Recalls Reported to NHTSA

The following recalls were reported to NHTSA. A recall does not by itself establish that any individual vehicle is defective.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE

NHTSA #22V903000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Reported consequence: DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N222386380. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-827.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL

NHTSA #25V274000

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Reported consequence: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

SUSPENSION:REAR

NHTSA #23V642000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The rear suspension outer control arm bolts may not have been properly heat-treated, which can cause the bolts to break.

Reported consequence: A broken suspension bolt can result in misalignment of the rear wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 14, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020; Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006; and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N232415910.

The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Reported consequence: Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447990.

After performing all preventative, regular, and even proactive maintenance, the vehicle started shaking and shutting down with 2 miles. We are now being told (by 3 separate mechanics) that it needs an entirely new engine.

NHTSA #11738667

The engine siezed up due to the issues that are related to the recall. Currently waiting for a new engine, it has been almost 5 weeks and no time frame on when it will be fixed.

NHTSA #11738983

While driving on interstate XXX on 4/17/2026 my vehicle lost power I had to pull over on the shoulder thankfully I was able to do so. Restarted the vehicle for just a short bit and it said loss of engine oil pressure and died. would not restart. Ultimately had to be towed to a GM dealership Lynch Chevrolet in [XXX] . Was told the engine was shot and was covered under the safety recall. There was a recall on the motor I had brought it in to get rectified sept 2025.a heavier weight oil was added and filler cap replaced with 40 weight oil identification. . I just had an oil change the day before the incident on 4/16. What is concerning I'm worried about the long wait plus plus online blogs that indicate the engine failed numerous times even after replacement. I was told from the dealership that the engine was on back order and they cannot give me a time on when it's going to be available. But again I'm worried about this vehicle in general in moving forward or trying to anyway. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchased a 2023 Suburban on March 6, 2026 with 52,980 miles. I drove it home to my house and parked it. On March 7, 2026 about 6pm, I started the vehicle and heard a loud engine noise. I called the dealership and let them know about the noise. On March 9, 2026 I towed it back to the dealership. The vehicle has been in service since then and was told it needs an engine. Metal spun threw the engine block and has to replaced. I just purchased this vehicle and drove it one day.

Regarding a catastrophic engine failure involving my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 6.2L L87 engine. There is an active GM service bulletin that we never received from either Crabtree or GM. Vehicle details: • Purchased in North Carolina in 2024 • Approximately 4,000 miles at purchase (used, still under factory warranty) • Currently at approximately 60,000 miles • Within the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty at the time of failure Incident details: On Friday 2/20, the engine experienced a confirmed catastrophic failure while my wife was driving on the interstate at highway speed. The vehicle abruptly lost power, creating a significant safety hazard. She was able to maneuver to safety, but the situation presented a serious risk of injury. GM has since towed the vehicle and confirmed catastrophic engine failure. We have been provided a rental vehicle - not a comparable one either (they refuse to address that also). Given the safety exposure and warranty status, I am evaluating potential potential claims including breach of warranty, implied warranty of merchantability, and any product liability considerations. I am also interested in understanding leverage for buyback, diminished value, risk of serious injury to my wife, or extended warranty resolution. I have preserved documentation, service records, and a written account of the incident.

NHTSA #11716816

The code that originally came up was P0300 a (Engine Misfire). I had this truck for one year and it says my fuel injector went bad so I’m getting the whole Tune Up done. I have the My Chevrolet app connected to my vehicle and it’s saying: the Engine/Transmission system needs service and the Emissions system! Mind you I e only had this vehicle for one year i bought it in February 2024 and it’s a 2023! I bought it from Lindsay Ford in Wheaton MD. I feel as though all this should not be happening in a matter of one year l believe I was sold a defective truck.

NHTSA #11714801

After just getting our vehicle back on 12/11/25 from our incident on 11/9/25 when my wife was driving at 70 MPH on the highway when the engine blew the first time. Approximately 1300 miles later and 15 days after we picked up the vehicle when I was merging onto the highway the vehicle had a sudden power loss and a smell that filled the cabin. We were able to drive to the next exit and while the vehicle was idling it sounded awful. The check engine light started to flash along with the TCS light and the collision warning lights. After getting to a parking lot when called OnStar to tow our vehicle to the closest dealer. I have not received any updates yet but it is very similar to what happened the first time when the engine needed replaced.

NHTSA #11707616

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban High Country (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered a sudden and dangerous engine failure while my wife was driving 70 mph on the interstate returning from our child’s sled hockey tournament in Ohio. The vehicle gave no warning lights, alerts, or diagnostic messages before the failure. While driving in the right lane, the vehicle began losing power and making a loud noise. My wife exited the highway and contacted OnStar, who told her the tow would take over an hour and only cover three miles to closest dealer, leaving her stranded in an unsafe area. She attempted to carefully reach a nearby dealership. During this attempt, the vehicle completely shut off and she lost all engine power. The vehicle lost all power making the final turn into the dealership coming to rest in the middle of oncoming traffic of a four lane road. The Suburban would not restart. A tow truck arrived and transported the vehicle to a dealership. When they arrived, the tow driver noticed smoke and a strong burning odor coming from the engine compartment and told her to move away from the vehicle because it could potentially catch fire. The vehicle was left in the lot with the hood open and positioned away from the building for safety. The dealership has determined the engine suffered a catastrophic failure and requires complete replacement. Multiple related components may also be affected. This occurred on a vehicle with only 54,000 miles that was purchased three months earlier. This incident created a serious safety risk for my wife, who was nearly stranded on an interstate and had to maneuver a powerless vehicle across several lanes of traffic. I am reporting this to NHTSA due to the sudden failure at highway speed, lack of warning, and potential fire hazard. NHTSA #11699730

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the engine, with the check engine and traction control warning lights illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact restarted the vehicle and drove to an independent mechanic. The mechanic performed a diagnostic test on the vehicle and discovered a misfire in cylinder #3. The mechanic replaced the cylinder #3 ignition coil; however, the failure persisted. The contact then had another independent mechanic at the same shop inspect the vehicle, and the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

NHTSA #11694924

I am driving a 2023 Suburban Z71, continually on and of of the engine light and "reduction in acceleration, drive with care" this truck has the same issue and same engine as the recall, but is not included. Yesterday i was almost t boned at an intersection because the vehicle would not develop enough power to get across a street at a stop sign. one of the scariest and near disastrous occurrences of my life. this truck is deadly

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Initially, the vehicle began making loud 'clanking' sounds from the engine, which immediately affected the ability to drive the vehicle. Upon further inspection by a third-party mechanic, it was determined that the Crank Shaft had malfunctioned. This is a known recall for our vehicle type (model, year, engine), however, no recall notice has been received at this time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The vehicle was slowing abruptly while in drive mode, potentially causing a vehicular accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Yes, we did not deliver the vehicle to a dealer, as no assistance was initially offered when we made an attempt to call and inquire. However, a third-party mechanic was able to determine the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? - Not at this time, as the dealer we initially inquired with did not seem inclined to assist. We consulted with a third party. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -No. Failure messages or icons came on after the engine failure began

NHTSA #11683929

Not sure the exact cause yet. But another big leak of coolant from the car. This is the 4th big problem with the same issue. I have been dealing with engine/radiator/coolant problems with this car since April 2024. It has been in the shop 2 separate times for 9 weeks total. With other visits in between. There is something wrong with this car.

NHTSA #11679640

Our Chevrolet suburban has 57,000 miles on it. We have started getting a check engine light and I’m getting code P1098 for the cooling control valve. This is a very common issue on these vehicles I’m noticing now. From what I’m reading in February of this year (2025) gm gave this issue an e code so these valves would no longer be covered pay the powertrain and they would now fall under emissions for a much shorter warranty coverage. This has been and ongoing issue since 2020. These valves are also commonly found to be on national back order causing long lead times and driving of the vehicles without properly functioning. GM knows these are and issue and shortening the warranty is not the fix. These vehicles weren’t bought with a short warranty and shouldn’t be able to be reduced to a short warranty.

NHTSA #11673122

Dealer attempting to sell 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with 6.2L engine and no corrective action under N252494000.

NHTSA #11670826

Its been over a month and the dealership is unable to remedy this defect. I also called GM and they said the recall in incomplete and its in the preliminary stage. We are concerned that this is a serious safety recall and GM will not offer alternative solutions in a reasonable time.

NHTSA #11675684

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cylinders and injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 33,190.

NHTSA #11666827

Coolant control valve failed. Reduced engine power, and engine fan on high.

NHTSA #11661582

Engine need replaced because the common lifters problem in 5.3L engine. It happens at 41k and now at 100,00k. Dealer don’t want to admit this safety issue and need to be investigated this is not acceptable.

NHTSA #11659195

Lifters failed again for the second time. First time was at 41k miles fixed by dealer under warranty, it happened again today 05/02/2025 with 100k miles on the engine with ticking and cranking noises and being told it need an new engine. 5.3L suvs need to be investigated and be recalled for engine failure it is a common issue please help.

NHTSA #11658613

Driving on the expressway my vehicle would not accelerate over 53mph. I then noticed the vehicle losing power where I then had to pull over onto the shoulder. The vehicle lost power and would not restart or go into neutral. Ultimately the vehicle had to be towed

NHTSA #11653909

Without warning my 2023 Chevy suburban started making a terrible noise, lost all power and died in the middle of the road. I was unable to restart the vehicle. It was towed to the nearest dealer 75 miles away and has been sitting there for 30 days with no idea when an engine will be available.

NHTSA #11657997

My 2023 High Country Chevrolet Suburban's V8 6.2L engine failed 6 hours from home while our family was en route to Colorado. It was towed to the closest city and the dealership informed me the engines are on a nationwide backorder and it could be months before one is made available. The dealership stated that GM will not release information as to where the customer is on "the list" of recipients. My car has 44,000 miles and is well maintained. It has been in the shop for other repairs - suspension issues, tech package problems (wifi, onstar, google and navigation not working properly). Spoke with GM representative and was told if the engine makes it onto the recall list the repair will be expedited. Not sure how that is possible with so many engines failing. Maybe GM/Chevrolet will be forced to increase production.

NHTSA #11652552

Middle of engine started making a tapping sound. Went to closest dealership service department. They said it was most likely an issue with the valve train but we should be able to get home. Within 10 miles, the engine completely seized up while on the highway loosing all power. Was able to get to the side of the highway. Towed the vehicle to the dealership that we bought from. They said it was going to need a new engine just as soon as they could find one.

NHTSA #11651133

Engine failed while driving on highway. Would not restart. Towed to Chevrolet dealer who determined engine full of metal debris requiring total engine replacement.

NHTSA #11648924

Without any warning driving 65 mph down a freeway the suburbans motor totally shut down. We had to cross over 2 lanes without getting hit by all the traffic. No dashboard lights ever came on until after we got onto the shoulder and sat there for an hour then the check engine light came on. We got stranded 2 hours from our vacation spot in AZ and now we’re stranded 1,600 miles from our home in MN. After 5 hours in the middle of the desert the tow truck finally showed up and towed the vehicle to Sands Dealership in Surprise AZ. We have never had any other problems before this happened. Never thought At 2023 vehicle with 30,000 miles would blow Motor. Waiting to hear from GM on what our options are to get it fixed and get us back home!

NHTSA #11645848

The engine seized while I was driving. The dealer discovered a crack in the engine block, which caused the oil to leak out. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired at 60,000 miles. The dealer replaced the engine with a brand-new one. So, I had to cover the full repair cost of approximately $6,830.29 out of pocket.

NHTSA #11655972

I was cruising at 45 - 50 mph and the vehicle went into NEUTRAL, shut off, would not restart, and would not shift into drive. I pulled into a Publix. I pressed the start /Stop button and the dash turned off. I turn pressed the brake and pressed the ignition button and the Suburban started up. Drove out of the parking lot and began accelerating when the vehicle shut off again. I could not restart the vehicle. I was able to coast into a gas station parking lot, but half of the vehicle was sticking out into the road. The vehicle would not go into neutral and would not start. The vehicle was towed to Palm Chevrolet in Ocala, Florida.

NHTSA #11644222

My 6.2L V8 engine blew up while I was driving across bridge and I barely had enough time to get it off the road out of traffic.

NHTSA #11655067

I was on [XXX] in Athens, Ga. Going about 65mph in the left lane, casually passing a slow truck. it was rainy, in a construction zone, heavy traffic. With no warning lights or indication there was a problem the engine suddenly died and shifted itself into neutral. I had just started going up hill, no left lane median but I managed to barely make the right shoulder, when the vehicle came to a stop it shifted into Park, from that point forward the vehicle was locked down. I was so close to the traffic I had to fold the drivers mirror. I literally sat on the passenger side of the truck with my seat belt fastened because I expected to be hit. Took about 1.5 hours for tow truck. The tow truck driver was nearly hit trying to load the truck, several accidents were narrowly avoided by people trying to move over. Truck taken to Auto Gallery Chevrolet in Commerce GA, after three weeks they confirmed the engine had to be replaced and it would be done under warranty. I have not been told the exact nature of the failure, but they did confirm the engine could not be rotated. They could not tell me how long it would take to find and engine but there was another vehicle with the same issue that was ahead of me. To the best of by knowledge Chevrolet has accepted the failure report completed by the technician but have not otherwise engaged. I have not been provided any documentation from the dealership. NHTSA #11646774

Traveling at high speed on major highway and engine stopped. Unable to get car restarted and in fact the instrument panel and information center blanked out. Was forced to have vehicle towed approximately 60 miles to purchasing dealership for diagnosis. Dealer indicates engine is seized and will require replacement. Vehicle has had excellent, verifiable, maintenance record. We have owned this vehicle for approximately 18 months and currently has approximately 62,000 miles. Upon research, I have learned that our vehicle is not the only GM product to have this premature failure.

NHTSA #11642138

Traveling [XXX] on [XXX] through Pascagoula, Ms at approximately 70mph. The engine revved high then put itself into Neutral and shutdown. I was able to coast safely to the shoulder of the road. There had been no prior warning of potential problems. The vehicle engine seized up and could not be placed into neutral for the tow service to safely load it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11644582

[XXX], driving on [XXX] at mile marker [XXX], 4 miles east of Moorcroft, Wyoming, the vehicle lost power and engine quit. We made it to the side of the road and vehicle would not start. The temperature was negative 5 degrees. With cell phone service, we were able to secure a ride and a towing company before we got extremely cold in the car. The vehicle was towed by Manning's Towing of Gillette, Wyoming to White's Frontier Motors, 444 Skyline Drive, Gillette, WY 82718. After 10 days in the shop, the service department diagnosed the engine was inoperable and the vehicle would need a new engine. There was no indication of the engine failure prior to its failure. To date I have had 15 communications with the service department at the dealership and GM Motors with no resolution or date of repair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA #11648111

In October 2024, the vehicle just shut off while we were driving down the road. Had to pull off to the side and got it going after about 5 minutes. Couldn't get the vehicle to replicate the problem so nothing chevy could do. No check engine light. No codes were given. On January 4th the vehicle started making a horrible noise. But then stopped making the noise on January 5th. Called Olympia, Washington Chevrolet to get it in to be looked at. Soonest appointment they had was February 5th. I made the appointment. February 11th, the engine seized and quick working completely. February 13th, had the vehicle towed to the nearest Chevrolet. Getting the vehicle into neutral and on the tow truck was terrifying. Makes me question the transmission. My vehicle has been at Chevrolet since January 13th. Today is March 11th. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle once it does get fixed. It has left me stranded twice. Once when it just shut off and another when it actually broke down for good.

NHTSA #11647749

I was driving my family to San Antonio for a vacation when the vehicle suddenly stopped working. The display read restart engine but the car just abruptly stopped and I was forced to pull to the side of the road. Once the car came to a complete stop the car shifted into park and could not shift out of park. The car would not start, display would read conditions not met? I had to have the car towed to the dealership. They are giving me a hard time.

NHTSA #11654901

I was driving on [XXX] in rural Montana (zero cell phone coverage) on [XXX] (freezing weather, snow packed roads). Without warning the suburban just shut down. It seemed to still have "power". interior lights worked ect. but the engine just died. I tried to pull mostly off of the road but I couldn't get it entirely off of the road because of the snow pushed off of the road by snow plows. I tried to restart the vehicle several times but it would not turn over. I assumed it was an electrical issue at the time. There was zero warning that there was any engine issue. When a mechanic finally had the opportunity to look into the issue he told me the engine has seized up. I had to walk several miles in the cold hoping to get cell phone service to get to a place to warm up. I also couldn't get the vehicle off of the road and I was sure the vehicle was going to be hit or cause an accident on the narrow highway. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the message to "Please Restart Engine" was displayed before the vehicle stalled. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The contact coasted the vehicle off to the shoulder before the vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

NHTSA #11637380

The engine stopped working. I was stranded on the highway and needed a tow. It was towed to a Chevrolet dealership in Alexandria MN, where it was diagnosed with a spun rear main bearing in the engine needed to be replaced. There were no warning lamps or anything prior to the engine completely shutting off and not being able to start again.

NHTSA #11664381

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle began to shake, fumes came out from the exhaust, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an engine lifter failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

NHTSA #11584536

Brand new 2023 suburban radiator ruptured at 14,000 miles. Radiator and hoses replaced April 2024 and the car has ongoing issues since then. Most recently the car has a strong coolant smell and the dealership states they cannot find a leak or source of the smell. I have worked with 2 different dealerships on this matter. I was told that the radiator was a “poorly manufactured part” when it originally ruptured. No safety warnings ever appeared even when the oil was dripping out of the bottom after the original rupture. Oil and coolant had mixed in the coolant reservoir and no warning light ever signaled. The most recent coolant smell poses a safety risk to my families respiratory system as the manufacturer states they cannot find the source of the smell and have tried to return to vehicle to me twice with the strong odor coming out of the vents. We have had the coolant reservoir flushed several times as oil remains in their, hoses replaced, and ongoing service visits for a year for the same thing since the original rupture in April 2024.

NHTSA #11657969

The car shifted into neutral while I was driving. I was slowing down to stop at a traffic light when it happened.

The sound in the vehicle goes silent and I'm not able to verify audibly that my turn signals are working or not. Which has led to a couple of near misses while in traffic. Power has been cycled and the call hang up botton has been depressed to soft reset the system and it still isn't working.

Transmission, got a message stating the service transmission or won’t be able to shift. Took it in to the dealership was advised that car can shut down at any moment. As that what they have been seeing.

NHTSA #11719940

When driving making a left or right hand turn my 2023 Suburban loose power and turns off and it is thrown in N and state to press start to restart my SUV. No codes are given to determine the issue. This has happen a handful of times. It has been taken into Chevy and they are unable to diagnose the problem. During the one visit they stated it was the battery and replace it and it has done it again. This is a very unsafe to drive the SUV as I'm afraid someone will rear end me and hurt me or someone else.

I pulled into a parking spot and the car died right before I shut it off. I came out and restarted it to leave and it backed up about 5 feet and died and would never start again. There was never any prior indication that it had any problems. I bought it new and always had a Chevy dealer do the required maintenance. I was told today that it would need a new engine because the engine has seized up; however, until they do a full tear down of the engine, they said they cannot tell me exactly what has cause the problem. I have heard of others having problems with the 6.2 engine so I thought I would report it. I don't have any paperwork yet from the dealer to upload.

I drove a 2019 Ford Explorer with Ford Sync, which integrated well with my Android phone to allow handsfree access to Google Maps or Waze for navigation, voice control of my phone for speech-to-text, simple Google queries, like "who wrote the song American Pie," etcetera. Steering wheel controls could also be used to make or disconnect phone calls. It was a very safe, efficient, satisfying, hands-free driving experience provided at no-cost. Unfortunately, I traded that vehicle in on a 2023 Chevy Suburban, which has an Android Auto based infotainment system. This system can be safe and efficient, but ONLY IF YOU PAY A SUBSCRIPTION. Otherwise, it is VERY UNSAFE. Things that won't work without a subscription include: "Hey Google" voice commands, steering wheel phone controls, instrument cluster road speed display. There are workarounds for some of these items, such as pressing the microphone icon in the infotainment center to initiate voice commands, but these workarounds require the driver to take their attention away from driving.

Following extensive research & uncovering the fact that there are several class action lawsuits underway calling out GM for not issuing a formal recall when they should have from the start, we've been forced to personally absorb significant costs tied to replacing our 2023 Suburban's Valve Body around the mid-December FY'25 timeframe. It's also been publicly stated that GM opted to "not release" an official recall for the 1500 series Suburban when they've already issued an official recall for the larger 2500 series equivalent, according to our local dealership. We've already filed an official "full credit request" with GM's complaints organization, but we're sensing our voice will likely remain unaddressed at this point unless proven otherwise. Additionally, this is the second purchased Suburban with a YukonXL, being our original purchase from many years back, but in short, we're going to transition away from GM vehicles long-term, assuming our "full credit request" remains ignored. In short & our local dealership totally agrees with our current stance, critical transmission components should not be failing at this point & especially with a newer Fy'23 Suburban, when behind the scenes GM opts to "not recall" saving the company north of 600M from many months back. Just terrible from so many perspectives, as disgruntled end-clients like myself suffer from forced irresponsible cost requirements.

Since purchasing the car in March 2023, the battery has died 5-7 times. We contacted our dealer and they claimed nothing wrong and the battery was fine. We have contacted them about this issue and there is no fix. They performed an update in June 2025 which was supposed to fix it but it didn’t. The latest it has died is November 25. There was nothing left on for the battery to die. I have 4 children and it’s starting to get very cold outside. I live in a rural area with poor cell reception. I am worried I’ll be stranded somewhere with a new baby and 3 younger children.

My vehicle suddenly stalled while driving. I later replaced the battery and discovered the telecom module was damaged, making the OnStar system inoperable. GM disagreed with my warranty claim and required me to replace the module at my own expense. I discovered the same issue is common in various GM models from 2023-2025. My Suburban and Yukon both have the same issue, making them defective. However, GM will not provide a free replacement under warranty.

Issue: The vehicle intermittently displays a “Key Not Found” or “No Key Detected” message on the dash and refuses to start, despite both original factory-issued key fobs being present and having fresh batteries. The issue began in summer 2023 and has progressively worsened. The vehicle has stranded our family multiple times, sometimes requiring a tow, family impact, missed obligations. Luckily for all urgent needs like trips to the ER or Urgent care, we were able to use our other vehicle, but we no longer have that vehicle and it is important that our sole vehicle be a reliable one. Impact: •Two emergency room visits and multiple urgent pediatric appointments affected •Forced to rely on one family vehicle for months •Paid for tow and fob batteries •Multiple instances of no rental coverage •GM and dealers often declined documentation or action due to the issue being “intermittent” ⸻ Request: We believe there is a systemic defect in the Suburban’s keyless entry/ignition system (likely receiver or antenna module). We request that NHTSA investigate and that GM be required to issue a recall or permanent repair for affected models. This issue poses a safety concern and has created financial and logistical hardship for our family.

My 2023 Chevy Suburban High Country had the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion (Related field action: See Special Coverage N252494003) recall performed on it and completed on August 15, 2025. Higher viscosity oil was put in. This was at approximately 55,000 miles. While driving on the highway at 60mph on December 29, 2025 the vehicle twice lost propulsion and indicated the vehicle needed to be restarted. I took it to a Chevy dealer to have looked at in early January 2026 and they could find no issues or codes. On January 31, 2026 while driving on the hwy at 75 miles per hour the vehicle started to rattle and it lost propulsion. The DIC indicatd "System Failure" and I had to pull off to the shoulder of the highway. The DIC repeated "System Failure" and that the vehicle needed to be restarted. The vehicle would not restart when attempting to press the brake and restart. This happened on a busy interstate and the safety and well being of my family inside was put at a risk that could have been avoided, likely if the engine would have been replaced in August of 2025. The temperature outside was in the single digits and there was no air pushing through the vehicle while we waited for a tow truck and another family member to pick us up off the highway. There was no warning lights or messages prior to this happening. The vehicle is currenlty undergoing diagnostic testing at a Chevy dealership. This happened at 69,000 miles. This is highly concerning that this could happen in a 95,000 dollar vehicle. This is absolutely a saftey risk. I'm lucky I was able to merge on the interstate in a vehicle that could not maintain the speed with traffic and pull off to the shoulder.

6.2L L87 Engine Failure with 36,000 miles on it. While driving on the highway and attempting to pass another vehicle that was traveling on a 2-lane highway the car suddenly died, and the transmission shifted into neutral. When I noticed the vehicle would not accelerate, I looked down and saw the push to start warning and tried to restart the vehicle with no response. I had to allow the vehicle I was passing to get ahead of me before I could swap back into that lane to get out of the way of oncoming traffic eventually coasting onto the side of the road to a complete stop. The vehicle I was passing slowed down after the engine died not knowing what I was doing and drove right beside me blocking the lane until I signaled for them to go ahead so I could get back into the lane. If the vehicle in the oncoming lane had not slowed down to allow me time to get back into the proper lane a head on collision would have occurred. This 2023 vehicle was purchased used 14days prior from a GM certified dealership and had no warning lamps on the dash and showed no indication a failure was about to occur. The vehicle was driving perfectly normal until the failure occurred. Once the vehicle was towed to the dealership it was determined the engine had failed due to crankshaft bearings. The dealership explained there were no available replacement GM engines and could possibly be a lead time of 6 months before a replacement engine could arrive. I purchased the vehicle for $60,000 and the engine fails 14 days later and now I could be without a vehicle for 6 months and the dealership did not have any loaner vehicles available.

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban Premier is covered under GM recall 25V-274 for the 6.2L L87 engine defect (loss of propulsion from connecting rod and crankshaft failure). In XXX, the dealer notified me my vehicle required a full engine replacement under this recall. Wareing Sheridan Chevrolet in [XXX] replaced the engine, and the vehicle was out of service approximately 12 to 14 days. Approximately 6,000 miles later, on XXX, the replacement engine failed while I was driving on the interstate highway near Billings, Montana. There were no warning indicators of any kind until I suddenly lost power. Only at the moment power was lost did the check engine light come on and a low oil pressure warning appear. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the interstate before it died. I had my family in the vehicle, and losing power on the interstate with no warning created a serious risk of a crash. The vehicle had to be towed to Denny Menholt Chevrolet in Billings, MT. On June 13, 2026, the dealer confirmed the vehicle needs a second complete engine replacement under the same recall. This is the second L87 engine failure and second full engine replacement on this vehicle under recall 25V-274. No crash or injuries occurred. I have an open case with GM (#XXX). My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5.3L V8 engine has experienced lifter failure twice within less than [20,000 miles]. Both times the vehicle developed a misfire, engine belt like noise and was diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealership as having collapsed AFM/DFM lifters. All oil changes have been done at the dealership using GM-approved oil. The issue appears to be a known problem on 2021–2023 GM vehicles with the 5.3L L84 engine. GM has a technical service bulletin (PIP5776H) regarding lifter collapse, but no permanent fix has been provided. I am concerned this could lead to engine failure or stalling while driving, creating a safety hazard.

The sunroof drains continue to fail. I’ve had multiple occasions where the car has had drains back up or be disconnected.. This is a safety issue because it creates mold as water falls in the headliner and then the cabin. It also creates rust, particularly behind the dashboard. That’s not rust proof. Despite being under warranty, the dealers are useless and helping address the issue because it’s la design flaw. The multiple water intrusions also affect the electronics in the vehicle., potentially disabling critical features like airbags and safety systems.

The drivers side, female end, of the seatbelt comes undone when cold. This is reproduced every single time it is cold for approximately 5 minutes of driving until the inside of the vehicle warms up. This happens with both primary divers of the vehicle. We took it to the dealership we bought it from but because there is not a current recall and they cannot reproduce the issue since our current temperature is in the 40s, they won’t replace it under warranty. No warning systems go on when this happens while driving.

While driving a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban (VIN: [XXX] ), my [XXX] son was seated in the second-row center seat and was properly buckled in with the factory shoulder/lap belt. He turned around briefly to grab something from the back of the vehicle, and during that movement the seatbelt fully extended and then locked in the automatic locking mode. The retractor would not release tension afterward. The belt continued tightening around his torso, and no amount of slack could be pulled back out. The belt became so tight that he was unable to breathe comfortably or free himself, and the locking mechanism would not disengage even after the vehicle was stopped and turned off. The seatbelt remained fully cinched and would not retract or loosen under any circumstances. Because the belt created a serious entrapment hazard and my child could not safely be removed, I was forced to cut the seatbelt to free him. This appears to be a dangerous malfunction of the seatbelt retractor/locking system and presents a significant safety risk, especially for children who may shift or turn in their seats during normal use. The vehicle was purchased brand new from the manufacturer. Because the third-row seating was rarely used, it was not immediately apparent that the car was delivered without one of the required seatbelts. Once the issue was discovered, it was promptly reported to the manufacturer. However, the customer service representative refused to address the problem, stating that the warranty period had expired. This is a serious safety hazard. A missing seatbelt poses a significant risk of severe injury or death in the event of an accident, and it requires immediate corrective action.

Electrical System,Engine2 complaints

The engine of this car has been under recall for multiple issues during the time we have owned it. The most recent issue that was experienced was total engine failure and electrical malfunction while driving on a busy street near train tracks. The vehicle was making a loud banging sound moments before this occurred. I wasn't even given time to get to a safe spot to investigate the issue. When it shut down, a quick message flashed across the dash board--stating ability to shift had been lost (or something to that effect)--the vehicle then flipped into neutral and immediately lost power. My safety was put at great risk due to the fact that the entire vehicle shut down moments after I crossed over a very busy railway track. The vehicle had to be towed to a nearby Chevrolet dealership where it has been confirmed there was total engine failure as well as blown main electrical fuse.

While driving the vehicle on an extended road trip trip on the interstate the vehicle randomly shut off while driving at highway speeds. When the vehicle turned off all interior and exterior lights did not work. The engine turned off. In order to begin driving again the vehicle needed to be restarted. This issue happened 3 separate times. In between, the vehicle has been turned off. It is a safety issue to have your vehicle turn off randomly while driving at any speed. The issue has not been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle has been seen by the dealer and stated "they are unable to find any issue" There was not indication before or after the 3 events that would indicate issue.

Service Brakes2 complaints

I was driving to work last Wednesday, and I live on a hill. As I was driving, a "Brake failure" alert came over my dash and I lost all control of my brakes!!! I live right off of Main Street, and my options were only to go straight and into a house, or to turn onto Main Street and hope no one hits me or that I don't hit another vehicle. I turned and thankfully no one was coming. At the end of that street I was able to coast into an closed down gas station and park the vehicle. I called the dealership I had purchased this vehicle from 10 months prior, and they told me I had to use OnStar to have it towed to them. I did that, and they towed it to the dealership. The next day the dealership told me the cause of losing my brakes was due to a SOFTWARE UPDATE that was needed!!!!! They charged me $800 for the update & a battery that they said was not holding the charge, which I've never had an issue with. I had purchased an extended warranty with this vehicle and I was told it would be a bumper to bumper warranty AS IF I had purchased it new (it was 2 years old). The dealership said this was not a critical software update and was not covered under any warranty. I could have been KILLED or seriously injured or killed or hurt someone else due to my brakes going out due to a SOFTWARE UPDATE that was needed!! This is insane!

Vehicle mileage is approximately 45,000 miles. While driving in the rain the front windshield wipers stopped moving and were stuck in the down position. They would not activated with auto, manual, or wash commands. Rear wiper still functioned. This happened while driving down the interstate which resulted in having to slow my speed in heavy traffic and go out of driver position to see through a clear spot in the windshield, took exit 1 mile later and tried to find gas station, approximately 1 mile after exiting the wipers started to work again. This also happened at approximately 35,000 miles on the vehicle and the wipers did not work for multiple days, even with vehicle turned off for 12 hr period. Took to dealership and by that time they were working again and the dealership could not find anything wrong. Both instances happened on weekends so could not take directly to dealership while issue was present.

Sun Roof has leaked. The Sun roof leaked a considerable amount of water and it came through the head liner around the ceiling mounted control panel as well as the back of the car. This is the second time it has happened and I have been told it is not covered under warranty. Through online blogs and forums I have found that this is a common issue with 2021 and newer tahoes and suburbans. And that is a reoccurring problem that is commonly not fixed properly by the dealers This causes a safety and health issue as well as an unacceptable vehicle defect. 1.) From a safety standpoint, if I am driving down the highway and a large amount of water starts pouring out of the headliner on the driver it causes a major distraction that could lead to high speed accident. 2.) From a health issue, regular water leaks could lead to vehicle mold and water damage. I have children, if they become susceptible to the mold it could cause health issues for me or my children. 3.) The water that pours out of the ceiling lands on the dash electronics which could lead to more vehicle issues by damaging electronic controls. It is my opinion that this is a major vehicle defect and something should be done by the manufacturer to correct it. I have made a complaint to the Chevy Customer service under reference #890 780 85

I was driving down the road at roughly 30 mph when my fuel tank dropped. The front fuel tank strap fell off and the bolt was gone. The fuel tank drug on the road, which prompted me to stop driving. There are scrapes on the front of the fuel tank and the strap was bent. This is a huge safety concern because had the fuel tank cracked or fell off completely this could have caused a fire. Had we been traveling at higher speeds, this could have been a very serious accident. The potential for gasoline or diesel to ignite was absolutely present. It could cause a fire or even an explosion, potentially injuring occupants and causing damage to the vehicle. I was travelling with my kids and mom, so the risk of injury to multiple people was present. The manufacturers only response so far is that it was not an open recall issue so it is not covered. Other1 complaint

I’m filing this complaint regarding a serious safety concern with my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle is affected by NHTSA Recall 25V274 related to a potential defect in the crankshaft or connecting rods. GM has confirmed the recall, but there is currently no fix available, and dealerships are not equipped to inspect the engine to determine if it’s defective. This leaves us driving a vehicle with a known risk of sudden engine failure, especially at highway speeds or while towing. In addition, my vehicle is also experiencing a transmission issues and is expected to be in the shop for up to three months for repairs. The combination of an unresolved engine recall and a failing transmission makes this vehicle unsafe and unreliable. We are a family of six with four small children (two in car seats, two in boosters). We purchased this Suburban specifically for safety, towing capacity, and long-distance driving. Right now, we are left without a safe or functional vehicle. GM refuses to provide a comparable rental and has offered only $44/day, which doesn’t cover anything close to what we need. We’ve attempted to work through GM and our local dealership to resolve the issue, but we’ve been passed back and forth with no solution. I’m concerned that GM is knowingly allowing vehicles with unresolved safety defects to remain on the road with families inside them. I’m asking NHTSA to investigate the handling of this recall and the delays in the transmission repair that are putting families like mine at risk.

While driving on the highway at night during rainy conditions the wipers stopped in the up position, and at the same time, the headlights turned off. After a few seconds they resumed normal operation. My headlights were in the auto position and my wipers were also in the automatic setting. Being as that I was on a highway at night, in the rain, and going approximately 65mph surrounded by traffic, this was an extremely dangerous situation to be in. Without headlights and windshield wipers, my windshield was immediately obstructed and I was unable to see the road without headlights. More so, other traffic might have had trouble seeing my vehicle. This problem has not been replicated by myself or a dealer. It has been random in nature. When the incident happened, there were no warning lights on the gauge cluster or anything else inside the vehicle that seemed to be affected.

The tire rotation was at Gerry Lane Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, LA. I took the tire in the same day to Gerry Lane Chevrolet service department and they were not helpful. They did not even look at the tire. I am having all 4 tires replaced tomorrow at Costco and will keep the damaged tire and 3 others for any forensic evaluation by your department or designate. I am concerned that this maybe the canary in the coal mine and if there is a manufacturing defect other lives may be at risk. Look forward to urgent follow up. Continental tire has had similar problems with sudden blowouts. 14000 miles properly maintained.

Forward Collision Avoidance1 complaint

Automatic Emergency Braking system activated at ~77mph. Essentially I had started braking appropriately and at about the same time the AEB system seemed to conclude more breaking was needed. This led to brief loss of vehicle control when brakes COMPLETELY LOCKED at high rate of speed ~77mph. According to vehicle manual this system should not activate at speed great than 50mph (photo attached). This is dangerous because i could have lost control and/or someone behind me could smash into me. My vehicle does not have adaptive cruise. Vehicle and other systems otherwise work perfectly. As a side note the extreme brake application at high speed caused cargo within the vehicle to slam forward and destroy the windshield, in addition to being a scary event.

Electrical System,Forward Collision Avoidance1 complaint

There were no accidents or near accidents but the computer system was spitting out different problems and telling me that different system were needing service such as the ESC system, the steering wheel column l, collision traction , etc plus the engine light came on. Thus occurred on the 20th of June. I took it in for service and they said they fixed the problem but then while coming home on the 22nd the system started acting up again. Took it back to the dealership and they said the computer lost communication. They had to keep my vehicle because they cannot figure out jow to adjust the computer harness and why I am continuing to get the error codes. This vehicle is only 4 months old (3/11/23). I am concerned that could be a major problem if it cannot be fixed.

Power Train,Unknown Or Other,Engine1 complaint

Driving the vehicle on an interstate highway with the flow of traffic at 70 mph, without warning the engine shut off. This caused loss of speed and loss of power steering, almost causing me to be hit in the rear end twice at highway speeds. There were no warning lights or any instrument indication prior to the failure. After barely being able to get the vehicle into the brakedown lane, the vehicle would not restart. The electronics all worked, there were no warnings or indicator lights but the engine would not start despite multiple attempts by myself and the tow truck driver. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being diagnosed.
