Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Engine20 complaints

When at a complete stop, engine will stop running but AC and radio stay on (sometimes radio dies). I have to toggle between park or drive or neutral to get car to even power completely off, open door to kill electronics, and restart. This has happened in stop and go traffic and at stop lights. This week my car shifted into neutral while stopped at a light and I had to figure out how to power car off and restart, no idea what the magic combo ended up to be as I had a line of cars behind me trying to just get my car to go again.

NHTSA #11741086

Vehicles auto stop/start turned the engine off while at a stop light. When I accelerated on the gas my car would not go. It said to take it was in neutral so it went into neutral on its own. The entire car appeared to have turned all the way off at this point and I was able to restart and drive.

NHTSA #11741154

Please find the details regarding the sudden, dangerous failure of my vehicle below. The itemized findings are pulled directly from the dealership’s multi-point inspection and diagnostic report. When was the first time (approximate date) you noticed the issue? The issue culminated in an immediate, hazardous crisis on XXX when the vehicle completely shut down while in operation and refused to restart. How often does the issue happen within a time frame (e.g., once a month)? This is a permanent, catastrophic mechanical failure. The engine is completely inoperable and the vehicle is entirely undriveable. What is the name & title of the person(s) assisting you at the dealer? I am being assisted by Victoria Dalessandro at Honda City Long Island in [XXX]. What is the reason/explanation provided by the dealer, as to what caused this issue? Following a formal engine teardown, the dealership confirmed a severe internal failure: a lower engine knock originating from the front connecting rod bearing. This internal component defect completely seized the powertrain, causing the vehicle to shut down and rendering the engine unrepairable. What repairs/services have been completed (if any)? Only the initial teardown and diagnostic inspection have been completed. No repairs will be authorized until American Honda Motor Company, Inc. assumes corporate financial responsibility for this premature powertrain failure. What repairs/services have been suggested? The dealership has stated that a complete engine replacement is required, suggesting a used engine swap ($7,609.92). In conjunction with this catastrophic failure, they have itemized necessary peripheral parts and critical safety wear, including new spark plugs, a replacement drive belt, failed lower control arms ($1,704.28), leaking front struts, degraded stabilizer links, and fluid exchanges. costs estimated for the repair (if any?) My engine lights turned on Friday, April 24th and I brought in my vehicle to a local dealership on Monday, April 27th. I was informed it was due to a faulty catalytic converter and it was replaced under warranty. The services was completed on Tuesday, April 29th and took my vehicle home. On May 7th, I turn on my engine and all the engine check lights came on. My car was jerky. I was scheduled to bring in my vehicle on May 12th to a local dealership. On May 13th, I received update that my engine had oil leakage and required a new engine. I believe that my 2019 Honda Pilot is among the thousands of Honda Pilot within the make year that are experiencing engine failure. I need support to replace my engine as I should not be responsible as I continue to maintain maintenance on my vehicle and to experience this engine failure issue.

NHTSA #11737868

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while the contact's father was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact's father noticed an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed rod bearings and a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

NHTSA #11740623

While driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced sudden engine failure at highway speeds, putting the safety of our son and others drivers at risk. The engine completely lost power. The diagnosing dealership confirmed failure of a connecting rod and bearings and internal engine damage with metal present throughout the engine, requiring full engine replacement at an estimated cost of over $17,000. The car is still at the South Pointe Honda dealership in Tulsa, OK. The diagnostic was also confirmed by a Honda certified mechanic at another independent shop. No others have inspected the vehicle. This appears consistent with reported issues involving connecting rod bearing failures in Honda V6 engines of similar model years. The failure occurred prematurely and without warning, raising concerns about reliability and potential safety risks if loss of power occurs during operation. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of a problem prior to failure. The vehicle has been properly maintained and was not subject to abnormal use. I am submitting this complaint due to the severity of the failure, the high repair cost, and concern that similar failures may pose a safety risk to other drivers.

NHTSA #11733896

When my Pilot is stopped and the engine idles off, you should be able to take your foot off the brake and it start back up. My engine continuously shuts down completely when I take my foot off of the gas and multiple alert lights on the dash come on. About 70% of the time, I can shut the car off completely, breathe a second and then press the ignition button and the car will restart. Now, increasingly it stalls completely and will not crank for several minutes. I have had this happen more than once at busy intersections and once while stopped in traffic on an interstate. I had to put my hazard lights on so cars would go around me. I have taken it to the Honda dealer a couple of times just for this and they say there is nothing showing to be fixed and there is nothing they can do to fix it. They only told me to remember to press the button to turn the feature off. Yes, I know that’s possible but I’m a busy mom and I often forget. What is the point of having the feature if it continuously stalls out? I have searched this problem on the internet and I’ve seen other Pilot owners have had the same problem. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

NHTSA #11724399

While traveling at highway speeds, we experienced a check engine lights with loss of power. After carefully pulling off of the highway, we stopped at a gas station where the engine ultimately stalled. Upon attempting restart, the engine cranked twice and then stopped. Trying to start the engine again. All we heard was a click this time around and the engine is now fully seized. Thank goodness we were able to pull off the highway and the issue happened in a way that my family and I were safe.

NHTSA #11722827

My engine has been diagnosed as having connecting rod bearing knock, which is indicative of failing connecting rod bearings. Two independent mechanics have told me I need a new engine. I'm submitting this complaint as further evidence for the NHTSA investigation that Honda's Honda Pilot Connecting Rod Bearing Safety Recall had an insufficient of covered vehicles. At the time of purchase and as of today, my VIN is not part of Honda's recall, yet I have experienced connecting rod bearing failure, as have many others. There are several warning Lights including but not limited to ABS, lane assist, trailer assist. So far, my safety is not at risk, but I have a 2 year old grandchild that I drive around multiple times a week. I can’t afford this repair and feel as though I cannot drive this vehicle so I only drive it when absolutely necessary. The vehicle has 82,000 miles on it. Should the engine fail, it's likely that would cause an accident and injury or death. I originally had the vehicle diagnosed because I could hear the noise myself and it was not a normal noise.

NHTSA #11740413

I am submitting this complaint to report a catastrophic engine failure in my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite that is consistent with the defect described in NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-751, and to request that my vehicle be included in the recall or that the scope of the recall be expanded. My vehicle, manufactured in July 2018, experienced a sudden onset of engine knocking accompanied by a flashing check engine light and a P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire) diagnostic code while driving at highway speeds. After safely returning home and attempting reasonable repairs, I brought the vehicle to a Honda dealership for inspection. The technician determined that: •The cylinder #1 connecting rod bearing had spun •There was extensive internal engine damage •Metal shavings were present in the oil pan •The engine required replacement of the short block assembly The total cost of repair was 9,784.94. This failure mode is identical to the defect described in Recall 23V-751, which attributes rod bearing failure to manufacturing issues with the crankshaft. Despite this, my VIN is not currently included in the recall. Key concerns: •My vehicle falls within the same production timeframe as affected vehicles •The failure mode is identical to the recalled defect •The failure occurred under normal driving conditions •The vehicle was properly maintained and not abused This raises serious concerns that the defect extends beyond the currently defined recall population.I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1.Investigate this incident as part of the ongoing review of Honda 3.5L V6 engine failures 2.Determine whether Recall 23V-751 should be expanded to include additional vehicles 3.Consider my vehicle for inclusion in the recall due to identical failure characteristics This issue represents a significant safety concern, as sudden engine failure at highway speeds could lead to loss of control or increased risk of collision. Supporting documentation is attached.

NHTSA #11729513

The vehicle was had a lower engine knock. When I took the vehicle in I was informed that there is an open recall for Honda Pilots for engine knocking and failure but my vin number was not included. Because of the knocking I was informed that I needed to replace the engine. The vehicle is approximately 2400 miles over the 100k power train warranty. The engine has been serviced regularly and has had all PM completed. The vehicle is currently in the repair shop waiting for a replacement engine to come in. Since Honda doesn't have rebuilt engines the shop is waiting on a used engine to arrive that has approximately 77k miles on it. Because the engine is still waiting to be replaced I do not have a repair bill yet.

NHTSA #11721048

At 144,500 miles, the connecting rod broke and destroyed the engine. The connecting rod broke while driving on the highway at highway speeds. Honda has confirmed the connecting rod was the cause and will need a new engine to get the vehicle working again. I was having intermittent check engine lights and Honda could not find anything wrong with the vehicle prior to the failure. There are currently recalls on 2019 Honda Pilots for this issue, but does not cover my specific vehicle. This is a known issue in Honda Pilots

NHTSA #11715799

My engine has been diagnosed as having connecting rod bearing knock, which is indicative of failing connecting rod bearings. I'm submitting this complaint as further evidence for the NHTSA investigation that Honda's Honda Pilot Connecting Rod Bearing Safety Recall had an insufficient of covered vehicles. My vehicle has a fully complete oil change history documented by its CarFax report when I purchased it and I have the receipts for the subsequent required oil changes under my ownership. At the time of purchase and as of today, my VIN is not part of Honda's recall, yet I have experienced connecting rod bearing failure, as have many others. I am now faced with paying 1000 in diagnostic fees to a dealership to just to see whether Honda will offer any help or not, and, if not, pay them another 1000 to reassemble my engine. Instead, I will be having my trusted Honda mechanic either replace the bearings or the short block of my engine at my own expense. My vehicle was diagnosed by a Honda/Acura-only repair shop. When I have the work done, I'm happy to request to keep the original bearings so they can be examined should that be necessary. The vehicle has only been inspected by my repair shop. I haven't involved insurance. There are no warning lights on. So far, my safety is not at risk, but I have two children, and this is our family vehicle. Should the engine fail, it's likely that wold cause an accident and injury or death. I originally had the vehicle diagnosed because I could hear the noise myself and it was not a normal noise. I will have an estimate for repair available in the next few days.

NHTSA #11714936

While idling and driving into a parking garage, a new metallic knocking noise was audible from the engine. When I pulled up to the parking garage, I lowered my window to have the code scanned to enter the garage. The noise was present at that time, nothing previous to my commute to work this day. The noise was not audible while driving due to road/wind noise, music and conversation in the car. Driving down the garage ramp and into the parking area with the window still down, the noise was more pronounced (perhaps from the surrounding concrete walls). I eventually parked the vehicle after taking a video clip and sought help via phone and email from my work office. In this specific incident, safety was potentially at risk if the condition had worsened to the point of engine failure or other severe condition while driving on the roads. I was lucky in this instance. On 01/06/2026, video clip was sent to Honda dealer where purchased. I was instructed to not drive it and have the vehicle towed. Due to distance and expense to tow it close to home where purchased, it was towed to a local Honda dealer. Today they called and said internal components have failed and the engine needs to be replaced. On 01/07/2026 I've further engaged my local Honda dealer where purchased. This includes transferring it to them. At this time, the vehicle would be available for inspection upon request. No check engine light or other warnings of any sort were present. No invoice for diagnostics/repairs is available as of yet for upload as this is event is still in progress. There is only a video clip to hear the audible sound coming from inside the engine.

Engine failure: one of the engine rods blew through the longblock and seized the engine while driving on the highway. The car is regularly serviced from the dealership, well maintained, has low mileage, and is relatively new (2019). There is no recalls for the car, but this seems related to the ongoing investigation with Honda and Acura cars that have had engine failures.

NHTSA #11710399

My car is a 2019 pilot and with 105k miles, engine has the rod bearing knock problem currently being investigated by nhtsa.

Forward Collision Avoidance,Lane Departure19 complaints

There are several lights that come on and say there is a problem. Upon looking online for information on how to fix it there are numerous people with the same issue and there should be a recall.

NHTSA #11743893

I have a 2019 Honda Pilot Touring with an intermittent fault. At apparently random intervals, I'll get the following faults on start: Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Lane Keeping Assist Problem Collision Mitigation System Problem Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Auto High-Beam Problem If I drive the car a couple of miles, there's a 50-50 chance I'll get them the next time the car starts. It's not throwing any fault codes. Had the oil changed, battery checked, cleaned the "H" sign to make sure it wasnt anything dirty on the radar.

I leased this vehicle in Oct2019 and then brought this vehicle and till date did 44710 miles and on 2/25 we had multiple warnings on the dashboard regarding lane assist failure, adaptive cruise control, break system failure, forward collision failure and many more warnings, we took it to Honda Dealer to investigate and they said that he don’t Monocular camera has to be replaced with a estimate cost of 2395, when searched online there are many customers of the 2019 model facing the same problem and are subjected to such high repair cost. I believe that this is a faulty part from Honda and needs to be recalled and fixed as this impacts critical safety functions.

NHTSA #11729556

At roughly 90,000 miles the forward multipurpose camera has an internal failure and a lot of my safety features no longer work, such as Road departure mitigation, Auto high beams, Lane keeping assist, collision avoidance, and adaptive cruise control. This is a very common problem amongst these vehicles and honda should be responsible in fixing them.

NHTSA #11738595

Multiple problems flashing. Including CMBS problem, Lane keeping assist problem, road departure warning, adaptive cruise control problem. The car also did an unexpected slow down while driving when there was no obstruction in front of me driving. This was a major safety issue as I could have been rear-ended.

NHTSA #11721564

All of the warning lights came on, cruise doesnt work. Dealership told me my camera in the wind shield stopped working. I was given a 2,1000$ estimate from Harvest Honda in Yakima, WA. My car had 84,000 miles on it. No impact to the windshield. It just stopped. I took it to McKinney glass to see if it could possibly be a calibration issue. They confirmed what the dealership told me. It’s defective.

Vehicle: 2019 Honda Pilot Issue: Complete dashboard blackout / loss of safety systems Safety Defect: Yes Description of the problem: While driving, the entire dashboard and infotainment system suddenly go black without warning. This includes the speedometer, fuel gauge, warning lights, backup camera, and all Honda Sensing features (Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure Mitigation). When this happens, I cannot see my speed or any critical vehicle information. The system reboots on its own while still driving. This failure happens intermittently and unpredictably, including at highway speeds. It creates a serious safety hazard because I lose all driver information and safety alerts. Many other 2019 Honda Pilot owners report the same issue, and Honda has not issued a recall or permanent fix. Honda cannot figure out why this happens depsite me taking it to dealer several times. Frequency: • Has happened multiple times When it occurs: • While driving What has been done so far: Honda dealers have not provided a permanent fix. Software updates and resets do not resolve the issue. Honda has not acknowledged this as a safety defect despite widespread reports. Why this is a safety issue: Losing the speedometer, warning lights, and safety systems while driving is extremely dangerous. I cannot tell how fast I am going, whether the vehicle has warnings, or whether safety systems are active. This should be investigated as a safety defect.

NHTSA #11728401

Front camera sensor (behind rear view mirror) has failed prematurely therefore causing multiple dash lights to come on such as ACC, LKAS, collision mitigation system, Brake system. Confirmed battery is not the issue as it is in great condition.

My cruise control stopped working and all my lane assist stopped working. My front camera stopped working. I went to the Honda dealership, and it was going to be over $2000 to replace. The car is only 6 years old, it has had no accidents or problems. I’m incredibly upset that this already is a problem, and because i didn’t buy an extended warranty it’s on me to fix.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the LKAS, cruise control, and Forward Collision Avoidance warning lights were illuminated, indicating that the safety features were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where DTC: U3000/49; was retrieved, indicating an internal failure of the multi-purpose camera unit. The dealer informed the contact that if the front multi-purpose camera was defective, the safety features would become inoperable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

So my front sensing camera failed after 125,000 miles , Honda sensing features disabled and dealer in Elk Grove, CA zip code 95624 quoted me 2,215 plus tax and that includes diagnostics. It showed 5-6 errors on my dashboard which have disturbed my focus on driving. Advisor said there’s no recall on this issue or warranty at all except if you bought an extended warranty. This is not fair as this is an electronic automated design, this should have a warranty. This will pose danger to customers who owns this vehicle.

NHTSA #11697762

My 2019 Honda Pilot’s (125,000 miles) forward-facing sensing camera (behind the rear-view mirror) failed, disabling Honda Sensing features like Lane Keep Assist, automatic high beam, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Braking. The dashboard shows “Honda Sensing Problem”, braking system and “Collision Mitigation System Problem.” Dealer diagnosed a bad sensing camera and quoted around $2,316 plus tax for replacement and calibration, not covered by warranty. Many other owners report the same issue. This is a safety risk since it disables key safety systems. Please investigate and consider a recall.

The multi function camera is causing multiple system failures within the safety systems associated with the camera as well as additional issues with transmission. Honda suggests throwing parts at it until repaired. Many owners on forums report same issue across different model years and trim levels. Known issue not being resolved by manufacturer.

NHTSA #11684691

The front camera driving assist malfunctioned, causing all driving safety mitigation to be stopped. This is not an issue due to the driver, it is an issue with the camera either malfunctioning from heat from sun exposure or being faulty due to manufacturing issues. I reported to Auto National Honda Valencia & they said it would cost approximately $2200 to fix. Dash light did come on and are continuing to go on until the faulty camera is replaced.

NHTSA #11711850

My 2019 Honda Pilot has 47817 miles on it. Purchased new from dealership. Been garaged entire life other than normal routine driving. Recently had ADAS warning lights. Reported the problem to Honda HQ in Torrance California. They issued a claim number. I took it to Honda dealer where it was diagnosed with error code U3000-49. They quoted me approx $2600 to replace and calibrate the new multi purpose camera. When reviewing the internet for others with similar problem I noticed this was a safety issue that was far too common among relatively new Honda vehicles. I received a discount from Honda and had the service. The discount was only given when I complained about this issue as well as my 2013 Honda pilot I purchased brand new which the clear coat paint started to come off the roof and hond of the vehicle about a month after I purchased my 2019 honda. When reporting the problem with the 2013 pilot losing the clear coat back in 2019 Honda told me it was too late for them to do anything. Honda should have recalled vehicles with peeling clear coat as well as the defective ADAS system.

The malfunction indictator light came on due to diagnostic trouble code P0430 (front bank catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2]) while driving. The vehicle has 64,240 miles and has had zero symptoms prior to the DTC appearing. This problem is noted in Service Bulletin 21-010 for Honda Pilots year 2017-2019, but my Vin was not included in the "Vin range". I am taking the vehicle in to the dealer for an inspection and diagnostic, but I believe the "Vin range" should be updated to include my vehicle.

An “Emissions System Problem” warning message appeared intermittently on the dashboard while driving. The warning light would sometimes turn off after restarting the vehicle, but the issue persisted in the vehicle’s stored diagnostic system. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where a diagnostic scan confirmed a P0430 code (catalyst system efficiency below threshold). The dealer identified the likely cause as failing fuel injectors and recommended replacement of the injector system. The issue was confirmed by the dealership and is reproducible through stored fault codes, even when the warning light is not actively displayed. This condition may impact engine performance, fuel mixture, and emissions system operation. In certain situations, this could lead to reduced engine performance or hesitation, which may affect the ability to safely accelerate or merge into traffic. The vehicle has been regularly maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. There were no significant warning signs prior to the initial dashboard alert other than the intermittent warning message. The failed components (fuel injectors) should be available for inspection upon request through the servicing dealership.

The"MIL" reported "Emmisions System Problem" The Dealer stated "DIAG Code P219A" was the underying cause, and the reccomended solution was to "replace fuel injectors and check for PGM updates". I paid for the repairs, and took the vehichle home. After some research I discovered that these symptoms, codes, replacement parts etc.. are all consistant with a Honda Service Bulletin (MC-10183514-0001) as refrenced by NHTSA ID 10183514. where Honda was extending the warentee for the fuel injectors. After reviewing the document I found that my VIN is not included in the scope of the "warentee extension" I opened case number 16127621 with AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. to inquire further and get a reasonable answer as to why my VIN was excluded from scope, they were responsive, but provided no explanation other than my VIN " is not included in this campaign for fuel injector concerns. Unfortunately, your vehicle is not eligible for reimbursement at this time." I would like to have it "on record" that I have voiced concerns suspecting this is not a coinsidence, and the scope of the recall should be expanded.

Fuel Injector issue - diagnosed at Mike's Automotive, a NAPA AutoCare Center by ASE certified technician. Codes were P0430 and P219B which indicates fuel injector issue. The Emmissions System Problem check engine light goes on and off at random times, reduced fuel economy by almost 5 mpg, hard shifting, stalling. All symptoms are in line with the recall for 2019 Honda Pilots however my VIN is not included in the recall, but I believe it should be. Honda wants me to bring my vehicle to a Honda Dealership to get diagnosed, diagnostic is my cost, though I've already paid for a diagnostic at a different repair shop.

NHTSA #11704467

My vehicle keeps pulling up a code intermittently to do with fuel injector issues. The mechanic tells me that it is a fuel injector issue needing replacement. There is a recall for my model of 2019 Pilots, but Honda is saying my VIN is not included in this recall. I find it highly unlikely that this is related due to my fuel injectors are messed up and the machine checking for my engine light issue is pulling the same codes and issues that are covered by the recall on other Pilots. It is very evident that my vehicle and other owners' pilots are having the same fuel injector issues but are also being told their VIN is not covered under this recall. This seems to be a much bigger issue than they are admitting or including in the recall, and this should definitely be reconsidered due to the costly repairs this is for owners experiencing this same manufacture problem.

NHTSA #11700599

My car is very hesitant while driving, it pulsates as well. I can be driving at 65mph and next thing I’m doing 45-50 and the engine is sputtering and the dashboard lights up with check engine lights.I know there’s a recall on the fuel injectors for the model year I own but mine is not included in the recall which I think it should be. Scanned the codes and got P0430 and P219B which is the fuel injectors as well as raw fuel making its way back to the catalytic converter. I’ve read of thousands of Honda owners with the same issues of being left high and dry by Honda just because they refuse to include vin numbers that should have been in the original recall. I really hope this recall can be expanded as my car has been babied with only 49K miles on it. Thank you

NHTSA #11705409

The car keeps getting a 219a error code intermittently. The dealer states it is the fuel injectors needing replacement. There is a service bulletin for my model of 2019 Pilot , with a warranty extension to 10 years or 150,000 miles but Honda is saying my VIN is exclusionary and want affected. Except, my fuel injectors are bad with the same code and issues as covered by the warranty extension. It seems quite clear that my vehicle and so many other pilot owners with them from this generation are having the same fuel injector issue but being told their VIN is not effected. One needs only to do a quick search online to see that this is bogus and a more widespread problem than honda is taking responsibility for.

NHTSA #11694526

Fuel Injectors failed after being replaced less than 50,000 miles ago. This is part of a larger Honda issue noted on Bulletin 21-010. It is causing my car to not accelerate appropriately which is dangerous when on the road. Honda inspected the vehicle and found code P219B. This after finding code P0430 in April 2025 causing me to have to replace catalytic coverters. The emissions system light turned on for each of these issues. Please include my VIN in the safety notice since it is clearly having the same issues as all the other 2019 Honda Pilots.

We took our honda pilot to our local dealership (Nelson Honda 2500 Greensboro Rd Martinsville Va. 24112) for a recall on the fuel pump motor on 4/16/2025. We noticed when driving the vehicle that it had some hesitation when going up hills. The problem persisted so we finally made an appointment to have it rechecked on 7/30/2025. They advised nothing wrong recommended transmission fluid changed. We went to our local repair shop and had them to look at it and much to our surprise the fuel pump had not been touched. We have pictures and you can tell it hasn't been touch in a long while. When we called the dealership they told us that it was completed and that we should not file a compliant because they are a small dealership. I know that I'm one person but this car is my main transportation and I should be able to trust that when a recall is done that they actually do the work. Any help or assistance that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I own a 2019 Honda Pilot. The transmission failed and was replaced under warranty in October 2023. In March 2026, the same transmission problem occurred again and the vehicle is now not drivable. The dealership diagnosed the issue and estimated the repair cost to exceed 19,000. The manufacturer, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., opened and then closed my case (#16240409) without explanation and has not responded to repeated requests for assistance. The vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting authorization from American Honda Motor Co., Inc whether to repair the vehicle or not.

While driving at highway speed (approximately 60 mph), my vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion and automatically shifted into Neutral without any warning. This occurred in active traffic and resulted in an immediate and dangerous loss of power. I was unable to accelerate and narrowly avoided a serious accident. Following the incident, I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda service center. The dealer diagnosed the failure as a defective Transmission Control Module (TCM/TCU). Diagnostic code P0810 (Clutch Position Control Error) was stored, and the dealer confirmed the TCM must be replaced. This is a serious safety defect. Sudden loss of drive at highway speeds places the driver, passengers, and surrounding vehicles at extreme risk of serious injury or death. The failure occurred shortly after the expiration of the 5-year powertrain warranty. Honda should investigate this issue immediately, as unexpected TCM/TCU failure causing loss of propulsion can result in catastrophic outcomes.

NHTSA #11711665

The 9 speed transmission suddenly lost power while accelerating onto an interstate from an on ramp. It is available for inspection at the auto shop as it is not driveable and had to be towed. The vehicle did not give any indication in the moment. My safety and the safety of other drivers were at risk due to the posted speed limit of 65 MPH and my car had no ability to accelerate and get to a shoulder with three lanes of traffic. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer. I've reported this issue numerous times and they always state they don't find anything defective with the vehicle. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or other entities. There has never been any warning lamps or messages prior to the sudden loss of power on this occassion. In the past when I have lost power, it's been momentarily and no signs have illuminated. It has gained power within seconds of me stepping on the gas. On this occassion, it never got power back and the signs came on. Once I got to the side of the road, I tried turning the vehicle off and back on but once I try to put it in drive, it goes back to neutral automatically on its own. Prior to this incident, other than losing power momentarily at times, when stopped at a red light or stop sign, the car would automatically put itself in neutral and I was unable to drive when the light turned green/my turn at stop sign. I had to turn the car off (in the middle of the road) and turn it back on to get it to go in drive and accelerate again.

Rear differential unit failed at about 66,000 miles without warning. During normal driving, the dashboard warning light came on indicating AWD warning. It was raining at the time the warning came on. The Pilot onboard computer did disable the AWD and place the vehicle in front wheel drive only mode. The next morning again the AWD warning came on when put into drive and was raining again. Driving again in the afternoon the AWD warning did not come on and there was no rain. I could not see any physical signs of an issue. The Pilot was just in for two recalls: one for backup camera wiring harness on 8/27/2025 and fuel pump on 9/8/2025. About two weeks later on 9/24/2025 was when the first warning came on. The Pilot was taken to the dealer and was reported that the differential pump, sub harness, and differential all needed to be replaced. I informed the dealer that the two recalls were performed and the warning coming on during wet weather. The dealer stated the failure was not caused by the recalls. In order to make to Pilot safe to drive again, I had the dealer replace the parts.

My 2019 Honda Pilot was surging when it went up a hill or was at a steady speed on the highway. I was concerned that the car would stall. The dealer confirmed/reproduced the problem and called it a torque converter shudder. Per Honda's instructions they changed the transmission fluid 3 times and did a software update. There were no warning lights. This is a known problem with a very specific fix that is recommended by Honda. It should be a recall and the repair covered by Honda. It costs me over $400.00 to get the repair done at my dealer-Washington PA Honda.

Transmission shift from 2nd to 3rd gear is extremely violent and inconsistent. This is not a normal "transmission slip" but rather a miscalculation of how much RPM to input post shift. This causes the car to "jump" or slow drastically while driving through city. Typically felt between 25 and 35 mph. When I took car in for diagnostic, the dealership said "oh, that's just how these cars a made. I hear about this many times with now problems." There are no engine lights on as a result of the shifting, but the reported concern has been present on car since first owner.

NHTSA #11676342

The transmission surges while accelerating and cruising. Honda issued a service bulletin, 17-014 issued 2/27/2018, to fix the problem for the 2016-2017 models. Mine is a 2019 with the same transmission as the 2016-17 Pilot, the 6AT. The solution to the issue was the same as the 2016-17 Pilot, flushing the transmission fluid three times but now Honda will not issue a service bulletin for the same problem on the the 2019 model so I had to pay for it.

I have recently had a traumatizing event with respect to the 2019 Honda Pilot. As you know this vehicle has the 3.5L v6 engine and transmission. Recently I was in a situation where I needed to accelerate to miss an oncoming tractor trailer that crossed the median. The only course of action was to accelerate. At the time of acceleration the car skipped and slipped gear. We narrowly missed colliding and in my estimates dying. I had the vehicle inspected and diagnosed by a Honda dealership in Sanford NC. They determined the Torque Converter failed and is bad. They also informed me this same power train is in the 2018 and previous Honda Pilots. Which Honda extended the warranty on to address the issue. Why haven’t they included the 2019? This is unacceptable I have reached out to Honda and they will not discuss the issue.

Ticking noise and check engine light. Taken to dealer. Dealer replaced tensioner, timing belt, water pump, did oil change and engine flush. Did not fix the problem. Dealer took the engine apart and discovered damaged rocker arm assembly which caused valve spring break which caused a problem with the cylinder. Honda is denying a warranty claim as the vehicle is just outside of the 5 year power train warranty period even though it only has 48 thousand mile on it and has been serviced regularly and kept in good condition.

Because the front camera has malfunctioned, all electronic warnings are permanently displayed on dash upon start of car, including Engine light and Brake system warnings. Although the camera is the only only thing that has actually failed, the warning systems are no longer available to accurately display all other malfunctions of the car which would prove dangerous should a system failure actually occur, as I would not know the difference. I have had the car in to the dealer several times to make sure the engine is in fact ok, but I cannot afford the $2000 to repair the camera just so the warning lights will go off. It is unsafe that the accuracy of the Honda Pilot's warning systems are impacted. This appears to be an issue specifially with 2019 Honda Pilots as i have found numerous reports online and social media forums with the exact same complaints.

I was driving home at around midnight on the interstate, when my radio stopped working and digital dash screen just turned off. The radio screen said something like network communication lost (I was going 75 so I couldn’t completely read what it said), and the dash where my tachometer and speed usually are, was off; the only information about the car I had was gas level and general engine temperature, so physical gauges or the fuel economy indicator were not affected. All headlights, climate, and engine or cruise control were not affected. It rebooted after about 10 seconds, as if the car was just started up, and everything was back to normal. I was coming from a work event, so I had a coworker with me and he noticed this was occurring, unsettling to be a passenger and all necessary information about the vehicle on an interstate was gone. The vehicle did have a recall to address crackle noise in the speakers, which was a symptom of the MOST bus failure. But since then, the crackle hasn’t disappeared, the backup camera has failed on occasion, and now this, just once in ~15000 miles, all link through the same MOST bus. Will be taking to the dealer again ASAP to see if they can resolve the issue for good, but it seems unacceptable that an infotainment failure could also affect the dashboard if I am understanding it.

The idle-stop feature on our 2019 Honda Pilot is faulty. The idle-stop is intended to shut off the engine, or put it into an idling state, at stop lights in order to improve fuel efficiency. However, on a recurring basis (at least once a week, often times several times per week), our Pilot will shut off at a stop light and fail to restart. This at a minimal causes the car to get stuck in traffic or create traffic issues at stoplights, and at worse (in a situation like today), it causes our car to stall out in the middle of a busy intersection which put our family at unnecessary risk.

NHTSA #11659265

Rear backup camera suddenly showing green and purple distortion making it impossible to use/trust the camera. This issue appears to be a growing trend in 2019 Honda Pilots AFTER Honda completed recall issue on faulty cabling/wires. See this thread: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11659594

Backup camera is distorted and has purple and green colors throughout the screen. Also the information screen routinely indicates a Tuner failure, followed by popping sounds from the radio. Took vehicle to Honda dealer who advised that many 2019 Honda Pilots are coming in with same issue. However, the vehicles with the vehicles with the same first 7 charscters in the VIN were NOT included in the recall for some reason. This oversight by Honda, to exclude these particular Honda Pilots, places an increased safety risk for the owners, as well as an undue financial burden. In reviewing the complaints posted on this site, 2019 Honda Pilot owners have been complaining about these issues for 2-3 years without any resolution from Honda. It is clear that Honda has been aware of this issue for several years. It would be great if the NHTSA would require Honda to do the right thing by acknowledging their oversight (excluding these vehicles from the recall), and have the backup camera and tuners repaired before a serious accident/injury occurs.

Several times the automatic emergency braking system has engaged when there is no obstruction in front of me. In addition, several times the automatic emergency braking system has flashed a warning when there is no obstruction in front of me. Both of these situations are very dangerous and can cause an accident or can cause me to loose control of my car.

Multiple malfunction warning lights came on stating the adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane keep assist, automatic headlights, etc. were not functioning. The Honda dealer attributed it to the forward facing multi-purpose camera. I was told they have seen the same issue before. It's a very expensive part to have replaced ($1846.50). While researching the problem it appears to be a very common problem with Honda and I'm sure the dealership is not forwarding this information to you. This is a safety issue and I'm sure people are driving around without fixing it because of the cost. The cost to fix this problem should be absorbed by Honda since it is definitely an engineering issue. Fortunately, I had an extended warranty on my car that covered most of the cost.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the brake warning light was flashing. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the multi-view cameras were misaligned. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

There was an internal failure of the multi-purpose camera located behind the windshield rear-view mirror. It was inspected by Russ Darrow Honda and the failure code diagnosed. The camera needed to be replaced. Service included a video from the dealer and the defective camera was so hot he could barely hold it while wearing gloves. This caused the Lane-Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, Collision Mitigation and Road Departure Mitigation Systems to fail, and the dummy lights on the dash to warn of the system failures. There was no accident or injury resulting yet, but none of the advanced safety features were operable. We have since learned that this camera is a common failure in Honda vehicles, and we feel there needs to be a recall. This critical and expensive safety feature should not be failing this frequently, or in vehicles this new.

During normal operation of the vehicle, the dashboard information display on the gauge cluster lit up displaying the following error messages: Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Auto High-Beam Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem. Additionally there is a fixed "dash light" that is showing "BRAKE SYSTEM" illuminated in amber color. After research I have found that Honda issued a TSB for other vehicles with their sensing system for the same issue and referenced the high-mounted mono camera on the windshield. This issue extends to the 2019 Pilot Elite that I own and significantly reduces the safety features of this vehicle.

Engine,Fuel/Propulsion System4 complaints

I am submitting this complaint regarding a fuel injector failure and emissions system malfunction in my 2019 Honda Pilot. At the time of the failure, the vehicle had approximately 94,693 miles and had been routinely maintained. On [XXX], while traveling from Ohio to Pennsylvania with my family, the vehicle displayed an "Emission System Problem" warning and illuminated the check engine light. The vehicle was diagnosed by Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The dealership found DTC P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) and performed an air/fuel ratio test. According to the dealership, four of the six cylinders were running rich due to excessive fuel delivery. The dealership recommended replacement of the fuel injectors, and all six fuel injectors were replaced. The injector repair cost approximately $1,100. The dealership advised that possible causes included internal fuel injector failure or carbon buildup but could not provide a definitive explanation for the failure. Neither the dealership nor Honda could explain why my vehicle was excluded from Honda's fuel injector warranty extension despite exhibiting the same symptoms and requiring the same repair associated with that program. I was advised that the warranty extension applies only to certain VINs produced during specific manufacturing periods and facilities. However, my vehicle experienced the same failure pattern, including a rich-running condition, emissions-system warning, catalyst-efficiency diagnostic code, and replacement of the fuel injectors. While researching the issue, I reviewed NHTSA complaints involving 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles. Numerous complaints describe similar fuel injector failures, emissions-system warnings, catalyst-efficiency codes, and injector replacements. Based on the number of similar complaints, the affected vehicle population may extend beyond the VIN range currently covered by Honda's warranty extension. Vehicle: 2019 Honda Pilot VIN: [XXX] My 2019 Honda Pilot is experiencing an "Emissions System Problem" accompanied by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P219A (Air-Fuel Ratio Imbalance). This defect causes engine hesitation, rough idling, and a severe risk of sudden loss of motive power or engine stalling while driving at highway speeds, presenting a significant safety hazard to myself and other motorists. American Honda is fully aware of this manufacturing defect. They issued Service Bulletins 20-100 and 21-010 extending the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for this exact code and symptom on 2017–2019 Honda Pilots due to defective fuel injectors and faulty PCM software. However, Honda has arbitrarily excluded my specific VIN from this extension (case number Case # XXX). Honda Corporate has officially denied assistance, forcing me to drive a vehicle with a known fuel system defect that threatens sudden vehicle failure in traffic. I request that the NHTSA investigate Honda’s arbitrary exclusion of affected VINs for this acknowledged safety defect. The front camera is kicking a code of U3000-49 so now none of my safety features work nor is honda 100% certain on how to fix his issue. I've spoken to Honda and no one can provide a clear answer. I'm not driving my car with my 2 small children because it's the only car I have and none of my safety features are working due to the damage from the front camera. I've been told by a glass service, it's likely due to heat damage as Honda's front camera are known for this. To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding a serious and unresolved safety-related defect on my 2019 Honda Pilot (VIN: [XXX] ]). The vehicle’s front camera system failed, disabling essential safety features including Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Braking. These systems are part of Honda’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and are integral to safe vehicle operation. Their failure constitutes a critical safety defect, not a routine maintenance issue. Misrepresentation by American Honda I was initially assigned to a case manager named Christian at American Honda. During our recorded phone conversations, Christian falsely claimed that the discount I received from the dealership was provided by American Honda, even though the dealership is an independent franchisee and American Honda has no control or direct relationship over the dealership. Upon direct inquiry, the dealership confirmed that the discount was offered solely through my business account and my relationship with them and had no connection to American Honda. When I requested written confirmation of this claim, American Honda refused to provide any documentation, despite the fact that all conversations were recorded by them. These recordings contain critical evidence of misrepresentation and should be reviewed as part of this dispute. If necessary, I am prepared to request that these recordings be subpoenaed for formal review. Ongoing Safety Concerns Prior to the complete failure of the camera, I experienced multiple false collision warnings, including dashboard alerts, steering wheel vibration, and automatic braking — even when vehicles were traveling in the opposite direction and posed no threat. These false activations were not only alarming but dangerous, and they indicate a pattern of malfunction in the camera system long before its final failure. Electrical System,Engine3 complaints

The Auto Idle Stop feature on my 2019 Honda Pilot is a critical safety defect. The engine repeatedly fails to restart automatically after the Idle Stop engages at a complete stop, resulting in the vehicle stalling in traffic. This is a major crash risk, not a minor inconvenience. I have experienced this dangerous failure multiple times while waiting to make a left turn in busy intersections. When I release the brake to proceed, the engine remains stalled, leaving my vehicle immobilized directly in the path of oncoming traffic and creating a high risk of a side-impact or rear-end collision. On one occasion, the engine stalled as I was attempting to clear a red light, leaving the Pilot stationary and exposed. I manually disable this feature every time I drive because of the known failure risk, and the stall only occurs when I occasionally forget this essential step. Replacing the battery, as recommended by the dealership, did not resolve the high rate of failure. Honda's existing fixes are inadequate, and this defect puts vehicle occupants and other drivers at serious risk of injury or death.

The vehicle’s A/C system is experiencing a refrigerant leak due to a known issue with the compressor shaft seal. This issue appears to be associated with the transition to the newer R1234yf refrigerant, after which the shaft seal design was not adequately updated, leading to premature seal failure and refrigerant leakage. This is not an isolated case. Similar A/C compressor shaft seal leaks have been widely reported across multiple Honda models, including the Honda Civic, Accord, and CR-V. For several of these models, Honda has acknowledged the defect and issued an extended warranty program covering A/C compressor shaft seal failures. However, for the Honda Pilot, although Honda has issued a service bulletin describing the same shaft seal leak condition and repair procedure, no extended warranty coverage has been provided. The service bulletin for the Pilot describes the same failure mode and repair process as those covered under extended warranty programs for other models, indicating that Honda is aware of the defect and its root cause. Despite this acknowledgment, Pilot owners are required to bear the full cost of repairs, which can be significant, even though the underlying issue is consistent with those already covered in other vehicles. This issue also has potential safety implications. Loss of A/C function can impair the defrosting system, leading to windshield fogging and reduced visibility, especially in humid or cold conditions. Reduced visibility can directly impact driver safety. Given that Honda has already recognized this defect in multiple models and implemented extended warranty coverage, I believe similar coverage should be extended to the Honda Pilot to ensure fair treatment of customers and to address the associated safety concerns. I have attached the extended warranty documentation for the Honda Civic as well as the service bulletin for the Honda Pilot; they describe the same issue and repair procedure.

On [XXX] a code p0430 appeared on the dash board screen. The car was making a strange noise coming from the engine. I took the car to Integrity Auto Repair shop in McAllen, Texas, they checked the code and said that it was the catalytic converters that were going bad. So I requested an estimate, since their estimate was too high, I contracted a private mechanic to replace the catalytic converters (2), and another part connected to the system. Also, we replaced the oxygen sensors and the noise did not go away. Then, on August 25th, 2025 I decided to take my Honda pilot to the dealer Honda in Pharr, Texas for a check up and they told me that the reason the car was making so much noise and had so much reduced engine power was because the high pressure fuel pump was failing. So, I asked the service representative: If the problem is the high pressure fuel pump, why the dash board code p0430 showed up? Ana, was the representative's name; she replied that the front dash camera is malfunctioning and needs to also be replaced. I asked her...my car just has 76,000 miles, i paid so much money for this car and you are telling me that the dash camera and the high fuel pressure pump are not good? And, I spent almost 4,000.00 Dollars replacing the wrong parts because your dash board gave me the wrong code? Why is this happening? I am driving my car with my two little daughters in the car, taking them to school and back and hearing the car engine noise and wondering when is it going to leave me on the road? Then I asked her; this looks like that is a problem from the manufacturer and Honda should be responsible for the repair. Imagine the dash board giving me the wrong warning code? And the car has only 76,000 miles. Then I go and spend so much money for nothing? This is not normal. I feel that Honda is responsible for the car failures. While operating the vehicle in reverse at a low speed (under 5 mph), the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) failed to provide any audible or visual alerts regarding a stationary vehicle positioned directly behind my path. The vehicle is equipped with a Rearview Video System and Rear Proximity/Parking Sensors, both of which were active. Despite a clear line of sight and the secondary vehicle being a standard passenger car, the sensors did not "ping" or trigger an emergency brake/alert, resulting in a rear-end collision. The sensors and camera lens were clean and free of debris at the time of the incident. This represents a failure of the safety system to perform its primary function of obstacle detection in a standard backing scenario, posing a significant risk for back-over incidents involving pedestrians or other vehicles.

All of the safety features are failing starting about August 2025. Warning lights are lit for collision mitigation, cruise control, high beam, lane departure, braking, EVERYTHING!!! We replaced the battery but that is not the problem. The transmission was always a problem. The braking assist never worked from day 1. The vehicle is completely defective.

Electrical System,Engine,Fuel/Propulsion System1 complaint

I have had multiple situations where the auto idle has engaged and the vehicle has died. Most of the time the car restarts by holding down the ignition button, but twice it's required a jump. I have taken this into honda multiple times and they've told me they can't recreate the problem, but it consistently happens to me. The most recent time was at a high speed intersection and almost resulted in a serious collision. The below question asked how many miles on my vehicle. We first noticed this at about 25000 miles, but most recently occurred today at 80000 miles.

Service Brakes,Forward Collision Avoidance,Lane Departure1 complaint

After starting my vehicle and leaving the office, several different warning messages began flashing on the dash ABS, lane departure mitigation, Power Sterring, Towing. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. When I attempted to restart the vehicle, the brake pedal was hard and felt stuck. The car did not start. When roadside assistance came, they tested the battery, and it was fine. The car was towed to a Honda dealer and the technician informed me the Brake Pedal Position Switch failed. He said that it would have caused all the different warning messages to appear. This was the second time this occurred, where the different warning messages lit up, but that time the car restarted. When I took it to the dealer that time, they could not determine the issue, and no repairs were done. I am concerned because I have seen that these vehicles have issues with this and it is very dangerous and unsafe when it comes to issues with the brakes.
