Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will disable the engine block heater from being used. When replacement cables become available, a second notice will be mailed and dealers will replace the engine block heater cord, free of charge. The recall began May 31, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S11.
The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.
The transmission can behave erratically: Harsh shifting, jerking or lunging, occasional temporary loss of power, gear slipping, difficulty shifting gears, and unexpected movement while driving. I have already had the vehicle inspected and the transmission serviced, but the behavior continues at random times and is difficult to recreate on demand. This poses a potential safety threat to people in this vehicle and those nearby.
NHTSA #11677225
Unexpected downshift from 10th down to 1st gear then back to 10th.
NHTSA #11676045
At freeway speeds, truck suddenly started shifting into random gears. It was cruising in 10th gear at about 65-70mph, with trailer in tow, driving normally and fine. Truck started shifted randomly, slipping gears, and going out of gear completely causing power loss. Transmission would then attempt to shift back into gear, all on its own. It would go into 5th through 10 all while slipping back out of gear in between. Some of the down shifts were sudden, and caused me to concentrate to keep the truck and trailer in control. After a few minutes of this, smoke appeared out the back, quite a deal of smoke. It wasn't long until the transmission temperature guage started reading high (but not warning or critical). Then the check engine like came on with "powertrain error". I was able to pull off the freeway, but under duress as it was very busy, and the smoke caused another motorist to pull over and see if I was on fire. It appeared the transmission fluid was "venting" and spraying on the exhaust, and after pulling over it luckily stopped, otherwise I'm sure that oil would have caught fire shortly.

NHTSA #11666673
Ford has a current recall on their 10R80 transmission, but not all of the vehicles that have this transmission and are experiencing these problems are included? Our vehicle that has this 10R80 transmission is experiencing the same symptoms as explained in Ford's recall but our vin number is not included on their recall list. Our safety is put at risk because it is shifting hard and falls into neutral just as Ford explains in their recall. The vehicle has not been inspected yet because I have been waiting for Ford to notify us of their recall, which they haven't done yet. There has been no warning lamps on concerning this 10R80 transmission issue, but Ford does need to address it on all the vehicles that are experiencing the problems they list in their recall. Please help. Thanks!

My Ford F-150 with 5.0 V8, 10-speed automatic transmission, and only 46k miles has been diagnosed by my Ford Service Dept. (Angela Krause Ford in Alpharetta, GA) with the known 10R80 10-speed transmission issue (completely destroyed transmission and drum) and I now must receive a new one. This issue started around 43k miles, but I had no idea of the transmission design flaw that exists. While driving this Memorial Day Weekend (2025) from Atlanta to VA with my wife and twin girls, we were nearly rear ended by a tractor trailer because the transmission would not let me speed up for several seconds. It wasn’t able to select a gear. When it finally did, the tractor trailer was up to my rear bumper. This was extremely scary and could have been life threatening. There must be a recall issued for this flawed Ford transmission that is in F-150s, Explorers, etc. built before 2022. For owners of Fords that are out of warranty and are expected to pay for this repair is unacceptable. This will financially ruin many people and worse, will lead to a death or more at some point. I beg you to research and do something about this. Thank you.
NHTSA #11668818
Transmission suddenly failed at highway speeds with no warning forcing an emergency stop on freeway. The vehicle is 6 years old and has only 62,000 miles. The vehicle has received all recommended maintenance which was performed by the Ford Dealer. The vehicle had just received the full 60,000 mile service which includes scheduled service of the transmission. The Failed transmission was deemed a complete loss by the dealer .
NHTSA #11662465
The transmission is slipping, skipping gears, and shifting hard. I have a quote for more than 8K dollars to replace it, even though the vehicle only has 65,000 miles. I live in a very small town, and I personally know more than 10 people who are having the same problem or have already had their transmission replaced.
NHTSA #11661440
Vehicle would stall in between gears. Almost got hit in side. The transmission has shifted rough and hard shift. I took to dealer and the computer was reset at 55,000 miles. I just had to replace transmission at 77,000 miles. The repair cost was $8,059.00 before taxes. I was told 4th and 8th gear the cluthes were out. This seems to be a known problem because the replacement transmission has a different valve body.
NHTSA #11663187
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH with the cruise control activated, the transmission downshifted to 4th gear, and there was smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and became aware that transmission fluid was leaking on the road. The contact waited before continuing to drive to the residence. After approximately one hour, the contact restarted the vehicle and there was no more transmission fluid leaking. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that there was no recall on the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
NHTSA #11660314
I am submitting this report regarding a serious safety concern involving the 10R80 automatic transmission in my 2019 Ford F-150. The vehicle experienced a failure of the transmission system, specifically related to a faulty CDF (Clutch Drum F) component, which I believe led to internal fluid loss without visible external leaks, ultimately causing complete transmission failure as supported in TSB 22-2428. The automatic transmission system, specifically the CDF clutch drum assembly, failed. This internal component caused loss of hydraulic pressure and transmission fluid without any external leaks observed. And which I have documentation from a professional automechanic stating there were no signs of the leak on May 5th 2025, as I brought my truck in for routine oil change and tire rotation.. The vehicle is currently sitting up crossroads ford in Sanford and available for inspection upon request. The failure occurred while driving at moderate speed at about 77,000 miles. The truck exhibited delayed engagement, erratic shifting, and eventually became unable to shift properly. This created a significant safety risk as the vehicle hesitated while accelerating from stops, increasing the potential for collisions, especially at intersections or while merging into traffic. Ford has yet to take responsibility for this issue. Regardless of the evidence and current TSB 22-2428. There were absolutely no visible signs of a transmission fluid leak nor warning lamps or lights to let me know. The dealership is trying to say the the transmission failure is due to the low transmission fluid which my warranty would not cover the replacement, however, in my case it was the opposite. The low transmission fluid was a result of the bad CDF drum. Which then fall under warranty. I am currently, presenting my evidence to ford regarding this issue.
NHTSA #11663395
The transmission is unpredictable and shifts into 1st gear at highway speeds, does not shift, hard shifts and causes loss of control. It is not safely drivable.
NHTSA #11660644
10 speed Transmission began erratically shifting not sure the cause but the vehicle went from 10th-1st- 10th losing speed and also shaking the whole truck. This happened multiple times and I am told is a common problem specifically with the 10 speed transmission. This was incredibly unsafe on a highway
NHTSA #11659104
Driveability Issue - Ford 10R80 10 speed transmission. Turning into traffic (45MPH speed limit) from parking lot, in Drive gear, transmission disengaged, cause motor to rev. Released accelerator pedal, and had to wait for transmission to reengage drive gear. Transmission provides hard upshifts/downshifts. Local dealer technician test drove the vehicle and confirmed complaint. Technician inspected the issue, found no codes indicating an issue, but found that there is a hydraulic circuit leakage and the test of this circuit failed . Vehicle has approximately 57,000 miles on it. Dealers recommended fix is to purchase a new transmission. This issue came close to causing vehicle to be involved in a rear end collision. This should be a manufacturers recall.
NHTSA #11659497
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 5 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to 1st gear, prompting the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the adaptive drive system, resulting in damage to the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.
NHTSA #11658564
Several times the automatic transmission has shifted from tenth gear to first gear while going 65mph plus. On numerous occasions the transmission seems to slip out of gear while driving and has done so while in intersections and while merging into traffic. Both of these issues have happened on multiple occasions.
NHTSA #11659515
Our home is situated on a blind curve, and the speed limit is 55 mph. When pulling out onto the road, adequate acceleration is necessary to merge with the traffic flow. The truck initially accelerates as expected, then stops accelerating before suddenly jerking forward. Occasionally, it takes several seconds for the vehicle to accelerate, which creates a hazardous situation when approaching traffic is moving at 55 mph. It has not caused an accident yet but it has caused me to adjust my driving and times to use the truck. I use my wife's car (another Ford) most of the time. This hesitation and strange shifting poses safety risks for all road users. On 5/21/2025, I took the truck to Ford dealer, and on 5/30/2025, was informed that major work was required on the transmission and differential, estimated at $12,383.80. Seeking an alternative assessment due to financial considerations, I consulted a specialist who confirmed that the transmission and pinion bearings needed repair or replacement. The vehicle was returned to dealer on 6/4/2025 for differential repairs, completed on 6/13/2025 at a cost of $4,486.26. The transmission repair was not in the budget. Subsequent research indicated that the 10R80 transmission has a record of mechanical issues, service bulletins, recalls, and related legal matters. It appears likely that the jerky shifting of the transmission contributed to the failure of the pinion bearings. Although the truck is out of warranty and has 64,430 miles, given the safety concerns, I request that Ford review my case for assistance with the remaining transmission repairs, in light of documented issues with the 10R80. I request that Ford evaluate this request in consideration of customer satisfaction, public safety, and corporate responsibility. I know Ford is well aware of the problems as there are 474 other complaints on file. They need to step up and do the right thing before this causes serious injuries.

We bought a 2019 F-150 Limited 4x4 last year and we have experienced in the last couple of months we started to experience the truck to skip the shifting on the 10 gear transmission. it skips the gear 2 to 3 and then at 6 to 7, you can experience the pulling on the transmission. it is starting to feel more and more the jerking of the gears and we were advised by a mechanic we called that these trucks from years 2016 to 2019 all are having the same problems. these truck are requiring for the transmission to be overhauled or replace. costing anywhere between 5,000 to 7,000. we were told that it has nothing to do with reprogramming the transmission, the inside components need to be replaced, it seems like when these transmissions were build by ford, the components/parts, seals, gaskets, bands, etc were not properly done. we have found several people in the internet that have had the same problem but it seems like Ford MOtor Company does not want to take liability for the transmissions being assemble incorrectly. it seems like the truck is loosing RPM's and it runs the risk of one day not to drive. It can loose power in the road which can cause accident. we are not financially to get this replaced or repaired and we still have 3 years topay off this truck. I do not know if there are any other complaints against FOrd MOtor Company regarding this but I need to let you all know.

Ford issued a TSB 22-2428, May 26, 2023 and not a recall for defective transmission. I own a 2019 F150 that with the 10 speed transmission. Over my warranted period the truck was taken to the dealership over 21 times regarding shifting problem. Ford said there is nothing wrong with the transmission that is just how they shift. Now 2025 I told the truck back to dealership with this TSB paper. The tech said yes, this whole transmission needs replaced so they contacted Ford and so did I. Ford told me the truck is out of warranty and I would have to replace the transmission at my expense. After explaining to Ford this truck was taken in under warranty and they failed to address the transmission and told me it was find to come and find out I was lied to like many other that there was a defects in these transmissions. Ford told me, were sorry but we wont pay for the transmission to be replaced even though they put defective 10 speed transmissions in my truck and failed to address it over the 21 time I took it to the dealership under warranty. Ford has lie about this 10 speed transmission over and over to all its customer, and issued a TSB instead of a recall so now they can make the customer pay again to have a defected transmission that shouldn't have been defective from the beginning. Make Ford issues a recall on this matter and stop letting them get away with a simple TSB since Ford knows the owner are out of warranty.

Transmission randomly shifts from 10th gear to 1st. This puts my life and other peoples life’s at risk. This also will destroy the engine and transmission over time
NHTSA #11656632
Transmission clunks when upshifting after going uphill onto level surface, when accelerating after briefly slowing transmission makes noticeable clunking noise. Dealer checked this issue in 2024 but did not find any issues with the transmission. This issue with the transmission has gotten worse since the visit to the dealership to address the complaint. There have never been any warning lights that indicated a problem. There is now a slight hesitation when upshifting which I feel will only get worse over time.
NHTSA #11656107
Transmission has been rebuilt twice since Dec 2024. Received truck back from dealer in recent rebuild and transmission still having issues where rpm’s accelerate but transmission not catching. Need to bring back to dealer for third rebuild. What gives?

Issues with transmission hard clunking and or shifting between certain gears. Dealer has inspected transmission, and they confirmed issue. They reset the PCM on the transmission and has not corrected the problem. They recommend rebuild of transmission. No warning lamps.
NHTSA #11654405
Transmission shifts hard and erratic at times. Error code p076f. Tech came out to our house to reprogram the vehicle was told to drive it for 50 to 80 miles for new program to take effect, and if it continued to act erratic take it to the dealer for service. Upon taking it to the dealer and a general check to verify he vehicle still had issues we were told we had to pay a service tech to investigate the issue further and they were certain that the repairs wouldnt be covered under any recall. They also closed out the recall that we had as repaired when it obviously was not. It seems ford has a major issue with all of the recalls I keep seeing pop up in news articles and they are trying to keep from fixing the issue.so much for safety and integrity of building great American vehicles.

I Have a 2019 ford 150 3.5 eco boost with a 10 speed transmission. I will be driving along with no issues with the vehichle shifting and then all of the sudden it will shift hard, jerk, clunk make noises I have no warning lights or check engine lights, I went to a local parts store and they said that a bad coil pack could cause this issue, however I have brand new coil packs and plugs and the pickup is firing in order. I then had taken it to a local transmission place and they had told me that this transmission should be recalled and possibly needs a software update. Is this something I should pay for if it going to keep happening or should a ford dealership be liable?

Transmission would not engage after stopping at stop sign. Initially accelerated to go thru intersection and truck would not engage any gears and was stuck in the middle of the intersection. Switched gear shift to several gears and drive modes and finally engaged in manual shift. Transmission continued to slip and switch to several gears and skip several gears until arriving at destinations regular drive gear selection. Did not see any issues under the vehicle after parking and fluids appear to be clean and filled up to normal levels. Made appointment immediately for service.

I've been having problems with the power train on the F150 10 speed transmission. There are times that the vehicle loses power and the engine speed drops to nearly zero. This has happened on several occasions while I'm driving into an intersection, or ongoing lane. The unexpected loss of acceleration is extremely dangerous as the oncoming vehicles aren't expecting my vehicle to come to a stop. I believe Ford is aware of this problem, yet nothing is being done to alleviate the issue. It can be an expensive repair. They would have to replace the PCM module and reprogram the vehicles electronics. They have offered up alternative fixes, but none of them seem to work and the alternative fix can be expensive to the consumer. The problem started far in advance before my warranty ran out and yet Ford would deny the problem and I couldn't get any Ford dealer to remedy the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
NHTSA #11652477
I bought pre owned 2019 f150 5.0 with the 10 speed transmission. The truck didn’t even make it home from the dealer. Transmission was leaking fluid and lights came on. Shift would go from 10th to 1st gear.
NHTSA #11650845
The transmission over revs between 3rd and 4th gear. It hesitates then loses power, then slams into the next gear. Once in 10th gear it hesitates when trying to pass other vehicles. When decending hills it quickly jumps to second gear causing the wheels to skip or bounce for a few seconds. When merging onto the highway the hesitation nearly got me rearended. The transmission shop is updating the software and changing the fluid. He said most of these need rebuilt when this happens. Ford told me its a new type of transmission and that I will "get use to it". Repair or replacement is anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000, yet ford keeps selling this defective product. There are no indicator / warning lights.

10R80 Transmission downshift from 4-3 hard. Put in reverse hesitate then hard engagement.
NHTSA #11650619
We have a 2019 Ford F150 with the 10R80 transmission which gave out on the freeway, it was doing a hard knock when shifting and would make a clicking noise at start up. Heading north on I25, the truck sputtered and you could see white smoke coming out the back end. We were towing a 7x10 trailer and it had fluid spewed all over it. It lost power so we had to pull to the side of the freeway and wait to be towed. There was a lot of fluid leaking from under the truck as well. Had it towed to a shop and they were stumped about what it could be. Had it towed to another shop but a transmission shop and they stated it needed a new transmission, we have the go ahead, and after replacing it, we picked it up and headed home. About a half hour later, the new transmission gave out, the key symbol popped up and it shuddered. Had to have it towed back to the transmission shop. They were stumped as to what happened. We were told they had to consult a national transmission shop and that Ford did not want to replace it with another transmission. The transmissions and engines on these 2019 Ford F150s we have as company vehicles are prone to so many issues that are costly. We have three 2019 F150s, one 2023 F150. So far on one of the 2019, we have had to replace a transmission and engine. The other one had the transmission replaced. The third one is on its way out, there is a rattling sound it makes when it is on its way to failing. How are there so many documentations and Ford is not willing to recall them? Or even meet halfway to repairing them when it is obviously a manufacture defect? A Ford problem? Attached are the receipts showing how much money we dumped into this truck. Mind you, we had the engine replaced in this one too :(

My 2019 Ford F150 XLT, began having transmission issues in June of 2024 around the same time the cam phasers failed in the engine (~57K miles). Because the cam phaser failure was the more pressing and unavoidable issue, the dealership focused on the cam phaser repair and ignored my complaints about the transmission shifting hard between 2nd and 4th gear. Within that same month I also had the transmission fluid flushed ~40K miles before recommendation to see if that would resolve the hard and inconsistent shifting issue. It did not, and the dealer stated they could not replicate the problem. Unfortunately the problem became worse, including inconsistent shifting between multiple gears, the transmission "stalling" while it tried to determine which gear to shift to, along with extremely hard "whiplash-like" shifting into gears. These driving conditions resulted in me almost being rear ended several times while trying to enter onto the interstate as cars were accelerating behind me on the on-ramp, while my truck begins a quick deceleration due to missing gears, downshifting and even spinning in a "neutral-like" state while it tries to figure out what gear to shift into. After a couple more visits to the dealership, in which their scanners could not replicate my issues, I was sent on my way to keep driving an unsafe vehicle until either it caused an accident or my transmission completely failed. Fortunately for others, it was the latter situation in which my transmission failed (1st time a warning light appeared) in a hospital parking garage on March 6, 2025, versus me causing an accident. However, all of this could have been avoided if Ford and my local dealership addressed the known issues with the 10R80 10-speed transmission in the 2017-2020 Ford F150 and many other models. The $13K repair bill now that Ford pushed me beyond my powertrain warranty aside, this Ford transmission is EXTREMELY dangerous to the driver and the general public.

Transmission had hard shifts, sticking gears and sudden down shifts. Multiple times the vehicle had gotten stuck in 7th gear. Vehicle had hard shift and delayed shifting while accelerating. On one occasion the vehicle suddenly shifted from 4th gear to 2nd while accelerating. Vehicle is currently in shop due to the danger of driving. These issues have almost caused multiple accidents. We are told we need a new transmission and there are only about 72,000 miles on it.
NHTSA #11650088
During acceleration the transmission will fail to engage during different gear changes. The motor will high rev as it is a failed transmission shift which, it is just that.
NHTSA #11651057
My transmission experienced the same issue that has affected millions of trucks. The transmission started downshifting from 10th to 1st gear while driving. I had it inspected at my local dealer and they informed me that it was a common issue with the clutch drum sleeve. It just cost me $6200.00 dollars to have it fixed. I only had 86,000 miles on the truck. I dont know how thete is not a recall on this, it's dangerous , if I was on the highway this could have caused me to cause and accident either die or get severely injured myself or even other drivers. Please look into this, this issue is beyond ridiculous and dangerous.
NHTSA #11650638
My 2019 F150 has transmission issues that concern me about the safe operation of my vehicle. The transmission it was built with is a 10R80. Transmission frequently slips and clunks into gear. The main areas of concern are 2-3 clunk 3-4 slip and 6-7 slip. The CDF drum has had NUMEROUS issues on MANY vehicles that have the 10R80 transmission. This has been a very common issue with the 10R80. When is the NHTSA going to force Ford to issue a recall ???? This has happened with too many vehicles with a 10r80 transmission to not warrant a recall. I entered 3/04/25 as a date this occurred but it is still ongoing.
NHTSA #11658618
The transmission began having issues shifting/changing gears at the beginning of March. The gears don't engage correctly, the truck doesn't move, then all of a sudden jerks into position. Very dangerous at the start of a light or turn as the car seems to go; then all of a sudden will not shift and is just stuck in the road. Similar danger when on the highway alongside traffic and the transmission does not easily or smoothly shift, making the truck lose momentum. It is most noticeable in the lower gears. The jerking motion of the truck when it finally catches, or shifts, is quite harsh and abrupt for the truck and driver. There is clunking noise when this happens. The warning lights did not come on prior to the issue or during the initial onset of the issue. It did come on as the condition worsened. The problem is noted with other Ford owners with the same 10R80 transmission. The dealer has inspected and witnessed the issue. Suggested full replacement of the transmission with an new CDF, so the issue doesn't recur. Just outside of the 5yr powertrain( but was within the mileage) so they will not cover any of the cost. If we replace the transmission, it is only guaranteed for two years. Attached is the diagnostic report and options to repair. They have the new, improved transmission in stock.
NHTSA #11670344
Transmission failure. Transmission problems began with the having a significant delay in shifting when cold. This resulted in a safety concern when pulling out into traffic and the vehicle would stop moving. As the problem worsened shift points got harder and the truck computer would show that it was shifting from a high gear to first gear at highway speeds. A reputable transmission shop inspected the vehicle and removed the transmission. They confirmed that a sleeve or bushing in the CDF drum had moved and disrupted oil flow to the clutch packs.

The transmission has been slipping on multiple occasions between 3rd and 4th gear, changing gears very harshly and sometimes forcing the vehicle to speed up rapidly and unexpectedly. It has also caused the vehicle to slow down rapidly, trying to find a certain gear then shifting back down to 1st gear randomly while driving in traffic. I barely have 70,000 miles on the truck.

At 101,000 miles, the engine lost power, check engine light came on, and service transmission light came on. This happened while pulling a trailer up a mountain, slowing the truck rapidly, and becoming a hazard to surrounding interstate traffic. The dealer diagnosed the problem as the timing chain, and replaced it and all related components at a cost of $4500. They tell me that this is a problem with that year truck and engine.

Had diagnostic done on truck to find out cam phasers need replacement. There was a recall on this issue but was never informed of. Now I’m looking at a $3528.40 repair which I was informed that this can be a regular repair once issue occurs. Reached out to Ford Corporation and was informed they couldn’t help us in any way.

Cam phasers - this is a known issue on the 3.5L ecoboost motors, yet Ford will not stand behind their product. They have paid for some people to have it repaired, and not others. This is about a $4,000 fix at the dealership, again for an issue they knew about years ago. They tried to claim changing the timing with the ECM module would stop it from happening, but as I discovered this weekend it didn't My vehicles ECM was swapped in 2021 and here I am a few years later with the same issue. Ford needs to be called out as they knowingly pushed out subpar engine products to make more money.

I own a 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost with approximately 117,000 miles. Like many others, I am experiencing the widely reported cold start cam phaser rattle, which grows louder with colder temperatures. This is a known issue addressed by Ford in TSB 19-2365, yet no recall has been issued. I believe this defect poses long-term reliability concerns and could eventually lead to engine damage. Ford should be held responsible for a widespread design flaw affecting thousands of vehicles. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this recurring issue and hold Ford accountable for consumer safety and financial impact.

Vehicle Information: •Make: Ford •Model: F-150 •Year: 2019 •VIN: [XXX] Complaint Summary: Cam Phaser Defect — Safety Risk and Manufacturer Negligence 1. Component/System Failure This complaint involves a mechanical failure of the cam phaser system (part of the variable valve timing system) in the 3.5L EcoBoost engine of the above-referenced vehicle. Specifically, the locking pin within the cam phasers fails to engage properly, resulting in a loud knocking or rattling noise on cold start. This condition is a known defect documented in Ford TSB 19-2208 and subject to Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) 21N03, which extended coverage for cam phaser repair. However, no official safety recall has been issued, despite widespread evidence of failure. The defective parts are still installed in the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. 2. Risk to Safety This defect compromises driver and public safety and constitutes a violation of 49 U.S.C. § 30101 and 49 U.S.C. § 30118, which obligate manufacturers to notify NHTSA and owners when a defect poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. Specifically: •Failure of cam phasers leads to improper valve timing, risking engine hesitation, loss of power, or stall conditions. •These symptoms can occur during acceleration, highway driving, or merging, creating conditions that significantly increase the risk of collision or engine failure while in motion. The defect may also cause internal engine damage over time, raising the risk of mechanical breakdown in traffic. 3.Confirmation of the Problem This issue has been confirmed by a certified Ford dealership and an independent ASE-certified mechanic. Both diagnosed the startup noise as a cam phaser locking failure, consistent with widespread reports from other Ford 3.5L EcoBoost owners. Neither party could provide a fix without significant out-of-pocket cost, despite Ford’s knowledge of the issue and internal bulletins acknowledging the issu INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My 2019 F-150, which has less than 60,000 miles, has a bent valve in the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. Bent valves are a known issue for this model engine that has led to a recall for similar engines. Despite being outside the 5-year warranty period, my vehicle is within the mileage limit that Ford sets as a marker for major issues. After contacting Ford Care to request they cover the cost of this premature failure, I waited for over a month to receive their offer. It was for about $4400 of a $10,000+ cost. The partial coverage offered is not sufficient given the circumstances. It's important for Ford to stand by its products and support customers facing problems due to manufacturing defects. Especially with engine models, like mine, that have had so many issues that the company no longer makes or uses that engine model. A recap: • The service advisor at Rick Ridings (my Ford service dealership in Monticello, IL) acknowledges that a vehicle with such low mileage should not have a bent valve and require such extensive, premature repairs. • I’ve found years of reports from other Ford owners in online forums talking about valve issues with this model engine. Early failures of the 2.7L EcoBoost engines were traced to fractured intake valves that caused significant engine damage. • Ford had a massive recall on EcoBoost 2.7L engines from 2021 to 2022 where the issues were with intake valves made from a material not being up to spec. • Today, Ford no longer uses this engine – a decision I'd guess was driven in part by the engine’s history of failure. • Overall, it’s a clear pattern of defects with the valves in the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. I simply want Ford to stand by the customers that buy their products when there appears to be evidence of a manufacturing defect that caused the issue at hand. All I want is the cost of the repair or replacement covered.

I purchased this truck about a year ago. After two oil changes, the cam phasers began to rattle on startup. It has the 3.5l Ecoboost engine. This is a known problem and there have been tsb's but they come and go during short windows. The cam phasers were finally updated in 2021 but some people have paid thousands in and out of warranty, some multiple times before the issue is fixed. Ford says they are just a noise and do not cause any issues but the resale is directly effected whether private party or trade in (repair typically costs between $4-7500). Mine started making noise at 89,000 miles. Some people go years with the engine rattling and others have check engine lights and engine issues a shirt time after it begins. Ford knows it is a problem and the customer service sometimes will assist with the cost and other times they tell people to file a complaint here to finally get a recall going. The repair is in depth and typically requires the removal of the cab from the frame, making it likely that everything won't be reassembled correctly.

I purchased a 2019 F150 through Imperial Chevy in Mendon, MA in 2022. Technical Service Bulletin 19-2365 had been issued on 05 December 2019 and the dealer did not disclose or address the issue prior to sale. The truck has had regular oil changes every year and then check engine light came on - Code P0630 Camshaft Position Sensor B circuit. Ford service diagnosed scoring in the cylinders and verified that it has the excessive oil consumption issue. Solution is total engine replacement. Ford corporate has so far denied the claim and refused to offer financing for $12,000+ repair. Having approved many other claims for the same issue, they are now requiring Ford service to do a teardown before considering whether to pay for this known issue. This truck currently isn't be driven more than a few miles a day to and from work. We bought this truck to haul a full size two horse trailer which we haven't done as we are afraid to further tax the transmission and/or run the truck out of oil inadvertently since the oil gauge does not give warning that the oil is low - instead the truck throws a P0390 code. Ford must be held responsible for paying for repair. I can provide extensive paperwork if necessary. This is a known issue that Ford is refusing to remedy and any F150 experiencing this issue must be recalled immediately.

My 2019 F150 has issues with both the cam phasers and the transmission. Every time I turn on my truck I get the ford “cold start rattle” because defective parts from the factory that ford has known were defective and later fixed but for some reason my truck was not in the recall. My truck came off the same assembly line and time period of previous CSP or recall programs but my vin was never included. My truck also has 60,000 miles and the 10 speed transmission clunks all the time. I’m not sure if it’s missing shifts or what is breaking but everyone with a f150 around this year knows they are common to have transmission issues. Sometimes my truck doesn’t find the proper gear getting started and will rev high and barely move until it finally gets shift right and gets moving. These 2019 F150 issues are far too common i see them all across the blogs and internet and know a few other owners who have similar issues.

Rough idling result in Cam phaser and timing belt replacement. While driving the vehicle would accelerate and decelerate on its own making it unsafe to drive. Dealer quoted me $6,095 to replace camp phasers (part #HL2Z-6C590-A)
NHTSA #11664214
CAM PHASERS!!!! I have a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine which started having cam phaser issues. On cold starts, the engine makes a loud rattling noise for several seconds, and during idle a ticking noise is heard as well. At times the engine runs roughly and loses power briefly when i’m driving it. I’m very concerned because it happened to me while merging into a highway the truck cut power down and I almost caused an accident for not getting up to speed properly, additionally this could lead to the car shutting off on me, or other dangerous situations on the road, other than the long wear and tear that these bad cam phasers have on the engine. I’ve learned that this issue is known to Ford and has been happening for many years, and was addressed for other owners through Customer Satisfaction Programs like the 21N03 and its various supplements, to my knowledge the last one being held in 2022, but my truck is not covered at this time even though it’s a 2019 and has under 70,000 miles. I believe this issue should be investigated further as it is a safety risk to drivers, passengers, and all other vehicles on the road, and Ford should be held accountable, as this issue has been seen around their 3.5 Ecoboost engines and has yet to be fixed. It seems like it’s an ongoing profitable business for them to keep customers paying out of pocket for this $4,000+ job knowing that it’s an issue that many owners have, which is beyond ridiculous on their end. If it’s possible for you guys to take a look at any of their social media platforms, most of the comments on their posts, even if they have nothing to do with this engine, are complaints about not having a Recall for cam phasers on the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. Ford needs to be held accountable for this issue and give more importance to the safety of their customers instead of their parts/service profits!!!!!!

Bought a 2019 Ford F150 with 32,000 miles. A year later, I noticed a rattling sound coming from engine. Dealership said I had very little oil. No leaks anywhere. Dealership said I had started an oil consumption test at 10,000 miles. I informed Dealership I did not own car at those miles. Went to Dealership I bought vehicle from to inform them that they knowingly sold me a truck with known issues. Using about 1 quart every 1000 miles. Also, after Fords band-aid they put on, seems to be hesitant on acceleration. Dangerous in busy intersections. Ford refuse to fix a known issue with this vehicle.

On [XXX] with an empty vehicle besides I myself the driver, going south bound on [XXX] just north of twin falls Idaho I had cruise control set to 81 MPH when I felt a slow to the vehicle then noticed an uncontrolled/unprompted shift and loss of power indicated on the dash cluster jumping from 10-9-7-10-5-3-8-9 gears then transmission temperature went from 176 degrees to 205 degrees for the remainder of the trip. I proceeded to pull over and let the transmission rest for 45 mins then proceeded with my trip after not seeing any exterior damage or leaks. And it did not shift higher than 9th gear while cruise control was engaged even at lower speeds. The transmission then began to experience harder shifting, and gained a shutter like a clutch pack not engaging properly form 1-3rd gear, and sporadic shifting under light normal driving conditions at random intervals and remains to now have a normal operating temp of 204 degrees under normal driving conditions. Took it to be diagnosed at a ford dealer and it was the CDF drum that lead to a a cascade of issues leading to the transmission needing replacement. The truck has a 10 speed transmission it randomly shift gears and something the truck will not accelerate and jump from 1st to 5 or 4th and when going down the highway goes from 10th gear to 1st gear.i was told by Ford to report this. That is a recall for this issue but my truck was not issued one.

Transmission shifting drags out in some gears and shifts very hard, and slips at times. The truck has died while shifting three time on the highway, once in heavy traffic. The gear indicator has went from 10th gear to 1st gear while slipping on the freeway.

1st safety problem is while accelerating, there is a rough shift in gears despite being an automatic transmission. While attempting to gradually and safely accelerate, vehicle causes an abrupt deceleration where rpms drop and vehicle occupants are thrown forward during the process. Vehicle was brought to Ford Dealership for repair. They noted a known issue with transmission and completed a software restart/update. Vehicle gear shift improved slightly for short period of time but eventually resumed and is noticeably worse in colder months. This problem has been noticed while turning, resulting in near misses with oncoming traffic and is concerning when entering/merging with traffic at highway speeds. There were no dashboard warning light indicators at any point. Battery was in good condition. 2nd concern: Engine fire ups up on start but stalls while idling when shifting out of park as well as in stopped traffic. "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" notification presents on gauge display. This requires multiple attempts to get vehicle restarted with following notification instructions and shutting off/restarting engine. Disengaging auto startstop on startup is inconclusive about remedying the situation. Battery was tested as good but replaced anyway due to age to rule out battery related concerns. Contacted Ford dealership service department and they replied, "they have never heard of it happening." They denied knowledge of any TSB, CSP or recalls/complaints about the issue. However, it appears this issue is well documented on multiple Ford models and various production years. Other than instrument/gauge display of "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" occurring after the fact, there is no warning light indicators. Safety is at risk due to stoppage of traffic and loss of power/ability to accelerate or maneuver vehicle in traffic situations to include clearing intersections with oncoming traffic while turning at low speeds/idling.

Vehicle shuts off randomly when the StopStart feature is disabled/turned off via button in dashboard. The instrument panel displays message on dash saying: “Auto StopStart, Manual Restart, Required” And “Auto StopStart, Shift to P, Then Restart engine” This often happens in the middle of an intersection where I risk being hit by another vehicle. This has happened on multiple occasions. Dealership was unable to recreate problem so unfortunately nothing was repaired. There are many online forums discussing this very same problem.

I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L engine and 10 speed transmission. I have received a warning for low fuel pressure, trouble starting, and the truck has cut off once after turning over. It never fails to crank, however, it may take 5 or so seconds of cranking to get it to start. I have had the check engine light come on one time over the last couple of months of the issues starting; the code it showed was a P00C6. I have not brought the vehicle in for service as it just started a couple months ago when it got hot outside and there was a recent recall that did not include this VIN but matches the issue exactly. The warning states to not drive the vehicle and to get it towed if fuel is not low. The recall states there is not a current fix for the issue and I need my vehicle. This is a daily problem, mostly after the vehicle sits for a couple of hours. I am also having an issue with the cam phaser rattle upon startup and rattling while driving. I have noticed some power reduction and it has progressively gotten worse over time. I am at 135,000 miles currently and have experienced this issue for the last 50,000 miles or so.

I own a 2019 Ford F-150 with only 94,000 miles on it—barely approaching 100,000—and I’m already experiencing significant transmission issues. The vehicle is equipped with the 10R80 transmission, and the way it shifts gears is extremely concerning. It’s unreasonable for such a critical component to show this level of failure so early. At this rate, it feels as though I’d need to replace the transmission every 94,000 miles, which is simply unacceptable and raises serious concerns about long-term reliability.

Rear window ford part number 1542006 - Back window glass has 1" cracks in glass where the glass connects to the body on the left passenger side of the crew cab. Cracks have caused leaks into the cab interior and has caused the modem, mounted behind the rear passenger set on the back wall to stop working as water has infiltrated the electronics. Vehicle was inspected at dealership and their 3rd party glass leak specialists discovered the cracks in the glass connection. I have no idea as to how long this has been going on, estimate a few months as I recently discovered I could not communicate with the vehicle through the Ford Connect App and called Ford Connect, they identified an issue with the modem and when I pulled back the upholstery to see, there was water dripping inside the vehicle. Unknown if cracks will propagate, however they are leaking when it rains. I will be replacing the glass to prevent further leaks from occurring. I have extended warranty through Ford and "glass" is not covered. Reached out to Ford Care and they would not cover. Suggested that I put in a report here so that if later recall or other action, I might be able to get refund for the repair that I am now going to have to pay for to replace the glass and possibly the modem. No other symptoms other than the filaure of the modem that alerted to the issue.

Had oil change 7 times in one year and each time they indicate at the place I get oil changed that it is a quart or more low before 3,000 miles of usage after oil change. My car is suppose to take unleaded gas or higher and it knocks if I use unloaded. Now my catalytic converter is going out and it is not covered under warranty unless it is consequential to other problems. Well there appears to be engine problems that are not being addressed and I have a warranty and have taken it in. But they do not look any deeper into the problem except for computer scan and the warranty people won’t give me any answers on what they will do if there is engine problems.

Driving highway speed (70mph) and vehicle suddenly drops speed to (25mph) and running at 5000rpm and loses all forward drive speed while pressing on the gas pedal. Pulled over and turned off truck and tried to restart it and it took over 15 seconds for the power start to start the engine after pushing the start button, still had no power to accelerate after placing it in drive. My Ford App sends an alert code reading Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power. Towed to dealership to get looked at under purchase warranty agreement. This could have caused a major accident if there would have been more traffic on the highway at the time causing major injuries and/or death, this needs to be investigated what is causing this issue. There are a lot of forums on the internet for 2019-2023 F150 having this same issue reporting/regarding “Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power”, don’t know if anyone else has had it happen while driving at highway speeds or not though haven’t looked through everyone of them.

There was a recall on this involving 2021 and newer models but I believe this problem goes back even further. Because it’s a truck, I have a huge blind spot in the back when reversing and I worry mostly about a potential accident involving property, persons, or even my own children. It’s very unsafe. I want to note that I was in contact with Ford Customer Service but they said that my vehicle wasn’t covered under the recall and that there was nothing they can do for me.

Transmission with no prior issues started to delay shift and have a hard time shifting through gears then would skip gears and get stuck in gears cause the truck to harshly stall and jerk, front collision warning randomly coming on just going down the road

A year ago we took our Truck in because it was knocking, we were told it was dry starting and they had to repair it, it was 5200. A couple weeks ago we’re driving and it started shifting funny and jerking, had no get up and go, we limped to the nearest dealership. Told our transmission went out and it will cost 11k.
