Complaints Filed with NHTSA

The following are consumer-reported complaints filed with NHTSA. These are unverified allegations and are not proof that any defect exists.

Steering18 complaints

When driving around curves the electric steering is malfunctioning. Making it unsafe to drive almost like it is sticking then when you correct it, it frees up and over corrects. This has been going on for some time now and keeps getting worse and worse. After a little research it seems a lot of other people are having this problem

NHTSA #11743874

The steering is tight/sticking when I back out of my driveway or drive slowly around turns. It does seem stiff on highway speeds as well. Also my auto stop start check light is on about 2 months after replacing both batteries and I did have the recall somewhat associated with this completed

NHTSA #11738219

We bought our van new in 2019. It has always made a grinding noise when making hard turns. The dealer said it was normal. Flash forward to a few weeks ago when we hit 105k miles. We started noticing more grinding noises and sensations when turning the wheel. Additionally, we noticed a tugging sensation on the wheel when going over 60 mph. It felt like the lane assist was turned on, but it wasn’t. We took our van to our trusted auto repair garage. They did a series of tests which included isolating the sound of clicking and grinding to the electronic steering gear. We were told that this part would cost $5400 to replace. We believe that this part is going bad too early in the life of our van and would like the NHTSA to investigate.

Electrical power steering assistance system. The steering wheel starts becoming difficult to smoothly turn in corners over 30-miles per hour. Steering wheel required excessive force to overcome the resistance caused by the steering system (almost like having a non-power system steering system in turns). No issues on straight roadways. No warning lamps light. Getting worse (only used for local travel). It requires a physical effort to turn the steering to remain on track within a curve. It has yet to be confirmed by a dealer: Williamsburg Chrysler sold me this vehicle 3-months ago as perfect (but as-is). If YOU suggest a dealership trustworthy enough to evaluate the system I will go there, otherwise I know of no dealership in my area who knows (or cares) to troubleshoot issues that are not so obvious parts are not falling off. NOTE: I noticed a Safety Recall V53/NHTSA 19V-348 Power Steering Assist exists but not specified for my 2019 Pacifica. The description is exactly what I'm referring to.

NHTSA #11725865

It malfunctioned on October 25th, it started working briefly the same day, but ultimately quite again until we reset it in the early evening. Reset being disconnecting the battery for an hour then reconnecting. After that, it worked fine the next day, throughout the drive home, and all week until it quit yesterday, Nov 2, 2025. It hasn’t worked since, even after a reset since yesterday Mov. 2, 2025. When making a hard left turn, the steering wheel system stopped completely!!! This caused it to be EXTREMELY HARD to steer the car and it steered the van towards traffic!!! If my wife had been driving, we would have been involved in a MAJOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT! No steering at all, who designs a steering system that has the possibility of, when failing, puts the vehicle & passengers at risk of serious injury or death!!!

NHTSA #11697297

Steering wheel sticks when attempting to return to straight position after a curve. Usually occurs when turning right but sometimes left. Only occurs at highway speeds, not on city streets. Chrysler dealer inspected vehicle, said no problem was found, recommended having tire alignment checked. Front tires did not need alignment but rear tires did and were aligned. Unfortunately, this did not correct the problem. This appears to be the same steering problem reported to affect 2017 and 2018 Pacifica per NHTSA investigation. Note: incident date, below, is date problem was first noticed. Problem is ongoing.

NHTSA #11703318

The steering on this vehicle has a catching sensation, especially when changing lanes at high speeds, or travelling down a curvy mountain highway. The steering seems to require extra effort to get back to a center position. The problem is most noticeable when making slight turns (such as changing lanes) at higher speeds.

NHTSA #11689343

While driving down the 70 mph interstate my steering went out and I had 5 people in my van. There was no warning or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. My sister [XXX] and my mother who is [XXX] was stranded on the interstate with traffic speeding by at a high rate of speed. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership and they reported the power steering rack failed and it will cost over $5,000 to repair. I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2019. The mechanic I have repairing this vehicle reports this is a manufacturing issue. This is a dangerous issues and this vehicle should be recalled. NHTSA #11691159

When driving in longer, gradual curves - the steering wheel "sticks". You can feel it isnt responsive, and you have to apply more pressure than you should to get it out of the "stuck" spot. Which makes the car over correct at times. It has happened dozens of times by now - so wasnt a one time thing. Most recent was a last night.

NHTSA #11686200

The steering wheel gets sticky when making turns and sometimes seems to be stuck when turning the wheel from a turn.

NHTSA #11686137

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at higher speeds, the steering wheel failed to return to center after making a turn to the left or the right. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic for a diagnostic test; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

NHTSA #11685865

Power steering failure October 11, 2024. Car battery malfunction. Thankfully I was in the slow lane and was able to drift to the shoulder of the highway. My safety of my entire family was put at risk. This includes me, my wife and 2 kids. The problem was confirmed by a dealership and I was able to replace the battery. The problem has not been reproduced, and no there were no warning lamps.

NHTSA #11709647

Power steering is sticking. This requires me to use additional force and thereby resulting in over correction. This has caused unintentional swerving into the adjacent lane nearly hitting other vehicles. Seems to be intermittent, but this has happened on numerous occasions. I see there is a currently an investigation into this matter and want you to be aware this is happening on 2019 vehicles as well.

NHTSA #11685853

There is a slight scrubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel in either direction. When I turn the wheel to the right there is a 'catch' of some sort and I have to put a little force in getting it centered again. I am scared honestly is gonna stay right and I am gonna run into something. I went to the auto parts store to see about power steering fluid only to find out my vehicle doesn't have that and its all electrical. I checked for recalls to see if this is an issue happening with my vehicle and saw none but did see that I am apparently not the only person to have reported such an issue. I am very, very concerned. This has been happening now for about a month.

NHTSA #11616379

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, after making a slight adjustment of the steering wheel to the right, while returning to center, the steering wheel was sticking and required extra force to return the steering wheel to center. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle was taken to another dealer, but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V348000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

NHTSA #11687886

While driving the steering will lock up and force a jerk when trying to get the steering wheel to move. At times there is a shudder while turning at slow speeds. Originally it was only present while turning as you are on an on ramp. It now appears also while driving straight.

NHTSA #11735407

Steering will stick at the 11 o’clock or 1 o’clock position while going around curves at highway speed and takes considerable force to get it back .

NHTSA #11595944

When driving about 40-45mph into a curve the steering wheel catches, I am very concerned for our safety due to having to over correct. I have not found any recalls on my vehicle, but there have been some for other vehicles like mine. No accidents. Want to prevent an accident

NHTSA #11616082

Engine15 complaints

We bought our brand-new Chrysler van in 2019. On [XXX] the oil filter housing needed to be replaced due to cheap manufacturing parts. It cost us $918.78. In October of 2025, we were experiencing some shaking in our van. Upon investigation, it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The repair was estimated at $3000 - $4000. The mileage on our van was a little over 93,000 miles. We were meticulous with the maintenance of our van. This, according to Chrysler Pacifica owner online forums, is not uncommon. There is a general outrage at the obvious manufacturing error. Is there any class action lawsuit ongoing? Is there any recourse available? Chrysler should pay out due to their shoddy work. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11699753

While driving light came on that car was hot. Immediately pulled over and had the van towed. Was told the head gasket was blown which damaged the engine. Engine now needs to be replaced. Cheapest estimate has been $9,000 at a dealership, van isn’t even paid off yet. My 5 children were in the car when this happened I was afraid the vehicle was going to stop in the middle of the rd. No other warnings or anything. Also when we first purchased van was idle and then go silent like it’s supposed to we have noticed it doesn’t even get quiet anymore. Very disappointed family of 7 with no way to have our van repaired.

NHTSA #11676736

The head gasket leaks, full engine replacement is recommended. No accidents, only 79k miles on the engine.

Van has 55,000 miles on it. Not overheating but noticed coolant reservoir keeps needing to be topped off daily. Also, just received check engine light code for cylinder 5. Shop diagnosed as head gaskets and now need an engine replacement. Absolutely unacceptable for a vehicle with such low miles.

NHTSA #11630362

The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica limited with 3.6l Pentastar engine had a check engine light come around 90,000 miles. The vehicle would suddenly lose acceleration power without warning, especially while getting onto the freeway. It was found that there is a known issue with the 3.2 and 3.6l Pentastar engines where the camshafts begin throwing metal shavings into the cylinders. The issue first presented itself as a cylinder 6 misfire with error code P0306. After replacing the spark plugs, coils, and VVT solenoids, the problem continued until the metal shavings were discovered. The design flaw of the engine causing the camshaft to produce metal shavings into the cylinders that lead to the sudden loss of acceleration is a major safety concern.

NHTSA #11632747

The check engine light came on. The day it came on, when starting the vehicle, it started shaking while in idle and when initially driving. The same day I had the engine read and a cylinder 6 misfire came up on the report. When I began driving, the car was shaking and it felt like it could stop abruptly which could have caused an accident. Yes, it was inspected and it was diagnosed that the head gasket is blown. Yes, the check engine light came on. It should be noted that when my local mechanic diagnosed the problem, two other Chrysler Pacifica's and two other vehicles with the v6 engine have the same issue.

NHTSA #11619115

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle stalled, with the START/STOP light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off independently. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

NHTSA #11618138

I am the mechanic that was hard to work on this vehicle and I am feeling this out for the customer but I am submitting it in my name . Vehicle has code p105c and p0303. The first code is pending permanent and stored, it is saying the intake valve is stuck in a low lift position. The second code is for cylinder 3 misfire. We had the coils switched over from cylinder 3 to cylinder 5 and made sure that the wiring was not damaged and the same code keeps coming back for that cylinder as well as the p105c. It causes the vehicle to start shaking while going down the road almost causing an accident. There is a recall on the 2020 Pacifica having the same code but there isn't a recall on the 2019 which has the same engine.

NHTSA #11611534

Around 79,000 miles, my 2019 Pacifica experienced check engine error codes. Upon diagnostics by a repair shop, found that the engine coolant was leaking into the engine due to a bad head gasket and that the engine cylinders were damaged and the only repair is a full engine replacement. The car has been maintained and received regular oil changes and should not fail in this manner at less than 80,000 miles. Reading through various forums I see this is a known issue with the 2017+ model year Pacificas

NHTSA #11606487

The transmission shifts/jerks hard and hesitates/struggles to accelerate at times. It has even shutdown numerous times while I was at a traffic light.

NHTSA #11633562

Engine was running low on coolant due to malfunction of heads Computer did not warn me or temperature senser gage showed normal Engine needs replaced now

NHTSA #11591836

Got on freeway on ramp. About 3/4 of a mile later, warning came on “Stop Safely, vehicle will shut off soon” - red turtle appeared, and service engine soon light came on. 1. Transmission - it is at this point, but part has been ordered to replace 2.Going freeway speeds (73MPH) and had to immediately slow and pull over with little warning. If the traffic would have been heavier, there is a good chance a collision would have occurred. 3. Yes - it was taken to a dealership today (5-9-24) and they indicated it is a transmission issue, and are ordering parts to correct this issue 4. No warnings prior to it coming on when I was driving.

NHTSA #11587898

Engine failure; engine light P0306 error, cylinder 6 head gasket blown. Mileage 62k, Year 2019. Yes, vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle was a danger to my family and others, as it unexpectedly overheated on the freeway, and there were no known engine problems to that point. I drive a minivan for my family (2 parents and 3 children), and I am also a carpool parent for two other children, and regularly drive children to and from school, twice a day. An engine failure with no warning is a massive danger and a huge compromise to safety to the families involved and those on the road around us as it occurred unexpectedly on a freeway, at freeway speeds. Upon inspection by a mechanic, it was discovered that the vehicle had no coolant, the coolant had been leaking into the engine, causing mis-firing of cylinder 6, and the car overheated due to low coolant levels; the cylinder head gasket and exhaust manifold gasket was replaced. Additional engine components in poor condition and also replaced: all spark plugs, coolant housing, timing chain tensioner A and B, front crank shaft seal, timing cover gasket, oil filter housing, and rear engine mount. Additionally the cylinder head needed to be resurfaced. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. The vehicle and faulty components have been inspected by a mechanic. Leading up to the engine failure, there were no warnings of low coolant, as there is no coolant sensor; the engine light only turned on the day of engine failure; and a few days before engine failure, the only symptom observed was slightly stronger idling than normal, almost imperceptible.

NHTSA #11583424

Leaked coolant into cylinder 6 at 47,090 miles. Head gasket replaced under warranty by dealer on 4/26/22. Currently experiencing cylinder 6 misfire, rough idling and using 16 oz coolant per month at 66,683 miles. Dealer recommended new head gasket and new head on 10/20/23.

NHTSA #11551484

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, or while the vehicle was idling, the Auto START/STOP system light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone to be diagnosed. The mechanic retrieved DTC codes: P0205 and P0305. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the main wiring harness, ignition coil, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,419.

NHTSA #11531350

Power Train14 complaints

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a red light, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and the transmission unexpectedly shifted from drive(D) to park(P) and the vehicle shut off. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact stated that the failure occurred once a week. The contact also stated that the battery had previously been replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that no cause of failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

NHTSA #11727901

When driving the car with not shift for a long time and then shifts hard into gear.I can also smell an odor some times. I have kids I don’t want to be driving and it cause me to wreck or catch fire. Other people I know had the same problem. This needs to be addressed.

NHTSA #11701115

Internal failure of the electronic shifter assembly. Essentially the shifter would lock into place in undesired gear-for example-attempt to move into D, would move to R and lock up so the only way we could get it to stop moving/into desired gear was to immediately power off (even though not in P) and try again on restart (which is very scary thinking your car may reverse or move foward w/no ability to stop it). This occurred on multiple occasions prior to bring to dealer, when children present in the car, and did not consistently occur every ignition. Currently vehicle is at Cornerstone Ford/Chrysler/GMC in Elk River and they have ordered the part (Nationwide backorder), estimated stock date w/in 7d but suspect seeing nationwide shortage-is this shortage due to many vehicles needing replacement-that alone would make me suspect need for safety recall! The vehicle hasn't been inspected by anyone but the dealer, no warning lights/messages/other symptoms that we noted.

The transmission is starting to jerk and make hard abrupt transitions from gears

NHTSA #11685907

Engine shut down warning while on the highway stating to pull over as the engine was going to shut down. No power to accelerate during this time. This is the second time this has happened and the first time the transmission needed to be replaced under warranty. The problem persists despite Chrysler’s attempts to fix.

NHTSA #11666541

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH down a winding mountain road, the message “Pull Over Immediately - Vehicle will Shut down Soon” was displayed. The contact pulled over and was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the message was displayed three times. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a software update and transmission rebuild were needed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,200.

NHTSA #11667607

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the RPM's increased rapidly, but the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 204,000.

NHTSA #11653247

Van engine failed during driving. This is a known issue by Chrysler and they will not repair the underlying problem - this is related to a prior recall. Instead, it only suggested replacing the battery which is a temporary fix. Separately, this van has a pending recall due to a fire risk. Unable to use the plug-in hybrid function of the van nor park it in a garage due to the recall issue. It has been almost four months since the recall notice without any news of when Chrysler will fix this problem. On [XXX] around 12:00 PM, while traveling northbound in the HOV lane at 70 MPH on [XXX] near [XXX] , with two small children in the passenger row and two adults in the front, the following error suddenly appeared on the dashboard: "Stop Safely -- Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." Power to the engine stopped as a result and the car coasted. A "red turtle" warning and a "Check Engine" error also displayed. No other errors, unfamiliar sounds, or mechanical noises preceded these errors, nor had there been any other recent problems with the car. We pulled over to the shoulder immediately and turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes to see whether the errors would persist. With the "Stop Safely" error no longer on the dashboard, we turned the car on again and drove it to the dealership. On that drive, the previous errors appeared a second time. The dealership, Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World (La Mesa CA), has confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle until the transmission is replaced. On August 30, 2024, the dealership said that they are waiting for Stellantis to release the transmission and "that won't happen any time soon." As of today, September 2, 2024, Carl Burger has failed to provide a timeline for the replacement and have informed us that we must deal with Stellantis in order to get the case escalated and the car repaired. They have also refused to offer us a replacement/loaner vehicle while ours is in the shop. Vehicle was found to be overheating, with low coolant. Initial concern for possible hose leak, but nothing visualized on inspection...testing demonstrated a blown head gasket and possible warped cylinder. This is a recurring problem for Chrysler Pacifica's that Chrysler refuses to address. There were no warning signs before hand.

6/20/24: Driving on highway. Message comes up "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut off Soon" and a turtle lights up on the dashboard. I pull over and turn van off. I turn it back on and message is still there. I turn it off again and this time quickly open and close the door to completely shut down the electric. Turn it back on and message is gone but check engine light is on. Drive home and then drive more during the evening with check engine light on the entire time. 6/21/24: Start the car in the morning and check engine light is off. Able to travel for about an hour and then, driving on highway, same message comes up and I do the same thing. Check engine light stays on again but message goes away. Drive for about 20 minutes and the message comes up again. Again I pull over and do the same series of things as described. Car allows me to drive but check engine light is on. Do not drive the car for the rest of the weekend. 6/24/24: Start car in the morning. Check engine light is on as I drive it about 5 minutes to my local mechanic. He runs the codes and does the research and tell me that I need a new transmission and it is under warranty. I pick up the van later to take it to dealer and the check engine light is off. Drive to dealer and now the dealer says there is nothing they can do if the light doesn't go back on. They are saying that I have to experience this same problem on a highway with my family in the car for them to fix it even though there is a recall on this transmission.

Clunking from the transmission and this is a common issue with many pacificas. There is a “reset” online but this temporary solves the issue. At times it’s very dangerous when driving when the transmission clunks when finding another gear.

NHTSA #11588914

Vehicle more and more frequently clunks the transmission when accelerating or shortly after excelerating to highway speeds. First started around 60k+ miles. Can tell when it will occur because the engine RPMs don't match the throttle input. RPMs rev just as transmission is ready to shift. Slight feeling of being out of control for a moment, especially in the rain. A quick Google search shows us that the shift jolt isn't new and is actually exactly what was happening with the Honda Odyssey van, which used to share the same transmission. Dealership acknowledged the issue has occured with multiple customers but Chrysler doesn't warrant the concern due to the $8,000+ service expense.

NHTSA #11560562

The transmission is very unresponsive and dealerships don’t find anything wrong other than resetting the computer every 2 days. The transmission clunks and jerks the car going into 2nd and or 3rd gear. Many times I press the pedal in highway/city driving and the transmission takes 2.5 to 3 seconds to respond. This is not the electric model. Online tons of people talk about this it’s a safety hazard to have an unresponsive clunky transmission. Reputable companies are naming this the worst car. Cars.com wrote an article over this very problem. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My care had issue and showing message on dashboard for "service shifter" and was diagnosed by the Ferman Dealership on US 19, New Port Richey, FL. After dealership fixed the issue, Paid around $800, I picked up the car and drove around and took on freeway, after sometimes I got the message of service shifter again on dashboard and steering became hard and other function were stopped working. It felt like car was driving by itself as it would go up in speed even when i did not have my foot on it. Even after hitting the break it would stop but then again it would go up in speed by itself. I parked my car and waited after 15 to 20 min then started driving normally. I had to drop the car back to the dealership and explained the whole situation. They looked at it again and fixed the issue. After picking it up 2nd time i noticed i had issue with my screen. It started acting on its own like it was a ghost touch screen. It would jump to other setting while listening to music or have my navigation on, it would stop. Also, when backing up the care i noticed my back camera went blank, I could not see anything. Also, other time other cameras went blank. Like a black spot where you can't see anything. Called the dealership again and explained them. They told me to do the resent which i could not able to do it so went to dealership and they did reset the screen but after sometimes on the same day it started acting up again. I dropped the car again and told them to look into it. They did reset it again and told me that due to sun exposure screen has bubbles inside. I have this car since 5 years and did not have this problemThis issue i didn't have it before service shifter message popped up. Now they said there will be additional cost to replace the screen which cost around $1700. This is something that dealership needs to cover since issue started after fixing service shifter problem. And this is a safety issue as when i back up i can't see anything and screen acting on its own.

We received multiple reminders for the recalls to be addressed, but each time we make an appointment at various service centers, they say that they cannot address the recall due to staff shortage and parts not being available. This has been persisting for over 4 years. Chrysler does not make a good faith effort to address these recalls. Most recently, we had an appointment and they (Spring Autonation in Spring, TX) told us that they would have to hold the car for weeks before being able to get to it due to shortage of staff as they only have two service members who can address it. Helfman Dodge said they holding time would be 3-4 weeks before being able to get to it. Teh reminders for the three recalls are coming from the dealerships, and yet they are not able to address them.

I had my three children in the van and was holding our new baby as I opened the automatic passenger-side sliding door. It opened part way, got stuck, but the autotrack kept operating trying to open the door. At that point, the whole door fell off and the window immediately behind the door broke. We had it towed to a dealer since we didn't want to drive it with everything open. I was very fortunate that the door didn't drop on my feet or that one of my children wasn't standing there waiting to get in! With the holiday, we are waiting to talk to our insurance agent on Monday. The dealer has given us an estimate to fix everything, but that is the only thing like an inspection. Prior to the incident, the door would sometimes stop when opening, then it would reverse and close itself. Then you could reopen it and it worked. There were no other warnings.

Suddenly, without warning, the radio changes stations (goes from SXM to radio, etc) and the entire display goes amok switching from radio to climate control to other functions. Then the climate control system malfunctions causing the temperature to continuously go up as well as the heated seat and steering wheel to get hotter and hotter. It first occurred in March 2022 (when van was under warranty) and was brought in to Chrysler who did NOT record the incident and said they saw nothing wrong. Today (now that it is out of warranty) they say they have to reset the radio thing ($200-ish) and maybe replace the entire system ($1300-ish). We have video of both incidents, but there were a few in between that we didn't record. I cannot figure out how to upload the 2 videos.

Vehicle parked faced in in a tight fitting space in a hotel underground parking area. When leaving the knob was in the park position, push button start, vehicle started in the park position, looked behind and the people across from me had just loaded their van. They were now on the side of their van. It was now clear. I then placed the transmission from park to reverse still with the foot on the brake. I then released the brake . The vehicle suddenly and abruptly went in reverse without accelerating but when applying the brake the vehicle would not stop and continued going backwards even though I was firmly now pressing and pumping on the brake pedal to no avail. I yelled at my wife, "it won't stop, it won't stop" It backed up not stopping for approximately 25 feet and struck two vehicles finally coming to rest, The damage to all three vehicles including mine was minor. I reported the accident on private property to my insurance company. I know for a fact that my foot did not push down on the accelerator pedal nor was part of my foot on both the brake and accelerator pedal. which is almost impossible to do. The stop start system had broken three times since purchasing the van. This was done again 2 weeks before this accident. The vehicle is available for inspection. Quite apparent ithis is a safety risk. This occurred 1 day ago and has not been inspected. Accident on private property in Calif. No accident report was taken. No warning lamps, messages etc occurred. I keep the van in good repair. No warnings light at all other than the stop start feature which was dealt with by the Chrysler dealership. They, in my opinion have not been helpful to me. The rep I talked with at the dealership re the stop start problem was not aware that the alternator is 14 volts and the battery 12 volts. How basic.

We had put a ladder on the roof of our van to return to Home Depot, and I opened our rear gate. I didn't know it at the time, but the van's rear gate could not open all the way at the top because of the ladder, which hung a few inches over the top of the gate. Because I didn't know the ladder was in the way, when the rear gate opened, I bent over inside the van with my small dog to put her in her crate. Immediately, I heard the warning beeper start to go off, but before I could move out of the way, the gate came zooming down fast on my head and I had to squeeze to the size and fell into my driveway bushes trying to get out of the way. Thankfully, neither I nor my dog were harmed, but we could have both been seriously injured or killed. I have no idea why a rear gate would descend so fast or not sense that I and my dog were present.

Brakes hiss and won't slow the car down well. Issue is with the brake booster. The car creep forward or sometimes not stop in time. the peddle pushes back against you when depressing it.

NHTSA #11682932

The car doesn't stop when break is pressed all the way down has newer brake pads, practically slides into intersections and other vehicles. Has appointment at dealer on july first but they stated no recall is issued for this problem.

NHTSA #11670226

The brake pedal felt spongy and did not engage without me pumping the brakes at a traffic light. I had to quickly change lanes to get the brakes to engage. Otherwise I would have crashed into the vehicle in front of me. Also sometimes when sitting at a traffic light the brake pedal pulls away at random as if it is disengaging which cause the car to roll forward. I have to again pump the brake pedal. This issue has occurred 2-3 times so far. I took the van to two different auto repair shops. One shop said it’s the Brake booster. I got a second opinion at another mechanic shop and he did not find a problem with the car and could not recreate the problem. The second mechanic indicated it is most likely a Chrysler specific problem and the car should be taken back to the dealer. As the car needs to stop when the brakes are depressed as it could cause an auto accident. I was advised to check to see if there is already a recall relating to the ABS brakes system for the Chrysler Pacifica. I also mentioned the Electronic Stability Control Service light is coming on the dashboard display at times.

Brake Booster has failed. There was previously an extended warranty published for this same issue on November 11, 2023 (No D-22-15) for XA7 Brake Booster, however that expires after 5 years after the vehicle was placed in service or 150,000 miles (whichever is sooner). The Brake Booster failure on our vehicle happened just a few short months after this "expiration date" of the extended warranty. Also, the date of the extended warranty was issued was November 2023. This left only 5 months from the issuance of the letter to the expiration of the warranty, which does not seem to be a reasonable amount of time. Our vehicle is not safe to drive as the brakes are not functioning properly which could result in serious and fatal injury's to the occupants or other vehicles on the roadway. Additionally repair parts are not available to purchase and are on a "National back order". Attention needs to be given to this topic as there are many vehicles on the road that are not safe because of this lack of quality.

The vehicle's brake booster is going out. The vehicle's warranty was already extended once but is now out of that 5-year timeframe. This issue began about 2 weeks ago. The power brake booster was failing and causing the vehicle to not stop as expected. When it was brought to an auto mechanic a few weeks after noticing the issue, they described it as appearing defective beyond normal wear-and-tear and reminiscent of a recall for earlier year models of Chrysler Pacificas. The issue caused the vehicle to not respond to the pushing of the brakes and required a pumping of the brakes until the vehicle stopped. Occasionally, when the brakes were depressed and the car was at rest, the vehicle would start moving and the brake pedal would push strongly against being depressed. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this issue; the issue was discovered simply by noticing that the brakes were not working as they should.

Hello, my vehicle's brake booster is part of a safety recall and warranty extension by Chrysler. When I called the company servicing the reimbursement for these repairs I was told that the repair work could only be performed at a Chrysler (or associated brand) dealership. The entire electrical system is messed up. There will be times it works fine but all of a sudden while driving the odometer will switch between mph and kilometers, it'll change the screen, heated seats/steering wheel will turn on or off, it'll change the air system, the stop/start frequently goes out, we've had to replace both batteries and within a few months are having to replace both again. The transmission has a lot of issues as well and it's not safe while driving it'll "jump" or stall while shifting gears.

There was a clicking noise coming from under the dash. This flapping may have been going on for years. I only took in the car after a passenger noted that this noise was something abnormal. Others have noted that this will drain the secondary battery and I have had to have that battery replaced. The dealership said it would be five hundred dollars to replace the recirc door actuator (98258 B105D). They charged me $99.95 in labor to diagnose it. I bought a replacement part myself and replaced it myself. I disassembled what was supposed to be the faulty part, but found all gears perfectly fine. I noticed there were no issues related to the recirc door itself. The replacement part worked fine until the next day, when I pushed the passenger door lock button and the flapping noise resumed. I ran the old recirc motor disconnected from the recirc door and noticed that it exhibited a flapping behavior independent of whether or not it was actually attached to the door. This indicates a programming issue, not a physical issue.

After safety recall 72B was performed on my 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid on 7/17/25, the vehicle's check engine light illuminated and it began experiencing charging failures. I've never experienced these issues prior to the recall being performed and the vehicle returned to me. The component that has failed is the high-voltage (HV) battery pack and its control system. Diagnostic scans performed by a Chrysler dealer on 7/29/25 confirmed trouble codes, which indicate a critical fault within the battery system. The HV battery is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others are at risk because the recall was issued to prevent a battery fire. The symptoms my vehicle is exhibiting are precisely the kinds of faults the recall's software update is supposed to detect. The first warning signs, including the check engine light, appeared within days of the recall service. This strongly indicates the recall procedure, specifically the mandatory battery integrity test, was not completed correctly by the dealership. This is a widespread issue, with numerous owners reporting the same post-recall failures online and to Chrysler Cares customer service. Chrysler is not taking this failed recall seriously and are forcing owners to pay for their own rental vehicles while they investigate the "undriveable" vans post-recall completion.

Now it has failed completely and never works. The part to fix it is back ordered by mopar and hasn't been available for a long time to fix it.

Chrysler issued recall 72B back in July but has failed to provide a repair solution to the issue of a high voltage battery fire. While driving, vehicle will display "stop safely vehicle will stop soon" and illuminate the battery and auto stop/start icons. This had happened previously and I was advised to have the auxillary battery replaced. After, the issue did not occur for a month or so but happened again. Had been intermittent but the car never shut off as I have read has happened to others. The additional issue I have is several times when I turned the vehicle off after the warning appeared, the vehicle would not start. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow to see what they can uncover. I have seen the recalls about this primarily about the EV models (which mine is not) but still want this noted. I have read it has varied from a wiring connector and needing a new transmission. There are currently no active recalls for my specific vehicle. Very scary stuff with a vehicle full of kids at times.

The following message displays on the vehicle: “Stop Safely. Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon.” Upon receiving the message, the vehicle will stall. This has occurred multiple times while driving on the freeway at 70 mph, while driving on city streets, etc. Every time the vehicle stalls, it is INCREDIBLY dangerous. There is not always time to pull over to a safe location as the vehicle simply freezes up and won't move. This is a van which means that there could often be children in the vehicle. It is a danger to ourselves and to other vehicles around us. We were first told that this was an issue with wiring in the battery. The second time we took it in, we were told that it was because the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. Now, we're told that we need to replace the generator. Please note that the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica has known electronic issues with the vehicle stalling. The vehicle is at a Chrysler Dealership for the third time this month for diagnostic evaluation and repairs. The error message has been confirmed by the dealership.

Electrical System,Unknown Or Other6 complaints

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid experienced a serious charging system failure during routine overnight charging using a standard Level 2 home charger that had previously worked without issue. In the morning, the charging connector was physically trapped in the vehicle charge port and could not be removed despite repeated normal troubleshooting attempts, including repeated unlock cycles, charger power cycling, breaker reset, and reseating attempts. Because the Pacifica Hybrid disables operation while a charging connector is detected, the vehicle became completely undrivable and required towing. Multiple AAA tow operators were unable to move the vehicle normally. We ultimately had to personally research and guide the tow operators through the manual neutral override procedure in order to get the vehicle into neutral and onto the tow truck. The dealership has suggested that the connector may have fused or arced together during charging and is attempting to characterize the situation as “not the vehicle’s fault.” Regardless of the precise electrical mechanism, this event occurred during ordinary intended use of the vehicle’s charging system. The end result was that the vehicle trapped the connector, immobilized itself, and stranded the owner without any meaningful owner-accessible recovery method. This is not ordinary wear and tear or a cosmetic inconvenience. This was a charging-system immobilization event involving a vehicle platform that already has a documented history of charging-system recalls and software-related charging concerns. The vehicle was being used exactly as intended. No misuse, modification, or improper operation occurred. A vehicle shouldn't become completely inoperable during routine charging. I am requesting review of this matter as a significant charging-system failure and requesting goodwill assistance regarding the substantial diagnostic and repair costs now being imposed on the customer for an event that occurred during normal operation.

After taking my car in for the recall on the battery which required a system update, I’ve had multiple errors that the Chrysler service department cannot resolve. Four times in the last two weeks when I get in the car and crank it, it will not go into drive or the shifter does not work at all. I’m having multiple errors on saying service shifter and service electrical battery that had never occurred before the system recall update. I’ve been stranded multiple times in the last two weeks. It must be related to the recall update that was done in my car. It cannot be a sheer coincidence that I never had issues until the update. The service department is not helpful in anyway and returns my car with no answer. Simple google research shows this is a recurring issue after the update.

When the light turned green, and I put my foot on the gas, the car stalled and shut off. Upon pressing the ignition button, it would not start again. For several weeks, the car would stall at a red light, but would always turn back on by pressing the ignition button. There were NO warning messages whatsoever. I had to cross a busy road to get to the sidewalk to get out of danger. The car was in the left turn lane, stopped with hazards on. My husband had to come, turn our other car around so he could attempt to charge the battery. When he charged the battery, the car started. I had to, again, cross the busy road to get back to my van and go home. We changed the car's two batteries, and it has not happened again so far. Upon reading several Chrysler Pacifica forums, apparently when the battery gets low (it was at 30% when this happened), the auto start shuts off and does not work since there is not enough power left in the battery.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The vehicle has ongoing steering, electrical, and power steering/EPS failures. The steering wheel intermittently jerks/pulls while driving, the vehicle has experienced random loss of steering assist, and the electrical system cuts out or malfunctions during normal use. The steering wheel lights and backup camera guidelines also disappear during driving sessions and only return after fully restarting the vehicle. The exact root cause is UNKNOWN, but the affected systems appear to include the EPS/power steering system, steering/suspension components, battery/electrical system, and possibly related control modules. My safety and others’ safety were put at risk because the vehicle has lost steering assist and had electrical failure while being driven, including a prior failure in an intersection. When the steering assist drops or the wheel jerks, the vehicle becomes difficult to control. This is especially dangerous because I transport my family in this vehicle. The issue has been reported repeatedly since purchase. The vehicle was inspected/repaired through Carvana/SilverRock’s repair process at Brockman Automotive, including rack and pinion/steering-related work. After that repair, the vehicle continued to drift and handle improperly. A later independent inspection at Davidson Automotive identified a loose/not properly secured tie rod, alignment problems, and a failed auxiliary battery. The shop could not complete deeper diagnostics until those prerequisite issues were corrected. The vehicle has also suffered abnormal front tire wear after the steering/alignment problems. Warning/symptoms before or during failures include steering wheel jerking/pulling, clunking/clanking/grinding/groaning noises, vehicle drift, service start/stop warning, electrical malfunctions, intermittent steering wheel control/light issues, loss of backup camera guidelines, and loss of steering assist. The vehicle/component is available for inspection upon request.

when driving into a left curve the chrysler pacifica minivan at roughly 10:00 on the steering wheel, the steering wheel locks and is very hard to get out of the locked state. in order to clear the locked state I have to jerk the wheel hard back to the right to get it free. I feel that it will eventually either stay locked in that position and cause a head on collision or if overcorrected will cause the vehicle to swerve to the right and cause a crash. I feel this is a very unsafe situation and have talked to many people with this problem and they have also said the same thing. Also i have read several forums on the internet about others across the country having the same issue. secondly the backup camera has started to not work recently. it started around the same time that the locked steering situation occurred. also some of the buttons on the steering wheel are not functioning properly. volume up when pressed causes the volume to go down and vice versa. i believe that there is an electrical issue in this vehicle and it is affecting the steering along with other items. please initiate the recall for the steering because i do not feel safe with this happening and especially if it is raining. thank you

While driving the car down a busy 4 lane road at 55mph on [XXX] around [XXX] in Irvine, CA, the car began to shake as the steering locked up and alerts came up on the dash that the power steering had failed. After turning the car off and on it did not fix it. Leaving it off for 15 mins seemed to make the error go away. We had it towed to Tustin Tuttle Chrysler dealership for service. The dealership found the fault code in the log, it was a power steering control failure. They could not replicate the circumstance and insist on releasing the car as safe to drive; putting my family and the public at great risk. The dealership refuse to even run diagnostics on the faulty identified part. They said if they cannot recreate the problem they won’t fix it, even though they see the error code on their scanner. They shouldn’t be telling me the car is safe when it is clearly not. They only drove it 30 miles and did not check wiring or even pop the hood. They have done no work to deem it safe and this is fraud. Rochelle, the service manager, has told us over the phone that she will not work on the car, because she believes she will not be reimbursed for the work. She has said she has had the car for too long and wants it picked up. Her service advisor Erik, has read us the codes found over the phone and also told us that no one has worked on it and only has test driven it. Our greatest concern is the dealership is not servicing or repairing vehicles and putting very dangerous cars on the road. This is a public safety issue for all of Southern California. Additionally, this car was purchased with a full manufacturer’s bumper-to-bumper warranty, of which it is still in its covered in the next 3 years or 40,000 miles. Vehicle Incident Summary – 2019 Chrysler Pacifica [XXX] is the orginal owner Initial Incident – [XXX] At 50,779 miles, my 2022 Chrysler Pacifica lost all power while driving on Mound Road in Sterling Heights, MI. Officer Nathan Sears from the Sterling Heights Police Department assisted, and the vehicle had to be towed. The diagnosis at the time was complete battery failure—both batteries were replaced. Current Ongoing Issue – [XXX] At 86,000 miles, the vehicle once again became completely inoperable. It was towed to Jim Riehl’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Warren, MI. I was initially told the issue was the starter, and I paid $1,200 for the repair. However, the vehicle still does not start. I have now been told the issue may be a blown head gasket or engine failure. The dealership is requesting an additional $2,000–$3,000 just to disassemble the vehicle to determine the exact cause. If it is indeed an engine failure, I’ve been informed that repairs could cost up to $12,000. Concerns: I paid for a starter replacement and the car remains undrivable. There was no resolution or refund offered despite a misdiagnosis. Now I am being asked to pay thousands more just to identify the problem. If this is engine failure, it occurred at only 86,000 miles. I have since found many other Pacifica owners reporting similar failures—battery, engine, and complete loss of power—raising concerns of a potential manufacturing defect. Why I’m Reporting This: This vehicle has experienced major, potentially dangerous failures twice—first a complete power loss while driving, and now possible engine failure without warning. If this had happened at higher speeds or on the highway, it could have been catastrophic. I am requesting this issue be investigated for possible safety defects and design flaws. Our pacifica has repeatedly stalled on freeways. The engine will just stop running and will not start for 15 minutes to several hours. If it does start, it often will sputter and stall again if you try to put it in ear or press the accelerator. After some time, the problem will resolve itself and the vehicle will drive normally. This problem is infrequent which is what makes it so vexing. Each incident was more than 6 months apart so you never know when it will just stall out. Because our van was converted to a rear entry wheelchair van by Braunability we've had the conversion components/connections thoroughly inspected by the conversion company dealer. I can see online that this is a known issue with multiple vehicles equipped with the Pentastar V6 engine with stop-start and that there have been recalls but many people on the forum, the recall work didn't resolve the issue. We've had the vehicle to Chrysler dealers several times (four or five) to address the issue without permanent resolution. We've replaced the primary and secondary batteries several times. We've recently installed an aftermarket stop-start eliminator recently in the hope that it will resolve the problem. Additionally, because our Pacifica was converted for our disabled child, we will probably need to sell the vehicle at a significant loss because we can't risk having the vehicle stall on the interstate highway or freeway as we have no way to remove him from it safely. This issue seems so widespread that Chrysler/Stellantis should have continued responsibility to resolve it permanently.

Over six months later, NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V538000 still has no remedy for an apparent fire risk! I can't charge my vehicle and I can't park it in my own garage. I drive at risk of being in the midst of a spontaneous fire! THE MANUFACTURER has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. I bought a plug in hybrid that I can't plug in. I bought it also for gas mileage complimented by the electrical propulsion system, which I cannot use. When at a stopped position, the brake pedal gets stiff and starts pushing back … and then the car starts creeping forward. I’ve almost hit countless cars in drive-through, and my car tries to creep through red lights. It’s also very hard to brake. I went to one shop and they said it was the brake booster and vacuum hose , and that a lot of people were complaining about this issue in the Pacifica’s. I took the car to a Chrysler dealership to get it repaired and they said the brake booster is on back order because it’s a common problem. The only way to get the car to stop from rolling when you’ve got the brake on is to slam down on the brake (then it’s a crazy crunching sound) or to throw it into park before it gets you into traffic. It’s scary and it’s not safe.

Vehicle will stop soon” message and after that it went completely dead. This is a concern that the vehicle would stop when driving and making the vehicle not responding to anything. You cannot control (brakes, driving modes, light) anything and when AAA jump started the car was in “Running” mode and asking to power on the vehicle.

Steering,Service Brakes,Engine1 complaint

While @ highway speed this vehicle lost ipower steering, power braking and the engine stalled out…this latest event prompted my complaint and was the third time I have experienced this situation. In all three incidents I was simply able to coast to the side of the road and stop. Thankfully after a few attempts to restart the vehicle started and ran. It was very frightening given it lost total power on all three occasions without notice or warning it like it just turns itself off. I contacted RollX vans the folks from whom we purchased this handicap transport vehicle and they informed me of a safety recall V53 for 2017-2019 Pacificas. The recall details the exact symptoms of what I experienced. I took the recall information and the vehicle to a local dealership Larry H Miller Chrysler, Tucson AZ and they mostly dismissed my account and said there is NO recall on my VIN despite the V53 recall. They said the tech couldn’t get it to duplicate and situation. They said they checked the grounds and it’s all OK. I am not convinced considering the timeline of their alleged repair and the answers I rec’d from the service writer when I asked specifics about the repair. I suspect they simply test drove it when it did not duplicate the situation they said it’s OK.

Electrical System,Air Bags,Engine1 complaint

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the ongoing issues plaguing my car. This dissatisfaction is compounded by the fact that this car was brand new when I picked it up from the dealership, with no miles on it. Since then, I have encountered a series of concerning problems. At around 30,000 miles, the batteries required replacement, followed shortly by a transmission replacement at 40,000 miles. Additionally, the TV screens throughout the car began shutting off autonomously, a persistent issue that remains unresolved. Subsequently, at 60,000 miles, both the engine and batteries needed replacement once again. Despite repeated efforts to address these issues under warranty, the car continues to experience persistent troubles. It often stalls every two days, and despite addressing these issues under warranty, the TV malfunctions persist. Furthermore, the situation has escalated with the engine now overheating and malfunctions occurring in critical safety features such as airbags, lights, and ACC. These concerns have created a myriad of safety issues within the vehicle, particularly during driving, with multiple safety concerns arising regarding the navigation and various electronic components. It is evident that these safety hazards are all mechanically related and have persisted since the car reached 30,000 miles. Additionally, amidst these significant safety concerns, one of the main safety components of the vehicle is compromised. Intermediately and on a consistent basis, the car doors open on their own, posing a serious risk. There have been instances where my son has inadvertently pressed the door to open from the outside, and the doors open without any form of key input. The key is not present, yet the door opens on its own, triggering the alarm. This ongoing issue has left me emotionally and monetarily drained over the past few years.

The Uconnect 4 infotainment system is consistently rebooting every 2-3 minutes, leaving several safety measures for the vehicle from being used during those times. This leaves risk that the safety feature is not usable when needed for example rear warning for small child behind vehicle is not operable. As well the Navigation system is not working appropriately and has the vehicle always located at a street that I am no where near. This leaves risk that it will be a distraction to driver to locate their whereabouts in unfamiliar areas. Also not able to use hands free system for mobile device when the system is continuously rebooting as such and therefore would not be able to make call for emergency assistance when needed. FCA US LLC has been provided many complaints about this yet continues to ignore that this is a wide spread issue and is nationwide. Therefore they fail to extend the warranty related to the Uconnect 4 infotainment system and render thousands of people having to cover the cost of their faulty Uconnect product.

The entire radio/ backup camera freezes and will not come back on for minutes at a time. The dealer is aware of the problem and replaced the entire system once already. They were not able to reproduce the issue however I have video and pictures of a few incidents. There were no warnings however it almost always happens when first starting the car and so the backup camera becomes unusable along with all temperature controls and radio.
