerous scenario in which I went from 70 mph to 25 mph, in an area with no shoulder. Hyundai is aware of the issues with the ICCU and I believe they should expand the recall to include EVERY Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6. Interestingly, the technician at the dealership states in the summary of service that my car is subject to the recall due to the fault code (P1A9096). Why did I have to experience this failure to be subject to recall? My car should be subject to the recall/service based on VIN, but according to [XXX] it is not. Also at issue is the time it took to Hyundai's tech line to work with my dealership, and the time they are suggesting to provide replacement parts. My car was delivered via tow truck to the dealership at 11:16 AM on 12/11/2025 and I got the message regarding the diagnosis and solution to my car's issue on 12/19/2025 at 10:01 AM. On January 1st 2026 around 11am we were traveling in rural Wisconsin when we heard a loud pop from under the back seat . This we now know from Dahl Hyundai in LaCrosse was the ICCU failing . When this happened we were in blizzard conditions and the car forced us into limp mode and reduced us from 55 mph down to 25mph in bumper to bumper traffic on a rural hwy (this was not a smooth speed transition the car performed ) We drove the vehicle back to the nearest town going 25mph as it was alerting us that we were on limited battery as this issue in short time will make the vehicle inoperable . We found a safe place to stop and did so. We called Hyundai Roadside assistance who then let us know it would be 9 minutes until we received help. This would actually take 4 more hours . They left us with a car that did not operate , produce heat in a blizzard . We eventually had family pick us up so we were safe . We still do not have the vehicle back as Hyundai America has the part (ICCU) on back order with no ETA of repair. .

On June 13, 2026, my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 experienced a sudden and dangerous propulsion failure while in active motion. The vehicle had approximately 9,447 miles on it and was at 58% battery charge at the time of the incident. The vehicle was leased in January 2025 and has been serviced exclusively at the Hyundai dealership. While driving with two occupants, the vehicle abruptly lost all ability to accelerate. The dashboard displayed a critical warning: “Stop vehicle and check power supply” along with a red battery icon. This failure occurred without warning and immediately placed us in danger of being struck by surrounding traffic, as the vehicle could no longer maintain speed or respond to throttle input. I was able to coast the vehicle off the roadway. Shortly after stopping, the vehicle issued an additional warning stating that auxiliary functions were draining the battery. Within moments, the vehicle shut itself down completely. This left both occupants stranded in extreme heat (over 100°F) with no air conditioning, no ventilation, and no ability to restart or power the vehicle while waiting for rescue. This created a serious risk of heat-related medical distress in addition to the initial roadway hazard. The vehicle’s complete loss of propulsion followed by a full electrical shutdown represents a severe safety defect. At no point should an electric vehicle with more than half a charge and fewer than 10,000 miles lose propulsion during active driving or shut down all systems while occupants are inside. This incident posed a significant risk of collision, injury, or heat-related harm. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this failure mode, as it may indicate a broader defect affecting the propulsion or battery management systems of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership undergoing diagnostics and they confirmed they had difficulty jumping it to move it from where the tow truck had parked it on arrival.

ICCU failed while driving. This resulted in the vehicle going into limp mode while driving, cause the speed to slow dramatically and rendering it unable to be driven. Luckily, this happened close to home and I was able to get a tow truck to bring it to the dealership. Otherwise I would have been stranded. This problem is know, and was repair by Hyundai but there is no true fix as of yet, which continues to put drivers at risk. Hyundai is ignoring the fact that many Ioniq 5 have an ICCU defect that happens without warning and can leave you stranded with a bricked car that you can’t drive. They have a software recall for it that I had performed at the dealer. This did not solve the problem because it failed yesterday and I was stranded far from home. They continue to put this same part in the 2025 model. I have a 2024. Brand new cars are having the same problem which requires the whole unit to be replaced with the same unit that can go bad. I know people who it has happened to multiple times. They need to issue a recall that replaces the entire unit with a redesigned one. Not the same exact part. Everyone of these cars is a ticking time bomb that can leave a person stranded.

I can't believe you terminated your initial investigation into this in 2023 because they did a recall (which my car received). That recall did not fix the issue. It is March 2026 and Ioniq 5 and other models with the same electric system are dying on the road at the same rate as before. There is a large percentage of failed cars, and every failure is dangerous. This is a huge safety issue, and is not receiving adequate oversight by the NHTSA.

According to Hyundai, all active recall campaigns have been addressed on this vehicle (NHTSA site says it wasn't, Hyundai claims it was on 9/22/2025). Last night (3/3/2026) while driving on an unlit, two-lane country road about 20 minutes from my house, I heard and felt a bang noise from underneath the rear cabin of the car accompanied by a message stating "Stop vehicle and check power supply" on the dash. The car immediately went into a limp mode, reducing speed to ~40mph. After about 0.5 miles, the car further reduced speed to about 25mph (in a 55mph zone). As speed reduced further (no indication of what the speed would be reduced to), I pulled the car off of the road and awaited tow service. As this happened in the evening on an unlit country road, I was forced to wait for assistance along a stretch of road that could have been hazardous. Hyundai's claimed recall campaign work was performed on 9/22/25 with subsequent recurring failure about 5 months later. The dealer cannot confirm the diagnosis or offer estimates of repair time/availability until they see the car (currently scheduled for next week).

TIRE SIZE 235 / 55 R 19. Vehicle is a 2024 IONIQ 5. Issue began at/around 10k miles of use. Sound dampening foam inside of the tires comes loose and bunches up in the tire, creating varying degrees of car shaking and vibration. At its worst, the steering wheel and tires violently shake, especially between 50 - 75 mph. On the highway this causes a very dangerous situation of the driver fighting the wheel to remain safely within their lane. This can happen with no warning (or very little) as the vibration may be subtle at lower speeds on local roads, only to become unexpectedly extreme and violent while speeding-up to join highway traffic. Local Hyundai dealership inspected and tried rotating and balancing which did not fix the problem. Finally they removed the tires and inspected the foam which fixed the issue on one single tire. Cost was passed to the consumer, who is not at fault. And with only one tire addressed, the potential remains for each tire to experience the same failure without warning as time goes by. This is a very dangerous issue, well known as evidenced by complaints since 2023 online, and is going to cause accidents. It is unacceptable that drivers have risk their safety and that of other drivers if they lose control of the car due to the inability to control the steering wheel. Then have to pay to fix this issue or pay for new tires after only 10-12k miles.

As we drove toward the highway to begin our journey home in our 2024 RWD Ioniq 5 with our entire family and luggage in the vehicle, we received a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning and immediately pulled over and called Hyundai Roadside Assistance. They initially were going to send someone to jump the car, assuming it was an ICE, but once we said it was an EV, they said they didn't have the equipment to jump an EV. We then spoke to Hyundai Customer Care, and we reported that we received the "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning. The HCC rep said that she did not see any issues with the vehicle on her end, so we would be OK to drive it. We specified that we had a 1.5 hour drive home and asked her explicitly if we would be OK to drive this length of time with this warning and make it home? She again said that we would be OK to drive it. After getting off the phone with her, we proceeded onto the highway and within about 2 minutes, received the "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply" warning and then, within a few seconds, began to lose power. This was extremely dangerous, as we were going down a hill on a highway frequented by semi trucks in the rain. Fortunately, we were still able to turn on the hazard lights and coast into a nearby hotel parking lot. As we were losing power, we were afraid we would not be able to get out of the car because all the doors were locked and the windows were up due to the rain, so we quickly unlocked two of the doors as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. One of us then had to stay with the car at all times because we couldn't lock or unlock the car. We eventually had the car towed to the Hyundai dealer closest to us who determined that the ICCU and fuse had failed and needed to be replaced, but they could only replace them with new parts of the same design that could potentially fail again; Hyundai does not yet have a fix for the ICCU failure.

The vehicle was returned to me after a manufacturer-authorized high-voltage battery replacement that was completed on December 10, 2025. Immediately after pickup, the vehicle began exhibiting safety-related issues. I experienced abnormal and hard steering operation, repeated low coolant warnings, and battery management system (BMS) and electrical warning messages. These warning messages appeared immediately after the repair and before the vehicle was driven by me. I returned the vehicle to the dealership multiple times for the same issues. During the final visit, the dealership retained the vehicle for approximately 12 days. After this inspection period, I was informed that the vehicle had underbody damage affecting the coolant system and high-voltage battery and that the damage was likely caused by road debris. The issues began immediately after the battery replacement and involved safety-related systems including steering, coolant, and the high-voltage battery. The vehicle was returned with unresolved warning messages related to these systems. I am concerned that the vehicle was released after a major battery repair in an unsafe condition and that the affected systems may not have been properly inspected or repaired prior to release.

The vehicle is less than 1 years old. Had 91% charge left. Turned in the car as usual. Turned in heated seats and heated steering wheel as the outside temp was 34 degrees. A pop noise occurred and my entire dashboard flashed like a Christmas tree saying electrical system failure. Pull over safety. The cars speed was reduced to 20 mph. This was extremely scary as this happened on a main road where the speed limit was 55. The ICCU failed according to the dealer. This has been a common issue among Ioniq5 cars and the manufacturer has failed to fixed this issue. This car presents a high failure rate of the ICCU computer that controls the entire car. Once this chip fails, the car can not be driven and it must be towed back to the dealership. This is not a one off. Hyundai also quietly remove the remote start feature to activate the heated seats. They must know that turning on the heated seats might trigger an overload causing possible risk of iccu failure.

The tubing that is used to connect the windshield washer reservoir to the nozzles that deliver the washer fluid to the windshield is prone to rodent activity. This tubing has been punctured by rodents twice now - with one intervening tube replacement. I have to replace the tubing again today. It has been less than two weeks since I last replaced the tubing. The replacement tubing was purchased from a Hyundai dealership. It appears that this will be an ongoing issue that will impact the operational safety of the vehicle.

Air Bags,Seat Belts1 complaint

The yellow airbag SRS critical safety restraint wire runs exposed and loose and drooping beneth the front seats with NO space between the harness and the floor (it could have been run above the seat plate or otherwise protected. Mine snagged on something and was torn from the terminal block and has disable the airbag. Hyundai denies it a defective design or assembly and had denied warranty coverage but wants $10,000 to enable it - $6,933 for the part - $3,000 labor. The driver seat moves back and forth automatically when entering and existing - there is no control of the movement and anything more than 1/2 high is able to become tangled and disable the airbag without warning. Hyundai via emails to their legal counsel as well as customer care is fully advised but has denied warranty status or other fix or accomadation. The warrenty for this car - for which coverage has been denied - is in full force per Hyundai's express terms. This is a critical safety issue which upon limited investagation effects numous ioniq5's of multiple years besides the 2024 limited. Note also the 2024 limited has a movable drivers seat foot rest which is prone to sweep matters under the seat when lowered.
