Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.
Reported consequence: Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023 Civic Type R vehicles. The driver's seat frame may not have been welded properly, which can cause the seat cushion frame to break. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 207, "Seating Systems."
Reported consequence: A broken seat cushion frame may not adequately restrain the driver during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front driver seat cushion frame assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 10, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is TDY.
The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the steering wheel was jumping uncontrollably. The steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. The maintenance light was illuminated. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering). An appointment was scheduled with the local dealer, and the contact was informed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact stated that the steering wheel was sticking. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The contact stated that in December 2024 the vehicle was repaired under a recall for the steering; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 31,500.

The contact's wife owns a 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized in the direction that the steering wheel was turned. The contact stated that because of the failure, the steering wheel failed to return to center. The contact was forced to manually adjust the steering wheel to the center to resume normal driving. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a defective rack and pinion gear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,500.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the contact followed the road with a slight left curve. The contact stated that while turning the steering wheel to the left and then attempting to straighten the steering wheel, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact had to use force to steer the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rack and pinion gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V704000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH, while turning right, the steering started sticking. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while turning to the left. Additionally, the contact stated while driving on an uneven road surface, the steering wheel was not responding while making corrections; and the Lane Departure sensor was inoperable. The engine is making a knocking noise, but there’s no code or check engine light. The noise is more pronounced when the vehicle is idling and when you apply and release the brakes. Start the car, let it warm up on idle, open the oil cap, apply the brakes, and then release them. The noise becomes louder. It could be the vacuum pump, but Honda has never addressed this issue.

The contact stated that upon further inspection, the vehicle was consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil. The message "Maintenance Required" was displayed on the instrument panel. In addition, several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the engine oil was refilled prior to and after the failure; however, the failure reoccurred. Several local dealers were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle lost motive and unintendedly decelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle regained normal functions shortly after the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred approximately 2 months later while driving 70 MPH up an entrance ramp. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact who is a certified mechanic, informed the dealer of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V031000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Electrical System); however, the dealer was unable to repair the vehicle because the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,500.
