Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

SERVICE BRAKES

NHTSA #19V761000

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Reported consequence: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)

NHTSA #26V289000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with four-wheel (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and certain 2015-2020 Suburban, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Tahoe vehicles. A component missing from the drivetrain transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up without warning to the driver.

Reported consequence: Front or rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the remedy is completed. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 18, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. GM's number for this recall is N262557620. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on May 7, 2026.

Power Train11 complaints

I recieved this message after bringing my 2019 Chevy Tahoe to the dealership today for regular maintenanceand to check out a slight noise coming from under my hood: Rotational noise in your engine compartment had to remove the belts to be able to isolate where the sound was coming from. The noise is coming from the camshaft inside your engine so we know that is going bad. He also noticed that the engine mounts are worn out, oil cooler lines leaks and water pump leaking. I have kept up all required/recommended maintenance on time and didnt have any reason to believe I needed anything more then belts replaced and fluids changed when I took my truck to the dealer. After recieving that message, I spoke with the manager at the dealer and he said its a common issue. I've loved on my vehicle and value it as it is my only vehicle that transports my 2 children and myself around. Therefore im confused how this could happen outside of a manufacturer defect. There werent any warning lights, just a slight chirp coming from under the hood which sound like maybe a belt was going. The truck is at Boniface Chevy Melbourne Florida where I purchased it from.

NHTSA #11742796

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled while attempting to shift gears. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that metal shavings were found in the transmission, causing the transmission to fail. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

NHTSA #11713889

Ticking sound started from the motor and the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealership and was informed the vehicle had bad lifters with a bent push rod needing a full motor replacement. The vehicle has 92k miles and was purchased a year and a half ago from that same dealership. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting costly repairs.

The automatic transmission on my 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe has failed prematurely at approximately 88,000 miles. The dealership confirmed internal transmission damage, specifically that Solenoid #3 in the valve body is sticking and not engaging, which requires a complete transmission replacement. Their written inspection states: “Possible internal damage in transmission. Solenoid 3 in valve body is not engaging.” The component is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This malfunction created several dangerous situations. The vehicle hesitated, struggled to shift into gear, and at times moved forward while in reverse. These symptoms could cause loss of control, delayed acceleration when entering traffic, or unexpected movement putting myself and others at risk. Diagnosis Confirmation: Yes. The problem has been fully inspected, reproduced, and confirmed by an authorized Chevrolet dealership service center. They provided a written estimate of 8,669.59 for a complete transmission replacement. Inspection by Others: The transmission has been inspected by the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. No independent mechanic, police, or insurance representative has inspected it yet, but the dealership’s findings are available. Warning Lamps or Symptoms: Prior to the failure, I experienced hesitation, difficulty engaging gears, harsh shifting, and the vehicle lunging forward while in reverse. Shortly after these symptoms appeared, both the check engine light and tire pressure light came on. Additional Context: GM has released multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), including 19-NA-153 and 21-NA-199, addressing known issues with their 8-speed transmissions such as harsh shifting, slipping, and valve body/solenoid problems. This suggests a broader pattern of defects. GM and the dealership offered only 10% goodwill assistance, leaving almost the entire repair cost to the consumer, despite this being an internal mechanical defect with normal personal use.

NHTSA #11700961

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, a message advising that the transmission fluid was overheating and to pull over was displayed. The contact coasted to the side of the road where, the vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission fluid was burnt, causing the transmission to slip while switching gears. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure was a known issue and to contact the dealer. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a vehicle safety complaint. The failure mileage was 100,000.

NHTSA #11662399

When slowing down and accelerating there is a shutter and a jerk to my transmission. While I am driving the shuttering is sometimes so loud I can hear it over the radio and it is a vibration motion.

NHTSA #11643718

Driving on the interstate when all the sudden there was no power to drive train, the rpm gauge red lined. I put gear shift to neutral and rpm gauge came down, at this time no check engine light. Coasted to exit and parked. Got out and look around Tahoe for damage none found, looked under hood and no damage or fluid anywhere, none found. Got back in Tahoe and shifted into drive. I drove on 2-line highway to nearby town; 25 mph is all it would go. There was not a chevy dealer in town, stop at a Ford dealership and they sent me to an independent shop. Check engine light came on as I drove to independent dealer. Independent dealer checked for codes found transmission he checked fluid level it was full, but fluid smelled burnt and had metal shavings. He pulled it into shop and dropped fluid pan, to visually verify transmission parts were bad. He had to install a new gm transmission.

2019 Tahoe Chevrolet purchased in October 2025 and engine locked up in January 2026 when Engine Valve Lifter went out. I kept car serviced. Went to start vehicle one morning and it started making the loudest noise as if it had bad gas. Found out lifter was gone out and locked the engine.

NHTSA #11719233

My 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine has experienced a major internal engine failure. The dealership diagnosed camshaft bearing failure with a recorded misfire on cylinder #5. The engine oil was drained and inspected and no significant metallic debris was found, and the dealership noted no evidence of abuse or neglect. Intermittent drivability concerns were present over the life of the vehicle and were addressed through professional diagnosis and repair each time. The vehicle has been properly maintained since new. Just months prior to this failure, the vehicle underwent full diagnostics and significant repairs, and no internal engine failure was identified. This failure appears consistent with a known defect pattern affecting GM 6.2L engines involving internal valvetrain or camshaft-related failures. The failure resulted in abnormal engine noise, misfire, loss of power, and the vehicle becoming unreliable for safe operation. General Motors has declined goodwill assistance citing warranty expiration, despite the nature of the failure being a non-wear internal engine defect. I am submitting this complaint so this VIN and failure can be reviewed as part of any ongoing investigation into 6.2L engine failures.

I also had this issue with my prior gmc 2017 yukon until i traded it in.. My currently 2019 chevy tahoe premier has always had services done when required with milage needed. My issue While driving viechle on freeway knocking with shaking sound in engine. Engine light would turn on. Even though with tune-ups oil changes done this problem still continued. Now my car is sitting on driveway and cant drive it

The 2019 Chevy Tahoe at 92000 miles is having lifter problems and a failing engine due to the DFM system. This is a 5.3L V8.

NHTSA #11661604

Valve lifter issue. Gm service told me 15000 engine replace. 1 year no used the vehicle. I buy the vehicle 35000. no recall or warranty. Have to much people this problem. And a gm just laughing at how the vehicle owners behaved.

NHTSA #11724287

On 10/23/24 the vehicle's 6.2 L L87 engine seized while driving on a state highway (similar to the later models already under recall) putting myself and other drivers at risk through a sudden loss of power and speed. The component was inspected at a GM dealership and then replaced AT MY COST. The replacing mechanic said the failure was in the rod bearings (the same as in the recalled engines). There were no warnings or related problems prior to the sudden failure. The existing recall ( Investigation:PE25001) needs to be expanded to these earlier model (2019 and 2020) engines that have the exact same issue.

NHTSA #11658570

Purchased a used (128k miles) 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe LT. First month of driving (not for everyday use) noticed some strange transmission and engine hesitations when reversing. Notified the dealership and was told the transmission needed reprogramming. They reprogrammed and the problem though less noticeable, still persisted. Contacted the local and the purchased dealership to let them know of the persistent issues. Purchase dealership had me bring the vehicle back where I was told the vehicle needed a new transmission. Vehicle had less than 600 miles since my purchase. I was told it was $10k and I was liable due to the expiration of the limited warranty. Let them know these issues were identified and not fixed during the warranty period. Dealers fixed the vehicle but still charged me almost $4k. With the new transmission in place, I still noticed an engine hesitation, as if it was missing. Had new plugs installed but still no luck. Was told that cylinder deactivation may have caused lifter issues. Took it to my local dealer and thought the issue was obvious, they said they couldn’t find the issue. I was charged $300 for a non diagnosis or fix. The issue still persist

NHTSA #11652209

When I get up to a certain speed the car begins to shake. Tires were checked for balance. My public records show a recall # N192261050. I have the Product Safety Recall and it describes this issue in the recall. I bought the car in 2023 and just began experiencing this in June of 2025. It only happens while driving 60-70mph. Have not have this fixed thinking it was a road issue but have had several more incidents with this happening and now it's a safety concern.

The a/c compressor on my 2019 Tahoe with 60,000 miles no longer works. It will not blow cold air out and was not discovered until it was super hot outside. This should not be happening to a vehicle that I've had less than 5 years and with the average amount of miles on. Since Bumper to bumper warranty is now only 3years or 36,000 miles it is also out of warranty, leaving me to fix on my own dime. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. There were no warning lamps or messages or symptoms prior.

Transmission went out right at 70,000 miles!! I purchased my truck Jan 2021 certified from a chevy dealership. I have the app and everything connected to my phone. Not once did I ever get notified that anything was wrong. My truck has been broken down for a month now. I look up info to found out there's a whole lawsuit for our Transmissions!! How was this not a recall item?? The warranty won't cover it which is absolutely ridiculous. So now I'm out of a truck. With a huge bill to replace my Transmission. Literally I can send you a picture of my "chevy app" it says Transmission is 100% good to go. It's BROKEN DOWN. If maybe my app would of worked correctly I could of had my truck in the shop before the Transmission went down in the middle of me driving. There was absolutely no warning signs at all. I keep all the maintenance on my vehicle. Not one sign. I took it to a chevy dealership to get looked at. They just said it's the transmission.

This vehicle has 41000 miles on it and continues to do this. It is used for law enforcement agency. I am required to respond to calls and this hinders response times to calls as well as emergent responses. The dealership has looked at the issue and blamed it on fuel having water in the fuel. They have replaced several items involving the fuel system. This has not solved the problem. Bob Ruwarts has not given an answer.

Air Bags5 complaints

Hit a road sign at 45mph - airbags did not deploy.

NHTSA #11696288

The contact owned a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving on a winding road during a rainstorm at 15 MPH, she briefly lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, coming to a complete stop after colliding with a tree. The impact of the collision was severe that the front passenger side wheel became detached. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who had yet to determine why the air bags did not deploy, however, the contact was informed that the vehicle may be deemed a total loss by her insurance provider. A police report was not filed, but minor injuries were reported, which the contact attributed to the fact that the air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained a small bruise on her chin and a contusion across her chest, but did not seek medical treatment immediately following the accident. Surprisingly enough, the chest contusion had yet to heal 2 weeks after the injury was sustained. Alarmed, the contact consulted her primary care physician, who then scheduled an X-ray for a later date. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving, the engine started to shutter and run rough. Pulled over to check and see if everything was ok. When restarting engine it developed a ticking noise which got worse and worse. We then made an appointment at a transmission specialist to get it serviced. While driving there the engine started experiencing engine failure with loss of power and loud ticking noise. Diagnostic from trans shop showed issues with engine and cylinder 4 misfire detected. Yes, the vehicle can be inspected upon request. Safety was put at risk while driving when engine started to fail. Had to pull over and have towed. Independent service center has confirmed issues. Report in attachments. No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to failure issues. The issues first started on March 18th 2026. SUV has been un drivable since. We have been unable to find a repair shop who is willing to do the repairs needed. The vehicle really needs a whole new engine.

In March of 2023, my 2019 Chevy Tahoe began having episodes where while driving there would be no gas power. The needle on the speedometer would start dropping to zero and the truck would sound like it was in neutral without notice putting everyon in the vehicle and outside of the vehicle at risk. My kids travel long distance for their AAA sports. Then all of a sudden there would be a loud noise (sound like hitting a rock with a sledge hammer) and you would feel the jarring noise and it would engage again. It was taken into the dealer and they found nothing wrong with it, couldn't duplicate the problem. This was at approximately 128,000 miles. On and off it happened all from March through April 2023 without notice, on the expressway traveling at 70 mph and having no control over the speed of the vehicle. In April, it became more apparent that when you hit 50 mph and 70 mph it was happening on cue, at 130,000 miles. Took it to the dealer again in April 2023, gave them the information and all they told me was that it was the transmission, $12,000 and it would be $500 to just take it apart to confirm, no error code was scanning and if I wanted to trade it in they would get a sales person. I spoke with the sales person who couldn't help because the balance on the loan is $28,000. Went back to the sales to get the car and a different service person helped me and couldn't find the truck. The truck had never been entered into anything in the service department. I took the truck home and it has sat in my driveway. It is a shame that you purchase a $70,000 vehicle and cannot get quality service from the dealer and a vehicle that doesn't make it past 130,000 miles. We have a 2013 Ford Edge that has 358,000 miles on it. What does that say about Chevy currently? Currently I have been starting the vehicle and driving it down my block and back daily to keep it from deteriorating, it cannot go over 20 mph without the gas power failing. I am hoping someone can help.

While driving on the expressway I heard a rattling noise coming from my undercarriage, by the time I got off my exit the sound got louder, I attempted to make it home and when I pulled in my driveway, and popped the hood, fluid starting pouring out the bottom as well as splashed on other components. Upon further inspection it was determined that the fluid was coolant. There was no dashboards lights or warning signs indicating that something was wrong or that my car was at risk of overheating. I had the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop and the following was diagnosed and repaired: •Water pump •Cooling System •Engine Water pump •Engine Coolant thermostat housing assembly. •Serpentine Belt

the vehicles have a serious defect that causes the air conditioning systems to crack and leak refrigerant, lose pressure, and fail to function properly to provide cooled air into the vehicles. These failures lead owners and lessees to incur significant costs for repair, often successive repairs as the repaired parts prove defective as well. As summer temperatures in many regions soar into triple digits, this leaves Escalade, Sierra, Suburban, Tahoe, Silverado, Sierra and Yukon owners with vehicles they say are undriveable due to concerns about child, pet, and driver safety. I would hope GM will cover this AC problem since I am just outside of my certified warranty and have kept up with all maintenance requirements per manual. See link below that I have found to be a common problem with the condenser. I am not a happy customer here, definitely deters me from buying another Chevy/GMC if GM does not cover the cost under warranty. Per link below you have to constantly contact GM to argue this common problem to get them to agree to cover it. I had it diagnosed by Hoselton Fairport NY last Tuesday, they wanted $400 just to touch my AC to start the diagnosis and to put a $40 can of Freon in it. It didn’t hold after 3 days. I purchased my 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe in April of 2019 with 4 miles on the dashboard. My vehicle is Currently in the shop where I purchased the vehicle. It’s been there going on 3 weeks now. I was driving and my vehicle started losing power. I’m traveling on the highway at the time and my vehicle engine light came on as well and I couldn’t go over 30 without the vehicle losing power. I pulled over just in time before it shut down almost causing an accident .I have been servicing this vehicle 4 months after purchasing it. I’ve had better at a buy here pay here lot. And now I’m without a vehicle due to the Liner needs replacing. I was told they had to drop the entire motor to do so. My vehicle has 80,000 + now and I definitely shouldn’t be replacing this component. There are other things going on as well but I’m unaware of the name. Also I purchased Every warranty there was to buy when I purchased this vehicle and the dealership failed to acknowledge any one of them. So lucky I had another warranty company to bag me up and they are the ones paying this 4to 5,000 dollars repair. I’ve also had to service the Trailer brake system several times.. NEVER used it since I’ve had the vehicle.. until I asked them to just disconnect it because it wouldn’t stop. Also 4 months of having the very.. the custom rims ( back passenger side) broke from the inside almost causing me to go into ongoing traffic on the opposite side of the road.. and nearly flip. Meanwhile All this is coming out of my pocket to fix.. except for this engine repair.. but I do pay the deductible. Many is telling me to get an attorney. But I reached out 1st since I seen where there is a recall but it’s not saying my year of vehicle. Please help. Also. I’m still receiving my oil changes from the dealership. And I get them on a regular. NOTE: The shop that has my vehicle is Not the one listed on the document. But this is what the diagnostic read. And this is what’s being done to my vehicle.

Electrical System,Visibility/Wiper1 complaint

This is the date I first took the vehicle to a dealership. The Transmission has performed poorly and the wiper would not work at all and it was not a fuse problem. Transmission finally failed and had to be replaced (6/25) but car is in a dealership for the 3rd time for windshield wipers. They do not work so car is dangerous. You leave home with no rain and then there is rain and wipers sometimes worked, most of the times they did not. On 6/25 they would not address the issue as wipers worked in High speed (but only on high speed). 3 months later they did not work at all. It did not rain in LA so not concerned, but now it is. This is a serious system design flaw. The replaced complete wiper blade system, but The relays on the bottom of the fuse box control the wiper blades. I have the Z71 off-road package as I drive off-road and in snow conditions. This car was designed poorly as this is a 4x4 vehicle and moister should not effect the electrical system nor a safety device like the windshield wipers. This is a potential recall issue to properly fix the problem. Sadly the majority of vehicle owns just drive on the highway, but others have reported windshield wiper failures.

Sudden and unexpected loss of power steering several times. In all cases, the loss of power steering has happened when starting the car.
