The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
We went to a car wash and that day after the car wash we started getting 6+ error message codes for adaptive cruise control, lane assist, lane departure, blind spot, rear cross traffic, etc. our tech that we took it to says they have seen this happen nation wide on these vehicles
NHTSA #11734612
With no preceding accident or damage, the vehicle suddenly received multiple warning lights on the dash, including: "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem", "Lane Keeping Assist Problem", "Collision Mitigation System Problem", "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem", ""Auto High-Beam Problem", and a Brake System Caution Light. I attempted turning the car off and back on again, disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes, and reconnecting, and checked all fuses that were accessible. It appears the problem is related to the Multipurpose Camera (Honda Part #: 36160-THR-A91-M1). This appears to be a common issue. This manufacturing defect primarily effects safety systems and is common on a car that is primarily marketed towards the transport of families and children. I find this defect to be unacceptable and STRONGLY believe that it warrants a recall by the manufacturer.
NHTSA #11729449
Front camera is bad or faulty, triggering all adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto high beam etc errors on dashboard, rendering the car not able to start or die in the middle of the road/traffic when the engine goes into idle mode while stopping at red lights. My odessey has over 111k miles when these issues start showing, but lots of people report experiencing same issue with even with their newer odessey. It doesn’t feel right why Honda installed cheap cameras especially when it plays a crucial role involves safety of the car and the driver.
NHTSA #11731668
My vehicle started cycling between all of the check engine types of lights to include the emissions system. When taking it to my local Honda dealership, they determined that it was my front camera (multi-purpose camera internal failure). After some research and speaking to the service department, this major safety failure has been happening to many other Honda vehicles. The emissions system failure seems to also be a faulty design. I feel that the camera system failure could have resulted in an accident or major injury. And of no fault of my own. My vehicle is regularly maintained and is merely 6 years old. I should not be replacing a mayor system like the front camera every 6 years.
NHTSA #11729296
The Multipurpose Camera failed. Searches online and discussion with the dealers show this is a common problem. Result is shutdown of collision mitigation systems, blind spot indicators, lane divergence system, auto high beam, etc.
NHTSA #11727298
System failure for all of the safety-related assistants. Works intermittently, but mostly indicates failure.
NHTSA #11724442
Getting error code for safety sinsing. Lane keep assist, Collision mitigation system and now transmission system. forward facing camera is cause of issue
NHTSA #11724223
The ADAS system doesn't work. The forward collision system, adaptive speed control, and lane keeping assist have all shown malfunction errors and no longer work.
NHTSA #11741054
The front windshield camera completely failed. No longer have emergency braking. Honda said known problem and want to charge $2000 to fix
NHTSA #11728214
System is starting to fail by alerting me to clean windshield. Windshield and camera have been cleaned, still getting multiple warnings that system is shutting off safety features during my commutes.
NHTSA #11720431
Went to pull into parking lot, ADAS system starting going crazy. Throws transmission malfunction error. Headlights won’t work - they turn on and off or go extremely dim. Van keeps jerking and losing power. Code reader showed U3000-49 electronic failure. Van drove normal, no issues until this code popped up. Issue started 01/08/2026.
NHTSA #11712639
My Multi-Purpose Camera System has gone bad after only 5 years. Collision mitigation, cruise control, brake system, lane keep assist, among other safety features are failing because of this.
NHTSA #11711105
In December, out of the blue suddenly had rotating list of warning on dash panel (Lane Keeping Assist problem, Collision mitigation system, departure mitigation system problem, auto high-beam problem, Adaptive cruise control problem) plus Brake Warning system light is on constantly and brake hold not working. At first this was intermittent but now on constantly when starting and driving car. Only 55k miles on my Odyssey. Dealer said he had 3 of these in the last three months. Said it was Multi Purpose front camera failure. Cost over $1500. Since huge safety issue putting not only my family but other cars/people at risk, we are paying to repair, however we just found hundreds of people complaining about this same issue. This should be a Honda Recall. We did nothing wrong to cause this safety issue and this part should NOT fail in 5 years. I don't have the final invoice yet but I can upload later if required
NHTSA #11705171
The Multipurpose Camera Unit has failed resulting in loss of Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, Automatic braking and other features related to the MCU. There are approximately 6 warnings when starting the car of features not working, and 3 lights that remain lit on the dash including "Brake System". This is the second time this issue has arise. The first time was replaced by the dealer under warranty.
NHTSA #11711511
The warning messages keep popping up regarding the lane assist system, Adaptive cruise control not working and dealer states that the camera needs replacement and this is common issue for most Honda cars so should be recalled
NHTSA #11738170
The front camera that regulates the adaptive cruise control failed. Now it does not allow for any of the safety features to work. I’ve gone on multiple Honda forums and a lot of people have the same issue.
NHTSA #11704335
The camera controlling many systems regarding safety failed and caused numerous warning lights to come on. Complete camera replacement was necessary.
NHTSA #11699699
Camera is faulty. Many owners report a similar problem.
NHTSA #11729206
On Sunday 9/28/2025 I started up my vehicle and received numerous error messages: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Brake system light I contacted the dealership in which I purchased the vehicle and they did diagnostics. It came back that the front facing camera needs to be replaced. Which is a $2000 repair. After researching online this seems to be a common issue with years 2018-2020 odysseys. This needs to be investigated and a recall issued from Honda USA for remedy as these error messages are concerning when they pop up repeatedly.
NHTSA #11690680
The forward facing camera failed on my 2020 Odyssey with only 90,000 miles. Because of this failure, I am loosing all my forward facing safety features. This seems to be a common issue across many Honda vehicles and most users report being told the issue is being caused by overheating. Since users are being told this is a cause and effect issue, the manufacturer should address this at their expense. I first noticed this issue in mid September 2025.
NHTSA #11701931
The Multipurpose Camera Unit has failed resulting in loss of Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, Automatic braking and other features related to the MCU. The dealer inspected the car and confirmed the issue was a bad camera. There are approximately 6 warnings when starting the car of features not working, and 3 lights that remain lit on the dash including "Brake System".
NHTSA #11710684
When turning on vehicle the attached picture’s warning lights show on dashboard. Unable to reset them. Vehicles collision sensor not engaged when driving. Road departure will not activate when vehicle drifts of interstate lanes. Cruise control will not work at all. Brake system light will not reset even when brakes and fluids are good. With all these issues, vehicle safety devices don’t provide any safety. These could result in bodily injury and even death.
NHTSA #11685711
The camera sensor is malfunctioning. It is affecting the collision sensor and lane assist sensor. Also adaptive cruise control, road mitigation and auto high beams. My vehicle is scheduled for diagnostics with a dealer, but seeing the many, many cases and videos online of the same problem, i am certain of the problem since it has been confirmed by others who have already paid for this costly repair. My warning lamps come on every time I start my vehicle. This is a definite safety issue since the issue is with the safety sensors.
NHTSA #11687400
For the past couple of weeks, every time I drive the car, I get a number of error messages regarding problems with the advanced driver assistance features. These include: "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem", "Collision Mitigation System Problem", Lane Keeping Assist Problem", "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem", and "Auto High-Beam Problem". A diagnostic check showed error U3000-49, namely "Control Module Internal Electronic Failure". I took it to a shop, they ran diagnostics and told me I needed to replace the multifunction camera in the windshield. It seems to be a common problem and is very expensive to fix, at more than $2000.
NHTSA #11681089
All warning lights came on for Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assistance.Based on my research, it seems the forward facing camera has failed. The vehicle only has 37,000 miles on it and it is only 5 years old.
NHTSA #11695653
While driving, all at once several messages displayed, all of which are related to forward facing camera. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Auto High Beam disabled along with the BRAKE SYSTEM light turning on When I researched the internet, there are alot a people report this problem with the HONDA forward facing camera witch supports the systems listed this failures. Talking to friends and neighbors they have had the same issues, it is about a $2000 fix to replace and recalibrate the camera link to user forum [XXX] Most of the reported issues including mine are related to heat, the camera is in an enclosure located at the top center of the windshield. We just had heat indexes above 100 degrees. The camera is always hot to the touch. I also had this issue in the past put happened whole under warranty. NHTSA #11678123
All Honda Sensing technology is not working and brake system indicator is on. ACC, LKAS, Collision mitigation, auto high beam, road departure. I read online that a lot of Honda Odyssey owners are experiencing same problem. It could be the front camera sensor.I have always had electrical problems with car. There crackling sounds when the radio or music is playing on the stereos.
NHTSA #11678818
Upon start up my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L throws a slew of pop-up’s on the dash (collision mitigation problem, auto high beam problem, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keep assist problem, road departure mitigation problem). It's been doing this for months, but when it started, I had just gotten an oil change 2 weeks prior and knew my mechanic would've caught this if it was something major. Last week I took it back in for another oil change and asked them to check these errors. They checked the battery and it’s fine (under 2 years old), but they confirmed it's the adaptive cruise control camera. They said not many places work on those cameras and I'll have to have the dealer do the repair. Well upon searching, it seems pretty consistent that this repair is costing owners $1700 because the camera has to be recalibrated with the software after it's replaced. I'm also seeing this problem appears to be widespread for Honda owners. Honda needs to do something to make this right for their customers. A $1700 repair for a camera that randomly dies by no fault of the owner is insane, and considering how many driver assistance systems to improve safety are affected, Honda should be held accountable. NHTSA #11710321
The front camera is malfunctioning, affecting all of my safety sensors.
NHTSA #11678371
Multipurpose front windshield camera stops working and many safety features are affected by this camera. Lane departure warning is not working, lane keeping assistance not working, blind spot warning not working, brake system warnings. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and they confirm that the cause of all this problems is the Multipurpose front windshield camera. There was no warnings at all when this happens.
NHTSA #11666209
Starting at 50,000, I began receiving six different warning signs every time I turn on my car: (1) collision mitigation problem, (2) auto high beam warning, (3) lane keeping assist problem, (4) road departure mitigation problem, (5) adaptive cruise control problem, and (6) brake system light stays on. Online forums show this is a pervasive problem with 2020-2021 Odysseys at around 50,000 miles. Took it dealer for diagnostic, paid $229, and told me it would cost $2,000+ to fix.
NHTSA #11661826
Windshield monocular camera has became faulty. No longer have adaptive cruise control, lane departure, forward collision braking. Looks like about a $1,500 expense to fix. Seems like a very common problem.
NHTSA #11691960
Turned on the car. It was parked for 1 day after the last driving event with no issues. Today was 15 degrees hotter than yesterday. The following errors popped up on the dashboard: Adaptive cruise control problem Collision mitigation system problem Lane keeping assist problem Road departure mitigation system problem Auto high beam problem All of the advanced safety features which utilize the front camera and sensors are deactivated. Car was turned off and restarted multiple times, windshield cleaned, and car cooled down, but the warnings remain each time. This specific issue has happened 5 times over the past year. The dealer was never able to replicate the issue as it would go away as soon as the car was restarted. This time, the warning lights would not go away.
NHTSA #11659845
Multiple warning lights: 1. ACC- adaptive cruise control 2. LKAS- lane keeping assist problem 3. Collision Mitigation System Problem 4. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 5. Auto high beam Problem Safety issues: With almost all of these not working the risk of avoiding a possible accident is greatly increased. An independent service center read errors for the CAN. No prior warnings, they just came up. I have replaced the battery and the issues were not resolved. An inspection is possible.
NHTSA #11666132
I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey with approximately 73,000 miles that has experienced recurring infotainment and electrical system failures. The vehicle has undergone two prior repairs related to the Fakra connector issue, but the problem continues to occur. During the failure, the infotainment screen becomes inoperable, audio functions are affected, and the rearview backup camera becomes unavailable or unusable. The issue appears to be intermittent and is often triggered during or after rain. In addition to the infotainment failures, I have experienced key fob recognition issues requiring the key to be placed near the start button to start the vehicle. There is also static through the speakers, particularly when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle has been taken to a Honda dealership multiple times for this concern, and dealership personnel have witnessed the malfunction. Despite two previous repair attempts, the issue persists. Because the failure affects the operation of the rearview camera system, which is a critical safety feature, I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle and whether the prior repairs adequately addressed the underlying defect. I am submitting this complaint because numerous other Honda owners have reported similar recurring failures involving the infotainment system, Fakra connector repairs, backup camera operation, and related electrical concerns. I request that NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader defect affecting these vehicles and whether previous repair procedures are providing a permanent remedy. The dealer recently confirmed the fault was present and advised that additional diagnosis and consultation with Honda technical support would be required to determine the cause.
NHTSA #11744772
The multipurpose camera unit /mil radar internal electric failure (DTC's U3000-49) caused the majority of the safety features lights to come on and eventually stalled out. This part has failed twice already.
NHTSA #11742744
I am filing a complaint regarding recurring electrical and infotainment failures involving my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L. The vehicle experiences loud static and speaker distortion, infotainment system instability, static noises when turning the steering wheel, and intermittent key fob recognition issues requiring the key to sometimes be held near the start button. The issue appears to happen more often during or after rain or moisture exposure. The dealership has already repaired/replaced the FAKRA connector or related infotainment connector multiple times, yet the issue continues returning. The dealership recently witnessed the malfunction themselves and acknowledged the problem is still present. I am currently waiting for further direction from Honda technical support. This appears to be a widespread issue. There are many Reddit discussions and Honda owner Facebook groups where owners describe identical symptoms and repeated failed repairs. Some owners report having the same FAKRA connector replaced as many as six times with the issue still returning afterward. The repeated failure of the same repair raises concerns that the current remedy is ineffective and that there may be a larger electrical, wiring, grounding, or moisture intrusion issue involved. Because this problem continues after multiple repair attempts, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate recurring electrical and infotainment failures in Honda Odyssey vehicles and the repeated failure of the current repair solution.
NHTSA #11744106
My 2020 Honda Odyssey power tailgate has failed due to water intrusion through defective rear body seam sealer, a known manufacturing defect. Water leaked into the rear driver's side panel and damaged the power tailgate control module, making the rear door inoperable. I took my vehicle to the Honda dealership, who confirmed this is a factory defect related to improper seam sealing. The quoted repair cost is over $8000. Honda has declined to cover this under warranty. This defect poses a safety risk as the tailgate can open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. I am aware of a pending class action lawsuit involving 2018-2021 Honda Odyssey models with this same defect. No recall has been issued. I am requesting thr NHTSA investigate and compel Honda to issue a formal recall.
NHTSA #11740243
The power liftgate will not operate and the tailgate will not latch closed. The van was parked outside during a heavy rain, and when the vehicle was started afterward, a warning was displayed on the dash. The van has not been checked by the manufacturer. An inspection is available on request.
NHTSA #11729194
The same power tail gate issue as experienced by many others on models 2018-2022. Water intrusion causing the power module fail for auto operation of powerlift tail gate.
NHTSA #11730237
The vehicle unexpectedly shifts into Park while driving. Each time this occurs, I have to turn off the car, use the “Push to Start” feature to restart it, and then shift back into Drive. This issue has happened multiple times, creating a safety concern while on the road.
NHTSA #11726652
The sliding door will not open, either manually or automatically. This is a huge safety problem since my children cannot get in or out of the vehicle quickly in an emergency. What should I do if this happens on both doors, I will not be able to open either sliding door.
NHTSA #11717833
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that several safety features were disabled during the failure. The vehicle was driven to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the front multi-purpose camera had experienced internal failures. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.

Dash has warning light showing "Power Tailgate Problem", and power tailgate will not function. The next day there was heavy rain, and the dash had a flickering warning showing the tailgate was open. This also caused the interior lights to flicker on and off as the tailgate open warning was flickering on and off. I returned the van to my home for fear that the tailgate would open automatically while driving down the road. I had the tailgate control module replaced on February 27, 2025 for this same issue, which was due to a tailgate seal leaking water onto the tailgate control module that shorted the module. This is now the second time within less than one year this same module has shorted out. This is a known issue with a class action lawsuit already filed against Honda that should result in a recall. The potential danger of the tailgate opening while driving makes this minivan not usable to transport my kids for fear of their safety.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on two occasions while driving with the idle stop feature engaged, while the vehicle was idling and stopped, the engine failed to restart as intended when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer however, the failure was not able to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

The power tailgate control module has been failing. That makes power tailgate problem light come on, than the tailgate beeps and eventually fails. It unlatches itself, and won't latch until the control module has been replaced. My control module has been replaced 3 times, and now a week later after being replaced my tailgate has failed again, the power tailgate problem light is on and tailgate won't open. I was told by Honda dealership that theres a water leak that's causing it. Along with replacing the unit they are trying to seal it but it's still failing.

The vehicle would not go into neutral so i was stuck in the lane of a major highway. This happened twice before and Honda said they needed to reprogram the system. They did and now it has happened again leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation.

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions, multiple advanced driver assistance and safety systems suddenly became unavailable without warning. The systems affected include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, and related safety features that rely on the forward-facing camera. The failures occurred at the same time and were indicated by warning messages displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer, who confirmed a diagnostic trouble code indicating an internal electronic failure of the forward multipurpose camera. The failed component is installed behind the windshield and is available for inspection upon request. The dealer stated that no accident, physical damage, misuse, or external cause was identified. After the camera failure was identified, the vehicle also briefly displayed a transmission system warning message that later cleared on its own. In addition, the center display screen has shown unstable behavior while driving, including unexpected resets and flashing back to the navigation screen. The sudden loss of collision mitigation, lane assistance, and warning systems reduces the vehicle’s ability to assist in avoiding crashes, particularly in emergency situations, and increases safety risk to the driver, passengers, and others on the road.

The multipurpose camera unit failed causing the Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Braking, Lane Keeping Assistance, and Lane Departure warnings lights to come on and rendering all those systems inoperable. Part of the selling point of this vehicle is these additional safety features and for them to fail within 5 years of owning the vehicle is a safety concern. From my own research online, it seems this is a common problem for Odysseys built around this timeframe. This part is extremely expensive and is a required repair if you want the original safety features for the vehicle. I made the repairs, but the life of these units is something that should be looked into.

After purchasing my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L in July 2025 (had approximately 58,000 miles), in January 2026 (current mileage approximately 66,000 miles), it suddenly displayed multiple indicators on the dash, including 'ACC', 'LKAS', 'Brake System', 'Auto High Beam Problem', and 'Collision Mitigation'. My local mechanic indicated the cause was the collision radar system, but it needed to be calibrated at a Honda dealership. My local Honda dealership indicated the problem code as 'U3000-49 Internal Camera Malfunction', necessitating that the multi-purpose camera be replaced. The total repair cost was $2,104.99. Online research shows that this is a common issue with this model year. If the cause is due to a camera malfunction or disrepair, and it impacts the safety of myself and others in the vehicle, why is this not considered a valid reason for a recall? I shouldn't be responsible for a costly repair that didn't result from any mechanical issue or mistreatment on my part. Because of the safety implications, this should be a Honda recall, and I should be reimbursed for the repair cost.

I’m have had trouble with the infotainment center since less than 5,000 miles. Supposedly it was fixed during a recall. I still have issues with it. Shortly after the recall was done, I started having all kinds of dash lights come on. Transmission system problems, adaptive cruise control problems, lane assist problem, emergency breaking problems, forward collision problems, and so on. All together, they are about 7 different lights. The rear air/heat no longer work at all. Every so often, I crank it and the radio is black. Won’t work unless I restart the car. Auto headlights no longer work. Side mirrors no longer adjust. Sunroof will no longer open. Interior lights don’t work. Automatic doors and trunk lift do not work. I can’t even lock the van anymore. When I crank it, I have to hold the key fob on the ignition button and press 3 or more times before it cranks. Switch batteries in the key fob and still no different. I paid a lot of money for this van after never having one issue out of my 2014 Odyssey. The 2020 has been nothing but a nightmare since a month after I purchased it. I will never buy or recommend a Honda vehicle to anyone. In fact, I will discourage anyone who tells me they’re thinking about a Honda purchase. I am now stuck with a barely working vehicle because who can afford another car in this economy?

My Honda's multipurpose camera system has failed without warning or apparent cause. Upon starting my vehicle, I now receive multiple alert lights indicating simultaneous failures in critical safety systems including: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Collision Mitigation System Road Departure Mitigation System Auto High Beam functionality Occasionally, all the system failure alerts go away. According to my local Honda dealership, this represents an "internal failure" of the multipurpose camera unit (code U300-49). The dealership wants >$2,000 to fix the issue that appears to be a widespread known problem. There was no warning before the complete system shutdown, and all safety features connected to this camera are now non-functional.

The Multipurpose Camera Unit failed in my 2020 Honda Odyssey. This camera is responsible for enabling multiple advanced driver-assistance systems, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Auto High Beams. The component has not been replaced yet and is available for inspection upon request. The failure of the camera disabled multiple critical safety systems while the vehicle was in operation. These systems are designed to prevent lane departures, collisions, and unintentional road exits, especially at higher speeds. With the systems offline, I was at increased risk of collision or lane departure, particularly on highways or in low visibility conditions. This malfunction removed key layers of protection that the vehicle is designed to provide. The issue was confirmed by a Honda dealership on August 8th 2025, which diagnosed the problem as a failed multipurpose camera unit. They acknowledged that this malfunction disables all related safety systems. The vehicle was inspected by a certified Honda dealership technician, but not by police, insurance, or the manufacturer directly at this time. Multiple dashboard warning messages appeared simultaneously one day when starting the vehicle, including: "Collision Mitigation System Problem" "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem" "Lane Keeping Assist Problem" "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Auto High-Beam Problem" These messages first appeared on or around the end of June 2025, and the systems were disabled immediately upon the failure.

My Honda Odyssey, after a hot summer day showed error codes related to the front camera. The Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC), Auto high-beam (A); Road departure mitigation system, collision/braking mitigation system; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS) now are non-functional. Various internet users complain of the same issues without a conclusive source for the problem. It is either related to battery voltage or front-camera failure (possible due to heat/sun exposure). The 2020 vehicle was purchased used from dealer in 2024 where the battery was stated to have been replaced/new. Further, my vehicle has the infotainment package (TV/DVD) which has also previously drawn down the battery even after the car was shut off (i.e., the electronics and/air conditioning are drawing too much battery and causing low voltages that impact the camera-based sensors). Multiple internet users complain of parasitic battery draw, fuses, poor oem batteries, and faulty behaviors with the camera system.

The problem first appeared in May 2025 when multiple system failure lights illuminated simultaneously. After confirming the battery and alternator were in good condition, I took the van to Honda of Cleveland (2701 S Lee Hwy, Cleveland, TN 37311) for a diagnosis. Their service department confirmed that the ADAS Front Camera (36160-THR-A91) had failed, which disabled the following safety systems: Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assistance. I asked if this is a wear component (expected to need replacement over time) and was informed that it is not. The quoted cost to replace the camera and calibrate was approximately $1,400.

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my Honda Odyssey equipped with Honda Sensing technology. During normal operation and without any accident, impact, windshield damage, repair, or environmental event, all Honda Sensing safety systems suddenly and simultaneously stopped working. The disabled systems include Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, and related camera- and radar-based features. Multiple warning messages appeared, and the vehicle effectively lost all advanced driver-assistance and collision-avoidance capabilities at once. This occurred without warning and without any action on my part. This failure is extremely concerning because Honda Sensing features are marketed and relied upon as critical active safety systems intended to help prevent or mitigate crashes. A sudden, total loss of these systems materially reduces vehicle safety and places occupants and other road users at increased risk. A safety system that can fail entirely and unexpectedly—absent any triggering event—indicates a potential systemic defect, not routine maintenance or wear. I am concerned this issue may affect other Honda vehicles equipped with Honda Sensing and may be related to a common failure in cameras, radar units, software, or vehicle electronics. I respectfully request that NHTSA review and log this complaint, investigate this failure pattern, and determine whether a defect investigation, service bulletin, or recall is warranted in the interest of public safety. Following replacement of the small block in Dec. 2025 for bad pushrod bearings. The vehicle ran for 3000 miles, before the engine seized up again while driving at 50 mph. The vehicle came to a stop in the travel lanes and could not be moved due to engine failure. Upon having the vehicle towed back to the dealership for inspection and repair, they found that the #3 cylinder had both valves broken and metal pieces shavings found in the engine. The dealer claimed that this was not related to the previous replacement of the small block as they did not work on the headers. However I believe the original issue of the bad pushrod bearings caused poor oil flow to the headers and the valves were already worn before the Dec. 2025 engine seizure. The dealer has now replaced the small block (for a 2nd time) headers, intake manifold, injectors and timing chain.

My wife started hearing a knocking sound while driving, coming from under the hood. I opened the hood while the engine was idling and could tell the sound was coming from inside the engine. Checked the oil level and it was in the operating range and looked clean. I had just changed the oil and filter 08/2025. After that we immediately drove it to the Honda dealer where we purchased the vehicle and the service manager heard the noise, checked for recalls, but could only find the recall for the 2019 Honda Odyssey [XXX] The service manager called in one of his mechanics to listen to the noise in the service manager bay and he said, "Sounds like a bad rod bearing". They then took the vehicle to inspect it further in the mechanic's garage, but as they were pulling it into the bay the engine complete seized up. The vehicle only has 68k miles on it, but now its beyond the warranty period. I was also told by the dealer when I purchased it, that it and the 2019 are identical, so why was the recall issued for the 2019 Odyssey, but not the 2020 model? I'm reading lots of similar reports of this same exact issue with the 2020 model from Honda forums and on youtube posts. This engine problem is clearly larger than the initial recall that was issued in 2024. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving with family to a family trip up to the mountains to enjoy the snow when at a rest area I noticed the odyssey just had a slight delay to turning on before continuing the trip. No lights no signs of anything going wrong. As we continued our trip back onto the freeway on a curvy road and night time the odyssey didn’t want to shift gears wouldn’t speed up for freeway traffic. Immediately started pulling over. The odyssey would make like jerking movements decided to call the tow truck and it quickly escalated to draining the battery. After being at the tow facility for one night it completely didn’t want to even turn on next day. Put a new battery and still drains the battery. I took it to Honda service to run a diagnostic and they come back saying the engine is seized. No lights no signs didn’t see this coming with only 87,000 miles. Engine recently began making noise and the car was taken into Honda. The dealer checked engine components to find the cause and recommended that we remove oil pan to inspect the issue because they assumed it might be engine bearing related. Before we could schedule the service I was driving with my family on the highway when we heard a loud noise and complete loss of power. I was able to move over avoiding other cars to reach the shoulder and come to a stop. The car would not start or go into any gear. Car was towed to shop. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The car has not been inspected yet. Currently at shop being evaluated. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Engine was making noise at the dealership when it went for service. There was no concern made by dealer stating car was unsafe to drive. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Was inspected before the car broke down, but currently being evaluated by local shop. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There was an unknown noise coming from the engine, and dealer stated they needed to remove oil pan to diagnose the noise but stated it could be bearing related. The dealership did not say the car was unsafe or should not be driven. Before we could look into the issue more the car broke down on the highway.

Honda has been serviced at Honda of Ames #190 since 2022. 2023 - Issues with the engine stalling when it goes into idle mode at a stop. September 2023 – contacted Honda of Ames, IA dealer. They indicated it’s the battery which will need replaced. Took the car to Interstate Battery on 9/26/2023 where it tested at 12.5 volts out of possible 12.6 volts. Then took the car to dealer who insisted it was an issue with the battery. Replaced battery for $391. Problem continued. In 2024 there was a recall re: a known issue with the engine idle functionality requiring a software update. Took the vehicle in for the software update. Complained to the dealer that I unnecessarily spent $390 on new battery when that wasn’t the issue. They refused to refund any money. Problem persisted. On 5/21/2025 the car was brought into dealership for 100k service. I complained again that the auto-idle feature still stalling. Was told that it's not a universal known problem, they don’t have a fix that he’s aware of other than to check the battery. I explained we’ve been through this before and brought up Sept 2023 battery situation. He stated that the quick/handheld battery testers are not reliable; repair shops have “the big testers in the back” that are more reliable – that is what they will test my battery on. I asked if they could turn off the feature permanently and was told no. When car was ready I was told that the battery life tested fine. They did a software upgrade and I will need to drive it and just see if the stall issue continues. He repeated that it’s not a “universal known problem” and there was nothing further he could do. 7/5/2025 – the auto-idle has stalled twice since the service on 5/21/2025. Stalling in an intersection, at a red light, bottom of an off-ramp, etc.i s a serious and highly concerning safety issue.

I was driving and the message Power Tailgate Problem popped up on dashboard of Honda Odyssey 2020. When I got to my destination I tried to open the trunk and it would not open. I took the car to Honda and they said there's water somewhere that caused problem to the tailgate. I spent over $1,000 to fix it and two weeks after getting the car back, that same message popped up and the trunk would not open again. I did research on this and found out that this is a known issue/defect for all 2018-2021 models. Honda did not take any responsibility and blamed me for not taking the car to a body shop to fix whatever issue that's causing water to infiltrate. The multipurpose camera module has failed, on the vehicle resulting in the simultaneous loss of several driver-assistance and safety systems while the vehicle is in operation. These systems include cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision mitigation, automatic high beams, and the brake system warning. Upon inspection, there appears to be overheating within the camera module. This overheating has caused visible discoloration both inside and outside the module housing. Based on these observations, I believe the condition may present a potential fire hazard. Additionally, the plastic cover mounted to the windshield becomes extremely hot to the touch, creating a risk of skin burns if it is accidentally contacted. This malfunction poses a significant safety concern for my family. If the camera fails while driving, the vehicle’s safety systems may not function as intended, increasing the risk of an accident. All of the failures chime in one after another displaying a problem with the malfunctioning components stated earlier in the text. Furthermore, if a driver is deaf or not actively monitoring the instrument panel or speedometer, they may not hear or immediately notice the warning alerts indicating that these systems are no longer functioning. The issue has been diagnosed by my local repair shop finding error code U3000-49: Camera/Radar Internal Failure. Repair requires replacement of the multipurpose camera module, with an estimated cost exceeding $2,000 in parts and labor, which represents a significant financial burden.

The multipurpose camera in mounted underneath the rearview mirror stopped working. No apparent reason for the malfunction to shut the vehicle off while filling gas and then five different warning lights occurred, including issues with lane keep assist, adaptive, cruise control, automatic, breaking, and several other safety features no explanation for the failure when that vehicle was taken to the dealer and currently being charged $2500 for a replacement of the camera and labor associated with the repair. My belief is that the system is malfunctioning due to overheating, which is a design issue associated with the vehicle and isn’t something that I should be responsible for.

Power tailgate won't stay open. It is a known issue (Honda service bulletin 22-018) and has tried to close while people are underneath - including my small children. I have knocked my head into it numerous times since the issue started. The power liftgate opens, but then closes unexpectedly. It will open fully, dip down a couple inches, open back up fully and then close quickly. It does not stop closing when it meets moderate resistance, only stops when the button is pressed. I was unloading groceries into the back and it came down on me. Luckily, I was able to reach and press the button. Had it been my children I'm afraid it would have crushed them. This has now happened numerous times and through research I have found a Honda service bulletin about this known issue. I feel it should be a recall since it poses a safety hazard. As I said, it could really harm someone not able to move quickly or a child could lose a limb or be crushed. I shouldn't have to pay for a very expensive repair to maintain safety when Honda knows this is an issue caused by a defect in the spring assembly. Service bulletin 22-018. When pressing the accelerator, there is an extremely loud and abnormal noise coming from the fuel pump. The noise is so severe that it raises safety concerns while driving. The issue appears similar to fuel-pump–related problems reported in other recalled Honda vehicles.

The power tailgate system on my Honda Odyssey failed. The dashboard displays a “Power Tailgate Problem” warning message and the tailgate will not open automatically using the key fob, interior button, or rear handle. When attempting to open it electronically, the vehicle beeps but the tailgate does not move. The tailgate can only be opened manually. The vehicle and tailgate system are available for inspection upon request. The failure creates a safety risk because the tailgate cannot be opened electronically in situations where quick access to the rear cargo area may be needed. Additionally, if the power tailgate system fails unexpectedly, it could malfunction while opening or closing, potentially striking someone or failing during loading/unloading. The inability to rely on the automatic tailgate also creates hazards when carrying items or supervising children around the rear of the vehicle. The problem occurs consistently every time the power tailgate button is pressed. The system beeps but does not open. The issue has not yet been formally inspected by a dealer but can be easily reproduced. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives for this issue. A “Power Tailgate Problem” warning message appeared on the dashboard when attempting to use the power tailgate. At the same time, the vehicle emits a beep but the tailgate does not move. The issue began recently and has occurred every time the power tailgate has been used since the warning first

Sliding doors sometimes do not close all the way and then reopen automatically. You cannot press the sliding doors to close and walk away. You have to stay to make sure they close because often times it will kick back and reopen. You have to manually help push the sliding door to close. Elite trim has no way to make the doors be able to be closed manually, if needed. Took it to Honda, they said they have never heard of doors not closing and reopening so they could not help me, but I have spoken to quite a few Honda Odyssey owners in parking lots and they all stated that the doors do sometimes not close all the way and return to being fully open. Maybe the motor for the doors isn’t strong enough and depends on vehicle tilt or the temperature outside, but for whatever reason the automatic doors are randomly not fully closing.

This is now the second time that we are having a rear hatch failure. with about 37,000 miles on this van, the control module shorted out due to water getting into it due to a bad seam (according to other Odyssey owners who are suing Honda for this). We could not get the hatch to open or close, so I paid the dealer to fix it. Honda did give us a check after the fact to cover some of the bill. Now, with less than 51,000 miles, it has happened again. The hatch will not open or close. In the event of an emergency, this is a major safety issue, to be potentially stuck inside the cabin. The hatch started going up and down randomly, and we could not control it. Now, it won't go up or down. This van is is a mess. Not only does it have this issues, but the rear back up camera still does not work, even though it was recalled...they would not honor their recall, and the brakes occasionally come on without cause, when going around a corner and there is oncoming traffic. It thinks that we are headed for a collision, and it's another safety problem here in the northeast. Honda needs to own up to their quality problems relative to these three safety issues.

Multipurpose camera is defective- broken after only 80,000 miles. No longer functions at all. No automatic emergency braking, no forward collision warning, no lane departure warning, no lane keeping assistance, no adaptive cruise control. Dangerous now without all those computer controlled safety functions. $2400 replacement. I don’t have $2400.

I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey and I am currently having a safety issue with the power tailgate. Upon inspection by my Honda dealership, my vehicle requires a new power tailgate control unit and floor harness and my roof rail and clips need to be re-sealed and replaced. It was discovered that due to the break in seal the connectors corroded due to a water leak.In April of 2026 I received multiple warning messages on my dashboard. The first was Power tailgate problem and the second was keyless remote problem. At first I noticed my car continuously beeping while driving along with the warning on my dashboard. I attempted to turn the vehicle off to see if it would reset, but it did not. I attempted to open and close my tailgate. I could only open my tailgate with the push button on my dashboard. I had to manually close my tailgate due to my buttons on my car and my key fab failing to work. Next while driving, I could hear the locking mechanism on my tailgate continuously locking and unlocking. Of course this particularly concerned me because I have 3 young children and their safety as well as mine was in danger. It was unclear if my tailgate was going to open while driving. Such an action could potentially cause a serious threat or harm to myself, my family or other vehicles on the road.

Our Odyssey is equipped with idle stop. Sometimes when idle stop engages, the engine won't start again afterwards. We need to turn the car off completely, and then try again. Usually it turns on after doing so. We try to always turn off the idle stop when we start up the vehicle, but sometimes forget. This hasn't led to an accident yet, but has led to some angry vehicles when we can't move when a traffic light turns green. To be clear, this was not an isolated incident, but happens somewhat regularly if idle stop isn't turned off. Honda dealers have told us they don't have any fix, and have recommended that we could purchase a third party "idlestopper".

The tailgate control module has been water damaged and needed to be replaced twice. My local Honda dealership was unable to correct the issue and stated that it is due to a water leak in the frame of the vehicle/tailgate. The dealership has identified the tailgate control module as the cause of the electrical issues causing the battery to die, and advanced safety features to malfunction. Warning lights came on for break system problem, lane departure mitigation system problem, and many other systems all caused by the tailgate control module being water damaged from a leak in the frame.

2020 Honda Odyssey EX LKAS, Collision Avoidance, Auto High Beam etc. warning lights to cycle continuously. Had my Honda mechanic check problem and Camera Monocular, forward facing camera causing issues and requires replacement. This is only a 5 year old vehicle with 60,000 miles on it! Honda and many used auto parts want upwards of $850 for camera and then as much as $1500 to replace. This is a serious safety issue. None of this vehicles Safety assist items work without this camera.

Honda Odyssey Idle Stop system failure Vehicle: 2020 Honda Odyssey (Elite) Incident description: While driving, the vehicle's "Idle Stop" system engaged as I came to a complete stop at [e.g., a traffic light, intersection, stop sign]. The engine shut off as designed, but failed to restart automatically when I released the brake pedal. This left my vehicle stalled and disabled in the middle of [e.g., an intersection, a lane of traffic] with no forward power. I was scared as there were lots of cars behind me in the intersection. This has happened over a dozen times. Safety risk: This failure created an immediate and dangerous safety hazard. My vehicle was a risk for being rear-ended by traffic from behind, and my family was stranded in a vulnerable position. The vehicle was unable to move out of harm's way, and I had to put the vehicle in park and manually restart the engine. This is unacceptable for a system designed to work seamlessly and automatically. Additional information: This is not an isolated incident. The auto start-stop failure has occurred multiple times since March 2025. The system failure has put me and my passengers in a position of significant risk multiple times. Failed component: The vehicle's "Auto Idle Stop" (AIS) system, which failed to restart the engine after it was automatically shut off. Resolution: An immediate and permanent recall is necessary to address this dangerous defect. Existing service bulletins have not corrected the problem. I urge the NHTSA to require Honda to provide an effective, long-term solution to ensure the safety of Odyssey owners.

My can intermittently fails to start after the auto idle start system has engaged. I am stopped at a light on a busy road. When the light turns the car tries to start but fails. Some times it is able to start but I get warnings that multiple systems had an issue or at disabled. Other times it fails to start completely and I have to cycle the power off and open my driver door before I can start the car. This has been happening for more than a year and the battery has already been replaced.

Internal failure of the multipurpose camera/millimeter wave radar unit with code U300-49; available for inspection upon request. All safety features linked to multipurpose camera such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto high beam, collision mitigation system, and road departure mitigation system are no longer functional. This problem has been confirmed at the local Honda dealership in addition to the numerous forum posts made by like Honda Odyssey owners with this same reoccurring issue. There were no warning symptoms or messages prior to failure.

Make: Honda Odyssey 2020 Mileage at Failure: ~40,000 miles Incident Description What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The front sensing camera system failed, which controls multiple driver-assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Lane Departure Mitigation, and Collision Mitigation Braking System. When the issue occurred, all related dashboard warning lights illuminated simultaneously. The vehicle’s front camera module is still installed and can be made available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the camera malfunctioned, all driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems were disabled without warning. This created a serious safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly lost its lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation capabilities while in motion. It increased the risk of a crash, especially during highway driving or when relying on these systems for lane and speed control. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The Honda dealership confirmed the issue after diagnostic testing and stated that the front camera module had failed and must be replaced. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Honda dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The dashboard displayed multiple warning messages, including: ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Mitigation These warnings appeared suddenly at approximately 40,000 miles and have persisted since. The dealer quoted $2500 Also I found numerous reports from other Honda owners experiencing the same camera-system failure at low millages.

The contact attempted to inspect the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the contact was informed by the technician that the failure might be from the wiring connected to the rearview camera. The contact declined to pay for a diagnostic test. The contact attempted to repair and realign the rearview camera; however, the part needed to realign the camera could not be purchased and could only be serviced at a Honda dealer. Complete infotainment system loss and screen blackouts Repeated “Network connection lost” errors Inoperative reverse camera and parking assist systems Ongoing 12V battery drainage due to system faults My Honda dealer has diagnosed the problem as a defective floor wire harness and advised that the entire harness kit must be replaced at an estimated cost of approximately $7,000. While I greatly appreciate the 80% goodwill coverage already offered, the remaining $1,400 out-of-pocket expense is still a significant hardship — particularly since this is a known and documented defect affecting vehicle safety systems. This issue directly impacts the federally mandated rear visibility system (FMVSS 111), rendering the reverse camera and related safety functions inoperative. As such, this is not simply a convenience or infotainment problem, but a critical safety concern. Honda is charging $7000 to fix it and now it says it’s the floor harness kit. They are only covering 80%. I’m required to pay 1400 even though this is a known problem with this vehicle and it’s been occurring since I have owned the vehicle due to multiple visits to the dealership for a resolution, thousands of dollars being spent trying to figure out what it was, we already replaced the head unit and Head unit harness, multiple sensors on the doors, which were not even necessary because the battery was draining from the head unit and now I have no camera and my car is crashing and shutting off and Honda is refusing to escalate

The forward-facing camera and/or radar unit failed one morning while running errands, resulting in 5 separate ADAS system failures. With these safety features not working, our safety and the safety of others is at risk. We took it to our dealer and were told we would have to pay a diagnostic fee of $205, even though they clearly already knew what the problem was- based on the multiple complaints through NHTSA and various other forums and websites from Odyssey and other Honda model owners and across multiple years. The problem was confirmed by the dealer and they quoted us $2025 and we're still not sure if that includes just the camera and/or the radar unit, which is another $600 part. Other dealers have quoted only $1200 to fix the exact same thing, with others charging more than double that. The 5 separate warning messages scroll across our screen repeatedly and are very distracting as you're driving. With multiple electrical issues already in recall status by Honda, this is another one that they should be taking responsibility for and not dumping this defective electrical repair on their customers. Who's to say that we won't be in this exact same predicament 3 or 5 years from now if the part or parts aren't fixed! Definitely expect more from Honda... very disappointed and feel betrayed by the inferior parts they're passing on as quality products.

Our Odyssey has had mounting concerns w/electrical system. These are safety issues. 10/20. Work done related to electrical system-rear camera having issues. Left/rt rear door wires were replaced due to recall. Software update completed. Gage control module software updated-know issue.10/23: rear windshield wiper not functioning-electrical issue & pump malfunctioned. Idol stop was not properly working. The car would stall out at stoplights as lifting foot off the brake & attempting to accelerate. Battery was replaced at this time & the vehicle was only 3 years old-we were charged. Issues with our car are electrical related & are seeing many others with similar issues. 8/24-11/24: key fob batteries died. After batteries were changed, issues with the power windows began immediately. Windows would not going/up or down all the way and were sticking. Soon after they stopped working all together. Auto locks wouldn’t work & the gas tank latch had to manually open to fill the gas tank. Finally took the car in for diagnosis. Said the motor in the door was broken & needed to be replaced. We were not convinced that this was the real issue b/c the problem began immediately after the fob battery issue. Instead of new parts, the dealer glued pieces together & gave us a discounted price. This was & is a real safety concern especially knowing windows were altogether not functioning & we don't believe that it was properly addressed. 2/25: After snow/icy weather front passenger side windshield wiper dispenser/sprayer wasn’t working. Upon checking, discovered it had become dislodged. Adjusted the piece & reattached this piece into place. As soon as car was turned on ,right after reinserting the piece into place warning lights came on-all brake/lane mitigation lights. After diagnosis, said it was an issue with camera at windshield & the camera needed to be replaced. Odyssey groups state electrical issue are know and many w/2020 Odysseys. 5/25 Issues are beginning again with idol stop.

Our vehicle has stalled at stop lights several times over the past 6 years. The auto stop/start feature seems to fail. The vehicle will shut off but when you repeat the brake it will not restart and the vehicle will die completely. You have to put it in park, wait a few seconds and try and restart. Additionally it has completely died at gas station after turning it off to refuel. When you go to start the vehicle it will be completely dead, zero power. We had to have it jump started. The battery has been replaced twice and was testing normal at the dealership. Not a battery issue. Honda acts like this is unheard of but our own research indicates it is a common well known problem with new Odyssey models.

After being on idle on a stop light, when releasing the brake to go, warning on dash says "Collision Mitigation Warning" when nothing hit the car and I'm there's enough distance with the car in front and behind. The severity has increased now, after being idle, when releasing the brake, it now completely shuts off, dash says "Shift to Park", and can't go, unless I push the ignition button. Took it 3x for the same errors on dash, Honda said the 1st time it was low battery, battery was running on low juice and didnt have power to come back from idle, they changed the battery. Now they say they need to replace the starter after few thou$and$. I see online this happening to others too. I fear the car behind me, may rear end me, because I can't go, green light is on, but I can't move as I'm re-starting the vehicle after being on idle. Honda says my VIN is not part of the bad batch. Upon starting the vehicle, it failed to engage in reverse. Although the backup camera activated, the vehicle remained stationary. After multiple ignition cycles, the vehicle eventually engaged in reverse and then moved forward in Drive. However, shortly after, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and entered "limp mode," restricting speed to approximately 15–20 mph regardless of throttle input. The engine revved excessively high without corresponding acceleration, and a severe burning/heat smell emanated from the transmission/engine compartment. This failure occurred without any prior warning; notably, no dashboard warning lights or "Check Engine" indicators illuminated to alert the driver of a mechanical or electronic fault. The sudden, un-signaled drop in speed on a public roadway created a significant safety hazard for following traffic and risked a rear-end collision. The vehicle was towed to a certified Honda dealership where the Transmission Control Module (TCM) was diagnosed as failed. The TCM is currently being replaced under the Honda Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty. We do not know what else requires replacement and repairs. The dealership will not cover the replacement of the transmission fluid, or engine fluid, despite the fluid being subjected to extreme heat and potential damage during the failure and subsequent limp mode.

For the last few days I turn on my car and get alert lights that I have problems with: the ACC, LKAS, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation systems and auto high beams. From online Honda forums I can see that many people have had these problems and it’s likely due to needing to have the windshield camera replaced. This is a 2020 model but I bought it new in 2021, so it is less than 5 years old and I’ve got 94k miles on it. Honda markets itself on its safety features, but nearly all of my safety features are not operating properly less than 5 years from the date of purchase, it’s a widespread issue, and Honda still has not issued a recall.

When driving from West Hartford to Westerly on June 3, serious banging started coming from the left rear undercarriage. I stopped by a local Midas shop which identified the problem as a totally broken rear spring which created a dangerous driving situation. At the time, the van had 57K miles on it. The shop strongly advised that we should consider the van as inoperable, and we subsequently had them make repairs. I contacted the dealer, Westbrook Honda in Westbrook CT,. The service manager relayed that he had never heard of a broken spring on a vehicle with these few miles, but the certified warranty coverage expired in August 2024. He recommended I contact Honda Customer Service as this failure appeared to warrant consideration due to its rarity and severity. Honda Customer Service responded by agreeing to cover damage for only half the incurred cost because we didn't bring it to a Honda dealership, despite doing that would have constituted a severe driving safety exposure. Their acknowledgement indicates that this may be evidence of faulty manufacturing of the spring which would appear to warrant NHTSA review and assessment. My Vehicle was at the dealer for service in March of 2025. At that time they performed RECALL 23-008 although the vehicle did not have issues with the idle stop system. Since some time in June, at multiple occasions, the vehicle shifted to Park on its own when restarting from idle stop. Last night, the vehicle fully shut off and lost all electrical power when restarting from idle stop leaving me stranded in the dark at a busy intersection without the ability to turn on my hazard lights. The vehicle repowered after a few minutes. When the system restarted, the info-tainment system activated the anti theft software which happens during full power loss.

On [XXX], while driving my wife to the RDU airport, our Odyssey's engine failed to restart after an Auto Idle Stop (AIS) at a busy intersection in Greensboro. Instead of starting, the dashboard displayed a Collision Mitigation System Problem alert, the Drive ("D") indicator light started flashing, and then the dashboard displayed a "Shifting to Park: Apply Brake Pedal" message. We were stranded at a busy stoplight, at the front of a dedicated left-turn lane, unable to drive or shift to park as instructed. The only way to resolve the issue was to hold the Start/Stop button for several seconds to shut the vehicle off. And the vehicles behind us had to swerve around us because our malfunctioning vehicle was blocking the lane. This problem has recurred semi-regularly since [XXX], forcing us to manually disable the Auto Idle Stop feature on every drive to prevent being stranded in traffic. An independent mechanic found no stored diagnostic codes but identified relevant Honda Technical Service Bulletins (23-008 and 23-009) addressing similar AIS failures. A Honda service center misdiagnosed the issue as a faulty battery, but subsequent testing by the independent shop confirmed the battery was in excellent working order. The actual Auto Idle Stop malfunction remains undiagnosed. The vehicle and its Auto Idle Stop system remain available for inspection. Subject: Urgent Vehicle Safety Concern – Sudden Malfunction and Safety Risk On [XXX], at approximately [XXX, I experienced a traumatic incident when my vehicle unexpectedly malfunctioned while I was driving home. After making a left turn on a green signal from [XXX] toward the Community, the car suddenly stalled. By God's grace, I managed to cross Woodbridge Avenue before stopping, avoiding a major traffic obstruction. However, it came to a complete stop in the middle of the street, creating a hazardous situation. After a brief pause, the car moved approximately 10 yards before stopping again, becoming completely immobile in the middle of a public road. Attempts to jump-start the battery failed. All warning lights turned on, but the engine would not start. The vehicle could not be restarted or moved under its own power. 911 was called, and police responded promptly to the scene. With the assistance of my wife, police officers, and local neighbors, a tow company was called to remove the vehicle from the roadway. It was then towed and parked in a nearby lot. This incident was highly traumatic and posed a serious threat to my safety, my family's safety, and the safety of the public. Diagnostics and expert assessments indicate the issue may be related to a manufacturer defect, which is deeply concerning given that this is a new vehicle. At this time, the vehicle is no longer drivable. I am seeking urgent assistance to resolve this matter with the manufacturer and to ensure that other consumers are not exposed to similar risks. The auto idle start/stop feature failed to recognize a bad battery and shut the car off while I was stopped in the left turn lane. The vehicle failed to start and lost all power, including hazard lights and brake lights. I had no way of indicating to other drivers behind me that the vehicle was disabled other than getting out of the vehicle and waving them around me. This happened while I was taking my son to school and could have resulted in us getting in an accident or causing another accident. Honda was not able to identify root cause and replaced the battery. I do not trust this vehicle as reliable or safe any longer.
