While driving down the road my passenger went to open the sunroof. That involves retracting the shade first. While the shade was retracting I heard a pop and then a crunching noise. The shade then drooped into the back seat area blocking any vision to the rear of the vehicle. It also was quite startling and distracting while driving. Contacted the dealer and set an appointment to get it looked at. Brought the vehicle in for its appointment about a week later. Was notified that a trim moulding ( part # LJ6Z5450036A) that was held up by two sided tape fell off and caused the shade to jam up and break. The moulding had fallen off with the shade closed so there was no way to know it had failed. Was initially quoted $2500 to repair it. The vehicle was less than 60 days out of Ford’s 3 year 36000 mile warranty. I even have a Ford 8 year 75000 mile extended warranty but was told that trim pieces were not covered by warranty. I asked the dealer to contact Ford to ask for assistance in paying for the repair. Ford came back and offered to repair it for $498.38. I authorized that repair and received the vehicle back. Shade is now functional but it appears that there has been no improvement to the moulding to keep it from having a repeat failure. If the moulding had fallen with the shade open it could have possibly struck an occupant and caused issues if driving.

As I was driving, I heard a sliding sound and something bumping every time I braked. It was hard to tell where it was coming from, but It sounded like it was above the sunroof shade. When I stopped, I pushed the open button to open the shade and a large metal piece that goes between the sunroof glass pieces came crashing down. At the same time, the shade unhooked and snapped back into the headliner, making a hole in the liner and an incredibly loud noise. If my pets or a passenger were in the back seat, they definitely would have been hit by the metal piece and possibly the shade. The noise itself could have caused a crash had I been driving. There was no warning about this, and when I called the dealer, they said they hadn't heard of it. However, online, there are significant reports of this metal piece coming off in the Ford Escape, especially in the heat. It is only held on by double sided tape.

The HVAC evaporator condensate drain tube fails to drain externally, leaking water into the cabin. This saturates interior carpets, padding, wiring, and HVAC housing, causing extensive mold growth—a biohazard creating respiratory/infection risks. Severe since November 2025. Linked to Ford TSB 20-2358 (Oct 2020). Insurance declared total loss due to health/safety hazard. Husband has autoimmune muscle disease—mold exposure dangerous. Ford RAV denied twice (latest Feb 20, 2026, case XXX-XXX). This is a known latent design flaw Ford was aware of before my car was built—breaching implied warranty as the vehicle isn’t fit for safe use. Panoramic sun roof shade came loose and dropped down. Ford dealer wants $1400 - 1700 to fix it. I purchased Ford premium extended warranty for $3500. Warranty claim denied because they claim it was made of fabric which is not covered. What a scam. I contacted warranty myself and they informed me they can only cover if it was mechanical or electrical failure. I feel it is mechanical in nature. I've read a lot of complaints about escape sun shade failures. This should be a recall issue due to safety concerns from falling shades.

The Panoramic Sunroof Drip Molding will not stay attached. When it falls, it can rip the sunshade causing it to hang down from the roof and block the drivers rear vision. The glue pads that are provided with the molding does not last long and it causes the molding to rattle with every bump as it starts failing. THE RIPPED SUNSCREEN HAS NOT HAPPENED TO MY CAR, BUT THE MOLDING PIECE DOES KEEP FALLING OFF...NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF ADHESIVE I USE!

Sunroof sunshade snagged on a plastic plate that is attached to the underside of the roof, between the sunroof and the panoramic glass over the back seat. it is a cosmetic element. The plastic plate is held to the roof with pins and double stick adhesive pads. The adhesive on the pads failed causing the plastic plate to drop away from the roof, held by the plastic pins. On closing the sunroof the returning sunshade again engaged with the plastic plate dislodging it. Sunshade retaining clip on the passenger side, completely snapped off from the travel bar when it engaged the poorly attached plastic plate and the sunshade disengaged from the motor track and snapped into the slot at the back of the roof. Sunshade can no longer be engaged. Service rep at the Ford dealer told me it should be covered by warranty, when I showed him the broken parts. On return to the dealer, Ford service claims it is not covered by warranty.

Unsecured falling parts is a danger and a recall should be issued to fix this issue immediately.

The 2022 Ford Escape has an optional "Panoramic Vista View" sunroof with shade. This is a very large/long shade. A bar breaks in the sunroof mechanism that falls down onto the shade. I left the car running, exited the driver seat and walked around to the rear passenger door to activate the switch but the window would not roll up. I received a letter saying that if I charge my battery over 80% it will catch on fire. This is the second battery recall this year saying my car will catch on fire. Vehicle: 2022 Ford Escape VIN: [XXX] Dealer: Westfield Ford, Countryside IL Problem: Rear light repeatedly fails even after multiple repairs; vehicle becomes unsafe and illegal to drive. The rear tail light on my 2022 Ford Escape has failed repeatedly since early Spring 2025. The dealer (Westfield Ford) has attempted repairs 5 times, including replacing bulbs and diagnosing the wiring/computer system. Each repair fails again shortly after. On June 12, 2025, the dealer refused to provide a loaner for a safety repair, forcing me to rent a car at my own expense. On October 9–10, 2025, I left the car again for diagnostics and had to pay for Uber rides because the vehicle could not be legally driven with the light out. The dealership now says the computer module (BCM) is defective, but they still refuse to open a warranty claim, so no repairs have been completed. The vehicle remains unsafe to drive due to loss of exterior rear lighting. This defect makes the vehicle non-compliant with FMVSS lighting standards and creates a serious safety hazard for nighttime or low-visibility driving. I am filing this complaint because the defect is ongoing, Ford and the dealer have failed to resolve it, and the car continues to have a recurring lighting failure that affects road safety. Ford states that if I charge my vehicle it will catch on fire. I paid $8,000 extra to have a plug-in vehicle and I haven't been able to charge it for months. Ford said they would fix this in "Q2 2025" and this has now been pushed to "maybe September 2025". I don't feel safe driving this vehicle, but I have to use it to get my child to daycare each day. I believe it's completely unreasonable to tell me that the vehicle I purchased to plug-in and drive using battery, which has been over 50% of all my driving in the last 3 years, can't be used to drive on the battery. This vehicle is unusable as it was intended to be used, unsafe, and Ford keeps delaying their supposed fix.

Will not shift into park. Code is P068A on reader. When it started not going into park, it started shifting really hard between 1st and 2nd gear. When came to a stop, tried to put the vehicle in park and it automatically put the parking brake on. When the shop looked up recalls, they told me Ford had issued a recall that may be related but put a 70,000 mile or 7 year limit on it. My vehicle meets the year limit but is over the mileage so Ford said they would not cover it.

While I was driving 65 mph I changed lanes and pressed the gas pedal to accelerate when the vehicle suddenly lost power and shifted to neutral. The check engine light came on. I was able to move the vehicle off the road avoiding an accident and turned the vehicle off for a few moments. I then restarted the vehicle and exited the highway at the next exit. First problem I have with my 2022 Ford escape was the purge valve not sealing within the emissions system. Caused the check engine light to come on and struggle to start up after pumping gas. Ford dealer fixed it. Check engine light is still on, now it is saying that an O2 sensor is the cause of my check engine light. All of this is within the power train system of the 2022 Ford escape which is causing the vehicle to read that it cannot pass and will fail an emissions test if it were to undergo one.

Transmission got stuck in 6th gear doing 80 miles per hour on the highway. Was unable to upshift or downshift. Had to switch driving modes for vehicle to begin downshifting. Also experienced getting stuck in certain gears and very rough shifting in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. No warning lights were presebt and according ti the dealer no codes were present on the transmission either. Components that failed included the torque converter, valve body, and clutch. Dealer confirmed that the transmission was having problems and rebuilt it under warranty at 48,000 miles. However I came in a 30,000 miles for recommended service as I was getting rough shifting and requested a flush and was told it was lifetime fluid for the 8 speed transmissions. At 48,000 it got stuck and almost caused accidents hence this report. Ally protect processed the insurance claim for what Ford refused to cover, only a small cost incurred on my part for the rental. On March 31st, 2026, while traveling at approximately 60 mph on a major highway, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure without prior warning. The "Check Engine" and "Powertrain Malfunction" (Wrench) lights illuminated, and the vehicle experienced an immediate and total loss of motive power. This created a high-risk safety situation for myself (luckily my daughter was not with me at the time), I was forced navigate through high-speed traffic to the shoulder with no engine propulsion. Technical Confirmation: The vehicle was towed to Dick Smith Ford (Columbia, SC). A diagnostic scan revealed fault code P032F (Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque). The dealership confirmed the failure was internal and required a total Long Block Engine Assembly replacement in accordance with CSP 23NC06 (Reference RO #259050). Failure of Previous Safety Recall: Crucially, this vehicle had already received the "remedy" for Recall 23S27 / NHTSA Campaign 23V440000 (Engine Fire Risk). Despite Ford's claim that the software update and grill shutter modifications mitigated the risk of catastrophic failure and fire, the engine still suffered a major breach and total failure at highway speeds. This demonstrates that the current recall remedy is insufficient to protect occupants from sudden loss of power or potential fire hazards.

Trusting the manufacturer, M.A continued to drive her car—her essential link to independence. A Nightmare on the Road Two months later, in October 2025, that trust nearly cost M.A her life. While driving in Windsor, Ontario, she saw smoke, then flames erupt from under the hood. In a horrifying instant, the engine compartment burst into fire. Paralyzed by panic—a "brain freeze" moment where she couldn't even unlock her door—she was trapped. Only with the help of bystanders was she pulled to safety, where she watched helplessly as her car and everything she owned—clothes, jewelry, two laptops, an iPad, and three suitcases—were consumed by flames. Physical and Emotional Devastation The fire was extinguished, and the car was towed away, but the damage to M.A’s life was just beginning. The traumatic event triggered a severe relapse of her Multiple Sclerosis, worsening her physical disability. The profound stress and sadness have been overwhelming. She is now without a vehicle, struggling daily with lost mobility and independence. Abandoned by the Company at Fault When M.A contacted Ford for help, seeking accountability for the defect they had already acknowledged, she was met with indifference. Customer service representatives, both by phone and on Facebook, directed her only to her insurance company, washing their hands of responsibility for the catastrophic failure their recall had warned about INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The Incident: While traveling at highway speeds on a public freeway, the engine suffered a catastrophic failure and stalled without warning. This caused an immediate loss of propulsion, power steering, and power braking. I was forced to navigate the vehicle across multiple lanes of high-speed traffic with no engine power, nearly resulting in a fatal collision. Background and Safety Risk: This is the second terminal engine failure this vehicle has suffered in under 60,000 miles. The first engine was replaced by a Ford dealer at approximately 30,000 miles due to a similar failure. The replacement engine has now failed at approximately 53,000 miles. This vehicle is also subject to Safety Recall 25S76 (Fuel Injector/Fire Hazard). Current Status: The defect has been confirmed by a Ford dealership which previously performed a full engine replacement. The manufacturer has not provided a permanent remedy for the current failure or the active fire recall. The vehicle remains a substantial and life-threatening safety risk to the driver and the public. No warning lights or symptoms appeared prior to the sudden engine shut-off at freeway speeds.

I am the owner of a 2022 Ford Escape experiencing a serious issues: My vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall 25V467 / Ford Recall 25S76, concerning the potential for a cracked fuel injector leading to fuel accumulation on top of the engine—a serious fire hazard. According to NHTSA, there is currently no remedy available. This adds another layer of safety concern, particularly considering the compounding risks and Ford’s delay in delivering a fix a pending recall involving potential engine fires, I am deeply concerned about the safety and reliability of my vehicle. I am asking that my concerns be formally investigated and that Ford take appropriate responsibility for repairs, reimbursement (if applicable), or an expanded VIN inclusion under the CSP.

Vehicle has an issue with braking system. When attempting to stop, the brake pedal required much more force to be applied that subsequently increased stopping distance. Safety to operator and/or others is at great risk due to extended stopping distances. The condition has not been confirmed by the dealer service department or independent service center. However, this condition occurred to the owner of the vehicle as well as the vehicle owner's son (that is in the auto industry as an insurance adjuster). The dealer only looked at the condition of the brake pads, calipers, and rotors. The dealer did not look into the hydraulic braking system or brake lines. (NOTE: There is an open recall on many Ford Escapes, however, this particular vehicle identification number is outside the current recall notice. I believe they should investigate and/or expand the recall to add more vehicles due to our discovery) The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative or others. No ODB Codes or warning lights appeared on the dash information screen.

I am writing to formally demand immediate action regarding my 2022 Ford Escape, VIN [XXX] a 0% financing plan and Ford’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Since purchase, the Escape has suffered serious safety defects, including gasoline fumes inside the cabin, burning odors, and repeated performance failures tied to the fuel system. On [XXX] and again on [XXX], the vehicle flamed up while being driven, requiring emergency intervention to extinguish. In August 2025, Ford issued Safety Recall 25S76, admitting that these vehicles may suffer fuel injector cracking, fuel leaks, and under-hood fires while being driven. Ford further admitted that no permanent repair remedy exists. The interim software update provided does not correct the defect. As a retired U.S. Army Combat Medic and Purple Heart recipient, I live with PTSD triggered by vehicle fires and explosions. Fuel/Propulsion System4 complaints

The suspected malfunctioning component is the fuel injector(s), part of the fuel system(gasoline). The vehicle is currently in my possession and is available for inspection upon request. An independent mechanic believes the issue is injector-related and consistent with a known injector defect. The vehicle is subject to a fuel injector recall that wards of fuel accumulation on top of the engine, creating a risk of under-hood fire. In addition the vehicle experiences intermittent stall-on-start and engine shaking/misfiring during startup, which could leave the vehicle inoperable or unreliable, particularly in traffic or emergency situations. Yes. An independent mechanic has evaluated the vehicle and believes the symptoms are consistent with a fuel injector failure or fuel pressure bleed-down. The issue is intermittent and does not always reproduce on demand, which has made consistent replication difficult. The vehicle has not yet been physically inspected by the manufacturer. However, Ford Motor Company has an open case on this vehicle, and the VIN is listed under an injector-related recall/customer satisfaction program. No police or insurance inspections have occurred. No warning lights or messages have appeared. Symptoms include delayed starting, engine shaking/misfiring during startup, and stalling on the first start attempt, followed by normal starting on a second attempt. These symptoms began intermittently and have become more noticeable over time.

Nov 20,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number25SC4 NHTSA Recall Number25V789 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available We purchased our vehicle with the intent of using it for a daily work commute, the range of the battery being perfect for this. We now find that the vehicle is not 100% safe to charge or drive in the manner intended and no remedy has been supplied by Ford, nor is one expected. We were advised by Ford not to charge it at all lest it catch fire. After several months we were told to charge it to only 80% to avoid the possibility of a fire while driving or when parked and charging. After a checkup we initiated with our local Ford mechanics in early 2026, we were told that the car was now safe to charge 100% and the recall could be ignored. We believed this to be the case. However, while having our car valued for a trade in, a dealer told us that the car still had an open recall on the battery which should definitely not be ignored. Ford’s own website says no fix is expected, no parts are available and the fire danger is still present because the issue is battery related, not a software one. Samsung who manufactured the batteries recalled them in February 2025. [XXX] We are no longer able use the car as intended: 80% of charge moving a 440Lb battery leaves short of the 35 miles we expect. Not utilizing the entire range of the battery, has cost us money in the purchase of gas which we should not have incurred. The vehicle is stored in a garage adjacent to our home, and were it to catch fire, we would lose everything. We wish to sell the car, but feel we shouldn't with such a dangerous safety unresolved flaw. Our vehicle has decreased in value by 66% since 2022 which has impacted our trade in value severely. This car is a financial impediment a potential danger to our safety and home and a nightmare to own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Shortly after purchasing my 2022 Ford Escape, I began experiencing hesitation during acceleration, loss of power, RPM fluctuations, loud howling and whining noises, grinding noises, exhaust-related rattling, coolant bubbling, and a strong sulfur/rotten egg odor. The problems were reported repeatedly to the selling dealer and Ford service departments. Despite multiple complaints, I was repeatedly told nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle continued to deteriorate and now struggles to accelerate and produces extremely loud noises during operation. The condition creates a safety concern because the vehicle does not respond normally when accelerating and may not be able to maintain speed safely in traffic. I also discovered an open safety recall involving a potentially cracked fuel injector that could allow fuel or fuel vapor to accumulate on the engine and create a fire risk. The recall remains incomplete because a remedy is not currently available. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership service departments and an independent transmission specialist. The problems have been ongoing since shortly after purchase and continue to worsen.

NHTSA #11743915

A car started jerking erratically. I put it in, drive or reverse. And the light on the transmission selector would just blink on and off and it would not go in gear when it did finally go in gear. It would not shift out of fourth gear. We'll erratic transmission would not shift cars behind me had to hit their brakes. Because my vehicle would not move very dangerous. I took the vehicle in the Ford. They said it needs a transmission. I've got 65000 miles on this vehicle. It's 5000 miles past a warranty. Warning light did come on. My vehicle is now at an independent transmission shop and they say, I need a new transmission. I don't have the money to fix this. And Ford is wrong if we're not correcting it i will have the documents today. We're ford, it would only give me a small $7000 trade in allowance. Because it needed a transmission. I will be receiving the paperwork from Ford and the paperwork from the transmission shop that has my vehicle. Thank you.

I think this is related to NHTSA Recall 24V954. I experience loss of driving power at various times. This started about three months ago. It is intermittent. It used to be once or twice a week. Lately it is happening almost every day. Sometimes it is a minor annoyance, but sometimes it can result in a serious safety issue. When in electric mode, the car will suddenly lose driving power. Other power, such as radio, lights, etc., are not affected. This is most common when the car is stopped, e.g. at a red light, or driving at low speeds, when the car is often in EV mode. For example, if I’m at a red light, when the light turns green I press the accelerator but they car doesn’t respond, no power. Or, if I’m driving at low speed in EV mode the car will suddenly lose power and glide to a stop. The only way to resolve this is to come to a full stop, turn off the car and then turn it on again. The reason I am writing is to reinforce that it can be a serious safety issue. I can give three examples. 1) January 15 I was driving in the right lane on an interstate highway, moving slowly due to congestion. I lost power and glided to a complete stop, in traffic. There was no shoulder. Cars were merging in and out of my lane to avoid me. I had to completely turn off the car and turn it on again. 2) January 22, while stopped at a red light, I pulled into the intersection when the light turned green, only to have the car die in the intersection. 3) January 22, same as example 2, but at a stop sign. The letter from Ford says there is no remedy yet, at least not until Q2 of 2025, but they have not issued instructions to stop driving the vehicle. I believe that this safety issue is serious enough that a stop should be issued. I personally will not drive this vehicle until the repair can be made.

The entire panel and screen goes off and on countless times when driving. Cannot see speed or anything when panel shuts off. Makes it even more dangerous at night. It is also very distracting. The problem has been confirmed by FORD and dealer. They still can’t fix it. They have had our car for almost 2 months with no resolution. It started first with screen powering off and on countless times and then the entire panel. I have been told so many different times things. I have requested documentation and they will not provide me with anything other than vague emails with no answers. I was told several things: wrong part installed by Ford, severe wiring issue, wrong program possibly installed when trying to resolve the issue. The car was even pulling to the right and left but they said that had nothing to do with panel but just a dirty sensor, which I don’t know if I believe or not. They also stated the first issue had nothing to do with the recall even though it sounds and appears very similar. Me not being a mechanic, they can tell me anything. What I have not been told is what the problem is and we do not feel safe taking the car back but Ford is offering us nothing other than empty, vague answers. Any help you can provide would be so helpful and appreciated! Text from phone so please forgive any errors. Thank you!

Slippery Drive Mode was On. EV Mode was On. Was driving slowly up a snowy driveway, the car lost traction and the car became completely inoperable and immobilized, including: - Car could not be turned off or on via Start Stop button - Car could not shift out of Park - Car could not change drive modes - Car could not change out of EV Mode It was completely inoperable and impossible to move out of harm's way or shut down so it just sat there and drained the battery. Fortunately, an auto-shutdown sequence occurred when the battery was low which automatically turned off the car after manual attempts failed. Only after the car auto-shutdown could I start the car again and move it out of park to get out of harm's way. There was no collision or impact. The car never left the asphalt. After it restarted, I could drive the vehicle with seemingly no impairment. It spit out >20 codes, all of which are attached in a DTC report.

April 2024 - While driving to work, I stopped at a stop sign. When I went to turn, the car went into neutral. I had to turn the car off and restart before I could change the gears. I took it to the dealer who stated they could not get the vehicle to replicate what happened and to keep eye on it. November 22, 2024 on my way home as I was exiting off the highway, the vehicle starting lunging then shifted into neutral on its own. I was able to stop and put it back into drive. When I tried to drive, it went back into neutral and started lunging forward. I could not get it back into drive but was able to go in neutral 5 mph and made it home. Once in the driveway, I tried to backup and it would not reverse. I turned off the vehicle and restarted it several times and was able to back up then drove straight to the dealer. They did a diagnostic and said the transmission needed replaced. This should not happen on a 2 year old vehicle. I noticed on your website 9 recalls for 2022 Ford Escapes. The only recall I received was for the doors. I took my vehicle in to have those fixed and those have been on backorder since April. My driver's side has only 1 hinge holding it on. I pray it doesn't fall off while driving.

Power Train,Electrical System,Structure1 complaint

This hasn't caused an accident or stranded me yet, but Ford won't do anything to help me avoid danger in the faulty vehicle they sold. There have been several recalls on my 2022 Ford Escape PHEV over the past year or so, including safety recalls. The number of recalls, requiring me to take the time to deal with scheduling, drop off/pickup the car, and being unable to use the car when it is in the shop for the recall rectifications seems excessive. Worse yet, they have safety related recalls from 2025 that still do not have a fix. I do not feel safe in my car. I went through the company's lemon recall process and they refused to repurchase the vehicle. People should expect a basic level of quality and definitely safety when buying a car. I will never buy another Ford and would never recommend that anyone else do so. This company no longer represents quality and they don't even care to try.

Electrical System,Exterior Lighting,Forward Collision Avoidance1 complaint

My 22 Ford Escape has 620000 miles on it most of them highway miles. The issue I'm having began approx. 5000 miles ago. While in motion my dash lights, radio, and entertainment screen will go completely black for long periods of time and the chime will begin randomly ringing. A message sometimes appears on screen that says system off to continue please start engine but the engine is running the whole time. Sometime the message will appear on my dash saying front camera not available. I've taken it to a Ford Service station and they advised me my PCM software needed updating but the problem still existed and is existing even after the update. I still have a recall active on my vehicle as well regarding the fuel injector issue.

Steering1 complaint

The following message was displayed on the dash "Steering Assist Fault Service Required". Immediately lost power assisted steering and the steering became difficult (manual steering), mostly at lower speeds. Could have resulted in an accident if it happened while making a turn, as I would not have expected to need that much effort to turn. Car is currently at a Ford Dealership for service. The error message has come on several times in the past at start up, but by restarting the car it went away with no loss of function. This last time, it came on while driving.

Electrical System,Seat Belts,Structure1 complaint

The vehicle has experienced repeated electrical failures over an extended period of time despite multiple repair attempts. After the most recent repair, which required the vehicle to be kept for approximately 10 days and included a battery replacement, the same electrical issue returned shortly after the vehicle was returned. The vehicle has previously stalled in traffic, creating a safety concern. In addition, the sunroof collapsed into the passenger compartment while a rear-seat passenger, who was a child, was present. A seat belt malfunction also occurred and required repair. Repairs have been attempted for these issues, but safety-related problems have continued. I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate, especially when transporting a child.

The power window on our 2022 Ford Escape will remain down after being rolled down and cannot be raised. This issue has occurred three separate times. When it happens, the vehicle cannot be secured and is exposed to weather and theft. The failure appears to be intermittent but recurring, indicating a possible design or electrical defect rather than misuse. This creates a safety and security risk, especially if the failure occurs while away from home or during bad weather. This problem has happened multiple times and is not resolved by normal operation of the window switch. Engine problems are occurring as well due to the stated recalls provided by nhtsa.

Towed it to ford where they claim a loose battery terminal was present. No warning at all before this. Upper engine noise too (possibly pulley) 28k miles and trans is shifting hard as well. The trust for the vehicle is gone. I have a video as well of the steering wheel snapping.

Electrical System,Unknown Or Other,Back Over Prevention1 complaint

The rearview backup camera no longer functions at all. Upon putting the car in reverse, I receive a black screen with glitching colors for a few seconds that turns completely black and gives me an error stating rearview camera is unavailable. There has been no damage recently to the vehicle or any other modifications made, or no other known contributing events, it just stopped working on its own. I also received no warning prior to this happening from any systems in the vehicle. This is especially dangerous since I rely upon this camera and alert sensors to safely back up and avoid damage to my vehicle, myself, others, and surrounding objects. I am aware that several Ford models built the same year have an active recall for this exact issue, in addition to the 2023-2024 Escape models. I would highly recommend looking into this issue as it pertains to the 2022 Escape as well.

Service Brakes,Engine1 complaint

I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the safety of my 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), which I believe may have been rushed to market without sufficient development or reliability testing. As Ford’s first iteration of the Escape PHEV, it appears to suffer from multiple critical defects that suggest the technology was not fully ready for consumers. In less than 2.5 years of ownership, I have experienced the following serious safety-related issues: The vehicle is currently under recall for a defective high-voltage battery, and there have been multiple other recalls related to the PHEV technology, raising serious concerns about the reliability and safety of the overall hybrid system. NHTSA Recall Number 24V954. I experienced brake issues within the first 18 months of which have not been fixed and still making odd noises Most alarmingly, the engine failed while I was driving on the highway with under 32,000 miles on the vehicle, causing a sudden and dangerous loss of power. This incident placed me and others at serious risk of harm. While the dealership did repair the engine under warranty, Ford has not offered any meaningful assistance beyond that, nor have they provided alternative transportation or a solution that addresses my ongoing safety concerns. Ford corporate has refused to communicate with me in writing and will only speak by phone, making it extremely difficult to document discussions, obtain clear answers, or hold them accountable for their responses. Due to a lack of support from Ford, I was forced to borrow my mother’s vehicle for two weeks while mine was being serviced, as there were 17 other customers on a waitlist for a loaner vehicle at the dealership. Despite these serious problems, I still don't have a vehicle and I no longer feel safe driving the car, and a financial burden, as I now owe more on the car than it is worth on trade-in. I have not picked up the car due to safety concerns. I believe these issues

Steering,Power Train,Electrical System1 complaint

I own a 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid, which is affected by Recall 24S79 (NHTSA Recall 24V954). This recall involves a high-voltage battery defect that could result in a fire or sudden loss of vehicle control while driving. Ford has confirmed that there is no fix available until at least the second quarter of 2025, leaving affected owners without a solution for well over a year. However, Ford refuses to provide loaner vehicles, rental reimbursement, or any safe alternative for customers forced to continue driving these potentially dangerous vehicles. I have contacted multiple dealerships (Fort Collins Ford and Loveland Ford), and both confirmed that no loaner vehicles are available. Ford’s customer service continues to redirect me back to the dealership without resolution, despite the fact that my dealership has no assistance to offer. While I have not yet experienced a battery fire or loss of vehicle control, the recall documentation explicitly states that these are potential risks. It is only a matter of time before a fire or serious accident occurs due to Ford’s inaction. Ford is placing thousands of affected drivers at risk by failing to provide a fix, alternative transportation, or any safety plan for affected customers. I urge NHTSA to investigate Ford’s lack of action and failure to protect affected vehicle owners. Ford should be required to provide loaner vehicles or rental reimbursement until a remedy is available.

Electrical System,Fuel/Propulsion System1 complaint

Ford issued a recall on my vehicle in January 2025. They state that I cannot charge my car until they fix it, or it could catch on fire. I paid $8,000 extra for a car I can charge, and almost never use my gas engine. I have now not been able to charge my car for 5 months and there is no fix available and Ford has moved the expected fix date from Q2 2025 to Aug/Sep 2025. I also have to pay additional taxes in the state of Vermont for my plug-in, which I can't actually plug-in, and paid $2k for a home charger which is now useless. I have contacted Ford at least 4 times, because I'm concerned with the safety of my vehicle and they refuse to do anything. I have to drive my son to daycare each morning, and I'm concerned the vehicle will catch on fire with us inside of it. The vehicle charges when driving downhill and there are a lot of hills in Vermont, so I'm constantly worried that the battery may charge too much and catch fire. I have spoken with my local dealership and they can't do anything and again, after contacting Ford numerous times, their message is "wait". This vehicle is completely unusable to me, since almost all of my daily driving used the battery and I've had to pay for gas for the last 5 months. Ford doesn't seem to be concerned with my safety, despite admitting that they sold me a vehicle that may catch on fire. I also attempted to trade the car back into the dealership, but they won't take it due to the recall which has no firm date for being addressed. I've going around and around in circles with all levels of Ford but they refuse to do anything. I just want to feel safe with myself and my family in my vehicle, but I do not feel safe and Ford doesn't appear to care.

The dealer reset the automatic braking system to the "LOW" setting from the previous "NORMAL" setting. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.
