Below are recalls and complaints reported to NHTSA for the 2023 Gmc Yukon Xl. This information is consumer-reported and provided for general informational purposes only. Vehicles like this may qualify under California lemon law depending on their individual repair history.
The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.
Reported consequence: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The rear suspension outer control arm bolts may not have been properly heat-treated, which can cause the bolts to break.
Reported consequence: A broken suspension bolt can result in misalignment of the rear wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 14, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020; Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006; and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N232415910.
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Reported consequence: Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447990.
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Reported consequence: DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N222386380. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-827.
The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
lost power going down highway and coasted to a stop on the side of the road. car was towed to a nearby gmc dealership and after inspection a new 6.2 motor is needed. I did not notice any warning signals when I lost power.

This vehicle was identified as recalled in 2025 for total engine replacement and the engine did fail in May 2025 it would stall while driving. GMC performed the engine replacement in June of 2025. The car stalled again on Friday May 1. It was taken to the dealer on May 7 and was diagnosed as needing another complete engine replacement. I was told that gmc identified a need to replace more parts after my engine was replaced but I was never informed of this. I was told my this dealership that I am the first vehicle they’ve seen that will require a second full engine replacement It is a 6.3L v8. This car stalled while I was driving with a 3yo in the vehicle.

My 2023 GMC Yukon Denali is currently at the dealership due to a manufacturer recall involving the engine. The engine issue occurred while I was driving with my children in the vehicle, which required me to pull over and have the vehicle towed to the dealership After inspection, I was told the vehicle requires a full engine replacement. The dealership has stated there is no estimated time of arrival for the replacement engine due to backorder, and that other customers have been waiting for extended periods. I am currently without my vehicle and have been provided a temporary replacement that is not comparable. The extended delay and lack of timeline are causing significant loss of use.

I was on the highway heading home with my [XXX] son in the backseat and without warning the engine shut down and luckily we were on the exit ramp and away from heavy traffic. I pulled over to the side and tried to start it again but it won’t even crank. The cabin heater stopped working too, It was -9 Degrees outside that day and we started to freeze, luckily my wife was able to get to us in 20minutes. The vehicle was towed to GM dealership and they confirmed the engine seized and will need a new engine under special coverage N252494003-03. This was after the recall was completed for this vehicle. It had only 61392KMS on it. We live in [XXX] and it gets extreme winters with below -40degree temperatures. It’s a remote area and there is no service on the highway for 200KMS when heading south to city, if this would have happened on the highway with no services and extreme weather we wouldn’t have made it out alive. We are a family of 5 with a [XXX] and a [XXX] and we bought this vehicle after knowing that the engine recall was completed and GM deemed it safe. Unfortunately that’s a lie and GM is putting peoples safety and life at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

on 2/28/26 i experienced complete engine failure on my 23 Yukon. I was going 70mph on the highway when the engine kicked and and kicked into neutral. the car spent 6 weeks in the dealer to have the engine replaced. i picked up the car on Wednesday, 4/15. On 4/16, i was once again driving, as normal when it suddenly turned off and kicked into neutral. 1 day after I picked up the vehicle it is once again being towed back to the dealer for the same symptoms it had when the entire engine had to be replaced. Both times, there is no warning. The car dings and a message comes up saying "restart vehicle". On 2/28, the car would not restart. On 4/16, the car did restart but only temporarily This is a major safety problem. The first occurrence I was going 70mph on the highway when i lost power. The second occurrence, I was driving 20mph on my neighborhood street and suddenly lost all power.

2023 Yukon XL Denali passed the pico scope changed to 0W40 and 3 months later stopped working in the middle of driving just completely shut down. Engine started to smoke had it towed to dealership and they removed my oil filter and found crankshaft bearings in the filter. Needs a new engine now. Bought it brand new only has 45,000 miles on it currently.

Drove vehicle to town and back, 20 mile round trip. When entering my property, the Engine stalled while pulling into driveway. Upon cranking, was very hard to start. When taking the next trip after engine stall, vehicle died in motion at 60mph approaching a traffic intersection with no warning, leaving very little time to navigate to the shoulder and off the roadway. Engine will not crank over, suspect Engine has failed again, currently at dealer awaiting diagnostics. No lights, warnings, noises or indications of Engine failure were observed during the drive cycle.
NHTSA #11724258
Complete engine failure on highway at speeds of 70. The vehicle was inspected per the recall on this engine and it passed inspection prior to purchasing. The vehicle now needs a complete engine replaced per local GMC dealer.

ON 2/22/2026 WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM WEST, TEXAS ON FM 2311 WE WERE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHILE WE WERE ENTERING TH ECONSTURCTION ZONE THE VEHICLE SAID START THE CAR WE WERE DRIVING IN THEN I NOTICED WE LOST PROPULSION AND STEERING AND BRAKES WERE VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE MY WIFE AND 10 YEAR CHILD WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. THIS ROAD HAD NO SHOULDERS AND A VERY STEEP DEEP EMBANKMENT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE WERE TRAPPED BETWEEN TWO HILLS WITH NO WAY TO STAY SAFE OR GET THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE SPOT TO KEEP TRAFFIC FROM HITTING US OR THE CAR WE HAD TO GO STAND DOWN THE BOTTOM OF THE EMBANKMENT TO TRY AND STAY SAFE AS BEST AS WE COULD. THE LEROY TEXAS VOLUENTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME UP ON US AND WAS ABLE TO BLOCK TRAFFIC UNTIL THE CAR WAS TOWED TO OUR HOME THEN TO FREEDOM CHEVROLET IN FAITFIELD TEXAS ON2/23/2026 ON 2/23/2026 WE MADE A CLAIM WITH GM CLAIM#89328131 AND HAVE BEEN IGNORED BY THEM TOLD THEM A ENGONE REPLACEMENT DOES NOT FIX THE SAFTEY ISSUE PERMANTLY SO I AM REPSPECTFULLY REJECTING THE REPAIR TOLD DEALER NOT TO FIX. WE HAD A RECALL DONE ON 11/17/2025 FOR THIS ISSUE AND IT FAILED US WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SEROIOUSLY INJURED. THIS IS A MASSIVE SAFTEY ISSUE WE EVEN ASKED GM FOR A BUY BACK OR A SWAP AND WE CALLED TODAY ON 2/27/2026 AND GM TOLD US JOHN WHOEVER THAT IS WOULD CALL US BACK NEVER CALLED US. GM EVEN ACTED LIKE THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CLAIM NUMBER WHEN I HAVE AN EMAIL ABOUT IT. i AM NOW VERY WORRIED THAT GM WILL TRY TO ERASE ALL THE DATA FROM THE VEHICLE RECORDING DEVICE AKA BLACK BOX. GM MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE I OWN 3 GM VEHICLES WORTH A TOTAL OF ALMOST 300K ALL HAVE A MAJOR SAFTEY RECALL .

my engine was part of L87 engine GMC Yukon Xl 2023 recall, they checked the car at 41,000Miles in aug-sept 2025, then they suggested different oil to be used, they changed the oil and thats it, 5000 miles later my engine died on the high way, it shut off and car seized and shut off on the highway and did not move. I towed it to the GMC dealership, they confirmed the engine is seized, but they have been very secretive, they did not tell me whats wrong, they been some what ignoring me, I dont have a car its been few days, no one reached out to tell me whats happening, no offer to give me a loaner, when I kept bugging me they said we're opening the enigne to send the broken part inside to the GMC headquarters, I asked to know what's the issue what's happening but I'm worried they will do another short cut, I need your help on what to do next

On two separate occasions, while driving at approximately 60 mph on New York parkways, my vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral and lost power without warning. During the first incident, a message appeared instructing me to “press start to continue.” I was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. Two days later, the same failure occurred again under similar conditions. This time, after pulling over and pressing the start button, the vehicle shut off completely and became totally inoperable. The vehicle had no power and would not restart. At the time of this second incident: - I had my [XXX] child in the vehicle - The outside temperature was approximately 20 degrees - Recent snow made it difficult to pull fully off the parkway - Police assistance was required to ensure our safety - We waited nearly two hours for a tow truck due to the hazardous roadside conditions This situation was frightening, dangerous, and completely unacceptable in a modern vehicle with approximately 24,000 miles. When GMC evaluated the vehicle the following day, I was informed that it requires a full engine replacement. A catastrophic engine failure at this mileage — combined with repeated, sudden loss of power at highway speeds — represents a serious safety defect that substantially impairs the use, value, and safety of the vehicle. I was on the interstate and when I was passing a vehicle in the middle lane the engine lost power, shifted to N. I tried going back to drive it would not shift. Stopped the suv and tried restarting it. When I pushed on the brake and tried to start it the whole vehicle would loose power to all my screens. I had this vehicle towed in back in September 2025 due to not cranking over when starting. They did the recall for the engine at that time. The engine light would randomly turn on but would go back off within the same day.

Engine issue crankshaft problem
NHTSA #11719730
The vehicle was running perfectly fine. We pulled into a service station to fill up the gas tank, and suddenly it wouldn’t start at all. We had no choice but to have it towed to McKenzie GMC in Milton, Florida. After several days of waiting, we were told we now “need another engine.” Yes—another engine. This is completely unacceptable. This same vehicle already had its engine replaced in 2025 under recall 25V274000. It passed the PICO test, and the oil was changed to the updated 0W‑40 viscosity exactly as required. There is absolutely no reason a vehicle with a recently replaced, recall‑compliant engine should be failing like this. Something is seriously wrong with this vehicle, and it needs to be addressed immediately. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

We had the L87 engine recall completed at 14,318 miles on Nov 20, 2025 on our 2023 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2L engine. Engine passed all tests by dealer and we were sent on our way with 0W-40 and a new oil cap. Fast forward to Jan 21, 2026.... My wife pulled the vehicle out of driveway and noticed a deep pitched, knocking sound. She slowly started to drive down the street a bit and then the vehicle shut off and displayed a warning message on the dash (this was on a cold engine, not due to the absurd auto start/stop feature). She was able to restart and get vehicle back to the garage. We had just rolled 15,000 miles on the odometer the day before. Immediately called our dealer and had an appointment set for the next day. We were able to drive vehicle to dealer with knocking and reduced power during the drive. Dealer confirmed next day that an excessive amount of metal was found in oil and on oil filter element then supplied us with video evidence. A complete teardown has been ordered but no cause has yet been identified as of Jan 29, 2026. Service tech stated as we walked back into the dealer that "you are getting a new engine based on the amount of metal found in the oil sample". I asked about timeline for engine replacement and was told that we are looking at a month if not longer until we will get the vehicle back. We know that we are VERY fortunate to not have had the engine shutdown happen on a highway as my wife would have most certainly panicked in the situation possibly leading to a catastrophic event.
NHTSA #11714655
The engine experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure after the vehicle had been inspected by the manufacturer and certified as compliant with an engine recall. The failure occurred after the recall remedy/inspection was completed. The engine lost functionality while the vehicle was in use, resulting in loss of propulsion and the vehicle becoming disabled, requiring towing. The engine is currently available for inspection and is awaiting major powertrain repair at an authorized dealership. The sudden engine failure created a safety risk due to unexpected loss of power while driving. No collision occurred. The issue has been confirmed by an authorized dealership. The vehicle had previously been inspected by the manufacturer as part of the recall process prior to the failure. Prior to the failure, there were no known warning lamps or messages indicating an imminent catastrophic failure. The failure occurred after the vehicle had passed the recall inspection. This appears to be a post-recall remedy failure. I am concerned that the recall inspection did not adequately prevent the known defect, as the engine failed after being certified as compliant.

On 12/22/2025 I took my 2023 GMC Yukon in for the L87 recall. After receiving information that my vehicle passed the recall they told me that the oil would be change to from OW-20 to OW-40 and that my oil changes would go up in price (double the price) due to the oil being a high performance oil. On 01/05/26 exactly two weeks and 616 miles later our engine and lights completely stopped working while driving it on the road!!! The vehicle would not start or switch into neutral so we could get the vehicle off the road due to blocking traffic! The vehicle was towed the GMC dealership and had to have a new engine replacement. We were out of our vehicle for 31 days. Now our vehicle rear view camera guidelines have stopped working and now have to put that under warranty claim.

My family and I received a recall notice from GM. We took the vehicle in promptly and had it "repaired" by an authorized dealer. They replaced the oil cap and placed a sticker in our owner's manual. This Christmas, instead of going to Angel Fire, New Mexico, like we do every year to visit family, we stayed home in the Rio Grande Valley. On December 28, 2025, my family decided to go holiday shopping. With kids home from college, and others off from school, I packed my wife and kids (there are six of us) into our 2023 Yukon XL to go shopping. I was driving down a busy 3 lane road with a 55 mph speed limit. By the Grace of God, I had just turned from the center lane to the right (outer) lane when our Yukon lost ALL POWER and the display read something like "Press Start/Ignition." I was utterly confused because I didn't understand what was happening. The accelerator would not work. My college daughter who was in the back asked "Dad, why did you put it in neutral?" I had not, in fact, put the vehicle in neutral. Scared with the passing traffic and sudden slowing of our Yukon, I had not realized that the vehicle had put me in neutral somehow. I tried to shift or click into the drive, but the vehicle would not respond. At some point my wife started yelling "Memo, GET OVER, GET OVER!!" I was able to coast just into the entrance of a gas station. We waited for a towing company to pick us up. Since the episode, we have now learned about this happening to other people. I can't believe that GM is letting this happen to people. We brought our vehicle in as instructed! We trusted that their "test" showed that our engine was fine. We trusted their alleged fix. I'm still in disbelief that the event occurred. I'm a grown man, and I was frightened when this occurred. I'm thankful to the Lord that one of my kids had not been driving the vehicle, or that we had been on our yearly trip to Angel Fire. Please, please, do your best to ensure that this stops happening to families.

Vehicle was taken to dealership and test was run. Service manager notified me it passed and told us about change of oil. Then recently engine stopped on us twice on the interstate with no power. We finally got it to the dealer and while they were test driving it lost power and they had to have it towed. Now we have been told we are needing a new engine and have not been given any time line. We have also read that many time the solution even on the new engine is not fixing all issues. We just want a safe vehicle returned to us.

Engine failure at 38k miles No service lights on dash. GM says 4 months to get replacement motor with very little help on getting rental car
NHTSA #11699037
While traveling on the interstate my vehicle shuttered and lost power we went to a friend’s neighborhood and the vehicle stalled when we pulled in no lights had come on until then and a knock had started. With no where to pull over I finally got the vehicle started and drove it straight to our friends house and left in on the side of the street. I had to take there vehicle home and called ONSTAR to tow it to the dealership. I have to pay for the over mileage because I was out of town when it happened.
NHTSA #11697347
The vehicle has experienced numerous losses of power, it has nearly stalled during normal operation, there is a horrible knocking noise coming from the engine. I have had the vehicle into the dealership who state they are unable to recreate the issue, and since the vehicle has been turned off the recorder shows noting either. They have performed an inspection and changed the oil, but the vehicle still has the issue. It knocks and shudders like it's cold, it comes very close to stalling and then seems to recover, this has happend twice while making left hand turns, it has completly lost power even while depressing the gas, but again they indicate they can't recreate it, so there is nothing they can do. I am scared for my safety, and that of the child I drive daily. There have been several instances in the last few months.
NHTSA #11697077
The vehicle underwent a recall inspection on September 8, but on October 2, the vehicle still experienced a serious engine failure. The vehicle was undrivable, and the dealer inspected it and opened a TCA case. However, General Motors stated that it had passed the recall test and was not covered under special warranty, and asked me to pay $5,000 for vehicle repairs. I believe this is an engine malfunction related to the recall, and the manufacturer should replace the engine for me free of charge and refund my 5,000 .

2023 Gmc Yukon XL SLT 5.3 Liter V8 engine As i was crusing on hiway my engine gave up lost of power knocking noise and check engine light appeared on dash it was a very serious matter when you are on hiway and engine fails on you ive gotte the car diagnosed it had known issue like the rest of GM trucks and suv Lifter failure/camshaft/push rods complete engine had to be either replace or professional rebuilt. This vehicle brand new is almost $100k vehicle which shouldnt have had this issue under 2 years of ownership and paying out of my own pocket. I urge NHTSA to take this matter in to consideration and have the GM 5.3 liter V8 engine under recall just like they have with the 6.2 liter V8 engine they have the same problem with the lifters, camshaft, pushrod failure. Thank you

Driving and pulling up into my driveway when suddenly the message “push start button to start engine” comes on with an alert sound - I notice my gear is lighting up “N” and when I pushed the start button it sounded like my engine restarted. I remained in neutral and had to change it back to drive myself. The engine randomly cut off
NHTSA #11679574
All of a sudden while driving on [XXX] in PA, the vehicle made a loud click noise, started squealing and randomly slowing down as if we were slamming on the brakes, but it was all engine related. Then it was shaking vigorously while we were parked. We got towed to a local shop in the middle of nowhere, and they just called stating it could be a valve spring that broke and they’d have to take the valve cover off to determine it. I have had two incidents. The vehicle is hesitant. It’s spudders, it stalls. You can hear it in the engine at idle and especially at cold start.
NHTSA #11677292
I was at a stop on my street needing to cross a busy one. I stepped on gas to quickly move forward and it stalled. Almost causing a wreck. I have taken it in to gm it had a recall and they said it was fixed and now there is another recall and it has been at least three months now that our dealer can not resolve this issue because they do not have parts to fix the issue. The vehicle seems to struggle moving forward and when its switching gears. It is still running but I feel like something is off. I have two small children with me and we are in this car all the time. I do not feel safe driving it anymore. What can I do about this?

The contact called on behalf of her daughter who owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving on a back road at 55 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact’s daughter pulled over and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact stated that a bystander pulled over and assisted with towing the vehicle to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that failure might be related to the recall; however, parts to repair the vehicle was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
NHTSA #11671699
the coolant control valve failed, and now its been in the dealership for over a month. I have been reading online that this is not an isolated issue, and many people experience months of wait time getting the part because its apparently nationally backordered because of this problem.
NHTSA #11674616
We were traveling eastbound on I 70 around 75mph. We received no prior indication that there was a problem. The display read engine oil hot, transmission shifted to neutral, and the entire vehicle shut down. We lost propulsion and were left coasting on a major highway with no power.
NHTSA #11663861
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle into the dealer for regular service, the dealer found that the engine oil level was extremely low, resulting in damages to the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was informed that the piston O-rings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,000.
NHTSA #11657499
While driving without any warning the screen said press start. The vehicle shifted to neutral and lost all power while driving down a very busy road on the top of a hill going 55 mph. Once stopped we tried to turn the vehicle back on, vehicle would power on but wouldn’t start just click and screens flash
NHTSA #11657046
While driving on the freeway at about 70mph, the lights on the dash lit up and the message "Push Button to Start" showed up. At that point the vehicle started decreasing in speed. When the accelerator was depressed, nothing happened. Luckily the freeway was not crowded and the vehicle was able to coast the side of the road where it came to a stop. Pushing the start button did nothing except bring up the dash information. Engine would not start or even try to start. AAA was called and the car was towed to a dealership. The dealer has since determined that the engine is locked up. The oil had metal in it and an engine replacement will be needed. They have put in an order for a new engine. There were no warning lights or CELs of any kind. The engine just stopped working without any warning. The 6.2l engine on the GM line of SUVs and trucks seems to be known for doing this. If this were a busy time of day or there was more traffic it may not have been so easy to pull to the side of the road. It is only a matter of time before these engine issues result in an injury or worse, a fatality. The solution to replace a faulty engine with another engine that has not been redesigned or fixed is an unsafe and risky solution.

Recently, while driving my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL Ultimate (with only 19,457 miles) on the expressway, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and steering at high speed—without any warning lights, noises, or alerts. One moment everything was normal, the next I was gliding in silence, completely powerless in a 6,000 lb vehicle surrounded by fast-moving traffic. I was nearly sideswiped multiple times as I tried desperately to avoid a potentially deadly accident. This failure wasn’t just mechanical—it was terrifying. And it could have cost me my life. What happened next only made things worse. GM Roadside Assistance left me stranded on the side of the road for nearly 4 hours. Multiple tow trucks were sent, but none had the right equipment because the vehicle could not be put into neutral due to the engine failure. I was left vulnerable, frustrated, and utterly unsupported while GM fumbled through their response.

Driving on highway with my [XXX] daughter in the car, screen all of a sudden flashed “press start” on the dashboard and the car died in highway at the off ramp exit. Had to call state police because we were blocking ramp and almost got hit multiple times. Could not get car to restart, state police towed off highway for $200 and AAA towed to dealer. Took over a week for dealer to claim GM owned up to engine failure. No rental car provided. Sold for a $37,000 loss a year and a half after purchase with only 27,000 mile on the vehicle. My daughter and I were coming and got off of the [XXX] on the [XXX] exit ramp to go home. When we were pulling up the vehicle suddenly showed the check engine light and the vehicle turned off. It would not go into neutral, it would not restart. I am being told there is no active recall on it; however, in researching, it appears that I am one of many cases of this exact scenario. Being stuck on a busy exit ramp is not safe and had this have happened in the road construction on [XXX] , this could have been a much different scenario even fatal. This vehicle is a 2023 with 40,355 miles on it. The Denali is currently at the dealership it was towed to, and I am waiting on the diagnostic. During a cross country road trip on [XXX] we experienced the dreaded 6.2 gm engine failure. As I was driving I lost all power going up a steep grade in the fast lane of a 4 lane interstate. There was no room to pull over to the left side so I had to very quickly cross 4 lanes of traffic without any power. I was able to get the yukon off the interstate as safely as possible. Once I placed the vehicle in park it shut off completely. I tried to restart it several times. Finally got a message on the dash saying engine oil cooler was hot or oil was overheated. Called gmc and got a tow to nearest dealership. I rented a vehicle on my own dime and drove that back to north dakota where we live. We are still in the process of getting some of our expenses reimbursed. I called an Uber to pick my wife and 3 daughters up to get them to a near by hotel. My son snd I stayed with the vehicle on the side of the road till the tow truck arrived. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While on the expressway driving at highway speed the engine started backfiring and many codes were displayed on dashboard including “ rear drive disabled” “ service ECU” and many others. Pulled over and Had GMC Yukon towed to dealer. I’ve seen many complaints of the same thing and found this recall on your site GENERAL MOTORS DCS6866 URGENT - DISTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY Date: April 24, 2024 Subject: N232413430 - Customer Satisfaction Program The dealer said they would fix broken valves and I would have to pay for the new computer that’s not under warranty.

Vehicle "Low Oil Warning" light appeared at approximately 3000 miles after an oil change. Checked the oil and it was nearly 3 quarts low. Without any visible leaks or loss of oil, I called local GMC service department and had them inspect. They found that 4 pistons and other components needed replaced due to failure. There was no signs or symptoms other than the warning light. The car has been in the shop for 3 weeks. I currently do not have my vehicle, but I was going to use this vehicle for a long road trip and I'm sure this would have been a catastrophic loss, and possibly a safety issue for my family traveling 1k miles at highway speeds.
NHTSA #11651975
Engine was making rattle noises and oil low message appeared. Brought to dealer who changed oil and said they couldn’t detect noises. I asked for a road test and while driving the tech noticed it, then the car died and shifted into neutral without warning.

Vehicle is on its second engine. Shut down unexpectedly in middle of the road, with my three young children inside.
NHTSA #11645440
Engine failed during trip on interstate without warning after 23k miles. Car went into neutral and we were without power. We coasted to side of road and had to be towed. Dealership has ordered new engine which will be covered under warranty. There were no warning lights before, during or after the incident — no check engine light. The only indicator is that car started making a rattling noise from the engine a few seconds before we lost power.
NHTSA #11645418
Engine stopped and vehicle went into neutral. Family of 5 in the vehicle on a busy highway. Once pulled over safely from the highway and shut off ignition, the vehicle stayed in park and would not shift to neutral, the engine would not restart. Vehicle had to be towed into the GMC dealer. No warnings, messages or symptoms prior to the failure. The vehicle was just at the dealer for routine maintenance 4 days prior. Dealership found that the engine had seized.
NHTSA #11648074
Driving at highway speeds at night when engine sputtered, vehicle shifted itself into neutral and shut engine down. Slight difficulty steering for 1/4 of a mile with traffic continuing to pass at full highway speeds but was able to coast to a side road. No warnings of failure or check engine lights prior to event. Had just stopped for gas continued on trip and cruising about 77mph and hear a few noises as if vehicle ran our of gas and dash lit up letting me know it was shutting down, then shifted to neutral. Now dealing with GM travel interruption team and being told that it is engine failure due to faulty lifter/rod/bearing issue with no timeline as to when an engine replacement will be available. It has been inspected and confirmed by GMC service department in San Angelo TX

2023 Yukon XL AT4 with 6.2L engine. [XXX] started to hear rattling noise coming from the engine area. I took the vehicle to a GMC dealer in Houston TX. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective transmission plate? Said they would have to order the part. Part arrived and while at the dealer they decided to inspect the oil pan. In the oil pan they found metal shavings. It was reported to me yesterday [XXX] that the engine would need to be replaced. This vehicle has roughly 17,000 miles and it’s been just over 1 1/2 years since purchased brand new by me. No confirmation of when a new motor will be available for replacement. Was told it could be months. Was also told that the vehicle is unsafe to drive since the engine could lock up at any time based on their findings. While driving on the interstate at 75mph the vehicle shutdown and would not allow a restart. I had to coast over to the emergency lane with no engine power. Once stopped the vehicle would not start. After having the vehicle hauled to the dealership I was informed that the engine had locked-up and a new engine would have to be ordered and replace the engine. The dealership could not provide me with a repair date because they said GMC has lots of problems with this engine and it would be backordered.
NHTSA #11642778
I was driving down the highway at 75 miles per hour and my engine shifted from drive to Neutral on its own, luckily I was able to get off to the side of the road as it would not shift back into drive. I got off the highway and was able to put it in park but it would not shift into any other gear. I turned the vehicle off and it would not power back on. It was completely dead. I had to have it towed and drug up onto truck and back off the truck as it was not shift into Neutral. It has now been at the GM dealership for 16 days. The engine had seized they said and needs a new one. this is a 2023 and only has slightly over 20K miles on it. They have told me there is a national shortage on engines and I am in line to get one but there is no telling on how long that will be. I am out of a car for 2 weeks and who knows how much longer. GM has given me a rental car but a very small SUV that does not fit my family. I have no idea how long it will be nor do they until I get a new engine in my vehicle. I was fortunate I was able to get to the side of the highway and stop safely.

While driving down a two-lane highway, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral. We coasted to a stop and pulled into a driveway, at which point the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the local GM dealership, where we were informed that the engine required replacement.
NHTSA #11644371
The engine completely failed without warning. The vehicle stalled and would not restart. I was unable to put the Yukon in neutral in order to move it out of the way of traffic. As I was in the process of turning I was completely blocking oncoming traffic. When the vehicle was finally towed to the dealership they told me that there was no oil in the engine. I had checked the oil 2 days prior and the dipstick showed full. We had no leaks in the driveway and no low oil indicator came on to warn us. A dealership in Holland Michigan had just looked at the vehicle to take care of some recall updates and reset the oil indicator telling me that we could get it taken care of later as it was only 2000 miles since the previous oil change and the previous oil change company hadn’t reset the percentage indicator properly. In the case of LOW OIL there was no warning whatsoever.

While driving with my cruise control set to 75, my vehicle began losing speed and power for no apparent reason. I was able to fortunately pull over on the shoulder of the road when the engine turned off without pushing the stop button. At this point I put the vehicle in park and tried to restart the vehicle with no luck. It was at this time I contacted my husband and he was able to come load the vehicle on a trailer to tow to our GMC Dealership. This happened on January 28, 2025. There was 60,407 miles on the odometer. The dealership was able to tell us that the motor seized due to a bearing failure. I am glad that I was able to get over to the shoulder of the road and was not in the middle of road construction. This was a scary situation that could have been much worse.
NHTSA #11654278
The engine failure was confirmed by dealer. My wife and I were traveling on I-74 at approximately 72 mph when the truck began to jerk slightly. This continued for about a mile, prompting me to ask if she felt it too. Suddenly, the truck lost power while we were driving on a two-lane interstate, putting our safety at risk. Fortunately, we were close enough to an exit and managed to coast to a nearby restaurant. Thankfully, it was not during peak business hours, and no vehicles were directly behind us at the time. Given the heavy semi-truck traffic on this stretch of interstate, the situation could have been significantly more dangerous.

On [XXX] I was driving about 75mph on the freeway and suddenly the vehicle gear switched from drive to neutral. The vehicle dashboard read "vehicle condition not safe for shift" I tried to put the car back in drive by pushing the drive button but the vehicle was stuck in neutral. I pressed on the gas but it was not working since the car was in neutral. Since I could not use the gas to move forward, I could not go up on the ramp and was stuck on the busy freeway between the off ramp and the busy lanes of cars going 70+. The right rear end of my vehicle was in the offramp lane. I started to panic because I had my [XXX] daughter in the car. The steering wheel was completely locked and the rear axel was locked as well. There was no warning before the engine cut off. The electrical was all still working. I called AAA for a tow and 911 for CHP assistance since I was in dangerous spot. Took it to GMC Carlsbad Service, advisor Jason just called me and told me the engine had seized up and will most likely need the engine replaced. On 1/9/25 I had the car oil changed at the GMC service department in Escondido where I purchased the car. The vehicle has an open ticket and GMC is conducting a full investigation. I am told the whole engine will need to be replaced and will take 4 weeks from 1/22/25 to fix. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchased a 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate new in December 2023. It has 25,000 miles on it. Last week my wife was driving on the interstate and the vehicle abruptly shut down leaving her stranded on a narrow shoulder on a bridge. After it was towed to the dealer, the diagnosis was a connecting rod failure requiring an engine replacement. It was in the shop 2 weeks prior because the vehicle shifted into neutral on its own while driving at 60 mph on the highway, but the dealer found nothing wrong
NHTSA #11636995
On [XXX] while on vacation out of state with my family our 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali stalled out on [XXX]. After safely navigating through 5 o'clock traffic just outside of Atlanta, the vehicle would not turn over or even attempt to start back up. We contacted onstar for assistance and was advised to stay with the vehicle while they dispatched a tow truck. After approximately 2 hours we contacted onstar again and was advised a tow truck wouldn't be available until morning. We then were able to obtain a ride with Lyft that totaled over $100 with 5 people and was given a $50 credit. I was forced to use Hilton Honors points to book a hotel. Then after the next morning around 10am I was advised the tow truck was enroute to the car. I then took an Uber to Enterprise where I was able to get a rental vehicle. And made my way to the dealership that our Yukon was towed to. After speaking with the service advisor I was told they wouldn't even have a diagnosis for a couple weeks. So we proceeded to head home (with the rental breaking down and several other issues we had to overcome). After we were able to get another rental vehicle, we made it home around 2am. We returned this rental vehicle as it was not suitable for our family, and contacted GM in hopes to get a rental vehicle while our $120k vehicle is sitting in the parking lot of a dealership 8 hours from our home. Only to be told they'd allow $44/day for a rental and we would need to rent it initially and they would reimburse us after we submitted our receipts. Unfortunately $44/day does not get us anything that can accommodate our family and finances are not allowing for this at this time. So we are managing with 1 car. On 1/9, we received a call from the dealership stating our engine was locked up, non repairable and they were waiting for guidance from GM. Then on 1/23 I was then advised by my GM rep that she was transferring the case to someone else and they would advise when the new engine has shipped. Engine failure - Yes, vehicle at dealer Engine failed on a busy road during rush hour, family in vehicle. Dealer confirmed engine needs replacement, lead time unknown. Expected later than Oct 2025. Inspected by certified dealer service dept. Warning lamps prior to failure, roughly .5 miles prior. Limited power.
NHTSA #11639395
The vehicle stopped, and I was unable to manually put it in Neutral. I had it towed to the dealership and was told that my engine was froze up. I have 25,000 miles on my Denali. This is not normal. My truck just "stopped" and would not move on a busy traffic road- why are the vehicles failing at less than 30,000 miles? I still owe quite a bit and now wondering what is going on with GM? I saw the video on Tik Tok about engine failures and this is my truck.

While traveling on vacation, my family and I experienced a catastrophic engine failure in our GMC Yukon Denali, leaving us stranded in a small Texas town. After having the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership, we were informed that the engine is seized and requires a full replacement. Unfortunately, the dealer has no estimated timeline for when GM will be able to provide the necessary replacement engine, leaving us in a difficult and uncertain situation. This has caused significant disruption and hardship for my family.

Vehicle started making noise and idling rough 1-2days after receiving it back from oil change. It was absolutely fine and out of nowhere this happens. I’m great with cars and this is my 5th GMC Yukon and I bought this one at 0 mileage so I am very familiar with this car. There is absolutely no explainable reason my car is doing this I had it inspected and the dealer told me this has been happening lately to a lot of the gmc Yukons and I would need major engine repair for a brand new car!!! Over 20k in repairs and parts. I have 6 children and we have had to abandon the vehicle on Christmas Day to drive our old 2019 GMC Yukon which I think is starting to sound a lot like the 2023 under the hood! It’s roughly idling to. I’m afraid we might be taking the bus if I don’t pay 20k. I looked to see if there were recalls but found none. there is no way engine failure should just pop up after we spent tons of money keeping these cars in perfect shape and only being serviced at the dealership. This should be investigated and repair records pulled to find people who are not aware

As we were driving down a main road and taking off from a stop light on NW Expressway we had no warning before the car seemed to die and shift itself to N. It said to press the start button, that did nothing and the car would not power back up besides the lights and dash that were still working. We coasted to a stop in a neighborhood entrance. I'm so thankful I was not on the highway during rush hour traffic. Once stopped, we put it in park and tried to start it. A friend came and tried to jump it and still nothing. The dealership has confirmed it needs a full engine replacement. GM has agreed to help with cost but my car has sat inoperable for over 30 days as the engine is on back order with no ETA. It has a 6.2L engine and I had taken it in for pull consumption tests over the past 2 years. The dealerships were unable to duplicate the problem. Two days prior to the failure I had told my husband it was slow to crank and we needed to have the battery checked. I now believe it was the engine, not the battery. There were no warning lights on and my battery indicter showed to be in the middle (not lacking charge). I am aware of a voluntary customer satisfaction program that GM has issued but they have told me my VIN isn't one of the 5000 affected by this. In visiting with the dealership it appears they will not fully break down my engine until the new one has arrived but they are 90% sure of the cause as they've "seen several of these". This could have been catastrophic to have a car die with warning in traffic.

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a serious and ongoing issue with my vehicle that has placed my safety at risk and resulted in significant inconvenience and financial burden due to General Motors’ failure to honor my warranty in a timely manner. While driving on the highway, my vehicle suddenly began losing power and displayed flashing warning messages indicating that it would not shift into gear or out of gear and that power could be lost. This created an extremely dangerous driving situation and posed a serious safety risk to me and other motorists. I brought the vehicle in for warranty service, but General Motors was unable to honor the warranty repair in a timely manner. As a result, I was without my vehicle for several months while it sat undrivable on the dealership lot. Once the vehicle was finally repaired and returned to me, the exact same transmission-related incident occurred again. Once again, I was left without the vehicle for an additional period of days. This repeat failure has severely shaken my confidence in the reliability and safety of the vehicle. When I picked up the vehicle after the subsequent repair, I was informed by a General Motors technician that the brakes and rotors were most likely pitted and damaged and would need repair or replacement because the vehicle had been sitting undrivable for such an extended period of time. I was explicitly told this damage was expected due to the prolonged inactivity caused by the unresolved warranty issue. It is critical to stress that the vehicle only sat undrivable for such a long period of time as a direct result of General Motors’ inability to honor the warranty in a timely manner. Despite this, I am now being told that the brake and rotor damage is considered a “maintenance issue,” even though a General Motors technician directly advised me that this damage would occur as a consequence of the vehicle sitting for months due to warranty delay

The valve body failed on 6/4/25. This caused the car to have a sudden jerk and then suddenly decelerate while driving with my children in the vehicle. It could have caused an accident if another vehicle had been following behind. The vehicle has been at the local GMC dealership for repair for almost 8 weeks now, and is available for inspection by 3rd party upon request. The same part failure has been found in the 2019-2022 models. There was no warning to this happening to my vehicle, just a sudden jerk and deceleration. After it occurred the check engine light came on.

The engine warning light then came on and I had to coast to the side of the road. I was on the side of the interstate for about 45 minutes and the vehicle had to be towed. The repair shop informed me it was a complete engine failure requiring a new motor and that GM has an extended backorder time due to this being a widespread problem for these model years with the 6.2L gas engine. The engine seized and failed while operating the vehicle with her 3 small children on board and nearly caused a catastrophic accident. As a result, the vehicle was out of service for eight weeks, an unreasonable disruption and an unacceptable failure for a luxury SUV of this caliber. Now, (02/11/2025) at just 20,400 miles, the vehicle’s injectors have failed, further reinforcing that this vehicle is defective, unreliable, and unfit for continued ownership. This vehicle was purchased with the expectation of owning a dependable, high-performance SUV—not one plagued with major mechanical failures at such low mileage. The repeated, severe defects have substantially impaired the vehicle’s use, value, and safety, leaving use without reliable transportation for extended periods. Given these circumstances, it is clear that this vehicle does not meet the quality and durability standards expected from General Motors’ flagship SUV lineup and present SERIOUS risks of catastrophic injuries and/or death.

I’ve inserted the question and their answer: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Lifter valve number six failed causing it to shatter and send pieces of it throughout the engine along with other debris into the cylinders. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Vehicle had loud engine knock, pulsation of power, had to pull off on main highways due to loss of power over 400 miles away from home. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, engine was serviced by GM dealership in Baldwinsville, NY for over $8,500. Will attach copy of bill. Now is doing same thing, again. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? GM as stated above. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Check engine light flashed, traction control light came on.

The panoramic sunroof on my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate XL spontaneously exploded while driving westbound on I-20 on March 13. There was no impact from road debris, no vehicles ahead, no overpass, and no external cause. The failure sounded like an explosion or gunshot. Tempered glass shattered with the sunroof in the closed position, showering the interior with glass fragments. Five occupants were in the vehicle at the time. No injuries occurred, but the sudden explosive noise and shower of glass created an extreme distraction and safety hazard while operating the vehicle at highway speed. The incident could easily have caused a loss of vehicle control on the interstate. The component that failed is the factory-installed panoramic power sunroof glass, standard equipment on the Denali Ultimate trim. The vehicle was taken to Lugoff Chevrolet for inspection. The dealer confirmed the glass failure and submitted a request to GM for warranty or goodwill coverage. GM offered to cover only 10% of the repair cost, characterizing the failure as an out-of-warranty wear issue despite the spontaneous nature of the defect. There were no warning signs, cracks, chips, warning lamps, or any indication of a problem prior to the failure. The sunroof was closed at the time. The vehicle has been dealer-maintained with no modifications to the sunroof or roof structure. This is a known industry-wide defect. NHTSA has previously investigated spontaneous sunroof shattering and documented over 4,000 complaints. GM has acknowledged awareness of this issue in other GM vehicles and previously issued corrective actions for sunroof glass on the Buick Regal and Chevrolet Cruze. Other GMC Yukon owners have filed NHTSA complaints describing identical failures. The failed sunroof glass and vehicle are available for inspection upon request.

A recall notice was issued in April 2025. I have tried to get the recall issue fixed but my dealership has stated they cannot touch it yet as parts are not available. I have been told to continue driving my car and use only the oil as stated on the oil cap. My tab renewal notice has the recall listed, my GMC app shows the recall and NHTSA shows the recall. I have not been told when I can get my potentially faulty engine fixed or even looked at.

While on vacation, 2023 gmc started making a very loud fan noise. Brought to two dealerships and displayed code for coolant flow control valve. We were told we can drive it home but to bring it to our dealership. Trying to drive home was a major safety concern. While on the highway our vehicle would suddenly lose speed and the engine would get quite loud. Causing us to pull over and wait…. With 5 kids. It’s been 6 weeks and no word when this will be fixed. All our summer plans are just being shot due to needing a large vehicle and our dealership said we cannot drive it.

During the operation of my 2023 GMC Yukon XL AT4 on [XXX], carbon monoxide (CO) entered the cabin, exposing my children and me to dangerously high levels of CO and causing confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning. We were driving with the engine running and the heater on for approximately 21 minutes when the exposure occurred. Symptoms began to escalate that day and into the proceeding days, including severe headache, stomachache, pallor, chest pressure, shortness of breath, fatigue, and neurological issues. My children, particularly my [XXX] and [XXX] , experienced the most severe effects— both were very ill especially my [XXX] . Unfortunately, we initially did not believe it was possible for CO to enter the vehicle cabin, which delayed early intervention and appropriate medical care. Blood testing 4 days later confirmed elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels in my [XXX] , the only one tested. During the incident, the battery warning light was the first indication of trouble, but soon after, many additional error messages began flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle then overheated, decelerated, and eventually shut down while driving. We were in the vehicle under 21 minutes. Upon inspection after the incident, my husband noted a severed belt and potential pulley issues. The exact cause of the CO intrusion has not yet been identified. The vehicle is available for inspection and unaltered to preserve evidence. I am writing GMC and requesting further investigation by GMC. This incident reflects a severe safety issue with potentially life-threatening implications for GMC owners. CO exposure can cause significant harm, and delayed identification in this case placed my family at substantial risk. Immediate investigation and corrective action are essential to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Time is critical, as this defect could have catastrophic consequences for other unsuspecting drivers and their families. On January 19, 2026, Recall 25V274 was performed on my vehicle, and this was not disclosed to me when I picked up the vehicle from the dealership, Courtesy Buick GMC in Louisville, KY. I only found out when I got home and read through all the service notes. I contacted the dealer on January 19 after I got home, asking for explanation and have not heard back. The Recall Remedy failed. Since the service, symptoms of hesitation, lack of propulsion and low MPG persisted. As of Feb 1, the vehicle has suffered a transmission failure and is unsafe. The dealer told me verbally everything was fine, and in the service notes from Jan 19, they noted vehicle as 'Operating as Designed and Within Spec' despite performing safety recall work."

On May 23, 2025, I purchased a 2023 GMC Yukon XL VIN: [XXX] from the GMC dealership. At the time of sale, I specifically asked about the active GM engine recall. They assured me the vehicle had been inspected and was unaffected. On October 30, 2025, the engine catastrophically failed on a highway while my family — including my two small children — were in the vehicle. My wife and I were traveling to Denver CO to pick up my son and grandson from the airport. The engine started to make a very exaggerated rattle. We found a dealership near our motel where we took the vehicle to and were told not to drive home that the engine needed to be replaced. We had to arrange our own transportation for both us and the vehicle 8 hrs back to our home in Rapid City, SD where our local dealership replaced the engine. The vehicle had approximately 65,000 miles when this occurred. Fortunately we were in a populated area when this occurred as there is a lot of very sparsely populated area between our home and Denver. This malfunction not only cost me a lot of money but also put my family at risk in unfamiliar areas.

Multiple issues...I bought the vehicle in Oct. 2023 1. BRAND NEW.... First day I brought the vehicle home there was a whining sound coming from the transmission. The reaction carrier assembly had to be replaced along with all other components. The transmission had to be completely removed from the vehicle and repaired. 2. In May of 2024 I had to have the lifters replaced on one side of the motor. 3. Right now it's in the shop with a blown motor. Yes there's only about 43,000 miles on it and the motor is blown and has to be fully replaced.

My engine stopped while I was driving. Unable to accelerate and the car will not start and is dead. Transmission light and DEF service lights came on. Luckily I was able to pull over to safety, barely. It was towed to the GMC dealership and waiting for it to be looked at. There were NO warning lights that came on previous to when this happened. This is a HUGE SAFETY concern for GM and it needs to be a recall because many, many others have reported the same complaints.

I own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali. In Nov. 2023, at about 4,000 miles, the vehicle suffered a complete engine and electrical failure at highway speed while I was traveling with my husband and three small children. It suddenly lost all power in the fast lane, including acceleration and engine function. Steering became extremely heavy, consistent with loss of power steering assist, and the electronics shut down. We had to guide the vehicle across traffic while coasting downhill to the shoulder beyond a guardrail. Traffic had to avoid us, creating a serious safety hazard. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed and required a complete engine replacement under warranty. After that replacement, additional issues followed. There was an HVAC/defrost concern. In June 2025, the vehicle again became inoperable without warning while parked at a store. It would not start despite repeated attempts, including by a dealership representative. A diagnostic scan produced over a page of error codes, but the dealership could not identify a cause and stated the vehicle was safe. In Dec. 2025, the vehicle engine was inspected under a recall and I was told there were no issues. In Feb. 2026, the vehicle lost heat and was found to have no coolant despite regular maintenance and recent inspection. In Mar. 2026, at about 37,700 miles, the vehicle developed a loud clunking noise while driving. I stopped driving and returned it to the dealership, where I was told the engine had failed again and required another full replacement. The vehicle has now had two engine failures and three engines installed in less than three years. There were no warning lights or prior indications before these failures. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe or reliable for transporting my family.

I am reporting a catastrophic engine failure involving my 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, which was subject to a GM-issued recall related to engine failure. On January 10, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., while traveling at highway speed (approximately 65+ mph) on a multi-lane highway, the engine suddenly failed without warning, resulting in a complete loss of power. I was forced to make immediate evasive maneuvers to reach the shoulder while avoiding semi-trucks and other vehicles. The sudden loss of power created an extremely dangerous situation for myself, my passengers, and surrounding traffic. After the engine failure, the vehicle could not be placed into neutral, preventing it from being moved out of traffic if it had stopped in an active lane. This design issue significantly increased the risk of a collision. I was stranded on the roadside for several hours in cold conditions awaiting a tow. The failure was later confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, who diagnosed the engine as failed and replaced the entire engine assembly. The vehicle and replaced components should be available for inspection through the dealership. The manufacturer had previously issued a recall for this vehicle related to engine failure, and I had requested a buyback prior to this incident due to safety concerns. That request was denied unless the vehicle experienced a failure. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The only warning message appeared after the engine failed, indicating an engine overheating or “engine hot” condition, which occurred after power was already lost. This incident represents a serious safety defect that resulted in loss of propulsion at highway speed with no advance warning.
NHTSA #11716511
Following a catastrophic engine failure in my 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, I discovered that the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral once the engine failed. This prevented the vehicle from being moved out of traffic if it had stopped in an active lane. The inability to place the vehicle into neutral after a loss-of-power event creates a serious safety hazard, particularly on high-speed roadways. In the event of a failure occurring in traffic, occupants may be left stranded in a travel lane with no ability to push or reposition the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of a rear-end or multi-vehicle collision. This condition occurred immediately following the engine failure and was not accompanied by any prior warning or instructions to allow safe vehicle repositioning. I am unaware of any manual or mechanical override that would allow the vehicle to be shifted into neutral under these conditions. This design behavior represents a safety defect because it compounds the danger of a propulsion loss by preventing drivers from removing the vehicle from harm’s way.

Details of the Issue: Vehicle Model: 2023 GMC Yukon Problem Description: The battery has drained completely on three separate occasions, leaving the vehicle unable to start and in cold weather areas safety is a concern. This occurs even when all lights and accessories are turned off, and the vehicle is parked for a reasonable period of time. The vehicle has been brought to the shop three times to address this issue. During one of these visits, a module failure was identified and repaired. However, the issue has occurred again since that repair, indicating that either the original repair did not fully resolve the problem or there may be additional underlying causes. Frequency: The issue has occurred three times to date, most recently on [insert date of the most recent incident]. Service History: The vehicle has been in the shop three times for this issue, and a module failure was identified and repaired during one of these visits. Troubleshooting Steps Taken: I have ensured that no lights or accessories are left on when the vehicle is parked. The battery terminals have been inspected for corrosion, and the connections are secure. [Include any other steps you’ve taken, e.g., "The battery was tested and confirmed to be in good condition."] Request for Assistance: Given the recurring nature of this issue and the fact that it has not been fully resolved despite multiple service visits, I would like to request the following: A more in-depth diagnostic to identify any additional root causes, including potential parasitic drains, alternator performance, or software-related issues. Confirmation of whether there are any recalls, technical service bulletins (TSBs), or known issues related to the electrical system or battery for this model. Consideration for extended warranty coverage or goodwill assistance to address this issue, as it appears to be related to a manufacturing defect. Since warranty coverage is up my vehicle cost is going to increase due to repeatable issues.

The onboard accident emergency notification system has failed after 2 years. The SOS and Onstar are not functional. Car has no data communication with the network. Was confirmed by Crenwelge Motors in Kerrville Texas. It is a GMC dealer. This is an ongoing problem with many Yukons made from 2022 to 2024. While driving through rain on a long car trip, the wipers suddenly became completely inoperable. We could not see and were on a highway causing a serious safety issue. We had to drive very carefully off the next exit ramp. Tried turning on and off the car, no luck. Tried toggling the rain sense on the display and finally wipers came back on. About 20 miles down the road the same thing happened. Wipers became inoperable. We had to exit highway 4 times to try to wait and toggle for wipers to come back on. Immediately had it checked my a mechanic at our destination and he could find no cause for the incident. Our best guess is there is some computer glitch that needs to be fixed and I predict there will be a recall. Hopefully not before a disaster.

This has occurred multiple times but while driving in the rain the wipers will stop on the middle of the swipe for a couple seconds and then start moving again. It is terrifying since a few seconds of zero visibility when it is raining with no wipers could cause me to run off the road or run into oncoming traffic.

Multiple times the windshield wipers have randomly stopped working. Other times were on short drives from home and we were able to get home safely but had issues with visibility. Eventually they would come back on and start working again. Yesterday this occurred while we were out of town and driving home on the interstate in traffic and very heavy rain. It was almost impossible to see the road and due to multiple lanes of traffic it was a very dangerous situation. This is an huge safety issue and has now put my families safety in jeopardy on multiple occasions. Other drivers have also reported this issue.
NHTSA #11672294
While in use on several different occasions, the front windshield wipers malfunction. They stop working for hours sometimes even days. This is a hazard especially if you are in the middle of driving and it’s storming. The a few days ago for instance I was driving and all of a sudden they stopped working while I was driving home in the rain, at night. I had to immediately pull onside the road and wait for the rain to stop because I tried everything to get them to start back working. Including observing and trying to make sure it wasn’t the wiper /signal switch. I even went under the hood and checked to see if the fuse had blown or if there was some kind of wiring undone. Still nothing. I have taken it to the dealership and several people complain about the same thing but no remedy has been presented. They just all of a sudden start back to working out of the blue. This is definitely a safety hazard and these wipers or wiper motor should be recalled and fixed immediately in my opinion. Please help. Save some lives before it’s too late. Thanks for helping with this matter.

2023 Yukon Denali XL 6.2l: GM oil change recall performed (October 2025) and GMC dealership noted no issues. Prior to recall oil change, at aprox 5k miles interval (45K total miles), check engine oil light on dash and was over 1 quart low. Next oil change at aprox 50K miles, no check engine light came on, but certified mechanic drained and measure oil level, 1.5 quarts low. Engine often sounds odd at cold start, ticking sound. Now an oil change is $100 more, due to special oil, but not compensated for extra cost. Brake calibers failed. My vehicle’s engine failed for the second time while driving on the road. The first time a few months ago while my wife was driving. The engine failed and brakes failed. Fortunately she was on a back road a coasted to a stop. Car was towed to dealership. They said there was no problem. Received recall letter about a month ago outlining this issue. Yesterday, [XXX], I was driving with my daughter and the car stopped again while driving. I was in traffic and narrowly missed an accident. Gwinnett county police came to the scene and towed the vehicle to the dealership. I am not sure if the female officer made a report. But she requested the tow truck because I was blocking traffic. We often drive on the highway for work commutes. This could have happened and anyone in my family could have been fatally injured. I would like GMC purchase this vehicle back or replace with a safer model comparable or better. The service department called me this morning from Jim Ellis GMC in Buford, Georgia 678-902-8677, 3600 Buford Drive 30519.I was told that there is no recall for my truck. He told me that there is a safety investigation for a recall. I told him I can bring the letter. He decline. I asked for a courtesy vehicle. He said no, he would have to make a report and it would be up to 48 hours. Once it’s reviewed , then I could go to enterprise car rental to pick up a car. Maybe. The first time Rick Hendrick GMC Duluth , Ga 470-822-3779, 3344 Commerce Ave, Duluth, ga had my truck for about 2 weeks. No fix. No courtesy vehicle or rental. Now I’m without my vehicle for unlimited time. The Jim Elis tech, did acknowledge that there is no fix for what is going on. I was driving on a highway with my [XXX] son and 2 dogs when without any warning the vehicle just stopped and completely went dead. I was unable to turn on the hazards so I called 911, the police came within minutes and surrounded the vehicle to keep us from being crashed into. The brakes failed to work, the hazard lights would not work, the doors would not open other than the driver door. The police had to help remove my child and 2 dogs from the vehicle through the driver door. The vehicle could not be put into neutral so the police had to tow the vehicle from the middle of the highway. The result could have been deadly. The vehicle was completely dead with absolutely no function. After the police towed it to the police tow facility it was then towed to the GMC dealership I purchased the vehicle from. 2023 GMC Yukon XL 6.2L V8 experienced progressive engine defects starting in first year. At 7,445 mi (Jan 2023), first dealer visit for engine issues. At 10,315 mi (Apr 2023), Cyl 2 fuel injector failed (internally open), vehicle TOWED to dealer, replaced under warranty. At 14,982 mi (Aug 2023), identical Cyl 7 injector failure (internally open), replaced under warranty. Two identical failures on different cylinders within 15,000 mi indicates systemic defect. By 30,409 mi (Aug 2024), dealer performed engine decarbonization due to carbon buildup from fuel injection issues. Dealer recommended additional decarbs at 38,077 mi and 42,577 mi. At 56,028 mi (Mar 2026), engine suffered catastrophic failure: piston ring failure causing excessive oil consumption and engine destruction, requiring full engine replacement. This matches GM's known 5.3L/6.2L V8 piston ring defect (subject of $150M class action settlement). Defective injectors caused incomplete combustion, carbon buildup on piston rings, ring tension loss, and catastrophic engine failure. Vehicle also has unfixed suspension defect (camber bolt/alignment). Vehicle visited dealer 8+ times. Engine failure poses serious safety risk from sudden power loss at highway speeds. Vehicle available for inspection.

I am formally requesting a complete refund for my vehicle. It has only 6,300 miles, and the remedy provided for the recall does not adequately address the issue. The recall explicitly indicates defects in the engine components (rods/cam shafts) that may lead to a loss of propulsion. Merely inspecting the vehicle and adding thicker oil does not resolve the underlying problem; it only postpones the inevitable expiration of my warranty. Currently, there are no warning lights illuminated, as the vehicle is not driven frequently. The recall raises significant concerns, and GM should be taking more substantial measures than simply applying thicker oil as a solution. This approach feels like a temporary fix rather than a genuine resolution. I have communicated with the dealership, and have been informed there is currently no solution available for this matter. They are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed. I request a more thorough investigation into this issue for an appropriate refund, and I also wish to have this matter documented for future reference.

I am writing to express serious safety concerns regarding our 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali, which has been in our possession for less than two years and has only 24,000 miles. On multiple occasions, while driving at high speeds on the freeway with our four young children, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. This occurred approximately four times on March 9, 2025, when we contacted OnStar for assistance. Despite their response indicating no alerts on their end, we were advised to reach out again if the issue persisted. Unfortunately, the problem did occur again on March 16th, which prompted us to contact OnStar and have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership for further evaluation. The service department has since informed us that the motor requires replacement. Upon conducting additional research, it seems this may be a known issue with many vehicles manufactured by GM around the same time. We are deeply concerned by this safety hazard, especially given that the malfunction could have led to a life-threatening accident. While we are grateful that we were fortunate enough to avoid any serious consequences, we believe a solution beyond standard repairs is necessary to restore our confidence in the safety of this vehicle. Our family’s well-being and trust in the reliability of our vehicle are of the utmost importance.

POST-RECALL 25V274 ( & EA25007, EA25001) EXHAUST INTRUSION WITH CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING HAZARD Following the complete engine replacement under GM recall N252494000, my vehicle has developed a severe and persistent exhaust intrusion that allows toxic exhaust fumes, including carbon monoxide (CO), to enter the passenger cabin. CO levels have measured a peak of 83 PPM and consistent reading between 20-37 over multiple tests. PATTERN OF POST-RECALL EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILURES Vehicle has been in for service 6 times, over 100 days, as part of the engine replacement plus (metal found in the oil pan). Since recall, the vehicle has had an exhaust smell and noise rattle issue with the following exhaust system components deemed failed and been replaced: 1. Radiator cap (leaking onto exhaust) 2. Exhaust muffler (replaced TWICE - June 2025 and August 2025) 3. Exhaust clamps (leaking) 4. Left exhaust manifold (warped) Critical Finding: Despite replacement of virtually the entire exhaust system, the defect persists. This suggests a fundamental design or installation defect related to the engine replacement procedure, NOT isolated component failures. Documented Carbon Monoxide Levels: Between January 30 and February 3, 2026, I conducted 15+ tests using a professional-grade Klein Tools ET180 Carbon Monoxide Meter. Results: • Peak reading: 83 PPM • Multiple readings: 40-72 PPM sustained for 6+ minutes directly at my [XXX] daughter's car seat position • Testing method: Vehicle started via remote start, CO meter placed in cabin, readings recorded over 10-15 minute periods Health Impacts to Family: • Wife and [XXX] daughter consistently experience dizziness, headaches, and nausea when riding in vehicle • Daughter now refuses to ride in vehicle because it makes her feel sick • Symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning Independent service station verification on January 30th confirmed "vehicle is dangerous to operate with children inside and needs immediate service." Good afternoon, My 2023 GMC Yukon XL AT4 with the 6.2L L87 engine (approx. 61,000 miles) suffered a sudden and complete engine failure at highway speed while I was driving between Canton, OH, and Columbus, OH, on the expressway, returning to my home in Cincinnati. There was no warning before the engine lost all power and propulsion. I was traveling in the left lane of the interstate in moderately heavy traffic. When the engine shut down, I only had steering and braking available to me. In addition to losing all propulsion, I also lost all electronics, and there was no shoulder. The complete dashboard shut down. The only reason there was not a collision was that the traffic around me could see what was happening and slowed down themselves. I coasted on through the onramp and found a shoulder where I had three lanes of traffic on my left and two lanes on my right. Less than two months before this incident, the vehicle had been inspected and serviced by an authorized GM dealer, and no engine issues were identified. I was given no indication that the engine was at elevated risk of failure. After the breakdown, GM and the dealer determined that the failure falls under GM Safety Recall N252494002 / NHTSA Campaign 25V274000, which involves internal engine defects in the 6.2L L87 that can cause a loss of propulsion in certain GM trucks and full‑size SUVs widely used as family vehicles. GM is replacing the engine, extending the warranty, and providing a loaner, but this does not change the fact that my family was exposed to a serious safety risk, nor does it address the possibility that other owners may experience sudden loss of propulsion even after their engines “pass” dealer inspection. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware that a recalled 6.2L L87 engine, inspected shortly beforehand, still failed without warning at highway speed in a primary family‑hauler vehicle, creating a dangerous situation. While driving at approximately 30 mph in moderate traffic on the interstate during a return leg of a 370-mile trip, my vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral and became unresponsive. The dashboard displayed the warning message: "condition not correct for shift," and despite repeated attempts to restart the engine, the vehicle would not engage. Although the electrical system remained active, I had no propulsion. Critically, the vehicle became immobilized in a **very dangerous curve on the interstate**, presenting an extreme safety risk to myself and others. The car could not be manually shifted into neutral for towing, prompting Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to declare the location unsafe. I was stranded there for over three hours, after dark, in a vulnerable and exposed position. During the forced tow process, two rear tires were destroyed and the two front tires sustained major damage. In the days leading up to this incident, the vehicle had also shown signs of malfunction, such as delayed acceleration from a stop and occasional lurching forward — symptoms consistent with the defect described in the recall.

Speed control became stuck and I had to hit my breaks to stop acceleration. Vehicle stopped shifting while driving down the road periodically. Warning collision lights and traction control lights randomly come on with nothing in front of vehicle. Yesterday vehicle would not start or even unlock. When I did get the vehicle to start by manually unlocking it and trying over and over it would not go forward or backward although the engine did rev up. All warning lights were on including traction control and check engine. It did randomly start moving but the “service steering column” light and check engine light are still on . The car periodically revs up while going down a hill when it needs to downshift instead. It has completely shut off driving down the road through town and stopped. I had to hurry and turn it back on as there were cars behind me. It’s a 2023 and I don’t feel safe driving it with my kids.

At 9,900 miles my safety camera system failed which disabled the cruise control and all safety features that used the camera. Car was out of service for nearly two weeks and subsequently fixed by the dealer under warranty at no charge. At 11,300 miles I was driving on an interstate highway in the left lane at rush hour, without warning the car stopped accelerating the car shifted into neutral and totally lost power. It was a very dangerous situation with me in the left lane in heavy traffic. I am a skillful driver and thankfully I was able to make it off the travel lanes on the highway. The temperature was 18 degrees at the time and I had to wait outside for a tow truck. The engine seized without warning or noise and this presents a severe danger to the driver of the vehicle and other vehicles on the highway. There was a substantial possibility that other vehicles could not avoid me as I was exiting the travel lanes. There was also a substantial possibility that the vehicle would simply be in the travel lane stopped on a divided highway.
Allegedly reported: 1 injury (as reported to NHTSA). NHTSA #11640946
We were driving uphill on the highway, about 60 mph when the engine appeared to loose some power for about 10 seconds even though the engine was reving higher, and the ln the engine cut out. We coasted to a stop and then the electrical system was cutting out. I tried to restart the engine but it would not turn over at all, and the car’s electrical was intermittent. There was no warning or error lights before or during the engine failure. Photos provided are the messages on the instrument cluster when attempting to restart the engine. Vehicle was towed to the local GMC dealership, and they are replacing the engine under warranty. No eta on the engine replacement at this time.

The 2023 GMC Yukon had a complete loss of power and engine while driving 65 mph on a highway. The vehicle was unable to restart or be placed into neutral. No previous issues and no indications of failures. No fault codes or lights indicating any issues. Dealership informed me that the engine stopped working and gave an estimate of greater than 4 months for any replacement or repair.

The onstar module of my 2023 GMC Yukon has failed. This is a wide spread issue with recent model GMC's. There are thousands of reports of the same thing happenings. When an onstar module fails, the vehicle loses its safety features. No lane departure, no collision detection or pre-collision braking, no critical system checks. Even the gas and mileage components stop working correctly.

Catastrophic brake system failure. When leaving my home in Baltimore County, MD, at approx. 10:00am on February 3rd, my vehicle started up normally. As I descended down a hill in our neighborhood the brake system failed and the vehicle would not stop. By standing on the brake pedal I slowed enough to put the vehicle in park as I entered an intersection with the main road. I have since learned this is the 3rd GMC Yukon (years 2023-2024) that has had the same brake failure in 24 hours in our community.

1.The driver side mirror tilts up or down every time the vehicle is started requiring readjustment before driving. My wife was almost hit by oncoming traffic when she did not remember to readjust the mirror before merging with traffic. 2. The driver seat bolster inflates every time the vehicle is started. The vehicle cannot be driven without deflating the bolster. These have been reported to the dealer 3 months ago with no resolution from them or GMC.

Onstar connectivity module failed after dealer updates. The onstar module controls super cruise hands free driving. Module can fail during use causing accident. Vehicle did not display any warning on display screen. Vehicle is available for inspection. GMC dealer confirmed onstar module failure and is waiting on part delivery for replacement. Several searches in online forums confirm this is an issue for thousands of GMC vehicles.

There have been several issues for which I had to take my vehicle to the dealer. I did the engine oil recall. Then 4 months later my engine was destroyed. I’ve had several issues with oil leaks. I had an issue with my running boards a few times. And I’ve had an ongoing issue that the dealer hasn’t been able to fix - a water leak (I believe stemming from the moonroof), water gets into my vehicle, on my floorboard, and behind the dash. I’ve called to record these incidents with the dealer and taken it in several times, but they are never able to duplicate it, but they have witnessed the water leakage after the incidents (which happens during heavy downpours, and isn’t all the time because my vehicle is in the garage when I’m not at work).

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the message "You Have no Brakes - Do Not Drive Over 40 MPH" was displayed. The contact allowed the vehicle to roll to a stop. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The contact parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had not caused an accident because the contact was driving early in the morning and there was less traffic on the road. The contact stated that her husband started the vehicle later in the day, and the warning lights were off. The vehicle was driven to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that several DTCs were retrieved, including a DTC for brake failure; however, the flow chart from the manufacturer instructed to first replace the battery and then reset the codes. The dealer replaced the battery, reset the codes and test-drove the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired and returned to the contact. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and supported the dealer's assessment. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Classic Buick GMC (Classic Elite Buick GMC – Katy) Filed by: [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Phone: [XXX] Email: [XXX] Date: November 23, 2025 Texas Attorney General – Consumer Protection Division RE: SUMMARY COMPLAINT – Vehicle Misrepresentation, Unauthorized Charges, Financing Fraud & Warranty Violations Dear Attorney General, I am filing this complaint against Classic Buick GMC (Classic Elite Buick GMC) located at [XXX] , for multiple violations of Texas consumer-protection laws during the sale and follow-up service of a vehicle I purchased in March 2024. Summary of Violations 1. Misrepresentation of Vehicle Model Year I was sold a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali that the dealership falsely represented as a brand-new 2024 model, including on the key-tag. This violates Texas Occupations Code §2301.351(a) and DTPA §17.46(b)(5), (7), (24). 2. Unauthorized Add-Ons & Hidden Charges The dealership added 8,000 in accessories and 26,000 in warranty products without my consent. This violates DTPA §17.46(b)(12). 3. Financing Fraud I was promised 1% financing, but the dealership charged a significantly higher rate at closing without disclosure. This violates the Truth in Lending Act (TILA). 4. Warranty Refusal & Pre-Existing Damage Although the vehicle had defects and mechanical issues at delivery, the dealership refused to repair them under warranty unless I paid. This violates the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. 5. Failure to Provide Required Documentation The dealership refused to provide complete purchase documents, violating Texas Administrative Code §215.142. 6. Pattern of Evasion I personally visited the dealership three times, yet management refused to correct any misconduct. 7. Unsafe Vehicle Retained at Dealership The Yukon remains at the dealership due to mechanical/electrical defects. I refused to pick it up because the vehicle is unsafe and not as represented. It has been several months since recall on L87 was issued. My truck now has over 44k miles and I’ve contacted the dealer, they note there’s no fix in sight. I’ve been having some issues with engine sluggishness on acceleration at times and I’m concerned this is related to the recall. I’m now stuck with this potentially dangerous vehicle with no fix, and am concerned. I also can’t get a fiar trade in value due to open recall. Overall, I’m stuck with a defective vehicle that GM refuses to address.

I own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL (VIN: [XXX] ) currently under active recall for the L87 6.2L engine. GM has no remedy available and has acknowledged a risk of complete engine failure and loss of propulsion, which could occur without warning. This is the primary vehicle I have for transporting my family of seven, including a toddler. I am significantly upside down on the loan, and the dealership cannot guarantee it is safe to drive. I am requesting that NHTSA escalate the urgency and hold the manufacturer accountable for timely resolution or replacement.” INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My wife was travelling down a two-lane road at 50mph when the engine suddenly shut off affecting steering. She was able to maneuver to the shoulder, but the vehicle would not restart. Could have been much worse. Had it towed to the dealer we purchased it from, and they informed us the engine had seized. There were no warning signs or dash lights indicating there may be an issue.

Vehicle went to GM for recall repairs on 02/24/25 the morning after when I cranked my car it was dead. Jumped the car off then began hearing a "clicking noise" GM advised I replace my serpentine belt as they noticed it needed replacement when doing the recall repairs. 02/26/25 serpentine belt was replaced but car still seemed to have power issues when cranking. 02/27/25 car barely cranked then while driving down the highway I lost all power and power steering to the vehicle. There was no warning, no check engine lights etc. The screen went black then car shut off then the screen said "press start to restart." I was BARELY able to get the vehicle safely off the road with vehicles in front, behind, and in the other lanes. It could have caused a fatal accident. GMC still has my vehicle with NO UPDATE on replacement engine timeline.

Good afternoon. Our rental car we picked up from the Denver International Airport on [XXX] had numerous incidents of emergent braking at highway and non highway speeds which were reported to Sixt ( car rental) and documented on the dates in which they occurred, [XXX] (7-8 occurrences ) and [XXX] (3 occurrences-2 after a car wash). On the day in which the first occurrences happened, the car rental company representative from Sixt, 3way connected me with a mechanic from Annex who advised washing the vehicle to ensure the sensors were clean. I did proceed to wash the vehicle on 1.25.25. This same company, Annex Automotive, then evaluated the vehicle on 1.29.25 after emergency breaking occurrences continued of which [XXX] was the worst. On [XXX] there were no vehicles in front of or behind us nor to the sides of us and the roads were completely clear. It was also dark out. Attached you will find evaluation with validation there is a mechanical concern with the vehicle. On [XXX] the extremely unsafe occurrence of emergent braking occurred with skidding tires and the doors locking and unlocking at the same time occurred. This vehicle was completely unsafe to drive. I, as well as my passengers/family, are very lucky the road conditions were moderate on [XXX] and clear on [XXX], or these emergency Breaking issues could have caused a serious accident. There were a total of five of us in the vehicle when all of these occurred. I am from Minnesota and have a Yukon XL so I am comfortable with this vehicle This was the scariest vehicle experience I have ever encountered. The company did tow the vehicle on 1.29.25.
